Speaker 1 (00:00):
So what are the best
ways to build confidence as a
new coach?
Now, I love this questionbecause it's actually why we put
together this new program thatwe're coming out with.
But a lot of people do want toknow that, like, hey, I'm just
getting started with coaching.
Some of them have acertification, some of them have
no certification and they justare the type of person that you
know.
People come to and ask goodquestions, but how do you start
to build that confidence whenyou first get started?
(00:22):
So, like we always do on thischannel, let's talk about those
three components right, themindset, how you think about it.
Second is the tactics what canyou actually do to develop
confidence?
And third, accountability howdo you get yourself to show up
and do it consistently, to keepgrowing?
So, when it comes to confidence, one of the things that I love
to teach my coaches is there's adifference in confidence and
self-confidence.
Right Now, confidence has to dowith things that you've done
(00:43):
before, like if you poured aglass of water a thousand times,
you're pretty confident thatyou're going to pour it and
you're not going to make a mess, unless you're our kids.
But when you think about that,it's like it has to be dependent
on whether or not you've doneit before.
If you're just stepping intocoaching, you're stepping into
something you've never donebefore.
So we don't want to rely onconfidence in the beginning.
We want to rely on what'scalled self-confidence.
Now, the way I was taught isself-confidence is having full
(01:06):
confidence in yourself, despiteany outside evidence.
That is possible for you, knowing there's only two
possible outcomes.
Either number one you succeedor number two you learn and you
grow, because a lot of peopleconsider it failures when you go
out there and you take action.
Right, if you were to see, likeour first YouTube videos,
they're way worse than they arenow, but we had to do that in
order to step into what can wedo differently, how can we grow
(01:28):
and what do we need to learn?
So it's an important part ofthe process.
So when you're coming intohaving a conversation with
somebody helping somebodyhelping coach them, we've got to
think about okay, there's anopportunity here.
I'm either going to do it rightor, most importantly, I'm going
quote unquote not do it right, but I'm going to learn and I'm
going to grow and remember thatso many times in life we
(01:49):
actually help people through thethings that we've been through,
because, like Ed Milet says, weare most qualified to help the
person that we used to be thethings that happened first time.
Usually we're not as qualifiedto actually help people because
we've never struggled through it, we've never been through it
right.
So when somebody comes to meand they ask me about how I lost
weight, I know what it feelslike to be 100 pounds heavier,
right, and, yes, I couldprobably still help them if I
(02:10):
didn't.
But being able to get throughthat myself, that actually
developed so muchself-confidence in me that I
actually now have been able todo that and I can help so many
other people do it too.
So really defining thedifference in confidence and
self-confidence is how wereframe the mindset of getting
you to take action.
Now the second thing has to dowith the tactics, like when it
comes to what can you do tobuild off of it so that you can
(02:33):
start to gain confidence?
So what comes up for you withthat?
Speaker 2 (02:35):
It's really about
practice, because many times and
this is from experience is Iwas really shying away from
basically showcasing what Icould do and how I can help
people because I didn't feelconfident.
So I thought, well, because Idon't feel confidence, I don't
really want to put myself outthere and make a mistake and,
(02:58):
you know, feel like a failure.
But that's actually theopposite.
That needs to be done, Like youneed to practice because you
need to find those failures andyou need to learn from them.
And that's actually theopposite that needs to be done,
like you need to practicebecause you need to find those
failures and you need to learnfrom them.
And that's how you get better.
So the more that you practice, the better you're gonna get and
the more confidence you're gonnahave.
And every single time you havea session, every single time you
(03:19):
come across some issue thatsomebody's going through and you
kind of help them through it,that means the next person is
going to benefit from that too, because if they bring you the
same thing or something similar, you'll say, well, I just helped
somebody else do this, or Ijust went through this, I'm
going to be able to help you, sothat confidence starts to build
up that way.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Yeah, I love it.
I love that perspective shift, the person that I'm in front of
right now.
I have more skills and more Iunderstand how coaching works.
I know this process more thanthey will, and I don't have to
help them get to anywhere thatI've never been.
I just have to help them get towhere I currently am, and being
able to work through that inyour brain can give you the
perspective to be able to stepin and to practice, right.
(03:59):
But I really love what you saidabout being able to help them.
Now, even if you struggle withsomething, it gives you some
more tools to be able to helpthe next person.
That's critical, I mean.
That's why we talk a lot aboutwhen you're first getting
started with coaching, evenhaving coaching clients who are
kind of doing it, you'recoaching them for free for maybe
(04:20):
six weeks, but you're gettingthem to share testimonials with
you.
In reality, what you're doingis you're building up that
self-confidence as you gobecause they're not paying, so
you're not really as fearful asif they had paid you thousands
of dollars, right?
But you learn through everysingle session and over six
weeks, if you do it weekly, that's six extra coaching
sessions that you're going to beable to develop that confidence
and be able to step into itright.
So being able to take that, take action, learn from it and
(04:42):
take it to your next.
As a coach, you're alreadymaking a difference in the world
, but what if you could takeyour confidence and the results
of your clients to a new height?

Thank you for being willing tolean in.
Let's get right back into theshow.
And the third piece is theaccountability is getting
yourself to show up, and I feellike it also bridges the gap
with that second one, which istactics.
Because here's the thing If youare in a group of other coaches
(05:27):
people who are going out there, who are getting uncomfortable,
who are coaching, who arebringing back those lessons to
you like getting to share someof their wins and some of their
losses with you so that you canexperience exponential growth it
really helps speed up thatprocess for you.
I realized that like early on,is I could go through it myself
and fail and try to figure itout on my own, or I can connect
with other people who are goingthrough it too and I can fail
(05:49):
much faster through them and Idon't have to experience the
pain, but I still get to learnthe lesson right.
So when you think about that, when you think about finding a
group, finding a team, finding amentor that's maybe a few steps
ahead of you, who's going to beable to take action and bring
those actions back to you, giveyou some feedback on yours, it's
going to help you buildconfidence faster.
I mean, that's why we puttogether our Coach Accelerator,
(06:10):
because we wanted to make surethat we can help coaches who
maybe don't have that confidence, who maybe don't have those
skills, to exponentially grownot only their impact, their
income over six months by beingin an environment like this
where they are growing, they arelearning, they're bringing
their coaching sessions andbecause we've had thousands and
tens of thousands of coachingsessions, we can share some
different philosophies and somethings that can actually help
(06:30):
them right.
So it's all about finding thatenvironment.
So if you are somebody who'slooking for environment,
definitely reach out.
We can share our environmentwith you.
But regardless, I want you guysto really think about this.
And that is like when you arelooking to grow.
Exponential growth is when youdo it with others.
Individual growth is much, muchslower and I know that you can
100% do that, but why would youdo that when you can grow 10,
(06:51):
100, 1,000 times faster?
You grow from everybody thatyou're around, so don't give up
that opportunity to grow.
Lean in getting uncomfortable, get yourself to find a group
that you have.
Accountability and focus onthese three things the mindset,
which is the difference betweenconfidence versus
self-confidence.
The tactics how can I putmyself out there and learn and
(07:12):
practice and take whatever it isI'm learning into my next
session, into my next client.
And number three is how can Iput myself in an environment to
learn that lesson much, muchfaster?
And I promise you you're goingto wake up six weeks, six months
, six years from now and go.
This is an entirely differentlife because I was able to speed
up that process exponentially.
