Venture Capital é uma das formas de investimento focada em negócios ou empresas emergentes, mas que normalmente apresentam grande potencial de crescimento.
Nestes casos, o investidor vai procurar empresas com um pequeno porte de faturamento e, inclusive, alguns fundos já investem em empresas em estágio pré-operacional. Nessa modalidade o investidor se torna um cotista, injetando um capital em troca de uma fatia societária. Além deste capital injetado, é priorizado também o investimento em valor agregado, não somente financeiro. É daí que surge o termo smart-money, ou seja, não é apenas um injeção financeira, mas sim uma combinação de capital e auxílio na estratégia e gestão.
