Founder's Story EP 12

Darren and Kim are sharing their founder’s story. It’s probably not what you’d expect and like lots of entrepreneurs, there were some twists and turns along the way. The Door Guru business is starting to gain traction and when talking to people who are learning about it for the first time, one question keeps coming up. “How did you decide to start the Door Guru franchise?” It’s a great question and today you’re getting the answer. Like many entrepreneurs, Darren wanted to start something on his own. He had a very successful run at his family’s business and realized he wanted to do his own thing. Both Darren and Kim share that they are visionaries. They dream big and can see the possibilities. Hear what was the most pivotal point that really helped them change things. It’s only in hindsight that they realized how much this pushed them to see things in a new way. The uncertainty that a big life event caused made them reevaluate everything. Here’s what they asked themselves: “What do we want the future to look like?” Such a great question! Kim and Darren discuss how they answered that and why it led to multiple big life changes. They create space to find out what could be possible. Part of that meant jumping into semi-retirement including travel. That’s when they realized being semi-retired needed to look different for them. Being visionaries meant they had lots of ideas and they tried a few of them on. Darren went back to doing some work he’d done before gaining clients, providing quotes and invoicing after the job with nothing except his phone. Eureka! Kim remembers this specifically, when Darren realized that he could teach others to do what he was doing. He could teach people how to make money while working hours that allowed for a rewarding life.  That was the genesis of the Door Guru Franchise.
