S1 (00:01):
Open line chat is what we like to call this
segment with our good friend, Doctor Michael Ray. Michael, it
is great to have you back with us. We missed
you last week, as did our listeners. You give such
wonderful advice about Scripture to the people in Tennessee Valley
each and every Monday. It's always good to have you
with us.
S2 (00:18):
I'm glad to be here. It's good to be back.
S1 (00:21):
So if I could just share one thing with you, um, when, uh,
I'll just say, like, a week ago, you did an
open line, and it was the one that you recorded
at NRG, where you had lots of different guests. Michael
Fabares was with you as well. And so it was
like the two other Michaels, I don't know if you
guys call it that when it's you and Mike Fabares,
(00:42):
but somebody you had talked a little bit about Israel, right,
where everybody sees all these different signs about Israel. And
you were letting people know about imminence, right? And so
just being ready right now, and they're reading a lot
of things into it. And you had made a statement
about what's happening in Israel and what's not. And specifically
(01:03):
about end times. Here's what a friend is asking you, Michael. Uh,
regarding the conversation about end times. I respect doctor right now,
but I'm surprised that he says that they're not building
the temple in Israel right now. True, the actual construction
has not begun, but they're getting everything together and they're
getting ready, and they're looking for the red heifer. So
when it comes to end times, Michael, are there certain
(01:25):
signs we need to be looking for and some we
need to avoid?
S3 (01:28):
Wait, how do you know that?
S4 (01:32):
How do they know that they're building the temple?
S2 (01:34):
Yeah, I mean, he's making these statements.
S4 (01:37):
It says, look, look, Israel 365, it's a ministry of
messianic rabbis in Israel. And I guess their plan is
they're actively working on getting ready to build the temple.
S3 (01:48):
Yeah. Well.
S2 (01:51):
Uh. How do I say this nicely? Uh, Israel 365
is pretty Sensationalistic. Okay.
S3 (02:04):
Okay.
S2 (02:05):
There is a small group of people who are, uh, working.
They want to build the temple. They, for example, have
prepared the menorah, the the the lampstand, which is on
(02:26):
display when you go near the Western Wall. Uh, they
they are they're called the Temple Mount Faithful. And they
are driven more by politics than they are extreme right
wing politics than they are by any true desire to
(02:46):
build the temple. And, uh, uh, they make news occasionally
because of the things that they do, but they are
not the government. Let me just put it this way.
The government is not endorsing anything they do. The government
is not encouraging anything that they do. Uh, and, uh,
(03:10):
you can't take seriously these occasional things that the Temple
Mount Faithful do. They will show you a tour. They
they will do different things, but they're just a, uh, uh,
a group of people that are trying to drive the
politics of Israel in a particular way. That's it.
S1 (03:32):
Interesting. Okay. So if just news coming out of Israel
doesn't necessarily equate.
S3 (03:39):
That's not coming.
S2 (03:40):
From the times of Israel or the Jerusalem Post. That's
coming from a, uh, kind of sensationalistic, prophetic ministry.
S1 (03:49):
Okay. Well, then let's get back to it. What do
we need to be truly looking for? Because because I
know with, uh, being ready is is paramount. You talked
about it several times about the importance of just being ready,
because it could happen at any moment with Jesus return.
S3 (04:04):
Well, let me just.
S2 (04:05):
Say, first thing that we can do to be ready
is be a little bit more discerning about the online
sites that we site or think about. That's, you know, uh,
just because it's on the internet doesn't make it true.
It's like when my students want to cite a Wikipedia article. Nope,
that's not going to fly on research paper for me, man.
S3 (04:23):
So.
S2 (04:24):
Uh, just be more careful. Uh, secondly, uh, the Bible
teaches that we need to be ready every day because
I believe that the rapture could happen today. The Lord
Jesus said that no man knows the day or hour. Uh,
and we just need to be ready. Uh, and the
way we're ready, I think, is I think it's interesting
(04:46):
that there are two parables after the Olivet Discourse. Uh,
Matthew 24 one is the ten virgins. Uh, the parable
of the Ten virgins. Five were ready, five were not.
That deals with imminency. Just always be ready because you
don't know when when the Lord will return. Uh, the
(05:08):
rapture can happen suddenly. Uh, so if you look at
Matthew 25, um, you've got the parable of the ten virgins,
which says, be alert, be ready. Um, and uh, it says, uh,
therefore be alert because you don't know the day or
(05:30):
the hour. That's, I think, related to the rapture. It
could happen any moment. Uh, now people think the rapture
can't happen at any moment because everything isn't set for
the tribulation. Well, that's not exactly true. Uh, because the
rapture doesn't start the tribulation. What starts the tribulation period
(05:53):
is the covenant between the future false Messiah, the Antichrist,
and the nation of Israel. That's what begins the seven
year period. So the rapture could happen and then there
might be a gap before the tribulation begins. So be alert,
be ready any moment. But then secondly, what follows is
the parable of the talents, which is saying that what
(06:15):
we need to do is be serving until he comes.
And so just let's go on every day serving as
if he's not coming. Uh, we have to do everything
we can to keep on working. Uh, I think I
call this the, uh, Mr. Rogers parable because. Because he
used to sing to my kids, I'd listen, uh, well,
(06:35):
think of something to do while you're waiting. While we're
waiting for the return. And so what do we have
to do? Uh, we have to be faithful servants. Uh,
he he gives them, uh, each of the people in
the parable, different number of talents, which is a monetary amount,
and each according to their ability. And he goes on
a journey, and then he goes and and he is
(06:56):
waiting to see what they will accomplish. So what we
have to do. What are we going to do with
these talents? We have to keep on serving. So one
says be alert. The other says keep working. Uh, because
he said, well done, good and faithful servant. You were
faithful over a few things. Now I'll put you in
charge of many things. So what we have to do
(07:16):
is keep serving, keep working while we are staying alert
at any moment for his return. I think those two
parables in Matthew 25 guide us in what we should do.
S4 (07:26):
Doctor, you have, uh, some cruises that you are open
and inviting people to join in on. Can you tell
us about them?
S3 (07:36):
Sure.
S2 (07:37):
It's just one cruise. It's in December, uh, that we're
going to do. It's it's it's a different thing. It's
not going to the Bible lands, but we're going to
study the Bible. We're going to have a time of
worship and Bible study morning and evening, uh, after breakfast,
before dinner. And then the day is free. It's going
to be on a tall ship, uh, like the old
(07:57):
classic tall ships in the Caribbean. And it's just going
to be a great second week of December winter vacation
for people. Uh, and we're going to have a great
time studying the book of Daniel. And if a person
wants to do a winter vacation, that's a great one
to do. And we have five cabins left.
S4 (08:14):
Five.
S1 (08:15):
Wow. Just five. Now, is this like the tall ship
you did a journeys of Paul in a similar ship.
Is it a similar ship?
S2 (08:23):
Yeah.
S3 (08:23):
Okay. Yeah.
S2 (08:24):
That was the Star Clipper, but it's Star Clipper line. And, uh,
they bring the tall ships over to this hemisphere during
the winter. Uh, and, uh, we'll be doing one of
their ships. We have our own room where we're going
to meet. We'll have our own, uh, and, uh, it's
going to be great fun of worship and instruction and
(08:46):
and beautiful weather at a great time. Uh.
S3 (08:49):
So beautiful.
S1 (08:51):
So where would they go to get some information on this, Michael?
S2 (08:55):
Org. That's the best place. Click, click on the picture
of of, uh, me and the tall ship. There we go.
S4 (09:01):
Makes it.
S3 (09:01):
Easy. Yeah. That's awesome.
S2 (09:03):
Listen, there are people who have been clamoring to go
to Israel and they say, how are we going to
go to Israel? How are we going to where are
we going to go? Well, I believe despite the most
recent news, everything is safe in Israel. We're not going
to go where there's war in Gaza, and we're going
in September, and we we have a few spaces left
for that. Again, go to microwave.org and look up my
(09:26):
trips and you can see things. If you're interested in
going to Israel, now's the time to go. No lines.
S4 (09:32):
No lines. You can get in at every stop okay.
That's going to be awesome. So again Michael because yeah.
S1 (09:41):
Michael. Michael, thank you so much for being here.
S3 (09:43):
You can smell it. You can find it.
S1 (09:45):
Yeah.
S4 (09:45):
That's that's the trick though. Yeah.
S1 (09:49):
Yeah absolutely. That's why I don't have my name in
any kind of a website ever. All right, Michael, we
have a question that that has to do kind of
with giving and stewardship a little bit. But let me
just see if I can share this with you. Um,
it's a question about misappropriation of funds that people faithfully
give to the church yet are turned over, maybe by administration. Um,
(10:10):
they see is it something like Ananias and Sapphira or
another scripture? I think, that they were giving to a
church or a chapel, but they're not getting any, um,
receipts about it or.
S4 (10:22):
Well, they felt that some of the choices that they
made with the funds, there's a lot more to the
back story. So I'll just summarize. They're at a retirement home.
They have a chapel. They want to tithe to that
chapel because that is fundamentally their church. But yet that chapel,
the funds are not always used for the chapel could
be used for anything in that organization. Is that really
(10:44):
like misappropriation in the same vein as Ananias and Sapphira?
S2 (10:49):
No it's not. Uh, I don't think that's the case.
I think that, uh, if it is a 500 1C3,
they can designate only for the chapel and then according
to law, the the the nonprofit would have to use
it only for that purpose. Uh, if the nonprofit is
(11:11):
not doing so, you can ask for your funds to
be returned. Uh, and they should do it. Uh, also,
I would just encourage you as much as you would
like to give, if you don't feel they're giving to
the right designated area, just don't give to that ministry.
S4 (11:26):
Just give to another ministry.
S3 (11:28):
Mhm.
S4 (11:28):
Yeah okay.
S1 (11:29):
Well that that that makes sense. Thank you so much
for that. Michael we had another question that just kind
of came in really quickly Michael. And you know I
started us off talking about end times. And I knew
it was only a matter of time. And that time
has arrived. Michael, would you please explain the significance of
red heifers?
S3 (11:47):
Okay.
S2 (11:47):
There's a sacrifice in the temple that was to be
a red heifer. Uh, according to Orthodox Jewish law, not
according to the Bible, but according to the Orthodox Jewish law. Today,
that must be a heifer Without even one hair on it.
That's that's white or any other color. It's sort of
(12:10):
like I used to have a border collie that was
almost entirely black. Uh, but on her back, she she
had one white hair, just one white hair on her fur. Uh, and, uh,
according to the law, if a if a heifer has
one white hair as opposed to, uh, everything else being red,
(12:33):
then she. That heifer would be disqualified as a sacrifice. However,
that's not what the Bible requires, and I. I believe
that the Bible, when it says a red heifer, it
just means a red heifer. It doesn't mean you can't
have one, one white hair or something like that. So
all this looking for the red heifer? I just don't
(12:55):
find much significance to it.
S4 (12:58):
Okay, so you're saying the Bible and Orthodox Jewish. um
writings or laws are two different things.
S2 (13:05):
Requires it to be a red heifer.
S4 (13:06):
But but they are. But they are requiring what? I
guess the significance question that she's asking.
S2 (13:11):
They're requiring a heifer that doesn't even have one white
hair on. Its on. Its in its fur.
S4 (13:17):
Okay, let me just back up for a second. So.
So the red heifer. Significance. According to the Bible verses
according to the Orthodox Jewish.
S3 (13:27):
Significance, is.
S2 (13:27):
You need a red heifer for sacrifices in the temple.
S4 (13:30):
Okay.
S2 (13:32):
Yeah. When they when they restore sacrifice.
S4 (13:34):
When they restore sacrifice after the temple, the last temple
is rebuilt.
S3 (13:38):
Yeah.
S2 (13:39):
And it's what? How do you define a red heifer?
The Bible doesn't make such strict. It just says a
red heifer.
S4 (13:45):
Um.
S2 (13:46):
But Orthodox law says that it must be a completely
red fir without. Without even one white hair in it.
So very specific. Much more than the Bible requires.
S1 (14:03):
And isn't that normal for us to add a little
bit more to what Scripture says that we need? I mean,
they usually gets us into trouble when we start really
trying to micro define what God wants.
S2 (14:15):
But especially in Judaism, what we have is what we
have been doing is building fences around the law, uh,
meaning making. Making it more stringent, more stringent, more stringent.
So you don't break the actual law. So you build
more and more fences. Uh, and so this is just
a fence around the law. It says red heifer. Make
(14:37):
it even more stringent, and then you're sure to obey
the law.
S1 (14:43):
Okay. Michael, let me ask you another question, because we're
talking about this red heifer. We're talking about sacrifice. And
when the temple is restored, and it seems like when
Jesus returns, the sacrificial system kind of comes back. Um,
and then. But but it's different this time. It's not
to appease sin at all. It's more of a remembrance, right?
S2 (15:04):
Yeah, it's a memorial. Uh, but, you know, in in
the book of Hebrews, you may have read this once.
I know I read it once that the the the, uh,
the the blood of bulls and goats never took away sin. Right.
S3 (15:20):
Correct. So what were.
S2 (15:21):
The purpose of the Old Testament sacrifices? They were to
establish a principle of substitutionary atonement, to point forward to
the day when the Messiah came and established the one
true sacrifice that would take away sin. Okay. But those
sacrifices they were covering, they were, uh. I like to
(15:42):
compare it to using your credit card over using your
credit card. And then, uh, after you overuse your credit
card and you have to pay the bill, what do
you do when you get that bill?
S1 (15:55):
I give it to Toby, but, you know.
S3 (15:57):
You pay.
S2 (15:58):
The minimum.
S3 (15:58):
Right?
S1 (15:59):
Right. Yeah, just a little bit.
S3 (16:01):
Yeah.
S2 (16:01):
It doesn't cover the interest and it doesn't even cover
the doesn't cover the principle for sure. Doesn't even cover
the interest. Uh, but it keeps the bill collector away
for another month. Well, the Yom Kippur sacrifice, it didn't
cover the principal. It didn't even cover the interest. It
just kept, uh, judgment at bay for another year. So
(16:25):
that's the point of the Yom Kippur sacrifice. Well, why?
Why am I mentioning that? Because it pointed forward to
the day when Messiah would come, and his death and
that ultimate resurrection to prove its truth? Uh, his death
would take away the sin. Uh, blood of bulls and
goats never took away sin. Well, that's why I get
so surprised when people look at the restoration of sacrifices
(16:49):
in the millennium and the Millennial Temple, according to Ezekiel
40 through 48. And they say, wait a minute. Uh,
these sacrifices, uh, are the Messiah came. We don't need
these sacrifices. They can't take away sin. Well, no sacrifices
other than the Messiah's ever took away sin. Just as
the Old Testament sacrifices pointed forward these point backward, there
(17:13):
are going to be people who are born in the millennium.
They too will have to put their trust in Jesus. Uh,
and one of the things that happens in the millennium
is people will live much longer, according to Isaiah 65.
If a person dies at 100, they'll be considered a
young person. So when people are living much longer, they're
going to have a hard time comprehending. What is it
(17:34):
that the Messiah did, that he died for our sins
and rose again? We'll have these sacrifices that will point backwards,
that will help us understand what the significance of the
atonement was. And, uh, and the Messiah's death. And so,
even though he is alive. Well, there he is. He's alive.
What's the big deal? It will explain what the big
(17:55):
deal is. Uh, through those animal sacrifices.
