Softball Standout – My Guest, Jayla Sites, Hernando High School Junior and Shortstop for the Tigers.
“Dream big, work hard, stay humble.”
Most of you can remember the many stressors that go along with being in high school. However, the Gen Z students have a whole different level of stress and distraction with cell phones and social media. It is for this reason that I am even more so impressed when I find a kid that has their priorities in line and understand the work needed to be great at something.
My guest this week is a junior at Hernando High School in Hernando, MS and is fast on her way to softball greatness. I can remember the first time I saw this young lady she was around 10 years old and I was helping coach the 10U all-stars. Her incredible skill set was easy to see, but what really took me by surprise was when she told me that she didn’t play travel ball for anyone.
Talent and ability is one thing, but Jayla is much more than that. It is her willingness to be a true leader on the field that has scouts talking. She is the encourager and motivator and when she misses a play or strikes out she doesn’t hang her head and get down on herself, she just resolves to work harder.
In addition to her relentless work ethic for softball she puts even more effort into her school work. She quickly explains that her grades come first and then its softball and then recreational activities. Jayla admits that sometimes its tough sacrificing time with friends to dedicate her time to school or softball, but she knows that if she wants to grow and get better it takes self-discipline and hard work. I can say that her future is very bright and the sky is the limit. I am calling my shot with this one…Jayla will play in the professional softball league one day and she is going to be a superstar!
