Speaker 1 (00:00):
Tonight, chris Evans
returns to the MCU, clayface,
the movie the Enterprise and theRetiree, and Sesame Street gets
evicted.
All that and more on thisedition of Multiverse tonight.
There are many universes outthere.
(00:30):
Welcome to the one with newsabout all the others.
This is Multiverse Tonight.
Now here's your host, thomasTownley.
Hi, of course, your ever-lovinghost, thomas Townley.
I'm, of course, yourever-loving host, thomas Townley
.
And well, it's been a busy week.
Let me just say that, for one,I might have a new job.
(00:55):
Right now it's still tentative.
I don't have much on the way.
Let's just say it involves myfavorite drink and doing some
merchandising.
(01:16):
I've been at Walmart for over 12years and I like it there.
I like the people, I like thejob, I like the pace.
Trouble is the pay is pitiful.
For how long I've been there?
I've been there 12 years andI'm making just above the
minimum wage.
Because every time they raisethe minimum wage, instead of
(01:39):
giving people who have beenthere for longer an additional
raise for time served, theydon't.
They just raise you to the newminimum and you start fresh from
there.
So someone who comes in rightoff the street gets $14, and so
do I.
It's ridiculous.
And this new job pays nearly$19 an hour to start, and here's
(02:05):
at least a dollar an hour raisesomewhere in the future after
that.
So, yeah, this new job willprobably be a little bit more
intensive, more of a work on me.
I'll be pulling stuff more.
I'll be working stuff more.
(02:25):
I'll be working with a team, and so things will change.
I'll probably not be runningthe show on Mondays or taping
the shows on Mondays anymore, because I think this has like a
Saturday, sunday, it will be mydays off.
So you know that will be that.
(02:48):
But you know I will keepcontinuing doing this podcast.
You know this is kind of mytalk therapy, if you will.
Now, if you'd like tocontribute to the podcast, head
on over to multiversetonightcomto find all our info there.
But let's get on to the Marvelcomics news, and Marvel news
(03:35):
begins with Chris Evansreturning to the Marvel
Cinematic Universe as part ofthe cast for Avengers Doomsday,
the highly anticipated sequelthat will also star Robert
Downey Jr as Doctor Doom.
The rep has learned that Evanswill be involved in some
capacity, but the extent andexact nature of his role is
currently unknown.
After sunsetting as SteveRogers' character in 2019's
Avengers Endgame, evans recentlymade a brief return in this
(03:56):
summer's Deadpool and Wolverine, but has his character, johnny
Storm from Fox's Fantastic Fourmovies, not Captain America.
Storm from Fox's Fantastic Fourmovies, not Captain America.
The Russo brothers, whodirected both Evans and Downey
Jr in Captain America, civil War, avengers, infinity War and
Avengers Endgame, are returningto direct Avengers Doomsday and
its direct sequel, avengersSecret Wars.
Avengers Doomsday is slated forrelease on May 1st 2026.
(04:21):
Now, evans' return to the MCUhas long been rumored in fanboy
circles, but Marvel has, ofcourse, declined to comment.
The circumstances of his returnare of particular interest
given that Steve Rogers was anold man at the end of Avengers
Endgame.
But Danny Jr is returning toMarvel as a Tony Stark variant
(04:42):
after his on-screen version ofStark died in Endgame.
So all options are on the table.
Evans' team did not immediatelyrespond to the RAP's request
for comment, but Evans lastappeared in Captain America in
Avengers Endgame.
Anthony Mackie is the currentCaptain America in its current
iteration, with the new filmCaptain America Brave New World
(05:04):
opposite Harrison Ford, and thatwill come into theaters on my
birthday, february 14th 2025.
You know why not.
You know he can be anything, chris Evans, you know.
So let's not guess, let's notspeculate.
(05:25):
Let's just you know.
Sit back and enjoy.
Wait it out Now, with ChrisEvans likely reprising his role
in Marvel Studios' AvengersDoomsday, it looks like his
former partner in crime willalso be joining him in the new
Marvel movie.
Sources tell Deadline thatHayley Atwell is expected to
reprise her Agent Carter role inthe film, with Anthony and Joe
(05:46):
Russo are returning to direct, with Marvel president Kevin
Feige on board to produce.
Now, marvel, of course, did notrespond for comment and plot
details are unknown at this timeand of course, as I said before
, the film comes on May 1st 2026.
Begin your speculation now.
And speaking of movies that justdidn't hit the mark, sony's
(06:09):
Kraven the Hunter is on theprowl for one of the worst
starts for a Marvel movie at thebox office.
The latest in Sony's Spider-Manuniverse, starring Aaron
Taylor-Johnson as the iconicSpider-Man villain, debuted in
third place over the weekendwith a franchise-low $11 million
domestically from 3,211theaters.
Jc Condor's R-rated actionmovie opened below expectations,
(06:32):
having been projected to earnat least $13-15 million in its
opening weekend, behind boxoffice bomb Madam Web, which
made $15.3 million before criticreviews skewered Craven on
Rotten Tomatoes and openingnight moviegoers gave it a poor
C grade on CinemaScore a rarityfor the superhero genre.
Yeah, when I saw that trailerfor the movie, it's like I don't
(06:58):
need to see this for the movie.
It's like I don't need to seethis.
Anyway, let's go on to the DCComics News, and DC Comics News
(07:20):
begins Fresh off the success ofthe HBO series, the Penguin.
Dc Studios has officiallygreenlit a feature film based
around Clayface, theshape-shifting Batman villain,
from a script written by DrSleep filmmaker Mike Flanagan.
According to a source withdirect knowledge of the
production Now, plot details are, of course, pretty much
(07:41):
non-existent, but filming isexpected to begin early next
year.
Matt Reeves and Lynn Harriswill produce through their
company Sixth and IdahoProductions, and Warner Brothers
has set the film for release onSeptember 11, 2026.
Flanagan, who first pitched DCStudios on a Clayface project
back in 2023, tweeted in 2021that he was really quote, really
(08:05):
keen to do a standaloneClayface movie as a horror,
slash, thriller, slash, tragedy,unquote.
But he's already committed towrite and then direct a new take
on the Exorcist Reversal, andhe's also developing a series
adaptation of Stephen King'snovel Carrie for Amazon MGM
Studios.
So DC has been on the hunt fora director to take the reins,
with an announcement imminentany day.
(08:27):
Now let's go on to the Star Treknews.
You gotta love the end of theyear, folks, because there's
just a lot of news coming out.
It's pretty much hit or missDateline.
Huntington, new York, a LongIsland retiree who no longer
drives has been receivingthousands of dollars in parking
(08:48):
tickets from all over thecountry because she says her
license plates match theStarship Enterprise's numbers.
According to CBS New York'sstory last week, which has now
been resolved, beta Corey'sscience fiction-themed dilemma
has been four years of tears forthe Huntington grandma, beta
(09:08):
Corey.
After beginning to lose hereyesight, she gave up driving,
sold her car and surrendered herlicense plates in 2020.
The problem is Corey's New Yorklicense plates share the same
number as the StarshipEnterprise NCC-1701.
And Trekkies all over the globehave been buying matching
novelty plates, putting them ontheir cars and racking up
hundreds of tickets that have,of course, been delivered to
(09:29):
Corey's mailbox.
Corey said in a statement quoteI won't cry because it's a
simple matter that they couldhave fixed.
Now she has even been receivingthreats from Ohio and Canada,
places where people with thosefake plates committed crimes.
Quote according to attorneyKenneth Mullins, within two
(09:52):
hours of receiving the letter, Igot a call from the general
counsel Now.
Mullins said not on my watch.
Mullins saw CBS News' New Yorkoriginal story and volunteered
his expertise.
Quote this is a lady who wasbeaten up by a big bad
corporation for four years.
Mullen said New York said thatCorey no longer has the plates
(10:13):
attached to her name andMullen's research determined
that her name and address werenever removed.
So he got the DMV's top brassinvolved.
Cbs News' New York said it wasthere when Corey got the
life-altering news.
Quote Mullen said your matterhas been totally resolved.
Now how to prevent this fromhappening to anyone else?
(10:36):
Corey will no longer be inthose tickets, but it begs the
question who will happening toanyone else?
Corey will no longer be inthose tickets, but it begs the
question who will?
Now some of the companiesmanufacturing these Star Trek
and other novelty plates areselling them with pre-drilled
holes for Malyon cars.
Mullins said quote it's nowillegal to sell vanity plates in
New York.
The Parking and ViolationsBureau told CBS News New York it
is moving to dismiss Corey's194 New York City tickets and
(10:58):
Mullins will now work onhundreds of summonses from 23
other states that want Corey'smoney.
Corey said finally, now I'mgoing to make a hole in the yard
and bury those documents, thesehundreds of tickets.
I feel sorry for her, but youknow it's not her fault, it's
not the fault of people whobought those vanity license
(11:22):
plates.
It's the fault of the state ofNew York and the other places
who are just seeing those threeletters followed by four numbers
and just going after her.
So you know it's a governmentscrew-up.
Let's just put that there.
Anyway, that's all the StarTrek news I have for you.

everyone at Sesame Street onthe Iconic Children's series,

series on Max in the US,according to a spokesman for the
streaming service.
As we've launched Max, though, and based on consumer usage and
feedback, we've had toprioritize our focus on stories
for adults and families, and sonew episodes from Sesame Street
(15:49):
at this time are not as core toour strategy.
Jeez, you know it's kind of sadthat you know.
