Stan Norfleet and Chris Gordy of Next Up discuss the NFL trade deadline approaching Tuesday. Coming off a 21-13 loss to the Jets that further exposed problems on offense, will the Texans look to make a move to get their season back on track before the Detroit Lions come to town for Sunday Night Football? Let's see what's next NEXTX.

Speaker 6 (00:23):
Here we go on a Monday line from the Sports
Talk seven ninety studios Nelton in between Uptown Park and
River Oaks for the next two hours. That's you're damn right,
that's right, it's next up. Sitting in the call pilot chair.
That's me standing Northfleet, new to the station, new to
the show or our returning thank you for doing so,
Welcome back. I can be found on social at stand
Sportsman to my left, my radio partner program director around

(00:45):
these parts, he is Chris Gordy. Find him on social
at just that. There's Connedy McGovern. Appreciate him. Saint Thomas Alum,
find him at Connedy McGovern. Here we go on a Monday,
one more game left to go in Week nine of
the NFL regular season. We know that the Texans started

(01:05):
Week nine that absolute bleep show up at MetLife Stadium
and eight Rutherford, New Jersey, and I ain't gonna like
tell you guys. I'm still pretty pissed about it. I
said that on social to kick off NFL we are yesterday,
NFL Sunday yesterday. It did feel good, by the way,
to just be a fan a lot of times, Gordon,
we're locked in and whether you know the guys and

(01:26):
I over at NRG or we're all monitoring social media
getting ready for the away games and all that, it
did feel good. Excuse me to just kind of be
a fan on Sunday. But I'm watching the rest of
these teams and the state of where the NFL is,
I mean, what the hell? And the Texas has pissed
me off. I'm not even ready to look at power rankings.
I saw some PFF grades. It just still what was it,

(01:50):
forty eight hours at that time Thursday, Friday, Friday, say,
seventy two hours at that time. Still didn't feel the
way I wanted to. All Right, So we'll get into
Texans expectations. We are more than halfway through the twenty
four regular season. Are your expectations still in alignment now
where they were to start the season. We know the

(02:10):
NFL trade deadline will be upon us three pm local
time tomorrow. Gordon what will Nick Caserio do when I
asked the question where do your priorities lie? Mine have
changed a bit. I'll explain that as we make our
way here. Gordiy Rockets make a valiant effort over the weekend,

(02:31):
down thirty one to Golden State, take it the overtime,
and they come up short in overtime, losing the Golden State.
New York Knicks in town tonight over at Toyota Center.
Will get Ben Dubo's our Rockets analysts here on next
up and at the station we'll get him to drop by.
He's the editor USA Today's the Rockets. Why are also
the longer line pod you can hear right here also

(02:55):
Bregman watch Gordon. Four PM. Today we'll find out if
Astros General manager Dana Brown will indeed extending offer and
will Bragman signing offer to return to the Houston Astros.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
That to come likely in the eleven o'clock hour.

Speaker 6 (03:10):
So with that being said, gentlemen, before we get back
to Texas business, good morning. Hope everybody had a pleasure
of the weekend. Mine started alright, ended up a little
bit rough on some personal things, but nonetheless here we are.

Speaker 7 (03:22):
Yeah, and big game. It was weird watching this, you know,
I was watching a Sunday game last night. Right at
the end, Collinsworth. Then who's the other guy? I don't
know why. I want to say a Michaels. He's debockling
in up on thursdaynight football. But yeah, Tariico and collins
Worth go, well, we will be in Houston next time
you see us for Lions and Texans. And it was

(03:45):
just it was that stark, you know, like settling in.
Oh God, that is the next opponent, the Lions. It
looked pretty good, arguably the.

Speaker 6 (03:53):
Best team in the league. Absolutely obliterate the Green Bay
Packers yesterday. Now there was some precipitation radio professional, and
and then you got Dion Branch, you know, the Alabama
safety I was in love with, laying out dudes getting tossed.

(04:15):
He likely will not be eligible to play for at
least the first half.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
I think.

Speaker 6 (04:19):
I'm not sure if it's the first half or a
suspended the whole game. I forget how the NFL does that. Nonetheless,
green Bay gets beat up on by y'all, and I
say obliterated. The score was twenty four to fourteen. But
if you look at the Lions in the second court.
It was seventeen to three at the half. Lions clearly
the best team. Many are saying the Lions. If the
Lions in Kansas City were to play today, many people

(04:40):
are saying the Lions are the better team.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Now.

Speaker 6 (04:43):
I'm assume Vegas will put the money on Patrick Mahomes,
the reigning two time world champions. Here they come Gordy
the Lions, who do not seem to show much ill
effect from not having Aiden Hutchison, who was the leading
vote getter for Defensive Player of the Year prior to
him going out with the broken leg a couple of
weeks ago. It sounds like they're gonna go get Zadarius Smith,

(05:06):
the edge defender formerly of Baltimore, currently of Green Bay.
Oh No, he was in Green Bay, Baltimore, the Green Bay,
Green Bay. Where's he at now? Is he in Cleveland?
I don't know where Zadariasmith is. I think he's in Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Anyway. They talking about bringing him to Detroit. So here
they come. He's a Brown, all right, So here they come.

Speaker 6 (05:22):
On Sunday night, the second of what is three consecutive
nationally televised games.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
By the way, no sacks in the game yesterday for
the Lions.

Speaker 6 (05:32):
Yeah, I guess they look at it, well, we don't
really need to sack CJ. Because the Jets took care
of that for us. I remind you that CJ. Stroud
was sacked eight times there on Thursday night. So to
start this thing, we get some breaking news, goheare, I
know what impacts your Nola Saints there, but I do
just want to kind of canvas the league as we

(05:52):
set up the next segment here in a couple of minutes,
like the State of the NFL yesterday, there was the
So on Thursday night you get the Garrett Wilson, the
third one handed jump man logo, catch back in the
end zone, the shin touchdown is what people are calling it, Gordon.
Many of people saying play of the year. Saquon Barkley
jumping forwards while turned backwards over a dude hurdling, real

(06:17):
action and defender. That's got to be one in one A.
Which one was the best play? To you?

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Is the Eagles?

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (06:23):
They take care of the Jaguars twenty eight to twenty
three in Philly yesterday Eagles six and two Jaguars A
woe for two and seven. They've already begun selling their assets.
Better play Garrett Wilson Thursday night or Saquan at the
Link on Sunday.

Speaker 7 (06:39):
I mean, Quan moves stupid. Think we'll ever see that.
I've never seen it, period. I've never seen a dude
an NFL player jump forward hurling a dude while facing
the opposite direction. Never seen it now And to any
high school kids, Saquon is a world class athlete.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Please do not try that at home.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
Around the league anything else that stood out to you,
and I mentioned many people are saying the Lions best
team in the league, most certainly in the NFC, the
Baltimore Ravens forty one to ten. We know that Baltimore
will be here on Christmas Day, week seventeen. In the
National Football League, Baltimore Wallops a good Broncos team. Broncos
were five and three coming into M and T Bank

(07:25):
Stadium yesterday, forty one ten and Derrick Henry again another
one hundred yard games. Lamar Jackson, the guy that they
said couldn't pass Gordon. They said, Lamar, you're not accurate.
But the Gripe boys get him some weapons. They have
since gotten him in the league, all of them. Lamar
Jackson can't throw the football.

Speaker 7 (07:45):
Just that first his first year or so, it was
like you could see he was a special talent. They
were just giving him what Willie sneid and like garbage receivers.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
They finally got him some dudes.

Speaker 6 (07:56):
The fourth game in Lamar Jackson's career with a perfect
passer rating, He is now the first and only player
in the history of the league to hit the one
point fifty eight point three mark four times in games
with at least fifteen attempts. He just passed Been Roethlisberg
and some other guys that had done it three times.
I think Breeze is on that list anyway. Lamar Jackson

(08:19):
bad man. How about Derrick Henry. We're nine games into
Derrick Henry's tenure in Baltimore. Drren Henry has one thousand
yards right now, with a little bit less than half
the season left to go. Drreck Henry is still badass.
And everything that we feared about the RPOs and the
mesh concepts with Lamar and you know, handing off to

(08:41):
Dereck Henry or pulling it, all of that has come
to truition. And don't look now, but after losing in Houston.
The Buffalo Bells have now won four in a row.

Speaker 7 (08:50):
They're one of the hottest teams, and I mean they're
looking pretty damn good. Josh Allen's playing the high level.
They're undefeated at home, much like the Texans. I think
the tax Texans, Bills, and Chiefs are the only teams
that are undefeated at home so far this year.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
This is correct.

Speaker 7 (09:05):
The Steelers, they had a bye week, but they're sitting
pretty at six and two. I mean, so yeah, the Texans,
you start to look around, that one loss, that one
stupid loss up in New York against the lowly Jets come.
I mean, it's brought the Texans crashing back down on
to the earth, and now you got these teams jumping
ahead of them.

Speaker 6 (09:23):
The Texans right now would be in the fourth spot.
But guess who's in the fifth spot if the playoffs
begin to day the Baltimore Ravens. So the Ravens would
come Steelers, correct, the Ravens would come here. Can't play
in a game, And right now we need those Chargers
to keep putting some wins together. We need Justin Herbert
to come to Houston. That's what we need. The other

(09:43):
other thing is we go to break just again canvas
in the league, and we'll talk exclusively Texans the next
two segments. As I asked a question and looking around
the rest of the league with one game to go
tonight where the Chiefs are favored by nine at home
versus the Buccaneers, the Texans not have they met your expectations?

(10:04):
Let me ask that more cleanly? Do you still believe
they can accomplish what they set out to do to
start the year? Wherever you had the Texans at, if
you had them at a friends playoff team, are they
still in alignment? If you had them in the AFC
title game? Can you still see that? Hell, if you
had them in the Super Bowl? Do you think there's
a way they write this ship? With the trade deadline

(10:25):
coming up tomorrow? We know Election Day and all of
those things tomorrow, But where are they at in terms
of where your expectations? Do you think the goals are
still achieved? Viove start with that, and then CJ. CJ
had something to say Thursday after the game that I missed,
and I saw this over the weekend. Gordon, there's trouble

(10:45):
in paradise over there. NRG and this thing could be
a lot deeper than the team is helping us understand
it is. We're just getting started. On a Monday. On
the other side, real Texans Talk and listen to seven.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Ninety when Fleet steaks Houston.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
You guys have a great shot, already.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
A huge brand. I'm liking your stuff.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
Stanton or Fleet and Chris Gordy are next on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (11:10):
All right, let's keep the same moving here on a Monday.
Let's have a great week, setting its own Energy's gotta
be right Fleeting Gordy with you till noon coming. I'm
sor I don't say, coming out of week nine, coming
out of week nine Sunday, we know there's a Monday
night contest to put the final touches on week nine
where the Texans came up short. Couple notes that I
did leave off that I wanted to mention coming out

(11:34):
of week nine, A game that had my attention in
the twelve o'clock window, Cowboys at Falcons. Dak hurts his
hamstring laid in that ballgame. CDE Lamb, CD lamp Yep.
Excuse me, CD Lamb hurts his shoulder. Excuse me, I'm
reading something trying to get himself together. Falcons six and three.

(11:55):
Falcons leading the NFC South and the Cowboys, who the
Sexans will face a week from tonight.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Is that right? Sunday Monday? Yeah? Next Monday night?

Speaker 5 (12:08):
No?

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Is that right? Two Mondays? Thank you?

Speaker 6 (12:11):
This short week has my clock all messed up? Anyway,
two weeks from today, eighteenth, Monday Night Football, We're going
up to Jered World and do the thing some people
are asking. Will the Cowboys be sellers at the deadline?

Speaker 7 (12:26):
We'll see where that Cooper Rushleick pretty good they should
sell dok.

Speaker 6 (12:30):
Not with that sixty million a year. He can't pay
no way in hend. No, No, they're good on that. Oh,
I do want to go back. So that's the Cowboys.
They're a mess. It's not gonna happen this year. It's fine.
NFC East has gone nineteen consecutive seasons without a repeat champ.
No surprise there. We'll see what they do at the deadline.
I want to go back to this. Bills over Dolphins

(12:53):
thirty twenty seven. This came out last week and it
wasn't by a reputable source. But I was sitting around
with folks yesterday afternoon and this was brought up, so
I figured i'd to address it. Many have asked us
going to give me names for Nick Casserio to go pursue. Well,
everybody's talking offensive line, and we will as well. Tyreek's

(13:14):
Hill name has come up. Tyreek Hills a wide receiver
the Dolphins. He's making a ton of cash. He's thirty
million a year.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Now.

Speaker 6 (13:22):
Casserio's got money to play with. So the Texans are
not capped, broke.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
Not that kind of money.

Speaker 7 (13:28):
Don't you just made Tyreek Hill one of the highest
paid receivers you're talking about, Nico.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
I'm sorry, Nico.

Speaker 6 (13:32):
So as the Miami Dolphins have shown you, as the
Eagles are currently showing you, as the San Francisco forty
nine ers are showing you, you can pay multiple weapons
towards top of the market money. I think they can
make it work. Now, it depends, obviously will be pro
rated this year and then Casario will figure out. Now
I don't think it's real. I think Tyreek will remain

(13:55):
a Dolphins. That's how we people playing Madden on PLAYSTATIONE.
Sorry you're saying here zero chance. Yeah, no, I'm not
saying zero. They're not the Miami stop moving him. I
don't think Miami will be moving but they're two and six.
Don't know.

Speaker 7 (14:08):
But there was even a report that came out this
morning that's said the Dolphins suspiked their record, are not
boiling this thing up and feel that they can turn
it around.

Speaker 6 (14:15):
They just need to get on a hot streak. That's
a mistake. They also have a quarterback issue. I don't
trust too is Hell bless his heart, So Tyreek is
not the talent. Tyrek obviously fits into anything that Bobby
wants to do here. He's clearly better than Stefan Diggs.
He's better than Nico Collins. Will have that conversation no time.
I get it this year. Nico the last time he

(14:36):
saw it was performing as the best wide receiver in
the league. I don't want to get caught in that
because we'll get sidetracked the other thing in the National
Football League today, Dennis Allen of the Saints gord that
we thought that he was the proverbial dead man walking
him is gone from New Orleans.

Speaker 7 (14:54):
Yeah, that was very simple. You lose to Bryce Young,
you get fired. Sorry that Carolina Panthers do win.

Speaker 6 (14:59):
A ain't Bryce Shaw didn't look so bad yes, you
should get Merk Saints two and seven. Their year is done,
all right, So that's pretty much what's going on around
the league. I guess we should say Sunday Night Football
Vikings twenty one to thirteen over the Saints. Sam Donald
was atrocious, but he did have three touchdowns. It did
enough for them to win in the second half twenty

(15:19):
one points after scoring none in the first half of
the Vikings Coats thirteen, and then you got Joe Flacco
has turned back into a pumpkin and they've benched Anthony Richardson.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
What do they do?

Speaker 6 (15:32):
There is an absolute conundrum up in Indianapolis. They have
to figure it out. The Titans are terrible, Coats are terrible,
Jags are terrible, The Texans are in the postseason, and
that's where we go now. I mean, the wheels would
just have to absolutely fall off for CJ not to
lead this group to at least a wildcard.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Ryan on.

Speaker 6 (15:51):
From there, it's about matchups. However, Gordy, I heard something,
and we'll get into the offensive line conversation. Do all
those things. I heard something over the weekend. I read
it first, and then I had to go back in
here to audio for myself. Things are bad at NRG,
and I understand and I respect Demiko for being optimist.

(16:12):
I like to think I'm that way myself. But behind
closed doors, he and his staff as well as that team,
and they will have had ten days to think about
how awful that was Thursday night in the Meadowlands. Domiko's
gotta be honest with himself and Casarrio and the staff
and the team. You got offensive line problems. You've got

(16:36):
wide receivers on your roster. John Mitchi and Xavier Hutchison
combined for zero catches other than Joe Mixon. It quarterback
is getting hit. He's skittish in the pocket. He's not
performing and seeing the field as cleanly as he did
a year ago. Defense is mostly flying around, but there's
Will Anderson Jr. With an ankle. I mean you can't cover.

(16:59):
I saw this status. The Texans allowed seventeen passing touchdowns
on them all of last year. I'm told they have
nineteen thus far through nine games. So your secondary is
not And when you got a pass rush that good,
you would think your cover units would be better. That
has not been the case. There are holes in this ship, Gordy,

(17:21):
A lot of places. I'm not worried about Joe Mixon,
Kymi fair Bear now is missing chip shot field goals
two that he missed the last time we saw the
Texans play.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
It's just this is not good.

Speaker 6 (17:35):
Now we'll see do they get Nico back, does Jimmy
Ward come back? Does it ease dal Shire come back?
So you could get some relief there? S all right,
Let's start with the question I asked before we go
to CJ based on the last time you saw the Texans, Gordon,
are they performing?

Speaker 1 (17:57):
That's not what I want to say.

Speaker 6 (17:58):
Are the goals that you have for then wherever you
had them to start the year, is that still the
obtainable or have you taken a foot off the Texans
bandwagon at the moment.

Speaker 7 (18:12):
Yeah, I mean it's look, there's still one of the
best teams in the AFC. You're leading your division Colts.
Did you favor last night and lost to the Vikings?
So yeah, it's everything you want is still how to you,
it's just you know a little bit of a sour
taste in your mouth right now and how the team

(18:32):
has looked. I mean you've lost too your last three.
The one win against the Colts was by three. So yeah,
it's you're just in a spot right now where it
doesn't feel good right now. But big big picture, you're
still six and three, still one of the best records.
But the sext game is gonna be This is gonna

(18:53):
be a tough one because you lose this one, you're
six and four and you gotta go to Dallas.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
You'll hope you win that one.

Speaker 7 (18:59):
They get a little a breather with Tennessee Jacksonville well,
and then by the time we get to Miami, I mean,
they don't look great right now. We'll see if two
is even still playing at that point, and then you
get your toughest stretch of the year with those the
Kansas City Baltimore games. So I mean point being, you
just want to kind of you still want to. You
want to keep your head around three to four games,
about five hundred is where you want to be.

Speaker 6 (19:22):
Uh seven one three, two, one two five seven ninety
Are the Texans? Are the goals? I know what the
team looks like. Are the goals that you individually had
for this team when the season set out still achievable
for me?

Speaker 1 (19:41):
No, they aren't.

Speaker 7 (19:43):
Not.

Speaker 6 (19:43):
Right now, I'll see what magic Casario works by the
trade deadline. Namor at three pm Local time. I had
this team in the Super Bowl. Uh, did I have
a Super Bowl? I know I had them inn AFC
Title Game. No, I had this team lose into Kansas
City in the AFC Title Game. Do I have the
Texans in the AFC Title Game?

Speaker 1 (20:00):
No?

Speaker 6 (20:02):
If Nico is fully healthy and continues the pace he
was on the first X amount of games that we
saw him this year. The way this line is protecting,
how the quarterback is not singing the field, Bobby Sloyd
can't get his head out of his ass. Whatever the
offensive line coach is or is not doing. The way

(20:24):
this team is giving up every time a running back
faces this team is four or five six yards of
carry and they still give up big plays in the
passing game. No, this is not a team that deserves
to play right now in the NC Championship Game.

Speaker 8 (20:41):
No.

Speaker 6 (20:43):
Do I appreciate again guys like Joe Mixon. I saw
what Tank Dale did last week on Thursday Night. There
are guys out there that played some good ball. Will
Anderson Jr. I've seen more from guys like Tim Suttle.
The Nico Excuse me, the Neil Hunter. I'm seeing guys
playing some good balls. But overall, Larry mc tunsel's past

(21:05):
grades or pro football focused grades continue to be all
right now. The rest of alls four, including Shaq Mason,
who will talk about in a little bit, and including
Titus Howard, the rest of US four not named Tunzel
and tonsl keeps getting his penalties.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
They should be embarrassed. Gordon.

Speaker 6 (21:24):
Uh, just a quick litmus test. How many teams above
five hundred through nine weeks have the Texans beaten? I
see one, Buffalo, They've beaten one team above five hundred,
Bears at four and four.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
Well, but that's I mean, you can't do anything about
the records of the team. Oh no, no, yeah, yeah you can't. Yeah,
you can't.

Speaker 6 (21:48):
In other words, I can use how other teams are
performing versus the rest of the league to get a
gauge on who is my team really? And the Houston
Texans have beaten one with a winning record. The Colts
are four and five, the Jets where they lost that game?

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Who else?

Speaker 6 (22:06):
Jacksonville's two to seven. I mean, just go down this list.
I mean, I just that. So what's the argument is
that you have? I mean, the argument is I don't
believe this team is as good as I thought they
would be.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
Now, do I have them in the postseason? Yes? Can
they win a game in the postseason? Yes?

Speaker 6 (22:26):
Could they win two games in the postseason yes? Can
this team win three games in the postseason as currently constructed?

Speaker 1 (22:34):
No?

Speaker 7 (22:34):
Well, the good news is it's November fourth, in the
postseason doesn't start today, which.

Speaker 6 (22:39):
Gives us more time to have some radio on the
other side, the CJ. Stroud piece and no let me
take some fall calls, Jay Money, you'll be next up
on the other side the CJ. Stroud audio and Pro
Football Talk, and Mike Floyo wrote about this as well.
Because the team knows they have some issues on the
interior of it. And I'm not talking about the interior
of the line played specifically. I'm saying, or exclusively, there's

(23:04):
something going on over there in the building, and Stroud
told us about it. I'll tell you about it on
the other side. Wherever you are in the city, regardless
if you're thinking about new construction from a residential or
commercial standpoint, or maybe you want to do a little
bit of a remodel, I suggest none other in this

Speaker 6 (24:42):
I feel your te Scott. We're half an hour into
a Monday Week nine has one more game to go
in the National Football League, which is where the conversation stands.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
Now.

Speaker 6 (24:51):
We will hear from CJ. Stroud here momentarily something he
said Thursday after that cataclysmic, anti climactic bleep show that
they put on Amazon Prime, one of three consecutive nationally
televised game. Let me tell you something, if the Texans
want to be on national TV next year, go out

(25:12):
there and get your.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
Ass with versus Detroit on Sunda night.

Speaker 6 (25:14):
Football people will They will yank your ass off of
this national stage. Last year doesn't mean a damn thing.
They better go get this bleak fixed. And I'm talking
about all of them, Domico, CJ. Cassario, Chris Straussa, Bobby Sloyd,
Calin Hannah, you run it, it's yours, it's your company.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
Figure it out. Ridiculous.

Speaker 6 (25:38):
So before I get on the tirade there and I
hear something from CJ that's got me all up in
my fields. Go ahead, let's go to the phone lines.
Let's walcome in a friend of the station, friend of
the show, Jay Money next up on a Monday.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
What's up?

Speaker 5 (25:51):
What's up? Saying?

Speaker 9 (25:52):
And it's been a while, but look here, I got
issues with the Texans and the Cowboys. With the Texans
I don't understand and as well as the Cowboys with
this all these illegal procedure of penalties where they forget
the snap count and everything. Is their difference at times
when it comes to the snap count or is it

(26:15):
the same or is it the cadence?

Speaker 1 (26:17):
You know?

Speaker 9 (26:17):
Is it something too why there's so many penalties being
committed on the offensive line or is it that they're
not concentrating or is it different? And I don't know
where which direction these cowboys are headed, but what direction
is at the bottom. And the lame can definitely be

(26:39):
placed on solely on Jerry's shoulder. And you know what,
I hope they keep losing.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
You stuck.

Speaker 9 (26:45):
Now, you got Dak hurt and c d hurt. Your
offense is shot and your defenses protect So sit back,
let me get your take. See what you say y'all.

Speaker 6 (26:57):
Have today, do the same appreciate our guy, j Money.
Let's go Cowboys first. It's real simple. They aren't good.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Now.

Speaker 6 (27:04):
They have some injuries, Michael Parsons, you know coming into
the game. Now, Dak's got the handstring, CD's got the shoulder, Ezekiel,
Elliott Gordy Apparently he can't get to work on time,
and so he didn't even make the trip or playing
the game. Where were they? Oh, they were in Atlanta. Yeah,
he didn't even make the trip to Atlanta. It's just
a mess. Yes, Jerry, I just called out to McNair family.

(27:27):
I got to call out to Jones family. Hey, it's
on you get it fixed. You're tied to Dak. He's
not going anywhere. You're tied to CD. He's not going anywhere.
They've got cap penl They've got cap calsulties everywhere. Like
it's a problem in now. It's not gonna happen this year.
Could a coaching change, Hope, a coaching chain is going
to have to happen. Mike McCarthy is not taking them

(27:48):
where they want to go. It will help, yes, it
will help. All right, let me play this from CJ.
Because I'm looking at the clock. Gary, I'll try and
grab you if I can here just a little bit.
I heard this from CJ after the game Thursday. Go
you and I came on the air Friday and we
lit them up. They deserve to be lit up. That
was atrocious, and I'm it's pissed off now as I

(28:08):
was then, the more I think about it, embarrassing the
city like that, We throwing up h's all over the place.
We got everybody flying here on the weekend trying to
see what the hell going on?

Speaker 1 (28:17):
The our meter up all up and.

Speaker 6 (28:20):
Down west him and people talking about now they going
to camp? Should they pull up at Joey uptown? All
the spots, and we got a football team embarrassing us
like this, with the talent to be better than this.
So we all said, what is going on? It can't
just be Somebody asked me on social over the weekend,
Gordon staying, is it just the offensive line? Is it coaching?

(28:40):
Is it adjustments or lack of adjustments?

Speaker 1 (28:42):
I say this, all of it.

Speaker 6 (28:45):
It's everything is on the table for where we can
place the brand here other than our guy mad Man mixing.
We are not gonna say anything negative by Joe Mixon.
But CJ said this after the game, and I missed
it the first time. Going down, I want you to
react to this.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
Let me get this, I would say, you know, he's
gonna honestly just play football, better execute better, stop pointed
here and realize, you know, at the end of the day,
like this is not winning football, and we can't keep
squeezing our way by every game.

Speaker 6 (29:17):
Pointing the finger. Uh, let me read the quote, and
he did. Uh let me read it because this this
made pro football talk, and I missed it. I had
to go back and look at it. CJ says, and
I'm gonna get down there. I would excuse me. I
would say, we just gotta honestly play football, better execute better,
stop pointing fingers and realize that at the end of

(29:41):
the day, this is not winning football. He didn't say
we shouldn't start pointing fingers. He said we have to
stop pointing fingers. Something is going on over there in
the building. And so disappointment is birth by expectation. And
Demiko tried to tell them last yearn't got nothing to

(30:02):
do with this year. And you add all the names
that we were all excited and I still am excited,
but they better get some stuff corrected, or this thing
is going to torpedo into more embarrassment.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
Gordon.

Speaker 6 (30:16):
We hadn't even got the Kansas City in Baltimore yet.
This is the New York Jets we're talking about here.
Something is going on over there. Something else jumped out
to me. Definitely a wake up call for us what
he said. I believe this isn't the end, but it's

(30:36):
definitely a great wake up call for us to tighten
up the ship. Something's going on, Gordion. There was something
else in there that I saw. We can't keep squeezing
our way by every game. CJ knows we are not performing.
You can't keep doing this. Oh, Demiko won another close game, Gordy.

(31:00):
When you hit a quarterback, say that a quarterback that
is not known for causing or creating unnecessary headlines from
a playing standpoint, whether he's leaving the Mini Make Park
with a baddie or not. We ain't got to do
it that right now. Does this surprise you to hear
CJ be disappoignant? This direct is candid in what he's

(31:20):
saying here.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
He's a leader. Leaders, leaders, scouts say what needs to
be saying.

Speaker 6 (31:23):
I'm not mad that he said Are you surprised that
he said it?

Speaker 7 (31:27):
No, I mean it's look, you've lost two out of three,
you lose this one someday. I mean, then you're really
starting to look back and go, you're six and four,
you've lost three or last four. A lot of your
wins have been by you know, one score or less.
I think you start you really start to look at
it and say, did this team overachieve last year? And

(31:50):
did we maybe have two high expectations for this That's
a fair question asked. No question about that. That is
a fair question asked. And listen, did they overchieve last year?
Of course they did. Look at that offensive line they
were winning games with last year. Yeah, I saw it
was funny.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
I got alert.

Speaker 7 (32:05):
It said, uh see, uh it was on the screen,
bout of the screen yesterday it said Seahawks George Fan
I expected to return.

Speaker 5 (32:13):
Though.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
I was like, man, give me George Fan, give me.

Speaker 6 (32:16):
Some of these guys, saying, oh, if George Fann was
on this team, if George Fann was on this roster
right now, Titus how was asked, will be a guard?

Speaker 1 (32:26):
I bet you that? Ye? I bet you.

Speaker 6 (32:28):
In so then whether like whether George Fan is here
or not you drafted Blake Fisher in the second round, right,
it doesn't matter. If Titus is a good left guard,
he's better than Kenyon Green.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
And it is official.

Speaker 6 (32:41):
Kenyon Green is headed to the ir The team has
not sent that out that I have seen, but all
reports are Kenyon Green separated shoulder, He's headed to the iyard.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Done for the year.

Speaker 6 (32:50):
And over the weekend, his dad, like they tweet that
said the coaching Chris Strass of the offensive line coach
wasn't doing his damn job up to suitable level. Kenyon
Green's dad appears to agree with that based on his
social media activity.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
So Kenyon Green is out.

Speaker 6 (33:08):
Jared Patterson has not been promoted out of the concussion protocol.

Speaker 7 (33:13):
Can you imagine, though, another world where like your parents
get involved in your jumpman?

Speaker 6 (33:20):
I think about that all the time when I see
guys wives like the mother their children commenting on football
matters publicly and like tagging the team and stuff like
what are we doing now? It's a all right? Dimiko
is going to address the public, addressing the media rather
at two o'clock, So I imagine that Matt Thomas Show
will have some of that for you. Leading into the
A team at three. I will likely be with the

(33:43):
A team this afternoon at five, reacting to some of
the things we heard from Dimiko today as they get
back into a regular routine with the Lions coming to
town on Sunday. All right, I see you guys on
the line, Frank Garyan Spring, somebody else? Who's that trying
to call? In two two five seven ninety. I will
politely ask if Ben do Bos will start the eleven

(34:05):
o'clock out with us.

Speaker 1 (34:06):
Uh, we'll see what we got here.

Speaker 6 (34:07):
I'll try and grab those calls, and then We'll focus
a little bit of attention on the rockets, and then we're
on Breagnant watch. We got to stay downtown and go
from Toyota Center over the minute, May Park General Management
Gordon what is? Dana Brown got up his leave more
to come your home in Houston Sports KB and me
to the next.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
To the dirt world.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
This is next up everything I wanted to say with
Stan Norfleet and Chris Gordy on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (34:34):
All right, man, let's get ready to wrap up our
one here on Sports SOX seven ninety at home for
Houston Sports Talking Texans. Demko Ryan's team quietly mostly they
quietly enjoyed three off days, coming off for whatever that
was on Thursday night, and they let the rest of
the league take the spotlight. One more game to go

(34:57):
Monday night should be a decent matchup. We got a
banged up Buccaneers team, but decent team versus Kansas City
in Arrowhead. And there are a couple of things, a
couple of thoughts I have as we go to the
phone lines, I'll grab Frank, Gary and Perry and Cyprus. Yes,

(35:18):
after Thursday night, my expectations in what this team can
achieve this year has changed. I do not believe this
is a team that can represent the AFC in the
Super Bowl. I do not believe this is a team
that can make an AFC Championship game. Let me rephrase,
will can sure God can do anything? Will No not?

(35:39):
In my opinion, not right now. We'll see what Cassario
and Dimiko do at the deadline. Secondly, C J. Stroud
said we gotta stop point fingers. We gotta play better football.
Stop pointing fingers. I quoting him. He said that Thursday
after the game, there's a blame game going on in there.

(36:02):
Somebody and some of this can be healthy, whole dudes, accountable.
I'm glad I get to see this or hear this
from the quarterback. Finally, somebody over there is saying everything
ain't just gonna magically get better. Texans one of the
league leaders in penalties, league leaders in sacks, league leader
in quarterback hits, pressures, league leader in tackles for losses allowed,

(36:25):
league leader among the league leaders. Are certainly more passing
touchdowns allowed this year than all of last year.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Just Gary spring Man, what you.

Speaker 8 (36:38):
Got hey, let me take, Let me take, y'll speaker.

Speaker 6 (36:42):
Okay, I didn't know we were homeboys, but okay, yeah man,
I'm with you.

Speaker 8 (36:47):
Yeah, hey, listen. My take on all this, My expectations
going into the season was to get to hopefully and
expect to get to the championship series against the Chiefs
and uh and more likely not win it because the
Chiefs are Chiefs pretty but to give to that, yeah,

(37:07):
just to get to that point at least this year
and then work on it go the next step next year.
But let me let me tell you what I see
on the Texans and and I'm old school, I'm all
about the eye test. What I see what when I
see him playing everything the analytics. I hated school, so
I don't want to go back to school and check analytics.
I listen to you guys on analytics and I really
like him, but I don't I don't want to study him.

(37:29):
But here's what I see. I see that the Texans
have become an all passing team. And that's what the
defensive coordinators have. They see that chart now, and that's
what they're all going to do as of right now.

Speaker 5 (37:43):
With C. J.

Speaker 8 (37:44):
Stroud getting hit that much all of a sudden, I see,
uh uh, who was the first quarterback the first year
they were here. They got did so many times. Yeah,
I see him, and you can see it in his
he's not as sure and he's not as confident back
there because he's on that Russia is right on top
of him. So you can't keep throwing the ball that much.

Speaker 1 (38:01):
We're gonna kill that. That guy's gonna get killed.

Speaker 8 (38:04):
And so all teams are are are loading up for the.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
For the uh the for the blitz.

Speaker 8 (38:09):
So we've got to change it. We've got to change
it and make it to where we're gonna run the
ball a little bit.

Speaker 1 (38:14):
We've got a good running game.

Speaker 8 (38:15):
Quit throwing it so much and run it and when
you and when you throw it, you've got to move
that pocket. He won't get hit his hard when he's scrambling.
So you've got to run first now because we've got
a good running back, and throw a second. If you
keep going with the pass, you're gonna hurt. This guy
is not gonna last. And then with the backup quarterback,
you're out for the season. So please please change it.

Speaker 6 (38:37):
All right, my man, Garyan Spring, thank you so much
for chiming in there. Let's go to the north side.

Speaker 10 (38:41):
Frank, what's going on?

Speaker 3 (38:43):
My man?

Speaker 10 (38:46):
I know you couldn't sleep good over the last night
coming in about it.

Speaker 1 (38:54):
Yep.

Speaker 10 (38:55):
Well, we tried to tell him from the beginning, like
the Miko said, this ain't last year, you know what
I mean?

Speaker 5 (39:04):
He did, he told him that.

Speaker 10 (39:06):
Yeah, but Dalan, some of those newspaper clippers, Facebook clippers
is gone to some of these guys here. And in
the first place, the guy Kimmy Green that they drafted
Kenyan Green, Yes, yeah, is he that's the starter that's
not the other green guy?

Speaker 5 (39:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (39:26):
Ken Young Green, the first round pick a couple of
years ago out of A and m he's the starter
at left guard. He's now going on injury reserve for
the year, so he's done. Last year they traded with
the Arizona Cardoners no Pittsburgh Steelers to go get ken
Drick Green, and so he is the backup left guard.
Played all right early, had some success that Joe makes

(39:48):
a touchdown drive and then when you look at his
advast numbers, he didn't play well to end the game either.

Speaker 10 (39:54):
Well, who's the backup over there now? I mean, who's
the guy gonna be starting now?

Speaker 6 (39:58):
I appreciate you asking that. And left guard they're faced
with something like Kendrick Green. Uh, if Jared Patterson is
off concussion protocol? Are they gonna move tightest back over there,
which it doesn't look like they want to do. More
than likely they're gonna go have to trade for somebody
by tomorrow's deadline.

Speaker 10 (40:16):
You really gonna be losing asleep after Sunday. I mean,
when they play.

Speaker 1 (40:23):
Sunday night football, the Detroit Lions will.

Speaker 10 (40:25):
Be here because when I've seen the truck play yesterday,
they look damn good.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
They gonna get smoked, no.

Speaker 6 (40:34):
Question about it. Frank, We're a little bit up against it. Brother,
I'm gonna try and squeeze in one more. I know
they're gonna tell me don't do that. But Perry and
Cyprus has been holding for a while. Period.

Speaker 1 (40:41):
You got like thirty seconds? What you got?

Speaker 11 (40:44):
Oh man, you always get me the last. But look here, man,
because I ain't what I got to say. If I
were CJ, when my contract is up, I would move
on because they year two. Yeah, well well he got
he got three more years staying. And look good way
what they've been doing over there, you can't tell me.
I would look what Jayden's doing over in Washington, d C.

(41:08):
And well, look man, when is the last time this
city stand? I know y'all all moved here? I was
born and raged. When is the last time the city
been to an ALC championship? And what they got over
there is because of number seven. And if tomorrow they
don't do anything with that offensive line, I don't care
if they have to take a cap here. They're not
gonna beat Detroit, They're not gonna beat Baltimore, and they're

(41:30):
not shown not gonna beat Kansas City.

Speaker 9 (41:32):
That's a fact.

Speaker 5 (41:33):
I can guarantee you that I agree with you.

Speaker 11 (41:36):
Well, they ain't gonna be even if they're improved, saying
they not gonna be no Detroit. Man, keep it real, man, keep.

Speaker 1 (41:41):
It real about that. Now you're talking about it.

Speaker 11 (41:44):
I hate but hey, I'll call you back when after
Sundays any I'll call you.

Speaker 1 (41:50):
Perry. Cypers were up against them, brother, I appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (41:52):
God if people trying to put a score on said
it's the Texas, We're gonna win or not. Now I
do agree they're not beating Detroit and Kansas City and Baltimore.
If they just stand pat with what they're currently doing.
We'll talk about what Casario could and should do. Any
eleven o'clock hour, we got to talk some rockets. On

Speaker 5 (43:25):
Stop, next next stop.

Speaker 1 (43:27):
This team wants to be next.

Speaker 4 (43:30):
This is next Up with stad Norfleeten, Chris Gordy.

Speaker 5 (43:34):
Let's see what's next, next next.

Speaker 1 (43:38):
Man, Let's get to the business.

Speaker 6 (43:40):
Kicking off second half of the show live from the
Sports Talk seven ninety studios here in the Gallery area

new to the show or returning, Welcome, We'll appreciate you

hour of the show, go to Sports seven ninety dot
com when utilize the heart.

Speaker 1 (44:00):
Radio app get caught up to speed.

Speaker 6 (44:02):
That'll be posted shortly after noontime, saying Northfleet me, Chris Gordie,
him Connordy McGovern in his perch on the other side
of the glass there, and let's pivot off of Texans,
a lot of NFL and our one. I want to
pivot just a little bit and get into some astros news.
We'll talk Texas as well. Excuse me Rockets as well.

(44:22):
Ben Dubo's our Rockets analyst was gracious enough to move
his time as I get my calendar recalibrated here and
get back on track. It's a big day from a
time standpoint, time sensitivity. Nick Caseario must decide how much
he's going to improve this roster by three pm local

(44:42):
time tomorrow. That's over then RG Gordon downtown at Mini
Ma Park. There are other discussions happening as Alex Bregman
third basement for the stroj y'all know Alex. He's been
around here for a while. Alex Bregman, who was in
the news on Sunday. Why the MLB chose buried his
news during NFL Sunday is beyond me.

Speaker 7 (45:04):
But all these awards are given out like weeks after
the season ended.

Speaker 1 (45:08):
It's silly.

Speaker 6 (45:09):
Alex Bregman yesterday is awarded they Gold Glove as a
third baseman, the second third baseman from an Astro standpoint
to win a Gold Glove, joining Doug Raider, who won
five of them between seventy and seventy four. Bregman led
al third basement excuse me in games one hundred and
forty two, fielding percentage point nine to seven, two assists

(45:33):
two forty two, so on and so forth. Bregman got
it done. Becomes a sixteenth player in Astro's history to
receive a Gold Glove award last year, most recently Mauricio Dubon.

Speaker 1 (45:44):
So there's Bregman today.

Speaker 6 (45:46):
Gordon by four o'clock local time, general manager Dana Brown
must determine if he is going to in this exclusive
five day window at the conclusion of the World Series
that the CBA affords teams to negotiate with their own
potential free agents to attempt to get a deal done.

(46:06):
I Gordy for one. Then I come to you here
in a second. I think Dana Brown should do everything
within his power to get a deal done to prevent
Scott Boris and Alex Bregman from fielding offers from other teams.
Make it attractive enough, and if Alex wants to be here,
which it feels like he does, if the money is right,
sign him the man. Now, not that he needed this

(46:29):
to add this to his resume. The man has got
a gold glove this year for you and his bat,
by the way, with a bum elbow, his bat saved
their ass a whole bunch of times when dudes were
in and out of the lineup. So with that, Gordy,
I come to you. There's some other news involved in
the Astros, but we'll start there. Get Alex an offer
today that he will sign.

Speaker 7 (46:51):
There's a few things to know here because baseball is
just still it operates a little bit differently than other sports.

Speaker 6 (46:57):
I'm talking about the Baseball CBA when I'm in a comments.
Today is a deadline.

Speaker 7 (47:03):
One at four o'clock today, Central free agency starts. So
you have until that point to your point to make
a have an exclusive negotiation with with your client. The
interesting thing is. You've had that for several years now.
The problem is when the news came out with Alex
Berna hired Scott Boris. When you hire Scott Boris, you

(47:24):
go to free agency. Rarely ever does a guy sign
Scott Boris and go all right, let's get a deal
done a yearhead of time like that just doesn't happen.
You signed Scott Boris to say we're going to free
agency and we're gonna go get to go to the
highest bidder. Now, the other side of today today is
also the deadline to make a qualifying offer. The qualifying
offer is almost like the franchise tagging football. It's a

(47:46):
one year, twenty one million dollars ado. I think it's
up to now and it's basically no one takes the
qualifying offer, like rarely ever. The only one I can
remember recent years that Dastro's had a guy take was
coolby Rasmus coming off that twenty fifteen season where he
was awesome, hit all the home runs and they won
the you know, they went to.

Speaker 1 (48:05):
The wild Card Series the next year.

Speaker 7 (48:08):
Rasmus came back on the qualifying deal because he didn't
think he was gonna get any.

Speaker 1 (48:11):
Better offers elsewhere, and for the Astros.

Speaker 7 (48:13):
It was like, we don't want to give him a
long term, but we bring it back on a one
year deal. And Rasmus ended up cratering the next year.
His numbers were terrible, and it kind of it worked
out for him, and it kind of worked out for
the Astros that they didn't give him a long term
deal and all that.

Speaker 1 (48:27):
But just take a look through the last couple of years.

Speaker 7 (48:29):
Most guys do not, you know, just even last year
show Hey Otani got the qualifying offer from the Angels,
he rejected it. Josh Hader got a qualifying offer from
the Padres, he rejected it. You do that because you
you're gonna get more money in free agency. On the
flip side, MLB reward you with a compensatory draft pick
if that guy leaves in free agency. So when you
hear later today the Astros have extended a qualifying offer

(48:52):
to Bregman, that doesn't mean they've extended a two hundred
million dollar, seven year deal. It just means they're doing
their due diligence that they get the competitory pick in
case he leaves. Now, that doesn't mean they're still not
going to continue to talk and have negotiations. But again,
the minute he hired Scott Boris, you knew what was coming.
They're going to free agency. No matter what, the Astros

(49:13):
could have had an amazing deal on the table the
last six months. Scott Boris, the way he operates, we
don't do that. Let we go to the market. We
let the market dictate. Then we'll come back to you.
We'll circle back around once the biggest deal is given
to us, and we'll see if you guys want to
match it.

Speaker 6 (49:30):
Boris works for Alex Bregman. Alex Bregman is not a
young guy. Alex Bregman has made a hundred million. If
Alex Bregman wants to be in Houston, Scott Boris. In
other words, Alex Brigman can tell Boris, I appreciate the reputation.

Speaker 1 (49:43):
I know.

Speaker 6 (49:43):
You go get guys the most money. Go get me
the most money that Houston has to offer. If the
deal is right, and that happens before anybody else, and
then again the window opens today, then get it done.

Speaker 1 (49:56):
But I think if that's the case, he would have
already done it. But we don't know. Maybe the team
hadn't made that all.

Speaker 6 (50:00):
Maybe that is an ongoing conversation, and maybe now that right,
deadlines get deals done. They're looking at a real deadline
because the Astros know if Alex Bregman is made available
to the rest of the league. There are several teams.
I'm looking at an article here in the Athletic Yankees
being one of them. There are several teams. Now the

(50:20):
Yankees just resigned. Who they just resigned. They brought back
to somebody judge. They paid a ton to They have
to pay Ron. So no, I'm tomorrow. Typically at the
third I forget the name.

Speaker 1 (50:29):
Here, garre Cole.

Speaker 7 (50:30):
You know that they add another but it's it's all
a precursor to add one more year onto his deal
at another so you know, millions and millions of dollars.

Speaker 6 (50:40):
My point is this, I believe Alex wants to be
here for the right number. I'm talking to Jim Crane,
dan'ta Brown, Reggie Jackson, all the folks over there get
Alex money that makes that you can stomach. It may
not be a deal that you win and you can
brag about, but it may be a deal that you
can stomach. Give Alex a fair deal and then keep

(51:01):
Breggy here It's not that hard the man, and not
just because he want to go Glover, but everybody inside
the building, inside the clubhouse is telling you this is
what he means to us. Jose L Tuvey was a
stand for Bregman, not once, but twice. Here was Dana
Brown when asked, this was at the end of the
year or towards the end of the year, about where

(51:23):
the contract negotiation is and what Alex Bregman means to
the organization.

Speaker 3 (51:27):
Yeah, I mean, of course, you know, we're gonna have
some conversations with you know, Bregman in terms of coming back.
I mean, he's done an outstanding job here. He's been
a pillar and in this organization and a big part
of winning. And as I mentioned earlier, we will not
take anything off the table in terms of signing free

(51:50):
agents or trades to upgrade the club. And so the
main focus would be let's get back to the postseason.

Speaker 1 (51:58):
Let's do what we need to.

Speaker 3 (51:59):
Do to get back, and we'll try to fill whatever
holes that we have, all.

Speaker 6 (52:04):
Right, Dana Brown in a separate cut, Gordy, Dana Brown,
people keep asking you about what you're gonna do with Bregman.

Speaker 3 (52:11):
Yeah, I mean the weight that is carried is just
Bregman's performance and what he's done here in this organization.
He's been a really good player, and he's been outstanding
in terms of helping his team play a lot of
postseason games, and he's posted you know, each and every year,
and so that weighs, you know, heavily. But ultimately we

(52:33):
will have some discussion with discussions with Bors and also Bregman,
and so we've had some small talk, but ultimately we
will have some discussions.

Speaker 1 (52:44):
We know what he means to this organization.

Speaker 6 (52:46):
All right, a lot of talking. We know what you mean.
Put your money up. That's where we are with this, Gordy.
The last time we left off with this conversation, it
sounded as if you were okay with life after Bregman
because you believe the money will be what he will
be offered elsewhere.

Speaker 7 (53:01):
And you're focusing on gold gloves. You're focusing on dude,
you're focusing on all the positive positive. We have to
also acknowledge negatives. Right, That's what a good GM does.
He looks at the good and the bad, and here's
the bad. Does the good outwaight to bed? We're bringing
it's it depends on how you look at it. Class
half full, glassf empty. I think you can look at
it both ways. But here's the bad. Alex Burgan's about

(53:21):
to turn thirty one years old. He just had his
worst season ever in on base percentage. That's been one
of his big pluses. Is a guy who works a
ton of walks. He went from stand from ninety two
walks last year to forty.

Speaker 1 (53:36):
Four this year.

Speaker 7 (53:38):
The plate discipline was not there. Now, he did pick
up the average a little bit. It was poor for
majority of the season, picked it up at the end
of finish at two sixty.

Speaker 1 (53:47):
That's fine, It's not great. Plate discipline was off for
the whole team.

Speaker 7 (53:50):
Okay, but you're asking me to make you one of
the highest paid players. You have to lead by example
and be one of the leading by example. Yes, he's
one of your best leaders in every way on this
sage just ad one of his worst on base percent Literally.

Speaker 1 (54:03):
Is one of your best leaders in every way.

Speaker 7 (54:06):
That's hogwashed, Like I can't saying that the business world,
I have to talk number players are telling you this
is what means. And at the end of the day,
I need guys who are going to hit and if
you think this guy's gonna turn thirty one years old
and get better and stay healthy. I just you've got
to consider all the good and the bad.

Speaker 6 (54:26):
If you sign Alex Bregman to a five, six or
seven year deal and you get another World Series with
him on the hot corner, that is worth every penny
it takes because you get everything else at the end
of the deal. You deal with it the way every
other team does. I newsflash, al Tuva ain't gonna be
great at the end of this deal, nor has any
other great player. The end of the deal, you reward

(54:48):
them for what they have meant to your organization. In
those final seasons you try and mitigate and minimize that damage. Good,
but I'm trying to get another World Series. Good jams don't.
Nobody has locked themselves in. Nobody has offered a better solution, nobody.
Nobody has given me a single better solution that the
Astros currently have that's going to be as good as

(55:09):
bregmant or better.

Speaker 7 (55:10):
But that doesn't mean you just give a blank check.
I didn't say cripple. I didn't say anything.

Speaker 6 (55:15):
Organization, you looking at the worst case scenario because you
got to consider it. No I have to consider oneven
years for bregmant if he's didn't say seven, interiorating at
thirty one in.

Speaker 1 (55:26):
Say seven years, I said, make the money makes sense.

Speaker 7 (55:29):
Now on the money will only make sense if they
accept the years to take the way out.

Speaker 6 (55:34):
A guy that has been GM in the MLB, he
knows more than baseball than you and myself combined. Here's
what Jim Bowden had to say. Yeah, God, you don't
know that much.

Speaker 1 (55:43):
But he's GM.

Speaker 6 (55:46):
He's at least he's at least he was not stupid.
He's at least had a job. You haven't had a job,
and I haven't had the job. Here's what Jim Bowden
of the Athletics says. He anticipates Alex Bregman returns to
the Astros seven years, one eighty five, five gets it done.
So so it's more than Chapman and less endeavors. And
I'd say he gets that deal done for sure, breaking

(56:06):
and signs that deal today, seven years, one eighty five.
He's signing that six years in one. They're not going
seven six years.

Speaker 1 (56:15):
In one something.

Speaker 7 (56:15):
He gets it done, he'll be thirty eight years old,
broken down, missing half the seasons with every injury in
the book.

Speaker 6 (56:24):
It should also be noted, as we go to break
comeback with Talks and Rockets, Hunter Brown has quietly hired
Scott Boris in recent days, well precursor their what we
can expect. All right, we're way over, let's come back.
Ben dou Bos is gonna join us. Let's peek in
on what the Rockets had going on over the weekend.
The Knicks in town tonight, that game over at the
Toyota Center, your home of Rockets basketball, KB and Me, next.

Speaker 4 (56:49):
Stop and back up now down door, Fleet and Chris
Gordy on's next up on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (57:00):
All right, here we go Sports Talk seven ninety, Gordon
and I doing the Fleet and Gordon thing during the break.

Speaker 1 (57:04):
For now, let's go to the guest line and do
that thing.

Speaker 6 (57:07):
Rockets, I thought they had it on Saturday night. They
took it to overtime down thirty one versus the Golden
State Warriors without Klay Thompson. Still looks weird, but they
found a way to rally to help us success. Where
the Rockets are back in action tonight, out of Rockets,
some weird ass Start time seven forty five at the

(57:27):
Toyota Center to night. I don't know what the Semn
forty five local time is. Nonetheless, here the Knicks Jalen
Bryn saying who they have now, They've got Karl Anthony Towns.
Of course, the Rockets, led by Jalen Green to assist
us with previewing not only tonight's matchup, but recapping what
we may have missed over the weekend. Ben Dubo's Rockets

(57:48):
analysts for us here at seven ninety, editor of USA
Today's Rockets Wire, and a contributor to the Logger Line
podcast here on Sports seven ninety dot com. Being good
morning to you, hope you will rested. Brother headed over
to a seven forty five tip nix in town.

Speaker 1 (58:04):
Let's start there. Oh you know what, Let's not start there.
I'll come back to that.

Speaker 6 (58:07):
Over the weekend I mentioned the Golden State down thirty one.
How'd they get back into it Korea night Foratari.

Speaker 5 (58:16):
Yeah, Tarry Ethan was a big story. His energy just
almost single handedly got the Rockets back in that game
in the second half, especially when you pair him with
a Vin Thompson. That duo gets some turnovers that you
wouldn't believe. At times, it looked like a high school
game the way they would just press the Warriors at
half court, and it felt like one turnover returned into two,

(58:36):
two turned into three, and that thing snowballs. Unfortunately, the
reason why you don't see too many thirty plus point
comeback what often happens is that even if you do
climb the mountain and get all the way back, you
use up so much energy in doing so that at
some point you run out of gas. And that's what
happened in overtime. They use so much energy to come
back from down thirty one that by the time they

(58:56):
sort of caught their breath that three through and a
half in a break between fourth quarter in overtime, they
just never looked right in ot They shot just one
to twelve, but it felt like they had to use
up all their legs to get back in the game.
So kudos to Tory Easton and Men Thompson. Both played
fabulous off the bench got the Rockets back in it.
But uh, yeah, you can't start down thirty against a

(59:17):
good team and expect to win the game.

Speaker 1 (59:19):
Yeah, that's it's so weird.

Speaker 7 (59:20):
I mean, we've become conditioned to know the Golden State Warriors. Oh,
if they don't have Steph and they don't have Clay
and they don't have this guy, they're not any good.
It's like Steve Kurr's pretty damn good coach. They just
I don't know, they just win. It sucks like Buddy
Heal and just start scoring.

Speaker 5 (59:36):
Yeah, And I will say that Buddy Heel feels like
having Klay Thompson. Again, I may Udoka made that comparison
before the game, and I think he's spot on. So
even if they don't have Clay and name, it feels
like when you see Buddy Hill go out there and
drop in six or seven threes whatever it was. And
I think the Warriors started nine of eleven from three.
I really think the Rockets aren't that concerned about the

(59:56):
defensive end. I'm sure may Udoka in the film room
will point out that, yeah, they had lasted in rotation.
Their effort could be better, but look, you shouldn't shoot
nine of eleven on three that shoot around, and they
did it to start that game. So in terms of
how they fell down by thirty plus points, I think
the defense you just sort of have to tip your
cap to the Warriors and bide your time until they
eventually missed some shots, which they did in the second half.

(01:00:18):
Better energy from Charnie Easton, Than and Thompson certainly contributed
to that. I think the bigger story is offensively, guys
like Alper and Shanoon Fred than Fleet have not got
going yet this season. That's where I think the Rockets
really got off to a bad start on Saturday, down
seventy one to forty three and a half. And that's
what they got to try and fix as they get
ready for a good next team tonight.

Speaker 6 (01:00:38):
Yeah, I'm looking at this thing, gentlemen. Seven points from
Dylan Brooks and seven points from Jalen Green to starters
on Saturday night. You mentioned the legs probably not being
there to finish that thing. So here the Rockets are
three and three on the season, one and two at home,
they're obviously in the Toyota Center, and here it comes Nicks.

(01:01:01):
I'm just noticing, Wow, I didn't realize Buddy Hills twenty
seven was off the bench. I didn't realize that in
real time. Crazy and then it's all right off the
bench twenty seven, m all right mix in town tonight.
I mentioned you know who headlines for them, well, what
can you say, what's going on with this funky time?
This start time seven forty five?

Speaker 1 (01:01:19):
What is that?

Speaker 5 (01:01:21):
Yeah, So the NBA has all thirty of its teams
playing tonight because they're all off tomorrow for Election Day,
and then everybody's in action. It's sort of experimenting. We
know the NBA likes to try anything. This year, it's
the second year of the Cup. These are not Cup games,
but along the same lines of I guess experimentation. What
they're doing is starting every game from six in the

(01:01:42):
nine or six to nine thirty, exactly fifteen minutes apart.
So like one game starts at six, another at six fifteen,
another at six thirty, and the idea being that, yeah,
with every team in action, then teams can you know
that fans can sort of flip around an NBA League
pass and see all these games they get to a
finish at different times. So they're just sort of trying

(01:02:02):
to see what happened if they fagger right exactly, that's right,
that's the idea. Who knows if it will work, But
I see why Adam Silver is you know JUICID as
a worthwhile attempt. Look, the one thing I'll say about
the Knicks. This is the opportunity for the Rockets to
really get all for in Shangoon going. They don't have

(01:02:23):
Mitchell Robinson. They start col Anthony Talons who can put
up points. But no one looks a cat at the
dynamic defender, and so this is the ideal spot in
my opinion, to get him going. He's shooting below forty
percent from the year. That's not good enough. We've seen
late in close games, including Saturday against the Warriors, the
Rockets aren't playing all for in Schanguon in winning time.

(01:02:43):
He did not play a single minute in the fourth
quarter or overtime on Saturday, and I think the reason
for that is Imo Udoka. He sees these Jabari at
the five Tari at the four lineups, Jabari Smith providing defense,
better four s facing more versatility. They're advantages on the
defensive side of the court. It's just when all parension

(01:03:03):
Goon is right, he provides enough offensively to counteract that. Well,
when he's shooting below forty percent from the field and
he's not giving you what he typically does offensively, then
all of a sudden you have to look at the
other end of the court and say look, we're probably
better off going for more defense, more athleticism, more force facing,
which is what they do with those front court lineups
of Jabari Smith at the five, Tari Ethan at the four.

(01:03:27):
So at some point you've got to get all for
Esion Goon going. I think it's a very delicate sort
of balancing at for ima Udoka in that you want
to reward the guys who are playing well, and on
Saturday that was clearly Jabari and Tari. However, shoud Goon
is really important to the long term formula of this team.
There's a reason you're paying him almost a max contract,
and so you want to play who deserves to play.

(01:03:50):
But you also need to make sure that Shoogoon's leash
isn't so short that he doesn't have an opportunity to
get himself going. He needs to get shot attempts, to
get in rhythm, see the ball go through the rim,
because if he starts shooting, you know, close to fifty
five percent the way he did last year and auditioned
out five six assists per game, then all of a
sudden he's going to be in those closing lineups. And
that's what they need because you know Jalen Greens started

(01:04:12):
off the year hot, but as you would expect, teams
are starting to, you know, defend him with more resources.
You're seeing more blitzes, you're seeing more double teams. We
saw it even in the win against Dallas. We saw
it certainly early in the Warriors game. So the Rocket's
got to have somebody other than Jalen step up. Your
two best offensive players last year are all friends Chinangun
and President Fleet. S Hingun is shooting below forty percent,

(01:04:33):
Fred below thirty percent. So if I get one of
those guys going at least and I think Shingoon against
Karl Anthony talents, to me, this is a good spot
to really emphasize getting him going for the first time
this season.

Speaker 6 (01:04:43):
All right, Ben Dubo's analysts here for us at seven
ninety when it comes to Rockets, I'll get you high
on this one. I peek in every so often on
exactly what Reeve Sheperd is doing just over eight minutes
a game and two and a half points, what's going
on with shepe out of Kentucky to rookie third. Overall,
a lot of us were excited and like less than

(01:05:04):
thirty seconds is this the plan or is he not
developing and earning minutes at the rate that we thought
he might.

Speaker 5 (01:05:13):
It's just tough to play ten guys, and I think
he may said going into the year that that would
be the challenge for him, and so somebody's going to
get the short end of the stike, depending on who's
hot who's cold. Cam had a couple of good games,
Cam whitmore early in the year. I do think that
the longer Fred than Lead struggles, the more they're going
to have to look at Reed Shepherd because of that

(01:05:33):
shooting stability. I don't think six games is the point
at which Supanic can say Fred's not the guy, he's
too old. These out thirty blah blah blah. But if
this continues for two or three more weeks, then I
don't see how Reed doesn't get more opportunities with Fred
continuing to shoot below thirty percent from the field, Should
that continue?

Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
All right?

Speaker 6 (01:05:51):
That's been Dubo's editor of USA Today's The Rockets Why
are also featured on the Logger Line podcast Talking Rockets
here on seven ninety Follow him at Ben Dubos du BSc.
Thank you for your time and being flexible before it's
being really appreciated.

Speaker 5 (01:06:09):
Brother good, thanks for having me.

Speaker 6 (01:06:11):
All right, man, enjoy yourself over at the TC tonight again,
seven forty five Tip Nicks in town versus the Rockets.
We'll see if the Rockets can get the five hundred
over at Toyota Center. A lot of New Yorkers around here.
I'm sure the place will be filled up tonight. All right,
let's pivot, come back, Let's get back into this Texans convo.
If you miss how we started. Are the Texans pacing

(01:06:36):
to achieve the things that you thought they would? And
with the trade deadline coming up here, we're approaching some
twenty four hours until Nick Cassario needs to get something done.
How do you prioritize what Nick should get done? I
think he's already told us that, and that may be
unsettling to some of you. We'll continue the final thirty

(01:06:59):
minutes here on Next Up Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:07:04):
Do it again on Too Done, next to What's Next?

Speaker 4 (01:07:09):
As more of Next Up continues now on Sports Talk
seven ninety, home of your World champion Houston Astros.

Speaker 6 (01:07:19):
All right, here we go up, we got here, we
go twenty four minutes from now. Matt Thomas Rossville to
Matt Thomas Show. Matt is in the studio today as
the Knicks are in town. Thanks to Ben Dubos who
moved this time to accommodate us here. Appreciate him doing that.
You can catch that interview on Sports seven ninety dot
com in the free iHeart app for my hoopheads. Rockets

(01:07:41):
sitting at five hundred. I think they're ninth in the
West right now. For those who are keeping track this
early in the season, We'll see what they have. Can
they get apron shein gunn going. Not a great performance
from Jalen Green. He did start hot up until that point.
I think the kids just stay at or above five hundred.
You stole on to get below forty forty one is

(01:08:02):
where they ended up last year, and that wasn't good enough.
So I'm gonna need them. I'm gonna need them to tick,
especially at home. Yeah, you're gonna need to do that stretch.

Speaker 7 (01:08:08):
But I'm just saying, like here in the early part
of the season, just don't dig yourself a hole, like
don't pull an Astros where you were.

Speaker 6 (01:08:14):
Like ten games at use everything in your Apollo June
to get up out of it. We'll have some more
Astros nuggets. One thing that I forgot to wrap up
the show all right before we get into some college
football as well. Let's get back into this Texans conversation.
And I started, Uh, we can open up the phone
lines as well. You want to talk Texans with Gordi
and I seven one three two one two five seven

(01:08:35):
ninety c J.

Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
Stroud.

Speaker 6 (01:08:37):
We played the audio earlier, the quote from him and
our pair of phrase, the condensed version of the quote.
I should say, we gotta stop pointing fingers. Something's amiss
over there that you got Kenyon Green's dad over the
weekend liking a tweet calling out offensive line coach calling
for him to be removed from duty. Chris Strausser Kenyan Green.

(01:08:58):
Left guard Kenyon Green on my first round pick, fifteenth overall,
whose season is over yet again, this time that shoulder separated.

Speaker 1 (01:09:08):
CJ.

Speaker 6 (01:09:08):
Stride fell on him on Thursday. Was not playing well,
Kenyon Green. I saw the Pro Football focused grades and
it's just somebody sent me a video. Gordon Kenya Green
literally is the worst ranked guard that qualifies based on
a minimum number of snaps in the NFL. You know

(01:09:31):
who's down there with him that we haven't talked about
Shaq Mason. Shack Mason is not playing well and it
has been quiet, but it doesn't look good for those
that are into the advanced analytics and all that go
look it up for yourself.

Speaker 1 (01:09:45):
What is this?

Speaker 6 (01:09:46):
I saw something Kenya Green. Kenya Green allowed thirty six pressures,
which is the most of any guard in the NFL
in six sacs, which is second among most guards in
the NFL guard excuse me, in the NFL, Shaq Mason
has allowed seven and a half sex in nine games.
Both your guards and Juice Scruggs having looked great. The

(01:10:07):
interior of this offensive line, Oh, I've seen the numbers,
Titus Howard. I saw what Hassan Riddick did to you
in his second game. I believe since returning from holding out,
there's enough to go around with this offensive line. So
the first question I asked is based on what we've

(01:10:29):
seen through nine games, the Texans have beaten one team
that currently has a winning record a home game versus
the Buffalo Bills, and that was the Bills without Marik Cooper.
That was also the Bills without Shakir their number one
wide receiver, Keyan Kolema was a young guy, showed some promise.

(01:10:50):
So that's where the Texans are. Do I think the
Texans can get to an AFC title game as currently constructed.

Speaker 1 (01:10:57):
I do not.

Speaker 6 (01:10:58):
Can they win a wild card the division game?

Speaker 5 (01:11:01):
Sure?

Speaker 6 (01:11:02):
Based on the matchup right now, the matchup would be
Baltimore Ravens versus these Texans at NRG on Sunday. If
that were the matchup, I would pick the Ravens. You
would too. The Texans have given up some nineteen passing
touchdowns through nine games, their top five in penalties. The
quarterback is getting hit tackles for loss aloud. I mean,

(01:11:24):
here's a lot of stuff wrong over there are there
are some dudes playing some goodball, sure, Kaylen Bullock. And
when he's doing this thing, told, Told, and that guy's
on the edge led by Will Anderson Jr. Of course,
mad man mixing running the ball. You got some guy
tank Dale. The last couple of games Gordon looking more
like Tankdale. So two things for me. One, No, I

(01:11:46):
wouldn't pick this team to do what I thought they
could do to start the year, and that's getting the
AFC title game. Two, I think Casarrio is going to
make a move by tomorrow. The priority should be the
offensive line. You think they're gonna make a trade. I
think they will make a trade by the man, and
I just don't think. I don't think it's gonna be online.

(01:12:08):
I think they think even with Kenyon Green being gone,
some rotation of ken Drick, Jared Patterson off concussion protocol,
and as a last resort you moved Titus over there.
I think they think there's enough on the roster.

Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
Now.

Speaker 6 (01:12:29):
Maybe I'm wrong, and I hope I am, But I
think Caserio is saying I've already put a bleap ton
of money, the second most guaranteed money, one hundred and
thirty one million dollars has been given to this offensive line,
those starting five, staying I've given them all the resources
I had to give him. Now, I think that would
be a mistake by Nick. Go get you a guard.
There are names out there. Gordon Joe Botonio has popped up.

(01:12:51):
He's not one of the names. He's down in Cleveland.
Who's my guy? The Carolina Panthers, Rob Hunt. He just
got a new contract in Carolina last season or this season.
He's a guy that could come in. You just need
somebody to come in and stop the bleeding. It is awful.
You hear Nate Davis in Chicago, and there are a
few other names that are being tossed around. Andrews Pete

(01:13:14):
for the Raiders is another name. I think it's going
to be wide receiver even if Nico returns, and there's
been no indication Denko is speaking to Gordon. There's been
no indication that Nico is going to be back. I
saw a soft report by Aaron last week, but I've
seen nothing recently that says, oh, yeah, Nico. Now, I
did see he was running routes to ninety percent or

(01:13:36):
something like that. Go get you another receiver. You needed
one with the healthy Nico anyway. So if you're asking me,
given that, I don't think they're going to use any
more resources on the old line. You need to cover
corner and you need a receiver. I can kind of
get by with the corner if the pass rush takes
their game to the next level. We saw the best
game for the Nika Archriy. Go get your receiver. Yeah,

(01:14:00):
I mean, that's what's interesting. That's all the names being
thrown out there at the trade deadline. It's I'm looking
at CBS, it's all pass rushers, pass rushing and wide receivers.
So the Texans are saying available like they're not even
like everybody's top ten trade deadline targets, none of them
are all lining.

Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
So hard to get. You know, go ahead, I'm sorry
you finished well as.

Speaker 7 (01:14:22):
Far as receivers go, Uh well, dB, So you got
Jonathan Jones with New England. You got Marshall Lattimore with
the Saints. Those are two maybe you could you could
look at you know, the problem with Alatimore is he
wants to be paid, and so it's like, are you
bringing him in just for half your rental?

Speaker 1 (01:14:38):
Whatever?

Speaker 6 (01:14:39):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (01:14:40):
And then the other names wide receiver, all the ones
who've talked about Ray Mike Williams with the Jets, Kendrick
Bourne with the Patriots, Adam Feeling with the Panthers. Did
any of those guys instantly give you an upgrade in
the passing game?

Speaker 1 (01:14:52):
I mean, maybe Adam.

Speaker 6 (01:14:54):
Thieling comes in and he's immediately better than John Mitchie
the third and Xavier Hutchinson like the goal Like Nick
has already told you, they're trying to win a Super Bowl.
You don't bring Danil Hunter and Joe Mixon and Steph
Diggs and Danika Artri. If you aren't trying to win,
you're trying to win right now, So can double down,

(01:15:14):
take the adequate amount of resources and go get you
a team up front and another piece. So to your point,
the wide receiver room appears to be more robust than linemen,
then go get your receiver. But you better have your plan.
Like I just don't understand why they won't try to
move Titus over there again and put Blake Fish in

(01:15:35):
at right tackle. I get it. Tightest in the guard,
I get it. He really wasn't good. He's the best
option you have. Now, maybe they can get by with
Jared Patterson, and that's probably what they'll do, Gordon. They
will probably start Jared Patterson, put him at guard, and
they'll just roll with that. But that's not gonna help you.

(01:15:55):
With Shaq Mason. That's not gonna help you with Titus
at right tackle. Across the board, this line is having
their bleap handed to them, and then I can't just
blame the line. Bobby's Lord, what the hell you going on?
The Texans have been outscored in the second half by opponents.
Gordon one two to eighty two. They're getting outscored by

(01:16:17):
forty points in the second half of games. Anybody that
plays running back can get four yards to carry on
this team. Apparently this is the most I know. We
gotta go to break. We continue this on the other side,
Gord there as we wrap and I'm curious how you
feel about this. Is this the most dire circumstances we've

(01:16:39):
seen the Miko as head coach of the Texans being
because he's he's in the top spot, he's the big
dog over there. You gotta get it fixed, my guy,
and I hope you do. But I'm gonna continue doing
what we do on next up and on this station,
were gonna speak the real truth. I don't want it
to be the truth, but this is what it is.

(01:17:00):
They're not playing good football and the quarterback is telling
you we gotta stop pointing fingers. Wow, last year, we
couldn't fathom this what we're dealing with right now, and
going brought it up like were they just playing above
their heads last year? Or is this the real Texans?

(01:17:25):
All right, let's take some phone calls and wrap up.
Seven one, three, seven eighty.

Speaker 1 (01:17:29):
Next Up continues.

Speaker 4 (01:17:32):
On your phone listen to Sports Talk seven ninety on
any device with our free iHeart radio an I.

Speaker 6 (01:17:40):
Thought they were gonna play the uh they were gonna
play the lyrics for me there, Connor, I was ready
to get to it, walk a far complaining the whole thing.
All right, some of y'all don't know what the hell
I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
That happens? Okay, oh here come Jill. Yeah what.

Speaker 6 (01:18:00):
All right, let's wrap up for a Monday edition. That
made me feel a little bit better. I get to
talk in Texas right now. I'm just not happy. You
can't be happy, and they can sell me that everything
is gonna be, you know, magically fix itself. I now
have evidence the quarterback told me and some fingerpoints going
on in there. Now I will commend de Miko for

(01:18:22):
keeping the lid tight. Yeah we haven't seen or heard
things on social media. But the quarterback who has earned
the right, he's the one picking itself up off the
turf every week. He's earned the right with his body
to be able to say stop it.

Speaker 1 (01:18:38):
Now.

Speaker 6 (01:18:39):
His vernacular is a little different than what mine would be,
but that's forty three year old non number two overall
draft selection standing Northfleet saying that he's in a different situation.
I think a serio's telling us and maybe I'm wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:18:54):
I hope I'm wrong.

Speaker 6 (01:18:55):
I hope they do go get a guard, at least
one lineman, and I would really I appreciate.

Speaker 10 (01:19:00):
Oh.

Speaker 6 (01:19:00):
Another name that popped up that I saw, Brady Christiansen.
He's he was a mid round pick for the Carolina
Panthers about four years ago or so. And he's a
guy short arms, played really well at BYU at tackle,
thus getting drafted, but he probably functions better as a guard.
That's a guy that can give you some position flex

(01:19:22):
can't cost you a lot. To go get Brady christians
And I know many of you listening have no idea
who that is. So that's that part. Go get your
receiver now. I did see this on the Pat McAfee show.

Speaker 1 (01:19:32):
This was.

Speaker 6 (01:19:35):
Seven minutes ago. Pat McAfee posted this. This is Adam Schefter.
He dropped by for his weekly Schefter. I think most
of the big names that have been out there have
already been traded. There are, however, a few teams that
believe they can enhance their roster, and there's always that
one curveball that nobody sees coming against Schefter on the

(01:19:56):
Pat McAfee show, is that curveball Nick Asio. Does Nick
have it in him to go do one more? When
they got Joe Mixon, we all said, oh, now, some
of you underrated Joe's wash. How about now I was
not one of them. Joe Mixon fit perfectly coming from
a similar system in Cincinnati. Part of the reason I

(01:20:19):
keep screaming, the hell with it, Go get to you
Higgins and pay him a contract, Go get him from
Cency if he is made available. But they gotta go
do something. You gotta score points, and you gotta get
CJ more options. You got John Minche and who is
that John Mintioned? Xavier Hutchinson, two guys I like zero

(01:20:40):
catches versus the Jets. Now Jets have a good pass defense,
but I'm just saying zero zero catches, stop this. Even
with Nico. CJ said it last week with Nico ain't enough.
Nico wouldn't have changed that game on Sunday or excuse me,
on Thursday. All right, So that's that beast. Also in

(01:21:03):
the studio we have the ladies are playing right now.
It's college basketball season. I got on the U of
H basketball dry field right now the men's game also
underway today and into the evening, so college basketball is
upon us. I'm looking at the schedule here at seven ninety,
what we got six forty five tonight over on KPRC

(01:21:27):
you get U of H men versus Jackson State men.
And then at eight thirty on KTRH you get the
Horns men's team versus Ohio State. So that's six forty
five kPr C for U of H and then eight
thirty you get the University of Texas. All right, I
also need to brag on some folks as we get

(01:21:49):
out of here. The Astros name for finalists for the
Silver Slugger Award jose L two V you and I
and Alvarez Yannier Day and yeah, Alex Bregman.

Speaker 1 (01:22:03):
We'll see what happens.

Speaker 6 (01:22:04):
Unlikely that something gets agreed to by the deadline, the
exclusive window to negotiate over there at minute May Park
between Dana Brown and Alex Bregman. Jim Bowden of the
Athletic former GM I worked alongside him or in the
same area as him with the Washington Nationals former GM.
He says Bregman should come in about seven years, one

(01:22:27):
eighty five, five We know that Jim Crane hadn't done
anything like that, so we'll see what that looks like.

Speaker 1 (01:22:33):
I also had one other note.

Speaker 6 (01:22:34):
Oh, Jim Bowden also says, don't be surprised if Cody Bellinger,
formerly of the Cubs, signs a deal to come to
Houston and solidify that center field position. That was some
juicy nuggets I saw from the Athletic over the weekend.
All right, Rockets in action tonight over at Toyota Center
seven forty five. They're gonna tip things off. We know

(01:22:56):
that voting the what is the deadline is tomorrow. Go
over there and make sure you exercise your right to
do that, and that'll be all I say on that.
All right, we'll wrap here for Connady McGovern for Chris
Gordy stan Fleet also been dubos of the Rockets Wire
and lagger Line podcast. We'll appreciate you hanging out with

(01:23:17):
us on a Monday. We'll see what Dana and Casarrio do.
Matt Thomas Ross coming your way, God willing will do
it again tomorrow. Y'all be well pleased to you
