Now what's next? Next stop?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's the man up, next.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Stop, the next step, take the next step, next up.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Next stop, next, next up.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
This This is Next Up with Tad Norfleet ten Chris Gordy.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Let's see what's next, next, next?
Speaker 4 (00:23):
What's up? Everybody?
Speaker 5 (00:24):
Welcome into Next Up here on Sports Talk seven to ninety,
getting you set for a big day tomorrow and see Texans.
We'll be back on the field play in a football
game Thursday night.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
Football Tomorrow night.
Speaker 5 (00:39):
It will be Texans and Jets from up there in
New York. I've seen some social media posts from some
folks in New York, JEFS fans delusional saying we need
to go on a run here. We need to go
on a run of winning four, five, six in a row,
and it starts Thursday night.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
See if they can make that happen.
Speaker 5 (01:00):
But other than that, the big story coming out yesterday,
which of course we'll get into, is the confirmation that
Stefan Diggs is officially done for the season and what
are the repercussions here? Who do the Texans lean on?
But you know, it was kind of discussed by us yesterday.
(01:25):
We kind of thought, all right, you're gonna miss him
for at least some time, if not the full season,
And of course everyone's fears were were verified as Stefan
Diggs torn acl out for the season. What does this
mean for the Texans? Who needs to step up? The
reality is, I mean you kind of go back to
what you were a year ago where you didn't have
(01:47):
Stefan Diggs. You've upgraded in the running back department, certainly
with Joe Mixon, and that's good. You have your full
compliment of your offensive line. Whether that's a good thing
or a bad thing. They haven't you know. The good
news is they've been relatively healthy. The bad news is
they haven't been very productive. So you have that going on.
(02:09):
And then of course you know the receiving corps. You
have Tank Dell, you have Dalton Schultz. Thankfully you kept
Robert Woods. Now I don't know if he'll played maybe
a bigger role, but John Metchi certainly popped last week
with a couple catches. Xavier Hutchinson has been that guy
(02:29):
to step up and have a catcher two here and there.
So that's productive. But of course a lot of people
looking out on the trade market and if there's a
wide receiver that the Texans should be targeting.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
And of course news came out.
Speaker 5 (02:43):
Yesterday almost almost within the hour, the news we found
a Stefon Diggs out for the season, and boom, the
Baltimore Ravens trade with the Panthers for wide receiver Deontae Johnson,
of course famously from Pittsburgh who was very productive a
couple of seasons ago.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
But now the question is, of course, this.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
Week, in short week, the Texans are going to go
on a Thursday night with their compliment of what they have.
But after this game, I think there will be some
real discussions about should we make a trade. Is there
a wide receiver out there that we need to target.
Somebody did float out a name to me yesterday that
I could pletely forgot about a guy who's sitting on
his couch doing nothing because he became a little bit
(03:21):
of a head case in his final days in New Orleans.
But Michael Thomas is just sitting out there. Don't know
if you want to bring him in for a workoutt
A phone call to him wouldn't cost you anything. Everybody
else you want to acquire would cost you something in
a trade.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
But certainly things to explore.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
But like we said, I think Nick Cassario on team
are kind of focused right now, staying on we got
to win tomorrow night with what we got in house.
There's nobody we can just bring in or trade four
that's gonna step right in and learn our system and
play tomorrow night. Let's focus on Tomorrow night, get this win.
But also in the back rood of our minds, be thinking,
is there a wide receiver out there that we can add.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
To tell you fellas, Good morning, Houston, appreciate your patience,
stay as we get locked in here on a Wednesday
Halloween eve for many, let's go where you are right now.
And I think that yes, it would have been a
challenge to bring someone in to play tomorrow night. But
(04:21):
make no mistake about it, Nick Casserio was made fully
aware of the contract or the terms of a contract
in trading the Carolina Panthers, sending Deontae Johnson.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
To Where's it going Baltimore? Caserio knew.
Speaker 6 (04:42):
I presume Caserio was offered, hey, man, here's where the
deal is. You want any of it is? And from
what we understand, Casario and I forget who reported it.
I have it somewhere saved in my social Cassario essentially said,
I'm good. He did not seriously kick the tires on
Deona say Johnson from a report that I get to
(05:02):
at some point during the course of the show. All Right,
so no nobody was gonna help them on Thursday. But
when you look around the state of the NFL, and
this is where my emotions take me, Nick Caserio had
absolutely better go find a wide receiver and not just
any old dude. You gotta go find a real dude
(05:25):
that can contribute. I repeat, let's let's break this down
and we'll take the rest of the show and the
rest of the segment rather than do this, Remember that
time we got the talk and go to it and
I said, they cannot go into next season with Nicocollins
and Tank Dale as their top two receivers. Y'all remember
that you told me I was crazy, many of you.
(05:47):
I told you I was speaking with agents behind the scenes.
I was talking with teams behind the scenes, and I
know for a fact. We now know they contacted Mike Williams,
who may still be on the trade block ironically for
the Jets, and we know for certain they put an
offer in to go get Keenan Allen from the Los
Angeles Chargers. Those were just two. There were others. We
(06:10):
know that now. So if that was the case, then
what the hell has changed now? I present to you also, Gordy,
Exhibit B. Let's go back to the last time we
saw this team play a game without Stefan Diggs. You remember, Gordy,
a divisional playoff matchup versus the Ravens at M ANDT
Banks Stadium there in the harbor of Baltimore. And now
(06:33):
were the Texans offense who scored no touchdowns? Mind you, Nicocollins,
that number one guy who has gotten better. I think
in part because Steph Diggs is on the roster, Gordy.
He had five receptions for sixty eight yards. Who's the
next wide receiver to have yardage? Oh, there's Robert Woods
with one catch. There's Xavier Hutchinson there in Baltimore with
(06:56):
two catches in his rookie season for minus three yards.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Steven Sims played that day. He didn't have a catch.
Speaker 6 (07:03):
Appreciate the kick return for a touchdown though, thing was
a put They don't have enough. That's if Nico comes
back in week five, and that's if this is the
last time Nico gets hurt. Nico has missed an average
of two ball games every year on average the four
year he's been in the league. Taint Dale has missed
more games and might be even now. He might be
(07:25):
about even in terms of games missing the games played,
Nick Casserio, is GM malpractice if they go into the
second half of this season and trying to make a
playoff run and they're gonna stay pat with Mechi who's
been coaching decision DNP this year? And it's not I'm
not hating on the guys, Gordy. I'm saying they've already
told us they don't believe the.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
Current core who all of these guys were in last year.
Speaker 6 (07:49):
Without step Diggs, They better go find a real wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
But what if they do now? I mean, what if?
Speaker 5 (07:54):
What if you've seen signs from Mechian Xavior Hutchinson, what
signs in practice? Hell no, I'm just saying no, no,
But to a certain extent, don't you have to trust
in your process and guys you drafted, you believed in,
and you're developed. And why did I go get Steph Diggs?
Why did I want Keenan Allen? Why did I will
(08:15):
he's obviously an upgrade. I don't know if Deontay Johnson
right now in his current state is absolutely better than
a young, up and coming Xavier Hutcheon.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
I know he is, And guess who else knows he is?
Because hutch doesn't start here. Deontay starts in the National
Football League and has been doing so for two teams. Now,
guess who who else is better than? I'm just telling
you the man started. He's been in the league starting
for a minute. That me and I could start for
the for the You and I can't start for anybody
right now, frigging.
Speaker 5 (08:43):
Anybody out the street. Carolina, all right, I'm gonna tell
you somebody else that can start. Adam Thielen. Ironically in Carolina.
He's a guy to call one hundred and three balls
for the Panthers a year ago. Terrible organization, terrible situation.
Who knows the system that Bobby Sloyd, Sean McVay, Kyle
Shanahan runs. Oh, that would be Adam Thieln because Minnesota
has a version of it in their own right. I
(09:05):
would be okay with Adam Thielen coming to town. But
don't you have to take consideration. I think his cap
pits around ten million. I mean, it's appro rating for
the rest of the year.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
It's not.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
The Texans have some space and they can restructure some
contracts of dudes like Nico Collins that they know are
going to be here for the foreseeable future. This isn't
a money thing. Oh and let me get to my
third exhibit. Let me get to exhibit C in why
the Texans absolutely should go get a wide receiver. Whether
(09:36):
Steph Diggs bought out this year or not, you are
going to have to go get another receiver next year
any way, whether that be by the draft or whether
that be free agency. Now I know the Texans winning
free agency. It got a dude this year. His name
is Joe Madman Mixing. He's pretty good at football. In
case y'all have been watching the Texans. He comes from
an offense that's pretty comfortable to what the Texans run.
(09:58):
They have a young wide receiver Cincinnati who's a bit disgruntled.
His name is t Higgins. Think he could go alongside
Nico Collins Saint Dale. I'd be really kicking the doors off, Higgins.
Would you come here?
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Now?
Speaker 6 (10:10):
Cincinnati isn't going anywhere. They're done So if they're gonna
get rid of Higgins after this year anyway, who's on
the franchise tag. Let's see, can I get a deal
done with a T. Higgins that is younger? If I
don't think they would come the terms on an agreement.
Who knows this offense? Because Zach Taylor Cincinnati runs a
very comfortable offense, hens Joe Mixon looking like that. In
this offense, T Higgins would be somebody in doing a
(10:32):
deal because you're gonna have to pay for somebody With
that argument, the Bengals are three and five and the
AFC is so bad.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
A two game win streak can put you right. You're
right back in the playoff hunt. So and I don't
think that they're gonna be willing to sell. We don't know, Nick,
pick up the phone now, maybe like at Jakobe Myers
with the Raiders, they're going nowhere.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
Pick up the phone.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
The notion and I will play some of that Demiko
on the other side. And I thought I would calm down
Gordon because I heard Demko's presser yesterday and it pissed
me off.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
It really did.
Speaker 6 (11:07):
And it's not just the wide receiver position he's doing
the same thing at another position. Now I criticize another
team that plays downtown. I know the Texans don't, but
you'll stay with me. There's another team that plays downtown.
Now they've actually hoisted championship banners over that men in
May Park. And there's a term I used called organizational
arrogance that to some degree the Astros have earned. Cassario Demiko,
(11:32):
I truly hope, and that's why I'm going to remain
calm Gordion. I hope they're just playing coy with the
rest of the league. We're not desperate. Somebody's gonna call
and offer them something pennies on the dollar or at
a screen discount, and they're gonna pounce on it. I
hope they don't believe that they have the arrogance, based
on what they've done last year and what this thing
(11:52):
has looked like through eight games, that they can stand
pat given the exact pieces we're talking about. You're a
gambling John met you the third being your third or fourth.
You're gambling that Hutchison, who I like and have liked
for two years. You're gambling that you're gonna go on
to Baltimore, going to Kansas City place a home game
(12:13):
versus the Buffalo Bills, and those are gonna be your receivers.
Look around the rest of the league have some awareness.
The Buffalo Bills are a Super Bowl legitimate threat. They
added a wide receiver. The Kansas City Chiefs, two time
reigning Super Bowl champions, they added a wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Let's go to.
Speaker 6 (12:30):
Baltimore, you know, the two time reigning MVP of the league.
They added a wide receiver. All three of those are
in the AFC. Casio, don't be smartest guy in the room.
Go get your team of damn wide receiver. It's not
that hard. Now, Caserio has a job to do. Stan,
I can't just go give away the farm to get one. Casario,
(12:50):
the moment you signed Joe Mixon, and the moment you
brought in Danil Hunter and Deniko Artrie and Steph Diggs,
you told us you were going whether you said it
or not, you're going all in on one of the
boy Well, if you're going to win the damn Super
Bowl and go get one, go find a dude and
bring him in here.
Speaker 7 (13:07):
Sports talks haven't when Fleet States Houston listens.
Speaker 8 (13:13):
Yes, I have a great shot. Already a huge brand
I'm liking your thuff.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Stanton or Fleet ten Chris Gordy are next on Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 9 (13:26):
To start.
Speaker 10 (13:27):
I know everybody's asking and update with Diggs. Unfortunately he
towards a cl so he'll be out for the year.
Really hurts hurts our team to hear that news. And
he's been such an important part to our team and
everything that he bought, not only on the field, but
off the field. The energy, the leader, like the way
(13:47):
he worked every single day. He brought a lot to
our team. And we have to pick up a slack.
A lot of guys have to step up, pick up
the slack. But you know, definitely praying for him to
have a speeder that's for recovery. It's definitely a blow
to us.
Speaker 6 (14:05):
Demiko Ryans from NRG yesterday giving us the news that
had been reported rumored. I was searching every which way
I could for it to be muniscous. God not Mattela,
not Pttella Tendon, and God not acl Unfortunately that is
the news. We've seen the last of Steph Diggs in
twenty twenty four. The brutal nature of the NFL as
(14:28):
a business. The show must go on. Steph Diggs will
be missed. Many of you are not as concerned as
I am about the state of this offense. They were
average at scoring with Nico Collins and Steph Diggs. I'm
talking about averaging the league. Now you remove Steph Diggs,
(14:52):
who I remind you forty seven receptions, second on the team.
I'm sorry, Leeds the with forty seven receptions is second
in receiving yards and tied for first with three receiving touchdowns.
Oh and let's not forget the rushing touchdown as well.
(15:14):
If you don't understand Steph Digg's value to this twenty
four Texans team, I don't have the time in two
hours less than now to explain that to you.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
He changes coverage now.
Speaker 6 (15:27):
He may not athletically be as explosive as consistently game
in the game out, play in the playout, but he
still can get you critical first downs. I've seen him
guy play outdoors, I've seen him play indoors. I've seen
him play in championship games. I'll take him on my team.
(15:49):
He is a consummate professional when it comes to preparing,
and he's one of the guys that has some swarm mentality.
He's a tough guy. He's not going back down. When
bullies like Baltimore get to talk in their crap, you
need dudes like that. That's part of the reason they
went and got him. So I said, if there was
(16:10):
the Astros and they were saying the same stuff that
Dimko's telling me about wide receiving offensive line, that it's
just gonna be okay, we believe in who we have.
You should, but you also have this thing. Remember O
would devout listeners here at Next Up in seven ninety
Remember hashtag arm insurance during the Astro season, And I
(16:32):
wound up being right about that because you had to
go overpay for Kakuchie and he was good. But all
the other games that you lost because you didn't have
arms that were contributing to the rotation and middle relief,
and it cost you games that would have put you
in the second seed in the AL and you wouldn't
have to deal with the hottest team in baseball Detroit.
Remember that, Nicko Sario, my dude, respect what you do.
(16:56):
It's an unfathomable job being a g of a team.
Don't overthink this. You win and got Steph Diggs, and
you wanted Keenan Allen, and you inquired about Mike Williams
at wide receiver for a reason. You remember the Baltimore
playoff game. You don't have enough. Yes, I understand Joe
(17:18):
Mixon was not playing for the Texas then, and he's
a huge reason why this team has a chance to
get to an AFC title game. But on the perimeter,
when it gets cold and he gets late in the year,
you better have you a guy, y'all. Remember a few
years back the Rams Sean McVay. He went and got
a guy. His name was Odell Beckham Junior. He was
going to be MVP of the Super Bowl. Unfortunately he
(17:40):
too busted knee. Let's not overthink this, so I went
hashtag arm insurance with the Astros. My hashtag now until
next Tuesday straight deadline is hashtag hand insurance. You better
go get your another pair of hands, cause Sario, because
if you're putting the playoff hopes of this team in
match it third.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Who I like?
Speaker 4 (18:02):
Xavier Hutchinson? Who I like? Steven Simms? Who I like?
Speaker 6 (18:05):
If that's what we're doing here, we've already seen this movie.
Are players allowed to get better? Absolutely? Young guys have
likely grown up. Tank Dale likely grown up. Hopefully he
has gotten in a groove. I love what I saw
from him during the game on Sunday versus Coach. But
(18:26):
we gotta go now. We're forty seven percent through this thing.
And if you look at the rest of the league,
when you look at Baltimore and Buffalo, and when you
look at Kansas City, they're adding because they're getting ready
for the second alf. You stay pat if you want to,
We'll be having a very different conversation here in a
(18:46):
couple months, because you know I'm gonna tell the truth.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
At least I'll give you my version of the truth.
Let's go to the.
Speaker 6 (18:51):
Phone line, let's talk texta and shall we We got
Eric at home coming up at ten thirty. He's a
draft writer and a staff writer for NFL dot Com.
Ask him about Steph Diggs and the rest of the league.
Let's go to while let's go on the north side. Jacob,
good morning, Come on Stan.
Speaker 7 (19:08):
I know it's good radio, but come on, bro, what
are you talking about? They had the best wide receiver
of lead in the league far as all.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Of them combine.
Speaker 7 (19:18):
Look look look ahead, bro, They're gonna get old boy
back right.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
They're finna get the number one back.
Speaker 6 (19:26):
Jacob, I'm gonna let you finish. I'm gonna just ask
you a question. Do you know for certain that Nico
Collins is going to be back for Sunday Night football
versus Detroit?
Speaker 4 (19:34):
What I'm asking you?
Speaker 5 (19:35):
What you said? Yes, I'm asking you. Okay, so you
don't know? Continue, which is why I want to go insurance.
You're saying we shouldn't.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Okay, that's that don't even make sense.
Speaker 7 (19:49):
What are you talking I'm not in the locker room
when I'm talking about That's the last thing they need
is a receiver.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
They're good at receiver. They've been practicing.
Speaker 7 (19:58):
They're not gonna get some guy and like like a
big time like that what you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
And bring him off the street and he's finna contribute.
That's over with.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Start right there.
Speaker 5 (20:09):
So Andy Reid and Kansas City, who has the best
player in the league.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
If there was anybody that didn't.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
It was her Kansas City receiver.
Speaker 6 (20:17):
You're trying to tell me, and have been the model example.
They've been a model example of health.
Speaker 7 (20:26):
What I'm trying to Okay, Well, let me what I'm
trying to tell you. Baltimore really didn't have no receiver.
I'm gonna tell you, they gotta run back. Now they
have a running back.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
It's the emphasis is not gonna be on the passing
game right now.
Speaker 7 (20:37):
Until my man get back. Just just play action and
go with you.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
I mean, go with the guys you got. And they
got some good guys at the receiver. That's the last thing.
What they really need to line back. They got a
line back. That's what they needed. So they're good. They good.
Speaker 7 (20:55):
They got a trade for nobody and Nico to. I mean,
the coach will tell you that I houndestand you gave
good radio, bro, But you you're not an NFL GM man.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (21:06):
I've been paid. I've been paid. Okay, Jacob, Yeah, we're
done here. WHOA, there's one person in this whole building
that has been paid the scout NFL talent.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
I'm raising my hand right now. Now.
Speaker 6 (21:17):
It's blessing to God. I'm thankful for the opportunity. And
I did it for a short while because I like
media better. I like doing this more. Not a lot
of conversation when you're watching tape to your eyes about
to damn pop out. Sitting in Washington, thinking about damn
traffic on fort ninety five or something. I'm not telling
you I know Caserio's job better than him. I'm telling
(21:39):
you what he told us coming into the year. He
told us it wasn't enough. That's why when it got
step Diggs. And even though step Diggs ain't gonna play
for us anymore the rest of this season, I'm not
mad at using the second round pick moving out of
the seventeen spot in the first round of this past
draft to get an additional second round pick to go
(22:00):
and Steph Diggs.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
I ain't mad at it one bit.
Speaker 6 (22:01):
It was the right thing to do, and I applauded
Nick Casarrio for doing it. Now I hope he's playing court.
He can't believe that Nico Collins in tank. They'll are
enough when everybody else around you that is actually.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
Better than you.
Speaker 6 (22:14):
In Baltimore and Kansas City, we've already beaten Buffalo.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
We'll see can we do it again?
Speaker 6 (22:19):
They they staffed up and we're gonna stay pat Why
because MATCHI has one more year in the system. Hell
of a catch by match over there on the sideline
on Sunday. I like match, but this ain't about feelings.
This is about the facts. Those dudes have miss games,
all of them. Match Nico Tank, you don't get healthier
(22:44):
as the season goes on. We do understand this, I
understand some of y'all folks. Man, Garyan spring Man, Let's
get this in and then we'll talk to here again
on from NFL dot com.
Speaker 11 (22:54):
Hey Stan, good morning, man.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
I love your passion, but man, I think on your
drive in you need you need to cut down them,
express those that you get.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
Man.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
You probably want to expresso over the ends there. But
I understand your passion there, and I understand your radio
show and all that. But listen here they what's the
Texans record six and two? That's correct, okay, And you
had this passion after the first game.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
They need to do this.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
You want it to be fixed too quick. But guess
what the same people now they do need a receiver,
they need something on offensive line. But the people that
are in charge there see this too, and they're the
same ones that got you at six and two. So
guess what. These same people are gonna work their magic
and guess what's gonna happen If they repeat themselves after this,
(23:40):
it's gonna be twelve and four. Wouldn't you be happy
with twelve and four? So just let these people do
their work, man, and don't worry about it. It's a process.
It takes a minute to work out. It can't be
snapped and be done over twenty seven. But I love
your passion, man, I know what you're doing. You got
to get the people fired up and call in. And
that's why I'm called. You got me fired up, call in.
Speaker 11 (23:59):
But these people know what.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
They're doing, brother, and uh, and they everything you're saying
you're saying, they know that and they see that and
they're trying their best. So just give them a minute
and give them a little room and they'll they'll do
it's right. I think everything will work. Everything in then
will be what you call iight, my.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
Man, Gary in Spring here on a Wednesday, Texans boy
in the plane to go up to MetLife Stadium in
New York. We will talk more about this game on
the other side. I do I like Nicki Siria on
Demko and I trust them, But that don't mean I
trust everything they do. It could be lip service. Trade
deadline hasn't come and gone yet. We'll find out. They
(24:37):
told you how they feel about the wide receiver room.
When they win and got Diggs, they told you that,
I'm just it's not that hard. It's right in front
of you. Look around the rest of the league. You
think that Sario's smarter than Bret Brett Veach who has
multiple Super Bowl rings. In Kansas City, is the mik
O better coach than John Horbaugh?
Speaker 4 (24:55):
I don't know. John Horball has a ring been a while.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
Wherever you are in the city and whether you'll be
watching the Texans on tomorrow night, I assure you.

This is Next Time stuff with Stan Northfleet and Chris
Gordy during this Next State on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (26:01):
You're damn right. I'm fired up on a Wednesday Halloween.
Even more importantly, our Texans are going up to New
York to deal with Aaron Rodgers and whatever the hell
catastrophe they got going on in Flord Park, New Jersey,
the headquarters of the New York Jets.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
I need answers.
Speaker 6 (26:15):
We learned that Steph Diggs is not gonna be with
us the rest of the year, and I can't understand
nor comprehend. I am dumbfounded and even stupefied on what
the hell y'all are talking about. That everything's just gonna
be okay. The offensive line is just gonna fix itself.
Don't worry about why I receive a Nico ll be back,
But y'all can't tell me when man let me go
(26:36):
to the experts. I had to call somebody to assist
me with this. And now that Steph Diggs is down,
coming out of week eight, we head in the week nine.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
I need to know.
Speaker 6 (26:45):
Giving the arms race that's happening in the AFC, where
do the Texans stand?
Speaker 4 (26:50):
Now?
Speaker 6 (26:50):
How would this thing look if the playoffs were coming
up this weekend? Let's go somewhere up in Chicago.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Issue.
Speaker 6 (26:56):
You've seen his work on NFL dot Com drops by
the show every few months, so had to get him
in here because I've seen his power rankings. I might
yell at him too, ericad Home, NFL dot com Draft
Guru does a great job writing columns their staff writer, Eric,
Good morning to you, sir. Are you as firing up
as I am?
Speaker 11 (27:15):
Yes, I am, and I expect nothing less. You've always
done a good job.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
Of pointing out where I missed my bar spots. That's okay,
I like.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
That all right.
Speaker 6 (27:23):
So before we get to your power rankings, because I
find it interesting where you have the Texans. The news
breaks yesterday during lunch here in Central time zone. What
we off here? Steph Diggs is out and then five
minutes later, Deontay Johnson is leaving Charlotte and he's headed
to Baltimore.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
So really a two part question.
Speaker 6 (27:42):
Your thoughts on what the Texans are without Steph?
Speaker 4 (27:49):
Should they add a wide receiver? Second part.
Speaker 11 (27:53):
Yeah, well, let's do second part. First. You made an
interesting comment that I want to kind of circle back on.
You said, we don't really know when Nico Collins is
coming back. That's true, we really don't have a great idea. Now,
he could be activated prior to the week ten game.
That's always been, you know, seemingly the target for him
to come back, but there's no guarantee of that happening.
(28:14):
So I guess the answer to part you know, to
part one, what they're gonna look like and whether they
should make a move kind of depends on their outlook
for Nico. Now, it's not to say you couldn't add
a like if you feel pretty confident that Nico is
going to be back we ten and you know, and
and be in good shape there, I think you can
(28:35):
talk yourself into all right, we'll get something out of
the guys we have. Maybe we need to add one
more receiver. Doesn't have to be a big name, but
it's awfully tempting if you're willing to take on the
salary to see some of these prices for the receivers
going right now, I mean, costs aren't super high. If
you're willing to part with a uh, you know, like
(28:56):
a Day two pick for a for a quality receiver
and a Day three pick for a complimentary guy exactly
that it wouldn't be worth, you know, at least kicking
the tires and seeing what's out there. And I'm losing
Deontay and that possibility is tough, but you know there
might be other options out there.
Speaker 6 (29:13):
So all right, if you're City, if we are, you
and I, we're just sitting out, we're at the bar
having a dear, and we're acting like we're sitting in
Casario's chair, and I'll get to your power rankings because
we're going to back our way into this thing. Surprise, surprise,
you have the Ravens, the Bills, and the Chiefs ranked
ahead of the Texans in your power rankings. Going in
(29:35):
the Week nine, all three of those teams in the AFC,
all three of those teams added a wide receiver, Like,
isn't that telling us something like shouldn't Nick Casario be thinking, yeah,
I gotta go do something here? And I remind you
Eric Steph Diggs was on a one year deal, so
they were gonna have to draft a wide receiver position
again next year, whether it be through free agency or
(29:58):
the draft. So maybe I could go plug T Higgins
if they like him and pay him his money, and
now I have Nico and T Higgins for the next
three seasons. I don't know, I'm just playing with the
idea looking around the rest of the AFC.
Speaker 11 (30:11):
Oh sure, no, it doesn't hurt. I mean to just
sort of, could, you know, explore those ideas. Plus, you know,
you know there's no guarantee you're gonna be able to
get one of those free agents next year. You know,
I'll just wait till till March to Signier. Well no,
you know, like look at look at the sweat the
pass rusher in Chicago. You know they traded for.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Him last year.
Speaker 11 (30:32):
We're deadline, not even in contention, right, They weren't really.
I guess they nominally were at the end of the year.
But you know, would have taken a miracle for the
Bears to make the playoffs a year ago. But they
understood that, Look, instead of trying to get to the
front of the line and free agency, let's make the
move now. So that only amplifies it for a team
like Houston that is clearly in the playoff race. But
(30:54):
as you said, arguably is running you know, at best third,
at worst maybe fifth or sick X in the AFC
probably more. You know, I have him like you said, fourth,
uh in the in the tier there. But yeah, I
mean it's a need position. It would make sense to
to you know, you'd have two guys who could run
and catch the ball outside their frame on the on
(31:16):
the on the perimeter once SNKO gets back and te
just hypothetically, you know that that would be an outstanding
thing to have because I don't know how much you
can realistically count on John Metchi's stepping into a big
role complimentary roll sure, you know, same with with Hutchinson.
And we know Tank Dell is an explosive guy. You know,
(31:37):
he's you know, incrementally getting better post injury. We've seen
each game a little bit more. It feels like even
with the tough game up in Green Bay. I mean,
other than that, he's he's looked pretty good I think
the last few weeks.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
But some people it's one he's short.
Speaker 6 (31:54):
Some people are saying Robert Woods still has some tree
left hard at tires.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
I don't know that.
Speaker 6 (31:58):
My title game hopes hands on Bobby Trees catching a
ball from right I'm more at to go get a receiver.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
All right, to your power rankings.
Speaker 6 (32:07):
You have the Texans and back to back weeks they
stay flat from week seven through week eight at number eight.
Why do you have the Texans at first glance, for example,
ranked behind the Buffalo Bills, who the Texans beat. You
have the Bills at three, and you moved them up
two spots. Let's start there, while you got the Bills
ranked ahead of the Texans, giving the head dead.
Speaker 11 (32:29):
Yeah, I try to. I try to factor in the
head to head stuff whenever possible. And obviously when you
have two teams with you know, even records, that would
certainly make sense. But you know, and there and their
conference records gonna help them out. I think they're five
and zero against AFC teams up to fire recall, So
I mean that that's a good thing. But if you
want to take ask me right now who I would take.
(32:51):
Who I would bet on to make a bigger dent
in the playoffs. I didn't know Diggs was going to
be out for the season one hundred percent when I
made it ranking, But it didn't look great and I
sort of aired on the side of concern, you know,
So that was factored in a little bit as well.
You win a game, you lose a receiver.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
You know, you win a.
Speaker 11 (33:12):
Close game against a mediocre opponent, uh, and lose the receiver.
I'm not apt to move you up most weeks, but yeah,
I just think the Bills, even even with their struggles
in those two games against Baltimore and Houston, overall body work,
you know, they look terrific Sunday, and I think they're
an explosive team that can overcome mistakes. A little bit
(33:33):
better maybe, But I see your point, and I face
these questions every week. You know, hey, we beat that
team that's ahead of us, why are we there? But
there's a recency bias too that that I that I
factor in because you know it's a one game lead
or one week league, one week in a time league,
I guess is the best way to say it. But
things change fast.
Speaker 6 (33:54):
The voice of Eric at Holm, lead draft writer for
the NFL dot Com. Appreciate the expertise and the opinions there.
Will leave it on this one. If okay, if Steph
Diggs had you known he was out for the year
when you did these power rankings, you kept the Texans
(34:14):
at eight so really I'm saying, moving forward, if everything
were to stay as is, would you still have the
Texans at eight? Would you be as optimistic as many
of our listeners and have everything is going to be
all right? We haven't even talked about their guard or
would you bump them down with the subtraction of Steph
Diggs from the lineup.
Speaker 11 (34:34):
Hey, you mentioned the guard situation too. I mean, Ken
Young Green's been you know, they give them chances and
it's just it's tough watching the same thing happen again
and again. I mean, he would have been great if
Jared Patterson could have played and you finished the game,
and who knows what the status is for Thursday. I
would say, you know, those situations your veer towards out.
(34:54):
But yeah, you know, let's let's see how the Texans
do against a totally desperate this is our last shot.
We're probably already dead. But who knows Jets team right now?
Because you know, if they struggle in a one game
situation where they you know, like against a team that
has nothing to lose and you know it's basically their
(35:17):
season tonight, you know that that's obviously more concern. But
to your question, specifically. I kind of figured he was
out for the year, but didn't really know when I pushed,
you know, publish on that thing. It's gonna be tough.
Do I like him more than Pittsburgh, Yes?
Speaker 4 (35:33):
I do.
Speaker 11 (35:34):
Do I like him more than some of the other
AFC teams, Yes, But you know there's also that that
house of cards element that that scares me, where if
you you take one key piece out, the whole thing
can can fum up. And again, I'm not overrating Steph.
I I know what he is at this stage of
his career, but you know, given where they're at, that
was a tough position to suffer a big injury at.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
Step being still leading the Houston Texans and receptions. I'll
be Nico has been out for three games, second in
receiving yards for ninety two, tied for first with three
receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown to Booth. All right,
that is the time we have for mister Eric Edholm.
I appreciate him. He is Power Rankings guru, NFL draft
(36:16):
officionado for NFL dot Com. Dropping by next up to
hang out with fleeting Gordy. Eric will appreciate you, brother.
I probably won't bother you until somewhere around December where
we get what is it, three games in fifteen days,
something like that, Gordy, three games in twenty days. That's
just absolutely brutal. So I probably get you on somewhere
around then. Keep doing good work, brother, Thank you so much.
Speaker 11 (36:36):
Thank you, Happy Halloween. Talk to you a couple of months.
Speaker 6 (36:39):
Do that, man, We'll appreciate you all right. On the
other side, let's take these phone calls. Let's react to
some of the things Eric had to say. John and Richmond,
Tony and Sugarland will be the next two calls. On
the other side, the legendary KB and me to the next.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
To the distrol.
Speaker 8 (36:54):
This is next time on everything I wanted to say with.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Stand Or Fleets and Chris Gordy on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 12 (37:07):
Steph is you know been somebody who you know you
can lean on as a friend, as a teammate, as
a brother, somebody gives you life advice, you know, and
just somebody who just like just an O Jesus a vet.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
You know that.
Speaker 12 (37:17):
You know, it's played a lot of ball, you know,
is and lived a lot of life, you know, so
he's I feel like you know if he's still around,
he'll still be able to do those things. And you
know it's just not fortunate for him. You know that
he was that he had to go through this.
Speaker 6 (37:32):
So cole Riz Bernard Stroud the fourth on what Steph
Diggs has meant to him as a player and as
an individual, uh I called them a vet og in
the game has helped the young quarterback grow. I choose
to believe Steph Diggs having played with another elite talent
at the quarterback position in Josh Allen, albeit not seeing
(37:55):
out the eye, when you play with God, like when
ballers play with other ball you bring that information to
wherever you are. And CJ and just his second season,
needs as much intail on the NFL. How to prepare,
what to look for on tape, real game situations, how
do you adjust CJ's about to play on Thursday Night
(38:17):
Football for the first time. You don't think Steph Diggs
and others got in his ear about preparation. Here's what
I saw Josh do, Shaq Mason telling him, Here's what
I saw Brady do. So all of that stuff matters.
That's the behind the scenes stuff that you all listening.
Many of you who have not been fortunate enough to
be as close to the game as I have, and
others in a city like Houston and has so many players, coaches, gms, y'all,
(38:40):
there are a lot of NFL know it alls around here,
so there's a lot of information. But you need guys
like Steph Diggs that work their ass on this notion
that Steph Diggs wasn't helping this team and we're gonna
just sorry to lose you, Stamp, but it's just gonna
be okay. All the Texans gonna win games when Nico
gets back. Absolutely, Nico's a bauler. Can the Texans ride
(39:03):
Joe Mixon the victory? Absolutely? Joe Mixon's a baller.
Speaker 4 (39:07):
Is c J.
Speaker 6 (39:07):
Stroud gonna have one of those games for three fitty
and carve some dudes up throwing some darts. Yeah, he's
gonna have one of those here and there. But I'm
just not here that it's just gonna be okay if
we're gonna stand past. So yes, I get passionate, I
get emotional. I thank Eric at home of NFL dot Com,
who has his power rankings. The Texans are eight and
(39:29):
he did factor in. Uh, Steph Diggs and the A C. L.
By the way, you can follow Eric at Eric E
R I C Underscore.
Speaker 5 (39:42):
At home E D H O L M. Phone lines
are hot. Gord, you want to get a here before
we talk to the people.
Speaker 6 (39:47):
So you want to say you heard what Eric had
to say, power rankings, all those things. Anything you want
to add there.
Speaker 5 (39:53):
I was just noticing the Jets are gonna go all
black tomorrow nights blackout for Halloween.
Speaker 6 (39:59):
You bring up the Jets. There is breaking news on
the Jets. And thank you for adding that the Texans
are going complete Liberty white.
Speaker 5 (40:05):
So it's gonna be all white for the Texans. I
saw that announced better than going just plain white. Huh,
Liberty wise, it's a special shade of white, right. I
thought that was some Uh. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (40:15):
I don't know what I know.
Speaker 5 (40:17):
I've always made I always said I hate the deep
steel blue and Liberty white.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Please talking about it.
Speaker 5 (40:22):
It's different hues wearing white and blue.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
You are such a damn.
Speaker 5 (40:28):
The black does look pretty cool though, with the Jets
coloring and the green to beat the football team sucks.
Speaker 6 (40:33):
We do have a bit of breaking news as it
involves the Jets. Seven one three, two, one, two, five,
seven ninety one to get in. I'm gonna take these
phone calls. The Jets have placed kicker Greg Zerline on
injured reserve and sign kickers plural Spencer Schrader and Riley Patterson.
After going thirty five and thirty eight on field goals
(40:54):
last year, Zerline has struggled mightily this season, converting just
nine to fifteen field goals some sixty percent, with another
miss field goal and extra point on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (41:04):
So I brought this up yesterday.
Speaker 6 (41:06):
If this comes down to a tight ball game, I
trust Kimie Fairband more than I trust Greggs Airline. Now,
I have not done any homework on Spencer Schrader and
Riley Patterson.
Speaker 5 (41:17):
So somebody said if they go as Strader, it'll be
the second time Houston faces him this season. He played
in relief of Matt Gabe week one for the Colts,
made three extra points attempt at no field goals.
Speaker 6 (41:28):
All right to the phone lines, we go. People have
been waiting, Oh God, time is getting away from us here.
Johnny Richmond, good morning, You're next up?
Speaker 4 (41:36):
Hey, what's up? I want to give a shout out
to my boy j B.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
Thibodeau.
Speaker 11 (41:40):
Man went to high school with that cat.
Speaker 4 (41:41):
Good check man.
Speaker 13 (41:42):
Y'all, y'all go do your tame man after akers homes and.
Speaker 4 (41:45):
You already know Sunnyside all that my man J B.
B moving around.
Speaker 13 (41:49):
Yes, sir, Hey look here, man staying, I messed with you.
Speaker 1 (41:53):
I love you, man.
Speaker 13 (41:54):
But who are they supposed to go get if they
go all in today? Who are they supp go get
to feel that dig slot when I'm gonna hang up
and appreciate.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
John.
Speaker 6 (42:06):
The only thing And I just got this off the
top of my head. The short answer is, it's not
my job to find the name. It's Caserio's job to
find the name. That's what he gets paid the millions
plural to do. Go find thee. Now, I say t
Higgins just because I know he wants a contract. He's
a young receiver, has been productive, has been nicked up
in his own right. He's in a system comparable to
(42:27):
what Slower runs there in Cincinnati. So tase what comes
up off.
Speaker 5 (42:31):
The river one that's that's at the top of my
little Cooper cup out there. I think he's probably the
one you gotta pay the most for.
Speaker 6 (42:38):
Now what I've been told is that the Rams have
pulled Cup out of trade conversations. They'll make a run.
I have heard Adam Feelin's name thrown out there. Who's
up Kendrick Bourne in New England. So if I'm saying,
if I'm Casirio, if I'm gonna use capital to go
get a dude, I'm gonna go get a dude.
Speaker 5 (42:56):
Keep in mind, you have you have your first round
or next year, you have your own second. The Viking
second you got that's for the for Stefan Diggs. So
you still have your second, You have your third year,
your fourth, Uh, you don't have a fifth. So just
kind of looking, you know, what would you give up?
Would you go up a second for Cooper Cup? It's
(43:20):
pretty awesome. How many years left on his deal? What's
the money? What am I paying him? How old Izzy
was left? I'll look it up. He's also wasn't he
banged up? Early this year?
Speaker 4 (43:32):
He and puking the coup bowls and miss some game.
He gets backed up just about it. So we'll do that.
Speaker 6 (43:36):
How about we carry that. Let's carry that making a
ton of cash. Let's carry that to the other side.
Apologies ran a little bit of time. The original DeAndre.
You will be after Tony Schugland. Hopefully you can hold tight.
Let's kick off the eleven o'clock hour and Demiko upset
me again yesterday he doubled down on something that is
absolutely atrocious. Can't believe to Miko's doing this. I will
(44:00):
get excited about t Higgins. He's a stud. And if you, sir,

this program.
Speaker 4 (46:19):
No, Steph Diggs.
Speaker 6 (46:20):
I'm saddened, but I'm more pissed that many of you
believe life will just be okay. Y'all sound like Demiko
taking a podium in the last two days telling us
that the offense line they're gonna take yourself. Nothing to see
here at the left guard spot and others, because that
right guard spot quietly.
Speaker 4 (46:36):
Hadn't been great either. But we'll get to that here.
Speaker 6 (46:38):
I momentarily, I promised Gordon we would get to the
people been holding longer than I like for my folks
to hold. So let me pay that all. Tony and

I like you gohead, Tony.
Speaker 1 (47:24):

Speaker 9 (47:28):
You you're an expert giving you know, placing it takes
somewhere place in the text and giving a you know,
giving that. Given that example, it's like the guy was
looking for something to say. Man, I get that these
experts don't see what they thought they see out of
the text, and that's when it comes. But the texting
on the number two seed in the A f C.
Bro like that, just COK what you want and then

Speaker 4 (47:49):
I get it.
Speaker 9 (47:49):
You want us to be concerned, but we six in
two right now. There's no needs to be concerned when
you're seixed in tooth stand. Just six in two. You
got the second best record in the MC right now.
But we lose two game the road stand, and we
and and and then we're worried about that. Then you
can probably gonna get some people calling your show saying
we need to get I'm just I'm just telling you
the realization of the matter right at the end of
the day.
Speaker 1 (48:10):
That's what the cause concerned is.
Speaker 9 (48:11):
And then my last thing is, we'll beat the Jets by.
Speaker 1 (48:15):
Twenty today, it's by tomorrow. We beating the Jets by Twitter.
Speaker 4 (48:19):
First with Nono, with no Steph, with.
Speaker 9 (48:22):
No Nego, no steps by twe you beating the Jets
by tweeting on the road.
Speaker 1 (48:26):
Tweet on the road.
Speaker 4 (48:28):
Bro, I'll take that lunch bit. I'll take that lunch beck,
I got you.
Speaker 8 (48:32):
I got it.
Speaker 6 (48:33):
We'll meet somewhere out there in sugar Land. What was
I just saying, Oh, you can meet me at Emminte Cigards.
I like them out dare in sugar Land. Then my
folks I like them too, do it so we can
go out there and we'll get a couple on you
or a couple on me. Gentlemen's bet I got Tony
in sugar Land. Appreciate you, brother. All Right, I'm gonna
say something. I want to respond to that, but I
want to make sure I'm respectful to original DeAndre. You
(48:55):
are next up here with Gordian Fleet next up.
Speaker 14 (48:57):
Good morning to you guys. Man stand man, you know, man,
you know, listen to my wonderful fellow Houston callers, and
I can't believe they were willing to stand pat with
this wide receiver situation. Man, I cannot, I cannot believe
in this, but I expect everybody's opinion.
Speaker 1 (49:17):
Man.
Speaker 14 (49:17):
But anyway, man, I know y'all mentioned the guys Adam,
Adam Thielen and Cooper Cup saying saying, stand, you played
in the league, and I know you're community familiar with
the U.
Speaker 6 (49:29):
I had a couple of cars. They showed me around
the building and tell me to get the hell out.
I couldn't pass physical but go ahead, and I'm listening
to you.
Speaker 14 (49:36):
Yeah, possession and receiver, man, we have plenty of those already. Man,
I think we need somebody with some speed. Man. Yeah,
can't run fast, but he more quick than fast in
my opinion. I mean, don't get me wrong, he got
some speed. I'm talking about that, like we really missing
Nico speed. You can't really replace that four four speed
the Nico had. So hopefully when he comes back, but
(49:58):
they you know, you know, staying dealing with the It's
a very titchy.
Speaker 4 (50:01):
Situation, man.
Speaker 14 (50:02):
It's the hamp fring can go out at any time, man,
you know what I mean, even when he comes back.
I agree, But yes, sir, but one more TV before
I go. Man, check the weather for tomorrow's game. Seventy
two degrees, no rain. You can't ask for build a
weather than that, man, and hang up and listen.
Speaker 4 (50:18):
Appreciated weather. It was a factor.
Speaker 6 (50:20):
It got a little wet out there last year, remember
that going there. They had some rain at some point.
I think it was in the second half of that game.
Up at Metlaight Stadium. The worst turf that Miko was
asked about the turf. We'll get to him in just
a little bit. The worst turf in the league. Nobody
likes Medlight Stadium turf. It's absolutely awful, I'll say, for
playing up there this time of year though you lucked out.
Speaker 4 (50:42):
Agreed.
Speaker 5 (50:42):
It's normally cold, windy, miserable heading it in November.
Speaker 6 (50:48):
So yeah, you lucked out. I was looking up something.
He was talking about speed. I'm trying to find this
real quick on the old Twitter machine. Here, what did
hutch run his forty n I was trying to do
a quick Wikipedia search.
Speaker 4 (51:01):
Oh, here it is. What a hutch run? Is he
a four to four guy? Four five three average? Okay?
Just curious?
Speaker 6 (51:11):
All right? Uh oh, and this is what I want
to say. My guy Tony in Sugarlane hit me up.
I do hope the Texans win now by twenty. I
mean that's aggressive. We'll see. I'll have my predictions tomorrow.
So the Texans wide receivers for tomorrow Robert Woods, Tank Dale,
(51:32):
Xavier Hutchinson, John met You met you the third? Steven Simms.
Maybe yep, that's you're five. That's the five you're going with.
It sounds a lot like the last time I saw
this team play in the postseason. Oh, they had Robert Woods.
Oh and Metchi was active. Oh, Ann Xavier Hutchinson was active.
(51:56):
Now they didn't have Tank, but they did have Nico
and they went to Baltimore. Everybody remember how that went
zero offensive touchdowns, ten points scored total. And Baltimore added
a wide receiver in Kansas City added a wide receiver,
and Buffalo added a wide receiver. And all three of
those teams have been further than the Texans have ever been.
(52:21):
And y'all want me to believe it's a good idea
to just stand pat now, don't mistake my passion for
do something. Caserio meaning he should have done something yesterday.
He let the Deontay Johnson deal come and go. What
did I see? I saw that A league source told
the Houston Chronicle on Tuesday morning that the Texans general
manager Nick Cassio had not reached out to the Carolina
(52:45):
Panthers to express interest in Deontay Johnson. Caserio didn't want to,
didn't make a phone call. So is that Caserio being coy?
Is that him saying that the price was too high
for him, or that Deontay doesn't fit in what slow
it wants to do.
Speaker 4 (52:59):
I don't know. I must trust and Demico and Casario
dard other way. I think they believe in trusting.
Speaker 5 (53:05):
You know, same thing when when the Astros bring up
a Spencer Arraghetti, you believe in the guy you've developed
and you drafted, and you invested a draft pick in
and a John Metchin Exevier Hutchinson.
Speaker 4 (53:16):
You time to shine, and just like the.
Speaker 6 (53:18):
Astros, the Texans have an opportunity to get deep into
the postseason. Or what's the cost? You always factor the costs.
My point is the Astros have proven to be wrong recently.
They did not add enough arm insurance this past season.
And when they did his name is you say Kakuchi?
It was air quotes expensive. So now I'm asking the
(53:39):
Texans don't make the mistake that the Astros may go
get you some hand insurance, whether it be on the
short term bargain being basement deal, even if it costs
you a mid round pick.
Speaker 4 (53:51):
Fine, they have a super Bowl window. Now you're second
place in the AFC.
Speaker 6 (53:55):
Right now, you have an opportunity to host a divisional
playoff game. Right now, we don't know what next year
is going to be at. Eric Anholm of NFL dot
Com told us that Gordon, we have no idea of
knowing if a free agent is going to choose Houston
versus somebody else's money in the offseason. We don't know
where the text is gonna fall and what receivers will
(54:15):
be available.
Speaker 4 (54:16):
Adding a young guy here.
Speaker 6 (54:18):
The window is open down all of the same reasons
or all of the reasons that you went and got
step Diggs in the first place still exists. Nothing has changed.
Tank Dale isn't having the greatest season he's ever had.
John Matchie isn't looking like he's going to get a
contract extension here, though I hope he does. The production
on the field just has not been there, and Xavier
(54:39):
Hutchinson has not made this.
Speaker 4 (54:41):
Leap that we all hoped he would.
Speaker 6 (54:43):
As of yet, we're forty seven percent through the regular season,
So I gotta go about what's now On Tuesday, not
only do we go to the polls for those that
haven't voted early, we got to make a decision about
this roster. And it ain't just a wide receiver position.
There's another position that's more critical than that. Casario, don't
overthink this hand insurance, close us out raise sugar hand.
Speaker 1 (55:08):
Okay, well, here's what I gotta say, guys.
Speaker 15 (55:10):
I watched two games last week and the week before
they looked identical. It was the fourth quarter, two minutes
to go in the game, and we still ran the
ball up the cut six times and didn't get anything.
So the deal is is, yeah, I think we should
go after a top tier receiver, somebody on the line,
(55:31):
and any other thing, cornerback, and go after a top
tier in all three areas. You won't get all three,
but if you get one.
Speaker 1 (55:37):
Out of three, then you're good.
Speaker 15 (55:39):
But I just don't like the attitude or the textas
thinking that everything's okay, because every every time they have
a post game interview it sounds the same, whether we
win or loose, they're saying the same thing. And that's
the whole harm thing that's gonna get us a loss.
We need to change a little bit of our attitude
and say if we're gonna go get it, we're gonna
go get it. I'm waiting around for these losses to
(56:02):
hit us, because they're gonna hit us. Just so far,
we've been lucky and it's sixty two. So that's that's
all I got.
Speaker 6 (56:08):
My man Ray and sugar Land mentioning the offensive line,
Demiko was asked about it again, and.
Speaker 4 (56:18):
I don't like this. I'm just not with coach on
this one.
Speaker 5 (56:21):
I'll explain on the other side, more names have emerged
to add to the Texans outside of the wide receiver position.
Speaker 4 (56:27):
What names and what position? We discussed the legendary KB and.
Speaker 2 (56:31):
Me back to Stanton, Northfleet and Chris Gordy on Sports Talk.
Speaker 6 (56:38):
Oh about forty minutes from now, you'll hear the voices
of Matt Thomas and Rossvillrial to Matt Thomas Show. They'll
take you from noon to three until then you have
Gordy myself. There's Connor on the other side. Thank him
for his effort. When you give us a shout at
seven one three, seven ninety, the voice you hear is
Connor McGovern. He'll get you teated up. We'll come to
you here in just a second. Uhi wants to chime
(57:01):
in on the Texans and the wide receiver position. You
know what, Let's do that now. I'm gonna throw a
bit of a curveball. Connor Demiko was asked about how
Metchi and Xavier Hutchinson have been playing thus far.
Speaker 4 (57:16):
Here it is let me in that Demiico five please Yeah.
Speaker 10 (57:19):
One thing that sticks out, hutch match. I mean all
these guys just from our last game, like just showing
guys winning their one on one opportunities, hutch you know,
going to the ground there, making a tough catch. Letchie
finding a way to win in an off schedule a
moment they're in the game and come up with a
big catch. That's that's all we ask is win. You're
one on one and make the plays that you're supposed
(57:43):
to make. If guys do that, like collectively as a team, will.
Speaker 1 (57:46):
Be just fine.
Speaker 6 (57:47):
Demiko Ryan's on the play most recently on Sunday of
Hutch and Match Gordi a name that we haven't brought
up before. I come to you, biscuit c J Stroud
in absence of Nico car And that's another of the
reason I'm excited about Thursday. I want to see first
Thursday night game for CJ on the road in the
(58:08):
place he got concussed a year ago, going up against
a talented, desperate, underperforming Jets team. A lot of chaos,
firing coaches, demoting play callers on offense, all the things. Now,
CJ doesn't have his number one or number two great
quarterbacks in this league, and you go pick a name.
(58:30):
I saw Mahomes win a world title without Tyreek. Yo,
You've seen great players go win without dudes. I want
to see if CJ can elevate his crew. Can he
be so excellent pre and post snap?
Speaker 4 (58:45):
Can he be good enough.
Speaker 6 (58:48):
That he essentially gets the best out of match and
hutch and all those things.
Speaker 5 (58:53):
I think we're gonna see a lot of screens. I
think we're seeing a lot of passes to the running backs.
Check that it should be a big backing tight end night.
I don't anticipate a ton of and maybe we're wrong.
Take Dale forty yards, Xavier Hutchison, uh sixteen yard hits,
run after the catch, forty yards touchdown. I don't know
(59:15):
that we're gonna see fireworks. I think you're gonna. Yeah,
let's let's set some over under. It's Kate Stover two catches,
Dalton Schultz four catches. I'm gonna take the over on Schultz,
Dario gab Walle two to three catches. I'll take the
under two. H Uh, Joe Mixon four catches.
Speaker 4 (59:36):
I like that.
Speaker 5 (59:37):
Yeah, I might take. You're gonna have to, They're gonna
have to. Dan's gonna have to get involved. Yeah, Now
you're gonna have to take shots down the field. Uh,
but they just from a personnel standpoint, obviously, no Nico tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (59:51):
We'll see if he's back. Uh in ten days or
eleven days now, when the Detroit Lions are here for
Sunday Night.
Speaker 4 (59:58):
Football Battle Red Day.
Speaker 6 (59:59):
Take that God and Tony and Sugar Lamb real quick,
because I know Biscuit wants to talk wide receivers. Here
are the twenty twenty five free agent white receivers. So
these are the names that, if they haven't already been moved,
a team that is likely not to make the postseason
might be willing to do a deal with Cassario because
(01:00:19):
they may or may not be retaining their players. Number
one on the list by money Steph Diggs. Number two
on the list at still twenty five years old. T Higgins,
he's on the franchise tag. We'll see what they do there.
There's Keenan Allen, he's in Chicago. Amari Cooper just got
traded to Buffalo. Chris Godwin, I think he's done for
the year. Here's a guy, and I don't think it's
(01:00:41):
gonna happen given some dynamics politically, but you know, the
Texans really need to replace Steph Diggs. He was a
guy that's previous to hear Brandon Cooks would be excellent
to fit in the situation the Texan find themselves zero
chance of happening. Brandon Cooks returns to eighth down. He's
off ir and practicing in Dallas. Deontay Johnson just got
(01:01:03):
traded to Baltimore. Nuke Hopkins just got traded to Kansas City.
And there's a thirty year old Mike Williams who things
have not worked out for him for the Jets in
New York. A couple other names. There's Robert Wood Hollywood
Brown is hurt and returning in Kansas City. Darius Slayton
for the New York Giants. kJ Osborne the name that
has popped up. Both Slayton and Osborne are twenty seven.
(01:01:25):
kJ Osborne is in New England.
Speaker 4 (01:01:28):
Gordon.
Speaker 6 (01:01:28):
As we go through these names, DeMarcus Robinson is thirty
years old. He plays for the Rams. Nelson Aguilore is
not leaving Baltimore. The Colts are not giving us. Ashton
Dooland Odell Beckham Junior is out there. You want Odell No,
He's been banged up a little bit and had done
a damn thing for the Dolphins lost.
Speaker 5 (01:01:46):
I'm intrigued by Michael Thomas. I don't know what happened
with him in New Orleans. I know he wasn't happy
with life after Drew Brees they had a falling out. Yeah,
I remember he got he got suspended for week one
of this season. Now, I believe they said it was
a violation of the personal contact policy. I believe they
(01:02:07):
said even though he's not on a team, the suspension
was served, so he's available. I guess that tells you
something that nobody's called about him.
Speaker 6 (01:02:20):
Unless they've called and he said no, no, no, I'm
waiting on the right city, the right situation, in the
right money. He's been waiting in a while. He may
be saying, I'm waiting. He's made great money. He's not
really worried about the cash. I can't imagine. Perhaps he is.
I don't know the brother's finances, Biscuit. Let's talk to
some wide receivers before we pivot. Go ahead, brother.
Speaker 16 (01:02:37):
Saying before I get to the wide receivers, I'm gonna
say this again, Sam, welcome to Houston, because if you
got some fans that think the detection you're talking about saying,
you're talking about making a playoff, you're talking about going
deep in the playoffs. If you think that the Texans
went out of Steph Diggs, it's gonna go deep in
(01:02:59):
the playoffs with Nego and thank Dale and some of
the mother guys.
Speaker 1 (01:03:03):
You you delusion on man, you you.
Speaker 16 (01:03:05):
Are exactly right, saying they that's why they went and
made the movie Steph Diggs first, exactly.
Speaker 5 (01:03:12):
And that's why they called about Keenan Allen, and that's
why they called the agency that represents Mike Williams like
it just followed the does cause Serio knows this.
Speaker 16 (01:03:21):
And nothing saying don't get don't listen to the people
saying working behind the scenes, make the appreciate it. Now,
Beyontay Johnson that you know mamb he has some attitude
issues with Pittsburgh, so they might have been off. He
might have been off the off the page for him.
Speaker 4 (01:03:38):
Well what has what? What has cas shown us? Right?
Speaker 6 (01:03:42):
So they said the same thing about Steph Diggs. Oh
he's on his third team and what is his attitude?
Speaker 16 (01:03:47):
They love to do so a little different his attitude
a little different now, saying we got to take him
on the field quitting and you know Steph Giggs, you know,
maybe some talking on the sideline, but when he got
on the field, he was you know what I'm saying,
So that's a different We're talking about different dynamic or whatever.
But I'm just saying you said they gonna make a move. Man, No,
(01:04:10):
these Houston's people has no way.
Speaker 4 (01:04:12):
Man.
Speaker 16 (01:04:12):
You gotta why the window was open right now, Gordy,
gotta go why the window's open. You gotta do what
you got because you guess what the other teams that
you're against.
Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
It's an orange race.
Speaker 16 (01:04:24):
They're improving it.
Speaker 9 (01:04:24):
They're improving.
Speaker 10 (01:04:25):
You gotta improve.
Speaker 16 (01:04:27):
That's how it is.
Speaker 4 (01:04:28):
I totally agree.
Speaker 6 (01:04:29):
I appreciate the call, my guy Biscuit giving us a
shout here Gordy talking about the wide receiver.
Speaker 8 (01:04:36):
Ro Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:04:39):
I'm looking at the clock that I really want to
start something here, and I can't you agree with me, Gordy,
No chance to hell Brandon Cooks returns to Houston.
Speaker 5 (01:04:47):
I mean he's injured and whatever he comes back off,
I are they got to activate him and all this,
and I mean there was some bad blood when he
got uh when he was here last time, in the
middle of this whole thing turning into a dumpster fire.
Speaker 6 (01:05:04):
But let me look up some stuff real quick. How
how has T Higgins been in Cincinnati?
Speaker 4 (01:05:11):
It is good? Has it? Let me?
Speaker 5 (01:05:13):
I still think they're not willing to pull the Ripcord.
I think they still look at it as VIC franchise.
M again, well no, well we'll see what. But I'm
saying they want him for this season. They feel like
with T Higgins, Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow they can
still turn this thing around. They're three and four. I
don't have I'm off the Cincinnati train. Okay, you can be.
(01:05:33):
I'm just telling you their approaches. They believe they still
have a chance. Now Burrow was done for the year. Yeah,
they probably flipped and they're in the AFC.
Speaker 6 (01:05:40):
Nor if they know good and well, they're not passing
the Steelers or the Ravens, who both.
Speaker 5 (01:05:45):
Let's have a three game lead. Baltimore has a two
games lead at a walk card. Now look at the
AFC walkcard picture.
Speaker 6 (01:05:51):
I'm looking at the conference standings and their Cincinnati at
the nine spot at three and one behind, and then
four and three fall apart the charge Rogers, I mean,
Jorge run the finalists, Herbert who cares the Broncos.
Speaker 4 (01:06:04):
That's a house of cards waiting to fall.
Speaker 5 (01:06:06):
Anybody buy them at as five and three, you know,
playoff I guess playoff contenders.
Speaker 6 (01:06:11):
If I'm Casirio, I would call over there and ask
Mike Brown, Hey, real talk, Mike, are you really gonna repay?
Are you going to pay t Higgins next year?
Speaker 8 (01:06:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:06:22):
Could you make a run this year? Look at your team?
Speaker 6 (01:06:26):
Do you really believe y'all can beat Kansas City with
this team? Now, Mike Brown would probably say I've beaten
him with a worst team than we have right now. Now,
I might push back on that because that team had
both Samajer p Ryan and Joe Mixon. The backfield looked
a little different, but that's neither here nor there. I
was gonna say, maybe call the Titans on Calvin Ridley.
(01:06:46):
I didn't realize he signed four two million. So look
that I keep saying this and we gotta go to break.
I'll take these calls on the other side because I
want to talk about somethemester. Miko had to say, they're
gonna have to pay another receipt. They've already paid Nico
tank Dale. They can wait another year after next year
(01:07:08):
and he'll be eligible for an extension, but you still
need Tank. They don't have to pay Tank next year.
Oh yeah, So they got another year after this before
they have to pay Tank. So they were gonna have
to go, whether Diggs panned out or not, whether it
was Diggs returning, or they went into the draft and
used perhaps a first round pick on a wide receiver,
(01:07:29):
they were gonna have to add another guy. Anyway, It's
just been that that has been moved up. All right,
let's continue to take these phone calls. Seven one three,
two one two five seven ninety is Fleet is staying
thirty minutes from now, will do the Matt Thomas Show.
I got Chad and Anthony and deer Park on the
other side, real Texas talk and listen to seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
And back up now down door Fleet and Chris Gordions
next up on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 14 (01:08:01):
Man.
Speaker 6 (01:08:01):
We are about twenty six minutes ago here in seven
ninety gallerya area to be precise at Chris Gordy at
stand Sportsman. Of course, we're at Sports Talk seven ninety,
Texas in action Namar in New York with the news
on Steph Diggs being done for the year with an
ACL The wide receiver talk has dominated this show an
(01:08:22):
hour and a half that we're been in operation here
and we had Eric ed Hoolme from NFL dot Com.
He's one of their writers. Does a great job. He
comes by here, oh about once every two three months
or so. We'll get him on, probably towards the end
of the season, going into the playoffs, where the Texans,
we would like to think, are headed number two seed
in the AFC. As we began to start Week nine,
(01:08:44):
news flash, Texans loser receiver. Everybody else in the AFC
that's ranked ahead of the Texans adding a wide receiver.
Let's get some arm insurance. Nico, Sirio, don't overthink this.
You can steal two things can be true. You can
have confidence in the guys you've drafted. And I'm going
(01:09:04):
to add and make a strength stronger and give my
young quarterback when he's not getting hit. I need more
guys catching the football and doing something with it after
the catch. And Casario, I remind you Tank Dale miss
his games. Nico Collins missus games, John Metcha the third
missus games. That's not me wishing that on those men.
(01:09:25):
That's just the documented history. You don't get healthier as
the season plays out. That's not how this game works.
All right, let's take these phone calls, and now I
want to hear something else from Demico on a certain
position group.
Speaker 4 (01:09:37):
Chad on the west side of the city.
Speaker 8 (01:09:39):
What up, Hey, what's up guys, Thanks for taking my
calls right listen, I haven't I haven't really been listening
to the show, but only for about ten minutes. But
I got a name I want to throw out for
wide receivers. He's a free agent, comes from a passing offense.
Is Darius Slayton. Darius Slayton fit this offense really well
(01:09:59):
and I'll yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:10:01):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 6 (01:10:01):
I know you guys are coming in and out of
the show in the station on a regular basis, taking
care of your business.
Speaker 4 (01:10:06):
Gordon.
Speaker 6 (01:10:07):
Darius Slayton's name. He's wide receiver in New York with
the Giants right now. His name did come up in
the first album. What do you think about Slayton?
Speaker 5 (01:10:14):
I think he makes a lot of sense because he's
he's still productive. He's got what playing every game for
the Giants so far this year twenty I catches for
under twenty yards, has a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (01:10:23):
Still just twenty seven years old.
Speaker 5 (01:10:25):
And the reality is they just drafted Malik Neighbors. They
have one Dale Robinson, who they're very high on, a
good drafted last year. So that's there one and two.
Slayton's really the three and let's be real. I mean,
Giants aren't going anywhere this season, so you know what's
the price of playing poker there. I don't know if
i'd give up a second, but I'd give I give
him a day too big?
Speaker 6 (01:10:45):
A second, yeah, a third. Let me see what Slayton
has done is a rental. Let's see, he's still twenty
seven years old. He's just had one hundred yard game
the other night. Six played his college ball at Auburn.
For that aren't familiar with him from the Atlanta area,
let me take a look at his career here.
Speaker 4 (01:11:05):
How's it? What a nice career.
Speaker 6 (01:11:06):
Last year he caught fifty balls last year forty sixty
year before that he had fifty his second in the league.
So he's averaging somewhere in the high forty, mid the
high forties in terms of catches per season. He's pacing
ahead of that right now. Twenty nine catches, just one touchdown,
fourteen and a half yards per reception is decent in
(01:11:29):
the league. He has started in six of the eight
games he's played in, so he's been available for all
eight games, all start.
Speaker 4 (01:11:37):
Can Robert Woods give you that like what he's doing?
Right now.
Speaker 5 (01:11:42):
Is he a clear upgrade over you know this mix
of Metchie Hutchinson Robert Woods.
Speaker 6 (01:11:50):
But again, I think he's better than Robert Woods. They
loved free agent. Robert Woods would not be playing for me.
I've said that a gazillion times now. When he does
something good, have to acknowledge that he did something good.
When he does something bad and it I haven't seen
him do some special teams. That's just like I mean,
I'll take the return going vertical on the return that
led to the Coyaomi kick, right thing to do.
Speaker 4 (01:12:12):
I get it. But Robert Woods would not be on
my team when I could have saved five million bucks.
That's just me. Casario feels different. Anthony and deer Park
get it.
Speaker 8 (01:12:20):
In Hey, good morning guys. Hey so Stan, I agree
with you. Two things can be true. I don't really
want to see the Texans sell the farm to get
a number one. I think Nico has been and always
will be, at least for the foreseeable future, beat this
team's number one white out. I would like to see
(01:12:41):
the Texans go get a true number two, a solid,
solid guy to come in and complement Nico. I think
that the offensive line has to get fixed. I feel
like if you're if you're huddling up. You know Calvin
Johnson and his prime and Randy mosson his prime, but
Cjing got time to set his feed and throw, You're
gonna have problems. Now with that being said, I saw
(01:13:04):
a Sports Illustrated article yesterday that the Broncos are willing
to listen on Courtland Sutton. Just curious And if you
haven't seen that article, I'll send it to you on
X right now. But I think Courtland Sutton would be
a phenomenal fit to compliment Nico in this offense.
Speaker 5 (01:13:22):
Interesting. Thank you for the update. Again, I go back
to you put yourself in the Bronco shoes. Why would
you do that? You're in the thick of the playoff hunt.
Why would you give up one of your key pieces?
Speaker 6 (01:13:32):
Six four two sixteen so built like a Nico played
his college ball in smut to Courtland Suttony's from Brenham
for those that may not know that, twenty nine years
of age. Yeah, let me look at his games play
because all you what, why is Denver giving him up?
Price might be right, No, the price isn't right.
Speaker 5 (01:13:51):
They got Marvin Mims in Courtland Sutton, didn't they They
traded away Jerry Judy, right, Yeah, yeah, they trade away
Jerry Judy.
Speaker 6 (01:13:58):
Because they have Courtland Sutton. Cortland Sutton has two Tuddies
on the year. He's called fifty nine balls excuse me,
twenty nine receptions on fifty nine targets and.
Speaker 5 (01:14:07):
They are currently the five seed in the FC if
the playoffs started today.
Speaker 6 (01:14:10):
Yeah, he probably gonna keep that intact. But I read
the Sports Illustrated article. Let me hear that sside dot
com article. All right, let me do this talk it.
I'm up against it again. All right, I'm gonna have
to wait and hold it over. Domiko. It's hard going
when I like people. It happens with me and you
all time. I like you. But then sometimes stuff gets
(01:14:32):
set on these airways. Dimiko said some things, and I
just I don't understand. And if it were another team
in town that wears orange and blue and plays their
home games downtown, when they start getting organizational arrogance, and
it makes.
Speaker 4 (01:14:48):
My skin crawl a bit, I don't like it.
Speaker 6 (01:14:51):
The game now, the nature of the NFL and the
nature of pro baseball are different, but the Astros sometimes
organizational arrogance gets in their way.
Speaker 4 (01:15:00):
It has blinded them. And I'm talking about the two
seasons that I have been here.
Speaker 6 (01:15:04):
This is the first time I'm hearing the Texans, and
I hope it's a lot of gamesmanship. I hope behind
the scenes, Dimiko and Cassario are doing the right things.
But I'm hearing stuff that is going to cost this
team games. And when they double down on certain things,
it just drives me insane. I have to get to this.
(01:15:25):
On the other side. We'll wrap up a Wednesday here,
Halloween Eve. Texans getting on the plane. They're headed to
New York where they'll face the New York Jets tomorrow.
Jets still holding as a two point favorite. To me,
Coome's driving me crazy. Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
Ninety Next Up continues.
Speaker 1 (01:15:45):
On your phone.
Speaker 2 (01:15:47):
Listen to Sports Talk seven ninety on any device with
our free iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (01:15:56):
Kenyan is done.
Speaker 10 (01:15:57):
Kenyan, of course, like I said yesterday, he had some
bad plays. A lot of guys have some bad plays,
you know, and everybody's asking about Kenyon, and nobody feels,
you know, worse about this than Kenyan, right.
Speaker 4 (01:16:11):
And nobody. He knows he has to play better.
Speaker 10 (01:16:14):
He will play better and let's go to work, Like
that's what it's about. It's not about everybody trying to
figure out Kenyan out, and like, let's letus Kenyan is ready,
He'll be ready to roll and we'll we won six
games with Kenyan, like we gotta keep going.
Speaker 6 (01:16:31):
Dimico ryans from the podium yesterday after giving us the
news that Steph Diggs will not be with this team
the remainder of the year due to an ACL tear.
As someone that has torn mine still needs surgery on
some of it. Got to get that cleaned up one
of these days. Nonetheless, Steph Diggs twenty four season done.
He will be missed. I remind you for those that
(01:16:51):
didn't hear as I opened the show, Steph Diggs leads
this team in receptions with forty seven, second on the
team and receiving yards behind Nico for ninety two, tied
for first with three receiving touchdowns, and we were called
the rushing touchdown as well. Steph Diggs don't just grow
(01:17:13):
on trees. The way he attacks the position in preparation.
He is a bully, regardless of his stature. He's not
a guy that's going to be intimidated by opposition by
you know, geography and the atmosphere of a game.
Speaker 4 (01:17:30):
He's kind of been there, done that.
Speaker 6 (01:17:33):
You need those guys, and he still has enough in
the taint that he can lead you in receiving and
win a game.
Speaker 4 (01:17:41):
I've seen it happen.
Speaker 6 (01:17:44):
Now they don't have him, and I know that's Demiko
talking about Kenyon Green, but the mentality seems to be
the same. Domiko was a bit perturbed when asked multiple times,
what are you going to do with the left left
guard in Kenyon Green? He just told us just there, Oh,
he's gonna be fine. Everything's gonna be okay. They say
(01:18:08):
that every week, and yet your quarterback is among the
most pressured, sacked and hit in the league. Oh well,
and then being duplicitous staying up, we're gonna go with
Kenyon Well, you mentioned for j Patterson, So what do
you call that You did not give ken Drick Green
(01:18:31):
an opportunity.
Speaker 4 (01:18:34):
I brought it up yesterday.
Speaker 6 (01:18:35):
I've heard other folks in the media locally, maybe we
should explore putting Titus back over there for a while. Well, stand,
Titus is off our guard. He's better than Kenyan Green. Gordon,
the head coach, tells me we've won six games with
Kenyon Green. No, you've won six games in spite of
Kenyon Green, and coach, you might have won seven or
(01:18:57):
eight games. Now we take the Minnesota ass whooping, take
that out. Maybe won in spite of him. Maybe you
would have won more. Maybe your quarterback would have been
hit less if somebody else was in there instead of him. Now,
to Coach's point, not every single rep that Kenyon has
played has been awful. And yes, we can look at
(01:19:20):
some metrics on Shaq Mason has surrendered five sacks, the
same amount as Kenyon Green. I saw a graphic on
that recently. But to tell me that we're gonna just
stand pack not only at receiver, but we're gonna stand
pat on the offensive line too, why is the Miko double?
He doubled down. Go ahead, let me get you after this,
he kept going, he continued, did the Miko on Kenyon Green?
(01:19:44):
H Kenyon Green has had some bad reps, but he's
also had.
Speaker 4 (01:19:47):
Some good ones.
Speaker 10 (01:19:48):
Yeah, for me, I go back and I go to
the film, right, You go to the film and you
show players right what they've done well and the good
reps that they've had, and just get to doing that.
Like ken has had a lot of good reps for us,
and I expect him to have some good reps this Thursday.
Speaker 6 (01:20:06):
Coach Kenyon Green has had more bad reps than good.
He's He's God. It help me here? What am I missing?
Speaker 7 (01:20:16):
So?
Speaker 4 (01:20:16):
Let me just take a step back.
Speaker 6 (01:20:17):
When I'm with my boys or some of my homegirls,
maybe me and Monica talk about a scenario. Sometimes y'all
know me, I bring a lot of passion and energy
and emotion, but I'm not emotion No. I typically bring
logic and facts to a conversation. But like, what am
I missing? Sometimes I have to take a step back
and go, what is this? Why are they so hell
being that whatever they've assembled over there, there's no need
(01:20:39):
to tinkle with it.
Speaker 5 (01:20:41):
It's I think I think Wexer brought this up yesterday.
He's not gonna say this that publicly, like they may
just they may make the change on Thursday night, but
I don't think he's gonna say it at the podium
and what change?
Speaker 6 (01:20:54):
And that would be cool? Same thing I said about Casario.
He may make a deal for a wide receiver by
next Tuesday, a three pm local time deadline okay, cool,
but like, you can't to not coach that you benched
him in the middle of a game, So you can't
tell me you trust him. What did the astros tell us, Oh,
Jake Myers, we trust him the moment, the damn first
(01:21:17):
series of the year, the moment they could get Jake
Myles out of there and put in Dubond, Like, come on, bro,
this y'all making this day harder than.
Speaker 4 (01:21:25):
It has to be.
Speaker 5 (01:21:26):
Well, the other thing is Wexler brought up that those
guys that both Greens play on special teams, Kenyon and Kendrick.
He says, Kenyon is gonna give us some good snaps.
Speaker 6 (01:21:38):
He doesn't mean yeah, he doesn't mean left guard, special teams,
trail point and Dimiko will have this calculated audio, he'll
be able to say, uh, go back and listen to
what I said.
Speaker 4 (01:21:48):
I never said that Kenyon was going to be starting,
all right.
Speaker 5 (01:21:51):
This is why this is not a knock on him
to Miko. But this day and age of coaches, like
the same thing with Mike Elka. There the A and
M coach where he comes out after the game and goes, yeah,
I mean this is a real program we're building here.
This isn't some you know, flashy politician, fast talking person
ball And it was a clearly a shot at jimbo Fisher,
no question, she comes back mon dancers.
Speaker 4 (01:22:11):
That was not a shot at Jim.
Speaker 5 (01:22:12):
But it was like, where are the Steve Spurriers, Where
are the damn coaches that speak their mind? Say it
with your chest and this will But like it's the
evolution of coach speak. Now coaches never say anything. They
don't want to offend the player. They don't want to
hurt the guy's feelings. They want to say we believe
in this guy, even when everybody can see he sucks.
Speaker 6 (01:22:31):
You got a couple guys that are of the old
school that still stand on that, and one of those
guys is in Pittsburgh. You need NFL coach, You need
to understand how to attack the podium as an NFL coach.
Go run the tape of Mike Tomlin. Mike t plays
no games. He is very direct, blunt professional. He respects
(01:22:51):
the guys in the locker room that are doing the job,
but he lets it be known this is unacceptable. We
won't be doing that again. All options are on the
tape or no that players going to the bench, and
he doesn't apologize for it to lead me in.
Speaker 4 (01:23:06):
You gotta have that.
Speaker 6 (01:23:07):
Now, they're politics involving every job, including Dais and this one.
All right, let me get to this because we'll wrap
up here. NFL dot Com has player fist. This is
Kevin Patrack. He's a senior writer NFL dot Com Player
fits ahead of the twenty twenty four NFL trade deadline.
(01:23:28):
For example, he has Trey Hendrickson leaving the Bengals going
to the Lions. You know they need somebody for eight Hutchinson,
Zadarius Smith, edge Ford, the Browns goes back to Baltimore,
where he played previously prior to going to Green Bay.
I do believe there's wide receiver Mike Williams going to
Tampa from the Jets, aziz O Jalari leaving the Giants
going to San fran Kalais Campbell leaving them Dolphins going
(01:23:52):
back to the Falcons where he played previously, and a
few other dudes. Cam Robinson already got traded to Minnesota,
so this article came out before that.
Speaker 4 (01:24:00):
Uh huh.
Speaker 6 (01:24:01):
But right here in no order happens to be listed
at third. The Houston Texans trade for Las Vegas Raiders
offensive lineman Andrews Pete. Gordy, You'll remember Andrews Pete. He
was a draft selection by your Saints not too long ago.
Sunk Patrick says, trades for old linemen are rarely executed
(01:24:23):
in season. Basically there are not a lot of quality
linemen to do so CJ. Stroud is being pummeled week
after week. This is an unattainable situation, meaning how much
CJ's being hit, it's just a matter of Houston giving
up pressure. Or it's not just a matter of Houston
giving up pressures. It's that many of the pressures are
immediate right off the snap, blowing by blowing bloder guard
(01:24:47):
and with on blocks. So he says, if you don't
want this to turn into a David Carr situation where
you physically break a quarterback, you better go get you
a guard, he told, he throws out Andrews Pete also
offers Evan.
Speaker 4 (01:25:01):
Neil from the Giants, Nate Davis. Nate Davis.
Speaker 6 (01:25:07):
I've also seen who's that in Charlotte. I can't believe
the Charlotte Caroline Panthers have a guard as well. I
can't believe his name. He's making real money just got paid,
all right. That'll do it for us. Here comes Matt
Thomas and Ross for Connady McGovern, Chris Gordy stan Fleet,
Eric Edholm of NFL dot Com, and you, yes, you,
the good people at Houston who allow us to maintain
our status as your home in Houston sports. God bless you.
(01:25:30):
Enjoy your lunch Halloween Eve. Let's be safe tomorrow will
have predictions on the Jets game tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:25:35):
Y'all be well.
