Have you ever woken up from a vivid experience that you clearly remember, unsure whether you had a lucid dream or an astral travel experience?

As someone who's been lucid dreaming since I was 4 years old and astral traveling for over 16 years, I'm sharing simple ways to tell the difference between these profound experiences.

In this episode you’ll learn four key tests that will help you identify exactly what type of experience you're having and understand why this distinction matters for your spiritual journey.

(00:00):
Lucid dreaming versusastral travel. You know,
sometimes it can be hard to distinguishbetween the two when you just woke up
and you had a very vivid experience,
you were in control of yourself, youwere maneuvering around in that reality.
You remember all the details, and youmay think, okay, I just had an OBE,
I just had an astral travel experience, when really it was just a very vivid,

(00:24):
lucid dream.
But then there may be times when youthink that you just had a very vivid,
lucid dream, but reallyyou came out of your body.
So how do you know the differencebetween the two? And does it even matter?
Well, yeah, because when itcomes to the dream world,
you could be in someone else's dream, dream walking, and not even know it.

(00:45):
That brings on a whole other thing, and I wanna talk about that as well,
because it's important to know whenyou're in your own world, your own dream,
and when you're in somebody else'sworld, someone else's dream,
because you can influencesomeone else unintentionally or
intentionally, which I do not recommend,
but it's important to know. Also, keep in mind,

(01:07):
you can come out of yourbody from a lucid dream,
so you can have an astral travelexperience that first started out as a
regular lucid dream, andthen you had the OBE.
Even for myself,
as someone who's been lucid dreamingsince I was four years old and then astral
traveling since I was 28, 29,which was 16, 17 years ago,

(01:28):
you'd think that I would always know thedifference immediately as I wake up or
come back into my body. And the truth is no,
because the lines can be very blurry,
all the various different mysticalexperience that you have, you know,
as human beings, we always are puttinglabels to them, but sometimes the labels,
it's like, okay, it doesn'tfit into that category.

(01:50):
It doesn't fit into that category. Sowhat, what just happened? What is this?
As time went on, as I got older,
it became more of a challenge todistinguish between my lucid dreams
and my astral travel experiences,
because my lucid dreams were so muchlike my astral travel experiences
that I'm like, what just happened? What was it? This was it that,

(02:14):
until I realized that there weretwo primary ways to know the
difference. So let's talk about it.
Welcome back to another episodeof the Mystical Recall Podcast
here at mysticalrecall.com.I'm Vernita Seahrey Sherman,

(02:34):
and I'm an interdimensional traveler andOBE mentor that works with individuals
having spontaneous out of body experienceswho wanna navigate those experiences
with comfort and ease. All right,
so let's get into the two primary waysto know the difference between lucid
dreaming and astral traveling.
And that first primary wayis how much control do you

(02:58):
have in that reality? Andthere are three parts to that,
so let me break that down. Allright, so the first thing is,
can you repeat the scenariothat just played out,
which brings me to one of the maindifferences between lucid dreaming and
astral traveling, and that iswhen you're having a lucid dream,
you simply are awarethat you are dreaming.

(03:21):
And so there's already a scenario that'splaying out just like any other dream,
but you know what's happeningand you can control yourself in
that scenario. So let's say you'replaying a video game, right?
And you're the, the game isthe way that it's going to be.
Like there is a scenario playing out,
but you have the remote control and youcan control what you as the player is

(03:46):
going to do. However,
what you can control is still based on the
actual plot that's, that'splaying out in that game.
That's lucid dreaming. Versus,
in an astral travel environment, thereis no scenario that's playing out.

(04:07):
It's just like this worldwhere I come out of my body and
I can just do what I wanna do.
I can create thingswith my mind. I can fly,
I can go through walls and ceilings anddo all these various different things,
but there's not an a,
a scenario that's already happening thatI just happen to be able to control.

(04:30):
No.
You are taking your astralbody or your etheric
body, or your energy body, your spiritbody, whatever you wanna call it,
and you, and what'shappening is it comes out,
or I don't wanna sayseparate, because you're,
it is never truly separatefrom your physical body. There's always a connection,

(04:53):
but that's what it feels like. Youcan feel it drift away sometimes.
Sometimes you don't feel it drift away.
But it is this transparentsee-through version of yourself
that leaves the physical body whenthe physical body is in a comatose
or a relaxed state,
it leaves it and it goes into the spiritrealm and do whatever you wanna do.

(05:18):
All right? There is no scenario to repeat,
it's just you're navigating theworld like you navigate this reality.
So getting back to the dreamworld and your lucid dream,
you are aware that you are dreaming. There's a scenario playing out.
You are the person, you areaware of what's happening. You can control yourself.

(05:42):
Can you repeat the thing thatjust happened? Can you repeat it?
Next time you have a lucid dream, oryou think you're having a lucid dream,
something plays out. Repeatthat thing. The, the, the,
the whole way in whichthe scenario play out,
use your mind to go back and repeat it.
If you can repeat a scenariothat is a lucid dream.

(06:06):
If you cannot repeat it,
because it doesn't there's not even ascenario that even is there to repeat,
you're having an as actual travelexperience or another type of OBE, right.
Now, that's not the only way. That'swhy what I'm sharing with you right now,
you wanna use all of these ways, like you,
like when you wake up or youcome back into your body,

(06:28):
these are the things you want to thinkabout. Does it check all these boxes?
So this is one thing. So it'snot like an absolute definite.
If it's like this, then it'sdefinitely this. If it's like that,
then it's definitely that. But as someonewho's been lucid dreaming a long time,
like I said,
there's a scenario that's playingout just like a regular old dream.

(06:50):
You go back and repeat it. There'sa lot of times when I'm like, oh,
that was fun. I wanna do thatagain, and I do it again,
and I try to do it again and again. You see what I'm saying? Like,
can you do that? That's one way to check.
If you can, if there isa scenario, lucid dream.
Now, number two, the second thing, when it comes to what you can control,

(07:13):
can you be another personin this reality? Now,
this is very important.
This is something that you can definitelytell whether you are lucid dreaming or
having an astral travel experience.Let's say you're in your dream,
you're lucid dreaming, you can repeatthe scenario, whatever just played out,
and now you wanna be the otherperson that's in the dream.

(07:35):
If there's somebodyelse, you wanna be them.
You want to experience from theirpoint of view and, and do the scenario,
do whatever from their perspective, likea role playing game and a, you know,
it is been years since I playedvideo games, but back in the day,
back in the 80's, I used to lovevideo games. 90's too. But anyway,
so can you be that other person?

(07:58):
With a lucid dream, youmost definitely can.
You can be anybody or anything.in an astral travel environment,
no you cannot because whoever is there, they're, they are whoever they are.
You can't go up in there and controlthem unless you're gonna force yourself
and, and try to be them like,
like truly try to force yourself. It's not gonna happen.

(08:20):
That's not what happensin that type of reality.
I'm not saying it can't happen, but that's usually not the case.
You can't just take your mind and you'relike, I'm that person. Boom. You know,
you have your astral body that isassociated with the physical body
in this reality,
and now you're just navigatingthe astral realm as the,

(08:43):
the astral realm body personthat you're navigating as
in that spirit world, okay?
But trying to be somebodyelse, no. In a dream,
absolutely. You can, okay,
I wanna be that person experience fromtheir perspective. You think about it,

(09:04):
you, you become them,
and then now you can do the scenarioover again if you want to or do whatever
from their perspective. Try it,
try it.
That's the second way when it comes tocontrol how much of the reality you can
control to tell whether you arelucid dreaming or astral traveling.

(09:25):
The third way to determine whether youare in a lucid dream or you're astral
traveling is,
can you go through walls andceilings easily? No problem.
Astral realm, absolutely.Lucid dream, sometimes,
sometimes you can, sometimes you can't.And you may have trouble doing that.

(09:47):
So in an astral plane it'sso much more fun, faster,
easier to just glide insteadof walk. You can do either one,
but to glide or fly throughsomething, an object,
a door, so much easier to do it that way,
instead of opening the door and goingthrough like that, like we do here.

(10:09):
In the dream world,
it's more of a challenge to gothrough the door in that type of way,
or go through a ceiling or gothrough a floor like you would in an
astral experience. I don't know why,
but it's more of a challenge to do so.And then sometimes when you're trying to
go like in through aceiling for an example,

(10:31):
you get up to the ceiling and 'causeyou may be thinking you're, you know,
astral traveling, you get to theceiling part and it's just, it's like,
you not, it's not going, you can'tgo. And it's like, well, what is it?
You know, why can't I go? You know,
you get up there or youwanna go through the, um,
a window to go outside, you get tothe window and it's like, you're not,

(10:56):
it's not, it's not happening. Now thatdoesn't all, that's not always the case.
Yes, you can do go through wallsand ceilings in, in a lucid dream.
I'm not saying you can't,
but I'm saying if you ever getinto a situation where you cannot,
then nine times outta 10, it,
it's not an astral travel experience.'cause you're not gonna have that trouble

(11:18):
in an astral realm most of the time.
These are not like rules ofthe the OBE game and the, um,
lucid dreaming game. Thisis not always the case.
I'm just saying that I've noticedwith my experiences that that's
usually the case. So thoseare things to look out for.

(11:39):
So again,
the primary way of determining whetheryou having a lucid dream or astral
travel,
those three things that I talked aboutwas part of how much you can control of
that reality. That's number one.Number two is whose world is it?
Okay? You need to findout whose world it is.

(12:00):
So the next time you're havingwhat you think is a lucid dream,
you simply ask someone that you seethere. It doesn't matter who it is,
ask them, whose worldis this? If it's yours,
they're gonna say yours.Try that. Now, of course,
you're not thinking about those typeof things while you're in the dream.
So this is an intentionthat you have to set of,

(12:22):
of the question that you're goingto ask before you go into the dream.
So when you're laying in bedat night, think to yourself,
I'm gonna ask the question, whose world is this?
Whether you think it's a luciddream or astral travel, whatever.
When you're lucid dreamingand you're in your own dream,
the people, the person, whoever isgoing to say yours. Try it. Just say,

(12:43):
whose world is this? They're gonna say yours.
You know you're lucid dreaming, becausewhen you're having an astral experience,
you're sharing that realm, that spirit realm, that world,
that astral world with a whole bunch ofother folks. Just like in this reality,
this isn't your world. This all of our world,

(13:04):
okay?So what's interesting is
when the answer is not yours, when they actually give you a a,
the name of a person, and I'm like, thefirst time it happened, and they, they,
they told me, I'm not gonna say theperson's name, but they said a name.
And I was like, shocked becauseI knew that it was a lucid dream.

(13:28):
And then I'm like, whose world isit? And they said the person's name.
It was like, what?
What I should have asked afterthat is, who is so-and-so?
'cause it's not somebody thatI personally knew, right?
So you also wanna getused to asking questions.
And this is something in general without of body experiences, lucid dreams,

(13:49):
any type of mystical type ofexperience, get used to asking,
get used to asking questions.
And as the scenarios playout with the lucid dream,
or the more you start havingmore experience with your out-of-body experiences,
especially as astral travel,
you'll get familiar with certain thingsand start understanding what type of
questions to ask,

(14:09):
right? This is something that Iwork with clients with as well.
But ask whose world itis, whose world is this?
And see what they say. Ifthey say someone else's name,
you may be dream walking. So let'stalk about that for a minute. Now,
dream walking is when you'rein someone else's dream,

(14:30):
and usually with a dreamwalking type of experience,
that's usually somethingthat a person purposely does.
It's a shamanic practice of going intosomeone else's dream where you can
control their mind and influencetheir mind through the dream world.
So usually this is done when someoneis having some type of psychological
issues, emotional issues or health issues.

(14:51):
And so the shamans would go into, dosome type of ritual and all of that,
and then go into the person's mindthrough a dream, through the dream world.
Literally walk into their dream that'sdream walking and do what they do
to influence them andassist in this reality.
Assist them in this reality. So then when they wake up,

(15:13):
they will start thinkingdifferently, feeling differently.
And it may not happen immediately,it may take several sessions,
but this is something thatpeople usually, um, it's,
it's willfully done. It's invoked. It's,it's something that you want to happen.
It's not something that isspontaneous, although it can be.

(15:35):
You can spontaneously endup in someone else's dream.
There are also people whodream walk and they're doing
some nefarious type of things. Sowhen it comes to dream walking,
integrity is key. Whensomeone dream walks,
you should have somebody's permissionto be all up in someone else's dream.

(15:56):
If you spontaneously end up in someoneelse's dream and you absolutely can
do not try to influence thatperson, please don't do that.
You have to have integrity with this.
You absolutely have tohave integrity with this.
It's not for us to go up in somebodyelse's mind and influence them

(16:16):
when we don't even have theirpermission to do so. All right?
So be in integrity with your abilities, even when it happens spontaneously.
Just please be in integrity with it. Now,
I do make a distinction between dreamwalking versus consciousness traveling
or consciousness shifting. Things thatI've talked about in other videos,

(16:36):
especially episode seven when I talkedabout the various types of OBEs.
Your consciousness enteringinto someone else's body
is different than dream walkingwhere you are influencing a person's
mind through goingthrough their dream. Now,
a dream walker will tellyou it's the same thing.

(16:59):
I personally make a distinctionbecause of two reasons.
The number one reason is this.
When you are in another versionof yourself in another reality
that is very different than you purposely
going into the consciousness of someonethat you know in this reality to

(17:23):
influence them in some way, shape or form,
even if they gave you permission. Those are two completely different things.
The other thing about dreamwalking is it is a dream.
So going into or enteringthe mind of someone else,
you're doing it through a dreamstate where you're very lucid versus
someone being in another dimensionon another plane, on another planet.

(17:47):
In another version of that planetis still another plane. Whether,
if you wanna call it plain world realm, whatever, I'm just gonna use plane.
It's another plane of existence. Andthat's another version of yourself.
And now. And so here'sthe thing, technically,
all of us are differentversions of each other,

(18:07):
and technically this is a dreamand everything is a dream.
The world that we live in right herein this reality is simply a mind
projection. So it is a dream.
So a shaman or someone who is a dreamwalker will say that all of that is a
dream, it's a dream. Consciousness traveland all that. It's a dream. So yes,
that's dream walking. Well,
so then to make the distinctionbetween dream walking,

(18:31):
consciousness shifting and so many othervarious different type of otherworldly
experiences or mystical experiencesor spiritual experience,
the difference is perspective.Okay? Perspective.
I personally think we use too many labelsin this reality. We're calling this,
that, this, this, this, this, this, this and this.

(18:51):
All these various different labels.
And it's like two people are talkingabout the same thing. They're arguing, no,
it's this, no, it's that and all,it's like this exact same thing,
except they're calling it differentthings based on the how they perceive
certain things to be. So for me,
consciousness shifting orconsciousness traveling,
you go into another version ofyourself, I'm calling that that.

(19:15):
I'm not calling it dream walking,
because I personally wanna make thedistinction between something that's
happening where you're in another versionof yourself versus purposely going
into the mind of someone through thedream state in order to influence them.
All right? So I just wanted to say that,
to make the distinction betweenthe two, and once again,
I'm gonna say this again, this isso important. If you dream walk,

(19:38):
whether you're doing it purposely oryou spontaneously end up in someone
else's dream, a friend of yoursor whatever the case may be,
please do not attempt to influencethem without their permission.
All right? And what I mean, permission,I mean their conscious permission. Now,
another thing I wanna point out is thedifference between going into someone
else's dream,

(19:59):
dream walking versus meeting upwith a person in the spirit realm.
And they may or may not know that they'rethere nine times outta 10 .
They, they don't even know.
So when you're in the spirit realm andyou are communicating with the soul of
another individual, and y'all arejust having this conversation,
you're going back andforth about this and that,

(20:20):
and you wanna influence that person tomake some changes in their life in this
reality,
that's cool. That's completelydifferent than going into the mind
of the individual, which is dream walking.
That's what you're doing andinfluencing them that way.
When you're in the spirit realm, communicating with another individual,
they met up with you for some reason.Even when they don't know, like I said,

(20:43):
nine times outta 10, the people thatyou know in your life and this reality,
if you meet up with themin the spirit realm,
they don't have a clue in thisreality that that even happened.
They don't even know.
But to influence them in that realm is
in integrity because thespirit or soul of them

(21:05):
met up with you for a reason.
That aspect of them choseto be there, you see,
versus you going into theirdream world in their mind.
And it's like they didn't ask youto come all up in their business,
all up in their mind, all up intheir space like that. You see?

(21:29):
When you are communicatingwith someone in the spirit
realm,
there's a higher aspect or moreexpanded aspect of themselves
that met up with you.
So having that conversation of someissues that you guys have here in this
reality and trying to getthem to understand some things and may wanna change

(21:51):
their ways or whatever thecase may be, that's cool.
But when you're in the dreamworld and they don't even know,
like in this reality thatyou are all up in their mind,
that's a whole other ballgame. It's a whole other thing.
That's why I say be inintegrity with it. Look,

(22:13):
I know I'm repeating myself and I'mtalking about the integrity piece for a
reason. I do not dream walkpurposely for a reason,
and I do not allow myself to beall up in someone else's mind
spontaneously and stay there. You see what I'm saying?
If I dream walk spontaneously,
I'm getting up outta there and waking upfrom the dream. And the reason is this,

(22:39):
I know of people and I'vemet them who use certain ways
of getting into people's minds.
They use their abilities toget in people's minds and to, to influence people.
And the people don't evenknow that that's happening.
There's no integrity in that.I have a big issue with that.
There's people that use sacredgeometry, sound frequencies,

(23:00):
different types of rituals, different types of, uh, psychedelic,
um,
substances and things to getinto someone else's head.
People think that they're going to ashaman or somebody who can give them
whatever it is, whetherit's uh, like I said,
sacred geometry, some symbols, they're,

(23:21):
they're looking at or some soundfrequencies to get into the,
the theta or the alpha state. Some, um,
rituals or some things todo or, or psychedelics.
'cause they wanna have an out-of-bodyexperience or have some type of lucid
dream or whatever it is that theywanna do and have that's mystical.
They wanna get into it. Sothey go to these people,

(23:42):
but you have to do your due diligence.I've said this in another episode,
I'm gonna say, say it again.
You gotta know who you're dealingwith because a lot of people will take
advantage of you and they willgive you these tools and things,
which creates a bridgefor them to literal,
literally walk or glide or enter into

(24:02):
your mind to influence youin ways that you did not give
them permission to do. This happens,
I've met these people and it's, it's,
I'm not naming names, I'mnot even gonna go there,
but I'm just saying I'm not about that.I am not about that at all.

(24:24):
One of the reasons why I do notteach people who have never had
an out-of-body experience before howto have an out-of-body experience is
because there is a lotof, um, you have to,
there's certain so many things that peopledon't know that they're getting into
that they think it's just gonna be, oh,

(24:45):
it's gonna be fun and it's gonnabe this and it's gonna be that,
but their psyche is not ready for it.
And so there's a responsibilitythat the teacher has to make sure
that it's safe and it's a nurturingenvironment for that other individual.
I'm not gonna take on theresponsibility of someone losing it

(25:05):
and having some type of mentalhealth breakdown because
they weren't ready for the experience. You see? Not everybody's ready,
ready, they think they are,
but I only work with people who havealready had the experience or they were on
the brink of it already,
such as when they've had the sleepparalysis state or something else that's

(25:27):
telling me that, okay, they're ready. And I,
those people,
I don't mind givingthem tips and tools and
practical exercises to go ahead and
have that out of body experienceif it's not something that is,
is happening for them often enoughthat they want to happen more often.

(25:50):
But the person that has never,
ever had the experience and they wannahave it so bad and they wanna do this and
they wanna do that,
I'm not going to to teach themhow to have it because I know
that there's certain thingsthat they are not yet ready for.
We have been taught in this reality thatthings are a certain way and it's like

(26:13):
it is not what you think. And also when you have OBEs,
when you astral travel,
it's not always going to be the mostpleasant of experience depending
on how you treat your body. I'm notgonna get into all of that in this,
this episode, but again,I've said this before,
I'm gonna say it again. For every positive, there's a negative.

(26:36):
For every negative, there's apositive, there's dark, there's light,
there's all these opposites of something.
It's not always that you're goingto experience the high vibrational
or all one loving rainbows, butterflies type of experience.
You may run into someentities that do not like you,

(26:56):
some very low vibrational entities andyou know how you need to know how to deal
with them. All right?
And for somebody who has neverhad an OBE before and they just
wanna have it so bad, I don't, I don'tcare. I'm gonna do the micro doses.
I'm going to, uh, listen tothese, these, um, beats and,
and all of these various things.I'm gonna look at the symbols. I'm,

(27:17):
whatever it is that they wanna do toinvoke it, the rituals or whatever.
They may have the shock of theirlife. That may not be, you know,
they could have a mentalbreakdown, they could have a a,
an emotional breakdown. They could lose it psychologically.
They can go into a psychosis and I'mnot gonna be responsible for that.
So the way I approach it isthat when a person is ready,

(27:40):
the more expanded version of themselfis going to allow for it to happen.
It's gonna organicallyhappen. It'll be spontaneous.
That's the way that I look at itwhen they are truly ready. Now,
there are versions of yourself thatmay lead you to do some microdosing,
lead you to do some type of ritual, some type of meditative practice.
Whatever it is to induce or toinvoke the OBE or the astral travel

(28:05):
experience or whatever type ofexperience that you wanna have,
you may be led to dothat. Okay, cool. However,
there's the other side. 'cause there'sdifferent ways to get to a certain place.
There's different paths that you can take,
different roads you can take to dosomething to get somewhere, right?
I work with the people whoare on the road where things

(28:30):
they organically happen, okay?
I know that everyone has theability to shift their reality
and to do different things,
whether you wanna call itmiraculous or mystical,
spiritual things bytapping into their essence.
And you can tap intoyour essence naturally.

(28:52):
It's nothing that you haveto do externally in order to make it and force it to
happen. Yeah, you can.
But when you allow for thingsto organically take place,
then you'll be prepared for each stageand each level of the the experience.
So I help guide peoplethrough those levels,

(29:13):
the ones who first have already
had an experience or were on thebrink of having the experience.
If you are ready to be guidedthrough those steps when it comes to
out of body experiences, go to

(29:34):
meetwithvernita.com. Let'shave a conversation and see if it makes sense for us
to move forward together. Also,
if you have not checkedout The Mystical View,
the primer book that I created,
please go to themysticalview.comand you can read it,
you can listen to it. 'causethere's an audio version,

(29:56):
and check that out so you canunderstand your multidimensional nature.
If you are the type of person thatfeels like you have to do some external
things to trigger this and triggerthat and all these other things.
Or if you are the personwho you are already having certain types of experiences
and it's happening spontaneously andyou've got that fear and that anxiety,
the first step is knowing more aboutyour multidimensional nature and

(30:19):
understanding your essence and where youcame from, not just as a human being,
but as a spirit, as a consciousness. So check that book out.
It is free. It doesn't cost you adime. When you go to the website,
you don't even have to enter in yourname or email address or any of that.
I took all that stuff down.
I just want people to just get theinformation as quick as possible without

(30:42):
jumping through any type of hoops.Get the information. All right,
so to quickly recap,
if you wanna know the difference betweenlucid dreaming and astral traveling,
if you had a very vivid experienceand you don't know, well,
which one did I just have? Remember,
the two primary ways ofdistinguishing between the two.
Number one is how much controlyou have in that reality.

(31:04):
And number two is knowing whose worldit is by asking. And number one,
again, has three parts.
Are you able to repeatthe scenario? That's
number one. Or you can call it oneA. Let's call it one A, alright.
One B, can you be the otherperson in the scenario?

(31:28):
Whoever else is in there,
the room with you or whateveris playing out The other people.
Can you be that otherperson or not? One B.
And one C, can you easily gothrough walls and ceilings?
Which you may have some troublesometimes when it comes to a lucid dream,
whereas in an astralrealm, no problem. Again,

(31:52):
that's not always thecase. It's not a hard rule,
but it's something to bemindful of because it can help you distinguish between
the two.
So those are the ways to determinewhether you're having an astral travel
experience or you're luciddreaming. And with that said,
I will see you on the next episode, episode nine. So look out for that.
