Speaker 1 (00:58):
Well, hello everyone
and welcome to episode 233 of
Multiverse Tonight.
I'm, of course, your host, tomStanley, and it's another cold
day on the plains.
I can tell you that we'reexpecting snow tomorrow evening
and into Wednesday it might dropseveral inches, and you know so
(01:22):
it's just a cold day In.
You know, other personal newsthe store that I'm working at is
getting remodeled, so I have toput up with that until April,
but other than that, things havebeen going pretty well.
So let's you know, just cut thechat and go on to the DC Comics
(01:44):
News.
And we start DC News with theestate of Joseph Schuster, the
(02:08):
co-creator of the iconicsuperhero Superman, who has
initiated legal action againstWarner Bros, discovery and DC
Comics.
The lawsuit contends that thecompanies are not legally
entitled to distribute theforthcoming Superman film in
specific crucial internationalmarkets.
Now the legal dispute resolvesaround foreign copyright laws
(02:33):
that automatically revertownership rights back to the
Schuster estate 25 years afterthe author's death.
The estate argues that WarnerBrothers has been exploiting the
Superman character in theseterritories without proper
authorization, thus infringingupon their rights.
Now Warner Bros has respondedto the lawsuit by expressing
their disagreement with theclaims made by the Schuster
(02:54):
estate.
The company maintains that theypossess the necessary rights to
distribute the Superman film inthe territories in question and
intends to vigorously defendtheir legal position in question
.
And intends to vigorouslydefend their legal position Now.
The outcome of this lawsuitcould have significant
implications for thedistribution and exploitation of
the Superman character ininternational markets.
If the Schuster estate issuccessful, it could potentially
(03:16):
lead to Superbrothers beingrequired to renegotiate their
rights or face restrictions ontheir ability to release
Superman-related content incertain territories.
This legal dispute alsohighlights the complexities of
international copyright laws andthe challenges faced by
companies operating in a globalmarketplace.
There will be no third seasonfor the Sandman.
(03:37):
Netflix made the announcementFriday on social media that the
upcoming second season will beits last.
Now the official announcementcomes amid sexual assault and
misconduct allegations againstNeil Gaiman, who created the
comic on which the series isbased and developed and
executive produced the Netflixseries.
Gaiman has denied theallegations Now.
(03:57):
It had been decided beforefilming began on season two that
it would serve as the series'conclusion, with the storyline
completing dream story arc.
The sandman series has alwaysbeen focused exclusively on
dream story and back in 2022,when looked at they looked at
the remaining dream materialfrom the comics there was.
They knew that they had onlyenough story for one more season
(04:19):
, according to showrunner AlanHeinberg, who, wrote in a post
shared online, went on to say weare extremely grateful to
Netflix for bringing the teamall back together and giving us
the time and resources to make afaithful adaptation in a way
that we hope will surprise anddelight the comics' loyal
readers as well as fans of theshow.
(04:42):

project.
Now let's go on to the Marvelnews.
Nearly 35 years after creatingDeadpool, rob Liefeld has
reached his boiling point withMarvel Studios.
The comic creator who conceivedthe character in the 1990 issue
(05:49):
of New Mutants publicly cutties with Marvel, as he
recounted being snubbed at theJuly 2024 premiere of Deadpool
and Wolverine Quote.
It was meant to embarrass, diminish and defeat me, which he
said in the last episode of hisRobstervations podcast, which
was titled Marvel access denied.
He recalled being ignored byMarvel Studios boss Kevin Feige
(06:14):
on the red carpet before findingout that he and his family were
not invited to the after party, the final straw for Liefeld.
Meanwhile, liefeld posed on thecarpet with creatives from the
movie but later learned thosephotos were deleted, as he
believes they're only taken toappease him.
Quote at some point you go.
I've received the message andthe message is clear.
(06:34):
He added Now.
Previously, liefeld sent amessage to Marvel after they
granted Wolverine co-creator RoyThomas a special spot in the
film's credits, which upsetco-creator Len Wynn's widow,
christian Vallada, a friend ofLiefeld.
He also inquired about aspecial mention for himself in
(06:54):
the credits, noting he did notask for money.
Quote Marvel's treatment ofcreators has never been their
strength.
Without the world, the creatorsand the concepts that we create
, and in this specific case, theworld of Deadpool, there are no
films to shoot, no blockbustersto distribute.
I am not the easy button thatstaples, I am the human
imagination behind it all.
(07:16):
Unquote.
Comic book creators cannotcontinue to be relegated as
afterthoughts.
This is easy to address.
Unless I reach out to addressit, it will never manifest.
Unquote.
That's some personalobservations here.
He thinks too much of himself.
Yeah, he, you know he giveshimself way too much credit for
(07:41):
things, so it's best to take himwith a grain of salt.
Plus, he can never draw feet.
Anyway, let's go on to the StarWars news.
Star Wars news begins withDisneyland finally answering the
question that has hung overGalaxy's Edge since the Star

?

Disneyland in Anaheim.
Up until now, the old-schoolcharacters from the original

Edge by Imagineering From astorytelling standpoint.
The Star Wars Galactic Calendarmarks time on either side of
the attack of the Death Starknown as the Battle of Yavin.
Dates fall before the Battle ofYavin or after the
universe-saving attack.
Aby Galaxy's Edge is setbetween 34 ABY when the Last
(09:29):
Galaxy takes place and 35 ABYwhen the Rise of Skywalker film

kayfabe, as the wrestling fanssay.

The nature of Weaver's rolemeant she got to share scenes
with the adorable Grogu, whichshe said was her primary reason
for joining the project.
Quote.
He's a little badass too.
It's going to be wonderful forpeople to see what Grogu is up
to now, because he's grown up alittle bit and is capable of
(10:33):
much more than maybe we thinkjust by watching the series.
Unquote.

in a joint news release thatthey have reached a deal to
license Magic the Gathering toLegendary for development into a

Dune and Dune Part II and therecent run of Godzilla and King
Kong movies, including GodzillaX and Kong the New Empire.
There were no initial detailsabout what area of magic the
studio might want to explore orwho would be involved with the
production.
The initial news release justpromised quote a multimedia
(22:22):
universe that throwslong-standing fans and creates a
broad wave of new ones.
Unquote.
But looking at Legendary'sother output, such as
Christopher Nolan's Interstellarand Inception, the 2016
Warcraft movie, zack Snyder'sman of Steel and Watchmen and
the Pokemon Detective Pikachumovie, at least suggests the
(22:43):
specific dark, somber tone andblockbuster scope that the
company might bring to thematerial.
Now this news release notesthat Hasbro has also licensed
Magic the Gathering to Netflixfor the previously reported and
recently revived upcominganimated TV series, which
suggests this deal hasn'tcancelled, overwritten the old
(23:03):
one.
Presumably Legendary's plannedmagic universe won't intersect
