On a foggy Saturday morning, December 14, 199, 16-year-old drill-team star Sarah Yarborough was found brutally murdered just steps from Decatur High School in Federal Way, Washington. The shocking event rocked the tight-knit Pacific Northwest community and baffled detectives for nearly three decades.
🧬 Fast-forward 28 years. Cutting-edge genetic genealogy linked crime-scene DNA to career offender Patrick Leon Nicholas, leading to his 2019 arrest and a long-overdue breakthrough for investigators and Sarah’s family.
⚖️ After an emotional trial, a King County jury found Nicholas guilty on May 10, 2023. Just two weeks later, he was sentenced to 45 years 8 months - virtually a life term - for the sexually motivated murder.
