Independence Day in Hawaii
There are several ways to enjoy the holiday on the mainland, including with friends and family, or in the cool (and potentially rain-free) confines of an active volcano. Over at Haleakala National Park, tourists can enjoy a 4th of July picnic, cooking over a real fire and enjoying America's founding story as it unfolds. In all, 1,500 people a day will visit the summit between now and July 5th for a lunch feast, snorkeling, walking and astronomy. Many beachgoers will welcome the extended weekend that comes with the 4th of July, and many will heed the advice to stay safe while enjoying the festivities. Even though it's Hawaii, the possibility of a hurricane making landfall on the mainland this week means keeping a close eye on the ocean.
Conclusion
Though there are hundreds of 4th of July events happening around the state, Honolulu is home to some of the best celebrations in the country. Whether you're looking for a short hike or a three-day celebration, you're sure to find something for you. Happy Fourth of July!
