It's the series finale! I recorded this as the finale to the second series which was then postponed with Covid and that series became the online episodes, so better late than never, we have finally reached the end of the series and welcome the legend that is Phill Jupitus for this bumper episode. I only asked for 30 minutes of his time but he spoke about his first gig for over an hour and it was so good... and his second first gig....
This week on the pod, right before we were forced to shut down, I sat down with Kai Humphries just off the back of 2 years non stop on the road from Hawaii to South Africa... to an apartment in Dublin City as he discusses his first ever gig!

Hailing from a small town in Western Australia, Brodi made her name in the UK comedy scene and has performed all over the world from Just for Laughs, Edinburgh Fringe all the way to the Paddy Power Comedy Festival in Dublin where we recorded this interview, almost in the wrong hotel, I also tell the story of my club Cherry Comedy, so check that out while you enjoy Brodi Snook on My First Gig.

Ted Lasso's Roy Kent, aka Brett Goldstein joins the podcast this week to discuss his first ever gig. Recorded during his 2018 run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, recorded in a busy Pleasance Theatre - we've managed to restore the old files and make them sound crisp for your beautiful ears, so well done me for that. Well done Brett for becoming a global superstar in the time the files were lost, means a lot. Enjoy!

Recorded sometime in the late 1970's... or so it seems. Lauren Pattison joins the pod at long last as part of the thought-to-be gone but since recovered files. Recorded at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs late after a show, we discuss Lauren's start in comedy at a young age after watching Russell Howard live. She has since gone on to support Russell as well as picking up her second Edinburgh Fringe Award nomination, this time for Best Show ...
Recorded backstage at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin ahead of Paul's tour show changes mere weeks if not days before the world shut down for two years, we discussed his role in the decade long Hot Water Comedy Club, how to split being a touring comic and an MC and ask the question; is it better to perform your first ever gig in a sold out theatre? All this and more on My First Gig with Paul Smith!

Live from the VIP area (oh yeah, that's me) of the Paddy Power Comedy Festival in Dublin earlier this year, I sat down with New York's Mary Beth Barone the afternoon after we gigged together on a class bill to kick off the festival. We discuss alternative career paths, Edinburgh Fringe plans and the eventual first step on stage and more in this hilarious episode of My First Gig. Enjoy!

Recovered from the corrupt file crypt of 2020, my chat with the hilarious Rhys James has thankfully been salvaged and unleashed onto the world better late than never. We recorded this in May of 2020, beginning the chat talking about the pandemic, lockdown, cooking & podcasts, that outdated but fun chat has been removed to feature exclusively on Patreon but here on the free version we still breakdown the story of Rhys' first ever gi...
Sisters Rosie & Nicola, better known as Flo & Joan are one of the most exciting acts emerging in UK comedy over the past few years. Deadpan, surrealist, musical comedy that can't be beat. I sat down with them to discuss how their lives, no matter if separated by half of the planet would, even then, assist each other to get them on stage for their first gig. Hear the full story here. Recorded at a hotel in Dublin during the Paddy Po...
The wonderful Alison Spittle joins the podcast this week, I've known Alison for many years and she's always been so good to myself and Cherry Comedy, some of her early advice to me got me through a lot and in that inaugural year of Cherry, her stamp of approval really opened the doors to more comedians coming to try us out. I've watched her rise since then, but today we talk about the years prior and how she got her start. Her stor...
From his online hijinks, his panel show hilarity and his stand-up roots, Joe Lycett will go down as one of the best British comedians of our time. So successful at still a young age, he is nowhere near finished but listen to how he got started as he speaks to Duane about a forgettable 'first gig' lead to an important 'real' first gig. Recorded at Dublin's Vicar Street in June 2022.

My guest this week is Kate Willett, star of Netflix’s The Comedy Line-Up and Late Night with Stephen Colbert. Fantastic comedian from San Francisco based out of New York City. We get into her first gig and how a fortunate first gig could be the difference between a career and a one time thing.
