This week is an extension of the podcast that I published mid-week, right after the election. In that episode, I mentioned that one of the most important things President Trump can do for this country is to unify this country. There are any number of ways to do this, but I think a Moonshot would be a foolproof way to do it.

(00:00):
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. Thank you very much. Hello, my name is Keith

(00:15):
Tede, the host of New Media Central Podcast. It's a weekly podcast. This week I'm talking
about a moonshot. Actually, this is a continuation of the extra one I did in the middle of the
week right after the election. I talk about some stuff and I talk about what we need to

(00:35):
unify this country. And if you think back, the most unified this country ever was when we were
going to the moon, the moonshot. President Kennedy in 1961 said, we're going to land on the moon
and safely bring them back home by the end of the decade. And we did it. And it took 10 years,
eight years, and we were unified. Everybody was behind it. The whole world was actually, I mean,

(00:57):
it was one of the most watched things ever on television at that time. But this week, I'm just
talking about how we need to have something like that. We've elected Trump as the president,
and we've got the Senate. We're most likely going to have the House. We have a mandate. We have the
popular vote. We've got everything we need to implement all the things that he wants to do.
But to me, the highest priorities is getting everybody in this country on the same page. We

(01:23):
had to do that. Otherwise, we're going to split ourselves apart. Doesn't matter who's in office.
So my theory is, anything would do. Anything that would actually unify this country would do. But
I have an idea. What would be a good one is artificial intelligence, AI. If we put the energy
and effort into making AI a great thing for this country and the world that we put into the moonshot

(01:49):
in the 60s, we would have it all. We would have everything. This, I mean, the whole world would
transform into a super cool place that everybody on this planet could live free and comfortably.
I know it sounds crazy, and it's just the first step in a long road to getting to that Utopia.
It is the first step. We have to do it. We have to find something to unite this nation so that

(02:13):
we can unite the world, and there won't be any wars in Ukraine. That's what I'm talking about
this week. Hope you enjoy it. Thank you. President Kennedy wants to ask Americans to go to the moon,
not because it's easy, but because it's hard. This moonshot was a call to action,

(02:36):
challenging what we could achieve when driven by creativity and purpose to change the world.
In 1961, President Kennedy launched the US space program, urging the nation to take a leadership
role in space and land a man on the moon before the decade ended. The Soviet Union,
America's Cold War rival, had taken a lead in space achievements, including the launch of Sputnik,

(02:57):
the first man-made satellite, and sending the first humans into space. These feats celebrated as
triumphs of communism struck fear into the hearts of many Americans. Kennedy was convinced that,
with the commitment of a free people, America could be the first to reach the moon. In 1961,
he appealed to our sense of adventure, patriotic pride, and commitment to freedom. America responded

(03:21):
with one of the largest mobilizations of resources in manpower and its history. Eight years later,
until July 20, 1969, two American astronauts walked on the moon, a monumental achievement that boosted
American confidence and prestige worldwide. Kennedy's vision harnessed America's energy
towards ambitious goal of sending a man to the moon and returning him safely to Earth. It required

(03:45):
the best of our science and technology, and an inspired unity and purpose. Today, we need a new
moonshot, something to unify our country, which feels like increasingly it's divided, with some
even speculating about a potential civil war. Much of this division fueled by the media, yet it's
clear that we need a common purpose to bring Americans together. In my view, it's artificial

(04:08):
intelligence, AI. That could be the purpose. AI is advancing rapidly and because of promises to
reshape humanity's future, we must guide it in a direction that benefits us all. Predictions vary,
and since AI is complex and not fully understood, its trajectory remains uncertain. The US has the
talent to be the center of this transformation, and we must lead if we want to maintain our position

(04:32):
as a global superpower. In my previous podcast titled Perfect World and Abundant Future, I discuss
how AI could lift humanity in profound ways, worth our nation's brain power. We can ensure that AI
evolves positively. We're already seeing AI as potential in tools like chat, GPT, which can help
with tasks like homework, you know, translations, and creative ideas. I've experimented with it

(04:57):
extensively, even considering if AI could enhance my podcast scripts. And it has. This raises an
essential question in this early stage of AI. How much better could our work be if machines assist
in creating it? This is why I believe AI should be our next moonshot. Every detail of this technology
needs to be scrutinized and achieving this goal would require an effort greater than even going

(05:20):
to the moon. I was a young child when we landed on the moon, and I remember the way it united our
nation with a shared sense of purpose. If we could approach AI with the same enthusiasm, we could
regain that feeling of togetherness. That unity brought a powerful sense of accomplishment. We
felt as a nation that we could achieve anything we set our minds to. By contrast, today's hot button

(05:42):
issues, you know, like gender fluidity, government expansion, border policies, and debates over
parental rights, they often serve to divide us. AI, on the other hand, impacts everyone and focusing
on its potential could lift us to new levels of community and camaraderie. Our nation has been
drifting towards disunity for a long time. We've grown complacent and we need a challenge to wake

(06:04):
us up, you know, to refocus and make this the best place in the world to live. AI could be that
challenge and it will require a shared sense of urgency, but I fear that we will have to go deeper
into the woods before we can see that vital importance. When life is easy, people don't want
to change. Why would we want to when most of us have enough food, clothing, and creature comforts
to keep us relatively comfortable and happy? We're in a unique position now. With Donald Trump

(06:28):
in the White House, the Senate majority, and possibly control of the House, we have a chance to
address critical issues like AI. While Trump's leadership divides opinions, his popularity
suggests a strong base of support. He won the popular vote. I mean, if we can find a path forward,
we might rediscover what it means to be the United States of America and also create the United

(06:51):
People of America. This will require compromise. It will take understanding, but I believe that
with the right vision and commitment, we can harness AI as a unifying force, setting a course
for a brighter future.
