Speaker 7 (00:19):
Let's see what's next next.
Speaker 8 (00:23):
I love the Shawn Salisbury hold over from the Shawn
Salisbury Show. Here inside the seven ninety studios nestled in
between Uptown Park and River Oaks. This is next Up
for the next two hours, thanks to Shawn Salisbury, our
resident quarterback. That's Dan Matthews, Ian for Brian Lilima and
Emanual doing a great job on the board for that crew.
We wake up each and every weekday morning, starting at
(00:44):
six o'clock with that bunch. Who I got with me?
There's Gordy, He's got some lsu get your own big surprise.
There's Connedy McGovern on the other side of the glass there.
Appreciate the contributions for both of those. If you knew
to the station, new to the show or returning, welcome, Hello,
We appreciate you coming back. What a stand sports man mean?
You can follow him at Chris Gordon, We're one day
(01:05):
closer to the Texans Born and a plane and going
up to a seven degree seventy degree lambeau Field gentlemen,
where the Texans will find out who has the better,
better young signal caller. Is it our very own Cole Ridge,
Bernard Stroud the four or is it a guy that
(01:25):
they really like up in Green Bay. He goes by
the name of Jordan Love. He has signed Here's what
two hundred and fifty SOMEI million or whatever he got
his contract extension. Given he's just a little bit older
than CJ injury reporters out, what does that mean? Who
will likely or unlikely to take the field in Green
Bay on Sunday. We will delve into that. No, Nico Collins,
(01:49):
we know that so offensive output. Gordi has been saying
that they're gonna have to go play some offense. We'll
see what that looks like based on who's on the
practice fielder, who's not.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
More player movement in the.
Speaker 8 (02:02):
National Football League, including a particular gentleman speaking of the
Bayou Bengals in the AFC South Rockets in action tonight
for the final preseason game that's over at Toyota Center.
Victor wimber Yam and the Spurs are here. Not sure
if Wimby is going to play, but nonetheless that is
on the slate. Dusty Baker is in the news, gentleman,
(02:23):
as he opened up and had some things to say
about his tenure and departure from the Houston Astros organization. Obviously,
a college football gets going tonight, as well as Week
seven where the Saints are home dogs to bow Nicks,
Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos coming up in that piece,
So we'll unpack a lot of Oh, Voice of the Longhorns.
(02:43):
Craig Wade's gonna drop by in about twenty six minutes,
Longhorns number one in the land versus the University of
Georgia out of the SEC, and we'll see if the
Horns are indeed for real. Gordy has some statistics and
some analytics that he would like to offer. We'll talk
someee football as well with that, gentleman, Good morning, and
(03:04):
how's everybody feeling a little chilly out going to you?
Got on sleeves, I got on sleeves, everybody.
Speaker 9 (03:09):
Good.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Connor enjoy wall.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
It's here because it's supposed to the eighties like the
next week. Even in the next week, I'm like, oh, clearly,
the next Colt front comes through next week. No, it'll
be hot and humid again, all right, so it will
be a little warmer.
Speaker 8 (03:24):
And thank you to the scheduling god that did not
put this Texans.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
At Green Bay game.
Speaker 8 (03:30):
And you know, a month from now and certainly you
start getting into December gets quite frigid in Lambeau Field
a place, mind you where? Well, let's see, the Texans
have played the Packers five times, Packers on the four
to one advantage. Matt shab in twenty eighteen went up
into Lambeau got a last second field goal by who's
(03:54):
that Chris Shoot? I can't remember Chris's name, now y'all
know the kick I'm talking about. Nonetheless, they go up
here there. Good news, Aaron Rodgers doesn't play there any more.
Bad news they still have a guy in Jordan Love
that is working his way back from a knee injury,
and it's certainly capable of creating a nightmare for that bunch.
Do I say twenty eighteen? I me in two thousand
(04:15):
and eight, and you said, Chris Brown, thank you?
Speaker 1 (04:17):
All right? Kevin Walter, big day that day, did have
a big day that day, all right?
Speaker 8 (04:22):
So the Texans the last time they went up there
twenty sixteen, got beat? Where's that twenty one thirteen?
Speaker 1 (04:32):
All right?
Speaker 8 (04:32):
Got nothing to do with Demiko and CJ. We'll hear
from Demico here just a little bit. As he addressed
the media, he and CJ bow yesterday after practice. Can
I start with Demiko? Just as I continue to unpack
this game in my head, guys, I was reminded in
doing my homework. Domico was defensive coordinator for the San
(04:53):
Francisco forty nine ers when the Niners went into Green
Bay in a division around and a playoff game, and
he held Laflora's offense, led by Aaron Rodgers, to ten points.
I do believe the Niners won that game thirteen to
ten in frigid conditions. Of course, that gives me some
confidence that Demko coaches tendencies all the thing. Who's the
(05:16):
new defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers? And by
the way, the Packers have been excellent on defense this
year largely because of taking away the football. The Packers,
what did I see this, Gordion? The Packers are fourth
in the league in point differential, number one in takeaways
are then green Bay Jeff Hafley, former head coach at
(05:37):
Boston College. I got on his ass last year for
cowning out and leaving Boston College as a head coach
to go be a damn coordinator league. Nonetheless, he's there.
Where does he come from? He comes from San Francisco.
Huh funny Bobby slog at. Demko probably know the formations
and the schemes that he wants to deploy coaching, Gordy,
(05:58):
I start here, is going to be the difference in
the game on Sunday?
Speaker 1 (06:03):
You mind?
Speaker 10 (06:05):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (06:06):
No, I think it's. I think it's gonna be the players.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
I don't I don't know if I don't know if
it's necessarily the Texans will win or lose this game
because of coaching. I think the players gotta go execute.
The offense's gotta go do their thing. Yeah, I mean
there will be times a third and one and you
or fourth in inches and you line it up and
you get stuffed. Yeah, I mean those are those are
coaching decisions, and those He's.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Got to be creative at times.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
But I just I think this is a game where
you you it's good on good and the players gotta
go execute. If the if the Texans defense can force
a turnover to that'll be huge.
Speaker 6 (06:40):
You know.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
CJ takes care of the football, don't turn the ball over.
Joe Mixon runs it effectively. They're gonna be in this game.
They're gonna have a chance to win. But it's funny.
I've been reading some of the some of the predictions
out there staying a lot of people picking the Packers.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
They just think at home, it's gonna be Green Bay.
Speaker 8 (06:55):
Packers still remain in two and a half point favorite
according to at least ESPN. Bit is where I start.
I have not seen the other I have not seen
the other betting houses. Okay, coaching is a big deal
for me in a game like this, where the Texans
are in their own weight class. You want to get
(07:17):
to the top of the mountain. These are the caliber
of teams and wins that you need.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
But what's that down? What do you mean defind coaching?
What was the.
Speaker 8 (07:26):
Difference in the Divisional round last year? NRG we walld there,
Domiko CJ income the Cleveland Browns. What was the difference?
Stefanski is a good coach on the other sideline, he
got the award. What was the difference in the game.
What really turned the game on its head, Domiko told
Christian Harris, when they go to that formation and they
(07:49):
run that route, if you stand right there, you jump
the route, you're gonna score. Kaboom, Christian Harris pick six touchdown.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Coaching.
Speaker 8 (07:57):
We also said in that ballgame, that's probably the divisional
game versus Cleveland last year was probably the best play
calling I'd ever seen from Bobby Sloyd till then and
since then, that's probably the best Slowyck was coaching in
games where the talent is relatively equal, is the difference.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
But we can also say the clock struck midnight on
the pumpkin. That was Joe Flacco like, and Demiko helped
do that. Yeah, but they couldn't run the football either.
You know, again, that's players a.
Speaker 8 (08:28):
Team that had previously beat them in the regular season
in Cleveland, and so it's a and when you play
twice in the same season, it's always advantaged the other team,
the team that lost the second time around, because you
can learn from your mistakes. I don't know about that,
but go ahead, I'm saying you. I just think I
think it's I just think it's it's players. See, you
just got to go execute. Mixon's got to run the football.
A lion's got to block. They gotta go do their thing.
(08:49):
I am, and this leads us as we transition into
the next segment. Let me hear this because I'm just
seeing this and I want to get this in. Let
me hear Demiko. I referenced Jeff Halfley to pack defensive coordinator.
Packers are excellent again taking away the football. Xavier McKenny
back there with Jaya Alexander. What's fun about Jaya Alexander
Gordy Not only that he hails from Charlotte, North Carolina,
(09:12):
playing is collegiate ball in the ACC at the University
of Louisville prior to being a first round pick. He
has some my old feelings to rekindle going against one
Stefan Diggs from Diggs days in Minnesota. He knows Stefan,
Stefan knows him. Diggs has got to be wide receiver
one for this team in Nico's absence. That's a matchup
(09:34):
that would be critical for me. The other thing is
they've got some young wide receivers that like to move around.
Who's gonna guard Romeo Dobbs, Who's gonna guard read They've
got dudes that create mismatches for a banged up Texans secondary.
Makes me nervous again, Domiko, can you counter the moves
(09:55):
by ya Matt Lafleur offense or head coach and play
caller for Green Bay. I mentioned Jeff Hapley. Demico was
asked about that yesterday. Then we'll come back and talk
about the injury report. Demko, we're seeing this new defensive
coordinating Green Bay.
Speaker 11 (10:10):
I think the Packers have been good at taking the
football away, starting with their their defensive coordinator change and
Jeff Hafley coming over. And I know his emphasis from
being with him. His emphasis always on the ball creating
negative plays. That's what that's what he truly believes in.
And you see, you know his imprint on his defense instantly.
(10:31):
He got really good players. Mckennye, Alexander guys. They attack
the football the right way and that's helped them win
football games. And the ball is the most important thing,
Like you can take it away and give the offense
a short feeld like it really helps you, all.
Speaker 8 (10:47):
Right, Demiko Ryans on what they can expect from Green
Bay's defense.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
What's wild is the numbers, Like Okay, they lead the
league in takeaways, but they also they give it away.
They given away eight times as well, So it seems
like when you play the Packers it's gonna be if turnover.
Speaker 8 (11:06):
Fest on both sides. No, Packers are number one in
the league in turnover margin. They give it away because
of the quarterback. Yeah, but they take it away more
than their guy gives it away.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Right, nine interceptions. They third six interceptions. The Packers defense
has nine interceptions, but they also have the eight fumbles.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
That they've recovered.
Speaker 8 (11:25):
Xavier mckinnion leading the NFL as a safety there for
the Green Bay Packers come back on the other side,
Will Katina and from Dmico injury reporter is out? Is
it as bad as I thought it would be? More
to come? Next up? Getting started on Thursday. Let's kick
off week seven Sports Talk seven nine.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
With your non next up Pitchers tremble with.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Fear, others of the Coffree run over with Northfleeton Gordyon.
Next up, Bellies tremble with hunger.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Lunchtime is so close Joe had shout down on more
next time.
Speaker 11 (12:10):
Matt's a really really good coach, really bright coach. He
does a really good job of just creating a lot
of chaos when it comes to the pre snap, and
that's where I think they gained standing a huge advantage.
You talk about the motions, the snap points, and just
being able to have many various plays, whether it's a
run game or in the passing game. Just he really
(12:32):
makes you work as a defense to communicate pre snap,
makes you work post snap to really know who you're
matching and coverage. So it's a very difficult offense right
to defend because of so much moving and Matt has
done a good job with that. You know, his entire careers,
Matt has been the head coach there in Green Bay.
He's at the top offense. Those guys been in the playoffs,
(12:54):
so it's a credit to him and the work that
he's done.
Speaker 8 (12:58):
Jamiko Ryans complimentary of head coach of the Green Bay Packers.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Matt Laflour hadn't made the big game, but he.
Speaker 8 (13:05):
Has been in the conference championship a time, maybe two
if memory serves correct. They seem to have always run
up against Robert Sala's defense or Demiko Ryans defense, and
they couldn't get past San Francisco. Ultimately, Aaron Rodgers has
enough and he's out of Green Bay. Thankfully Rodgers doesn't
play there anymore. We'll deal with his Jets later in
the season. Here in the Houston, Welcome back. In the
(13:27):
next up Fleet Gordon Connor, everybody's all here. I am
fascinated by the coaching matchups here and I think that
indeed will be the difference. You get Demiko Ryans, an
experienced play caller, obviously head coach, going up against another
experience offensive play caller in Matt Laflour, obviously a good
head coach.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
And then on the flip side, you get some young guns.
Speaker 8 (13:49):
Jeff Hafley, first year defensive coordinator for the pack He's
got tools to work with. Go look at that Packers
defense when you get a chance. You won't really recognize
a ton of names, but go look at the schools
and the rounds. These dudes were taking front literally of
their starting twenty two Other than like, they got like
maybe three or four free agents, and even the free
(14:11):
agents can ball like Preston Smith. Everybody else is a
first or second round pick. It's unbelievable what they've been
able to do. Who's our GM over there in that
old Gudacoots Google Coots is getting it done stacking up
my man Nick Wilson, my radio partner seant it is
Brian Gutacootz.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Packers.
Speaker 8 (14:30):
I know, I know I can't say it, but but
the fact that you wouldn't tell me I don't know
how to sign I've ask no way. They build a
good roster g U t E k U n S
t Okay special teams at vantage. And we'll talk about
special teams in the Packers because they made a decision
(14:51):
and bring somebody into their organization that is creating some
blurbs there in the uh NFL wire and throughout the
scuttle butt in the league. Controversial signing for the Green
Bay Packers, as it pertains the special teams.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
We'll get to all of that part.
Speaker 8 (15:09):
Let's delve into the thing that was most concerning for me,
And this came out late yesterday afternoon, gord after we
were long gone from this show. Injury report is out, ConA.
I want to hear from Dimiko on these injuries. If
I could, I believe I heard him say something yesterday.
I know you'll get that cue up for me, all right,
Who did not practice, Gordy as expected by me? Aziz
(15:33):
al Shayer news to me, Follo for the Kassi on
fold for the Cosi rather no surprise to any of us.
Kamari lassiter our very own. Aaron Wilson reported as such.
Henry told told concussion protocol, no surprise to me. Jimmy
Ward dealing with a groin, no surprise to me. And
Robert Woods dealing with a foot. He's been dealing with
(15:55):
that foot, kind of nursing that along the way. So
those are the five that did not practice. Excuse me.
Six that did not practice limited Joe Mixon in that ankle,
Larimy Tunzel and his ankle. Can't believe tuns of practice,
my bad lt I thought you would sit down one
out private to see you get out on the field
and then reserve linebackers, special teamer deal Sean Phillips practiced.
(16:16):
So six for the Texans. Of those that did not practice,
Gordon and let me set it up this way. A
Zi's starter, Camari starter, told told starter, Jimmy Warts starter,
Mario Edwards Junior suspended. Christian Harris would be a starter,
but we haven't seen him all year. So that's five
defensive starters that had played this year. That's going to
(16:39):
Green Bay to play against that quarterback and those weapons.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Yes, I'm nervous. Yeah you should be.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
You're pulling a good team and you're down a lot
of bodies, so yeah, you pull a rabbit out of
the hat.
Speaker 8 (16:51):
I am concerned speaking of those linebackers. That's an area
that I said, listen, can anything happen in pro sports?
Of course, at the same time, we got to look
at the tendencies, the ratios, the likelihoods. The way the
Packers play. They keep you off balanced by running Josh
Jacobs more conversation about him coming, and then they play
(17:14):
action off of that. They spread the field sometime they
send Josh Jacobs out to run routes. All the things like,
they keep you guessing, and it's going to put these
linebackers if indeed disease and to Toad can't go. Demiko
was asked yesterday, Demiko, if Neville, Hewett and Jake Hanson
got to go, what does that look like for you?
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Demiko?
Speaker 11 (17:36):
Four, Neville and Jacob they've been here with us for
a while. They've gotten a lot of reps, they've done.
They know what they know how we play. They know
you know what to expect. They know how to communicate,
so it's nothing new to them if they have to
go out and get snaps. Feel confident in those guys
being able to step up and help us.
Speaker 8 (17:55):
Demiko on the Packers play Action game that I mentioned
moments ago.
Speaker 11 (17:58):
They have really good you know, on the on the perimeter,
they have speed, They have guys wh can go up
and attack the football and come down with it. And
the quarterback is able to buy even more time when
you have the play action in the front has done
a great job protecting it, but the quarterback is able
to buy even more time to allow those deep shots
to get down the field, so the ball will be up.
It's just a matter of you know, who's making the play, Like,
(18:21):
can we defensively come down with some of those plays?
That'll be a challenge the entire game, all.
Speaker 8 (18:26):
Right, Demiko on the play Action game and Gordyll for
the people that didn't hear how we started our Packers evaluation.
You are leaning more on CJ. Stroud and that offense
as opposed to the reigning AFC Defensive Player of the
Week from Week six.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Will at us in that defense unless you think you're
gonna win a nineteen fourteen type game.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
You know, unless you think there's really gonna be a
defensive slobber docker than fine. I just think I think
the offense gouty goes score points. Because you look at
the four wins the Packers have. They held their opponents
to ten fourteen nineteen thirteen. When the Packers win, they're
holding their opponent to twenty to less than twenty points.
They're two losses. They give up thirty four to thirty one.
(19:12):
I mean, it's as simple as this. The Texans scored thirty,
they're winning this game. I don't think they're gonna score
thirty one they get. If they get the thirty, they
wouldn't they'll win this. Say they score twenty nine. If
you score less than twenty, I don't think you're winning.
You're not winning this game seventeen to fourteen.
Speaker 8 (19:27):
So think about what you're saying against that defense with
all those dudes I just said, without Nico Collins, you're
asking an offense that predicated on the run game. In
giving the ball to Joe Mixon and Damian Pierce, you're
asking that run oriented offense to go on the road and.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Put up thirty I'm saying in the high twenties.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Where is a lot where CJ and CJ sixth and
total passing yards already this season?
Speaker 1 (19:56):
So I mean, now, where's Nico? Where's CJ?
Speaker 8 (19:59):
Without Nico on the field, he's under two hundred in
the one game we've seen. I mean, and again, I
don't want to make you scored forty one last week
without Nick k you did. Defense was a big reason
why taking the football away and so that's why I
come back and go defensively. Jordan Love has six interceptions
and four starts like you're going to have to take
(20:19):
the ball away that I don't know that they can
keep up with Jordan Love and the Green Bay Pack
in a shootout. So Demiko, you gotta go steal a possession,
whether it be on defense or.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Here's my problem is is this team has bogged down.
You know, they they have a ton of like I said,
she's just got six most passing yards you know how
mean he touchdowns?
Speaker 1 (20:39):
He has ten?
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Like they've settled for too many field goals. So even
if you get those takeaways you're talking about, but you
only you settle for three every time we're talking another
possible Kymie Fairburn player of the week because you can't
execute go score touchdowns.
Speaker 8 (20:53):
I remind you that both times Kami fanbaron one special
Team of the Week in a see, the Texans won
both those games.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
I mean, I'll take it.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
They a bunch of field goals, but I'm just saying,
you gotta go get some points on the board. It's crazy.
He's got that many yards. And you look around. Baker
Mayfield's got fifteen touchdowns, Joe Burrow's got twelve touchdowns, Jordan
Loves got twelve touchdowns.
Speaker 8 (21:17):
These are all more than CJ's touchdown total. We go
to break here. We'll talk to college game on the
other side with Craig Way Voice and the Horns there
in Austin on our sister station thirteen hundred the Zone.
I leave you with this nugget though.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
C J.
Speaker 8 (21:31):
Stroud has been sacked sixteen times in six games. That's
tied for fifth most in the league. The Green Bay
Packers or excuse me opponents, have sacked the Texans seventeen times.
They're pressuring the Texans at just over thirty seven percent.
That's five percent higher than the league average. The word
(21:53):
is out on the Texans. Pressure them, and you have
a chance. The pressure is coming. Jeff Hafley's gonna send
his guys Cannis offensive line in these backs, block it up,
keep CJ clean. The college game, we'll talk more coaching.
Steve Sarkejian's Horns are the website of college game Day.
They will have the nation's attention. Are the Horns for real?
(22:13):
On the other side, your home.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Of the Horns. Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 5 (22:15):
Ninety touchdown Texas coach Stark here, you're next up with
Stan Norfleet and Chris Gordy of Sports Talk seven ninety,
Houston's home of Longhorn football.
Speaker 9 (22:27):
Oh my goodness, welcome back to Sports Talk seven ninety,
your home of Longhorn football, and we're in for one
(22:47):
on Saturday.
Speaker 8 (22:48):
I'm stupid excited. I gotta do some volunteer work over
in Acer's homes courtesy of the good people at Tomac.
I'll be up there a Greater Commission Church doing some
volunteer work open to the public. Texans Astro's rockets coming out,
So if you want to pull up on me.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
I'll be over there. But I'm gonna be leaving.
Speaker 8 (23:04):
That site to get home in time to cut on
the screen as the number one team in the land
in Austin, where burnt Orange and White will welcome in
that black and red crew from down in Athens to
help us parse through how this action might go. Voice
of the Horns, courtesy of our sister station thirteen hundred
to Zone in Austin. Good morning, Craig Way, welcome back
(23:26):
in the next up my.
Speaker 6 (23:27):
Friend, Hey, Dandy Grace visits with you guys again.
Speaker 8 (23:31):
All right, So I was a little bit peeved that
we couldn't get you own last week because I thought,
it's bleeping Texas and OU in Dallas and they're both
in the SEC and it's the State Fair and it's
a big deal. But you made me feel good. You says, stay,
come down. The dogs are coming to coming to Athens. Lord,
the dogs are coming to Austin next Saturday. I got you, okay, Craig,
(23:53):
point spread has gone up in favor of the Horns.
Tell me why.
Speaker 6 (24:00):
I have no idea. And by the way, I did
mention to you last week when we were going to
I said, there's the chance that Texas O you could
wind up being merely the undercard. And it's kind of
turned out that way. And I would never think of
the Texas ou Red River rivalry game. As an undercard anything,
it has its own special style and significance, obviously, but
(24:23):
clearly coming off of that now it's the number five
team in the country, a perennial national power in Georgia.
And then of all weekends for this to be happening,
when you got the Formula one race going on as
well on Sunday, so it's F one mania also, So
it's it's crazy right here to your question, I think
(24:46):
you know, I'm I'm not the best authority on this,
but I've always been told that the boys in the
desert are setting those numbers to try to make sure
they get equal action on both sides of the line.
And maybe the original Texas line seemed a little bit
elevated for the wagerers, so they come back and put
put their wagers on the other side line. Maybe you know,
(25:08):
maybe that's the reason. I don't know, or it was
a little lower and then you know that sort of thing.
So not sure about that, but I do know this.
These are two really good football teams getting ready to
get it on.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
It's interesting Craig talking with people about this game this week.
I've asked people and look, Texas can only play who's
on their schedule. Schedules made, it's pre ordaining. You can't
do anything about it. But most people I say what's
Texas's best win, they say Michigan, And then I look
at the numbers and I see Michigan now have their
offense is ranked one nineteenth in the country, and obviously
Oklahoma's offense is putrid, and you know some of these
(25:41):
other teams. I started to look at it and go,
is you all Munroe their best win? They're five and one.
It's just an interesting angle of I think, hands down,
this will be the best offense and best quarterback they've
seen to this point this season.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
No, without question.
Speaker 6 (25:57):
And I think it'll be the best defense. Now, you know,
Michigan pretty solid defense, and Oklahoma has a pretty good
defense as well, but I think it'll be the best defense,
but easily the best offense they will have seen. With
Etn in the backfield, and in addition to Trevor Etn,
Carson Beck will easily be the best quarterback they will
(26:18):
have faced. And there's that championship aura that surrounds Georgia
and they know and to listen to Kirby Smart this week,
hearing him say we just haven't put a full game
together yet. And to think about that, I mean, was
the second half of that game against Alabama when they
spotted in the big lead and came back and actually
(26:38):
had the lead and a chance to win late. This
is still a really good Georgia team that they're going
to face. It's definitely the best team they will have
seen to this point.
Speaker 8 (26:46):
That's the voice of Craig Waite, play by play voice
for the Horns. You can catch them on social at
Horn Singular Horn voice again, our family there in Austin
thirteen hundred n all right, Quinn who does get Wally pipped,
He goes back into the starter, puts up a ton
of bleeping points. Any concern there from the faithful that
(27:07):
maybe they got distracted emotional win over ou or I
can't imagine sark is gonna have these boys not emotionally
ready to go when Georgia comes to town. But do
you get concerned when you have back to back weeks
and you're gonna need all your own emotion? What does
Davo say, bring your own guts those type of games.
Speaker 6 (27:25):
Yeah, I think it was. It's more about the physical
and mental grind that ensues playing these kinds of games
back to backstand and less about you know, not being
fought for a team or anything like that. I can't
get up for playing Georgia. Can You can't get up
and think about Oklahoma?
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (27:44):
Yeah, And folks did the same thing going into OU game. Well,
you know they're only ranked eighteenth.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
You know that doesn't matter.
Speaker 6 (27:51):
None of that stuff matters, And it didn't matter last Saturday,
and I don't think it'll matter this Saturday. But we
did say before the start of the year, this was
gonna be the best of the beast. This was going
to be the grind getting through this. And at the time,
at the time stand, we were talking about two games,
Texas OU and Texas Georgia. Oh, by the way, what's next,
vanderbil on the road, Alabama and Nashville. So the grind
(28:15):
will continue, and then they would have an open day
to buy week so they can find a way to
get through these next two weeks. Then I'm not going
to necessarily say it's a down. He'll run to Atlanta
and the SEC Championship, but they will have been passed
the most difficult part of their schedule.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Let's talk a little personnel here. Craig obviously, Kelvin Banks.
He's been fantastic. He's named SEC Offensive Lineman of the
Week there, but they do lose Derek Williams' safety for
the season, and he was really good at to pick
against Michigan, had to force fumble this past week against Oklahoma.
But it also sounds like Isaiah Bond he was banged up.
It sounds like he's gonna go. Is that what it
sounds like to you?
Speaker 6 (28:51):
He's been better and he's been getting a little bit
better as the week's gone. On Tuesday and yesterday where
the big you know, low in heavy days in terms
of the work, and he's been able to work. I
think they're still going to just kind of watch him
very carefully through the practice today and the walk through
tomorrow to see if he's ready to go. But I
would expect that he'll be ready to play.
Speaker 8 (29:14):
Craig rough Start, what he got sacked Dido is in
that what first drive? Maybe I think the first play
and then he throws the pick on his first pass.
Rough Start think he worked out the kinks us in
these big boy games. Is there any concern physically or
his resume and being ready to take advantage. You know
(29:35):
what Kirby's gonna do defensively with his dogs.
Speaker 6 (29:39):
Well, I think his resume shows he's pretty good in
these big games at Alabama last year and and uh
obviously in the big CULP championship game. It's a big game,
and and I think Quinn Ewers is going to be
fine on those kinds of things. They it was a
little bit sluggish last week, and Quinn, by his own admission,
said he didn't play his best protection on one play
(30:01):
and then they had a couple of receivers have a
difficult time getting off the line initially, so they were timing.
I think was a little bit of an issue that
got remedy, I believe after the first quarter. And yes,
an offensive line played well enough after that, so I
think he's back in the rhythm and a group. But
I do think he needed that game and he needed
that first quarter to try to get back on track.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
I've been so oppressed with Anthony Hill. He's been fantastic
for them so far. Defensively. I think back to he
was he was like a fifty to fifty year cruit
between A and M and Texas, and he chose the
long Horns. Colin Simmons was between Texas and LSU. He
chose the long Horns and just so many of those
guys in that defense Craig are starting to merge us
big time playmakers. But what do you see from Anthony Hill?
(30:44):
I know he made the Lot Trophy, you know watch
list this week.
Speaker 6 (30:50):
Yeah. The progress that he made really from his freshman
year to a sophomore year has been most impressive. He
would tell you that last year he was kind of
a ball get ball, you know, just go after something,
and wasn't It wasn't as much technique sounds as he
needed to be over time, but that was going to
come with time and working under Peacock Kowski's defense. Colin
(31:12):
Simmons I had a chance to call both of his
state championship games for television last two years, and I
remember thinking, what a beast this guy is. If his
game can translate and transition out quickly to the collegiate level,
how special might he be. And we're starting to see
signs of that with what he's doing. He's still learning
the game, but getting off the line of scrimmage and
harassing quarterbacks has been really impressive to watch.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Hi.
Speaker 8 (31:35):
Greg last one, what do you think happens here? I
don't know if you're able to give a prediction, but
certainly talk us through this one and what you think
we can expect how this win ends well.
Speaker 6 (31:46):
Sark is fond of saying the key is the ball.
When we do our pregame interview two hours before kickoff.
He likes to say the ball meaning getting turnovers and
preventing turnovers. Georgia is a minus one in the turnover category,
mainly because they don't get and create and haven't been
anyway creating a lot of turnovers. If that trend continues
(32:06):
and the Longhorns can get Carson back to throw a
sixth interception of the season or seventh something like that,
continue to slam down the running game, Georgia's thirteenth in
the SEC and rushing events. If they if they I
know you wouldn't think about that. But if they can,
if they can limit them on that make them one
dimensional like they did Oklahoma last week, then it makes
(32:28):
a big difference.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
Hey, one, last one, real quick, Craig, do you want
to rent out your home for Airbnb this weekend?
Speaker 1 (32:34):
I hear it's pretty hard to get a hotel room
this weekend at Austin.
Speaker 6 (32:37):
You know, I probably should have given it more thought.
And here's why you got the game Saturday night. I mean,
I go up to Dallas through the high school show Friday,
so I wouldn't going to be here anyway. I just
have to relocate my wife, you know. And then and
then Saturday you got the football game. Sunday morning, Linda
and I are flying to Los Angeles. We're going to
see Joni Mitchell perform at the Hollywood Bowl back on
(32:57):
the Red Eye. So I mean, yeah, I home would
have a MAILHOLF have been thinking about it and could
have taken care of it, but I wouldn't get that
foreign advance.
Speaker 8 (33:05):
Not only did he deny me an appearance last week,
he denied need the gate the gatecode to his home.
Craig wait, voice of the Horn, being selfish, being a
bit up vit here if you will, No, great dude
does a great job that we'll all be watching and
listening courtesy of thirteen hundred am is own then in Austin.
No one does it better play by play man for
(33:27):
the Horns. We appreciate your Craig, have a great call,
say travels, enjoy that show.
Speaker 6 (33:31):
Thank you Stan Guardy. Good to be on with you guys.
Speaker 8 (33:33):
All right, take you my guy, Craig Way. Damn let
me chill get the crib for a little bit.
Speaker 1 (33:39):

Big Ball game. They also got Formula one. I hear
their concerts. Craig went nice enough to offer me to crib.
I'm Mike would have slid over there.
Speaker 12 (35:00):
Now.
Speaker 8 (35:01):
I got to volunteer up on the North Side on Saturday,
so I want to make sure I get back. And
to the good people here in Houston who give us you,
lend us your ears, and give us your time every day,
which allows us to maintain our status as your home
for Houston sports, we are forever grateful for that. With
that being said, let's keep talking some college football because
there's a lot of money being thrown around the college landscape.
(35:22):
We'll get to that. See what Sark is clocking. He
and Kirby both making a lot of jack in the
sec with the big headset. Let's go to two eighty
eight south bound, Joseph and Pearland.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
What up with it? Oh?
Speaker 12 (35:35):
Yes, how y'all doing?
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Y'all doing okay? I can't complain they good. Listen. I
made a mistake. I know you push to watch football
and child that you can't walk out on them. I
feel good about kicks, but I walked out on U because.
Speaker 6 (35:51):
I thought they lost the game. Man.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
In fact, I was gone and come to find out
this scorn. I missed it.
Speaker 12 (36:02):
I kill you.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Okay, good people, take care of my man.
Speaker 8 (36:05):
Joelseph go to you and nervous as hell. I was
nervous for you. I was like, oh, Gord, he's gonna
buy one. This LSU should have taken an ale on Saturday.
You find a way to win, but it was dicey
down the stretch, especially the one you move on. What
point did you feel, first of all, you were nervous.
When did you other than the final play, when did
you feel like, all right, they're.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Gonna pull this off.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
I mean the fourth, the fourth down, fourth and five
and they throw a touchdown to the end zone. That
was pretty I mean, it felt like they were gonna
lose the game because the way they but but lank
Keffin messed up like they were taught.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
He gets in his own head.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Sometimes, like sometimes you settle for the points to take
a field goal. Sometimes you be aggressive and you go
and you go for the kill shot. That's why I
don't think he'll ever be lin Kiff. It will never
be considered an elite coach.
Speaker 6 (36:55):
He is.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Since he has been the head coach at Ole Miss,
he has not beaten a ranked SEC team on the road,
which is wild.
Speaker 8 (37:02):
Period because oh Miss, Let's be clear, there's talent down there.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
No question about it.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
At the number one transfer portal recruiting class, they spent
tons that they created a thing called the Grove Collective
where they raised I think it was eleven million dollars
to the shell out for players and they went and
got established stars from across the SEC, Walter Nolan from
right up the road to A and M. I mean,
and it's good players they got. They're still not good
enough to get over that hop.
Speaker 8 (37:27):
It is interesting you bring up Lane Kiffin and the
boss our boss, mister Brian Erickson sent us this just
as a note something that he saw. It was the
money that coaches are making in college football and highest
paid coaches USA today does this every year and obviously
(37:48):
at the top of the mountain is Kirby. Kirby Smart's
coming in at just over thirteen million dollars, well earned,
two time national champion Georgia.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
It is what it is. Sec makes total sense.
Speaker 8 (38:00):
There's Dabbo just over eleven sorry, living good in Austin
at ten six?
Speaker 1 (38:05):
Can you scratch a decent living in Austin?
Speaker 8 (38:07):
Can I buy some decent property out there in the
high country at ten six?
Speaker 1 (38:11):
Look, they don't even know annual leave the property.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
At least I know Tom Herman's house that was completely
paid for, like the school they gave him that. Yeah,
he didn't even have to buy the house. The house
was included in the contract. So yeah, I mean, there's
he's not spending that money. By the way, what happened
with him and his wife were announced. They were separated,
amical divorce. She they're tweeting back and forth. She's dressing
(38:34):
him for game day and stuff.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
That's fair.
Speaker 8 (38:36):
They're still friends going It just because you relationship run
resting him every day, laying out his clothes.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
She's listen, that's their dynamic. I'm out of that. I'm
not in their bedroom.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
He looked at it and said, yeah, this deal is
gonna be very messy. Let's just on paper, we're gonna
stay together.
Speaker 8 (38:52):
Let me tell you something. She's a beautiful woman. And
forgive me, I don't know miss Arkesian's name. She's a
beautiful woman I see on Instagram sometime. But let me
be clear. Sark is the head coach of the University
of Texas and he's yanking in over ten million dollars
a year. He's not going to have a problem finding
another futures missus Sauyal that looks as awesome. Oh better,
(39:13):
Miss Lareal, God bless you. She must be on too.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
Sart's got a type two.
Speaker 8 (39:18):
Sark does have a tighte and he also can afford
said type. Let's get down here the issue. So I'm
going through these names. I won't go here, but Sark
comes in at three. There's Lincoln Riley at four, Ryan Dale,
Ohio State at five, Mike Norvel tight for six. There
in Tallahassee at ten million, A year. Kaitlin de Board
a new Alabama coach at ten million. I don't think
(39:39):
he's worth that, but probably the cost of doing business.
There's your boy, Brian Kelly just under ten million. Mark
Stoops at Kentucky underpaid at nine million. He just got
paid underpaid at nine You all hard. It is a
recruit at Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
There was a list that came out the other day
of coaches that are five and eight in their last
thirteen games, and Mark Stoops is one of them. You
make a nine million a year, bro, you can't be
five and eight.
Speaker 8 (40:02):
You look at his full body of work compared to
other coaches. Shout out to my man, Joker Phillips. That
didn't go real well there in Lexington when I was
there on the beat. Nonetheless, Mark Students has done a
phenomenal job in Lexington. Josh Typel makes sense. I'm trying
to get to our guy. Oh there he is, Lane Kiffin.
He's making nine million dollars a year. Then in Oxford.
(40:23):
That's about right given his resume. I asked you this,
then I'll grab you Jacob on the north side. If
ole miss who your byumingals just be if they were
to fire Lane Kiffin today, Who are they going to
get better than Lane Kiffin to come down there to
Old Miss?
Speaker 1 (40:39):
Granted is nine million dollars, Who they gonna get better?
Speaker 6 (40:43):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (40:43):
There were some rumors that if Kiffin were to leave
for Florida that he liked drink Woods from Missouri could
slide over to Old Miss.
Speaker 8 (40:50):
I mean, you know, Connor, is Ole miss a better
job than where Drinker Whiz has Missouri at right now,
it's Ole miss a better job.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
Yeah, but drink Woods is probably gonna get the Florida job.
Speaker 8 (41:00):
So one of them gonna get the for allright, Okay,
because then we're gonna take a call about.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Field kind of sucks Connor. They're gonna upgrade it those.
Speaker 8 (41:12):
Football now you're in the SEC and get their business
affairs in order?
Speaker 1 (41:17):
All right? How about this?
Speaker 8 (41:19):
If Old Miss were to move on from Lane Kiffen
Deon Sanders started his coaching career at Jackson State. He's
getting big boy money there in Colorado. Get on the
phone with Dionna, bring him back to Mississippi. That's about
the best that they can hope for an Old Miss.
I don't know that they're getting anybody better than I
don't know if that fan base would take two would
(41:40):
be some conflicts of interest. But Sylvester Krume was a brother.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
Assisippi State got chandeliers at the at the tailgates and stuff.
First black head coach in the SEC Sylvester Krume when
he was at Missippi State head coach at least Jacob
on the north side. Let's wrap up this college football segment.
Sounds like you want to talk from college bomb.
Speaker 13 (41:57):
Yes right, hey, Steam, I can't believe that you said
your door. Our mon is exactly. He the number one pick.
You know, he Team Brady already and that's that's who
want him, the Raiders. The Raiders want them. That the
owner was seen talking to him. And Gordy, you know,
he got over two thousand yards he being in the
Big twelve now, so only ain't no two thousand yards,
(42:19):
seventeen touchdowns and four interceptions he been. He's been sacks
twenty four times and he still got them numbers. And
Gordy you're talking about. He brings the bag. He gonna
bring viewership. His jersey is gonna sell TV. But he
is the bag. Ain't no ain't no circuits. Ain't nobody
go for they go to what yes, sir, yes, sir.
Speaker 8 (42:41):
Call me and I'm up against it, so I'm not
hanging up on you. I'm just making the point as
we part, I'm looking at the clock.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
Call me when your door Samders wins something.
Speaker 8 (42:50):
I need winners, and I haven't seen him win a
damn thing a couple of his late rallies. No, no, no, no,
I'm talking about winning conference championship, win a damn division.
I mean, get your team into a respectable ball game,
and when that win something. Granted, yes they did get
to the Black College Football National Championship. When they wear
Jackson State the celebration ball I'm a big fan, win something,
(43:14):
and then we could talk about your door, Savice. Now,
his dad, Dion was a stud, and if you good, sir,
want to be treated like the stud that you are,
go to get studr rex dot com and enhance your
male performance. Whether you're a young man just want to

Speaker 1 (44:01):

Speaker 3 (44:04):
It's the next man off, next stop.
Speaker 4 (44:06):
The next step, Take the next step, next up.
Speaker 6 (44:09):
Next stop, next, next up?
Speaker 1 (44:11):
This he wants to be next.
Speaker 3 (44:15):
This is next up with Tad Northfleeten Chris Gordy.
Speaker 6 (44:19):
Let's see what's next next next.
Speaker 8 (44:23):
Let's kick off the second hour, final hour of the show,
second half. If I will line from the Sports Talk
seven ninety studios GALLERYA area to be precise, We're off
the west Loop south right here by Uptown Park, new
to the station, new to the show. Welcome stand Northfleet
show hosts me. That's Chris Gordon to my left. That's
my radio partner, my guy, Connor Dey McGovern, the youngest
(44:45):
of our bunch. He's on the other side of the glass.
They appreciate his production and programming prowess. And we'll hang
out for another fifty seven minutes. Or so as our
attention will get back in the National Football League. As
Week seven gets underway, tonight, we've got Broncos at Saints.
Sean Payton returns to the Bayou where.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
He once was a famed for breeze going into the
Saints Hall of Fame tonight?
Speaker 1 (45:10):
Is that to night?
Speaker 2 (45:12):
So he's gonna wait, free game chant and all that
kind of stuff. Now they have no wide receivers for
he Shaheed is out is out also? So I heard
you got a phone call a come player.
Speaker 8 (45:23):
Not with these knees. I'm done, bro, I will I'm
just looking at a message. Uh, Craig Way, I'm looking
at something. If you miss our one, we have Voice
of the Long Horns Craig Way for those that like
to hook him. Sports seven ninety dot com or the
free iHeartRadio w app. You can go back and listen
to that content on after this program. Connor had that
(45:46):
up shortly after twelve o'clock. Which you want to get
the Packers right?
Speaker 1 (45:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (45:50):
Well got packers just tweeted A limited number of tickets
are available for this game due to the Texans returning
a portion of their allotment.
Speaker 1 (45:59):
So sus Vans did not buy their a lot.
Speaker 8 (46:02):
Miss, So Houston fans don't want to go to Lambo.
Speaker 1 (46:06):
It's not even cold yet. It's not cold.
Speaker 8 (46:08):
And that's a cool ass scene from what I've been told,
Like if you're just a football fan and you do
have the means to do so, the Texans are see,
I look at that as kind of like going to Canon.
It's a pseudo monument to the game of football, going
up there to Lambeau in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
The Texans rarely go for the traveling Texans group, but yeah,
up here it would have been one you had circled
on your to do list.
Speaker 8 (46:34):
Let me pull this thing back up here. So the
Texans are four and one versus the Packers. They've been
to Green Bay twice. This is just the third time.
They hadn't been to Green Bay since twenty sixteen. So
I am surprised at the amount of cash in this
town and the euphoria around CJ. Stroud, Dimiko and this
team that more people didn't go up there. You think
(46:56):
that's some folks saying, now I'm gonna save my money
because I think this one could be an for the Texans.
Do you think the outcome is a big cool even
the right white flag. Already folks saying this one. I
don't feel great looking like the next few road trips,
Like the next one is in New York on Thursday night.
That's kind of tough to do. If you have a
nine to five Mondays, you gonna make a weekend of
that though. Yeah, and then and then a couple of
(47:17):
weeks you go to Dallas. That's an easy way you
could drive that one. So again, like, what do you
spend your money on a trip, like doing any road trip.
This seems like this would have been the one. Not
sure mine frying, But I will tell you that the
Packers will be in the house. Oh, I need to
get to this as well. The Packers wearing their all
white uniforms, gord it so we mentioned yesterday and we
(47:38):
had some fun with Jonathan Wells, you and I going
back and forth about their alternate uniforms and helmets. So
they're going all white. The Winter Warning Game is what
it's being tabbed. They're asking the fans at Lambeau to
wear white to create a home field advantage. It's a
white out in Lambeau Field. Sip up in Wisconsin typically
(48:00):
a white out. But yeah, not much to you.
Speaker 1 (48:11):
Yo.
Speaker 8 (48:11):
So one of my guys, and I'm gonna say his name,
it's still a good friend of mine.
Speaker 14 (48:17):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (48:17):
He's found himself in a tough situation. Put himself in
a tough situation. But uh, former Saints defender and starter
as well as Packers. I think he made All Pro
Team or at least a Pro Bowl for the Packers.
Darren Sharper, whose brother Jamie used to play linebacker here
for the Texans. Uh, Darren Sharper when he was playing
in Green Bay, was visiting Jamie. We were all sitting
(48:37):
around Jamie's pool at the house and Uh, I was like, man,
what do you do? And green Bay as a player
for fun? Like, how does that go? He was like, bro,
it's awful. He's like you you you actually import all
the talent that you can muster and you go to
Buffalo Wild Wings and that's about what you have. Now
this is in the two thousands, so I want to
(48:58):
believe Green Bay has built that out a little bit.
Most guys go down to Chicago, you go down the
millwalks by. Now maybe they we got an ipick theater
in there. Give me something, Give me some monitor beans.
Speaker 2 (49:13):
Did you see this the weather now, yeh, seventy degrees
seventy three.
Speaker 1 (49:17):
I don't know what happened.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
Yeah, this is not going to feel a Green Bay No, no, no, no, no, no,
all right?
Speaker 8 (49:24):
So what else? I saw something else? Uh?
Speaker 2 (49:28):
To ten to fifteen wins too, So see if that
comes in a factor of field goal kicking.
Speaker 8 (49:34):
So let's do this, because it's funny you bring that up.
I do feel like the Texans have the advantage from
a special team standpoint. I start with Kymie Fairband. Who
you get the fifty yards and out? Kimi Fairband is
eight for nine. Uh so I trust Kymie. Think he's
missed only two field goals on the year. I'm with
(49:56):
Kayee when he needs to knock one through. Points will
be at a prem here. Want to put three on
the board. But the thing that's getting the most attention
from a special team standpoint in Green Bay, former Denver
Bronco and most recently as of last season, place kicker
Brandon McManus has resolved lawsuits while a member of the
(50:21):
Jacksonville Jaguars. He has been signed to the Green Bay Packers.
Their current kicker is not great. He's only kicking at
like seventy one percent, which is abysmal for the National
Football League. Brandon McManus, who has not kicked all year,
has been signed. If you go look at who is this.
Mike Florio's Pro Football Talk lawsuit against Brandon McManus resolved
(50:45):
apparently on a team flight either going to or more
likely coming back from, one of tho the London games
last season. He had multiple sexual inappropriate encounters with some
stewardesses and world Yeah.
Speaker 1 (51:01):
Go read this thing. It's wow.
Speaker 8 (51:03):
This is Rob Demoski of ESPN dot com has been
writing on this. And guess who the attorney for the
ladies are. Houston's.
Speaker 2 (51:12):
He's just the you actual allegation, you.
Speaker 8 (51:16):
Got a sexual deal with an athlete, You call Tony
Buzzby and.
Speaker 1 (51:19):
He'll get you some cash.
Speaker 8 (51:21):
Now, I sincerely feel sorry for these victims if it is,
and I must say alleged because it is a law settlement.
Speaker 1 (51:27):
So I don't know.
Speaker 8 (51:28):
Two flight attendants and those two attendants are Texas based apparently,
well Houston based, which is where Tony Buzzy comes in. Nonetheless,
that's who's kicking for Green Bay Brandon McManus. Well, you're
Texans fan. This game let's get some signs going. Why
would you do that?
Speaker 1 (51:48):
Because this guy's a I don't know, we'll get the alligation.
It is not such a good guy.
Speaker 8 (51:56):
So let's go. Uh, let's go talk some trashy connor
Demiko is that's about going to Lambou. Let me hear this, Demko,
Tim Demko? What you think about going up here?
Speaker 3 (52:04):
Bro?
Speaker 8 (52:04):
How does that go? It went well for you last
time you were decordinated. You win in there and got
to win and what was that twenty twenty? I think
you won thirteen to ten, Demiko.
Speaker 11 (52:13):
Lambo is a special place. I told our players that today.
It's a special place to play. You talk about you
know the history of football, right, it's always special to
play there. And it's even more special when you can
get a victory in Lambeau because they always have, you know,
a tough team. It's always a tough battle there.
Speaker 1 (52:29):
Guys, be prepared.
Speaker 11 (52:30):
But I want our guys really you know, understanding the
atmosphere right and really just take a look and look
around and see how special that place is. And like
I just told them today, it's even more special when
you get a win. It's not gonna be tough and
It's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be tough. Right,
They're a tough team, really well prepared team. We have
our hands full, but I want our guys to embrace
(52:52):
the moment of playing in Lambo.
Speaker 8 (52:54):
All right, Head coach Demico Ryans. I presume like this
will be obviously Seene's first time, Will's first time health
I think this is Stingley's first time, Like this will
be the overwhelming majority of that locker room hadn't been
up there. So it'll be on Demko to like, Okay, hey, guys,
Like if it were me, I would suggest, hey, let's
(53:15):
get to the stadium early. I've seen some coaches. We
get in Friday night, they actually schedule or walk through
or get there earlier on Saturdays. Rather, let's get there early.
Let's do a walk through so you can ooh and ah,
take your pictures, do all of that stuff, so that
when you get off the bus on Sunday, all you're
thinking about is just playing football. I wonder if Demko
(53:36):
will tinker with the schedule as we have seen some
other coaches do. Don't know, just something I'm putting out
there for consideration. Let's wrap up this segment with a
phone called friend of the Station, Friend of the show,
Michael and the Heights getting him in.
Speaker 12 (53:48):
Hey, man, Green Bay always white. You know, Hey, Hassan
Reddick the Eagles the linebacker right then here, dude, come
on after him? Why not? Dude, you cannot have enough
pass rushers. I mean, what would what would you have
to trade for that guy?
Speaker 6 (54:05):
Like?
Speaker 14 (54:05):
You got it?
Speaker 1 (54:06):
You?
Speaker 12 (54:07):
Yeah, at least kick the tires.
Speaker 1 (54:08):
Man, you're saying the Texans go after Hassan Reddick?
Speaker 12 (54:11):
Hell yeah, why not?
Speaker 6 (54:13):
The cash?
Speaker 1 (54:14):
No?
Speaker 6 (54:14):
Why not?
Speaker 8 (54:15):
We don't have enough remps like between Will and Denil.
Now Deniko Archery is back in the fall. Derrick Barnett
was very effective for this team down the stretch last year. Like,
I'm just not seeing where the money is worth it
right now to go a fantastic player.
Speaker 1 (54:31):
I just don't see him here in Houston crushing my dreams.
Speaker 6 (54:35):
Man.
Speaker 12 (54:35):
I want that defense, that that ultimate defense. But hey,
I'm pretty confident in the Texans chances. I'm not going
to say they're gonna whoop the Green Bay Packers, but
you know, as long as we could run the ball,
we stand a chance. And uh, I'm a little afraid
of that passing attack. Old Stingley got burned by ol
Boute last week, so yeah, I'm a little little nervous.
But hey, and he said in the Texans' is all white?
Speaker 6 (54:57):
Are they?
Speaker 8 (54:57):
Do?
Speaker 12 (54:58):
They have the white helmet or just the white jerseys?
Speaker 8 (55:00):
Green Bay all white. Texan's going to have blue hats
and blue jerseys.
Speaker 12 (55:04):
Okay, that's clean.
Speaker 6 (55:05):
I like that. I like that.
Speaker 12 (55:07):
All right, guys, Well, have good week and texting.
Speaker 1 (55:10):
Appreciate it to you, my man, michaeln. Heights.
Speaker 8 (55:12):
He mentioned the thought of adding Hassan Reddick, who form
an All pro on the edge there has not reported
for duty for the New York Jets. Gord there, I'm
hearing that Hassan re release. I read Hassan Reddick in
a proposed trade to send him to Detroit to give
them an edge defender given that Aiden Hutchinson is hurt.
(55:33):
As it pertains to the guys on the edge, and
we'll close out here. I saw this pop up. Will
Anderson Jr. Danil Horn, Daniel Hunter excuse me form one
of the best pass rushing duos in football. They've combined
for eight sacks and according to PFF fifty total pressures
for context, Green Bay's edge defenders only have twenty eight,
(55:56):
so Hunter and Anderson have been essentially double almost double
what Green Bay's edge guys have provided. We'll talk more
about the Green Bay matchup. We'll look at the injuries
on their end. Let's hear from c. J. Stroud and
I'll ask you, guys who got more confidence in Jordan
Love in Green Bay or c J. Stroud on the
(56:19):
road seven one three two one two five, seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (56:23):
This is next time stuck with stand Northfleet and Chris Gordy.
Speaker 12 (56:28):
During this next stage on Sports.
Speaker 3 (56:31):
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (56:35):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
Speaker 15 (56:37):
You know you dream as a kid to you know,
go play at this stadium and it's historical stadium, a
lot of you know, great games played in there, and
you know, to go for my first opportunity to be
you know, up there against a great team. You know
it's gonna be on and I can't wait.
Speaker 8 (56:53):
Yeah, that's the quarterback c J. Stroud, young man going
to Lambeau for the first time. There is a very
tough opponent awaiting him in the Green Bay Packers, and
that defense lead the league in takeaways. I think that's right,
certainly among the top. They don't turn the ball over collectively,
(57:17):
but they certainly take it away more than they give
it away. And the Packers are fourth in the league
in point differential. Green Bay has won four of their
last five games. It's only lost by two points to
a Minnesota team that absolutely demolished. We know our Houston Texans.
(57:38):
That was a long time ago. We got the running
game back going, Joe Mixon, Damian Pierce, welcome back, and
so let's do this. We looked earlier at the injuries
from the Texans standpoint, Gordy, who's in and who's out?
As I look at the Green Bay injury report, at
(57:58):
least from a practice standpoint, dnp one of their starting
offensive linemen guard who is at Elgington Jenkins, He's dealing
with a knee. They also defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt. Well,
a couple sec is there where Jenkins go?
Speaker 6 (58:15):
Is?
Speaker 1 (58:16):
Is he in Mississippi? Guy?
Speaker 8 (58:17):
He might be OSU or something like that. Elgington Jenkins,
I can't remember. He was a early round pick. Nonetheless,
and so those are two of their starters that did
not practice. He has been manning the left guard for them.
He was a second round then in twenty nineteen, I
was right Mississippi State where he played his college ball. So,
(58:38):
like I said, you can go look at the twenty
two that they start. Everybody it's a first or second
round outside of like three free agents, Preston Smith being
one of them, Xavier McKenny being another. But then like
overwhelming ninety five percent of their roster first and second
round dudes. So they've done a good job putting together
(58:58):
a roster. I've heard Nick Cassario command what they've done there.
I've heard Demiko Ryans come in what they put together there.
Here's why I'm nervous, man. Oh well, let me finish
the report. Jay Alexander was limited, Kenny Clark limited all
three receivers or three of the four receivers, Jayden Reed,
(59:18):
Christian Watkins, Dantavian Wicks all three, well, three of their
four receivers limited. So they had three dudes that DMP yesterday,
So they appear to be mostly healthy. All right, Gordon,
(59:39):
I can't stop thinking about Jake Hanson and Neville Hewitt
at linebacker. No Kamar Lassiter, no Jimmy Ward, Kaylin Bullock,
rookie going against that outfit on the road, D'Angelo ross
or something the playing corner. So really you're talking about
(01:00:04):
the Texans' fourth corner, third or fourth corner and Jalen
Petrie and some mismatches, just trying to guard more athletic,
more explosive players in the wide receiver position. I saw
this nugget not come to you, g Manu. The Houston
(01:00:24):
Texans ranked fourth in the NFL in passing yards allowed
per game and first an opponent completion percentage. Gim man,
how they gonna stop Jodan Love from throwing the ball
all over the yard?
Speaker 5 (01:00:39):
Man?
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
Uh? With a good pass rush. Yeah, obviously we need
to start there.
Speaker 2 (01:00:45):
Don't give him the time to throw an accurate ball
down the field. But it's also like, I mean, he's
playing four games this year. It's only got one game
where he's throw for through for over three hundred. That
was three D nine and the lost the Mannesota.
Speaker 8 (01:01:00):
Good point by you also go look at the completion
percentages in those games. He's not completing the ball at
a high clip. Yeah, fifty eight percent. Yeah, it's it's
very underwhelming for a guy with the talent and with
the weapons and coaching.
Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
And I think somebody burned it up yesterday. Minnesota dominated
the first half of that game. They got off to
a twenty eight nothing lead and then Green Bay started
tearing it up, so it's like they couldn't do nothing
on offense. And then rallied late and made it look
more respectable. But he was thrown because he had to throw,
and maybe Minnesota felt a little bit cocky on or
(01:01:36):
up twenty eight nothing.
Speaker 1 (01:01:37):
You know, we can kind of back off a little
bit here. So I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:01:42):
I mean again, I'm put me in the camp. But
like I, Jordan loves fine, but I don't know. He's
not my favorite quarterback. I don't think he's a put
this on. I don't think he's and would have to
run through the names. I wouldn't put him in. I
wouldn't immediately put him my top ten quarterbacks in the league.
It's funny he bring that up. I just booked Mark
something that I saw come out from the NFL. Best
(01:02:04):
passer rating through six weeks in the NFL. I'll spare
you the name. Joe Burrow's at the top. I'll get
the top three, Joe Burrow, Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson. Do
you know that Jordan Love nor CJ. Stroud are on
that list.
Speaker 8 (01:02:20):
Neither of those guys represent the top ten passers in
the league.
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
Surprising USA today they do their Yeah, they do power
rankers for everything, and they just put out their top
ten quarterbacks the Quarterback Round.
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
Yeah, they do not have a Jordan Love's seventeenth on
the list.
Speaker 8 (01:02:40):
So here's what I'll say, strout seventh, CJ. CJ has
been turning the ball more on turning the ball over
more this year, not as much as Jordan Love. Not
as much as Jordan Love. And that's the key, CJ.
Take care of the football. My boy, What did I
hear CJ was talking about not shooting their sales in
the foot? Let me is, CJ, A, you gotta just
(01:03:02):
keep staying in the game.
Speaker 1 (01:03:03):
CJ.
Speaker 8 (01:03:03):
What are you guys gonna do to stay in this
thing and give yourself a chance?
Speaker 13 (01:03:07):
Huge?
Speaker 15 (01:03:07):
You know, I think whenever we stay on the green
or like, you know, staying positive ahead of the sticks,
like man, it's hard for us to get off the field.
And you know, it's one thing we've been trying to
just be better at is just you know, not shooting ourselves
in the foot. And I think last week we definitely
took a step, especially you know, like in a way environment.
It wasn't loud the whole game, but the beginning of
(01:03:27):
it was. We were good with our sign operation. And
you know it's another environment to test us again, and
you know it's gonna be a rocking crowd, and you know,
we can't wait. So we definitely just gotta be smart
and understand. You know, like the more we can stay
above the sticks and you know, help each other out,
the better we'll be off to get a dub.
Speaker 8 (01:03:44):
I want to continue with Stroud here because I think
this is also important. We mentioned taking care of the
football Stroud three.
Speaker 15 (01:03:51):
Yeah, I'll say just execute and finished, you know, like
execute our plays. I gotta be accurate and you know,
really just you know understand and you know, like this
team is known to keep you know, their defense, I mean,
their defense kind of keeps your team in the game
by getting turnovers, and they do a great job of that.
(01:04:11):
You know, especially on the back end. You got some
really good dvs. And up front they play really well
and their backers are really solid. So you know, another
great challenge for me to try to be better with.
You know, I feel like I've been kind of like
a little sloppy, turn the ball over a little bit.
But sometimes the ball doesn't roll your way, you know,
But you gotta take them shots and you gotta, you know,
be aggressive to you know, see what you can get
away with what you can't. So I don't work great
(01:04:33):
any of the decisions I made, but I definitely know that,
like you know, you're putting yourself at risk. So I
definitely know that this game, I gotta be very smart
with the football and just you know, take my shots
when they come, but you know, if they if they
don't come, then you know, just being smart with the football, all.
Speaker 8 (01:04:47):
Right, Daddy is CJ. Stroud yesterday took the podium. Gordy
I count two for six eight ten, two four, six eleven.
The Green Bay Packers have eleven different defenders that have
recorded at least half a sack. I mean that's crazy.
(01:05:10):
I mentioned Xavier mckennie leads in interceptions, leads the league
in interceptions. There, I mean, they got dudes getting after it.
Let's see how many dudes on their squad have interceptions.
McKinnie has five, Alexander has two, Linebacker Eric Wilson has one,
Evan Williams safety has one. So we have four interceptions
(01:05:33):
as a team. Xavier mckennie himself has more interceptions than
the Texans do as a team. That's alarming for me.
Now I hear you guys saying it. Damn stand the
whole show. You've been talking about how great Green Bay is.
I'm not saying they're great. I'm just looking at the
matchup for what it is, and I don't know that
(01:05:54):
the Texans have the advantage overall here. There are some
areas that they do. Go ahdea, and let's start the
next segment with that. I'll ask you what you see.
Let's start looking at this thing through a positive print prism.
Excuse me, how do the Texans go into Lambeou and
get one?
Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Well?
Speaker 8 (01:06:11):
Could wrap up continue hearing from the head coaching quarterback
taking your phone call seven one three two one two
five seven ninety, and then I gotta talk to Dusty Baker.
Heard something from Dusty in the media as well that
about doing it from us half an hour now, Matt Thomas,
Rossferry up Sports Talk seven ninety. This is next up
to the.
Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
Next, to the dirt world.
Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
This is next up.
Speaker 6 (01:06:31):
You kind of hit on everything I wanted to say.
Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
With stan Or Fleet and Chris Gordy on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (01:06:38):
Appreciate everybody that has us pre set number one on
the audio dial. Again, the free iHeartRadio app will travel
with you whether you're inside the Loop the belt Way.
You can get us right here courtesy of the app
or not, whether you're here inside the belt Way, inside
the Loop or not, wherever you're traveling, to appreciate it.
We get people that hit us up all the time
(01:06:59):
streaming the show. Fellas, keep it pushing my gut. Scott
taking his family, who had the friends and family going
up to Lambeau on uh. I think they leave out
on Saturday, may leave on Friday. It's something cool. I'd
like to do it. I just don't want to freeze
my ASDs off, so gotta be real strategic about about
that part.
Speaker 2 (01:07:16):
Also, I'm seeing pictures of these It's like, you know
how like on a game day when players arrive at
the arena and there's pictures that I'm walking in. I'm
seeing these pictures of these guys and I'm like, who
are these people? And it's a picture of a guy.
Lewis Hamilton has arrived. This is media day in Austin
for the F one. Yes, but they're taking pictures of
the Racers walking. They're like thesigner clothes walk.
Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:07:37):
Lewis Hamilton is a real dude. He owns a ton
of stuff. By the way.
Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
It's just funny because it's the dynamic in Austin. You're
the biggest college football game of the weekend and then
F one and then the F one racing going.
Speaker 8 (01:07:46):
Wound, going back to Green Bay. I saw this. Somebody
posted this. I'm not sure who.
Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
This was.
Speaker 8 (01:07:54):
Texanico YT a couple of days ago posted this. Last
time the Texans were five and one, they also played
the Packers. They got beat forty two to twenty four
October fourteen, twenty twelve, So we certainly hope that is
not an omen. Was that twenty twelve? I guess that
was twenty twelve October twelve, twenty twelve. Yeah, so, Aaron,
the five times that the Texans have played the Packers.
(01:08:16):
That first year that was Brett fav That was the
eight season, I believe. Let me double check that. I
think that was I know Brett got one. I think
that first one was eight. Well, the twenty twelve season
four excuse me. They were five and oher and then
lost to Green Bay, which made them five of the ones.
Speaker 1 (01:08:32):
All right, it's a little bit different. Excuse me.
Speaker 8 (01:08:35):
So there you go from according to who did I say, Texanikoyt,
he's one week off from what he was saying. All right,
let's go to the phone line and then we'll come back.
Because there are some advantages the Texans have into pulling
this off.
Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
And I'm not going to apologize for it.
Speaker 8 (01:08:52):
I'm concerned this is a bad matchup for the Houston Texans.
If Christian has was on the field, Nico Collins were
on the field, if the Texans had their second corner,
which happens to be Kamarin last day, I might feel
a little different. You start adding all this bleep up
and this is a big deal. Ray and Sugar Lane,
(01:09:13):
let's talk pack of Texans.
Speaker 14 (01:09:16):
I uh, good morning, guys. What I want to say
is this. I mean, I've been a Texans fan since
they got here. I've put up with those oilers while
they were here, and this is the best team we've
had since I've been a Texas fan.
Speaker 6 (01:09:37):
But we have a problem.
Speaker 14 (01:09:38):
And I'm not gonna cry wolf or anything, but we
got a great coach, we got a great quarterback. We
got I mean, the team members are just awesome, But
holding these guys accountable for what should be routine plays,
it's driving me crazy. We know we had a problem
(01:10:00):
with the with the offensive line not blocking properly and
not not jumping off sides and all the.
Speaker 5 (01:10:06):
Rest of that.
Speaker 14 (01:10:07):
That that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about
the play callers. We got a quarterback that has a gun.
You just told me that that uh the leading uh
quarterback was is on a losing team. They're one in
five I believe, so he's passer rating. I think they're
(01:10:30):
one in five. I mean I could be wrong. I
think they're one in five. But uh, we got CJ.
And we won't let him throw the ball. Now, it's
okay to have a running team if you got the
people in place to run the ball. That's I don't
have a problem with that. I believe in that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
But we don't have.
Speaker 14 (01:10:49):
The people in place that's gonna block for these guys.
Unless you tell me, Mixing's making his own holes. I mean,
is that the case? Because if we don't have those
people blocking for the running backs to do what they
need to do. We need to throw the ball and
I will gladly lose a game with him throwing the
(01:11:10):
ball more than the average team if it allows us
to score thirty points, thirty five points, because I think
that's what we need to do. We can do that.
Weeke in and week out. If we unleash this guy
on the league.
Speaker 8 (01:11:25):
Appreciate it, my man, Ray and Sugarland. We're running over
a little bit there. Bengals are two of them, sorry,
by the way, or two and four. Bengals are two
and four and look, I remind you CJ. Stroud has
been sacked sixteen times and I haven't even added up
to hits yet. I just don't with a team that
has Joe Mixon, and we have now seen two and
(01:11:48):
a half quarters of what this offense looks like with
Joe Mixon.
Speaker 1 (01:11:52):
I'm not saying you don't have to throw the ball.
Speaker 8 (01:11:54):
What I'm saying is, if I've got twenty eight back there,
I'm giving him the football and then I'm making life
easier for CJ.
Speaker 1 (01:12:01):
Stroud.
Speaker 8 (01:12:02):
I'm also extending his playing career. I don't want my
guy hit, and a lot of you seem to be
the hell with its stand. Just let him throw the
ball like that comes at a penalty, that comes at
a cost.
Speaker 1 (01:12:14):
Let me read you this.
Speaker 8 (01:12:17):
Four time Pro Bowl left tackle Lamby Tonsl has allowed
two sacks just to but he's been flagged twelve times,
four more than any other player at the position. Left
guard Kenyon Green has given up two sacks, a team
high fifteen pressures and been flagged seven times. This Green
Bay pass rush knows that too. I just don't live
(01:12:40):
in the world for me where I tell you what
CJ just stand back there and look down the barrel
of the shotgun and just deliver BB's I don't believe.
Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
It's not that I'm saying.
Speaker 8 (01:12:50):
I don't believe that CJ isn't talented enough to complete
that mission. And some weeks he may have to do that.
But this offensive line and were just it and took
care of the penalties up in New England a week ago, Gordon.
Speaker 1 (01:13:05):
But to me, the.
Speaker 8 (01:13:06):
Victory at Green Bay is about making this game ugly.
I want no part of a shootout with the Green
Bay Packers and Lambeau. What I do want to do
is play good defense, take away the ball, run this
thing with Joe Mixon, play action and take our shots
when they're there. Don't turn the ball over on offense,
(01:13:27):
and Kymie fairbearn kick some field goals. We get down
to the red area, let's punch this.
Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
Thing in and school. I think you just said. I
think this is literally who takes care of the football more.
I mean, I think whoever makes the big, the big
defensive play, whoever makes the big mistake offensively, I think
it's gonna cost him the game. And that's that's where
can the Texas go be fundamentally sound?
Speaker 1 (01:13:49):
Stan.
Speaker 8 (01:13:50):
Oh yeah, let's just throw the ball versus Green Bay. Okay,
they've allowed ten touchdowns to wide receivers, yet they have
nine interceptions, holding the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:14:01):
To eighty four rating.
Speaker 8 (01:14:04):
It drops down to a seventy eight rating if you
talk exclusively about the opponents wide receivers. This secondary is
damn good. CJ better not get the round to start
playing around with these dudes and putting the ball in
harm's way.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
These boys will take the ball away.
Speaker 8 (01:14:20):
I think the Miko and Bobby Ugly this game up,
and let's get a dove and get the hell out
of them. Come on back down to Houston. I just
don't want to play around and these penalties and getting
my quarterback hit. I'm just not here for it.
Speaker 1 (01:14:31):
I'm not.
Speaker 8 (01:14:32):
I don't love the way this offensive line has played
all year in the run and or pass game.
Speaker 1 (01:14:38):
I just don't.
Speaker 8 (01:14:38):
And Niko's statistics and Diggs statistics have clouded what this
offensive line really is. Go watch the tape, do the
deep dive on the numbers. I know many of you
will not. That's why Gordon and I hear other shows
on our lineup.
Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
I just go and blow for blow. It is not
a good idea. Gordy.
Speaker 8 (01:15:01):
Also, we have been corrected. My original tweet was right.
I went and looked it up for myself. Twenty twelve,
the Texans were five and oh. They went into Lambo
and got beat, making them five and one. They beat
the Dolphins, Jaguars, Broncos, tightening Jets en route to losing
at lambeau Field. For losing to the Packers, I should say,
all right, let's do that on the other side, we
(01:15:21):
come back, we wrap up the show. Got to hear
from Dusty will also take your phone call. Seventy one three,
two point two, five seven.
Speaker 4 (01:15:27):
Ninety do it again on Too Done next tour. Now,
what's next As more of Next Up continues now on
Sports Talk seven ninety home of your World champion Houston Astros.
Speaker 8 (01:15:45):
Final second for us before we get you over to
Matt Thomas and Ross stand sportsman at Chris Gordy as
I got Connor in there. Going back to the phone
lines as we wrap up Texans Talk because I want
to hear from Dusty Baker. Let's go to Katie I
tear westbound.
Speaker 1 (01:16:02):
DeAndre? Next up?
Speaker 6 (01:16:03):
Are you.
Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
DeAndre? Can you hear us? He's listening on this radio?
Oh DeAndre? Going once, going twice? A Sorry Stan? How
you doing all right? What's up? Broliclic speak to you?
First of all, Hey man, I just had a concern.
Speaker 10 (01:16:25):
Bobby slowik man Uh, I just don't think he's calling
the same please or he was in the same creativity
as he did last season, And just want to get
your opinion on that, sir.
Speaker 1 (01:16:37):
It's an interesting question.
Speaker 8 (01:16:39):
I have heard Bobby Slow, Gordon, maybe you have to
Bobby Slow's name has come up more and more this season.
At one point this year I made the comment, you
know with CJ said, you know, it's like a five
headed monster when everybody's healthy, including Nico and Joe mixing,
everybody's on the field. I feel like there are times
that Bobby is It's like the Cheesecake Factory menu. It's
(01:17:02):
just so much stuff on this thing, like you don't
really know. It happened to me the other day, went
over there to Galla Rea popping and cheesecakes.
Speaker 1 (01:17:09):
What's happening? And it was I didn't know what the.
Speaker 2 (01:17:12):
Hell I wanted. I thought that would have been below you, Jessy. No,
I'm a man of the people, a finer palette than nothing.
Speaker 10 (01:17:20):
I do.
Speaker 8 (01:17:21):
Now, go to cheesecake for once, then I dip across
the expressway right there and I go to Joey Uptown
for dinner. All right, but listen, check Fila like them too,
first job, so check me. Is Bobby calling the same game?
I think they're having to play differently. They've never had
a run game, at least a back like Joe Mixon,
(01:17:41):
So that changes what you do when you're out there
with what the what the shell of Damien Pierce last
year and Devin moldor Singletary. I mean, you just can't
call the same plane. Joe Mixon opens up and it
tied a different deal. Also, you add Steph Diggs. I'm
gonna need to get Steph Diggs the football. He one
of the better wide receivers in the league. I'm gonna
(01:18:03):
get them the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:18:03):
I think.
Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
I think what I look at is that we we
all agreed this team was going to be better this year, right,
like they made up Crade more talented. Yes, And I
look you look at some of the offensive performances early
last year, thirty seven against the Jacks, thirty against Pittsburgh,
thirty nine against Tampa, thirty against Cincinnati, and then look
at this year twenty nine, nineteen, twenty four, twenty three.
(01:18:25):
That's where it's a little bit like, wait, why aren't
we scoring as many points as we were last year?
You all said the schedule was the biggest difference. Schedule
has been easier so far. That's what you all said.
Buffalo's a good team. Obviously, Minnesota is a good team.
The Indianapolis Coats was you know, a ping pong ball
if you wheel away from representing the AFC South, Just
(01:18:49):
so I'm interested, excuse me, Frank on the north side.
Let's get out of here.
Speaker 6 (01:18:52):
Frank, Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 9 (01:18:54):
Man?
Speaker 13 (01:18:55):
Man?
Speaker 14 (01:18:56):
What up?
Speaker 1 (01:18:57):
I know?
Speaker 6 (01:18:57):
The fifteen was yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:18:59):
So that mean you got that check right?
Speaker 4 (01:19:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:19:02):
Direct depot one of my favorite words, favorite turns oh
I worked for.
Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
Hey better than Jim Crane.
Speaker 11 (01:19:12):
Hey, Gardy, look at you?
Speaker 14 (01:19:15):
Uh, your boy and l s U.
Speaker 6 (01:19:17):
If he don't make that playoff.
Speaker 13 (01:19:20):
Well he might be down here looking for a job
on somebody's staff.
Speaker 1 (01:19:24):
Damn No, they pay way too much. Frank, what's up you?
Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
Fine?
Speaker 12 (01:19:32):
And one?
Speaker 14 (01:19:33):
Yeah, but if they don't make that, uh, they don't
make the top four in them playoffs.
Speaker 13 (01:19:40):
Yeah, Gordy, I don't know about twelve teams.
Speaker 6 (01:19:44):
Getting there with that accent.
Speaker 14 (01:19:48):
To get that accent and all that stuff and none
of that stuff don't save him this time.
Speaker 2 (01:19:53):
Well, how about the appreciate you? Saggie's are sitting there.
Every same thing everybody's talking about them was a playoff team.
Speaker 8 (01:20:01):
We saw the They put a couple of days ago
on the Pat mcafe show here in the studio going it.
They put up the playoff bracket. Uls you would get
in as a nine or an eight seed, and they
would who today they had to play.
Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
They had to play some playing at Bama went to
play Texas. No, it wouldn't be at Texas As being
neutral field.
Speaker 1 (01:20:21):
That's right. The first round is just that, which is
so stupid. I've been, I've been.
Speaker 2 (01:20:24):
Wait till we get there and fans really see how
much travel it's going to be involved here. If you
want to follow your team through the playoff not going on,
you could play a home team at your or let's say,
on the way game at a at a at at
a team like one team that had them to go
to Penn State. So like, let's just say, like Georgia Kittson,
they gotta go play regional anymore, and the next round
you might have to go to Dallas, play the cotton
(01:20:44):
ball next round, maybe you'll get lucky it's in Atlanta,
or maybe you gotta go down to Miami.
Speaker 8 (01:20:48):
Hey man, you know, it's just everybody wins with this.
This is what y'all said, y'all wanted. I thought twelve
was too many teams, But here we are, all right,
Speaking of travel, a man that got on a plane
and got the hell out of Houston and went back
over the Wine country there in California, up in the mountain.
Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
He may have had his bags packed for him. Dusty Baker,
Dusty Baker's in the news. He was on I'm looking
at cron dot com right now. He was on the
show with Joel Sherman and John Hyman. Hay is a Hayman,
A Hyman Hayman, John Hayman, and you're looking at something else.
He was a podcast on Wednesday.
Speaker 8 (01:21:26):
Dusty Baker was asked about his time with Jim Crane
and being here as a skip of the astros. Wet's
see what Dusty had to say.
Speaker 1 (01:21:34):
Let me go to this thing here. These are a
little bit lengthy. Let me hear that one.
Speaker 8 (01:21:39):
That thirty second woner, if I could call a Dusty
Baker won the short one. Battling the front office. What
the hell's going on here, Dusty?
Speaker 7 (01:21:46):
Some of the battles with the front office I've had
for a number of years. Sometime you get tired of
fighting city Hall on something that you are ready, that
you're sure about.
Speaker 6 (01:21:56):
Now.
Speaker 7 (01:21:56):
Granted, I did want to win.
Speaker 6 (01:21:58):
Back to back.
Speaker 7 (01:21:58):
That's what I wanted to do, probably more than anythings reason.
You know, I came back and let's face it, at
seventy years old, you know most people are just drawing
their their pension and their social security, and you know
I was making a good living and doing what I
like to do all.
Speaker 8 (01:22:17):
Right, Dusty Baker said, you know the analytics folks. He said, man,
I wanted to come back for twenty twenty three, and
most people my age would be doing the retirement, but
he said he got tired of dealing with the analytics folks.
I ask you, do you think Joe Spotta has his
moments with the analytics team at many made where they
don't see eye to eye and Joe Spottle just doesn't
have the cachet like Dusty to tell.
Speaker 1 (01:22:38):
Them go to hell.
Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
No, I'm sure they do, but I think Joe's probably
a little bit more open to it than Dusty was.
Speaker 1 (01:22:45):
Joe Spotta. We'll see what you're seeing around. Martin Meldonado
out for another year.
Speaker 8 (01:22:51):
Catcher, Wow boy, we're out of time where I would
play some more Dusty Matt Thomas Rossford real may get
into it.
Speaker 1 (01:22:58):
On the in side.
Speaker 8 (01:22:59):
