Now what's next? Next up?It's the Nick Man up. Next s
up, the next step, takethe next step, next up, next
stop, next, next up?This team, this is next up with
ten Norfleeten Chris Gordy. Let's seewhat's next next next? What's happen everybody?
(00:24):
Ten o two here in htown. This is next up. Sports Talk
seven ninety Chris Gordy here with youstand on the way in as well as
our buddy Connor McGovern and we gota lot we got to touch in on
this beautiful Monday morning. We havegot the Houston Astros. When you get
another series, take a two outof three against Milwaukee, and here they
(00:47):
come climbing up those standings, closingthe gap. So we got stuff we
got to get to there. We'vegot some NFL conversation. We will get
to a whole lot of stuff toget into on this Monday morning. Dana
Brown talking yesterday on the pregame show, revealing that oh hey, jose A
(01:07):
Bray, you might be on hisway back sooner rather than later. Be
interesting to see what happens there soplenty to discuss. Oh yeah, wait,
today's Monday. Tomorrow, Texan's gonnahave some media availability. They're gonna
be out there on the practice fieldfor OTA's the Miko and some Texans players
(01:27):
are gonna be talking with the mediatomorrow. So it's a loaded week.
There's a ton of stuff going on, and we're gonna get into all of
it. So of course your phonecalls are welcome. It's seven one three,
two on two five seven ninety sevenone three two one two five seven
ninety as your astros take two outof three in a series against the Milwaukee
Brewers. It's so funny too, because on Friday, you know, we
(01:49):
talked about them sweeping the A's andI said, look, the competition's gonna
get a lot tougher here. Thisis a good Brewers team that you're gonna
have to, you know, bringyour A game to beat. And it
was so funny because look at thepitching matchups. I was like, all
right, how do you take twoout of three? And you looked at
the pitching matchup and you want HunterBrown on Friday didn't feel good about that.
(02:10):
Verlander on Saturday felt really good aboutthat, and then Spencer Arraghedtty on
Sunday didn't feel great about that. It's just so funny that you won the
Hunter Brown and Spencer Arroghetty games butlost the Verlander game. It's just so
funny how that works out sometimes. But you know, look, it's it's
it's mission accompass, it's what youneeded to do. And yesterday, you
(02:34):
know, you jump out of theout of the gates to a four to
one lead in the first you're incontrol, and then things get kind of
hairy. Arraghetty. They try tosqueeze an extra inning out of him into
the seventh. He leads, leavesafter six and a third loads of bases.
Brian A bray you allows all threeruns to score, and it kind
(02:55):
of sucks because Spence Aragedtty deserved abetter fate yesterday. I know he ended
up getting the win and that wasgood. That's not two straight victories for
Spencer two and four record wise, but I bray you like and I get
it. Like in his in hisstat line, it'll go as oh,
he you know, zero runs allowedbecause those were all inherited to terror Getty.
(03:16):
But it got Harry there. Itwas like, all right, suddenly
a game you're you're crushing them, six to one becomes six to four and
suddenly it's like, oh, what'sgoing on here? And then luckily Kyle
Tucker comes up with the big shotto make it nine to four, and
you never looked back. So big, big win. And I mentioned this
(03:37):
on the post game show yesterday, this was what you need. Like it's
one thing to beat up on Detroitand the Oakland A's in Colorado and Mexico
City. I mean, look, those are all wins, you'll take them.
But this was your first opponent outsideof the Rangers, right outside of
(03:57):
that series against the Rangers she tooka couple of weeks ago. Know,
like, this was your first goodopponent that you've beaten this season that you
that you've won a series again. So that was huge. And now you
get the Lowly Angels coming in startingtonight, and then this weekend you head
out to Oakland see the Lowly A'sagain and a real opportunity here for the
(04:19):
Astros as they win. Yesterday, the Rangers and Mariners both lose, and
the Asters are just four games backof the division lead. Now you're still
twenty one to twenty six, you'restill five games bullow of five hundred,
but four games back of the Mariners. Now, crazy that you're going to
(04:46):
see them here in a little overweek. A week from today, you're
gonna head out to Seattle, andthat kind of sucks. By the way,
the Memorial Day, it feels likeevery Memorial Day the Astors have always
played an afternoon or daytime game.I remember watching that big comeback in Minnesota,
remember years ago when they had thebig late, late rally to come
(05:10):
back to beat the Twins while wewere girling hot dogs and stuff. Maybe
that was July fourth, I feellike it was a Mortal Day. But
anyway, they feels like they've alwaysplayed a Memorial Day daytime. We have
a freaking late night West Coast gameon Memorial Day night a week from today,
eight forty first pitch a week fromtonight in Seattle. But anyway,
the point being, you got anopportunity here to run off some wins.
(05:33):
And as a caller in the postgamepointed out yesterday, the Seattle Mariners are
about to start a series with theYankees at Yankee Stadium. The Texas Rangers
are about to play a series againstthe Phillies in Philadelphia. There's an opportunity
here for the Astros and maybe evenI don't want to put too much pressure
(05:55):
on them and say sweep the Angels, but take two out of three against
the Angels. There's an opportunity hereto really close that gap even more with
you playing the Angels and a's thisweek that you could go into Seattle a
week from today and you could betied with them in the division, like
you could have an opportunity here orgoing to Seattle and jump, you know,
(06:19):
jump them, Like we could betalking about a week and it's a
four game set in Seattle, soyou know, if you split, if
you go two and two, youdon't gain any ground on them. If
you take three out of four, you know you can surpass them. But
how crazy is that for where thisteam was just two three weeks ago.
We were sitting here in the studiotalking about, I don't know if Joe
(06:41):
Spot is the right man. Idon't know if you know, should we
fire the hitting coach, if wefire a Spoto, who's going to be
the guy to bring in. JimCranen's got to make a decision. I
think even Stane was saying, youknow, call Dusty, Like all these
things we were talking about, wherethis thing was the lowest of the lows
and couldn't get any worse. Andhere we are in May twentieth, And
(07:01):
it's why I've preached for so manyweeks like it is a long season.
And yes, as bad as thingswere, and they were bad, don't
get me wrong, Like and theystill haven't completely climbed all the way out
of this, but look at wherethey are now, Look at how they're
playing, and look at how theopportunity that sits in front of them in
this next week plus an opportunity toclimb out of the grave and start to
(07:29):
kind of put some dirt on youropponents and really fletch your muscle and say,
this is the Astros that we weresupposed to be. Now, look,
they're not going to get to They'renot going to get to the Yankees
or Orioles level. They're not goingto catch those guys. But this is
one of those years where you're lookinggo the Rangers of the reigning World Series
champs, still loaded with talent.Seattle Mariners still have a ton of talent.
(07:55):
You know, they were expected toat least compete for this division or
compete for aff spot. The Angelswho figured they take a little bit of
a slide. They still have MikeTrout, but he's hurt and they lost
show He show Hey Tani and theOakland A's and the Oaklands but they're actually,
you know, a's have been muchbetter than I think we thought they
would be. But we say allthat to say like, thank god,
(08:18):
nobody's run away with this division. And now here you are. If you're
the Mariners of the Rangers, though, you gotta be you gotta be so
pissed. You'll be like we hada change. The Astros are ten games
below five hundred, Like, howdid we not? This was our chance
to run away with the division andbury them and you didn't do it.
(08:39):
And now the Astros sit just twoand a half games behind the Rangers and
just four games back of the Mariners, and again a schedule this week that
is very favorable. Now they askersstill have to go take care of business.
But you go out there and playthe Angels starting tonight with from Berveldez
on the Mound, Christian Havier onTuesday, Hunter Brown the matinee on Wednesday.
(09:01):
We'll hope he can. If youwin the first two, maybe you
know an opportunity to go for asweep with hundred Brown on Wednesday, possibly,
then you got to Oakland with Verlanderon Friday, Arrighetti on Saturday,
and then Sunday. They haven't saidyet, but run al Blanco would be
able to come off the suspension orhis ten games suspension next Sunday. So
(09:24):
would they opt to go him thereor would they go you know, would
from Ervaldez circle back and get thestart. But you know, good news
is too. You got an offday this Thursday, and so there's some
light at the end of the tunnelon this stretch of you know, so
many consecutive days with consecutive games, and and they're coming out of this thing.
So it's just it's so fun tosee. And you got to be
(09:46):
so excited as an Astros fan foras dismal as things looked about three weeks
ago, for this team to beplaying some great baseball. As of late,
the offense has come around. Thebats are swinging. Jeremy paying you
with clutch home runs, Kyle Tuckerwith clutch home runs, Alex Bregman's starting
to hit a little bit. EvenYourdan's had some hits, even though we
know he's not fully you know, one hundred percent all the way there.
(10:09):
Jake Myers is on a heater, the bullpen's doing a much better job.
Josh Hater's been money in the bankas of late. It's just a lot
of good things happening for your astros. And again, that's my biggest takeaway
come out of this weekend is yes, we said you had to go take
your business and win series against theTigers in the A's and all these crappy
(10:30):
teams you were playing, but thatBrewers team, that's a division an L
Central Division leading Brewers team, that'sprobably gonna be a playoff team, and
you took two out of three againsthim. And honestly, I know Contreras
got the best of Verlander on thathome I mean it was a thirteen pitch
of bat. Verlander's trying to doeverything he can to get that dude out
and he ends up he leaves oneover the play on the thirteenth pitch and
(10:52):
he crushes it for a three runhomer, and suddenly you're down four to
one. If Verlander just gets afly ball out there and tied one to
one, you know you were gonnahave an opportunity those later innings to scratch
across a run and possibly win thatSaturday game, and you know we could
we could be talking about uh aneight game win streak here. Again,
don't want to get greedy, butthat's how good this team is playing right
(11:15):
now. You know they they haveplayed much better baseball since they came out
of those first two games of thatseries against the Yankees up in New York.
And they're winners of nine of theirlast eleven. So an opportunity here
to go get some wins against theAngels in the A's and close this gap
even more. And man, Ijust I can't wait to see on social
media the Astros fans when they whenthey jump jump ahead of you know,
(11:41):
jump into the driver's seat in AOWest Division lead and send a message everybody,
Oh hey, we're back. Hello, remember us. We're the Houston
Astros seven one three two two fiveseven ninety and number seven one three two
on two five seven ninety. MoreAstros conversation. We'll get to your calls
coming up next right here on NextUp Sports Talk seven ninety. Next Up
(12:05):
continues white on your computer. Listento Sports Talk seven ninety on any device
with our free iHeartRadio Round White's delivery. Now what's poked the other way?
And it well, get up,get out of here. Just like that,
(12:28):
the Astros get three, Tucker's secondhome run of the ball game,
his fifteenth of the season, andthe Astros lead nine to four. What
do you expect, old seem Yeah, start in front of the bottom.
Now he is King Tuck doing KingTuck type things. Here we all line
from the Sports Talk seven ninety studiosstand sportsman and me Chris Gordy him That
(12:52):
call brought to you by the AstrosRadio Network. Robin Ford of Steve Spots.
Appreciate you guys on a Monday, holding fleet down, not feeling great,
but we're going to push through ittoday before we get going. And
I appreciate you doing a weekend recapobviously, and I just looked at it
again, Astros. That's three seriesin a row and this is what needed
to happen for them to climb backinto it with the AIDS coming to town
(13:16):
starting tonight, excuse me, theAngels, and then you go to Oakland
the end of this week into theweekend. You brought it up, Gordy,
where this team could be going intothat Seattle Mayrin this series. If
they continue to get these series winwinning two of three and such, and
I'll say this too, I don'twant to put too much pressure on them
because I understand. I mean, you could, you could end up dropping
a series here or there. Becauseremember the goal we set about two weeks
(13:41):
ago was the goal should be totry to get back to close to five
hundred by the All Star break andbe within a couple of games of striking
distance. But hell, I meanthe way they're playing, they're they're ahead
of that right now. But butit was funny. I just I had
some people are like, oh,we could do this, we could do
that. Like again, you gottapace yourself. Like they could. They
could win two out of three, get ce Angels went two o three against
the A's and then going to Seattleand lose all three. So it could
(14:05):
happen. But I'm just saying, like they're just their brand of baseball they're
playing right now. It's just amuch better. It looks completely different than
what it was in the month ofMarch slash April, where they were ten
and fifteen. That's four hundred baseballin April. It looks the confidence looks
back. They have returned to form, and I was looking at the marketing
campaign, this relentless thing the guys, not necessarily the campaign, but the
(14:31):
thought process to climbing back in thisrace. Danny Brown has been adamant about
it, as was Joe a spotter. All of the players we've heard from
Bregman and others have said, look, we're going to reel awesome wins and
get some of these series under ourbelt. At some point things look to
have turned led by guys like KyleTucker. And I don't know why this
(14:54):
popped into my head on the wayin when I was trying not to pull
over, and yeah, out thewindow, you get the Gordy. Kyle
Tucker has made more money than hewould have this time last year. Has
Kyle Tucker made himself more millions?Or is a number to saying for you?
Yeah? I mean I think hewas always gonna be looking for that
(15:15):
big deal And do you think he'sstill gonna get it? Yeah, it'll
be. This offseason will be veryinteresting because you know, he'll be going
into his final year and the Astros, you know, we'll see where they
are at the end of this year. Let's hope they make another run for
a World Series. Let's hope theythey rally and get to another ALCS and
maybe, yeah, maybe get backto another World Series. And if they
do that, Kyle Tucker is gonnabe a big part of it, hopefully
(15:37):
because he was dreadful last postseason. But yeah, I don't think it changes
much. I mean, look,he's having a great year. Okay,
great he was. He's always beena great player. But I don't think
even an average season this year wouldchange him and his agent still looking for
that seven, eight, nine yeardeal, you know what I mean,
So he becomes a third time AllStar. To me, the price is
going up for Kyle Tucker. Sothe question is being asked by some in
(16:00):
Astro's nation. Should h Dana Brownand Crane have done the deal with Kyle
Tucker coming into the season because theprice continues to go Well now, I
mean I think again, I thinkI think they tried. I think they
talked, and you know, again, Kyle Tucker's looking at and saying,
you know, we want the biggestdeal. It's just it's tough, man,
because hindsight's always twenty twenty. Everybodysitting here bitching about the Jose Abrey
(16:22):
deal. The great part about itis it was only a three year deal
and you can get out of it. Alex Bregman was is you know,
he's coming around right now, buthe was having a dreadful season. Yet
a year or two ago we werehere. Everybody pay the man, pay
the man, give him the nineyear deal. And so again, like
I do think that there's something tothe flexibility, but it will be really
interesting because if you passed on ahuge monster deal for George Sprger, you
(16:48):
passed out a huge monster deal forCarls Kraa, It passed on a huge
monster deal for you know, AlexBregman is cut well, but he he
always wanted to be a Yankee. That was what I'm saying. You could
have matched the money to do it. But like the one thing is like,
Okay, Tucker's kind of the lastof the group because you locked up
all two It, you locked uprd On, you locked up these other
guys. But like, if youwere ever going to give out one of
(17:11):
those big Wong deals, it's Tuckerthe guy to do it. That's what
the age is right, the productionis right. I don't have an issue
giving Kyle Ton's healthy yeah, heplays. I think he played more than
everybody on the team last season.I saw this from Baseball Reference as a
Sunday, Kyle Tucker's third multi homerun game of the season, most in
Major League Baseball, ahead of nameslike Azuna, more than Jordan obviously,
(17:36):
who is this? Eduardo Julian?Don't know who that is? All right,
another name I want to throw outat you. I may have been
wrong here. I know many ofyou have an issue with my personality at
times, staying as bombastic air againt. I am a loud mouth, but
I have no issue in admitting whenthere's been an era. Sometimes I misspeak,
(17:59):
sometime I'm just proven wrong. JakeMyers in centerfield. This platoon thing
drove me crazy last year. Ididn't like it this year. I thought
Chas had done enough to earn ajob. Obviously, Chaz is battling through
the hamstring. Sounds like he'll beup here in a little bit. Jake
Mayas is absolutely raking Gordon has JakeMayas earned the cinefield position. It's and
(18:23):
it's funny you say that. SeanSean asked the question too earlier about you
know, John Singleton. The realityis they are never like there's always going
to be platoons. It was alwaysgoing to be a platoon. Chas McCormick
is on his way back, JakeMyers is still going to play a lot.
It's just the way that they operate. There's outside of L two v
(18:45):
eight, second bregmant a third, paget short all the other position. Yeah,
all the other positions are gonna kindof platoon. Like, Jordan's not
gonna play left every day. Whatwould you call him the every day left
fielder. I mean, he's gonnaplay a good bit. There is Jake
the the permanent center fielder. Well, no, he's gonna play a lot
(19:06):
in center field. But there's gonnabe times where low Perfido plays there.
There's gonna be times that Chazz playshere. But I do think this brings
up an interesting conversation because remember myinterview with John Singleton a few weeks ago
when I talked to him and hewas starting to get hot, and he
said, I says there's something toplaying every day. He said absolutely.
He said it's way tougher to getgoing when you're playing every two to three
days, or you're coming off thebench late in a pinchhit opportunity. He
(19:29):
goes playing every day, you're seeingmore pitches and you get you find your
groove. I asked Jake Myers thesame thing yesterday on our pregame show.
I said, is this kind ofyou you know, it's kind of coincides
with Chas going in the IL andyou playing almost every day in center field.
He said, absolutely, it helps. So this is where the tough
decision is, like, do youkeep riding a guy who's on a heater?
Yes, Singleton's been doing great atfirst, Yes, Jake has been
(19:51):
doing great in center versus Also, hey, the matchups do say and we
got Chas back. Now the matchupssay Chas would be a good matchup today.
Center Jake Myers ranks fourth among MajorLeague Baseball center fielders in f WAR,
despite having just one hundred and twoplayed appearances. This I believe was
as of a conclusion of the gameSunday, He trails only Aaron Judge and
(20:12):
Kevin Pollard in w RC. Plussome other metrics here, like when you
really start looking at what Jake isdoing statistically, there is a case to
be made that Jake Myers should remainevery day center fielder. I'm okay with
that. That's why I'm saying.I will admit that I'm wrong, Chass.
It's being injured, that's fine.Loop Pafito is an outfielder. They're
(20:36):
not gonna comfortable putting them over therefirst. Okay, fine, But the
way Jake is playing, Okay,You've earned the right to continue to go
out there. That doesn't bother me. One bit seven one three two one
two five seven ninety. You wantto weigh in on Jake Myers and King
Tuck? Is he earning himself somemoney before we break? Let's go Conrode
James. Good morning to you, sir. Hope everything is well with you,
(20:56):
the fam, the hood and allof that. Oh, every thinks
well with me. I was outof town for the storm, and that's
part of my call. I wentto New York, and of course the
Yankee Stadium, Conrad James was anenemy territory. But uh, I want
to say that the Yankees just lookfreaking awesome bulletproof. So I am all
(21:21):
too happy for the Mariners to goin there at the Yankee Stadium and struggle
with them, because that's gonna helpus out a lot. Now, the
other thing is I think Jake Myers. You know, I always like Myers
and I've always liked McCormick, anduh, he has been a blessing,
a freaking blessing since since he cameinto the lineup. I think we have
(21:44):
a center fielder. I know I'dlike to bond too, so you know,
I'm kind of torn a little bitthere, but uh, but I
but I just want to say,I think Myers is the center fielder.
And I enjoyed my time at YankeeStadium. All right, I'll hang up
my man, Caro James, youdon't get too comfortable up there in the
Bronx. Let me try and sayit this way. There's going to be
(22:07):
a time in this season where ChasMcCormick gets hot and we're gonna ride him
as a hitter too. So like, yes, while jac is hot right
now, you ride this. Butwe can't all just assume he's gonna do
this all year. He's not goingto He's gonna fall into an over twenty
slump and stuff like that. SoI just say, like, yeah,
enjoy it WHI while he's doing it, Ride it while he's got it.
But also, let's just not assumeHe's just gonna be the center filler every
(22:30):
day for the rest of the yearinto the postseason. All right, there's
a You brought up a gentleman, this John Singleton, and you referenced Dana
Brown in your earlier answer to oneof my questions. This first day,
this first base scenario has popped backup. Dana Brown gives us an update
on Jose of Bray. You speakingabout platooning. What the hell is Dana
(22:52):
Brown and Joe Spoder up to Nowwe'll continue talking strolls your home and Astros
baseball right here the legendary KB andme with yourn on next pictures tremble with
fear r comfree run over with northFleet and Gordyon. Next up, Bellies,
tremble with hunger. Lunchtime is soclose till then show down on more.
(23:18):
Next up, the one one,and that's hit up the middle and
over the leaping add office and inthe center front basin. Alvarez scores.
John Singleton comes through, picks uphis second RBI of the game, and
it's five to one Astros. Sometimesthat's not how hard you hit him,
but it's where you hit him.And John stayed in the zone just long
(23:41):
enough to get that one over theinfielders leap and into centerfield. The Astros
add on appreciate Robert Ford, theStaves, Sparks, Astros Radio Network.
John Singleton, similar to what wesaid about Jake Mis, John Singleton has
earned a right to be the everyday first baseman. Brothers entitled to a
(24:03):
day off as well. John Singletonhas stabilized the first base position. It's
no longer a black hole. Butthen we get an update, Gordy.
We heard from Dana Brown over theweekend in reference to the guy that's making
nineteen and a half million dollars thisyear and next, the former MVP of
the league, at least in theAmerican League. That would be Jose air
(24:27):
Bray. You, Dana Brown hadthis to say, many people in Astro's
nation are conflicted. What do youdo with this conundrum? Named Jose air
Brad you, Dana give me thenupdate, please, sir. Yeah.
The good thing is we just talkedto Jeff Bagwell last night. It was
me Joe right before the game.In fact, me Joe A Spotta and
(24:48):
Jeff Bagwell. We had a conversationbecause Jeff was down there working with him
for a couple of days. Iknow he's been down there working with Renee
and so ultimately he's doing you know, doing well, making much wents Uh.
There's a chance we could see himback for the Oakland series. We're
gonna give him a few more games, either down there or maybe potentially in
Triple A. Get them two gamesand you know, travel the off day
(25:14):
up to Oakland and maybe we'll seehim back on Friday. But you know,
he's making some adjustments and that's agood thing. Bagwell gave a really
good report on him. He's startingto get his hands loaded, his timing
is back, and we'd like tosee him play a little bit more and
really fine tune it. Jump managerDana Brown Gordon, Jose air Bray's fixed.
(25:37):
He's down there in whatever league thatis down there in the Florida complexly
the FCL. This isn't even theycall this rookie league like this is you
got a bunch of seventeen eighteen yearolds playing in this league, like this
is like a step above high schoolballs. So eureka, Jose air Bray,
you is batting against eighteen year oldsand all of a sudden he's fixed
and he's ready to come back intothe line because he's not even I'm looking
(26:00):
at the score again. Maybe theydon't keep the full box scores for all
the games, but I'm looking atsaying he's playing. Two games they played,
they had one Friday and one Saturday. He batted the lead off in
both. He went one for fourwith a run scored on the Friday game
with a walk, and then onefor five with a double, an RBI
and a run scored on Saturday, one for four and one for five against
(26:25):
a bunch of eighteen year olds. No, man, I need to give
me two weeks of him there. Then I want a weekend corpus. Then
I want at least a week insugarhad and I know, oh for four,
zero for fives. I need hitsevery night, Gordon. They said
he could be in the lineup asearly as this Friday. I just rushing
again. Of all people, weare gonna listen to, Jeff Bagwell,
(26:48):
who was part of the group thatsigned him, is gonna go, oh,
he gave a really good report.Of course, he gave a really
good report. You know, I'dbe shocked here if Jeff Bagwell calls,
he goes, look, man,he's got he's got a long way to
go to get this swing fixed. And that's where I'd be shocked to hear.
There are many that believe Bagwell wasone of the louder voices in Jim
Crane's ear to go give Jose abra that contract and bring him to Houston.
(27:11):
So this is he's got his nameon Jose. He needs this to
work out for nineteen million. Ijust don't want to rewrite history. Like,
yeah, they didn't have a gymat the time. He was part
of that group at the time, though we all thought it was a great
move. Everybody thought it was agreat move. So I'm not trying to
we're not trying to pooh pooh onBagwell. But again, like I could
easily see Jim Jim Cradle behind thescenes going well, this was your guy,
you fought for, you better goget him fixed. But like,
(27:33):
it's gonna take time. It's nottwo games in the Florida Complex League,
and he's ready to go face theOpen as a lot of Complex League.
And then Dan even says in thatquote like yeah, he's gonna need more
bats, more time, but thensays, yeah, we got off thy
Thursday, a great opportunity for himto get on a plane and join us
in Oakland on Friday. I'm like, wait a minute, it's Sunday.
He's saying that, unbelievable five days. He's gonna be back at the big
(27:53):
league level. You mentioned Dana Brownon jose Ah Bray, You's time,
man, let's hear from the generalmanager about this said adjustment to his swing.
Yeah, you have to see velocitybecause you know, when you get
back here at the big league level, you're going to see every pitch that
comes across home played. For themost part, if it's a fastball,
it's ninety to one hundred and two. So you know that's some velocity for
(28:15):
you. So ultimately, you're gonnahave to have your time in to hit
the fastball, and if you can'tat the fastball, you're gonna have problems
up here. That's always been athing. So you know, hopefully his
time in his back, we'll geta chance to see him in a few
more games, and then we'll graduallyease them in. I think Joe has
a plan to gradually ease him in. You know, we've been very fortunate
(28:36):
that Singleton has been a pretty goodreplacement for him. And at some point
I could see there's like start offas a platoon type thing, and you
know, just to see how itgoes. General manager Dana Brown, why
would you mess with this? JohnSingleton's OBP right now is what three thirty
three yesterday in a win, JohnSingleton four at bats, drove in two
(29:00):
runs. He walked on walk.Yeah, no, and look, we're
not confusing anything. And I've seena couple of people say this like it's
not like Singleton's crush it like he'sthe thing was a Brady was so bad
we lowered our standards. So wesaid, if you give us anything out
of first base, we'll take it. And yeah, look at the month
Sigaton's only bat in two twenty eight. You know it's not through the roof
(29:23):
the team is. They're winning andhe's playing good defense. And even though
he's had hitless games, he's whichlike the naked eye can't just look at
a box score if you watched him, he's had competitive at bats. He's
had bats where like he crushed onebut the shortstop made a leaping grab.
It goes as oh for one inthe stop book, but you go that
was good contact, and that's whatwe've seen from Singleton ere is he's had
(29:45):
some really competitive at bats, andso yeah, I think I'm with you.
I'm with every fan where we go. Let's not mess this up,
like, let's keep riding this. But you know, because the problem is,
like if Syingotoon was going oh,four for five every day, yeah,
I'd go, you know what, let's fast try. I could braik
you, let's see if he's fixedthe swing. But right now you don't
have to do that. I thinkI think they're forcing it. And I
(30:06):
heard Dana say, let's get him, you know, some more games.
But damn, you're talking about joseA brad you back at first potentially by
Friday. And one of my Iwould say concerns is, Okay, suppose
you put jose A Brady and he'sstill not good. What has that now
done with the timing and confidence ofJohn Singleton? Like at some point,
(30:27):
yes, you can for a tuneplayers, but let guys get in the
groove and stay there. They've routedoff what is it going to nine or
the last eleven or something like that, seven or nine, whatever it is,
it's working, don't tinker with thisthing. You're over complicating this,
So we'll see what happens. Now, let me just say on the flip
side, if a bred You doesget back and he looks like the a
(30:48):
bray You that we saw down thestretch of Sea last season that starts crushing
bombs, then hell yeah, Imean this, this makes the Astros even
better again. It's it's a stretchto say that, but we saw it
late last year. Is the postseasonus last October he was crushing. So
if he finds that guy, man, it's gonna make the slight of people
more dangerous. I'm skeptical on it, but if he does, man even
(31:08):
more reason to celebrate. Having talkedabout some pitching updates as well, Spencer
Arraghatty gets to win yesterday over atthe rail Yard. He is two and
four on the Season's brother went sixand a third did Aarraghatty did have four
earned run. The one he hadone probably gonna bray You came in and
gave us. And that's one ofthe pitches. We will get to the
(31:29):
other A bray You on the otherside. Sports Talk seven ninety when Fleet
streets Houston listens, Yes, Ihave a great shot already a future brand.
I'm liking your stuff. Stanton orFleet ten Chris Gordy are next up
on Sports Talk seven ninety. Appreciateeverybody hanging out with us here as we
wrap up our one here on nextup, we'll be with you till noon.
(31:52):
Matt Thomas, Ross Viriel and MattThomas show coming your way from noon
to three as stand sportsman at ChrisGordi. Of course we are at Sports
Talk seven ninety and we're talking someastros here because that's what we do here
Sports Talk seven ninety Astros winners nineof the last eleven. The Angels of
Anaheim are in town for a threegame set starting tonight over at Minute May
(32:14):
Park, and the Astros are doingwhat they need to do. What does
that go there? That's eight ofthe last ten I believe they won.
We were talking about the homestand andwhat needed to happen, and so they
will look to take care of businessbefore they get an off down Thursday and
then head to the Bay Area.Yeah, it's nine of eleven, nine
of eleven. But what oh,I was trying to say the ten game
(32:35):
homestand I thought some people are sayingthey could take eight of ten and we'll
see what happens there. All right, who's this? Bobby and Austin just
hit me up on Social He says, stay in the jose of Bray.
You rushing him back is one hundredpercent a money thing. Yeah. I
think that's silly though, because he'smaking the money no matter what. So
(32:57):
okay, yeah, go finish yourthought. I'm sorry, I'll ask you
something after that. Yeah, SoI mean, okay, then then by
that that's standpoint. He's getting themoney no matter what, Like, okay,
then what's another month in the FloridaComplex League? Like if it's just
if it's a stupid thought of well, he's more paying them, so he's
got a contricke. Well let himgive him more time to fix what he
needs to fix them. Unless they'rethinking like they tried to they try to
(33:21):
release him, and he was like, no, I don't want to get
released. So like maybe this isa move to say, all right,
we'll come back and prove if youfix it. If they hasn't fixed it,
they can just cut bait and go, oh okay, we're gonna cut
you cause let's move on. Orare they potentially rushing him back, because
you know, it is kind ofmoralizing to be down there and some whatever
that leads to it. Though, you know what I'm saying. Once you
like, it's one thing to say, all right, I'll go down there
(33:43):
and try it. And then everyday he's going out there against dudes that
are sixteen, and he's like, what am I doing here? So maybe
it's crush go five for five everygame, and let show me you're ready
for four and one for five getme out of here. There's some dude
named daily On and you know it'ssome kid batting second behind him. He
went three for five on Saturday.I'm like, well, bring you went
(34:06):
one for five. So like someseventeen year old with a bad mustache is
down there hitting balls better than help. He's going, hey, you're a
you're an MVP. Huh, yeah, that's cool. I'm like nineteen from
the Dominican and look what I'm doing. I also want to say this,
if Jose Braidy was not making nineteenand a half million, he would have
been released by now. I dothink the money is part of the reason
we're even having this conversation. IfJose Braidy was making five million, bucks
(34:29):
he being gone by bye. Butwhat I'm saying is like he's it's either
it's fully guaranteed. You understand this. So sometimes just cut your losses and
say let's move on. Not whenhe's nineteen and a half, I mean
almost forty million dollars at stake. No, No, we're going to try
and do everything we gain. Andwe saw the guy, the guy late
last you know, last year inthe postseason. There's still that guy's still
(34:50):
in there somewhere. Well, theycan get him. If you could find
that guy, it makes the Astroseven better. That guy is a year
older, and that guy has notbeen He wasn't playing this bad last year.
I mean, this is all time. It was pretty bad Gordon.
He was like zero point seven sixbatan average point zero seven six or something.
But remember we always talked about this. Carria has always had power.
And it took what like over amonth for him get his first home run
(35:13):
last year, so it was itwas almost like a charity case. Everybody
fell bad for him. Yeah,it definitely was. All Right, let's
knock out a couple other nuggets.I'm looking at a tweet from Brian McTaggart.
So, first, of all,we got a scare. This Ryan
Presley thing, I think kind ofwent underreported. Ryan Presley's got a finger,
(35:35):
and they're saying he was gonna doa bullpen session yesterday. He's been
unavailable the last few days that wasgoing into yesterday. They won't put him
on the IL, at least fornow. Are you concerned about Presley's finger?
What does this mean now? HavingHater and Hell what Brian o Bray
was doing. I can't count onBrian and Braid. What the hell is
(35:58):
he? He's been awful, Gordon, I can't trust Brown and Bray.
You Now, we thought the backend of this relief, we thought we'd
get to seven, eight nine andit be lights out. Josh Haden has
returned to form jose bra You hadbeen I but here lately he's just giving
up action. Now I was gonnasay something else. Well, here's the
funny thing about stats. It's like, it's so funny the the combo of
(36:22):
those three have been really good thelast month of Hater Presley and Hater Presley
in a Bray you and this wasthe pregame stat yesterday. So after slow
starts of the season, Astros leverageof levers have returned to form. Josh
Hater owns a one forty six eRA in his last ten appearances, Brian
Presley has a two thirty five ERAin his last eight appearances, and Brian
(36:43):
Bradley owns a one to ten ERAin his last fifteen appearances. The three
have combined in the month of Mayfor a one to ninety six RA.
Here's what's Smiths leading about that stat. Brian Bradley comes in in relief yesterday
with three inherited runners, allows allthree to score. They all I'll get
a tribute to Spencer Aga. Andwhat was Brian a bred'statline yesterday? Two
(37:04):
thirds of an innings pitch, twohits, no runs, So his RA
lowers even more to three eighteen onthe season. It makes him look even
better. That's why I say statsaren't all they're cracked up to be.
Have they all three been better?Yes? But the one that's still I
don't know who makes me pee mypants even you know a little bit either
more Briana Brady or Ryan Presley. They both continue to play with fire.
The good thing is Hater. Thelast few times he's back to the Hater
(37:29):
of what you needed. Brian Bradygets his tenth hold of the season yesterday.
But to answer your original question,I think the Pressley thing, I
don't know what it is. Isit a blister, is it whatever it
is? They say it's his ringfinger, but again not serious enough to
go on the il. He justis not available in day to day So
I'm my freak out factors not realHoTT. Some people have also brought up
(37:49):
and I take issue with it aswell. Going back to the game yesterday,
after knowing at the real yard, there was no need to send air
Giddy back out there in the seventhinning. They should have just shut him
down this He goes out there andlows the bases into seven and then Brian
and Bray you comes in there andthe runs are attributed to As you mentioned
Spance Ara Getty. I did notagree with Joe spot of putting Aaron Gatty
(38:10):
back out there. Did you haveissue with that? I thought it was
a great opportunity to say, great, great effort for you, young man,
Let's call it a game. Iget he was only at eighty eighty
one pitches, but six innings ofone run ball and keep in mind this
is a rookie that's gonna be throwingthe most innings he's ever thrown this season
(38:30):
if he stays up at the bigleague club and all that. Like,
I just thought it was a greatopportunity to pat him on the back,
saying, job well done. We'reup six to one, let's go to
the bullpen. Instead of what happensis he loads the bases and you know,
did get one out, he gota six strikeout, but loads the
bases and then you pull him andgo to the bullpen because's at ninety nine
pitches at that point. I justthought the smarter decision would be let's pull
(38:52):
him, let's go to the bullpen. Bullpen gets to work a clean inning
with a five run lead and gofrom there. But yeah, I just
bigger story. Raghetty's been like theselast two starts. He picks up wins
in both. He's turning into abig league picture. Now he's coming in
a get his desk is for himto be your number five. But for
a number five, he's starting toshow some signs. Also some updates pitching.
(39:15):
As we get ready to wrap upthis hour, we'll talk Texans in
eleven o'clock hour, jose Raketty througha rehab start. Oh, he's got
one more rehab start scheduled this week, says Brian mctagger. So we could
see Urkety maybe on that road tripout in Oakland on this weekend. That's
me saying that that's not what's beingreported. And Chas McCormick d h yesterday
(39:38):
and then he's going to rejoin theAstros, So they look to get some
bodies back here pretty soon. Astro'sback in action over at Minute May Park.
That would take place tonight. TheAngels of Anaheim are in town.
We'll get Astros on deck at theconclusion of the eighteen and then we'll get
first pitch shortly after seven o'clock. All right, so you got three games
(40:00):
left to get over there to seethe home of the Astros. As we
are from a radio standpoint, getover the Mini May Park and check that
out. And I know a lotof you still dealing with the issues with
the storm. I think Gordon theysaid some. I think they said some
six hundred thousand may have been downto half a millionaires of yesterday. We're
still without power. We are certainlysympathetic and empathize with those of you that
(40:22):
are challenged in whatever capacity that is, and what that has done to you
on the home front. For others, you know, many people are thinking
about is this the time now doI just need to do a complete remodel.
I know some folks that can helpyou with that over at JB.
Thibodeau. My guys and the goodpeople over at JB. Thibodaux Homes and
Properties can assist you, whether itbe residentially or commercially. They're third generation
(40:46):
builders. They understand the layer ofthe land here in the city. Maybe
you want to move out of oneof the flood zones, so you want
to be in the area that hasthe wires underground like we do here in
the Gallery area. JB. ThibodauxHomes and Property can assist you with all
of your real estate and construction needs. They are custom builders, again,
doing it for three generations. Theycan help bring your vision to reality,
(41:08):
and they do it with the rightmindset, the right spirit, and they
sincerely care about wherever you are inthat construction process. All right, So
keep my people in mind. JB. Thibodeau dot com. That's JB.
Thibodeau dot com. Now what's next? Next up. It's the next man
up, next stop, the nextstep, take the next step, next
(41:30):
up, next stop, next nextstop. This team wants to be next.
This is next up with Tad NorthfleetenChris Gordy. Let's see what's next
next next. Our two is uponus as we come out of halftime here
in the Sports Talk seven ninety studiosneltled in between Uptown Park and River Oaks.
(41:53):
Right here in the galleria stand Northfleetme at stand sportsman on social to
my left, he's Chris Gordy. You can find him there at Chris Gordy.
That's Connor d mcgup. You getup Connor as well. Appreciate him
holding us down in our production andprogramming needs. And thank you Houston for
allowing us to maintain our status asyour home for Houston sports. Here Sports
(42:14):
Talk seven ninety. If you missedthe first hour of the show, you
can go to Sports seven ninety dotcom as well as the free iHeartRadio app.
Talked a lot of Houston astros inthe ten o'clock hour, and deservingly
so Astros winners. What is thatGordy nine of the last eleven taking care
of business again for their third serieswin, back to back series win over
(42:35):
there at Minute May Park. Inface of the storm and all of the
recovery and the light Astros continue tostay focused and climb their way back into
it. I don't think I saidthat, Gord in the previous Our Astros
are now third in the AL West, and they are if I update my
standings here, how many games backbehind the Rangers? Four back of the
(42:58):
four back here we go? Yep, four game four go back from the
Manners, who they will see herein about a week out in Seattle,
are an even more reason to gowin some out there. You blew that
game against him here, you droptwo out of three against them, you
want to get that, you know, head to head back even no question?
All right, so let's talk somefootball, shall we. As a
(43:19):
few of the Texans were in thenews, we all got an email I
believe that to be on Friday informingus that Demiko runs and some of the
guys are going to speak tomorrow aswell as Thursday. We would hear from
coaches and players as the guys arearound for some OTA's. But it's four
days this week and four days nextweek going into the holiday weekend. So
(43:43):
I figured we would. We'll probablyget some eyes and get certainly get some
ears and hear what's going on overthere. I want to come back to
Demko because a former player took someshots at Miko over the weekend, and
I'm just not accustomed to seeing peoplegoing to Miko runs. He is obviously
arded around here, beloved by everybodythat I have seen in or heard,
(44:04):
so we'll come back to that.In the effort to assist with the storm,
though, I saw one Colebridge BernardStroud was out assisting with some clean
up efforts in some neighborhood. Youmay have the neighborhood. I don't,
but I saw the footage of himplaying catch with some kids and CJ out
being a good steward of the community. Didn't surprise me. But it's good
to see CJ around and ingratiating himselfwith the city of Houston. Gordon,
(44:29):
if you have something on CJ.Yeah, No, I was just gonna
say, our girl Ashley over toninety three seven to beat our sister's station
here at iHeart she's three point seven. She was out there with CJ.
Stroud and they were doing everything totry to help with the clean up and
still a lot of clean up goingon around town from the storm. Yeah.
I bounced around a little bit thisweekend and where was the north side
(44:49):
still as bad? I was ata baby shower up past the airport,
and it's still trees I mean everywhere. I mean you could see there are
some areas of town that were reallyreally hit hard. I know all the
you have seen the video on socialand the images online and whatnot. So
again, Gordon, I threw itout on Friday, and I will carry
it over today. If there's anythingthat I and we can do here in
(45:10):
terms of whether that's connecting you, whether you have update on where people can
get resources, we would do everythingthat we can seven one, three,
two two five seven ninety. Youcan get a chainsuck or cut some trees
down. I don't know that Ineed to do that, but I will
pull up on folks and I canat least be entertaining while we're cleaning up
some stuff. That's about what that'sabout what you want? Somebody can talk
sports with it while you cut downtrees. Look, we can get somebody's
(45:34):
got a chainsaw. So staying aboutjose Ed Brave you, we'll see what
happens then all right. Also inthe news, I saw some images of
a healthy tank Deal running around, looked like he was ready for getting ready
for the season. His trainer spoke, and I forget where I saw where
I saw that. It wasn't inthe chronicle, I don't think. But
(45:57):
Tank Dale's trainer says that he likelywon't go during minicamp, but he'll be
ready to go by training camp. Why that intel is coming from the trainer
and not from the team, Idon't know, right, because there were
videos out saying he looks healthy andhe's running routes and everything. But then
you turn around you hear the trainand say he won't go for minicamp,
(46:17):
Like, wait a minute. Soif it was simply just an exit wound
and the bullet was in and out, and he's running the way he looks
in the video, then why wouldn'the go out there for many camp.
I'm not gonna read too much intoit, but I have to ask the
question, like, wait a minute, the team hadn't told us that,
Okay, so here it does that. Aaron Wilson talked to us. Delfonte
(46:37):
Diamond, who's the trainer, saidDell suffered a flesh wound and they shooting
in Florida. Diamond said Dell hada clear message it's time they go.
I'm ready to go, he toldAaron Wilson. Tank look good. It's
the real deal. He ain't losta step even though that stuff happened.
Three is ready to go. Hismental is good. He gave me a
(46:58):
hug, pick smile. Uh.Texas have Ota workouts this week. Diamond
said, I think Tomko will sithim out until the big camp in July.
I'm sure he'll watch practice. Tomikowants him to do routes on air.
He'll be at practice, I'm sure, but not a full go yet.
I don't know how I feel aboutthat. Well, I mean this
is very quick. I mean theOTAs this way, like guys get surgery
(47:23):
and then go play in that nextweek. I mean, it's it's he's
a rookie. He's played well comingoff for rookie season. He's played in
win eight games. Let's stop actinglike Tank Dall has made a Pro Bowl.
He needs to go catch as manypasses as he can. He hasn't
proved. He hasn't proven a damnthing. I'll be more he hasn't proven
a damn place. He was oneof the most productive repew wide receivers last
(47:44):
year. I can be productive ineight minutes. He was even he played
eight minutes. So y'all penciland likeTankdale, he needs to go work.
If he's able to run routes onair. He's able to run routes on
air with CJ Strout catching footballs inseven on seven drills. I want to
see Tankdale out there. That's notme bagging on Tank. He got shot.
I mean, it is what itis. But if he's healthy enough
(48:05):
to do all this stuff in thevideo, I want him to be out
there. Was he just says it'sso he's fine now July. He's already
to go for end of July forreal training camp. That I'd beat a
little bit concerted. In today's NFL, the Collective Bargaining Agreement is not as
team friendly as it once was. They only have a finite amount of time
that you could be on the field, whether it's in season or out of
(48:29):
season. Tankdale needs as many damnreps live action with the guys as possible.
I'm not saying his season is overif he doesn't go but I wouldn't
understand. If Tank Dale is seventyfive percent, then put his seventy five
percent out there and out wide andlet him go catch balls. That's where
I'm at. I just don't likewasted opportunities for any player, especially a
guy that had proven a damn thingthat had his rookie season cut short.
(48:52):
Just my observation, All right, let's get to the guy that's gonna make
this decision. Did you see therespeaking on social media? Did you see
Stephen else in his cryptic messages onthe X platform about CJ, about CJ,
about Demiko Ryans. So it soundedlike Stephen Nelson was challenging all of
the professional teams in the city tostep up and to make themselves available resources
(49:16):
whatever to assist in the effort withthe storms that came through that last week.
Then in a separate tweet, hesays, come on, milk dud
Ryans, do da da da dad, challenging Demiko outright, he said,
let's go milk dud man. Whatdoes that mean? And then in the
second tweet, he says, milkdud Ryans, it's time to kind of
(49:37):
like step up and not literally butput your money where your mouth is da
da da dasa. It's your timeto shine, damn it, that meathead
persona time to get your hands dirtyfor the city. What is Stephen Nelson
thinking here? You are currently unemployed, sir. The team you played for
last year couldn't use your talents.Well, but they there's a reason he's
not signed and they went in godacuda and sausage to him. I think
(50:00):
this is a message set. Thisis a little bit of Hey, I
like being at Taxi. I wantedto be back in the taxing y'alling resigned
me. I'm gonna take some shotsat you. How is this helping his
employment anywhere else in the league?Like, that's not going to help.
So I don't understand what Stephen Nelsonis trying to accomplish here. Now.
Maybe he's saying and in some ofthe messages, he was going back and
(50:22):
forth on one of the social platformswith one of his followers and he said
something like I'm gonna say it becauseI can. I guess he's alluding to
he's made enough money in this leagueand he's played enough ball that he has
the cachet to go say this. And remember this is compounding what he said
last summer about Nick Cassario, andyou can't trust an mffort that has a
(50:45):
swear to events and he posts apicture of the event. Why is Stephen
Nelson going personal with the dudes thatcan help him get employed. It doesn't
make sense to me. I don'tget it. Let's go take a phone
call before we wrap up. Iwant to get into a little bit,
Gordy, because we haven't talked reallyabout this at all. I'm looking at
some stuff on the Four Letter Network. The Final four, the conference finals
(51:07):
are set in the NBA. We'llget to that any other segment. For
now, Let's go to the phones. Friends of the station, friend of
the show, Michael and the Heights, what up? Don't you got power?
Now? No? I don't,Man, nature has forced my hands.
I've been at the Ben Clubs Ben'sClub since Thursday. Dogs. No,
I'm just kidding. Michael and Heights, Desiety and that Spine. They're
(51:29):
gonna hang my jersey, man,They're gonna hang my jersey, dude.
But don't go to the atm McGinntrust me once. All right, So
did you did you watch any instrosthis weekend? Yeah? I did?
Man, the Brewers. I wasa little nervous because teams like that,
you know, they're not like dominantlike the Yankees, but uh, you
know they're a good team and uhthey they did their business. But hey,
(51:52):
man, just gonna keep winning seriesand it's and it's looking good.
But uh, I'm I'm watching mydaughter today to day care, say go,
what the hell is going on?I'm like, are you still that
the men's club? And clearly yournote did you have your baby? Girl?
Yeah? The damn daycare got damaged. So yeah, but yeah,
(52:13):
Dan Asher's looking good and whoop forfeedo. Man, he's he's I'm liking
what I'm seeing. I mean,he turning on. He's had a lot
more early success than Alex Bregman andsome of our other young rookies. And
Tom Tucker's bu get paid. Heyman, you juste just brought up Stephen
Nelson. Bruh Stephen Nelson? Ayou listening? De co can whoop your
ass? Dude? I met himin person and that guy is gigantic.
(52:35):
Hey what Stephen Nelson? What ifdemico pleasure? Stephen Nelson? Have we
seen that? Have we seen acoach? Go? Uh, who's who's
fit enough to go off the beatenpath and knock somebody's ass? And my
Gundy Dan Campbell, Dan Campbell,Dan Campbell could Uh, I wouldn't run
up on Ron Rivera. Ron Reverais still like that old man stream and
(53:00):
put some hands on you. Whoelse looked like they could whip somebody's ass?
Seum Payton's fired enough, I meanhe'll come at you. Sean McVay
is just a small guy. Imean he's in shape, but he's a
He's a lover, not a fighter, though. Who else could fight?
Somebody appreciate my man Michael in theheights? Demiko he is Jack. I
really want to tell y'all something else. Dimko had another Uh he had a
verbal spat. He was protecting thekids over the weekend. He was at
(53:22):
a youth tournament or a youth athleticevent, and it sounds like things got
a little testy. Would I bea helicopter parent? Y'all think I'd be
too involved in the kids sports activities? Gordy, you absolutely would be a
helicopter parent. Connor, Oh,Gordy, absolutely, you be out there
(53:43):
talking about how many stars the kidhas, and uh, what is forty
time is you'd have a whole website. I seen enough of the dads who
or too invested that it's such aturn off. I don't think I would
go that route. Connor, realquick from you, would you be a
helicopter parent? No, because Ihated playing with the kids who had the
helicopter parents. Were your parents helicopterparents? No? My mom one time
(54:07):
in a youth basketball game, we'regonna I'm going to Charlotte next week and
we're gonna try and surprise her forher six or ninth birthday. Probably she
didn't say that, but I rememberone time vividly, and then we'll go
to break talking about hoops. Iwas in a youth basketball game. I
had to be like eight, maybenot even. I was in the groove
of Gordon. I was killing thefoods. I was during a year rod
(54:29):
before I even knew what Euro wasgiving them foods work in the Direct League.
Gordion I crossed half court, shesaid, shoot. I let it
rip, like, you can't betelling your kid to shoot cross half court
the team. I went, total, yolo, you know what real balls
are. Though, if your dadyelling at the other kids, that didn't
that don't produce no, then that'spunch law, Chad. You gotta be
(54:51):
better than that. How you gonnayell at somebody else's kid and the parents?
All Right, let's come back.Let's take a glimpse of the NBA.
Shall we also saw as it pertainsto the Houston Rockets, haven't talked
a lot of NBA. Want tosqueeze in a segment of NBA. Then
we will get back. I askedthis question about the Astros Lopaffito, Eric
Getty, Who else did we see? I'm missing somebody Lowpafito, Eric Getty,
(55:15):
the young guns, like the guysthat are obviously jerm opinions in that
group. Do we feel like thefuture of the Houston Astros these young guys?
Is it as good as shape aswhat Lunau built on the front end?
Al to Ve, Jordon and nosecrew those guys. We'll get to
that eleven thirty. I'll clean thatquestion up. Taking your phone calls here
(55:37):
on your home for Houston Sports SportsTalk seven ninety seven three two one two
five seven ninety This is next timestuff with Stan Norfleet and Chris Gordy during
this next stage on Sports Talk sevenninety. Welcome back into the program.
About forty minutes from now, MattThomas, Ross Viria, coming your way.
(55:59):
Matt Thomas, he has a show. He's been doing radio and media
in this city for a long time. He's always on my damn. He
texts me during every show. MattThomas. Still got to get him to
pay up. Gordon hadn't had mistakethen off Matt Thomas. Yet he did
send me some dates, so we'llmake sure we get that on the Sports
Talk seven ninety Twitter accounts, soy'all can see me make fun of Matt
(56:21):
Sports seven ninety dot com as wellas a free iHeartRadio app. Thanks to
all of you to have us presetnumber one in your automobiles. Matt Thomas
Radio, Voice of the Rockets. We've got the TV's on in the studio.
They're showing highlights now that the conferencefinals are set in the East and
Western Conference respectively. Gordon, youand I have not talked a lot of
(56:42):
NBA. Matter of fact, wehaven't talked to any NBA. I'm a
huge fan. I'm watching the games. I know that many of you listening,
some of you are hoopheads, someof you not so much in the
Western Conference. Let's get you caughtup the Timberwolves in a Game seven,
Timberwolves edge, y'all. Let's seethey beat the Denver Nuggets, so the
reigning NBA champions have fallen. TheTimberwolves are a three seed. They will
(57:07):
host the Dallas Mavericks. Luca andKyrie found a way to make it work.
Mavericks win a six game series overthe Thunder, so they'll get that
game going. What is the twentysecond quarter? What there is that?
That's Wednesday? We will get Gameone in the Western Conference Finals, Minnesota's
favorite. In Game one, goardedby four and a half over on the
(57:29):
east side of things. Also inGame seven, the Pacers go into the
Garden in New York one thirty oneon nine thok the Knicks to win Game
seven. Pacers find themselves back inthe conference finals for the first time in
a wild will as a sixth seed. They will play the Boston Celtics.
(57:50):
Celtics back in the Conference finals onethirteen to ninety eight. They won in
five games over the Cleveland Cavaliers. So it's said, Mass Timberwolves, Celtics,
Pacers, any interest to you.Chris Gordon will you be watching the
NBA Conference Finals. I mean,if nothing's going on, the Asters aren't
playing. Yeah, I watched alittle bit yesterday. I mean, for
(58:12):
for being Game Seven's I mean, the Timberwls had an awesome comeback, but
like the other one, the Pace, they were down twenty points, going
yeah no. But I'm saying, like, as for like late in the
fourth quarter, there wasn't a wholelot of drama they had built. They
were up like five, six, seven, like it was. In other
words, they came back, butthen they got they were up on they
were up. Once they got up, they put it away. It was
it wasn't a game. And thenthe other one, the Pacers were up
(58:34):
so much on the necks it waslike yeah, all right. So a
couple of thoughts from me. Ithink they're not breaking up Jaylen Brown and
Jason Tatum, but they've changed coaches, right, and Joe Missoula has done
a nice job in the aftermath ofeMate Udoka being let go from Boston and
option landing on his feet here inHouston. If the Celtics don't win this
(58:58):
one and getting the finals, thenI don't know what else they can do.
Right, They've tried this thing andit just doesn't appear to be working.
I have not seen the health updateon Christaps Porzingis. I think he's
gonna be crucial should they find themselvesgetting into the finals and bringing a ring
to Boston. We'll see what happensthere. The Pacers people were making fun
(59:21):
of Halliburton. He was hot tostart the year, then he went cold
a little bit. In this postseason, the young names that are being thrown
around, do you think Halliburton andAnthony Edwards will get eyeballs to the screen?
ESPN just had it up? Whatwas that? That was? Was
that next? Not next? Top? Excuse me? That was get up?
I think is what we were watchingand they had Oh no, Steven,
(59:44):
they Smith had it on first take. Is Anthony Edwards now the new
face of the NBA? You thinkyou're gonna draw eyeballs? Will people go
to the screen to watch ant man? He's taking a big leap. That's
officer like. People who didn't knowhim before now now know him. So
he's taking a big leap, buthe can like he continued to do that
(01:00:04):
the further the Timberwolves. Yet theTemperwolves get to the championship, and win
it. Yeah, everybody knows RudyGobert and Karl Anthony Towns, but Anthony
Edwards isn't necessarily a household name yethe's becoming that this postseason. He is
talking about being arrogant. Anthony Edwardsis an arrogant man. He's been that
way though. I was on theradio in Atlanta, his hometown, when
(01:00:27):
he was coming out of high schooland then obviously played the year at Georgia.
Nobody watched them at Georgia too.It was like it was such like
a like he was good, butthe team still was not great. They
didn't have much success there under coachKrean in Georgia, but he was awesome.
We all knew he was gonna bea lottery pick. We figured he
would be great. But he's beenthis Braggadocia's kid the entire time. It's
(01:00:51):
just who he is. But thecompany that Anthony Edwards and why I think
people should give him an opportunity toentertain him. The only players aged twenty
two or younger to average twenty fivepoints per game, five rebounds per game,
and five assists per game and reachthe conference finals, Kobe Bryant did
it in one, Lebron did itin seven, Anthony Edwards has done it
(01:01:13):
here in twenty four. So he'sin elite, elite company, so I
think that'll be good. I'm alsoI'm a big Luka Donchis fan. Not
necessarily like the dude, but hisgame. I have so much respect and
admiration for how Luca plays the game. He's not super athletic. You know.
Again, we somewhat criticize the foreignplayers and how their game translates to
(01:01:36):
the NBA. Same thing we didwith Nicola Jokic, We complained about him
not being a super bra athlete.I just appreciate guys that play great ball,
and Luca's an MVP candidate and heshould be. Luca's excellent. Luca
to me is mussy TV. Andwhen you combine him with Kyrie, do
you think who you think? When'sthat serious? Is what I'm trying to
(01:01:57):
ask you. God, I don'twant to refer Dallas. I know how
you all feel about anything. Dallas. I get it. Let's talk basketball,
can we basketball wise? Well,Luca is all right. I mean,
he's I don't know if he's necessarilya guy that you look at like
I root for it, like andKyrie, a lot of people just don't
root for anyway based off a lotof his off the court stuff. So
(01:02:19):
he's a Hall of Fame talent. If you if you have an issue with
Kyrie's game, you're just hating nothis game, but with his theories about
Earth being flat and art from artistspersonally. The questions still who they are
though, I mean Timberwolves. Timberwolvesare a fun story. I'm rooting for
them, but you know, andalso my guy Chris Finch, who was
really really cool when he was assistanthere under Kevin McHale and with the Rockets,
(01:02:44):
and then was an assistant with thePelicans, And when I used to
do a show in New Orleans,he used to come on everywhere. I
would text Chris Finch be like heycoach, and he get you on.
He'd come on. Talk awesome, just awesome, dude. A guy that
you knew he was waiting for hischance, had plenty of opportunities, had
interviews all almost like a Joe Spottalike, kept getting interviews, kept getting
interviews, never could get that headcoaching job. And now they's got it.
(01:03:06):
He's making the most of it andcouldn't be more happier for him.
I think the Timberwolves are gonna winthat series. I think, and and
Nikola Jokic said this, excuse meafter they got eliminated yesterday. The joker
says, this Timberwolves team, excuseme. They were assembled to beat the
Nuggets specifically clearly. They have sizeand car Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert.
(01:03:29):
They have shot blocking, they havelength, they have a guy that you
can just go give the ball to. They can score. They bring a
couple guys off the bench like theyhave, They've got a veteran point They
got everything you need. I thinkMinnesota's going to win in the West.
Let me say this, I thinkit's awesome to have these four teams.
Well, Celtics have really, Imean Celtics, have they ever had to
(01:03:52):
drop off? Like it feels likethey transitions. They're always there. Uh
and there are one seed. Butlike, it's awesome. The Pacers are
here. It's awesome, the Timberwolvesare here. And as much as we
hate them, yeah, it's coolwith the Mavericks have broken through it.
And I mean they were both onthe precipice of getting an NBA Finals.
But the TV networks and execs haveto be hating this. They're like,
(01:04:15):
I guess a Dallas Celtics Finals wouldbe sexy from a standpoint you get Luca
versus Tatum and that, but like, there's not enough star power here.
There's no Lakers, there's no Durant, there's no Steph Curry, there's no
Lebron. Like it really, Imean it hurts from that stample, but
from a from a standpoint of likewe want we're sick of the same people
(01:04:36):
every year. We want those newteams with a chance to break through.
This is awesome, the parody ofthe lead. I saw something. I'm
trying to bring it up as wego to break here. I saw something.
This is now here. It isthe NBA will crown a different champion
for the sixth consecutive season. Gordon. I think that's pretty cool. That's
(01:04:57):
awesome. We need that. Itwas too many years of go back and
look for about twenty years stretch. It was Spurs Lebron, Spurs Lebron,
then Golden State goes matters right throughthen Warriors, Warriors, Warriors, worse
Lakers. You know, heat, heat, heat, heat. It was
like it was like the same teamsover and over again last NBA TD bit.
Only one of the top fifteen highestpaid NBA players from this season has
(01:05:20):
made the Final four, Rudy Gobertat forty one million a year. All
these other dudes and all the moneythat has been doled out. Steph Curry
is at the top of the leagueat nearly fifty two million a year and
his assets on the couch watching NBAlike we are. It's not necessarily who
you pay is can you put theteam together? And I think the timber
(01:05:42):
Woolves have done a really good shot. They've done a really good job and
they have a good shot of winningthe whole thing. I like how that
team is a symbol. All right, let's come back. Let's get back
over here to minute May Park. We've got about half now before we get
you over to Matt Thomas Gordon. Many people are going over to the juice
box tonight. You have something aboutan idea about refreshment once. Yeah,
I was at the ballpark yesterday, saw a lot of people crack it open
(01:06:02):
some Crawford box. It was funny. It was it was a day where
they bring to kids around the Youknow the for the parade where they get
to walk around the basis before thegame, and saw some dads get out
of that line and going and gettingin going, get in the line to
grab some Crawford box from Carbock Brewing. There's nothing wrong with cracking open a
cold one watching some Astros baseball. In fact, the Crawford box pairs perfectly
(01:06:23):
with Astros baseball. You know what, when you see at the Tequila sunrise
stripes all over the ballpark, youcan get your big talk can and again
enjoy Astros baseball pairs perfectly with hotdogs, peanuts, whatever it is watching
the Astros, make sure you're doingit with a Crawford bock. You can
finde them in stores all over town. Do so responsibly again, browd right
here in Houston, Texas, it'sthe Crawford Box from Carbock Brewing. It's
(01:06:44):
a home run every time to theneck to the dirt road. This is
next time you kind of hit oneverything I wanted to say with stan Or
Vleet and Chris Gordy on Sports Talkseven ninety Hey, you I think I
think I have proved that I canwhen I can hold my own, But
obviously that those things are a bitabout my head, and I try not
to concern myself too much, justto just keep tying up to the art
(01:07:06):
working. Welcome back to your homeAstros Baseball right here on seven ninety stand
fleet Chris Gordon. Let's switch gears. Shall We just finished up a quick
NBA segment. I mentioned something aboutthe Rockets. There's a whole write up
Bobby Marks, who does a fantasticjob for ESPN dot com. He has
like a team by team analysis goinginto the off season. NBA Draft will
(01:07:30):
be here before we know it.We'll see what Imayadoka and Roephaelstone elected to
do with the third overall pick. And it's just not enough time to really
get into what I want to getto. We may save that as we
get closer to the draft. ButI'm really optimistic, And you brought it
up, Gordy, with teams likeMinnesota and look how they were built and
put together, and you look atsome of the prudent moves that the Pacers
(01:07:51):
have done and what they're doing.I have confidence that the Rockets could be
in a position like this here ina few years under Udokah. Given how
many young dudes are on their roster. Let's look at that though from an
Astro standpoint, that was Spencer Arraghettyin respondence to what it's like pitching at
the pro level and how he's adjustingand selling in Gordy yesterday are Grady goes
(01:08:15):
out there for six and a thirdand he gets he does get the win.
Brian and Brad you almost blew it, but he found a way to
hold on. So Bray you getsthe hold there. Speaking of young guys,
and I kicked this around with youoff the air. So this first
wave, give me the guys thatwere the pillars for the original Let's go
(01:08:38):
back like twenty sixteen to seventeen.Who were the pillars of those Astros team.
Who were the young guys at thatpoint? Yeah, I mean the
core was it was Springer, Correanow two ve two V Brekman and then
and then Brekman and Tucker really werethe young go ahead. But fifteen it
was because it was so funny theywere going through that terrible stretch of thee
(01:08:59):
hundred loss and the tearing down therebuild. I remember they take George Spurger
in the first round. I wantto say it was the twenty eleven drafts
somewhere around there, and then theyget Korea in the twenty twelve draft,
and I remember there there was talkthat because Correa was international, Byron Buxton
was the other guy, and therewas talk of most people were saying at
the time that Byron Buxton was Consistsusnumber one, and that the Astros actually
(01:09:21):
went cheap taking Correy over Buckston becausethey're like, oh, he's the he's
a cheaper player. They wanted topay him as much. And that was
actually a storyline at the time. Now you fast forward a decade later,
I think Correa has had a muchbetter overall career than Byron Buckston. He's
got a ring. But it wasfunny at the time. But then the
clock started staying and we were talkingin thirteen and fourteen. We kept looking
(01:09:42):
at the miners at what those guyswere doing. It was like they were
doing well at double A and thentriple A, and everybody was calling every
day. They're like, when arewe gonna see Springer? When are we
gonna see Korea? Like get theseguys up here, and the clock had
started, but it was all towait for that, and then twenty fifteen
they were head of schedule and theyboomed. They become a playoff team that
year because else Kichel's aw something andyou know, Colin mceue was really good.
But that was when that young coreall got here, and then into
(01:10:06):
sixteen and then seventeen where Bragman andTucker start, you know, coming up.
Well, actually Tucker wasn't even upyet, but it was Bragmant was
part of that that core with Springerand Korea and al twove and that was
really your young core, all right. I asked that because I want to
juxtapose that and compare that to andI'm thinking about Spencer Araghatty and bragging on
(01:10:29):
low Pa Fido. Let's look atthe snapshot we have of young dudes for
the astros right now, and doesthis young core how do they stack up
to that core? Can they accomplishthe things that have happened with that L
two V crew? So here arethe young guys, and by young,
I'm saying, who are guys thatare in their mid twenties? Ish?
(01:10:54):
All right? Brian and bray U'stwenty seven, Aaron Gatty's twenty four,
Hunter Brown's twenty five, Hobby istwenty seven go down here to Yanny diez
Is twenty five, Jeremy piny Istwenty six, Kessinger twenty six, your
(01:11:14):
On twenty six, Low Bafido twentyfive, Jake Mimes, Kyle Tucker twenty
seven. Who we want to Let'sadd JP France to that group, We
said, arra Getty, Who elseam I missing? Hunter Brown's a young
guy. Do you think this youngcrew is as talented as that as that
(01:11:35):
original crew you just outlined there?Well, no, because there's a certain
discrepancy in the talent where you foundthem. What does I gotta do it
the production though? Well, it'sit's the talent. Like first round picks
you you're supposed to and they're notall they're not all stars. There's a
lot a lot more busts than ourstars in Major League Baseball first rounders.
(01:11:55):
But you did something that was incredible. George Springer first rounder, Carl first
rounder, Bregman first rounder, Tuckerfirst rounder, and lets mccullors went in
that compensation round forty first overall, but he was just outside the first round,
right. I mean, that wasa run of you had incredibly high
picks. You haven't had that thelast five six seven years. In fact,
you lost to two years of firstround picks over the chieving scal But
(01:12:18):
look at what you've been able todo with great value. Jeremy Penya was
a third round pick and became aWorld Series MVP and currently leads the American
League. One of the best hittersin the American League currently. You know,
Hunter Brown was a fifth round pickand granted, yes he's had his
ups and downs. The hope ishe'll be able to get it all figured
out. Arraghetti was a sixth roundpick. Jake Myers was a thirteenth round
(01:12:41):
pick. Chas McCormick was a twentyfirst round pick. These are all guys
that you've hit on great value thathave become key contributors for you, and
so I know you like to detailwhere they were drafted. I'm looking at
the production right Well, I'm justsaying like the talent isn't going to be
as good because they're not first round, but that doesn't mean anything. A
lot of guys like Jimypinyon, thereare a lot of guys that were drafted
(01:13:02):
the two rounds before Pinia that haven'taccomplished what he has. Yanier Dz is
going to be an All Star.So I look at the future. Penya
had a bad year last year, agree, But if we take what he's
doing right now and do a trajectoryoff of this, Like Carls krez Is,
he did a lot at a highlevel for a long time here in
Houston, he was awesome. Butthat's not to say Paanya can't surpass him
(01:13:23):
at some point if he keeps thisup. And I'm not saying like,
just because Penya doesn't have stat forstat what Korea has or would have accomplished
over the course of a career.I'm saying, collectively, can Nish Young
Kore continue this run to get toALCS. It's like I believe the Astros
(01:13:44):
can win a World Series with JPFranz being a frontline starter. I've been
I know he's been down. I'mthinking about last year and what he's done
this year. We'll see. Irrigattydoesn't look like it's too big for him.
I believe they rested him a bit, but it doesn't look too big.
I can see a world where LopoFido is on a World Series team
outfield, Like I started looking atthese young pieces. We talked about Jeremy
(01:14:04):
Pinionaire, Yanni and Diaz. KyleTucker is going to be a staple.
I think he's gonna get his money, He's gonna remain in Houston Astro and
right, they've already want to weara series with Kyle Tucky and right,
so I think Christian Haavea is twentyseven. I think they can accomplish collectively.
The things that they're really were talkingabout is winning a title. Can
(01:14:24):
this young core win a title?Because if you do that, all those
other people. Joanon Alvarez has anopportunity to be a Hall of Famer.
I think he can continue to bethat title. Yeah. Absolutely, And
really it starts with pitching too.I mean you go back to seventeen and
your pitching that year was it wasDallas Kichele, Mike Charlie Morton, Lance
mccullors, and then some combination ofcall him a que Mike Fires and Brad
(01:14:46):
Peacock say that Fire's name, well, I'm just you know, and Brad
Peacock. Then look at this currentpitching staff led by Justin Verlander from ber
Valdez, Christian Xavier. Uh,you know, presumably you didn't get Jose
or Kit and and What's what's crazyis it's Holds Blanco. He's thirty,
(01:15:09):
but still like, yeah, thispitching staff is light years better than that
twenty seventeen staff. Uh. Andthen if you want to go lineup wise,
yeah, I mean Brian McCann wasreally good at catcher, but like
Janner Diez, you know his whatMcCann gave you that that one year,
Like the hope is Yaner Diaz couldgive you that what McCann gave you at
(01:15:29):
first base. Obviously, Julie Gurielis gonna trump whatever you got at first
base right now. You got tofigure that out long term. Altwove's al
Twove. We talked about Corea versuspay yea. Bregman is Bregman. But
look at your outfield that year.It was it was George Springer, Josh
Reddick. Uh. You know,Carl's Beltran plays some outfield, nor Ri
Aoki played some outfield, but reallyyou were playing some Jake Marisnick, Cameron
(01:15:49):
Mabon. By the end of theyear, like, yeah, this outfield
went healthy of like Jordan Jake Myers, Kyl Tucker. That's a better collective.
No, Springer was the best ofthe group. Agree, But but
yeah, like I think we're justgoing pound for pound comparing to that early
the early years of success with theAstros with now, yeah, I think
(01:16:10):
this this has a chance to beeven better. Just selectively, just something
that popped in my head. Ithought we had a conversation. As the
Astros are back in action again atthe conclusion of the A team at six
pm local time, we will getAstros on deck. Angels are in town
for a three game series. We'llcome back. You're ready to hand things
off to Matt Thomas, your radiohome of your Houston Astros and your home
for Houston sports Sports Talk seven ninetydo it again, Onto, done next
(01:16:39):
to as more of Next Up continuesnow on Sports Talk seven ninety, home
of your world champion Houston Astros.Shout out to the Mexican o T I
really like that song. Stamfleet,Gordy Conneby McGovern, get ready to sign
off here Matt Thomas and Rassam atthe bit to get a here and talk
(01:17:00):
to Mastros. And if you missedthe previous segment, luckily for you,
you can go to Sports seven ninetydot com at the conclusion of this program
and get caught up. Also thefree iHeartRadio app. Thanks to all of
you to have us pre set numberone, and you whip kicking around some
and I asked the question, arewe confident in this young Astro's corps right
now, including Spence Irraghetti, includinglow Pafito, including you said run at
(01:17:25):
Blancos thirty, Yannia Daz for example, Jeremy Pina, Jrdan Ken, that
young crew, because there is alife for the Astros after al tu Vey
and Bragman and who else is left? Who else is of the old god
Tucker's twenty seven, Yeah, buthe's also potentially next year could be his
last year here, could be sookay that for that conversation, I'll put
(01:17:48):
him in there. So we're talkingfive years from now. There's a world
where Low Pa Fito's in the outfield, and so is Jake Myers, and
there's Pignette short, maybe Dubon isat second. Dubon is older, but
I'm just trying to flush it outin my head. They'll get somebody to
be at first base, They'll getsomebody over at third. But there's Jon
(01:18:09):
there, Diz catching like this youngCord Jordan to be d h and at
left. This Young cor could accomplisheverything or as much as the original Young
Core did back in you know, fifteen, sixteen seventeen, So it's just
something to kick around. I wasreminded of a tweet. This is from
(01:18:29):
Todd The Show. He says,Jake Myers was drafted by Luna. James
Klick really liked Jake Myers and dideverything he could to ensure Jake Myers played.
Dama Brown is now doing the samething, even at the expent of
pushing Chas McCormick to left field. That's three MLB general managers having seen something
(01:18:50):
in Jake Myers. So we shouldn'tbe surprised Jake is breaking and playing as
well as he is. I thoughtthat was an interesting one. I mean,
I just saw I'll just say it, We'll take it. We'll take
it while he's doing it. Imean, it's it's great. He's hot
right now, he's average over threehundred. It's awesome. It may not
sustain all year, and that's fun, that's baseball. But right now,
yeah, he's swinging a hot stick. What another multi hit game yesterday.
(01:19:15):
It's just his ops right now againstright is his eight ninety eight it's eight
eighty nine against lefties, he's he'scrushed in nine to twenty overall, it's
his ops. It's just it's He'she's been awesome and he's been a big,
big piece of why you've been onea lot. It's just so funny.
Stan. It's like a few weeksago, we're going, what's wrong
with the Astros? What's going rightwith the Astros? And I think I
said multiple times, and it's like, guys just aren't producing. Like the
(01:19:39):
Joe Spott is doing the right thing, he's putting the right lineup card together.
These guys are hitting and and they'recrazy, Like they start hitting and
suddenly we're like, oh, that'sthe Astros. That's the team we're looking
for. Like, I don't knowwhy they didn't hit four weeks ago,
but they're doing it now. Oneof the questions we had we all knew
and we say it on this show. Let me say it that way.
I did not leave them for deadwhen they were playing awful baseball. I
(01:19:59):
just commented about what they showed. They're playing better baseball now. Does that
coincide with the level of competition? You know, you sweep the age?
Okay, that's a bad baseball team, got it, But they won the
series versus Detroit. Detroit is adecent team and coming off this three game
series win, winning two or threeversus the Brewers, this is your best
(01:20:21):
say, So let's look at thisfor what it is. The Astros get
their series win versus the Brewers. The best team they faced since probably the
Texas Rangers in the first what wasthat in the second week of the season.
I would put the Yankees in thereas well, So I would say
the Yankees. And we know theystruggled, with the Yankees only winning one
(01:20:43):
of the seven games they played thusfar. So the Yankees, you lose
that series, you win the series. What four to three I think is
what the series plitty is versus theTexas Rangers. And then you come back
and win this series versus the Brewers. So I asked you, who are
the real twenty four Astros? Theteam we saw this weekend, or the
team that showed up the first weekversus the Yankees, or even early this
(01:21:04):
month in the Bronx versus the Yankees. Who's the real Astros? Do we
yet know? Well? And thenagain that's where I said, like they've
won nine to eleven. They're lookingawesome right now, but it's again one
sixty two. There's going to bea stretch in a week or two where
they lose five games in a row, like it's gonna happen again. So
but like this looks more like whatwe expected the twenty twenty four Astros to
(01:21:25):
be, so, you know, and again great opportunity here with the Angels
coming to town tonight they stink, and then going to Oakland on Friday,
they stink. I would fully expecttwo out of three here, two out
of three this weekend, and thenlet's go to Seattle and see where we
are. I'm reminded that I didnot think the Astros were going to win
this series because of who was takingthe mound, with Arraghatty taking the mount.
(01:21:46):
I brought that up earlier. Itwas Hunter Brown Friday, JV Saturday,
Arraghetty Sunday. And we've always toldyou that later it's gonna be the
one they give they lose. LikeI didn't see it because of the pitching.
I was like, I don't Andby the way, that at bat
against that series or sequence with contraras, you can't tea Yeah, I mean,
like, I look at Erlin,I go, bro, it's not
it's not your fault. I meanyou you got you put everything you had
(01:22:09):
in your arsen on. The dukekept going foul fall Fu just kept having
and if he gets a fly ballthere, it's a one to one game,
going to the going to the fifties, You're like, all right,
we're good, but you know itjust it becomes four to one. Your
bats couldn't do enough. But evennow I'm willing to like look past because
bats have been so good every othergame since then. Fair point by you.
I remind you. This Brewers serieswas the first time the Brewers have
(01:22:31):
been at minute May part since twentynineteen. Not a customs seeing the brew
crew. Yeah, I love thebalance scheduling now where you get to play
everybody in the league. Now Ido too. It's it's a lot more
fun. Yeah, I do aswell. All right, let's get ready
to get up out of here.We got to keep our eyes on this.
Ryan Presley saw a thumb on histhrowing hand. Who is that?
(01:22:53):
Dana Brown says, we likely won'tsee Ryan Presley for a few days.
Huh. All right? That todo it for us? All right,
