Every coach has faced that moment of hesitation before sharing a resource with clients. "If I recommend this podcast, will they think they don't need me anymore?" This fear keeps many coaches from sharing valuable resources that could accelerate client progress.

The truth? Recommending books, podcasts, or videos doesn't diminish your value as a coach—it enhances it when done correctly. This episode responds to Teacher Tina's question about recommending external resources while maintaining your position as the expert guide.

We reveal a powerful mindset shift: great coaches aren't just creators of content but curators of knowledge. Your clients don't pay simply for information (which is abundantly available) but for your unique insight, perspective, and ability to help them apply concepts to their specific situations. The distinction lies in how you frame recommendations—not as replacements for your coaching but as carefully selected tools that support the transformation journey you're guiding.

Learn practical phrasing techniques that position resources as extensions of your work together: "This book aligns with what we've been discussing. Read chapter three and we'll explore how it applies to your situation in our next session." This approach strengthens your role as the essential dot-connector who helps clients navigate information overload with discernment and personalized guidance. Ready to leverage resources confidently while reinforcing your coaching value? This episode shows you exactly how. Share your go-to coaching resource in the comments and book a free strategy call to enhance your leadership approach!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
So have you ever wanted to recommend a book or a
podcast to someone, but you're alittle nervous, thinking that
when you do, they're no longergoing to work with you anymore?
Let me tell you you're notalone.
A lot of coaches kind ofhesitate about doing this, or
they actually do it, but they doit in a way that actually pulls
away from what they do as acoach, and we want to make sure
that you don't make that mistake, because the truth is is when
done right, recommending theright resources actually

(00:26):
strengthens not only theconnection that you have, but
also helps your clients get evenmore results, while still
solidifying you as the go-toexpert.
So welcome back to ModernLeadership, where we answer
questions from our coachingcommunity to help you develop
the confidence and skills youneed to make the impact and
income you truly want.
Today's question is fromTeacher Tina, so let's dive
right into it now want.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Today's question is from Teacher Tina, so let's dive
right into it now.
Hey there, I'm Tina Delgado, or, as so many people know me,
Teacher Tina.
I'm a holistic success coachand I help women over 40 break
free from self-doubt, trustthemselves again and take
control of their future so theycan create success on their own
terms.
I'd love your insight onrecommending books or podcasts

(01:11):
or videos to clients.
I'm an avid reader, watcher, listener, and so a lot of times
I see or hear or read somethingthat I feel one of my clients
could really benefit from.
But I'd love your insight.
What would you suggest?

Speaker 3 (01:29):
I really love this question because I know that
this is something that leadersand coaches really struggle with
.
You want to give your client, like extra value right, but you
also don't want them to think,oh, I'll just listen to this
podcast and I don't have to workwith a coach.
The key isn't actually avoidingthe recommendations.
It's making sure they actuallyreinforce your value and not

(01:54):
replace it.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Yeah, this is really all about how you frame it.
Having this thought of, if Isend them elsewhere, they might
not see me as the go-to expertis actually false news, as long
as you frame it the way thatwe're going to talk about here
today.
You see, the best leaders andcoaches curate the information
that they share, not just createit for them.
Here's what I mean.
Clients don't just pay forinformation alone.

(02:16):
They pay for your insight, yourguidance and your perspectives,
as well as the application ofthe actual action they want to
take.
I want you to think of yourselflike a doctor.
Recommending a book is justlike prescribing physical
therapy it actually supports theprocess that you're working on.
It doesn't replace the expert.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
I really love that analogy.
You want to framerecommendations as tools that
support the work that you'realready doing together.
So instead of saying, just readthis book, you can say this
book aligns with the work thatwe're already doing together.
So instead of saying, just readthis book, you can say this
book aligns with the work thatwe're already doing.
Read chapter three and thenlet's discuss how it applies to
your situation in our nextsession.
Or you could say this podcasthas a great concept that builds

(03:00):
on what we talked about lasttime.
Listen to episode five andbring your takeaways.
You see how just a reframingcan make a huge difference.
This way, they see you as theexpert that actually connects
the dots, instead of justsomeone who is handing them some
type of content.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
If you're ready to step into your role as a true
leader, one who doesn't justgive people information but
helps clients transform.
Let's talk.
I'd love to hear below a bookor a podcast that is most
connected to you that maybe youcould recommend reading a part
of or listening to a part toyour clients.
