Speaker 1 (00:17):
And I'm your nurse practitioner integrative nurse
practitioner and here to discussliving in the gray area.
What does that mean?
Living in the gray area ofhealth or in life in general?
So, as a healthcare provider, Ireally am so about integrative.

(00:40):
So for me, integrative healthand a way of living is that
there's no right or wrong per se.
There is an area in the middleof health, meaning when you have
an acute stage of care andneeds, those are absolutely
necessary.

(01:00):
But then there is a point intime when there's an
interconnection between the mind, body and other modalities that
you still need additionalassistance and sometimes there
is not a answer for everyailment and everything that we

(01:24):
may have in our life.
So what does that mean?
What it really means is that wehave to go by guidelines per se
, but those guidelines don't gofor every person.

(01:45):
I may follow certain algorithmsfor a certain type of disease or
illness, but really, until I'mlooking at the whole
preventative perspective and aperson's past, present and
possible future, I really am notgiving them the full picture.

(02:06):
Everything is not black orwhite, and I think that I mean
maybe in this world, maybebecause I'm a multiracial woman
and black and Spanish, anditerranean, uh, from arab
nation.
And so I think that for me I amso multiracial that I think I

(02:31):
definitely have always lived inthe gray area of life,
figuratively and work-wise, andfor me it just comes down to
wanting to do the most for notjust patients, but for myself
and for others that there's noright or wrong answer to
everything.
I mean, granted, there are somethings that are neurological

(02:53):
and figuratively, but when youlook at a little bit more
in-depth conversation but thingsare a little bit more complex
in our healthcare field and whenwe just get a narrow-minded
point of view and just do aquick fix, we're not really
treating the whole picture.

(03:13):
Granted, yes, you may beputting a band-aid on or you may
be suturing up somethingliterally, or you may be giving
a medication that still may notbe looking at underlying causes.
And even if you do look at theunderlying causes, are we then
addressing the actionable stepsor our fundamental behaviors to

(03:37):
get ourselves to an optimalstate?
I mean, the person's state ofmind or their individual
situation may not be able to dothat.
So for me in a world of health, and even for myself, I've lived
in that middle area because Iknow that there is no one answer

(04:00):
and with my own injuries and myown health issues, I had to
find many ways to grow and bebetter, and it was a variety of
techniques.
It was anything from you know, learning that naproxen was going
to mess up my stomach becauseof pain and there was no pain
medicine that was helping.

(04:21):
And then to find out that, youknow, I had to use alternative
herbs and creams and movementmodalities even when I was in
pain, and that movement, even inthe most stressful times, still
actually was beneficial, andthat even that previous traumas

(04:42):
and pasts are part of theequation and connections.
And I can go on and on and on.
But the part in which can getcomplicated in the world of
health care is that there's allof these big companies and I

(05:03):
don't even want to get too muchinto it, but there's always of
these legalities or companiesand big this and big that that
will try to dictate what isbetter for individuals'
healthcare.
And as someone that tries tohelp as many people as possible
in her career and with educationtoo, I cannot fathom that

(05:26):
there's a one fix all.
But that's the society thatwe've been living in and I'm
hoping that with this podcastand with education that we can
kind of open up the eyes to moreindividuals that there is not a
it's not a broke fix, you knowit's.
Let's kind of fix it before andmaintain it before it gets worse
, and understand we can keep ourbeautiful machine bodies in the

(05:51):
most optimal health to live thelongest that it could ever live
, by building up andunderstanding our body's energy
and our bio engineering and themitochondria and her health
overall and getting a realunderstanding of that without
just trying to just notacknowledge those parts.

(06:13):
And for me I think it's acomplex conversation today.
But I really wanted to kind ofjust do a quick touch base of.
I don't live in the black andwhite and I'm mostly in
integrative, so for me the grayarea or that overlap is where

(06:34):
those intrinsical circles ofindividuals illness changing to
a wellness state of mind.
If you have questions or you'dlike to reach out more, please
touch base with me on email oron the website and I'd be glad
to talk with you guys soon.
Have a good rest of your dayand make sure you find a mindful

(06:56):
way each and every day.
