SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
Hi, I'm Milani.
I'm black, female, andneurodivergent, aka I lost the
genetic lottery.
The only thing I could do waspull myself up by my bootstraps
and live whatever life takes me.
If anyone deserves to profitfrom my trauma, it's me.

(00:21):
That's the life of a neuro-spicyblack girl.
Hey y'all, welcome back to NeuroSpicy Black Girl.
It's me, Alani, your resident, tired, overwhelmed, but still

(00:45):
very much here, Neuro SpicyBlack Girl.
So, today is gonna be a shorter, more chill episode, like the
title suggests, just someupdates on me, the pod, life,
and all the messy stuff inbetween.
So, shoutout to the four peoplethat are still listening! First

(01:06):
off, things have been busy.
Like, not in the, oh, I'm bookedand blessed, look at me thriving
kind of way.
More like, I accidentally tookon a little bit of a bigger role
in my video editing job, and nowmy brain is mushed by 4pm.
Don't get me wrong, I'mgrateful.
I'm learning a lot, doing morecreative stuff, which is nice,

(01:29):
but it definitely means myexecutive dysfunction is on 10%.
The amount of times I've staredat my to-do list lately, closed
the tab, and then opened itagain like it was gonna
magically change.
Yeah.
And that ties into the nextupdate.
As you may have noticed, I kindafell off with social media

(01:52):
marketing for the podcast.
It's not that I don't care.
I do.
I want this community to grow, Iwant more neurodivergent black
folks, more people who just getit to find this space.
But man, when the viewership islow, or there's not much
engagement, and it's alreadyhard for me to muster the energy

(02:16):
to post, it's a recipe forabsolutely doing nothing.
I'm like, why am I gonna burn mylast spoon today making a cute
reel when 12 people see it andnobody comments?
I don't know, that's kind ofgrim, but it's real.
And on top of that, I'm doingall of this by myself.

(02:40):
I'm recording, I'm editing, I'mposting, I'm writing, I'm
promoting, plus...
I'm living my regular life whereI have to, you know, survive in
this hellscape of a country.
If you are not in the U.S.,yeah, you are probably laughing

(03:02):
at us, which I'm blaming.
But yeah, back to the podcast.
My spoons have been running reallow.
But it's not all bad news.
I am trying to take care ofmyself.
It's not easy.
The U.S.
feels like it's constantly onfire, both literally and

(03:24):
metaphorically.
The news cycle is brutal.
The economy's brutal.
Personal life can't be brutal.
Emotionally, financially,mentally, it's a lot.
So, some days I just let myselfrest.
No push-it, productivity, noguilt, just exists.

(03:48):
And I want to say to the four orfive of y'all who are still
listening every time I drop anepisode, thank you.
Seriously.
It means more than you know.
Sometimes it feels like I'm justtalking to the void, but then I
see that little download numbergo up by five, and I'm like,
okay, cool.
People are still here.

(04:08):
Hopefully things will get bettersoon.
Or at least stabilize enoughthat I can keep pouring into
this little corner of theinternet without burning out
completely.
Because I will still berecording episodes.
Even if it's slower.
Even if it's more whenever I canversus on a set schedule.

(04:29):
This space matters to me.
Y'all matter to me.
I started this because I didn'tsee enough spaces that could buy
being neurodivergent, black, maybe queer, maybe a little
weird.
Maybe a little socially awkward.
All of it.
And I still want that.
So yeah, that's pretty much it.

(04:51):
Just wanted to give a littlehonest update.
Because if I can't be real here, then what's the point?
I'll probably be back soon witha new topic.
Maybe something fun.
Maybe another rant.
Who knows?
In the meantime, take care ofyourself.
Rest.
Eat something good, watchsomething silly, or just stare

(05:13):
at the ceiling for 20 minutes.
No judgment.
That's self-care too.
Remember, it's okay to be human.
Do what's best for you.
Again, links to support me arein the description.
Alright, love y'all.
Talk soon.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
