Meet the Host: Certified Financial Planner, Jason Taylor

Ever wondered what happens when a third-generation accountant decides the financial planning industry isn't serving enough people? Meet Jason Taylor, the founder of MyPocketFP, who's on a mission to revolutionize how we access financial guidance.

After 25 years in the financial world, Jason noticed a troubling pattern: quality financial planning remained inaccessible to many Americans, particularly younger people and those without significant assets. Traditional models charging 1% of assets under management simply price out those who might need guidance the most. Drawing from his background in accounting and tax preparation, Jason created MyPocketFP to bridge this gap.

What makes MyPocketFP different is its focus on accessibility without sacrificing expertise. Unlike generic advice from Google searches or AI tools, MyPocketFP delivers personalized financial guidance at an affordable price point. Currently being beta-tested with existing clients, the platform has received positive feedback for its visual measurements and convenience. As Jason explains, "Young couples need an early start with financial help from professionals, not just AI and Google answers that aren't specific to their needs." While the initial setup requires some effort, ongoing use is streamlined and intuitive.

When he's not disrupting the financial planning industry, Jason embodies the Colorado lifestyle—hiking, biking, fishing, and cheering on his daughters at soccer fields and volleyball courts. His approach to business mirrors his approach to life: practical, straightforward, and focused on what truly matters.

Over the years you've grown aremarkable following.
However, some listeners may notbe familiar with your full
story, your full journey.
Let's take it from the top.
Could you share a littlebackground about your company

(01:14):
and what you do?

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yes, I've been in business now for 25 years.
I started out in the accountingand tax world.
I'm a third generationaccountant, tax preparer so over
the years I noticed that moreand more of our clients need
help with financial planning.
So I drifted into financialplanning and as I geared into

(01:38):
that, I noticed there's a lot ofsales oriented aspect to
financial planning that I didn'tenjoy.
So I moved to the fee onlyworld where we just charge fees
instead of selling products topeople.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
We know that marketing is the key to any
business's success.
How do you market my pocketfpcom now?

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Right now it's just used by current clients.
We're using them as kind oflike our beta test to see how it
works and how they like it, andso far they like the
measurements, they like thevisual of it and how it can fit
in their pocket.
They can see it whenever theywant.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
When you're not running your business, what do
you do for fun?

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Yeah, I'm usually out in the soccer fields or
volleyball courts with mydaughters hiking, biking,
fishing, all the Colorado stuffyou do.
Generally, I'm hanging out withfamily on my free time.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Well, jason, you're a very busy person.
I know that from experience.
In your own words, why are youdoing this?

Speaker 3 (02:40):
MyPocketFPcom this my pocket fpcom.
Yeah, the main reason we gotstarted with it is we found that
a lot of clients don't want todo the old 1% assets under
management model or they, youknow financial planners too
expensive for them for trying tofigure a way.
Uh, for, you know, youngcouples to get an early start
and have some kind of help froma financial professional and not

(03:02):
re, you know, rely on uh, aiand Google for their their
answers that aren't specifictowards their needs.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Right, and what is the?
How easy is it to use thisMyPocketFPcom?

Speaker 3 (03:16):
You know, as with everything, the setup is the
most difficult part, and so onceit's all set up and accurate,
we can get readings off it andgive people good advice for it.
So it's really just most of thelegwork's in the beginning, and
then there's small adjustmentson the personal side for their
growth after that.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
I love it.
Jason, we're going to catch youin the next episode, where
we're going to dive into some ofthe frequently asked questions.
