Speaker 1 (00:01):
Tonight.
Superman loses the legacy, apocalypse looks for an heir,
patrick Stewart gets honored andthe naked gun reboots.
Plus, we remember Star Trekactor Kenneth Mitchell.
All that more in this editionof Multiverse tonight.
The book's sci-fi fantasy andmore.

(00:24):
If you're looking for a roundupof geeky news, you're in the
right place.
This is Multiverse Tonight, andhere's our host, thomas Townley.

(00:55):
Well, hello everyone, andwelcome to episode 210 of
Multiverse Tonight, recorded onMarch 11th 2024.
I'm, of course, your host, thomas Townley, and well, not
really much to report right now.
Spring is springing upon us.

(01:20):
We got through daylight savingstime which, by the way, let's
all beat down on our members ofCongress to finally get rid of
this annual pain in the butt.
So please do that if you would, but I will.

(01:44):
Since this just happened lastnight, let's cover the Oscars
briefly Now.
Oppenheimer was the big winnerlast night, winning Best Picture
, director and five other awardsfor seven total, I mean and
broke a 20-year streak of ablockbuster not winning and not

(02:07):
winning the top prize.
Also, emma Stone and SillyMurphy took home the lead acting
prizes.
Christopher Nolan took awayBest Director.
Robert Downley Jr finally wonan Oscar for Best Supporting
Actor.
Now, oppenheimer isn't sciencefiction, of course, but again

(02:34):
didn't mention Emma Stonewinning Best Actress for Poor
Things.
It's kind of in the genre realm.
The big loser, of course, isBarbie, which apparently was
shut out.
Now let me get that little listof awards here.
Barbie won Best Original Songfor what Was I Made For from

(02:59):
Billie Eilish.
Billie Eilish and Fania SokanolOppenheimer won Best Music.
The Zone of Interest won forBest Sound.
Godzilla minus one did win forvisual effects, so it's a win
for the genre film, and PoorThings won Costume Design and

(03:22):
Production Design.
Now, my thing about the Oscarsis there really should be a Best
Drama and Best Comedy award, not just Best Picture.
Best Picture is always going tobe a drama, you know.
Unless it's a movie that causespeople to die laughing, it's
always going to be a drama.

(03:42):
So why not have an award forBest Comedy?
You know, it just seems to makemore sense to me.
But what can we do about it?
Caller Congressman?
The bath, I guess.

(04:03):
Anyway, let's go on with the DCComics News and DC Comics News
and that's an adequate, you know, a right musical piece that

(04:26):
starts this with, because wewill be talking about Superman.
James Gunn revealed that hisnew Superman movie will simply
be called Superman.
Well, you know it'll be.
It'll be, you know, superman2025.
It'll be how it's going to betalked about, because we already

(04:47):
have Superman, even though it'scalled Superman the movie.
But I digress.
Anyway, mr Gunn wrote in a postcelebrating the first day of
filming, quote when I finishedthe first draft of the script, I
called the film Superman Legacy.
By the time I locked the finaldraft, it was clear.
The title was Superman makingour way to you, july 2025.

(05:11):
Now, along with that post, heshared an image of the Superman
logo from the film, which waspreviously called Superman
Legacy.
Right and the snowdusting onthe logo suggests the scene set
in the fortress of Solitude, youknow, which should be in the
film.
I mean, that's someplace theSuperman, you know, has to go.
That's his headquarters.
He was not just a metropolisall the time, you know, he's a

(05:35):
worldwide phenomenon.
Speaking of the new Supermanmovie, they found their Perry
White actor.
Wendell Pierce, best known forhis work as a detective on the
wire, has been cast as theiconic editor-in-chief of the
Dale Planet.
The new feature based on the DCComics character began rolling
this past Thursday in Atlanta.

(05:56):
He joins David Cornswet asClark Kent Superman.
Rachel Brosnahan as Los Laneand Nicholas Holt as classic
villain Lex Luthor.
Yeah, but Lex Luthor needs asidekick, otherwise we can't get
G Mr Luthor.
I volunteered to be thesidekick just to say that G Mr

(06:19):
Luthor, and then you can kill meright off.
Calgadot, best known for playingWonder Woman in various DC
films good or bad, you decidewill soon be seen as the evil
queen in Disney's live-actionadaptation of Snow White and the
Seven Dwarves, announced onInstagram that she recently gave
birth to her fourth daughter, her daughter named Ori.

(06:40):
She had with her husband, geronVersano.
The couple's other children areAlma, born 2011, maya, born
2017, and Daniela, born 2021.
She wrote quote my sweet girl, welcome.
The pregnancy was not easy andwe made it through.
You have brought so much lightinto our lives, living up to
your name, ori, which means mylight in Hebrew.

(07:02):
Our hearts are full ofgratitude.
Welcome to the house of girls.
Daddy is pretty cool too,unquote.
Now let's go on to the MarvelNews, and we begin Marvel News

(07:26):
with Apocalypse.
No, not the apocalypse inAmerica, but the apocalypse in
the comics.
Apocalypse is looking for anheir and he has some mutants in
mind.
Apocalypse aka in Sabaneur.
The first one the ancient evilwas destined to become
Apocalypse, a mutant supremacistwho was instilled with the

(07:46):
belief that the strong willsurvive.
Now, thousands of years later, apocalypse sought to enslave or
exterminate all but thestrongest mutants and rule over
a world where ideology, thesurvival of the fittest, with
his forehorsemen of theapocalypse, famine, pestilence,
death and war, apocalypseconquered civilizations
throughout the centuries andbecame an arch enemy of the

(08:09):
X-Men.
But then the Cracowen Age ofthe X-Men ushered in a new era
for mutankind and Apocalypsejoined the island nation in
peace and sat on the quietcouncil of Cracowa alongside
mutant leers like Professor Xand Magneto.
But with the Cracowen Age at theend of Marvel's X-Men relaunch
this summer, apocalypse willseek a successor in X-Men, heir

(08:31):
of Apocalypse.
In the Forer issue series fromwriters Steve Fox and artist
Nethodeaz, apocalypse willgather 12 mutants Armageddon
Girl, cable, cypher, emma Frost, exodus Forge, gorgon Mirage, mr
Sinister, penance Richter andWolverine's daughter, laura
Kinney for an epic turn oftrials to discover who is fit

(08:53):
enough to take its place.
You know, kind of like a mutantversion of the Hunger Games or
the Bachelor, I guess.
Steve Fox in a press releasequote the shadow of Apocalypse
has loomed large over not justthe Cracowen era, but a
substantial percentage ofmutant-focused storytelling
since its debut in 1986.
These past few years have shownso much new facets of En

(09:17):
Sabanur, and my Cracowen peersaren't done with him quite yet.
So it's both an immense honorand a ton of pressure to step up
to the slab for the air ofApocalypse, which charts a new
path for its legacy in the yearsto come.
I've been lucky to bend the earof past and future stewards of
this character to make surethese four issues are a
meaningful entry into theApocalypse canon, and I had

(09:40):
every ex-fans dream task ofselecting 12 mutants from across
the history of the franchisewho might be up for the titular
role.
Some are characters I'vealready had the privilege to
write, some are characters I'veenviously and some won't survive
the series.
But one will become the air ofApocalypse X-Men.
Air of Apocalypse number onewill be on sale June 5th from
Marvel Comics and will relaunchthe X-Men with new ongoing X

(10:06):
titles in July 2024.

is about the season finale.
So you know, if you want, youknow, let's face it folks If you

(13:12):
don't get the physical media, you know Disney can take this
off, you know, anytime they wantand just put the vaults forever
.
But if you have the physicalmedia you can watch this
whenever you want.
So don't plan on on thingsbeing there forever.
They won't, you know.

(13:34):
They only have so much space ontheir servers for this and if
it's not being watched they're alittle quietly.
Put it back into the you knowether, from whence it came, and
wait for you know the interestto be there again.
