Audio Only - All Participa (00:52):
Hey,
accelerators, we are officially
in what I call pressure season.
It's the time of year whereeveryone else's highlight reels,
starts setting the tone for yourhome.
You make too much to still feelthis stress.
You're smart, you're educated,you're intentional, and you're
still asking, why doesn't thisfeel better?
Something isn't adding up.
(01:13):
What are we missing?
Let's name it plainly.
Most people aren't overspendingbecause things are financially
tight.
They're overspending becausethey're emotionally stretched
and acting irresponsibly withtheir money under pressure.
Before behavior change canhappen, you have to understand
who you're acting like.
Are you operating as a consumerseeking relief or as a
(01:35):
caretaker, stewarding yourlegacy.
James Clear talks about it allthe time in his book, atomic
Habits.
You have to set your identityand be intentional, and then
after that, then you will startbehaving like that person.
So when you don't know whatenough is, you're going to
(01:58):
overspend to try to figure itout.
But let's expand this a littlebit.
Enough isn't a number.
It's about alignment.
Enough is being stable today.
Your home is secure, your billsare paid.
There's peace in the present.
You're prepared for tomorrow.
There's breathing room.
There's margin in your statedbudget, and you're building a
(02:21):
legacy or teaching kidslong-term security.
Generosity with a purpose.
Identity drives yourstewardship, so when I'm secure
in who I am, I don't need toprove anything with my money.
Last week I mentioned thatoverspending is irresponsible,
point, blank period.
You are responsible for how youspend your money.
(02:43):
But it's usually not financialirresponsibility that causes you
to be in a bad financial state.
It's emotional avoidance.
It's an identity drift.
You have forgotten who you areand what you stand for.
The world wants you to be aconsumer.
It wants you to consume it.
It wants you to consume more andmore and more.
(03:06):
Your legacy wants you to leadand move forward with intention.
Your leadership means facing thenumbers instead of the numbing
of the fear.
Leadership is deciding mybehavior aligns with my
identity, not my insecurity.
Let me go ahead and remind you,you can't grow from shame.
You can only grow from clarity.
(03:27):
Identity First coaching saysthat we establish who you are
before we build a system.
People that come to me and theythink that we're only gonna be
talking numbers and budgets.
Nope.
We talk so much about youridentity and what your values
are and how you want to alignyourself so that we can align
your budget to fit that, andyour system is going to come
(03:48):
before the discipline everstarts.
If you jump to disciplinewithout the identity and
structure, you're just gonnacrash into willpower fatigue,
you will fall to the level ofyour systems.
Discipline without identityleads to burnout and discipline
with alignment.
That leads to legacy.
So what is enough?
(04:08):
When you don't know what enoughis, you'll overspend trying to
find it.
So let's go deeper.
Enough isn't a dollar amount.
It's alignment with your threethings.
Pause with me.
Think back to your favoritechildhood holiday memories.
Was it the toy you unwrapped orwas it cookie dough with your
mom?
Was it driving around looking atChristmas lights, laughing so
(04:30):
hard.
You s spillt milk out of yournose.
I couldn't tell you one thing Igot for Christmas those years,
but I definitely remember themoments.
Your family isn't going toremember the more, but they will
remember the moments more.
Doesn't make memories, meaningdoes.
(04:51):
I know you don't need anotherworksheet, you don't need
another journal prompt.
You need action.
So while you're driving orfolding laundries, or putting
kids to bed, choose somethingfor yourself.
One spending limit maybe foryour gifts this Christmas one,
experience that's gonna matterthe most, or one boundary that
(05:13):
you are willing to enforce.
And then you ask yourself thisevery time you're tempted, would
I buy this in February?
If the answer's no, you don'tneed it in December either.
Also, go ahead and takesomething out of your online
shopping cart, just one thing, then redirect that money
somewhere else that's going tohelp future you not stressed out
(05:34):
you.
I know you're tired of having tobe strong.
I know you don't want someone tosay, look, you're doing better
than you think.
So let me tell you what I tellmy clients.
Strength isn't doing it alone.
Strength is naming the truth andstill choosing leadership.
You don't need to spend more toshow love.
You need to lead with clarity sothat your love can land.
(05:54):
Overspending is irresponsible.
Now that you see it, it'soptional.
This is exactly what we do incoaching.
We start with identity.
We build the system, and weapply the discipline.
Next week we're going deeper.
We're talking about legacy levelgiving.
Trust me, you don't wanna misswhy generosity grows when peace
is present and not when numbersare perfect.
(06:15):
Take a breath, define whatequals enough for you, and lead
with intention.
Accelerators go out and make adifference.
