S1 (00:00):
You're listening to Moody Radio 89.3. This is mornings with
Eric and Bridget, and I can see the destination. Bridget. Where?
We're almost there.
S2 (00:10):
Yeah, there's nothing like when you're on a road trip,
finally seeing your destination. And that's interesting because we've been
going through Drive Thru the Bible with Colin Smith and
the last few chapters. Pastor Smith, you actually talk about
the last part of our journey as far as Christians
in our life, and that is in our death. And
when we resurrect or when we are, you know, welcomed
(00:32):
into heaven. And so, although that could be a valley,
when we think about death, the Bible really describes death
not as a sad thing for the believer.
S3 (00:41):
Yeah, that's right. It is the last enemy. But the
last enemy to is defeated because the Lord Jesus Christ
rose from the dead. Think about this. The Bible speaks
about a Christian believer as a person who has already died. Uh,
this is often said in the New Testament. Paul says
in Galatians, I have been crucified with Christ in Romans.
(01:04):
Our old self has been crucified with him. Colossians. You
died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
So a Christian is a person who has already died.
Now we will still go through physical death. But for
a Christian believer, what that means is an immediate, conscious
(01:25):
translation into the glorious, joyful presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.
So think about it this way. You know, the normal
experience of life is that death is in front of
us and life is increasingly behind us. But you see,
when you're a Christian, it's actually the other way around.
(01:46):
When you're a Christian, death is actually behind you. You've
already been crucified with Christ. What's ahead of you is
the most glorious new life. Just the way of entering
it is physical death. That's the way by which we
pass from one realm into another. And while the approach
to death may often be difficult and painful. It's nobody
(02:07):
wants to go there. The actual moment of death itself
is going to be the most glorious translation for every
Christian to believer. It's to be away from the body
and to be at home with the Lord. And when
that moment comes, for any Christian, it's going to be
the most glorious moment of life.
S1 (02:24):
So to use the the big terms, you got justification
when you accept Jesus as your Savior. Sanctification. That's the
process we're in right now. We're trying to be more
and more like Jesus through his help each and every day.
And then glorification is what we're talking about. Is that
the finish line or is that just kind of the
beginning for us?
S3 (02:44):
Well, there is more because to die is for your
soul or spirit to be present with Christ, consciously present,
joyfully present in the immediate presence of of Christ, that
will be, will be wonderful. But there's still more that
is still to come because the resurrection body is going
(03:05):
to be given to all believers. When the Lord Jesus
Christ returns in power and in glory, and all believers,
those who are with him already, and those who are
alive when he returns, will receive that marvelous gift of
the resurrection body at the same time. So, um, someone
a friend of mine once described it as being like
a stopover. Um, Nancy Guthrie gave me this illustration. She said,
(03:28):
you know, when my husband and I go to Paris,
we have a stopover in Atlanta. And she said, we
don't spend all our time talking about the stopover in Atlanta.
Our minds and our hearts are on what will happen
when we arrive in Paris. Well, when death comes, you
go to the stopover. You're joyfully, peacefully in the presence
of God. But there's an ultimate destination. Even beyond that,
(03:51):
the resurrection body, the new creation, the new heavens and
the new earth. And that, of course, is where the
Bible story ends with the glories of life in a
resurrection body, in a new creation. It's going to be
absolutely marvelous.
S2 (04:05):
This is good news. It's the news that we are
called to share with others. And you say that one
of the best ways to bring someone to faith is
actually to open the Bible with them.
S3 (04:16):
Yes, because the Bible is not simply a book of information.
It's not simply telling us about God and telling us
about ourselves. It's more than that. It is actually the
Word of God. And the Bible itself is described as
living seed, and living seed is what brings new life.
You put living seed in the ground. That's how new
life begins. If we can encourage people to open the Bible,
(04:38):
if we can get the living seed of the Word
of God into people's lives, we have every reason to
expect that new life will actually grow. And that's why
I'm absolutely committed to opening the Bible and convinced that
that's the very best way that we can help someone
who doesn't yet believe. Come and see. Come and have
a look. Come and see what's in this Bible and
(05:01):
see what work the Word of God might actually do
in you when you open it and see what God
has actually said.
S1 (05:08):
When you get to the end, we see an invitation, right?
There's a great invitation as we get to the end
of our Bible.
S3 (05:14):
Yes. That's right. Let everyone who is thirsty come and
receive without price. These are the two emphases. If you
see in this word something that you say, I would
like that to be mine, then that's that's a thirst.
And and you must come and you must receive, and
you receive by faith. You receive by believing, and particularly
(05:38):
by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ and all that
he has accomplished. That's how you receive what he offers
to you, and you receive freely. You see, everlasting life
is not something that anybody can buy or earn. It's
something that Christ gives. And that's the beauty and the
wonder of it. That's what makes it possible for any person.
(05:59):
Any person can receive what the Lord Jesus Christ offers
and what he holds in his hand.
S2 (06:06):
It's a free gift for all who will receive it.
We've given this before. Let me do that here again.
When you text the word Jesus to our contest line,
we'll send you a page that has a lot of
information on how you can take the steps to that. (561) 737-6035.
Pastor Colin Smith has been our guide as we have
driven through the entire Bible. It's been quite a journey
(06:28):
of the hills and the valleys. Pastor Smith, for those
who are at the end of this journey, what's your
recommendation here now that we've completed this resource?
S3 (06:38):
You've got the big picture of the Bible story. Now
you're in a great position to be able to go
on learning more. We talked a moment ago about the
Word of God being like living seed that brings new life.
It's also described as being bread that sustains the new
life that it brings. Jesus said, man shall not live
by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from
(07:01):
the mouth of God. So your spiritual life will be
sustained by the Word of God. And I would encourage
every believer to establish a habit of reading a few
verses of Scripture every day, and try and find one
thing that you'll just hold on to. Try and make
it your own. Hide it in your heart. Carry it
with you. Maybe share it with another person and you
(07:23):
will find that that nourishes your Christian life. What is
this telling me about God? What is it telling me
about myself? What is it telling me about the world
in which I live? Where is there a promise I
need to believe, where there's a warning I need to heed,
and so forth. This is very simple, but nourish yourself
in the Word of God spiritually, in the same way
(07:43):
as you nourish your body physically every day by eating
a meal, open the Bible and it will sustain and
nourish the faith that God is working within you, and
it will be a great blessing to you all your days.
S1 (07:56):
Well, this is an unfair question then, but do you
have a favourite place to go? Do you do you
personally run to a book or a chapter particularly?
S3 (08:03):
No, I it's a very difficult question to answer. I
think I'd honestly have to say my favourite place is wherever,
wherever I am at any given time. and I do
think it's a good thing to keep it fresh. I find,
you know, I spend some time in the Gospels and
then after perhaps a number of weeks there, I'll go
and spend some time in a book in the Old Testament. Um,
but it's all the word of God. It's all wonderfully rich,
(08:26):
and the best place to begin is to get the
big picture. And then from there to proceed. And, um,
to try and just take in a little part each
day and then to make it your own, to believe
it and to seek to live on the good of it.
S1 (08:40):
That is proof that the word is alive, right?
S3 (08:42):
It is. It really is. Yeah.
S2 (08:44):
Drive Through the Bible by Colin Smith has been our
resource the last 30 days. And if you weren't with us,
why don't you start your own journey today? Maybe invite
a friend as well. You can find out more about
this resource at our website. Colin, thank you so much
for joining us and for always encouraging us to get
into God's Word.
S3 (09:06):
Well, thank you for organizing this journey and for inviting
me to be part of it. It's an absolute joy.
S4 (09:11):
Thank you.
