Speaker 1 (00:00):
So what are the best
practices for maintaining
work-life balance as a coach?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
I'm surprised you're
asking me because you're the one
who masters this, so let's hitit from the idea of the mindset,
the tactics and theaccountability once again, right
?
So when it comes to the mindset, it is you can't do everything
that you want to the level thatyou want to do it, right.
This has a lot to do with, also, people in businesses, right,
where they think that they haveto take care of everything
because nothing's going to beable to get done to their
(00:25):
satisfaction if they don't do itall.
Right.
And this is the same thing withour personal life, right.
We try to take on so much thatwe actually overflow everything
and then we're really good atnothing.
Right?
As opposed to leaning in andasking ourselves, like how can
we do the things that not onlybring us to life, that we really
love, that are like in ourstrength zones, and find other
ways to delegate, outsource, chat, gpt, the rest of the stuff
(00:48):
, right?
And so when you think aboutthat whole idea of some things
matter more than others, youhave to ask yourself, like what
are the things that I love, thatI enjoy, what are the things
that bring me closer to myfamily, right, and how can I
find a way to stay within thatzone, because then I can do
those things exceptionally well.
So that's what I would saywould be the mindset.
How about for tactics?
(01:08):
What would you say?
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Yeah, I think it goes
along with the mindset piece
right Is really prioritizingwhat you need to do, and I think
that the trap we fall into isthinking that everything is
urgent and important and it'snot so.
We have to really look at whatit is that we're doing and
identify the things that matterthe most.
Also, if you're working on yourbusiness, you have to
(01:30):
understand that there are somethings that you do best.
That is your zone of genius, that is your expertise that you
need to dive into and reallyspend the most of the time and
energy in those things and thenreally let go of the rest or
delegate it, because that is howwe fall into this sense of
(01:52):
overwhelm.
So it's really identifying thekey things that you need to do
and that you're the one thatneeds to do them, and then the
rest just needs to be let go andyou really start to feel like
that empowerment and really it'sreally about leadership,
because you are taking on thethings that really matter the
most and giving other people thechance to be able to work on
(02:17):
their zone of genius.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Yeah, two things come
up as you were saying that.
Number one is is I want you totalk about universal primetime,
because when, when people thinkabout like getting more stuff
done in less time, that'ssomething that we help teach our
clients is is how to figure outtheir universal primetime.
But before we get into that, Ialso want to share, like, based
off what you were saying, right, there is like some things
matter more than others, andthen looking at what are those
things and how can I do more ofthose things?
(02:39):
Right, when it comes to, like, let's say, family time, right,
we, especially here on thischannel, like family is a really
big deal to us, right, we won'tput that on the back burner to
succeed in business and we'llnever ask our clients to do that
either.
Right, but when you lean intofamily, sometimes people think
that family is just aboutspending an absorbent amount of
time with your family, right, and what I found is that,
because of a lot of highperformers, people who want to
(03:05):
excel in multiple areas, thatyou have to really get laser
focused on the things, like yousaid, that move the needle
forward the most.
And sometimes it's not a quality, a quantity game.
Sometimes it's a quantity game.
Yes, that's what I meant, exactly what you just said.
Like, let me give you anexample.
So you can spend two hourswatching a TV show, right?
Not talking, not communicating, just watching the TV show, and
you're in the room with yourkids for two hours.
(03:25):
Or you can spend 30 minutesdoing what one of our clients
was doing on our call, which islike playing Barbies, right, and
the level of connection thatyou have when you're having
those conversations, you'regetting to like play with them
on their level.
30 minutes of playing with themwill make a bigger impact than
two hours of sitting down andwatching TV with them.
And so it's really justthinking about what moves the
needle the most and how can I dothat more often.
It's not just purely a quantitygame, it's a quality game, like
(03:49):
you said.
Right, I wanted to bring thatup but also want you to share,
like the universal prime time, because I see so many of our
clients when they lean into this.
It is a total game changer forthem, but they have to find
their way of doing it.
So can you explain that realquick?
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Yes, the universal
prime time is basically a time
frame in the day where you havethe most mental, physical and
sometimes even emotional energy, and these are the times where
you feel like during the dayyou're like, oh man, I'm, I'm
good to go, like I can be soproductive.
Sometimes it's about reallyanalyzing when that is for you,
because it's different foreverybody.
(04:20):
Some people are morning peopleand other people are not, and
they might be night owls, sothat could be their universal
prime time.
So it's just about finding thattimeframe for you, and it could
be an hour, it could be twohours, and it's just about
identifying that for yourself, because even with that short
period of time you can get moreof the most important things
(04:40):
done than if you would have, youknow, set on your schedule for
five hours to do some work.
You get laser focused becauseyour mind is, you know, primed
and you have the most physicalenergy as well.
So we try to work that in withour clients and just kind of
identifying that time period forthem and just kind of
identifying that time period forthem.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Yeah, yeah.
And when you think about thosetimes, you want to make sure
that you remove the things likedoing laundry, cleaning up
around the house, doing thingsthat like actually don't take a
lot of brain power, becauseyou're kind of giving those
things your extra energy andbrain power and your physical
and mental and emotional energyaway to something else.
Right, you're a coach with abig heart and a powerful desire

business with ease?

back into the show.
The last piece I want to talkabout is accountability.
Right, it's making sure thatyou're surrounding yourself with
other people who valuework-life balance as much as you
do.
No-transcript the team that I'ma part of, because you will
(06:10):
naturally take on the behaviors, the actions, the thoughts and
the beliefs of the people inthat environment, right?
And so, for example, like whenI was working full time at LAPD
and trying to become a coach andelevate what we're doing here
at home, right, I realized thatwhen I was spending more time
with people at LAPD, I wasn't inthe right environment to really
be able to find answers, notonly answers in terms of
entrepreneurship answers, butanswers around how to connect
(06:31):
better with family.
Because it was all about, like, the rat race of working,
helping people, doing this thingrinse and repeat, you know,
days off, getting changed, allthat kind of stuff.
And it was all for, like howcan we do this for the citizens?
Kind of thing.
Right, which is a great place tobe, you know, because you're
there to make an impact.
Right, but you have to be veryconscious of am I hanging out
with the people who share thevalues that I want to lean into?
(06:54):
Right, and when you do that, itwill get you to show up on a
different level.
It'll get you to start feelinglike it's contagious with
everybody else.
So, highly encourage thateverybody does a real quick
assessment, right, I think aboutlike am I making everything
matter, or can I focus on thethings that move the needle the
most?
Follow that up with what is myuniversal prime time so I can
get more done in less time.
(07:15):
You will get more done an houror an hour and a half of your
universal primetime than mostpeople get done in eight hours
of a workday.
All right, and number three ismaking sure that I'm in the
right environment, because ifI'm in the right environment,
I'm going to set myself up forsuccess and those actions and
activities are going to be somuch easier than if I were to do
them on my own.
