Sonia Nolan (00:07):
Welcome to season
three of My Warm Table. I'm so
delighted that you've joined usagain for more smart
conversations with heart arounda warm table of acceptance,
curiosity, and empathy. My nameis Sonia Nolan and this is my
podcast passion project, born ofthe desire to amplify the quiet
achievers amongst us. Yes, thoseWestern Australians who strive
(00:31):
every day to make ourcommunities better. I'm a firm
believer that there ispositivity, goodness and light
in our communities. We don'thear about them enough in our
mainstream media. So My WarmTable is my very small way of
adding a touch of positivity andhope to our media landscape. My
Warm Table translated intoItalian is Tavola Calda. These
(00:54):
were the words my papa used todescribe a table of good
friends, good food, and goodconversation. I always aim to
create a tavola calda in mylife. And I hope this podcast
encourages you to do so too.
Through the tavola calda, Iinvite community minded smart
and kind Western Australians tojoin the warm table for
(01:14):
conversations aimed at inspiringand building empathy in our
listeners by hearing diverseperspectives, and new ideas to
stimulate new thinking. Ifyou're new around the warm
table, welcome, there is lots tocatch up on. In Season One, we
featured 30, eclectic guests forsmart conversations with heart.
In season two, we invited 16Western Australians who are
(01:38):
fueled by their passion andpurpose to share their stories.
This season, which is our third,we are focusing on hope. The
world, its a crazy place rightnow. And I believe we all need
to channel the power of hopeinto our days. What is hope?
What does it mean for you? Doyou think it drives people
(02:00):
differently? And what situationsand life challenges have people
found themselves in that theydraw on hope, among many other
emotions and motivators? We'llbe exploring all these around
the warm table in season three.
Hope is a combination ofoptimism and a can do attitude.
It's the belief that your futurewill be better than the present
(02:22):
and importantly, that you havethe ability to make that happen.
It encourages us to focus ourthinking on the good things to
come and to trust that we canovercome adversity. The actual
act of being a human beingdepends on hope. And yes, we all
possess it, but sometimes itjust feels like it's
disappeared. And we need to bereminded in how to dig into it
(02:45):
so that it can motivate us toface life's challenges. Hope can
really be the difference betweengiving up and holding on. It's a
small word with a very bigimpact. Research tells us that
hope can positively impactmental health and strongly
predict overall well-being. Itcan improve our life
(03:05):
satisfaction, our spiritual wellbeing. And it even makes our
brains perform better so thatwe're more likely to make more
positive decisions. That'spretty powerful. So I hope
you'll join me and my guestsaround the warm table this
season, as we hear theirpowerful stories of hope and
what it means to them.
