Ryan Reynolds has performed a miracle with Deadpool & Wolverine, crafting what feels like an extended apology letter to fans who've suffered through the MCU's recent disappointments. This isn't just another superhero movie – it's a statement that someone at Marvel finally understands what audiences have been craving all along.

The film thrives on the undeniable chemistry between Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, creating a dynamic that's both hilariously antagonistic and surprisingly emotional. What makes this pairing work so brilliantly is how the film doesn't shy away from acknowledging the questionable decision to resurrect Wolverine after his perfect send-off in Logan. Instead, it leans into the absurdity through its multiverse framework, while simultaneously mocking the very concept that has become Marvel's narrative crutch.

Where Deadpool & Wolverine truly shines is in its willingness to be unabashedly entertaining without the burden of social commentary that has weighed down recent Marvel entries. The film is packed with cameos and references that reward longtime fans, from Wesley Snipes reclaiming his role as Blade to Channing Tatum finally getting his chance to play Gambit. These moments feel like genuine celebrations of Marvel's cinematic history rather than cheap nostalgia bait. While some references might be too niche for casual viewers, they demonstrate a deep respect for the source material and the fans who've remained loyal despite the studio's recent missteps. If this marks Marvel's return to prioritizing entertainment over messaging, it couldn't have come at a better time. Subscribe to our podcast for more honest takes on the latest blockbusters and let us know if you think this signals Marvel's comeback!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
It wasn't like a lot of the current comedy movies,
and especially the recent MarvelUniverse, where everything is
just handed to you on a silverplatter.
It's like here's the joke.
And also let me just quicklyexplain what the joke is, just
to make sure you really get it.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
And if you don't like the joke, then you're a white,
privileged, straight white male, you piece of shit.
Hey, everyone, and welcome toanother episode of movies worth
seeing.
Today's episode.

(00:34):
Should we do a?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
spoiler talk, or should we just like free flow?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
I reckon we can uh do a spoiler free first half and a
spoiler second half okay, sohere's our spoiler freefree
movie review of Deadpool andWolverine Starring Ryan Reynolds
, who is single-handedly justsaving the entire Marvel
Cinematic Universe at this point.
He's not coy about it either.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
I wouldn't be coy either.
He's owning that, just makegood movies.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
It's not that hard.
Just make movies that theaudience wants and then somehow
they end up really good.
Who would have thought whatwere your thoughts going into
this, of what you thought it wasgoing to turn out like?

Speaker 1 (01:15):
I was excited.
Marvel, disney they're at thelow point Like with the Marvels,
eternals, all the Marvel allthe horrible, horrible, horrible
, horrible flops that are having.
Except for Spider-Man, that wasthe last good one.
For the rest, since Avengers, that feels like it was ages ago
dude.
It feels like it's been ages, but that's the last good movie

(01:36):
they've had.
After that it was just flopafter flop and wokeness after
wokeness and I was just veryhopeful going into this movie
knowing it is deadpool.
It's like no, you're cominghere to be entertained and I'm
gonna do that for you.
That's what you got to see thatbefore.
Not for the story, not for theinspiration or the or the
hopefulness of it.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
You're going there to be entertained yeah, this
wasn't like commenting, makingsocial commentary on like
political wars happening, ormentioning of the presidential
candidates, or any bullshit.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
I'm going to come.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
It was just a fun kind of movie that we could lose
ourselves in, and somehow Idon't know how Ryan Reynolds
manages to do it.
The guy must have some awesomepool power.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
After the first or second Deadpool, I think they're
all sucking his dick there.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Yeah, so he could just walk in and be like you
know what?
I'm going to just say thiswe're going to write this bit of
dialogue where we just tellKevin Feige to suck our dick and
they'll be like give him whathe wants, just do it.
You honestly get the vibe thathe could just get away with
anything.
He could just pitch whatever hewants at this point because

(02:48):
he's got carte blanche to dowhatever he wants, because they
know the first two were sosuccessful.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yeah, pretty much.
The creators of this movie aresuch hardcore fans, they know
what the audience wants andthat's why you got all the
freaking cameos A bit too muchin my opinion sometimes, because
it took a little bit away.
Yeah, I freaking cameos a bittoo much in my opinion sometimes
because it took a little bitaway.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
But yeah, I felt it was a bit too much.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
But it's so good though it makes you feel good
because like, oh my god, it'sthat guy.
Fuck it's awesome.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
I think where the movie was losing me a bit was
when it started going into itswhole multiverse stuff, because
now the multiverse just meansanything can be done, and South
Park made fun of this shit intheir specials where they just
said oh well, it's a multiverselike nothing has consequences
and anything can happen and itdoesn't have to make sense,

(03:38):
which is essentially what thismovie did.
Its main plot comes from thisidea of just Wolverine's meant
to be dead.
Wolverine was dead in Logan.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
I'm just going to grab another.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Wolverine from another universe that we have no
emotional connection with, andwe don't know what he's achieved
, what he hasn't achieved, andwe're learning it as the movie
goes.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
So they're relying on the multiverse.
But then in the climax of thewhole movie, you just see
Deadpool.
Ryan Reynolds just stops thewhole thing.
It's like stop, stop, stop.
Can't we just stop with thewhole multi-universe thing?
It's just been a miss aftermiss, after miss after miss, yet

(04:21):
they're doing it themselves.
Come on now, doll.
Yeah, it's a bit of ahypocritical move this is
something that I noticed with.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Uh, I think I noticed in other deadpool movies or
other movies that are like verymeta I always come back to.
Is it witty and smart if you'rejust acknowledging this thing
is really, but we're gonna do itanyway I think it's like a fine
line.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
It's kind of like a loophole.
Okay, is it witty and smart?
If you're just acknowledgingthis thing is really shit, but
we're going to do it anyway.
I think it's like a fine line.
It's kind of like a loophole.
Okay, madam Web, let's go backto Madam Web, and if you haven't
seen the Madam Web podcast, please go and do so.
It's cringe, very, madam Web.
It was so full of cringe, butthe characters in the whole
movie is trying to take itselfserious, which makes it even

(05:02):
more cringe, whereas withDeadpool there's a lot of cringe
moments such as like, like that.
It's like oh, the multiverse, again and again and again it's
been a miss and miss, miss afteragain and they do it again.
But the fact that theyacknowledge it, it kind of tells
the audience, like we know howyou feel.
It's not that we're trying tobutter you up with like this
inspirational movie such asMadam Web.
Madam.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Web did inspire me in some ways.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
To never ever watch a Sony-produced film ever again?
Yeah, but wait a second.
Isn't Unless it's Spider-Man?
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
I was about to say Spider-Man, you got balls.
Sony, I'll give you that.
To constantly keep going withsomething that you know is not
working takes balls, but it'salso really dumb.
Good job, good job, really goodjob.
Why did you have to bring upMadam Webber?

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Let's go on a rant, guys.
I hate that movie.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
There was niche references that I had to explain
after because they were soniche.
I was like only hardcore fansare going to know these things,
and it does make me wonder, like, how much of these jokes and
references are going to hit for, like more casual audiences.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
But that's what I mean.
It's a fan service.
I'm not a hardcore fan and alot of these niche jokes which
we will spoil a little bit later.
I didn't get them, but when Iheard about it I was like that's
smart.
Yes, I love that.
I love that I didn't get it.
I love that because it showsthat it's not trying to make

(06:33):
everything understandable forthe audience that is not as
involved as the hardcore fan.
It shows it is an ode to thefans of the comics.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Nice and they're probably thinking any fans that
have stood by, like Phase 4,which has been dog shit, anyone
that's stood by that phase, isstill going to watch Deadpool
and Wolverine despite how shitthe cinematic universe is now.
So they're probably thinkinglet's throw them a bone for like
suffering through Eternals andthe Marvels and any other Thor,

(07:08):
Love and Thunder or those moviesGood job.
I guess going into this one ofmy concerns was going to be is
Wolverine just going to, Is thatrelationship just going to be
the entire movie?
And there wasn't really anyroom for any other kind of
characters and I guess itdepends on what your thoughts

(07:29):
were.
On all the side characters fromDeadpool 1 and 2.
For me it kind of sucked in away that there wasn't more
involvement from them.
They all got pushed aside forthe sake of Wolverine coming
back, which I get, because theyneeded something big to hook
people back.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Look as sad as it is.
I think Marvel has no optionbut to bring back old characters
.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
They're probably thinking we don't have the
patience to develop newcharacters or new actors.
We kind of like retired a wholebunch of famous actors from the
characters all at once withendgame.
All right, well, first off, let's give our final rating for
deadpool and wolverine.
Without spoiling, I'm gonna saydeadpool and wolverine is a

(08:18):
return to form for the marvelcinematic universe.
It takes a lot of nostalgiabait and a lot of fan service to
like bring people back in, andthis movie feels like a giant
apology for like the last coupleof years with the marvel
cinematic universe.
It's not my favorite deadpoolmovie, but it's a lot of fun.
Yeah, I love deadpool andwolverine's uh chemistry

(08:40):
together.
I think it's a fun entry in themarvel world and had some
really clever ideas, some greatmeta and the humor was there.
So yeah, man, would I seeanother Deadpool movie after
this?
I'd be a bit weary about themmaking another sequel after this
.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
I don't think they will.
I think this is trilogy.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Well, if this is like the final ride into the sunset,
then it's a pretty solid ending.
I'd give it like three and ahalf.
I'm almost at four stars.
The only thing holding me backis I feel like, while it's fun,
I don't know if I would go outof my way to watch it again.
You know what this brings up agood point.
I feel like this movie is greatbecause the standards of the

(09:24):
cinematic universe are so lowright now, whereas if this
deadpool movie came out whenMarvel was hitting its peak
around endgame time, I don'tknow if we'd still say the same
thing.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
I don't think you'd be able to say the same thing,
because all the jokes are madeknowing they're at the low point
.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
That's true as well.
A lot of material comes fromthe fact that they're
acknowledging how crap thecinematic universe is.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
A freaking, amazing, fantastic intro and I just love
they finally metal skeleton itand just beat the shit out of a
lot of TVA agents With therhythm, the music, the effects
of it, the mockery.
It was just.
I thought it was brilliant.
You cracked up.
You cannot lie.
This guy was laughing his assoff for half the movie.
That is a testament, eventhough he laughs easily.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
But point fucking proven Put your pants down and
I'll start laughing right now,ha ha ha ha.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Okay, Spoiler talk what do you I haven't even given
my stars yet.
Hurry the fuck up.
I only talked about the introcredit.
You took over, you little dick.
Ha ha, I think four stars.
The plot is not why you go tosee the movie and, like you said
it perfectly, it's an apologyfor the last few years of
absolute rubbish from Marvel.
Based on that, I think they didexceptionally well.

(10:39):
It was funny, mocked the wholeculture.
There were so many layers to it, a lot of Denise jokes like we
were saying before I didn't getthem.
But then, reading about themlater or hear you talk about it
later, it's like, oh my God,that is brilliant and it keeps
me thinking.
I am soaking wet right now.
Now to get into spoilerterritory, your little cinematic

(10:59):
universe is about to changeforever.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Way to start the dog joke.
It's too stupid man.
Some of the jokes in this movieI'm like that was too f***ing
dumb and like f*** it's not thatfunny?

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Come on, it was funny the first time.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Yeah, the first and the second time I was like okay.
But then third, fourth, fifth,I'm like f***, fuck this dog off
, fuck it when it came to thecameos.
Cameos were brilliant SeeingWesley Snipes back as Blade and
say like I'm the one and onlyBlade, when we know that
Marvel's been doing all thisbullshit to try and get a new

(11:38):
actor to play Blade in a newmovie, which is so dumb because
the guy's in shape, he knowswhat he's doing, he would be
able to pull it off and just getso much.
I don't know why they're tryingto recast these things, and
that's exactly why they'redriving mockery out of it.
Also, that's the good part allthe fights between deadpool and
wolverine.
They're fun and it's great fanservice.

(12:00):
But after a while you're kindof like I know you guys can't
die, so where's this going?
This is just kind of likeflashy okay, yeah, that's a good
point.
Yeah, I agree um okay, tworeasons why I hate the villain.
Number one I don't understandwho the fuck she is.
They say she's the twin ofprofessor x.

(12:20):
Number two you have no ideawhat her motivation is.
She's just generic villain thatwants to destroy this.
This mcguffin so silly.
I don't give a f**k, I don'tcare.
She could just easily killdeadpool and wolverine in two
seconds.
You've established that she hastoo much power.
She's super overpowered, so shecould easily kill them.

(12:41):
She does have one really cool, visually stunning kind of power
that I've never seen before yourhand, where she's like finger
f***ing a guy's face with herfingers and it gets really weird
, the joke you told me fromElektra that her ex-husband is
not playing.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Oh, yeah.
It's just so niche that is soniche.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Channing Tatum as Gambit was f***ing amazing.
I was like dude, give me aGambit movie, I'd fucking
subscribe to that x23, that'sher name, uh, logan's daughter.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
She had one heartfelt moment with Wolverine, which
was absolutely needed becausethey never actually had a good
set off to get like they did.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
You had to do that after Logan.
Exactly Everyone would be likewhoa, but at the same time it's
a different Wolverine.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
It's a different Wolverine as well, but still
that connection.
It could have been so much moreinteresting not to make the
scene any longer.
Just a little bit more layers,a little bit more depth, a bit
more interesting choices there, and then just it was supposed to
be heartfelt but it reallywasn't.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
That's very interesting because she was
really good in Logan.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
She was amazing.
Is it the same actress?
Yeah, it's the same actress.
Well, Michael's got someinteresting and exciting news.
This is the last time we'redoing the podcast in this room.
Thank f**k.
No more dog barking in the back.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Unless there's a dog barking at my other home where
I'm moving.
Yeah, hope not.
The next time we do this, we'llbe in a very nice cinema room,
exciting, which hopefully willblock out all the noise from the
outside world.
Yeah, and then, yeah, the realfun will start.
So that's our thoughts onDeadpool and Wolverine.
