the man of Tomorrow, star Warsgets big and Call of Duty the
movie.
All that and more on thisedition of Multiverse Tonight.
Welcome to Multiverse Tonight, your source for geek news.
We dissect films, games, comicsand much more, bringing you

(00:20):
insightful commentary on popculture.
This is Multiverse Tonight.
Now here's your host, thomasTownley.
Well, hello there and welcometo episode 248 of Multiverse
Tonight.
I'm, of course, your host, thomas Townley, and it's Star
Trek Day Today.
59 years ago, the first episodeof Star Trek, the original

(00:45):
series, aired on NBC.
So we'll have a little bit ofStar Trek Day news coming up
here in a minute.
I've been doing fine.
It's lovely weather right now.
Summer has taken its ownvacation and has left the

(01:07):
building pretty much, where it'sstill getting like 70s and 80s
during the day, but it's gettinglike cool 60s at night.
You know something bad's goingto happen eventually, but
there's nothing we can really doabout.

(01:27):
That is there.
Now let's get on with the StarTrek news.

(01:51):
Star Trek news begins with StarTrek gearing up for its 60th
anniversary next year andpromising a year of fan-focused
celebration.
Now these will include specialevents, new partnerships, a
parade float in the Rose Bowland the debut of several new
series Star Trek, starfleetAcademy, a new series on YouTube
called Star Trek Scouts, and ascripted podcast, star Trek Con.

(02:11):
Now, the latter two launchedjust today, september 8th, in
conjunction with Star Trek Day,which commemorates the 1966
pilot premiere of Star Trek, theoriginal series.
Now the festivities will kickoff with a customized float at
the Rose Parade on New Year'sDay in Pasadena, california.
The float's design will buy thefranchise's core values of hope

(02:32):
, inclusivity, exploration andunity, and will also highlight
the upcoming Star Trek Academyseries starring Holly Hunter and
Paul Giamatti, introducing anew group of cadets navigating
friendships, rivalries, firstloves and new adversaries
threatening both the Academy andthe Federation.
Though we do not have yet anofficial release date for the
series, star Trek Scouts marksthe franchise's entry into

(02:55):
preschool programming.
Developed by NickelodeonDigital Studios in collaboration
with CBS Studios, it followsthree eight-year-old friends, jr
, Sprocket and Rue, as theytrain to become Starfleet
explorers through variousout-of-this-world missions.
The universe of Star Trek isalso expanding with Star Trek
Con, a podcast tracing theuntold events on City Alpha 5

(03:16):
and chronicling Con'stransformation from a superhuman
visionary into the vengefulvillain we see in Star Trek 2.
Naveen Andrews will voice Khan, supported by a cast including
Ren Schmidt, sonya Cassidy andStar Trek veterans Tim Russ and
George Takai.
New episodes will be releasedweekly on Mondays until November
3rd, available on major podcastplatforms and YouTube.

(03:38):
New partnerships are also partof the anniversary celebrations,
including a Do Something Boldly, go Green environmental
campaign and the first-evercollaboration to bring the Star
Trek world to Legos, with moredetails to follow Digitally.
The franchise will expand intothe comic space with Webtoon and

(04:00):
launch an official anniversarywebsite, startrek60.com, serving
as a hub for activities andinformation For dedicated fans.
Star Trek the Cruise will setsail on February 20th through
the 27th next year, featuringlegacy actors William Shatner,
walter Koenig and 20 otherperformers from across the Star
Trek universe.
Meanwhile, star Trek StrangeNew World Season 3 concludes

(04:22):
this week and the 4th and 5thseasons are already anticipated.
And if you're watching this onYouTube, you'll see the brand
new Captain Picard Lego minifig.
Yeah, this might be.
I might actually have to buyone or two of these sets.

(04:42):
I know I'm going to catch grieffor it from the wife, but damn
it, all you got me.
You got me with Star Trek.
I at least have to have eachbridge set.

(05:03):
I guess Sounds like the 60thanniversary like each bridge set
, I guess.
But you know, sounds like the60th anniversary is going to be
an interesting one, hopefullywith no specials and no soprano
saxophone, if you know what Imean.
Anyway, let's go on to the DCComics News, and DC Comics News

(05:39):
begins where else?
With James Gunn revealing thatnot only is Superman Yang a
sequel, but it's pretty high onthat priority list as it now has
a release date.
The sequel is titled man ofTomorrow and it will be released
on July 9th 2027, althoughthat's not the only noteworthy
detail.
Gunn shared an image fromsuperstar artist Jim Lee to go
with the announcement, and itfeatures David Cornswet's

(06:00):
Superman in full movie costumestanding alongside Nicholas
Holt's Lex Luthor, which is abig reveal in itself after the
events of the first film.
On top of that, lex is sportinghis iconic green and purple
armor, so it would suggest thatSuperman and Luthor might be
teaming up to take on an evenbigger threat in the film.
Now, while it feels like theywill be teaming up during the

(06:21):
film, that doesn't mean we won'tsee Superman and Luthor throw
hands at some point.
Both Corn Sweat and Holt sharednew art pieces featuring their
characters starring, with CornSweat sharing artwork by George
Jimenez.
The artwork shows Superman andLuthor staying side by side,
like the piece shared by JamesGunn, though that changes in the
next piece, holt shared artworkby Mitch Gerads.

(06:42):
But this one takes a turn andshows Superman and Luther
battling.
While it seems we will see themworking together at some point,
rest assured that whatevermight align them won't hide the
fact that this is still Supermanand his greatest nemesis, which
the first film showed that fansjust how ruthless Luther can be
.
The question then becomes who isa big enough villain that

(07:04):
Superman and Lex Luthor need toteam up against to take down?
There are several compellingoptions.
In that regard.
General Zod comes to mind, although, frankly, haven't we
seen enough of General Zod asthis brainiac and dark side.
But we'll just have to wait andsee.
Personally, I would rather seeBrainiac.
We've never really seenBrainiac done in the movie space

(07:30):
.
We've seen Zod.
We've seen Darkseid Go forBrainiac.
Give us this or give ussomething.
Give us Doomsday, you know, ormake that the third film, man of

(07:54):
Steel, man of Tomorrow, makethe third film Last Son of
Krypton, and have it be Supermanversus Doomsday, ending with
Superman getting killed.
So you have to have the returnof Superman.
Just a thought.

(08:15):
Anyway, let's go on to the StarWars news.
Roger roger, the largest screenin the world, might be
traveling to a galaxy far, faraway soon.
On Sunday, bloomberg reportedthat James Dolan, chief
executive of the spear, theentertainment venue in Los
Angeles in Las Vegas, is intalks with the Walt Disney
company to play a few of itstitles they have in their

(08:37):
catalog, including star Wars.
The news comes on the heels ofa highly successful run of the
wizard of Oz, the 86 year oldmovie that has already sold
200,000 tickets in just a fewweeks.
Up until recently, the site wasused as a concert venue, the
largest in the world, butBloomberg argued that it is
actually a movie theater, andthis is substantiated by the

(08:57):
profit margins they've seen sofar.
When U2 and the Backstreet Boysplay the Spear, the band gets
more than half the ticket price.
When the Wizard of Oz playsthere, the Spear keeps around
70%, according to a researchfirm.
Now the Wizard of Oz at theSpear has not been free of
controversy.
The film was trimmed down to 70minutes, retooled with AI for a

(09:18):
modern audience.
Critics and film historianshave panned the experiment as
they were trying to add morefuel to the fire.
Dolan and Warner Bros DiscoveryCEO, david Zaslav, admitted a
few days ago to having digitallyinserted themselves into the
movie.
All of this, of course, wouldbe hanging over a screening of A
New Hope in the Spear.

(09:38):
Star Wars movies are veryfamiliar with altered versions
of the original cut, but itseems doubtful that George Lucas
allowed Disney to alter his sixoriginal movies in any way when
he sold them to the company in2012.
For now, this seems to be in thepreliminary stages at best, but
heads are all returning thanksto the cloud provided by the
Wizard of Oz, and now it's timeto start thinking about

(10:01):
expanding the business.
With the 50th anniversary of ANew Hope coming up, it would be
a rising tide that lifts allboats.
The 1977 movie has already beenannounced to be returning to
theaters in late April 2027.
Now let's go on to the geeknews Everyone's dying to see.

(10:36):

announcement for the it Welcometo Derry release date.

produced by Bill Skarsgård, inits return as the terrifying
clown Pennywise, will launch onOctober 26th on HBO Max.

Paramount, now under Skydanceand the leadership of chairman
and CEO David Ellison, isdeveloping a live-action feature
film based on Activision'sbest-selling video game, call of
Duty.
This project holds particularsignificance for Ellison, a

(11:40):
longtime fan of the game.
Paramount has officiallyfinalized the film deal with
Activision, with Activision alsoserving as a creative partner.
The studio known for Top GunMaverick sees Call of Duty as a
natural fit.
This isn't the first attempt tobring the franchise to the big
screen.
Activision Blizzard Studiospreviously tried in February

(12:00):
2018 with Sicario 2's directorStefano Salima, but that effort
did not materialize.
Call of Duty is one of the mostsuccessful video game franchises
of all time, holding the titleof number one best-selling video
game series in the US for 16consecutive years, and has sold
over half a billion copiesworldwide and reached millions

(12:20):
of players globally.
David Ellison expressed hisenthusiasm, saying, quote as a
lifelong fan of Call of Duty, this is truly a dream come true.
From the first Allied campaignsto the original Call of Duty,
through Modern Warfare and BlackOps, I have spent countless
hours playing this franchisethat I absolutely love.
Being a trusted Activisionplayers worldwide to bring this

(12:42):
extraordinary storytellinguniverse to the big screen is
both an honor and aresponsibility that we don't
take lightly.
We're approaching this filmwith the same disciplined,
uncompromising commitment toexcellence that guided our work
in Top Gun Maverick, ensuring itmeets the exceptional high
standards this franchise and itsfans deserve.
I can promise that we areresolute in our mission to

(13:03):
deliver a cinematic experiencethat honors the legacy of this
one in a million brand thrillinglongtime fans of Call of Duty
with captivating a whole newgeneration.
Unquote.
Now, what do you think of Callof Duty?
The movie?
You know, and it's, you know,it's very Call of Duty.

(13:24):
The games go all the way backto World War I, all the way
forward to some far off futureconflict.
So where exactly will they basethis game?
In the distant past, distantfuture now?
Well, you know?

(13:46):
Civil War 2?
Where, who knows.
I do know one thing I'm notgoing to see it because Call of
Duty is not my bag.
