So how can I improve my publicspeaking skills for coaching
sessions?

I love that question.
I actually just helped a clientand our coach accelerator
through this process, becauseshe had been invited to speak in
front of a rather largeFacebook group and this was the
first time that she was evergiving a presentation, and so
what I told her, and what I liketo tell people here on YouTube,
is to not make it about you,but to make it about your
audience.

So whenever I'm speaking infront of a big stage or doing
something for the JusticeClearinghouse or any of the
other organizations, I alwaysremind myself that it's not
about me, it's not about mebeing nervous, it's not about
what do I have to offer.
It's always about them, whatthey're struggling with and how
I can best help and serve them.
Because when you make it aboutthe other person, it's not as

weird and awkward and you canactually make a bigger impact
because you're focused on themversus yourself.
Right Cause, very easy to getinto.
Who am I?
I'm not qualified and all thoseother things that our brain
tries to convince us to not stepinto it, but instead get
curious about the audience,right?
So for her, I'm like, hey, let'sset up a plan to ask them some

questions to see what you canactually help them with.
You would be amazed how manypeople get asked to speak and
then they just come up with itall on their own and you don't
even know your audience.
You don't know who they are,what they want, struggles
they're going through any ofthose problems, right?
You're not going to be able tohelp them much and you're really
not going to be able to connect.
And so for her, we compiled alist of questions and she went

and she asked them, and she wasso glad that she did, because
when she came back, she's likeMark, they're struggling with
this, this, this and this andthis.
And it was funny because in thebeginning she was a little like
it about them and you didn'tmake it about you.
So probably the biggest tipthat I would give is to make it
about your audience, not aboutyou.

Yeah, I also have one
thing to say, because this is
also something that comes upwhen you're talking about public
speaking, and that is thefeeling that people get and the
nervousness that comes alongwhen you're asked to talk in
front of a crowd of people,sometimes maybe even like a
small group in an office.
It doesn't matter what it is.
(03:44):
This feeling of anxiety thatpeople get is very, very common.
And, speaking of the clientthat we're talking about, there
was this other thing that shetalked about that I thought was
really, really incredible and Ithink I should share it.
So she was nervous to do thispresentation, she was putting
her presentation together, butshe had that like nervous energy
(04:06):
and what she did was, insteadof focusing on it being a bad
feeling, like I'm nervous, I'mscared, she flipped it to
another type of feeling and thatwas more excitement, because a
feeling is like a vibration inyour body right, it's just our
brain is what interpretswhatever that vibration is, and
(04:28):
for her it was nervousness, butthen she turned it into
excitement.
So it's along the same lines ofwhat Mark was saying, like she
made it more about the otherpeople to get the most out of
the presentation rather thanfocusing on herself and how she
was feeling.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
I love that, and I
think it's Mel Robbins who talks
about like a feeling ofexcitement and a feel of fear
feels the same way in your body.
You just get to decide whichone of those paths you want to
go down, and that's one of thethings that this client of ours
is really powerful with she'sable to coach herself through
that process, right.
That is what we focus on insideof the Coach Accelerator being
able to coach yourself so youcan rise up to that level.
Because when you're the personwho's asking others to do that

and you're doing it yourself, itreally does change the game
forever.
