Genesis 4:16-17 tells us that Cain "went out from the presence of the Lord" - a powerful picture of those who walk away from faith. Whether it's young adults leaving their Christian upbringing or anyone turning their back on God, this passage reminds us there's always hope for return. For parents with wayward children, Dr. Jackson offers this powerful encouragement: "Your praying is stronger than their sinning." Never lose hope in the power of persistent, pure-hearted prayer.

The biblical timeline challenges evolutionary theories in fascinating ways. While secular anthropologists claim it took millions of years for humans to develop from cave-dwellers to city-builders, Scripture shows that within a single generation from Adam and Eve, their descendants were already building cities. By the seventh generation, we see the development of musical instruments, metallurgy, and animal domestication. This compressed timeline presents believers with a critical choice: Will we trust evolutionary theories or God's revealed Word?

This devotional tackles common questions like "Who was Cain's wife?" with straightforward biblical answers, explaining how early sibling marriages were genetically viable before mutations accumulated. Dr. Jackson also explores how God reveals His plans through prophets, comparing divine truth to "a fire burning in the bosom" that cannot be contained. If you're wrestling with questions about science and faith or praying for loved ones who've wandered from God, this episode offers both intellectual clarity and spiritual encouragement. Subscribe, share, and join us next week as we continue exploring how Jesus is more than enough for all that troubles our world.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to More Than Medicine, where Jesus is more
than enough for the ills thatplague our culture and our
country, hosted by author andphysician Dr Robert Jackson.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Papa, can you tell me a story?

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Do you really want me to tell you a story?
Well, you go, get your brotherand your sisters and I will tell
you a story.
Well, you go, get your brotherand your sisters and I will tell
you a story.
Welcome to Devotions with DrPapa.
Gather around and grab yourBibles and let us look into the
written Word, which reveals tous the living Word, who is our

(00:40):
Lord, jesus Christ.
Well, today in our Bibleteaching, we're at Genesis,
chapter 4, verses 16 and 17.
And let me read thosescriptures to you.
Then Cain went out from thepresence of the Lord and settled
in the land of Nod, east ofEden.
Cain had relations with hiswife and she conceived and gave

(01:02):
birth to Enoch, and he built acity and called the name of the
city Enoch after the name of hisson.
Let's look at that phrase.
Cain went out from the presenceof the Lord.
This is part of the curse onCain for killing his brother and
then defying and lying to God.
Defying and lying to God.

(01:23):
We all know people who havegraduated high school or college
left Christian families and, quote, gone out from the
presence of the Lord, leavingbehind their Christian
upbringing for years or even alifetime, despite the pleas of
family and Christian friends, they turned their backs on God

(01:47):
with a cold, calloused heart, determined to wander in the
wilderness as a spiritualvagrant, just as did Cain.
Is there hope for them?
Well, dear listener, of coursethere is for them.

(02:08):
Well, dear listener, of coursethere is.
As long as God is on his throneand as long as parents
persistently pray with purehearts, there is hope that hard
calloused hearts can be turnedback to Jesus.
I want you, mom and dads, toremember this your praying is
stronger than their sinning.
Let me say that again yourpraying is stronger than their

(02:31):
sinning and you have to cling tothat conviction, cling to that
belief, never lose hope in thepower of the persistent,

(02:51):
pure-hearted prayer.
Now that verse also tells usthat Cain and tell God you will
not let go until your childcomes home to Jesus.
Now that verse also tells usthat Cain came to the land of
Nod.
Nod means wandering, whichprobably means a figure of

(03:17):
speech for Cain's perpetualmanner of life, rather than an
actual physical place.
Now that brings us to one ofthose sticky questions who was
Cain's wife?
Obviously, it was one of hissisters, eww yuck.

(03:38):
In the first generation, all ofAdam's sons had to marry a
sister.
In that early stage, there wereno mutant genes.
There were no mutant teenageturtles either.
There were no mutant genes inthe genetic system, no mutant

(04:03):
genes in the gene pool.
Hence, there was no genetic, there's no.
There would be no genetic harmthat would result from these
close marriages.
It wasn't until the time ofMoses, when genetic mutations
had accumulated in the gene pool, that God proscribed incest in

(04:28):
the Mosaic Law.
Therefore, the ancient quibbleabout who was Cain's wife is
seen to be really quite trivial.
So Cain and his wife bore Enochabout whom we will discuss much
later, because the Bible tellsus that Enoch walked with God

(04:55):
and Enoch was not, for God tookhim, and we're going to examine
in depth what it means for youand me to walk with God in the
same way that Enoch walked withGod.
Then the Bible tells us thatCain built a city and named it

(05:15):
after his son the Hebrew term iswas building implying that he
started but didn't finish, probably because he had to
resume his wandering lifestyle, perhaps leaving the completion
of the city to his son, enoch.

(05:37):
It's interesting to note thatevolutionary anthropologists
tell us that it took millions ofyears for our cave-dwelling
ancestors to move from living incaves to the Stone Age, where
they developed urbanizationmeaning living in cities and

(06:00):
began to build cities.
And yet the Bible tells us thatwithin one generation from Adam
and Eve, their offspring werealready urbanized and building
cities and naming them aftertheir children.
Imagine that.
The rest of chapter 4 gives us alook at the antediluvian world.

(06:25):
In verse 19, we see the firstbigamous marriage.
This man named Lamech who, bythe way, was still present when
the flood came, because he livedwhoa like almost 900 years,

(06:47):
because he lived whoa likealmost 900 years, he breaks from
God's original design of oneman and one woman and he marries
two women, ada and Zillah.
Now, if you remember, all theway back in Genesis, chapter 2,
verse 23 and 24, let me readthat for you Genesis, chapter 2,
verse 23 and 24.
The man said this is now boneof my bones and flesh of my

(07:08):
flesh.
She shall be called womanbecause she was taken out of man
.
And verse 24, for this reason,a man shall leave his father and
his mother and be joined to hiswife and they shall become one
flesh.
And you see, that was God'sordained pattern for marriage

(07:28):
One man, one wife for life.
And yet here they are in thesixth generation away from Adam
and Eve, and Lamech has alreadybegun to rebel against God's
original plan.
And Lamech was the origin ofthe Canaanites and he originally

(07:49):
led the Canaanites into openrebellion against God.
And here he is, sevengenerations removed from Adam
and already rebelling againstGod in a bigamous marriage and
leading the Canaanites inrebellion against God.
Now Lamech had three sons, aswe see further in this chapter.

(08:14):
One was Jubal J-U-B-A-L, whodeveloped tents and he became
the father of the nomads and hedomesticated farm animals.
And then Jubal J-U-B-A-L, whodeveloped the lyre and the pipe
and he created music.

(08:35):
And then Tubalcain T-U-B-A-L.
Tubalcain, he was ahalf-brother and he was the
inventor of metallurgy, instruments of bronze and iron.
Incidentally, rather than takingmillions of years to develop
music, metallurgy, domesticationof animals and building cities,

(09:00):
as the evolutionists tell us,by the seventh to the eighth
generation from Adam and Eve,these indicators of developed
civilization are alreadyexisting, as described by the
biblical record, as described bythe revealed Word of God.

(09:22):
Now, this is a jumping offplace for your faith.
You're going to have to make adecision.
Are you going to believe theatheistic evolutionist who tell
us that it took millions ofyears for mankind to go from the
primordial slime to living incities?

(09:42):
Or are you going to believe therevealed Word of God, which
tells us that, in just a fewgenerations, from Adam and Eve,
who were created by God, by thespoken word of God, to being
able to build cities and developmusical instruments and
instruments of iron and bronze, who are you going to believe?

(10:04):
Well, I make my choice tobelieve the revealed word of God
.
Let me read you a verse from thebook of Amos.
Amos says Surely the Lord, god, does nothing unless he reveals
his secret counsel to hisservants, the prophets.
You understand that God has arevealed word, and you and I

(10:27):
know the past and we know thefuture, because God has revealed
the past and the future to youand me through his servants, the
prophets, he revealed to theJewish people that there would
one day be a Messiah.
Through his servants, theprophets, god has revealed his
nature, his loving kindness, histender mercy, his justice and

(10:52):
his righteousness, that thefoundation of his throne is
righteousness and justice.
He has revealed to you and methat his eyes are too pure to
look upon iniquity.
He has revealed to us hischaracter through his servants,
the prophets.
He has revealed to us his planof salvation through Jesus, our

(11:16):
Lord, through his servants, theprophets.
Everything that we know aboutJesus comes to us through the
apostles and their writings.
And you see that what Amos istelling us is surely the Lord
God does nothing unless hereveals his secret counsel to
his servants, the prophets.

(11:37):
And then Amos goes on to say alion has roared, who will not
fear?
The Lord God has spoken.
Who can but prophesy?
Listen?
This word of God burns like afire deep down in my belly and
it is like a burning fire thathas to come out of me.

(12:01):
And every week, when I sitbehind this little microphone
and I switch on this littlecomputer and I speak God's truth
out into the internet, it'slike a fire in my bosom and I
simply cannot withhold it.
And I understand what theprophets would say when they
talked about having the Word ofGod pent up within them like a

(12:26):
fire burning in their bosom, andhow Amos talks about a lion has
roared and who will not fear?
And the Lord God has spoken.
Who can but prophesy?
Amos could not keep it inside.
The other prophets could notkeep it inside.
The Lord God has revealed to youand me who he is and what his

(12:50):
will is for you and me and hisplan for your and my salvation
to rescue us from our sin.
Who are you going to believe?
Are you going to believe theatheistic evolutionist?
Are you going to believe thetrue and living God, who has
provided for us a way of escape,a way of rescue from our sin

(13:14):
through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to
purchase our redemption?
As for me and my house, we aregoing to choose to worship the
Lord.
We're going to choose tobelieve in the Lord Jesus Christ
.
How about you?
Well, brothers and sisters, Ithank you for your time.
