Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello there, fellow Monster Madness Schools and Goblins. You're currently
hearing the voice of a girl with no name, and
it's here with very very clear intentions to sound the alarm.
Before you listen any further, beware that frightful spoilers and
deliciously explicit language. Liahead for Once you find yourself in
the midst of those telltale bumps in the night, in
the haunting hows of host laughter and cinematic judgment, there

(00:22):
is no turning back.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Joos Wisely, Bummask, great in darkness, fright, I summon for
though one of fright, my of shadow light return to
us this Halloween night.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Hi, Hello, Welcome to this featurette? Should I call it
future at Fridays? Is this going to come out on
a Friday?

Speaker 4 (01:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
It's a featurette episode of Monster Madness.

Speaker 5 (01:02):
But you're asking me, and I'm like, I don't fucking
know what your plans are with these things. You just
tell me where to be, when to be, and what
we're talking about.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
That's my platonic hetero life mate, Matt. I'm Erica. Welcome
to Monster Madness.

Speaker 5 (01:13):
Can we be hetero life mates? If you are, in
fact not hetero.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
Like it's a quote from a Kevin Smith movie, and
I recognize and appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
But we both like ladies, so that makes us the same.

Speaker 5 (01:30):
But does that not make us both lesbians? By definition?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
You're my platonic lesbian life mate. Matt, go get your
shirt that says it.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
Two please for sure? One that can be well, I
need one without sleeves. Yeah, I know, with sleeves. Yeah
you were get there, you go. That's how you know.
I like a shirt is if I get two, because
then one can be a sleepless.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
I know you.

Speaker 6 (01:49):
Oh, I know.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
I have like three of every fucking drowned lifeguard shirt.
And in the summer I was like, I need more,
like sleeveless shit, and I was.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
Just like, I can always get you. Not at this time.
In the future, I can always get you more. I
don't have anymore, but.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
There it is.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
I will always take free handouts before we get into
the episode. You know, the drill, the plugs you five
months a man, it's all your favorite podcasting platform sites,
things of that nature.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
Matt streams.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
I join him drums, games and things of that nature.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
I don't drum, he does.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
If you want to watch it live, join our social
so you could see when those streams are coming about.
If not, you can always catch them on our YouTube channel,
not the drum streams of those. Because some people don't.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Like copywritten music to be out in the world for free.

Speaker 5 (02:31):
I think I think we could get away with it
on YouTube as long as you don't monetize the video. Twitch,
on the other hand, mutes the shit out of everything.
I could just record it locally. Whether you leave the
sin or not is up to you, but I could
record it locally, we can always re upload it, and
if you just don't monetize the video, I think you
should be fine.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
I don't know. Think always yell at me even before
I upload the video.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
They're like, you realize there's copywritten shit in there?

Speaker 3 (02:54):
And I'm like, do you realize that the guy who's
playing the fucking song is right there? So I've won
a lot of battles at YouTube.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Oh yeah, I mean I've had copyright trecks against my
own songs before. But yeah, yeah, I even make I do,
Like when I do wrestling videos, I always make them unlisted,
and they'll still like copyright thing me even though it's
not a strike because I don't have ads because my
personal YouTube. But yeah, it's it's a whole fucking thing,
which maybe I should change that if I'm gonna keep
dumping out these play through videos.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Jumping out these playthrough videos.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
I mean, as of recording this, I have one coming
out tomorrow, and I have two more that are just
unlisted until I'm ready to release them. We'll see how
I feel about it. But I did the drums for
two more earlier today. It's so much easier when I
can just walk downstairs and play my drums. That'd be
like content.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
I mean, we're here.

Speaker 5 (03:45):
When it was this queer, I was gonna say Eric
is queer, I'm not.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
I'm just so smart, just vibeing. We're just vibe and bitch.
We've just been We've been doing this so much lately.
We're just on fire up but yet join our social
send us some emails, wreck things. Yes, it's hard.

Speaker 6 (04:01):
Just talk to us.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
We want to chat with you. We'll read it on
the show. All links will be posting in the show
notes today, tonight, tomorrow, whenever you decide to listen to this.
We're stepping into the eerie, creepy world of massacre at
the mirage, a survival hard game that turns an abandoned
movie theater into a death trap.

Speaker 7 (04:28):
If I were the devil, if I were the prince
of darkness, I want to engulf the whole world in darkness,
and I'd have a third of its real estate and
forthfits of its population. But I wouldn't be happy until
I see the ripeness happened on the tree. So I
said out about an hour a necessary to take over

(04:48):
in the United States, I'd the butt the churches. But
I'd begin with a campaign of whitmer with the wisdom
of a sup and I'd whit put to you. I'd
a whisper to eve you, you mean. To the young,
I would whether the Bible is a myth. I would
convince them that man created gods and the other way around.
I would confide, so what's bad is good and what's

(05:11):
good is square, and the old I would teach the
praise after me, all mother which aunt in Washington. And
then I'd get organized. I'd educate authors and how to
make lurid literature exciting, for anything else would hear dull
and interesting. I'd dread TV with dirty of movies and

(05:31):
vice bud, I'd tell them narcotics to whom I could.
I'd know alcohols to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. I'd
tranquilize the rest with pills. If I were the Devil.

Speaker 8 (05:42):
I'd soon have families that war with themselves, churches that
war with themselves, and nations that war with themselves until
each in its turn was consumed, and.

Speaker 7 (05:53):
With promises of higher ratings. I'd have mesmerizing media and
in the plays. If I was the Devil, I would
encourage schools to read the buying young intellects, the neglect,
the discipline, emotions, just let those run wild until before
you knew it. You'd have to have drugs, diven dogs
and metal jectors at every school outdoor. Within a decade,

(06:16):
i'd have prisons dobo flowing. I'd have judges from voting,
photogaph me and too. As I could have been God,
f in the courthouse and then from the schoolhouse, and
then from the house to Congress, and in his own charges,
I would such to that called you for religion and
pify science. I would rule a priest and paste it
in the midst of boys and girls who charged money.

(06:37):
And if I were the Devil. I'd make the symbols
from Easter an egg and the symbol of Christmas a bottle.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
So Masacre at the Mirage is an action adventure indie
hard game developed by Tainted Pact. It was released on
October twenty eighth, twenty twenty four, and you can play
it on your PC and as of right now, that's
all you can do with it. The game length is
one actually has a game length. It's not like Fasmophobia
like we covered in our last featurette episode, where you

(07:06):
could just play it and play it and play it.
To do the main story, it takes about an hour
and a half. If you do main story and some
side stuff, about two hours. But if you want to
complete the whole thing seven hours, which I don't believe.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
Matt, did you beat this game? I don't remember.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
I did. I know I got to the end where
you fight the guy, then you beat it. I did
the other one that was by the same developer. I
didn't finish it because it got really fucking stupid.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Oh the one with that fucking weird bunny that kept
coming at you.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
Yeah, I got to look what the name of this
one is.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
So while Matt's looking that up. I'm gonna steal a
quick summary from Steam because I didn't feel like doing
a lot of work for this game, because I was
supposed to rewatch the stream and I forgot to do
that because I got really busy. Blah blah blah, and
Massacre at the Mirage players are transported to the town
of Crimson Ridge, where the local cinema, The Mirage, becomes
the setting for a harrowing ordeal.

Speaker 6 (08:02):
The game unfolds.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Through the perspective of both the theater staff and its patrons,
each offering.

Speaker 5 (08:07):
The other game was called Suffer the Night. That was
when they didn't finish that.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Suffer the Night.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Yeah, yeah, you I think actually on our YouTube let
me look for the Night.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
Should be out there because it would have been a
Twitch stream.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
But uh no, it definitely is.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
Oh, it's just in a bundle, don't be afraid to
is it just it was just in a bundle with
uh Massacre at the Mirage. So it's not the same
developer or the same publisher.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Right right, right, Oh, we have eight subscribers on our
YouTube channel. Look at us, fucking gookook We are like
in the green for everything. People just fucking watch these videos.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
It's so funny. I love it.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Your most popular one is fall Guys with SPA, and
then Massacre at the Mirage is a second second place
with uh like ninety six. Oh no, you got off
Sam's Night that was way off. Know you got a
good bit and you get a lot of likes. I
love it, I love it. In Massacre at the Mirage,

(09:07):
players are transported to the town of Crimson Ridge, where
the local cinema, The Mirage, becomes the setting for a
harrowing ordeal. The game unfolds through the perspective of both
the theater's staff and its patrons, each suffering a unique
point of view on the unfolding terror. As the story begins,
the staff is engaged in their routine tasks preparing for
another night of screenings. Unbeknownst to them, a mass killer

(09:27):
disguised as a clown has infiltrated the theater. As the
night progresses, the killer begins his deadly rampage during the
once familiar environment into a labyrinth of fear. Players must
navigate the darkened corridors and hidden passe passageways of the Mirage,
balancing the demands of their roles, such as serving moviegoers
and managing theater operations while evading the relentless assailant. The

(09:50):
narrative delves into the personal stories of each character, revealing
their backgrounds, fears, and motivations as they confront the escalating
horror Throughout the game, The eerie ambiance of the dilapidated
theory enhances the sense of dread, with flickering lights and
the distant sounds of that create an atmosphere of constant tension.
The killer's unpredictable appearances keep players on edge, forcing them

(10:13):
to make quick decisions to survive. As the climax climax approaches,
the remaining character must confront the mass killer in a
final desperate bid for survival. The game culminates in a
tense showdown, where the choice is made by the players
determine the outcome for each character, leading to the multiple
possible endings based on their actions throughout the night. Badaboom. Now, Matt,

(10:39):
you played this, I did not What's on the Matt
Richter scale?

Speaker 5 (10:44):
What do we got in terms of what? Like? I
have feelings about the game, but like it doesn't it
didn't like stick with me?

Speaker 4 (10:51):
Well, give me your feelings.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
That's what this whole show is about brother.

Speaker 5 (10:54):
Well that's I was just trying to like be in
line with what you were asking. So I'm looking at
my my steam stack. He sticks. I played it for
roughly two and a half hours. I think we did
it in one shot. I one hundred percent was drinking
because I vaguely remember the time frame in which this happened.
I remember being very perturbed. I don't want to say

(11:20):
upset about the fact that, like the coolest parts of
every vignette of the game was just a cut scene
as opposed to something that you could play until you
get to the end where it's the final Like I'm seeing.
My latest accomplishment was complete story mode. So I did
finish it. So the fact that there was it missed

(11:44):
the mark on a lot of points, but like, ultimately
it was a fun play. I wasn't upset that I
played it. I clearly did it. I finished it, streamed it.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
So would you recommend this?

Speaker 5 (11:56):
This was four months ago at this point too, so
I didn't want to throw it one hundred especially, so
let me see what it's twelve fifty right now? Twelve
I mean, like we're splitting here, because I would say,
like ten bucks or less one hundred percent worth it,
especially if you're a completionist, Like there's six yeah, so
there's six achievements I didn't like. I was looking to

(12:17):
see what they all were, and most of them are
like complete shifts in simulation mode where I think you
just work at the concession stand, which is a part
of the game. So like that, shit, that doesn't really matter.
Purchase all items from Dead X Terminal that I don't remember,
cou collect all oh plushes and shifts. Yeah, so it's
like you could just make popcorn and sodas and shit.

(12:41):
And then there was the Acto Blaster game that I
got really close to finishing and then just tapped out
on to finish the game. That's the so all I
missed was simulation mode of serving popcorn and then finishing
an Acto Blackster, which was a mini game within the
game when you are at the radio station. I think
it was at night DJ at the radio station. But like,
it's fun. It's fun if you like playing horror games

(13:05):
but don't want the jump scares to really have to
be a factor.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Okay, fair, all the.

Speaker 5 (13:11):
Jump scares were taken out as as that I remember,
at least that they became cutscenes, like, it's very worth
a ten dollars playthrough, especially if you're only getting three
hours out of it. Two three hours. Yeah, I know that.
There's the There's the other one we had talked about,
Suffer the Night, which is from the same to publisher.

(13:32):
I think a game called Tara at Oakhurst, which I
barely got into, but it's all from the same company,
and it's like, I think I got them in a bundle. Yeah,
this game specifically, if it's on sale for less than
ten dollars, I would say, get it.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
After a lot of ranting.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Per research, Masco at the Mirage Mirage holds a very
positive rating on Steam, with eighty nine percent of users
you know, giving a positive feedback. Metacritic has an eighty
at one hundred. This is a higher Metacritic than Here's
the thing. I don't really fucking you know, hold much
water into these ratings, but higher than fasmo. I will

(14:09):
ask you, do you think you would survive a Night
at the Mirage?

Speaker 5 (14:15):
Oh see, that's a tough one. I have to like
dig deep through my Bosso drug hold brain to remember
a lot of the nuances. I mean he's a big clown, right,
And I remember a lot of the kills were pretty
unsuspecting and pretty out of the blue. So I'm gonna
go with a no, not because excuse me, not because

(14:38):
I don't think I could handle myself, but because I
think that there was a certain element of surprise that
you can't plan for.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Okay, okay, yeah, I mean I loved watching you play it.

Speaker 6 (14:46):
I know.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
I think I was pretty active on the stream in
the beginning, and then I switched to watching, and.

Speaker 5 (14:51):
I remember doing it was like in the middle of
the day on like a Saturday, So there's no reason
you shouldn't have been unless you were doing something which
you have no life, so you oh.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
Me, wow, shots, fires, just catching strays out in these streets.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
Yeah, yeah, no, I enjoyed it.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
I always enjoy when you stream, though, Like when I
saw clips of this game, people really hammed up the fear.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
I was like, this isn't really that scary.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
It's just, you know, it can have unsettling moments. But yeah,
I mean massacular at the mirage. It's such a short game,
there's really not much to talk about, and you it's
kind of like your actions create consequences, so you can't
really you can't really.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
Walk you through it.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
You gotta kind of figure it out for yourself, which
is games I'm super into right now, which brings me
to another question. What do you are you playing anything
right now that you want to highlight?

Speaker 5 (15:44):
If it's like nothing horror based, unfortunately, that's fine.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
It doesn't have to be. I'm not playing anything horror based.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
I am balls deep in Call of Duty Black Ops six.
I think I started Prestige eight earlier today and I
have five days and fifteen hours of playtime in since November. Nice,
but that's that's easy. Where it's like I can play
for twenty minutes and then put it down, or I
can play for fucking hours.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
What's that thing in Call of Duty right now where.

Speaker 5 (16:12):
You can like become a be Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
Or no, be a piece of furniture and like hide
oh prop Hunt?

Speaker 4 (16:18):
There it is?

Speaker 5 (16:19):
Have you paid? So I've played prop Hunt like once
or twice. It would be way better if you have friends. Well, yeah,
so like if you had a group of people that
you could fill up one side, it would be a
lot more fun than playing by yourself. Okay, so I
haven't really done it, Like I was playing a little
bit with Dylan before, just because it's a double XP
weekend and there's a Terminator event. So I spent way

(16:41):
more money than I should on a Call of Duty
game to be able to be a T eight hundred
with and without the Skinka. But also when you play
as a T eight hundred, when you kill someone or
just randomly just goes fuck you, asshole. Yes, but it is.
It happens so frequently that it gets to be a
little bit obnoxious. I'm not sick of it yet. Outside

(17:03):
of that, I did pick up Outbreak okay o utb
RK the Tornado chasing game, which has its moments. There's
a lot of like turn it on and then sit
and wait for a storm to pop up. But whatever.
Still Powerwash simulator when it has something. I got real
deep back into Suns of the Forest of Glitter for

(17:23):
a bit that's quelled, but I feel like that's something
that's going to come back. And then uh, yeah, I
don't know a lout random shit. But there's WW two
K twenty five comes out early March. I'm mildly excited
for that.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
So pretty solid choices.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
Yeahmy how about you.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
I I've been playing Life is Strange. I'm on the
last chapter of that, so i'll probably finish that up.
And I've enjoyed it for what it is. It's not
the remaster or anything like that. It's literally the Well, no,
I did have to buy it, so I might as
well have bought the remaster. But whatever, I'm enjoying that.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
I want to continue the story.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
I want to play all those games because I'm really
into these like your actions have consequences type games instead
of it just being like complete this mission, get to
this next phase. I'm really liking like if you do
this one thing, it changes the story.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
Apparently Road ninety six is really good, okay, and it's
like a choose your own adventure.

Speaker 6 (18:17):
Yeah, I didn't think that.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
I would like choose your own kind of like a
choose your own adventure game, choose your own path type games.
And then recently we'll do cover it. We'll do an
episode on it soon. I played until Dawn and I
beat it in a weekend, and I absolutely loved that.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
Game, the remaster or the original, the original. I heard
they're like making a fucking movie out of that game too.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
Yeah, but it's completely like i'mrelated.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
I already looked it up because like that was part
of the reason why I played it, because I was like, well,
number one, it's free on PlayStation plus. So I was like, okay,
I'll give that a go. And then I saw that,
you know, the movie was coming out. I was like, well,
I like watching or I like playing the game before
I watched the movie, and then I found out that
they're not.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
Even really related.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Just kind of like, I don't even know. How do
you make a game like that into a movie? I
don't really understand, but it is what it is.

Speaker 5 (19:05):
You could though, if you follow the story. You can't
really do the chooser and adventure style unless it becomes
a Netflix like they did with a was it band
Was it called Bander Snatch this Black Mirror? It was
a black Mirror thing where you could like choose.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
I didn't know that.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
So cool unless you do that, but still like the
basic premise of the correct me if I'm wrong until
Donald is the one it's one to goes. Yes, Okay,
I was like, I know, I knew it was that company,
but I couldn't remember exactly which game. So it's like,
so you can make like the kids go to the
woods when to go story. Sorry spoiler alert. Yeah yeah,
I mean games like ten years old.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
But you're fine.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
Yeah. So I'm like, there's there's ways to do it.
They're just they're not going to do it well because
fucking why would they same reason that they made that
border Lands game, and I believe everyone hated that.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
Yeah, I heard that movie did not too well. I
didn't see it.

Speaker 3 (19:57):
I know that the Fallout show did really well.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
I didn't.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
I only watched a couple of episodes of that.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
I like like Play and Fallout.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
I'm trying to think of there's any other video game
stuff coming out. I'm excited for the Minecraft movie because
Jack Black.

Speaker 5 (20:09):
But I recently there's a Your Mom's House clip where
Tom Segarrow was talking to I can't remember who was,
but about how he took his kid to the set
and his kid just sat and played with Jason Momoa's dog,
and that was the best thing that he remembered, was
playing with Jason Momo's dog and not being at the
scene of the movie for the video game that he loved. Like,

(20:30):
so we could have stayed home and you could have
played with the dog, but instead, I flew you to
New Zealand to play with the dog. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
I think I saw that clip.

Speaker 5 (20:37):
It was pretty recent, so I would imagine that it's
pretty well.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Yeah, I mean that's massacre at the mirage. There isn't
much to talk about, but it gets a thumbs up
a ya from us, So let us know what you
think and if you played it, and will you play it, hit.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
Us up, let us know. We'll catch you on the
next one.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
This is a weird random I don't know where this
is gonna where, this is gonna wind up our feed,
but we're recording it now and it'll get to you eventually.

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
