The Houston Texans extended their lead atop the AFC South with a victory over the division rival Indianapolis Colts, but it was not pretty. Following a road loss to the Green Bay Packers and C.J. Stroud's career-worst passing performance, the Texans returned to NRG Stadium and defeated the Colts 23-20. Joe Mixon was the highlight of the offense, rushing for 102 and a touchdown. However, the offensive line continued to struggle, allowing two sacks and nine quarterback hits. Left guard Kenyon Green was benched in the first quarter after giving up a sack and was replaced by Jarrett Patterson. Green reentered the game after Patterson suffered a concussion but still allowed seven pressures. KPRC reporter Aaron Wilson joins Next Up to partake in Second Take Tuesday and preview how the offensive line will look heading into MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. "I would not be surprised at all if there is change at one position, which is the left guard," Wilson said. The wide receiver group has become another concern after Stefon Diggs left the field in the third quarter with a non-contact knee injury. With Nico Collins still out another week, Tank Dell will become the primary receiver. The Texans have depth at the position, and Stroud will have to "spread the ball around," which could be beneficial to an underperforming offense.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's go to the guest line now, welcoming in our
Texans insider here at seven ninety the great Aaron Wilson.
He was over at NRG in the press box looking
quite dapper per usual. Excuse me on Sunday and Aaron,
good morning to you. Appreciate you taking some time out
with Gordon and out here. On next up, let's dive
right into it. You were there with Domiko yesterday afternoon

(00:22):
as he took to the podium and he says, nothing
to see here officive line, just fine. I don't believe him.
The tape doesn't say that to me or anyone else
that I trust to comment on football. What's going on
inside the building? How do they feel about this old line?
Kenyan Green included.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Right, Keny Green included, they are disappointed, just it doesn't
do a lot of good to bash on their own
players at the you know, podium as you reference. You know,
it's kind of what do you say publicly and what
do you say privately? So probably you know they're constructive,
if not just you know, a you know, yelling at guys.
It's more just trying to get the best out of

(01:03):
them and coach, which is teaching, And so you're in
coaching and teaching, you're only as good as how do you,
you know, adapt to your slowest learners. How do you
get those guys to come along to the rest of
the class. You know, so you know, there's a different
grade when it comes to a Laramie Kumsul who's pro
Bowl and high graded and twenty five million a year

(01:26):
versus a second year guy, third year guy. And what
you have there is you have a lot of inexperience
next to each other in juice drugs and Kenyan Green
and Kenyon is the lowest graded lineman according to analytics
and the film. And you you know, don't have to
be a coach or a scout to be able to see,
you know, he's being beaten. He's saying, he's acknowledging his errors,

(01:48):
that he is being beat and he's not playing well.
And if they had to do something, they took him out.
He would have stayed out, But Jared Patterson gave himself
a concussion falling in to EJ. Speed and me. So
then they decided it was better to go back to
Green than switch to KINDERD. Green. Will that change? I

(02:10):
believe it very much. Strong possibility it will, but what
you say publicly on a Monday be a lot different.
There's gamesmanship, there's strategy. So we'll see how they progress
throughout the week and who lines up at MetLife Stadium.
But no, I would not be surprised at all if
there is change at one position, the left guard. But yeah,

(02:32):
I don't see anyone else changing. So you know, your
line is your line, and for the most part it'll
be intact, is my expectation. So we'll see what decisions
they make. But yeah, I would have no surprise at all.
And I've heard it's the spiry strong possibility of a change,

(02:53):
and the change would be to Kindred Green, So we'll
see if they actually carry that out. That is still developing.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Yeah, and certainly I think most fans are kind of saying, like, look,
let's let's try something else there. I thought it wasn't
a ton of reps. But I thought Patterson played pretty
well there. Obviously, I assume he's in concussion protocol and
not going to play this week, but right, but when
he comes back, I mean I would absolutely plug him
back in their left guard. I mean, I thought, would
you make I thought the reps he played was pretty well.

(03:21):
Joe Mixon scored a touchdown on it.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Gentlemen, let me jump in here real quick before you go, Aaron,
if I could just real quick go to what you said.
The PFF grades are in. Jared Pattison graded the second
highest of the offense behind Laramy Tunzel. He came in
at eighty one point forward to Jared Patterson for the
ten snaps that he was out there, and we know,
uh mad Man mixing got an the end zone on

(03:44):
that drive. I'm sorry, go ahead and are.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Right. Small sample size, but effective. We've always said this
was Jared Patterson. Very tightly sound, gritty guy technician and
someone that has decent length, like his extension. I think
he's a better center, more of a natural center, but
has that capability. He's played all three positions in college, tackle, guard,

(04:08):
and center, So some things I like about Jared. And
you know, you guys know the notere to name offensive
lineman come out very ready. That's one thing you can say.
You know, look at Blake Fisher. Blake Fisher is a
pretty you know he is he ready to plug in
and beat out Titus Howard and Larry Huntsy. Yet no,
he's not but is he a polished rookie. Yeah, and

(04:29):
that's what Jared Patterson is too, and that's what's their
credit to the coaching can get up there with the
fighting Irish program. Good offensive lineman, and yeah, Patterson, he's
pretty sound. Kinder Green is a little bit different element.
He's a dockier, maybe more powerful athlete. They can do
some pulling and help you on some the slide protections.

(04:50):
And he has run a four eight five. He told
me it's just four eighty eight on his Wikipedia four
eight five or through fifteen. They think he's enough of
an athlete obviously that he played fullback in the Patriots game.
So an interesting guard, I would say. Patterson not an athletic,
but maybe good technique. Kindergreen. I'll get you to push

(05:11):
a stop here, a little bit lower to the ground guy.
And the only thing with him is he was playing
great last season at one game, after struggling a little
bit in his first couple of games. But he's got it.
He wears a giant knee brace. He had the meniscus
surgery and sometimes the need will bother him. He's not
an injury report for that, but it's kind of like
a long term durability deal. So yeah, those are things

(05:34):
to consider, but for now he's your only other option.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Talk with Aaron Wilson, our Texans Insider here on next
up with Fleeting Gordon as we get ready for a
short week first time CJ. Stroud is playing on Thursday
night Primetime. Know you go to MetLife, there's Aaron Rodgers
and as we look at the injury report and we've
been monitoring what you have to say. I've mentioned we've

(05:59):
reference your report yesterday or the day before one or
the two, Gordon, what can you tell us Steph Diggs,
do you think this is as bad as feared in
terms of Steph Diggs c's that may be done.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yes, I think that it's very grave. There's a lot
of concern and they're getting second opinions and they've done
the MRI. They've been very hush hush about it. And
that's not that surprising, right given the organization and the
high profile of the player. So there are guys within
the organization, whether it might be players, et cetera, that

(06:37):
aren't privy to the exact diagnosis of Stefon. Digg's the
initial diagnosis and you know, talking to doctors that are
outside of the organization. Yeah, they believe it's like ninety
five percent sure that it's an ACL. There's a small
chance that if he has just torn his meniscus that
if you don't get surgery, could you play again with

(06:58):
rest and rehab. Yes, but that is really a I
would say a Rosie picture. More likely is you know,
worst case, and that means season ending. Obviously, he won't
play against the Jets, as they've for evidenced by he
couldn't have practiced, is or that he will not practice today,
And you know, it's very likely we don't see him

(07:19):
for a very long time. He's a free agent, so
future way up in the air. But yeah, no one's
saying anything really on the record at all. And then
you obviously with Nico, Ryan's kind of a non update
update yesterday and I asked him about Stefan that they're
still working through the testing, the results and evaluating, so
we'll see. I mean, it's a big decision. Remember Rashie

(07:41):
writes how that played out for a while before they
finally came to a conclusion. And I wouldn't be surprised
if this is one of those deals.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Is after this week, it sounds like Nico Collins will
be back next week, right.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Right, that's my report. And yeah, the Nico is on
track to in the Detroit game. Deactivated that week, and
you know it was always forecast as a three to
four week. Once they got the MRI, it was initially
like it was optimism from him. I could come back
very soon. Didn't feel that bad. It's in the middle
of the hamstrings, a little higher than the you know,

(08:16):
some of these hamstring strains which you can play through,
which went it's the bottom hamstring muscle. But it's in
the middle and he's running twenty miles per hour, so
he's already you know, probably would cut it all, I
guess to the higher speed if you know he's running
away for a touchdown. But yeah, he's he should be fine,
and that's the good news. And remember last year, I mean, CG.

(08:40):
Shrump hass were four thousand yards plus with Nico Collins,
Tank Dale. They eventually lost Tank now and they just
threw to Niko and some to Daldon Saltz and other guys.
But I think this will test him as a quarterback
because he's gonna have to distribute the football as he
did pretty well, once Biggs went down, but that's what
he's going to be more of it. I think it

(09:01):
eventually could be good for the offense to spread the
ball around. Never good to lose the digs. But it's
you know, you look around. I think on the street,
is there a lot out there? Not really? I mean
most guys are viewed is either damaged goods or washed.
You know, there's the Michael Thomas is the hunter. Renfros
of Jarvis Landrys. Try to trade for someone, sure that

(09:24):
he'll Nick Casterio, he'll be able to explore those sort
of things. Look into it, no idea if he'll you know,
pull the trigger. We are close to the trade downline.
November fifth, Deancy Johnson is definitely available and Tregrek morn
is available. Are those guys actually better than what you
already have in the building that know the plays and
can do it? I thought you give Xavier Hutchinson more

(09:47):
chances and that was a great nineteen yard diving catch.
It needs more targets. Robert woods Bill can catch the ball,
still good at pun returns. They have guys and when
John Metchi the third top passes. Nothing wrong with the
tight ends. I just would say you have to be
kind of spread them all around, and then once you
have Nico seed Nico. Now Thursday will be interesting because

(10:10):
hang Dell be your number one receiver out there against
Sauce Gardner. And you know, see Sauce doesn't usually travel
with the receiver. He doesn't do that till the red zone.
But he just normally lines up on the right side.
So we'll see how much they match up. How does
Tank do? A big opportunity for Tank, they kind of
show the nation ye what he can do.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
But came on had his best game of the season
on Sunday as well. Yeah, a dob, I'm up against it, man,
but you know, we'll send the people over to you.
