(00:00):
Also off today are the Houston Texanswho have been in the news. They
have found themselves catching the eye ofthe football world and pundits are speculating as
to exactly what happened at the practicefield yesterday. We have our insider,
one, Aaron Wilson, who joinsus now via the guest line. Aaron,
(00:21):
good morning to you. Hope you'restaying dry and join the day off,
not having the practice or watch practiceover at NRG. Thank you.
Yeah, it's nice to just kindof split things marine a little bit about
some of the arfls I'm working onand just think about a few things and
get a chance to also have somedowntime at some point today. Yeah,
(00:44):
it's good. It's great to talkto you guys, all right. Always
a pleasure to have you. I'mgonna start here. I am so pissed
off at Derrick Stingley Jr. Thatis, And Emmy carefully, that is
a punk move what he did, shoving Dalton Schultz in the back to the
ground when he knew Dalt Schultz couldn'tsee him. I don't know what got
intingly, and I actually don't care. It's a I'm not calling the I'm
not calling the dude a pump.I'm saying that is a hive. There's
(01:11):
a little more to it. Thereare two sides on what decide is he
shouldn't have done it, but goahead, okay, Well there were some
as you saw the video from thefan, we were not allowed to shoot
during this period. They had,uh, you know, a hit and
you know they didn't like the offenseof Jimmy Ward, Who's you know,
(01:33):
a hard hitting, aggressive hype ofsafety. That's who he is. He
hits Diggs. Diggs doesn't hurt.Diggs has nothing to do with the altercation.
There have been some very bad socialmedia posts from some people, I
think looking for clickbait. He hadnothing to do with the altercation. His
teammates took up for him. Theywere upset. So it goes back and
forth. You have Dalton Schultz, you have a lot of guys. Derek
(01:57):
Stingley Jr. Was not a partof that, but there was some dawing
between him and Dalton Schultz at somepoint. This isn't in the video.
Don't Schultz grabs his face mask. There's a push of the face mask like
sort of like a mush in theface kind of thing, and so tempers
are hot, their words exchange, there's some daring back and forth, and
(02:22):
that's after that, that's when hehits them. And he was unhurt.
But yeah, you know, thingslike that happened. Tempers do flare,
but there was there was more toit than just like an unprovoked attack.
I don't care. You don't shovea teammate in the under any circumstances.
He was essentially attacked first, butthat's not on the video. I wouldn't
(02:46):
give a damn go ahead, goit, Okay, I'm just telling you
there's more there's about about don't timeout the Adalton shove Derek Stingley in his
back where he didn't see it.Did he kick him in the jewels?
Wait, he didn't see it,grab grabbed him by the face, mushed
(03:07):
him in the face and they wentback and forth. If it's in his
face, If it's in his face, that means Stingley could see it.
At that point. It's two menthat can see each other. Have that.
When you shoved me in the backas a teammate, that is a
lack of respect for me, notjust as a teammate, as a man.
Should have whooped his ass. Goahead, it's not good. It's
(03:30):
just it is what it is.He should have had the practice, he
should have pulled his ass away fromthe crowd, and he should have told
him because you're never going to respectme if I allow you to get away
with that. You can't allow somebodyto get away with that. Go ahead,
good, I'm sorry, Cooler, cooler prevailed. Yeah, Uh,
(03:50):
let's talk some football. Uh,Aaron the h the goodness distingly actually had
a good day. UH covering andand and the other story of the off
season or the uh has really beenKamari Lasser as well, really stepping up.
What have you see from the secondaryin those corners? Well, yeah,
Derek totally agree with you. Imean he's looked great out there.
The interception on Tank Vale and thecompetitiveness, you know, making sure that
(04:14):
he would get credited with the interceptionand that no one's going to take the
football back from him. I loveto see that. And he's been out
there making plays. He's challenged somuch, Chris, because he's always out
there against the best guy. Sohe has so many reps against this great
receiving corps and they're always looking tolike measure themselves, well, what can
I do against sting And I thinkit's only great preparation for him to play
(04:41):
the way he did at the endof the season. He's at a different
level right now. And even sometimestwo when he's allowed one, it's because
it's safety. He's not there. There's some things like that. They're still
working on some communication. Kamara Lasterhas been really the story of camp because
if they can lock down the numbertwo spot opposite him, he's doing everything
that you would hope for. Talkingwith Corey Umlin, the defensive passing Game
(05:04):
quarter, he said, this isprobably one of the most impressive young players
he's ever worked with. He's beencoaching a long time. And to me,
what's a great sign. I worryabout these that don't do this.
If you can't challenge the football makeplays on the ball very early in your
career, obviously you're not even closeto making a play. They're just going
to catch passing you. Right. He's right there, he's making the play,
(05:29):
he's knocking them down. The nextstep is he didn't have a lot
of interceptions at Georgia, picking offsome of these passes. I think that's
where he can take his game taventhe higher level, but no, I
think the secondaries look good. Ilike Jaylen Patriot Nickel. I think that's
more his comfort zone. And ifit winds up being Kaitlyn Bullock or Eric
Murray next to Jimmy Ward, Ithink that that's fine. I think that's
(05:49):
a good way to go. Butthey have great depth with Desmond King.
He's a standing returner too, sothere's a role for him as well.
But it doesn't have I have tonecessarily be jalens a Nickel. Only it
could be a little bit of both. Talk with Aaron Wilson, our Texans
and NFL insider here at seven ninetyTexans not practicing today, Aaron is out
(06:12):
there all the time getting some newsand nuggets what's going on around the team.
I think we can put to bedfor some that care about this type
of thing. But bringing back StefanDiggs into the conversation, it is clear,
I know Nico didn't practice, notyesterday. He didn't he practiced yesterday,
not the day before, and helooked damn good, did Nico?
I saw some footage of him makinga real agile move on the sideline after
(06:36):
catch the ball. Some yards afterthe catch type of deal. Stefan Diggs
is the best receiver out there? Is that not what your eyes have seen
thus far. It's I think theway he's looked better, and he obviously
is a better overall route runner andthe more experienced, more accomplished guy.
But as far as like how campuslooks they're trying to throw him the ball.
(06:59):
They know what they have with Nicoand Tank in terms of the chemistry
and the timing already with CJ,there's an emphasis that's going on where they're
directing it a lot. That's CJbuilding something with someone's gonna be one of
his primary targets, and so thatI think that's part of the reason why
it does look that way. Butyou know, Nico, he's gonna be
heard from plenty all year. It'llbe interesting to see how the targets work
(07:23):
out. He's basically just throws theopen guy. But this time in camp,
this is the time for him toget in the lab and build that
with Stefon, and that's what they'redoing. I think that's smart because you
already have that connection with Nico. You know that's good, So build a
new connection, not forgetting the oldconnection. Give me a thought on we
(07:43):
talked about the secondary. This isa big year for Jaln Petrie because he
grabbed us all his rookie season. We were excited about him. Then last
year it was some ups and downswith his game, and we think a
lot of that had to do withscheme. I know he's been kind of
cross training at the Nickel spot. What did you see from James and Petrie
so far? He looks more comfortable. He loves playing there. It's what
(08:05):
he did at Baylor when he wasthe star. That's what the called position
there. He was the Big twelvedefensive player of the year. I like
what he can do close slant ofscrimmage. I like the blitzing aspect of
his game, and I think thathe may give you a little better cover
guy in close quarters against tight endsand some slots than maybe you were having
(08:28):
last year where nickel was a bitof an adventure until Desmond really finally solidified
it and played very well at theend of the season. So I like
the idea of just trying to getthe best out of player that maybe playing
deep safety all the time wasn't hisback. Maybe it wasn't him, and
so you see, I mean youhave to always a value your own talent
(08:48):
and use people the best possible way. So you know, whether that's you
know, the radio biz or writingyou know, articles or whatever, some
of them might do well accentuate that. So that's what they're doing with him.
They're accentuating what his skills are.All right, And we got to
be short here. We'll get youout here on this one. I did
(09:09):
a segment, yesy excuse me,we did a segment city. I brought
up the point of I am veryimpressed by how Will's body looks. I'm
very impressed with the resume and whatI've seen from Daniel Hunter. I saw
Denik called Archery Flash one of thoseplays. I think I got some video
of Deniko doing some good things.Just what you've seen. Who's getting the
best of who? Two days now? With pads on offensive line versus defensive
(09:31):
line fifty to fifty defensive line aheadwhere we at, I think a lot
of wins for the defensive line, but we don't have larry Ton slot there
yet. But they've they've had youknow, a lot of success against you
know, Blake Fisher and Titus attimes Titus and more competitive than Blake.
I mean, it's a hard blockingassignment. Daniel Hunter one of the best,
(09:52):
Will Anderson Junior also one of thebest. And then the depth with
Mario Edwards Jior. The coach's raveabout Denico archery. It's a very good
group, especially on the perimeter. Those guys are on the edge and they're
ahead, but you know, arethey blocking to the grounds? You know,
really the most intense Yeah, pleasedon't do that. Then maybe we
(10:18):
have more little skirmishes like who you'retalking about the start of the show.
But to me that it's a defenseis ahead quite a bit and they're making
a tough for them out there.Daniel Hunter, I don't know why he
wasn't talked about more. I'm notsure it doesn't matter, but Daniel Hunter
is elite. This is one ofthe Just look at him. He's built
(10:41):
out of granted, it's amazing, and he's fast and loose. He was
a track athlete at Morton Ranch youtand Katie. He's incredible. I think
big things, big sack numbers Ithink are possible for him. With Will
Anderson j on the other side. All right, that's the voice of Aaron
Wilson, Texas and NFL Insider, thanks for dropping by giving us a camp
(11:03):
update. We will hear from youas the guys resume action tomorrow and into
the weekend. Maybe we will grabyou next week here. What's going on?
Always good to see you over atNRG. There are some things that
just rubbed me the wrong way aboutthis great game that we love and Stingley's
action as well as Jimmy Ward thosebecause that was unnecessarily about Jimmy as well.
So we'll talk some more about that. Aaron Wilson following him, won't
(11:24):
