Pomysł na film został zaprezentowany międzynarodowej publiczności po raz pierwszy na targach Cartoon Movie we Francji w 2014r.
Powstał też wtedy pierwszy draft Diplodoka, który jest wynikiem współpracy kilku autorów. W skład zespołu weszli polscy filmowcy i twórcy komiksów: Wojtek Wawszczyk, Rafał Skarżycki, Tomasz Leśniak, Jakub Tarkowski i Michał Śledziński oraz amerykański scenarzysta Mark Palmer. Historia została dopracowana przez ekspertów Phila Parkera (Aardman), Richelle Wilder (DreamWorks) i reżysera Krisa Pearna (The Willoughbys, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2).`
