Speaker 1 (00:02):
Now what's next? Stop the next step? To take the
next step, next time?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Stop next, next time? Ye wants to be next? This
is next up with Stan Northfleet and Chris Gordy. Let's
see what's next.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Feeling good, feeling great on a Monday, I switched things
up normally say that on Friday. Welcome into an overreaction, underreaction,
proper reaction. Monday, Week eight in the NFL. I will
conclude tonight with Monday Night Football. We'll get to that mare.
If you're new to the station, new to the show,
or listen to Gordon and I each and every weekday,
(00:45):
we appreciate you doing so. Welcome in the next up
for the next two hours, loudmouthed me. Stand Sportsman is
what I go by on social stand. Northfleet is the
birth name on the limb. That's my partner, Chris Gordon.
He's in his usual perch, Trey Walker Pinch hitting for
Connor de McGovern, who's somewhere doing something. We appreciate Trey
rocking out with his phone number is still the same
(01:06):
regardless of the person else seven one three two one
two five seven ninety is we take a lot of
calls on Monday around here as we react to what
we saw a little bit under twenty four hours ago
over at NRG, this time where the Texans emerged victorious
over the hated divisional rivals Indianapolis Coacht twenty three to twenty.
You all know that by now. What you don't know
(01:27):
is how Gordy and I feel about that. We'll also
take a look around the rest of the league. What
do we see on the TV in here? There's Gordy's
Bayou Bengal, there's Jaydon Daniels and he had an improbable
last second hill Mary resulted in the victory for the Commanders.
Just an example of the types of things we saw
in week eight a week eighteen. In Week eight, what
(01:51):
was it National Tight Ends Day and Kilder was doing
George Kittle type things Gordy last night, embarrassing my cowboys.
They made a comeback, though, at least my inner cowboys
made a comeback. But they've got their own problems there
in DFW. Also speaking the problems Saturday and College Station,
g Man, I need you to tell me what the
hell was going on?
Speaker 1 (02:10):
And Gray first Style, Oh, they played.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Four quarters in this game, Gordon, we gotta talk about
what happened in college football as well, and wherever else
you guys want to get into Rockets in action there
now one and two on the season. I think I
saw they were sitting in the eleventh place spot in
the West. Rockets resume tonight and San Antonio Victor Wimbin
Yama and Dylan Brooks getting into a dust up. Saw
(02:35):
some pop up on on social in that regard, but
primarily football today. That's why we start here, Gordon. We
awakened to the Houston Texans still comfortably sitting in the
second place.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Spot overall in the AFC.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Kansas City remains undefeated, and we take care of the
Coats just a little here street here on the Colts.
As I pull up my notes, the Texans have now
beaten the Colts in five out of the last six games,
and owning the head to head tie breaker. We knew
that the Texans sweep the twenty twenty four season series
(03:13):
for just the second time in franchise history, gord to
previously twenty sixteen, the third consecutive time, whether it be
here or in their place, we've beaten their Colts. I
want to get to something else. We'll get to that later,
So overall, Gord, I've been talking for a while. I
want to get you in on here. You pleased with
(03:33):
what you saw, left something to be desired. How did
yesterday is game make you feel? A mini reaction? Is
what's the most important thing each week is get a win?
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Right? This is true.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
It's survived advance, get a win. You don't get style
points in the NFL. It's just either you want or
your lost. And so it's a good win. You can
prove to six and two, you're a perfect four and
oh at home that's what matters most. But now we
can be credit goal. And now we could say and
this is this is where I come to stan. This
(04:04):
is this is my this is my ultimate takeaway in
the twenty twenty four Texans? Are you scaring anybody? Is
anyone afraid to play you? Six and two is awesome?
But your four home wins have been by six points,
four points, three points, three points and again Buffalo. Yeah
that each week that win looks better and better. But
the other ones, I mean, you know, can we chalk
(04:27):
it up too? Well?
Speaker 1 (04:27):
It's a it's a divisional game.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
And the cole sit just always play you tough, and
it's hard to sweep a divisional opponent. So you take
it for what it is and you're two and zero
against them. But I just look at the rest of
the league and say, Buffalo, Kansas City, any of these
other teams at the top of the AFC. Are any
of them going to be scared to come in here
in a playoff game? Is anyone scared to face the text?
Speaker 3 (04:51):
So allow me to say, I understand what you mean
for the context of conversation. Right, NFL teams aren't afraid
literally of playing the game. Can you get uncomfortable? Can't
get some anxiety? Yeah, that's real, I think. Okay, So
let me tell you if a playoff game, if this
Jets game coming up on Thursday night, short week for
(05:12):
the Texans.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
If the Jets game on Thursday night, we're.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
A playoff game and Jets were coming to NRG, let's
just do that scene said not the case here, regular
season Texans getting on the plane going to met Life. However,
I think this would be pointed out by Olbrick Yulebrick,
how do you pronounce his name? He's the interim head
coach for the Jets since they fired Robert Sala. I
(05:37):
think he would tell his team this, The Texans are
now five and one in one possession games in twenty
twenty four. I believe that it's something like twelve and
four in games decided by seven points or fewer in
the Domico cj era.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
I believe Olbrick.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Would tell his team the Texans are also undefeated in
the conference. And if you cut on the tape of
the last time they played a postseason game at NRG,
they kicked the Bejesus out of the Cleveland Browns a
good defense, no Nick Chubb option design. Watson was out,
but a very hot Joe Flacco was in. So I
(06:16):
think if you add that part up, you go all
right now from a twenty twenty four standpoint. First off,
f I do that, I don't want to dismiss that.
You buying that when you hear me lay it out
that way. Does that change how you think other teams
would perceive playing the Texans.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
No, I think they look at it and say that
team is right for the picking. They got offensive as Buffalo, yeah,
barely to me, barely. They beat Buffalo and they just
be if they played a Buffalo again this week, would
you feel confident in them beating them.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Again, Do I have Steph Diggs or do I not?
Because I have Digs and.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
You don't have Stefan Diggs and Buffalo has Samari Cooper.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
No, I'm asking, do I have Steph Diggs in the game? No?
I Well, the vibes are sounds like Stefan Diggs is
gonna be done.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
I would presume that stuff is not gonna play on Thursday.
And I'm holding my breath saying my prayers in terms
of what happens from that. So like, yes, we're gonna
have to have a conversation later in this show and
in the week about what you do with that. For
me specifically, speaking to the game yesterday, it went about
like I thought it would. I don't know if you
(07:20):
saw my tweet before the game going it we ran
out of time on Friday. I said Texans would win.
I thought what I say. I said, twenty four to
twenty Texans. I was one point all Texans do win.
That's not back to back weeks. I was one point
off from having the exact score. I'm getting good at
this thing. God, what is the reason the Texans won
the game yesterday? It's real simple. The guy that wears
(07:43):
twenty eight in blue, Trey, let me get ready to
hear from Joe Mixon, the guy wearing twenty eight in
blue yesterday. As I told you right here in this studio,
g Man, when we signed him, I said that dude,
right there, by the time we get to the end
of the year, as good as single Terry was for
us a year ago, there is a stark difference in
(08:04):
what Joe Mixon does and a guy like Devins Singretary
Singletary gave us the very best he had he had
a career year. Joe Mixon is a badass. He's a
difference maker. He's one of the top ten backs in
the league. And I told Joe by the time we
got to the end of the season, he was going
to be the most valuable piece. Or let me phrase that.
(08:27):
I said, he's the most valuable piece right now. CJ
is the best player. Joe's the heartbeat, Joe's the soul
of this team, especially from an offensive standpoint. Every game
he has started and finished for the Texans has been
one hundred yards and they've won three of those four.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Joe Mixon is a badass quarter he is, but he
almost also cost you the game whether it was the
pitch player. I'll gold and take that. I'll go ahead
and take that one out of out of the playbook.
We was at CJ's fault on the pitcher. Was that
Joe's fault on rangler goes to the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
It's the quarterback's responsibility to get the ball to the
bat man.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Well, tell me your heart went in your throat a
second when they run that thing back.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
And so, so I had family in town. I leave,
I'm I'm in the elevator going down to the one
hundred level from the press box.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
And I'm hearing this play, but I can't see the play.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
So when I get down to the bottom of the elevator,
I'm looking at the screens and of course it's under
review and they say down by contact. And once I
saw the play, I was like, oh, he's down. It's
not that hard. But yes, my heart was in my
proverbial throat at that time. So you're saying, I say,
Joe Mix is a badass, and you say he almost
cast his I was just I was just bringing that up.
(09:42):
That that was I mean, it wasn't all sunshiny roses.
I was a scary moment there that could have cast
you the game. You're up three with three minutes to go,
and the Colts pick up that fumble, and then all right,
so let's play it rumbling it, rumbling it back. Let's
play out a daying bowl. I can't remember right now
who the player was that ran it back. Fine, suppose
he scores. Suppose it stands.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
That still c J.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Stroud and this offense at home with a ball at
a round of two minute one and to come back down.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Yeah, I would have still had confidence that the Texans
will win that game.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
Sure, but but again I'm just it's just bringing up
that that thing was too close for comfort. Yes, sry,
but no, it's been Nixon's been awesome. As a fantasy
owner of Joe Mixon, he's been incredible.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Twenty five one oh two four point one yards per
a and a rushing to it and then four catches
for thirty two as well.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
I mean, it's he's he's.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Been everything you want and nothing against CJ.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Stroud, but he has been to this points then.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Begins, he is your MVP other than nicoos Out, but yes,
other than Nico right now, and I agree, Joe Mixon
he's your MVP. I like how you said that. Let's
step aside, let's open up these phone lines. Man, do
you think that's an overreaction. It's possible that it is
an underreaction. What Joe Mixon means to this team. We
gotta talk about some defensive Uh. Some guys have stepped up,
(11:03):
some defensive awards, is what I'm trying to get out.
And we'll take some phone calls. I see John on
the northwest side wants to get in. Gotta talk about
this defense, must talk about CJ. And there's a guy that,
rightfully so, is getting maligned and he's on that offensive line.
Gotta have all those conversations on the other side getting
warmed up on a Monday, The legendaryt KB and me.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Next Up continues on your phone.
Speaker 5 (11:28):
Listen to Sports Talk seven ninety on any device with
our free iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Here you guys again, mixtion. Here's this shuttre touchdown. What
a run by Nixon.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Appreciate the CBS's crew.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
My man Joe Mixon getting in the end zone there,
tying things up at ten ten. Joe Mixon, what do
you have? One hundred and two yards? The seventh best
performance by running back from a yardage standpoint that we
saw on Sunday, also including Thursday night. Again, we'll see
what happens tonight. I think the New York Giants are
(12:11):
at the Pittsburgh Steelers as we get ready to wrap
up Week eight to start week nine, we'll get Texans
at Gotham City's New York Jets, even though they have
a bat cave in New Jersey. Welcome back in the
next stup overreaction, underreaction, proper reaction Monday. Joe Mixon is
a badass and just quite frankly, And I ask it
(12:34):
this way a lot of times, your value to an
organization or an operation or relationship is what happens when
you aren't there in absence of Nicocollins. You take Joe
Mixing off the field yesterday and the Texans don't win.
Hell to your point, Gordon, if Anthony Richardson, this is
withstanding the pitch by CJ and the fumble by Mixing
(12:57):
all that. But if Anthony Richardson, there are there are
twenty other quarterbacks in this league that if they play
yesterday and make about three throws, the Texans lose. Anthony
Richardson throwing the football cost the Coast the game yesterday.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
But he still continues to hit these deep pass plays
on you. He doesn't do it on anybody else. He
does it on the Texans. And I tweeted this out
yesterday at one point, what are you finished? He finished
with with the one passing touchdown.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Sixty nine yards?
Speaker 4 (13:24):
Is just that Anthony Richardson has scored six touchdowns in
his career in his young career against the Texans. He
has six against the rest of the league. I mean,
for some reason, he plays well against you and nobody
else well.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
So I look at it in context.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Week one in their building, there's lasted out there, rookie
Bullock out there, rookie miscommunication, Jimmy Ward and Derek Stingley.
In Week one, nonetheless, they had three plays of fifty
yards or more. I tweeted you during the game, I said,
there's no chance in hell they're going to allow another explosive.
And I'll be damn if they don't do a rub route,
(14:00):
which I thought could have been a penalty. And there's
think it was Petrie that got picked, and there it
is Josh down sixty nine yards.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Tuddy.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Now I'm not telling you that Anthony Richardson isn't a
prospect that has some upside, But they've asked him at
times when he's not checking out of plays. We'll talk
about that too. Anthony Richardson when he has to throw
the football, now, who is this he threw the ball to?
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Was that Josh Downs?
Speaker 6 (14:27):
Again?
Speaker 1 (14:27):
What would have been a touchdown?
Speaker 3 (14:29):
And he felt that they had to review it and
it was down on the one yard line or the
half foot yard line?
Speaker 1 (14:34):
That was a BB.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
He makes these real throws, but then the majority of
the time is just it's all over the place. Is
he radic? He's playing hero ball sometime? I don't mean
he's a selfish player. I mean like he thinks he
can do the whole thing himself. The interception of Jayalen
Petree might as well get in too it now, Gordon,
he checks out of the play. Shane Stiken calls a run.
(14:58):
We're backed up. Let's just go into the half. We
get the ball if you're the coach. To start the
third quarter, Anthony Richardson checks into some all hitches route
and he throws a pick the Petri We know two
plays later, Tank Dale, you get in the end zone.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
It was just not a heady football play.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Yeah, I think it's it's I mean, Shane stike In
is a pretty good offensive mind. Jim Bob Cooter, it's
been around a long time, with like fifteen sixteen years.
He's the OC. But I almost wonder who's that quarterbacks coach,
Like I'd like him to have somebody that could work
one on one with him. Again, this is just talking
if I'm a Colts fan, somebody that can coach him
(15:38):
and develop him more, because I feel like he's not
getting coached well enough.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
Anthony Richardson claims quote to be a great passer end quote,
as if he hadn't only completed ten to thirty two passes,
including just two completions in the first half.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
At some point in.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
The third quarter, I looked at him, excellok in the
press box, I said, wait, did the coach just get
their first first down of the game. They were one
in ten on third down, and I was like, wait,
I should say third down conversion?
Speaker 4 (16:12):
I said, watch, that can't be He said, ah, it'sh real,
My god. They could honestly use a Jerard Johnson type there.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
I don't know who the quarterback coach is, but I
know if you got a dude checking out of plays,
I mean, that's just absurd. Ten for thirty two, sack
five times a passer rating of forty eight point three.
We'll talk more about Anthony Richardson, but the SoundBite was
from Joe Mixon, the rushing touchdown that made it ten
to ten. Joe Mixon, You're badass, my boy? How do
you do it? Behind this offensive line? Who we must
(16:40):
talk about? Then we'll get to Tony, John and Tony
and Chickland on the other side of Joe Mixon. Joe Mixon, Temmy,
what's going on?
Speaker 7 (16:46):
B Sometime you're gonna have to be speed, Sometime you're
gonna have to be powered. Sometime you're gonna have to
be a blush like Man, I've been blessed enough unfortunately
kill for John Ross.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
So at the end of the day, man, I just.
Speaker 7 (16:58):
Try to do whatever I can tap be created for
one within the run school and also being single with
the alignment, and also trying to do whatever I can
and make their blood right. So you know, we're just
taking a lot of fighting and being on the same page,
and it's been taking us, you know.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
A long way, all right. Joe Mixon essentially Gordon.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Whatever it is, sometime it's speed, sometimes its power, sometimes
it's a loos iness. This guy right here, y'all, y'all
have heard me say that, Tony and Sugarland. I'm bullish
on Joe Mixon. Been telling you all that for a
few months.
Speaker 8 (17:31):
Hey, I'm bullished on Joe Mixon as well. But before
I get to my point, let me say this man,
let me let me just get something on my chips.
The defense played outstanding yesterday with the with the with
the exception of the rug play that should have been
called Downsfille as an as an a violation, they played
(17:51):
absolutely outstanding. As a matter of fact, you know, I
heard I heard Gordy talking about, you know what he
does against the Texans. When he plays against the Texans.
Speaker 9 (18:01):
This dude who completed going into the first half. I'm
just gonna you gonna leave it at that, sifly, let's
talk about it.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Still was in the game somehow.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
I mean, that's what's crazy, is sad scratching, like he
ain't playing great, but he's making enough plays to stay
in the game with you.
Speaker 10 (18:15):
For offense, that's because of your offense, Gordy, and I keep.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Offense is to give up a sixty nine pass player
to Josh Downs.
Speaker 10 (18:25):
That dude, every dog have his day at the end
of the day.
Speaker 9 (18:29):
The rethought it was in this game for the most part,
is because the offense wasn't able to convert.
Speaker 10 (18:34):
And I keep saying this, I'm a down the Seals.
Speaker 9 (18:36):
Look at the look at the You know, everybody talked
about the offensive line being so bad. How can the
offensive line be so bad? When Joe Mixon set a record,
wanted to play well, one of the first players to
ever rush for a new team for four one hundred
yards east game and a touchdown.
Speaker 10 (18:53):
That's not a bad offensive line. It's the scheme.
Speaker 9 (18:56):
The scheme that the Texans are running for that passing
game is bad. It's a wrong scheme. Just like the
play call, y'all said, that was it on Joe Mixon
or CJ.
Speaker 10 (19:05):
Stride with the pits. No, that was the defense. Blew
up that play, bro that had nothing to do. The
depicture was online.
Speaker 9 (19:12):
The defensive player was in the backfield literally on Joe
mixing when the pitch got to him.
Speaker 10 (19:17):
Just like, why are you wanting to reverse? Why are
you running the reverse when.
Speaker 9 (19:20):
You can't even protect your quarterback they're getting So the
scheme is all wrong for the passing game. What about
the third and two, bro, the third and two you
want a screenplay to receive a receiver screenplay when you
got a receiver block in a cornerback.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
You're talking about on the matchie catch. Yeah, but listen,
if Hutch makes the block, Met's out the back door.
Speaker 10 (19:43):
But but that's the thing though, why you can't hunches.
Speaker 9 (19:46):
You got a hunch block in a cornerback who's basically
at the end of the day, I'm not gonna bank
I'm not I'm not banking.
Speaker 10 (19:53):
On HUDs making the absolute positive. And you know perfettion block.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
Oh wait a minute, Oh we gotta be fair here,
wait a minute. We see wide receivers block corners all
the time in this league. We can't be out there
with an offense where we just don't believe our And
what Hutch is not a little dude? What's hunch six
four twenty pounds? Like Hutch is a big dude too.
Speaker 10 (20:17):
But look at the look at the time of the play.
Speaker 9 (20:19):
Call you inside of the freaking like fifteen yard Like
that's a.
Speaker 10 (20:23):
Bad call, right, tire Bro thirty two thirty two. I'm
giving it to Mixing all day long. If he doesn't
get it it was supposed to ask.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
Now, that's a good point by you, cool because he
just had six yards. It was second you hands it
off the Mixing for six third and two, except that
you're down to the thirteen of Indianapolis.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
I'm not when you have automatic points on the board
right there and I know you want to touchdown instead
of the field goal. I'm not losing this game by
trying to get cute Joe take us the rest of
the way.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
I'm I'm now convinced Demiko Musk get bonuses for every
time Hommi Fairbarn wins AFC Player of the Week, because
that's it feels like every damn drive is setting up
to damn set up a field goal.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
What score touchdowns? Let's put some people likes to right.
He likes to win ball games, and he does that
a lot. Demico Ryan Steele has never lost back to
back games outside of the first two of his career
here in Houston. The brother simply bounces back better than
or as good as anybody else in the league. Right now,
all right, let's pause pivot. John Jacob kJ and the
(21:27):
rest of you. Overreaction Under Reaction, Proper Reaction. Tony Sugarland
brought up the offensive line. They must go under the microscope.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
You know what we do. On Next Up, Fleeting Gordon
KBM me.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
To the next episode. You can't even stop yourself, Finn John.
Speaker 5 (21:46):
Next as Next Up continues on seven ninety.
Speaker 11 (21:53):
Maj finished with you know, two and eighty yard and passing.
He made great decisions with the football all day, kept
us out of some bad plays. Can't say enough about
what CJ is doing and how he's just leading his
offense so proud, are very proud of him. And it's
just multiple guys stepping up making plays night HUDG match,
(22:16):
I mean, Schultz did everybody, everybody in the offense stepped
up and made plays and again playing These guys know
it was gonna be hard, all right to stop the
run and Joe again over one hundred yards. Joe showed
up big time for us when we needed it most,
making plays.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Head coach to the Houston Texans, the Miko Ryans that
we're half an hour into our one here on the Overreaction, Underreaction,
Proper Reaction Monday Live from the Gallery area Fleet, Gordy,
there's Trey Walker.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
In for Connor.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
We're going to the phone lines here in just a moment,
but I want to make sure that I acknowledge what
Tony and sugar Land added. We had to get out
of a little bit. Joe Mixing is now the fourth.
Let me get shore. I get this right.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
Do do do?
Speaker 10 (23:03):
Do do?
Speaker 3 (23:05):
The first non rookie to achieve defeat of over one
hundred yards and a touchdown in four of his first
five games with a new team. That's what Joe Mixon
just accomplished. The fourth of it. To do it, it's
bad man. Listen now, some of you. I had fun
(23:27):
thinking about this on the way he Gordon, Remember we
were going through all the running backs, Josh Jacob, Saquon Barkley,
who else we were talking about. Tony Pollard at one point,
like Kareem Hunt I think was on the street, and
of course Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
I was like Derick Henry.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
I don't know that any of those other guys would
have fit like Joe Mixons fit, with the exception of
maybe Derrick Henry. I would have been very excited about
adding Derrick Henry to this offense. But Joe having played
in this system previously and just the dude that he is,
it just works.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
You know, we'll get We'll get into the old line
stuff too. And I was just rewatching his touchdown. Do
you know that's when Patterson was in the game. He
makes a great block. Something to think about moving forward.
I know he went into what the concussion?
Speaker 1 (24:18):
I just Kenyan Green.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Man, it's a it's a what was the old mean
girls line? Stopped making stop trying to make fetch happen?
Like Kenyan green I know your first round of bro,
but once, once we're a few years in this thing.
I don't give a damn for your first round or
seventh round or undrafted. I gotta play my best guys.
If you're not one of my best five, we'll look
somewhere else.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
All right, let's go to the phone lines going on
the northwest side. John's been holding it for a while.
I thank you for your patients, John, go ahead.
Speaker 12 (24:44):
Hey, guys, I want to uh give a shout out
to Devin Martin. I think that that guy, excuse me, yeah,
I think that was a tremendous pickup. And boy, he
looked good yesterday considering he just came last week, and
(25:04):
he's a quick he's a quick study. And I mean
the guys, the guy's a stud. I mean you look
at him there. I mean that's a big dude that
can go sideline to sideline as as well as anybody.
And I think that that was a huge pickup by
detections and I think it's going to make a big difference.
But he adds physicality, he adds speed.
Speaker 13 (25:26):
He adds everything you need on the defense, you know,
certainly in that linebacker position. And uh, I'm gonna I'm
gonna lay off the offensive line today. I've been critical
enough on it, but no, I just wanted to give
a shout out. I think Devin White is just a
huge pickup for detections and I'm really excited about it.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
And he looked good he plays yesterday.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
Yeah, my man John on the northwest side going to
you and I did a little bit of a prop bit.
We said, how many snaps would Devin White get overall
percentage of snaps on the defense coming into yesterday? That
number is now out. What do you guess that number is?
If you't already know how many snaps? What percentage of
snaps that's the easiest way for me. Forty thirty, I said,
(26:09):
I could see him at half. He came in at
exactly fifty percent. He played thirty two defensive snaps. Did
Devin White? They had him a kind of a spiral
spying Anthony Richardson at some points. Uh, and then he
Jake Hanson and nevill Hewittt kind of had a rotation
going for a little bit. So I think we will
see more of Devin White moving forward.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
Well, which on is I think it was the tim
They credited Tim Settle with the sack, but the broadcast
crew said Devin White had the sack, and if you'll
get the stat park there, they credited to Tim Settle.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
But it's whatever. The guys in the room will know.
Devin White was around the football. I think he still
has plenty left to offer this game. I agree with John,
that's a good pick up. All right, let's continue on
the phone line shot with friend of the station, friend
of the show. Let's go out to Cypress kJ. Good morning, fellows, fellas,
let's crack it all right, day to go as usual.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
I am a big fan of the show.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Real quick, I would like to take the last college
approach and not harp on the offensive line again, but
it's obvious they're the bane of Houston Texas existence. I've
said several weeks now in a row that there's no
team in the league that I fear. The only thing
that I fear when it comes to the Texans are
the Texans because at fools trends, if that old line
(27:26):
could be mediocre offensively, when everybody's healthy, they're just as
potent as anybody's league. You have a super Bowl kind
of a defense as far as takeaways are concerned. Real quick,
before I go any further, I just thought about this too.
This was my take, but I got a question. I
saw that Caleb Bulack got took up earlier in the
game yesterday. Yeah, did he ever come back? He did
(27:47):
come back in the game. He had a shoulder took
him into the tent and I got checked out a
little bit. I don't know how much time he missed,
but he did return to the game. He'll be on
the injury report. Given that it's a short week, I'm
guessing there's an injury report as early as today, more
than likely tomorrow, but we'll see.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
It's a weird week, Okay, real quick.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
First of all, I liked what I don't know if
it was bout the Slowa called of Dimico's call, but
the fact that they benched, and although it was briefly,
the fact that they benched, ken Your Green sent a
message to me.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
That's to me because Kenya Green was in CJ's lap.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
To me, even after he came in, he played slightly better,
but that's like going from a one and a half
to a three.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
He was still guarded.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
And the fact that the message had to be sent
on national television that do what You're not getting a judge,
Juice grugs pff grade. I imagine it couldn't have been
too high. And one more thing, when it comes to
the running back Mixing Mixing, real quick, yeah, real quick.
I think we're giving the offensive line too much credit
(28:52):
when it comes.
Speaker 10 (28:53):
To Joe Mixing and what he's doing.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
I'm not saying they don't deserve any credit, but a
lot of those runs are just determination run. Joe Mixing
runs with intent and purpose. He's still getting met at
the first wave. He's getting met at the line of scrimmage.
I have get to see her run with Joe Mixon
goes up the whole un touched for four or five
yards before he's finally brought down. I don't A lot
(29:16):
of his runs are just looking. I'm gonna get the ball.
I know they need me. The old line is troubling,
so I'm just gonna hit the whole hard. First man,
grab you. I hope you got an insurance policy. Last,
but not least, the uh, the the message that Kenyan
Green I forgot my last punk fellas. I might have
to get hit us up on the old Twitter machine.
(29:37):
Appreciate kJ and cypress on that Gordon Joe Mixing on
that touchdown run, just slinging defensive backskt AND's off me
get in the weight room, Joe Mixing beast.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
I always saw I was rewatching some the Highlands. I
thought we saw two of the better running backs in
the league. I mean, on the other side, Johnny Taylor
is a bad so I'm sitting there going on and they.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Didn't have him. Texans with blo them out. I mean,
you know, Jonathan Taylor.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
If the if the Texans offensive line blocked as well
as the Coats offensive line, Joe Mixon might be leading
the league.
Speaker 10 (30:13):
CORUSG.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Joe Mixon is crazy and you're right, like his effort,
the physicality, his temperament, Like when you talk about a
swarm mentality, that's what it looks like at the running
back position.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Isn't there one time? Wasn't there a playwork? Anthy Richardson
ran and then pitched it out just and like.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Jonthan Taylor got down the field. Yes, Now, Johnathan Taylor
was a bad boy.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
What did he do? Let me pull up his stat line.
I saw Bucco five for him.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Average five point three yards of carrying a touchdown in
his own right. So two guys wearing twenty eight, two
of the better backs in the league, and they're just
going to blow for blow. And in the end, Joe
Mixon's team did a little bit more from a defensive standpoin.
We still haven't braken on the defense. Good news is
we have more of a show to go. Final segment
of the ten o'clock hour going in fleet overreaction, underreaction,
(31:08):
proper reaction.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Here on.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
Next up, we'll get Paul and bel Air and John
and Knee. It'll chime in. Feel free to do the same.
Seven one three, two, one two five seven ninety real
texts talking Listen to KB and me.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Next Up continues now.
Speaker 14 (31:23):
So I'm a new listener at already a huge new listener.
Speaker 5 (31:26):
I love the show with Stan nor Fleet Jed Chris
Gorty on Sports Talk seven night.
Speaker 11 (31:34):
Given the circumstance, I wouldn't be surprised if this is
a designed run for the quarterback.
Speaker 15 (31:38):
But and it pick up pit Tree hunt to ten,
pit Tree cuts it back and he is stop right
theren What ain't disaster for the Colts late in the
first half.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
I appreciate the call by the CBS crew. Who is that?
That's Andrew Catalan, That's my guy, t Ikey Barber representing
the University of Virginia. Jalen Petrie, I don't know what
the hell Anthony Richardson is doing checking out of what
an obvious run. Take it to the half, you get
the ball coming out the half. You don't do that
to create a turnover at which added points tank Dale
(32:14):
gets into the end zone a couple plays later.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Welcome back to next up. As we wrap up our.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
One and Gordy, I want to pivot as we start
the eleven o'clock hour into the defense. But Jalen Petrie,
we know he got caught up on the bus of coverage.
He got picked off on the rough route for the
Josh Downs touchdown. Many people are heaping praise, as did
Demico on Jalen Petrie. Petrie's first interception since twenty twenty two,
(32:43):
So we didn't have a single one all the last year. Obviously,
the first one this year Petrie stand out to you.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
Yeah, he's He's had some up and down mopings this year,
but I thought that was that was a good game
overall for him. Yeah, I mean he four tackles, tack
for a law US past defense. Yeah, good game from Petrie.
Another good game from Neville Hewett. I thought too, you know,
to the tackles he had. How many times were they
call him Eric Murray's name early in that one. Eric
(33:13):
Murray was was around and about doing things Eric Murray did, Papa,
I can't even lie Eric Murray had. There was some
graphic three passes defense for Eric Murray. He was tied
for the team lead in total tackles with Will Anderson Jr.
Who will talk a lot about as well. I get
on Eric Murray when he plays not great. I don't
(33:36):
think he's a starter in this league. But with Jimmy
Ward being out he's having to play.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
He did not hurt the Texans yesterday, so I will
certainly commend the brothers of playing good ball.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
There.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
Let's go to the phones, going to people being hold
and still want to get in. And there's still so
many we haven't talked about. Will Anderson Jr. There's a
whole We may do two segments on this offensive line
because I got to make an admission and it's going
to be uncomfortable for some folks in our g It
will be fair, though, I promise Paul and Belly are
(34:09):
get in here on a Monday morning.
Speaker 16 (34:11):
Hey, good morning, standing Chris, Thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 10 (34:14):
I think you're right.
Speaker 16 (34:16):
They had a great Mixon had a great game. Dimiko's
defense was great. And finally that in the opposing coach
basically gave us a gift of seven points in the
first half at the end of the first half, and
I think all Colts fans must be throwing things at
their TV for not putting Flacco in the game in
the second half. I have no idea why they didn't
do that, and even at the end of the game,
even at the end of the game, they didn't. Richardson
(34:37):
didn't run the ball.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Out of violence.
Speaker 16 (34:39):
They could have had it thirty more seconds. They could
have had a chance at a game time fuego. Anyway,
I think the question I had for you was are
they going to be able to get somebody like Hooper Cup?
And number two I'm glad that you Tank Dell will
get more throws now? And number two will they be
able to ask somebody on their offensive line? And finally,
(35:00):
by the way, man DeAndre Hopkins looks fantastic playing with Mahomes.
It's bad news for the NFL. I'll hang up the least.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Don't everybody look good playing with dat Patrick Mahomes? Uh? Fairpoint?
Going to NFL trade deadline a week from tomorrow, I
can't imagine unless this def Diggs deal and the reports
are from people that I've heard in the building, this
def Diggs thing is sounding serious. Now, that's just people's opinion,
(35:28):
not anyone that has seen the film or the imaging
or anything like that.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
Yeah, let me let me just give you real quick.
This was Aaron Wilson's piece up at Sports seven niney
dot com this morning. Diggs will go an MRI exam
to determine the severity and nature of the injury. There's
a high level of concern for Diggs from teammates and
several others close to the situation, as they fear he
has suffered a potential season ending injury. Aaron would write
(35:52):
that if that, in other words, he's hearing that there's
credence there. That's scary. The good news is, at least
this is from Aaron, we could go today. Nico Collins
on injury reserve of the hamstring injury out at least
two more games, so that included this past weekend, is
doing well in his recovery with no setbacks. That means
you could potentially have to go to New York this
(36:12):
week with basically tag tells your loan receiver. However, it's
trending towards you would possibly get Nico back the week after,
so that would be good news.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
So I'm gonna make this and that is good news.
I had somebody else in the building not named Aaron
Wilson tell me they fear it is an ACL for
Steph Diggs.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
All right, just the way they all reacted didn't feel good.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
As someone that has torn in ACL, I can tell
you that, well, mine was more significant than how Steph Diggs.
I could not walk off, but he did at least
walk off on his own power. It is of the
non contact variety. So we'll see. I just want to
say this while we're here. We got another week to
get to this. If Steph Diggs is going to miss
significant time, even if Nico can return after this Thursday
(36:57):
night's game in New York, the Texans absolutely should go
find another receiver. Someone that I've heard to be on
the trade block other than Cooper Cup is Deontay Johnson,
formerly of the Steelers, currently of the Carolina Panthers. You
could go get him for peanuts. They have to go
add somebody else that wide receiver room with outstepped Diggs
(37:18):
and you just inject the healthy Nico back.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
We're back to where we were to start the year.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
When I told you that they were going to go
find a receiver, y'all told me I was crazy. I
told you people in the league were telling me that,
and I wound up being right.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
So that's that part. kJ osborn in New England and other.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
I'd be interested in kicking the times on that these
are guys that you just need to come in and be, like,
just be a functional piece veterans, grown ups.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
That have been there, done that. Adam Theeling, I could
be talking to Adam Thling.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
Let me see, let me see some production, let me
see where he is, how's he moving, let me see
some of that. But I could be talking on the Theling.
I'm all right that John and Neville, let's get in here, man.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
Hey man.
Speaker 10 (37:56):
A couple of things.
Speaker 17 (38:00):
Yeah, I noticed yesterday during the game, and this would
be a major concern if I was a Colts fan
and a Colts owner, Coats coach with the organization. John
noticed every time that Richardson comes off the field, he
just sits there.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
You mean, in terms of on the bench and not
being communicative with the guys, is what you're saying?
Speaker 10 (38:21):
No, no, no, no, no no.
Speaker 17 (38:22):
Without every time you watch an NFL quarterback come off
that field, one of the first things he grabs is
is that.
Speaker 10 (38:30):
I pad yeah, well the one yeah, yeah, he wasn't.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
He wouldn't.
Speaker 18 (38:36):
He was just like, okay, tell me something good, tell
me something I need to hear Joe, and Joe Flacco
was like, man, why ain't y'all putting me in?
Speaker 10 (38:47):
I was laughing. I thought it was hilarious, So.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
Go ahead, get to your point. You're up against it
just a little bit.
Speaker 19 (38:53):
Go ahead, Yeah, hear my point, gentlemen earlier called in
and see ye he does not see a problem.
Speaker 10 (39:01):
And I could misunderstood it.
Speaker 19 (39:03):
But did he not say he does not see a
problem that big of a problem with that old line
and that Joe Mintioning.
Speaker 10 (39:09):
Is doing all this and where's the problems with.
Speaker 19 (39:11):
The along Let me tell you what, Podner, If you
don't see the problem with the old line and people
pounding on your quarterback weekly, then I'm sorry, sir, but
you don't have a recollection of good football. Because Green
had Patterson I believe was his name, Yes, Patterson not
(39:32):
gone out, Green would have never seen the field again yesterday.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Fair point by you, John and Neville. We will open
up the eleven o'clock hour, Gordon, we gotta do a
deep dive on this old line. And I'm gonna have
to say some things that some folks at NRG might
be upset with me, although I do like them, y'all
know me. I'm gonna be hard for fair. Nobody is
nobody is safe, no matter who it is in town.
You play good ball, I'm gonna say, you play good ball.
You play like some dog bleak, then I'm gonna have
(39:59):
to say this is how you played. Don't be mad
at me. Play better. I'll say better things. Jacob on
the north side, close out this segment, if you would,
all right.
Speaker 20 (40:07):
Yes, sir, ay six and two, baby, Yeah, six and two.
They finally used the play action pass. They finally used it.
They gave him a little bit more time. Now the
offensive line, Yeah, they need to bring the tight ends
in a little bit double tight end and use them
for blocking. And they ain't got no fool back to
help now, uh and and and Diggs man, damn he was.
(40:30):
He was on his way to one hundred yards yesterday
before they popped them.
Speaker 10 (40:33):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 20 (40:34):
But they deep, they got wood, they got you know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
They got Yeah, and Richardson real quick.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Richardson he four and four.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
He got a better record than Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 20 (40:47):
He got a better record than the other two quarterbacks
in the division and a.
Speaker 10 (40:50):
Bunch of other ones. Yeah, they said he don't he
didn't throw.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
He'll throw that bomb on you. He walked.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
They know what they got.
Speaker 20 (40:58):
They gotta work with him, and then you know he
gonna be alright, and and and then last eight Stan.
Speaker 10 (41:02):
Yeah, my boy should doing Sanders in Colorado?
Speaker 21 (41:06):
What I tell you about that?
Speaker 14 (41:07):
Alright?
Speaker 4 (41:08):
Man should door Sanders suck for Shador. That's the slogan
for teams up at the top.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
He's not the leader of men.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
And now Anthony Richardson is a feast or famine quarterback.
Give me the last one of those guys that hoisted
the Lombardy. I wait, those feast of famine dudes, they're
not sustainable. It looks sexy. It may do well in
your fantasy go to DraftKings, do all those things. It's
(41:38):
not going win you a title. I like my guy
to be boring. I do like a little pititass, but
be boring. Master that move the chains, kick field goals,
score down in the red zone, and I like my
offensive line to block. That is where we start the
eleven o'clock hour, one hour Togo, taking phone calls all
the way through seven one, three, two, two, five seven
ninety overreaction, underreaction, per Ropper reaction. Now, I can't speak
(42:03):
for Anthony Richardson, but I know the dude in seven
in blue for the Houston Texans. He's a stud and
if you good, sir, I'm talking about you want to
be treated like the stud that you are.

Speaker 22 (43:17):
Next next This is next time Whistan Northfleet, Chris Gordy,
Let's see what.
Speaker 3 (43:31):
Kick it off the second half and only the way
we do here On next up Curtisy or Sports Talk
seven ninety your home for Houston sports. Thanks to everybody
that has us preset number one on the audio down.
Speaker 1 (43:42):
You know you can go.
Speaker 3 (43:42):
Get caught up on the first hour of this show
as well as the entire lineup on Sports seven ninety
dot com.
Speaker 1 (43:48):
What about that free iHeartRadio app?
Speaker 3 (43:50):
Yeah, take it with you wherever you are inside the loop,
maybe you inside the belt. Wait where I was at
over the weekend. Oh, I was up there at Prayer
of You. They had me going from spring to review.
I was on ninety nine and I went up to
two ninety. I say, can I get the free y'all
Heart radio app? Bumpett, Yeah, there we go. Gotta make
sure I get that work. And Mama Fleet was in town.
She spoke very highly and glowingly about the city of
(44:12):
Houston her first time here. She's made it back safely
to the Carolinas. For those that wanted to inquire about
that type of thing, we are inquiring about how the
Texans can continue to do what they did on Sunday,
and that's when a football game. Texans six and two,
sitting in that two spot right now in the AFC
overall picture behind the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. The Texans
(44:34):
five and oh are they in the conference? And if
the playoffs were to begin in week nine, if you will,
the Taxans would host a wildcard round game.
Speaker 1 (44:44):
Who's up the seventh seed?
Speaker 3 (44:45):
Now Denver has moved up the Los Angeles Chargers currently
sitting at the seventh seed. Lord, please let Baltimore start
winning more games. They get beat by Cleveland yesterday led
by Jameis Winston. But I want no part of Baltimore
as a seventh seed coming into our house with the
Texans at a two seed. On the part of that,
we will see Baltimore in the regular season coming up
(45:06):
on Christmas Day. All right, our one, you can go
back in here for yourself. Joe Mixon, I told y'all mixing,
he's the MVP of the team right now, certainly of
the offense. All due respect to CJ. CJ's superpower thus
far has been more often than not, he doesn't turn
the ball over. Now the fumble is on him, you know,
(45:27):
to pitch the mixing that is accredited to him yesterday.
All right, but CJ isn't consistently putting the ball in
Harm's way. Very different from Anthony Richardson checking out of
a run play going into the half, throwing the intercepts
into Jay of the Petri and very happy for Petrie.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
That was just done Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
All right, So we gotta talk about CJ here, and
I see you guys, Anthony and John. I'm coming to
you because we all want to talk about the same thing.
And I put this on in real time on my
social media at stand Sportsman. This is tough for me
to say, and no it's not personal, but it's just
what I see. I do not have confidence that Demiko,
(46:11):
Bobby Sloyd and Chris Strass of the offensive line coach.
Demiko told me everything was on the table to fix
this whole line. If it's not penalties, it's mental errors.
If it's not mental errors, it's blown assignments. If it's
not blown assignments, its excuses like the opposing crowd is
to damn loud and for how for the reason we
(46:33):
can't go on a snap count it like there's we're
out of reasons.
Speaker 1 (46:38):
Somebody please get it fixed.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
The dude over there that's winning jersey seven in blue
is picking himself up off the damn carpet every time
or every other time he drops back. It's gotten so
bad the pass pro it's gotten so bad that Bobby
Sloyd has chosen we're just gonna cut off half the
field from CJ. And they started more move in the pocket.
(47:01):
We do not trust the offensive line and pass protection.
We don't trust him to the point that I'm going
to cut off half the field and I'm gonna give
my quarterback a short intermediate and a deep option and
we're gonna run a levels concept. That's basic ass high
school football levels concept, rolling out, moving the pocket. It's inexcusable,
(47:24):
and it's bigger than just one guy, although we do
have to talk about one guy saying why are you
blowing a gasket? CJ threw for what did he threw for?
Two sixty?
Speaker 1 (47:33):
HEJ?
Speaker 3 (47:34):
I had the numbers up early two eighty something. I
don't know what it was. We're gonna get lost in
the sauce on that, but that's why you listen to
the show. I'm two eighty five, CJ threw four, aren't cool.
The accumulation of body blows will knock out any heavyweight champ.
I'm tired of seeing my guy get hit, staying he
(47:54):
was only sacked twice. Why are you tripping? Okay? CJ.
Stroud being pressed on an astounding seventy one percent of
his drop packs at one point early in the third quarter.
Seventy one percent of the time. That's seven out of ten.
That's a lot. That's abnormal. That's in the third quarter.
By the end of the game, though, that number had
(48:15):
dropped the fifty seven and a half percent, which is
still a career high for CJ.
Speaker 1 (48:21):
Stroud. He's being pressured, he's being sacked.
Speaker 3 (48:25):
Only two quarterbacks came into this week being sacked more
than CJ. He's being pressured. He's being sacked miraculously, he's
not turning the.
Speaker 1 (48:33):
Ball over more.
Speaker 3 (48:35):
Oh and J, Just so you know that it's fair
when I'm saying about the offensive line, and I don't
trust that they're going to do the things to fix it,
because I don't think they can. They're not gonna bench
lambertunso I don't necessarily think they should, but they're not
going to. They're not gonna move tightest left guard, or
they would have They're not gonna put Blake Fisher at
right tackle. To do that, you gotta move tight as
(48:56):
a laramie. They aren't gonna do that. Clearly, Shaq Mace
is not moving. Juice Scrug is the center. He was
drafted to be the center. If they were gonna move
Juice Hugs, they would have put Patterson at center.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
They aren't gonna do that.
Speaker 3 (49:07):
The only thing they tried to do was Paul Kenyon
Green and they put Jared Patterson in there at left guard.
They're gonna tend play drive resulting into Joe Mixing touchdown.
Patterson gets concussed and now he's done. So instead of
going to ken Drick Green instead of ken Young Green,
they go right back to Kenyon Domiko organizationally. Is no
(49:29):
disrespect personally. I'm just telling you what you've shown me.
Stop telling me that all things on the table to
fix it, because it's not. And if it were, you
wouldn't have started Kenyon, or you would have put ken
Drick in over Kenyon. You would have told Titus Howard
bro you're going to left guard. I just don't want
to hear it. We're compensating you handsomely go to left guard.
That's where we need you right now. Oh, by the way,
(49:51):
there's La Mantonzo with his weekly false start, staying they
wanted to just let CJ cook thirty seven attempts. Okay,
you remember what happened the last time he went to
met Life Stadium and the back of his head was
dribbling off the turf like it was Madison Square going
on the other side of the river. That's kind of
(50:13):
not a good thing. I'm kind of trying to prevent
that from happening.
Speaker 1 (50:18):
Now.
Speaker 3 (50:18):
CJ's gonna say all the right things, but the bottom
line is they aren't going to have sustainable success unless
they get this group up front taken care of it.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
Bothers me.
Speaker 3 (50:31):
I'm sitting up there watching this thing with Wex, and
I had to be getting on Wex's nerves.
Speaker 1 (50:35):
I'm like, my god. They had eleven tackles for loss,
so it's not just pass pro.
Speaker 3 (50:46):
This is now back to back weeks, the opponent has
had double digit tackles for loss. If memory serves, what
Joe Mixing is accomplishing behind this online, I can't explain
it now.
Speaker 1 (51:01):
I'm not telling you they're awful from start to finish.
Speaker 3 (51:04):
They have moments, they just don't stream together good enough moments.
This offensive line is a problem. I'm trying to get
to an AMC title game and get to a super
Bowl with that online playing like that. God it before
we take the phones. I don't believe that they're willing
to do anything to fix the old line.
Speaker 1 (51:22):
So I'm tired of hearing it. I just don't well.
Speaker 4 (51:25):
The benching Kenyan Green was a start, but now with
Patterson likely cushion protocol in a short week, I don't
think you're getting him back.
Speaker 1 (51:34):
So I got a lean on Kenyon Green. No, I
can put Kendrick Green in there, or I can put
Titus Hovel in there.
Speaker 3 (51:41):
I have options if I wanted to do something about it.
I don't think they're gonna go down that path, though,
nor do I, which is crazy as hell to me.
How like Gordon like, at this point, we can't ignore it.
Remember when Demko told us the piendies will get addressed,
the penlanises would get addressed, and then after week after
week they still got penalties. Now he's telling us the
(52:01):
offensive line will get addressed. The offensive line will get
addressed week at the week at the week, I'm watching
CJ Pick yourself up. Here was a man in CJ
stride as a rookie that was concussed miss two games.
Oh and y'all forgot he had a mildly separated shoulder
that he quietly told us about. Just makes no sense, man,
(52:23):
I'm sorry I went on the tangent. Let's do this
on the other side, John and Anthony. I promise I'll hush.
I'll hear from Gordon and hear from you guys on
the other side. This offensive line is a problem. Do
you believe they'll get it fixed? Can we offer them
some solutions? Seven one, three, two two five seven.
Speaker 5 (52:38):
Ninety Statton north Fleet and Chris Cordy.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
This is next up on Sports Sunk seven ninety.
Speaker 12 (52:52):
Yeah, Hey, hopping in and I started the v taking
the Agress of the.
Speaker 3 (52:59):
Heart at this Sea about forty minutes from now Matt Thomas,
Roth Fierryali bring you to Matt Thomas show. Until then,
Gordon and I take it up until noone taking your
phone calls overreaction, underreaction, proper reaction. Some of you are
probably saying, I'm overreacting to the offensive line. Hell, I
think it's an underreaction. I probably should be losing my
bleep even more.
Speaker 1 (53:22):
CJ.
Speaker 3 (53:22):
Stroud out there getting hit eleven tackles for loss by
the opposition. Again, y'all cool with that, staying they won
the game, and yes they did. I celebrate that yesterday.
I celebrate that today. There was some good. I started
the show bragging on Joe Mixon. My got Steph Diggs.
Gordon was on the way to one hundred yards. CJ.
(53:44):
Mostly took care of the football. John MITCHI glad to
see you get involved there, sir. Now what I haven't done,
and we'll do that this hour. We'll talk about the defense.
We bragged on Eric Murray. I was very complimentary of
Jalen Petrie, what Bragon, Devin White got some love. The linebackers,
(54:05):
Neville Hewitt, Jake Hanson got some love. Lassiter with a
near interception. I think last of that got caught on
a different rub route. Brad On some dudes short week
here come to Jets. We go to the phone lines
again seven one, three, five, seven ninety. Then gordere I'll
get a thought from you, John on the northwest side.
(54:25):
Let's talk on line A.
Speaker 21 (54:27):
Yeah, man, you know, yeah that that past protection is
still horrible. You know, when they took that lacking from
Baltimore in the playoffs, they couldn't handle that bliss. You know,
they turned around this offseason and they hired two more
offensive line coach. They apparently they have three offensive line coaches.
They're in the room with these offensive linemans. I really
(54:48):
put the blame on them. You got three offensive line
coach sir? Is this the best job y'all can do?
Got to do better than just hear you know anyway?
That's all I got to say. We can't be no
one trick pony man.
Speaker 2 (54:59):
It ain't gonna last appreciate.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
You, now, Gordon, that's news to me. My understanding against that.
Speaker 3 (55:03):
Strawser is the biggest voice in the old line room.
Now he answers to Bobby Slow against Bobby's offense. But uh,
and maybe he has some assistant old line coaches. That's
not unusual in the league. But in terms of like
three guys, that's something that's new to me. If everybody
has quote equal sake. Nonetheless, Gordon, you gotta be concerned
(55:26):
CJ's health. Yeah, So where like where are you if
somebody was to say to you, Stan is fine. CJ's
he's a young guy. You know, he doesn't have a
history of serious injuries. This is just part of playing
the position, like you have to take the good with
the bad.
Speaker 1 (55:44):
Are we okay with CJ.
Speaker 3 (55:45):
Stroud continuing to drop back thirty seven times, exposing himself
to what we saw yesterday and quite frankly, what we've
seen more often than not this year.
Speaker 4 (55:54):
Teams are pressuring the bleep out of him. Yeah, number two,
number two in the NFL its Deshaun Watson far and
away at thirty. He was sacked thirty three times. It's
crazy about that because he's done for the year. Yeah,
he's still number one, but tied for number two.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
CJ.
Speaker 4 (56:10):
Stroud, Caleb Williams of Garnerments. You've been sacked twenty two
times this year.
Speaker 1 (56:14):
And Daniel Jones has been on that list and they
played tonight.
Speaker 4 (56:16):
Daniel he's twenty one, so if he gets sacked at
least a couple of times, he'll jump ahead of them.
But yeah, Geno Smith, Sam Darnold right there. It's just
that's a list you don't want to see your quarterback on.
And you go down lower and you see like in
the bottom half you got like Kyler Murray eleven, Josh
Allen ten.
Speaker 1 (56:38):
Oh, you got to hear this. Jordan loves seven.
Speaker 3 (56:42):
So there's a certain quarterback in this town that was
in the press box on Sunday, and there are several
love them.
Speaker 1 (56:49):
So I will keep some anonymity there.
Speaker 3 (56:53):
And I asked this individual yesterday at the stadium. I said,
I'm gonna tell you what I see, and you tell
me if I'm crazy, because you know, I'm just a
former defender that you know, flirted with the league. I said,
I think regardless of what he says, I'm watching the
decisions and his body language.
Speaker 1 (57:14):
CJ. Stroud is flinching in the pocket. CJ.
Speaker 3 (57:19):
Stroud's eyes are not fixated down the field as long
as they were in a given play last season. His
eyes are coming down and he's looking more at the
rush and how he's going to evade and throw across
his body and pull them my homes. When last year
(57:40):
he was standing in there looking down the you know,
figurative barrel of the shotgun and delivering the BB, just
dopping up the field all over the place.
Speaker 1 (57:51):
Two this year, CJ's pulling that ball down.
Speaker 3 (57:55):
Some people are saying, also CJ may be holding onto
the ball a little bit longer. I had to point
out on social media, if you're going to run routes
deeper down the field, the quarterback has to hold on
the ball longer because it takes time for those receivers
to get down there. I asked that to a quarterback
in this league or someone that has quarterbacked in this league,
and they told me unequivocally, you are absolutely spot on.
(58:19):
Stand now. CJ's not gonna say that. The team is
not gonna say that. So that makes me nervous. The
quarterback can't get through hell. Do you remember last week
Gordon Bobby Sloyd when asked what was that on Thursday,
Bobby slow Bobby slowych said, oh yeah, some of the
players we just can't We can't run them. We can't
(58:42):
run what we really want to do because the protection
has been a concern. They won the game yesterday and
I praised them for that, and CJ played well, what
was his pass ray in Gordon? Was it a hundred
and something? Where was he at? What's CJ passeray coming
at ninety nine point five? So just shut one hundred.
I'd like to see him one hundred as a baseline.
(59:03):
But ninety nine and a half ain't bad again. Sack
twice threw the one touchdown to Tang Deal again twenty
five for thirty seven to eighty five. Go ahead, Gee,
I'm listening to you, bro. I got other things because
we hadn't said the guy. We still hadn't gotten to
(59:24):
Kingy Green. I still got material here.
Speaker 4 (59:27):
Well again I go back to it's well, not as
most as you're winning. That's what matters most. You're sixty two,
one of the best records in AFC, and who knows, well,
I'll help. Maybe the Chiefs might actually want to get
the lose a game along the way. Are they ever
gonna lose? Goodness gracious, but uh well, Vegas give it
the best chance. But regardless, you're right there. And if
(59:48):
they falter at all, I mean you, the door could
open where you could get you know, top C and AFC.
It's just I just keep asking the question that came
to my mind all yesterday all today is does anyone
fear you? Are you scaring anyone? And you keep winning
close games? Great, you gotta just keep winning. It's great,
(01:00:09):
But I just this team has so much more potential.
Can they put it all together because they do. God
forbid they put this thing all together. The offensive lineas
blocking or you know, protecting better. Yeah, they could. They
could definitely be a team that's really feared. I think
teams do fear a healthy Nico Collins. I think teams
(01:00:30):
do fear CJ. Stroud and Domiko at home.
Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
I think teams do have a healthy amount of respect
for when the Texans are in a close game, more
often than not, the Texans are gonna win that. I
think teams do have a healthy amount of respect slash
fear when Joe Mixon is in a groove like Joe
has proven I can run us to victory.
Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
Follow me.
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
The Texans haven't had that. Granted, this is the second
season of this era. Kenyon Ringing allowed seven pressures and
a sack on Sunday. Seven pressures in a sack, jess
from Kenyon Green Mike, he's up a good Why do
(01:01:17):
you think they keep playing?
Speaker 1 (01:01:18):
I mean, like because he's the first round pick and
they want to believe or we're.
Speaker 4 (01:01:22):
Curiers removed from that. Remember the old New England, I
mean where Casserio comes from. The New England model is
once we start camp, I don't give a damn where
you're drafted.
Speaker 1 (01:01:30):
I mean they would cut first round picks.
Speaker 4 (01:01:31):
Teams say that they took that Florida wide receiver years ago,
and like I only think he even made it through
a season with them, Like we're moving on. You can
do that a when you have a guy like Brady
to mask those mistakes and b Belichick. The GM was
never afraid of being fired by Belichick, the head coach
or the owner, because the owner's not going to fire
(01:01:54):
the head coach and quarterback while they're in their prime.
Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
Is my point. Casario knows he's in a different situation here.
Domiico has the juice, So Casario wants to be right
about the guys that he picked, especially talking about a
guy in the top fifteen. Now, I'm not saying that
Kenyan Green can't help this team at all, but it
could be time to try something else.
Speaker 4 (01:02:19):
Yeah, since you drafted Kenyan Green in the first round
twenty twenty two, you've drafted three to o'd linemen and
Jrew Scrugs, Jared Patterson, and Blake Fisher. I mean you
you've had to focus an eye on that old line,
saying we need to continue to build.
Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
That's a first rounder, two second rounders, and Jared Pattison
out of Notre Dame's.
Speaker 4 (01:02:36):
A sixth rounder. Juice scrugged. Yeah, so it's yeah, one, two,
two's and a six.
Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
Yep. So you're putting resources there.
Speaker 3 (01:02:44):
And you went and traded for Shaq Mason and then
gave him a contract extension, so you're adding resources to
the position. And I think individually, this offensive line can
play pretty decent, like Lammy Tonzo, just if you would
agree aid his performances. Granted, we know how we feel
about the penalties, but like Larrmy Tones is fine, you
(01:03:06):
can win a Super Bowl with Laramy tones Le as
your left tackle. I believe you can win a Super
Bowl with tightest sign with Are's your right tackle? Shaq
Mason has two Super Bowl rings. And then you got
young guys at the left guard in the center, and
granted Grover Steward and the Forest Buckner, that's about as
good as it gets.
Speaker 1 (01:03:24):
You got a few other guys a little bit better
than that.
Speaker 3 (01:03:29):
But this is a real like, collectively, those guys aren't
playing well.
Speaker 1 (01:03:34):
So you either coach it or you allow it.
Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
So I don't know, And I said this yesterday to
that same quarterback, that was a former quarterback that was
in the press box Gordon, I said, I don't think
Oh no, I said this to a separate former NFL
player and alignment at that I said, I don't think
they truly know who to block Gordon. So we've all
(01:03:59):
been there, players, even as professionals. Sometimes you've been there.
You ever had a boss or superior You understand what
I'm saying and you're like, yeah, I sure do. And
in your mind you're like, I have no idea what
there you're talking about, but I'm gonna just figure it out.
I wonder if some of that is going on, Like
I think I know, But when it becomes live action,
(01:04:24):
and then there's another thought, I'm like, well, maybe they
have too much information on their plate. Is there something
to be said? And we see sports teams do this
all time? Do they need to just simplify? Okay, well
the other team's gonna know. I'd rather CJB protected and
the other team know what we're doing if we're going
to do it of the highest order. Maybe they simplified.
(01:04:46):
I don't know. I'm not in the meeting room. Here's
what I do know. There are a ton of resources
that have been allocated to the old line.
Speaker 1 (01:04:52):
You've got repeat.
Speaker 3 (01:04:53):
Offenders that are bleeping stuff up over there, and I've
got a quarterback that I can't win a Super Bowl without,
and he's the back of his jersey is getting more
and more dirty. And I'm extremely concerned about this, and
they have not offered me any form of relief from
(01:05:14):
over there at NRG. I love y'all over there, respect y'all,
but if it were to any other teams in town,
I would have to tell the truth. So I'm gonna
say it for y'all too. All right, let's come back.
I do want to brag on we have another positive
spin these defenders led by Will Anderson Jr. How the
Texans are closing out games. From a defensive standpoint, we
(01:05:35):
must tip our cap overreaction, underreaction, proper reaction. West Side
Joe's Next up Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:05:43):
Stantorfleet Chris Gordy j This next time on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 11 (01:05:58):
Our game plan is always about us, and that's the
main thing. If we play our defense the proper way,
if where we're supposed to be, and we make it
difficult on the opposing quarterback, no matter who it is,
so really proud of our guys for the way they
covered and also, you know more so it goes to
the D line, the credit for them and how they
(01:06:19):
rush right together.
Speaker 10 (01:06:21):
Got five sacks.
Speaker 11 (01:06:22):
I know Richardson wasn't sacked a lot before coming into
this game. We were able to get him down five
times and it was just multiple times we had pressure
on him. So it's credit goes to our D line.
The way they got after it. Up front, Danil will,
I mean settle. Everybody was in on the action of
applying pressure on the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:06:41):
What Demiko rans as we returned two more segments to
go here on next step, over reaction, underreaction, proper reaction,
and I would say that's probably a proper reaction by
Demiko Ryans lauding his defense, especially how they closed the game,
those final two possessions of the game and how they
closed the half. Going back to Jalen Petrie taking away
(01:07:03):
the football. We talked about Devin White earlier in this
Orlan this show.
Speaker 1 (01:07:09):
Excuse me.
Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
Devin White ended up playing fifty of the defensive snaps.
There's never heal it. I saw Jake Hanson doing some
things as well. But really the front Comar Lassater. Albeit
there was some you know, crafty route running and some
rubs and things going on at Petri and Lastater kind
of fighting through. Kaitlyn Bullock had to get off the
(01:07:32):
field for a little bit with a shoulder. I thought
Eric Murray three pass deflections for him. I thought, overaw,
everybody on defense did their job. Yeah, there're gonna be
some things that you can you know, the other guys
get paid to Gordon, so I'm not gonna overreact, you know.
Anthony Richardson did some things in the run Jonathan Taylor
(01:07:53):
in the run game, that's Jonathan Taylor. He's going to
get some yardage five point three yards per twenty carries.
Why they only ran him eight times in the first half,
I don't know what Shane Stykeen is doing, but that's
on him. I would continue to run Johnathon Taylor, and
I think they did that in the first game too.
In the first game, I think it was the second
half they stopped run Johnson Taylor. Don't get it, Anthony Richardson.
(01:08:16):
They held him to an abysmal what was that some
thirty percent passing, sacking him five times. He did have
the busted coverage, the rub route, the sixty nine yard
touchdown picked him off obviously, Petrie. Anthony Richardson Gordy of
passer rating forty eight point three. He did average on
six runs seven point five yards per carry. We know
he can be dangerous as an athlete. There did you
(01:08:37):
see on him?
Speaker 4 (01:08:38):
He's completing forty four point four percent of his throws
on one hundred and thirty three attempts.
Speaker 1 (01:08:43):
Since the year two thousand.
Speaker 4 (01:08:44):
There have only been three quarterbacks for the worst completion percentage.
Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
On that many attempts. Do you want to catch a
guess on any of these?
Speaker 4 (01:08:52):
Johnny Manzaiah no Evan Manzauld's better two thousand and two,
Mike McMahon twenty third team, Josh Freeman in two thousand,
Achille Smith out of Oregon, I remember a chilly Smith
with the Bengals.
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
Joe Dolan points out.
Speaker 4 (01:09:08):
Even Tim Tebow completed forty six forty percent as a
TEPS in this season as Denver's starter, he averaged thirteen
yards per completion, So I mean it's like just a business.
Even Tim Tebow, as Doll, was slightly better than Anthony
richards in this bill absurd.
Speaker 3 (01:09:25):
I'll give you this nugget, then we'll grab by west
side Joe. Uh, staying, how did the Texans get after
Anthony Richardson? They pressured him sixty percent of his dropbacks,
tied for the highest pressure rate by a defense any
defense in a game this season, according to the NFL's
Next Gen Stats. So Domiko was dialing it up and
(01:09:49):
they were getting home. I saw Denil Hannah with two stacks.
I saw Will and Anderson Junior getting busy, very had
of him. I think there's a tell me tray if
there's something in there from Wheel, I want to see
here he is. Let me get this, uh Will Anderson number. Gordon,
you talk about people being afraid Will Anderson, Well, he
(01:10:09):
wants the opponents to be afraid. Let me hear Will
Anderson Jr.
Speaker 1 (01:10:12):
To please coming your way momentarily.
Speaker 3 (01:10:19):
All right, maybe we got a little freeze action going
with the technology. We'll get that up and run here
in a second, Gordon, the defensive front they graded out
all right for you. You got any issues with how
the front played, Yeah, I mean I would have liked
like maybe a little bit more pressure. The more pressure,
the most pressure.
Speaker 4 (01:10:40):
But then it felt like a lot of that came
later and then, but just some of those drives that
they sustained and put together, and they have a good
balance of run, running pass.
Speaker 3 (01:10:50):
Will Anderson he gets a sack, tackle for loss, hit
on the quarterback fumble recovery.
Speaker 1 (01:10:56):
How many total sacks on the day.
Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
Five d'anil gets to Tim Settle gets credited for one.
I mentioned Will, and then Jake Hanson he got in
there and got one as well. Ten past defense for
the Texans and six tackles for a loss. Two of
those again Daniel Hunter. I thought the defensive line was
(01:11:21):
again Jonathan Taylor. You know, it was a bit aggressive,
but Jonathan Taylor doing Jonathan Taylor things. Meaning I didn't
think Jonathan Taylor could run them to a victory yesterday
Joe Mixon did. Yeah, I didn't think because I think
they all want to back play the quarterback play I
thought was the difference in terms of those two guys.
But for whatever reason, they trust their quarterback, and I'm
(01:11:44):
glad we don't have that.
Speaker 1 (01:11:45):
Glad.
Speaker 3 (01:11:45):
I'm glad we have our guy, all right. Our dude
has been holding for a while. West side Joe.
Speaker 6 (01:11:50):
Floor, George, Okay, y'all already know I'm calling me in
on the Monday to get at you. Okay, okay, God,
and you hold on because I got something for you.
Speaker 23 (01:11:59):
And the way you go there says.
Speaker 6 (01:12:02):
You're the guy that are you? You you love getting
credited for being the man that either is right or
puts it out there. First, Well, let me tell you
what you're being.
Speaker 1 (01:12:12):
Last season.
Speaker 10 (01:12:12):
What you wanted to know was white.
Speaker 6 (01:12:14):
You wanted to see a healthy offensive line altogether. For
what they was putting out and how much they was
playing the investment on the offensive line. You wanted to
see it right.
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
That's true.
Speaker 14 (01:12:25):
Now that you're.
Speaker 6 (01:12:26):
Seeing it now, you can understand that that's gonna be
so far because this was the first year that they've
been put a whole offensive line together. The next thing
is Kender Green is not a pass blocker.
Speaker 10 (01:12:38):
He was a moldor.
Speaker 14 (01:12:39):
And why if you watch.
Speaker 6 (01:12:41):
Him in the one game or the boy's gonna get busy,
he gets busy.
Speaker 14 (01:12:45):
He doesn't get pushed.
Speaker 6 (01:12:46):
Back as far as the one game, but they'll throw
him out. He just his suait work is just not
there right off.
Speaker 14 (01:12:52):
And this is just what second year, one year that
he got hit off.
Speaker 6 (01:12:56):
He was trying to work on his help. The next
year they forced him into to play because of the
contract agreement.
Speaker 14 (01:13:03):
On what you just said.
Speaker 6 (01:13:04):
Nick wants to be right, sort of like staying a
little bit. But Stan, you're confused, and the listeners.
Speaker 2 (01:13:09):
Out here, Man, which way do you want?
Speaker 6 (01:13:10):
Man? And I'll hang up in the list.
Speaker 3 (01:13:12):
You know what west side, Joe, that is in a
stude observation for you. And since many of our listeners
are in and out over the course of a show,
I will remind you on our way to break it.
We'll pick this up on the other side. I'll take
wesleyand Lake Charles to start things off. Last year they
got a pass from me Gordon. They had the most
banged up offensive line in the league. There are metrics
(01:13:34):
that say the Texans offensive line last year missed more
starts and more plays by starters than anybody in the
history of the advanced metrics, going back nearly twenty years.
So I said, let me see the group together and
then I can have a fair evaluation. I've now seen
(01:13:55):
the group together. They don't work together consistently enough. This
is not Laramie Tonson's first rodeo, nor is it for
Tightus Howard, nor is it for Shack Mason. Kenyon Green
trying to get his feeding, trying to get his foot
up under him and get his footing. Thank you, I
get it injured last year, missed all of last year.
(01:14:17):
Get hisself together. They said his body was right. He
does look better, Okay, now we gotta go perform. Well
stand he's better at run blocking. Okay, that's cool. But
we got a quarterback right here that can also throw
us to a super Bowl as long as he has
a competent run game. So I'm gonna need you to
do both, Kenyon, or we're gonna have to find somewhere
for you to go. And then Juice Scruggs, he's learning
(01:14:39):
on the job. Okay, Juice, you played a lot of
football last year. My gout like, I'm gonna need you
to elevate your game. And if you are right there
next to a guy, a super Bowl champion like Shack Mason,
if you've got vets in the room like a Laramie
Tonsel and a tightess Howard like the excuse. I'm just
(01:15:01):
not there with these old line excuses. Now maybe I'm
alone in that thought, Gordy. I'll get some reaction from you.
Let's come back final segment before we get you over
to Ross and Matt Thomas.

Speaker 24 (01:15:26):
We just wanted to leave no doubts today, Like that
was a whole mess all week, Like we do the
dlon Keys the victory and that was like the first
one in bolt, Like leave no doubt, Like let everybody
know who the Texans D line is. Like when they
think about the Textans, they think about the D line.
So that's the mission that we want to get out there.
Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
Will Anderson Jr. Had himself a game Gordon. I had
a fumble recovery there the final play. Whatever the hell
Anthony Richardson was trying to accomplish on what could have
been a hel mary, but they couldn't get their stuff together.
End of the game operations, man, Like you have to
practice this stuff. Some teams can execute, some can't. Nonetheless,
(01:16:04):
Willanderson Jr. Says when people think about the Texans, he
wants it to be the defense. Gordon that comes to
mind first. I was very vocal about the defensive ends,
especially given how good they are. I'd say the first
quarter of the season, I was like, where y'all at.
I need to feel you impacting games. I get the
(01:16:27):
pressure percentage and you know, pass rush, win raate. I
get all of that, and there's a time for that,
but there's also a time for you to impact the game.
We are now seeing Gordon Danil Hunter, Will Anderson Jr.
The interior guys I think have been contributing given their
skill sets pretty consistently. Those perimeter guys, I needed to
(01:16:49):
see some more, and I think we're now seeing guys
get in the group.
Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
Go ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:16:52):
Texans are third in the league in sacks. The Giants
are won, and they still play game tonight they go
to Night Versus. Add to that total, Broncos are second
with thirty, Texans third or twenty seven ahead of the Ravens,
the Vikings, the Jets.
Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
It's good company. Do you think teams fear the Texans front?
Remember we used to talk about the Giants front, Polsa,
hu Manjora and Justin Tugg.
Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
I mean, I think you got a game plan them,
but I don't think they're in fear territory.
Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
Yet They're damn good. They're good.
Speaker 3 (01:17:24):
I just need them to be effective, right, And when
you start talking about and it's clear that every game
we come back and we look at the defensive tape,
and it is clear Demiko is more comfortable running pressures
and blitzes this year than any other year that I
recall or have seen data on him doing. So he's
(01:17:45):
dialing it up. And I think part of the reason
he's dialing it up is because he has confidence in
those dudes back there. Starting with Derek Stingley Jr. Speaking
of sting let's go to Lake Charles, let's get wes
Ley in here as we wrap up today's conversation on
Houston Texans. Wesley floors, Yeah, I'm doing well. Thank you,
(01:18:06):
I'm good.
Speaker 23 (01:18:07):
Yeah, ask God a quick question before get I get
to my question. That's just you know that Jonathan Taylor,
he's pretty awesome. I didn't really saw good that guy was,
but uh.
Speaker 1 (01:18:14):
Oh yeah he's a dude. Yeah he's right, no question.
Speaker 23 (01:18:18):
Yeah, But my question is this stand if dere extingly,
if he was up now, like you know, for his
fifth year option and everything and extension, would you do it?
Because my question is this, like to me, he just
doesn't look like a like where where he was picked. Uh,
it seems like you know he he gets burnt more
than he should. And now I'm just curious about would
(01:18:41):
you I know it's not this year, but like if you,
if this was the year to extend him, would you
do it?
Speaker 10 (01:18:47):
And uh what what?
Speaker 1 (01:18:49):
What would you be worth the investment?
Speaker 23 (01:18:50):
Because I say no, I mean, I mean, you know
you knowre not no stands.
Speaker 3 (01:18:55):
Yeah, I appreciate you saying and you're entitled to your opinion.
I try and often informed opinion. But y'all know how
we work on next up. I don't tell you what
to think. I just tell you what I think. Would
I extend Derek Stingley Jr. Yes, he's your best car.
He's clearly your best corner. I know a lot of
people like to have the sauce guard in the conversation.
I could really care less about that. I personally do.
(01:19:18):
I have a guy out there that has proven you
can go put me on the number one receivers in
this league and I'm going to hold my own and
win my fair share of those battles and get my
pound of flesh. I watched Derek Stingley Jr. After Demiko
was very coy and told us, gord It, we don't tie. Yeah,
we stick to your side. We don't travel with number
(01:19:40):
one receivers. I saw Derek Stingley Jr. Embrace of Mark Cooper,
still one of the best route runners in this league,
and he completely erased a Mark Cooper from a playoff game.
Speaker 1 (01:19:51):
Now I saw that.
Speaker 3 (01:19:53):
That was one of those moments I was like, Okay,
I would resign sting Would I give him top of
the march I get corner money? Would I be giving
him certain money? I probably would not. I would hope
to get something done, Shy of certain, but still something
that rewards there extangly for being as good as he is.
Speaker 1 (01:20:12):
Go down.
Speaker 4 (01:20:12):
I know you got some bias, but what you got
on staying Yeah, nuts, he's the best. He's your best
cover corner. He's I always think he's underrated at times.
Has he given up a pass player two here and there? Yeah,
but that's no. The best corners dude from time to time.
So it's overall his place has been fantastic. Yes, you're
gonna extend him. By the way, we got a quick
trade that just went down in the NFL and rapaport
(01:20:34):
the New New England Patriots are trading pass Rusher Joshua.
Speaker 1 (01:20:39):
Yes, two don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:20:42):
The Kansas City Chiefs, God the Rich, get Richer, Bret
Veach Monster.
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
Okay, before before we wrap Gordy Saturday Football, you were
up in College Station LSU at A and M I
was at preview and having a good time. Bit distracted
by the festivities. Very good homecoming. Underrated my first time
up there for that. Nonetheless, since we both went up
to ninety, I was streaming some stuff on the phone. Uh,
(01:21:10):
you're buy you Bengals at Coyle Field, Elko gets the
better of Kelly.
Speaker 1 (01:21:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:21:15):
Fantastic first half for LSU. Offensively, defensively, stopped the count.
Game was over seventeen to seven. I was just ending
there two halves.
Speaker 1 (01:21:22):
I turned the game. I walked away.
Speaker 3 (01:21:25):
Oh, you and Dan Matthews had to sit through whatever
it was.
Speaker 4 (01:21:29):
Brian Kelly Man, When you got your chance to put
your foot and the opponent's throat in their stadium on
the road, you do it. He didn't left the door open.
Aggie's Mike Oco makes a quarterback change. It worked out,
but Aggie's I'm a little war like you gotta take
you got a decision to make now moving forward? You
go back to Wegman. Do you stick with Marcel Reid?
(01:21:49):
Be interested to see what they do?
Speaker 1 (01:21:50):
Don't know?
Speaker 3 (01:21:51):
My eyes are certainly my ears. I was switching gears.
I was getting dressed, coming off of the PV homecoming,
getting ready for a dinner SAT Night. Some very good
people over there state before. They took great care of
me here in the River Oaks area. Number five, Texas
on the road, a trap game, Gordon, you said, watch
out for Vandy the University of Texas at Austin. Two
(01:22:12):
interceptions late in that game with a three point win.
Anything else? Alabama destroyed a twenty first ranked Missouri in Tuscaloosa,
thirty four zip. I don't know that I saw anything else.
Old Miss and Oklahoma was a game for a little while.
Old Miss wins twenty six fourteen Oklahoma unranked. What else
(01:22:35):
did I see? Not a great slate in college football?
It was a more predictable weekend. How dare ra I
cannot sign off without giving Willie Fritz congratulation to you
and unranked. But good Utah, you team comes here to Houston,
I said, good. When UH gets a dub seventeen fourteen, congratulations,
to coach Fritz his signature win here in his maiden
(01:22:57):
voyage in the h all right, uh oh my bad,
Tony and Nukny fifteen seconds say Somethingody lsu.
Speaker 14 (01:23:05):
I wish I could. We're ever gonna win more than
nine games with Kelly. Kelly. Kelly doesn't have a clue.
What the hell's going on? You look at the mother
sideline and compare to other coaches, he looks like he's
trying to find his butthole half the time. Why can't
Why can't we get a good coach?
Speaker 4 (01:23:23):
He's a good coach. You lost, You lost in a
tough road environment. All right, we guys won. Guys have
won three hundred and ten games in his career. Stop
acting like you lose a game and the guy can't coach.
Speaker 10 (01:23:34):
Come on.
Speaker 3 (01:23:35):
Also on Sunday, on Saturday Night, excuse me? He San
Antonio Rockets come up short in regulation by three. They
lose one O six, one O nine, San Antonio. Jalen
Green was the leading scorer. James Green had led this
team in scoring each of the three games. Rockets at
one and two on the season. They resume action tonight
here on kV and ME, still in San Antonio. All right,
(01:23:56):
that'll do it for us. We get out the way.
Here comes Matt Thomas and Ross for Trey Walker, who's
in for Connor. There's Chris Gordy stan Fleet and all
of you, yes, you Houston, who allow us to maintain
our status as your home for Houston Sports. Enjoy this
