In January 2001, 23-year-old University of Georgia law student Tara Louise Baker was tragically found murdered in her Athens apartment, which had been set on fire. For over two decades, the case remained unsolved, leaving her family and the community seeking justice. In May 2024, a significant breakthrough occurred when authorities arrested Athens man, Edrick Lamont Faust, charging him with Tara's murder. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation credited advancements in DNA technology for helping close the case.
