Quotes:
We need to talk about the elephant in the room better yet. The one that's not in the room, but outside of the room, I'm talking about that little hand that comes under the door. When you're in the restroom, it happens to every month. In my case, it's my son. And it usually also comes with banging on the door and I cry mama, mama, mama.
The moment I start to walk towards the restroom, my son drops, whatever he's doing now, mind you he's by himself playing and having fun. And he proceeds to chase me. And when I just want a moment of peace, he finds a way to interrupt it. Banging yelling. Mama M yes, the classic hand under the door. It seems like I don't get a moment of peace or privacy.
So hear me when I tell you the struggle is real and the peace is non-existent even in this household, I know this might be a common occurrence in your house as well. I know this because it seems to be a common theme shared among moms. There is no peace. There is no privacy, but. I'm also reminded of something else.
This is only a short time. And before long, my son will be out with his friends. He will be navigating the world on his own, and I will be left with all the peace and privacy. I thought I wanted only to realize I just want him back. So while it's exhausting, I need to lean into his need for me. I need to cultivate his love.
And I need to remember that soon I will long for the day when he needed it. And I suspect it's the same for you too. That little hand under the door, won't be there very long. So with all the exhaustion and tiredness that we face, we need to keep in mind that bigger picture, that little hand won't be little for long, and there will come a day when we just want to hear mama, mama, mama, and I will long for the day where me just leaving the room was a damper on his.
That my presence was all he requested and all he wanted. I know it's hard, but we need to remember to hold those little hands. You know, you have a friend that can't get a moment of peace or privacy. So share this podcast with her and you know what that moment was for you. So now it's time to go make someone else's day.
