(01:47):
field today. Week won National Football League Gordy Tomorrow. We're
a little bit more than twenty four hours until we
kick this thing off, more like something in the thirties. Nonetheless,
we get a big boy match up Chiefs Raven going
down to Marty kickoff week one. We didn't get NFL
on Friday as well, we know on Sunday. More importantly,
the Texans are going up to Indianapolis where they will

(02:10):
face the Colts. A long time before, the Coats have
been kicking the Texans asked for a while, but the
tide has turned as of recent given Bill O'Brien's tenure
with Deshaun Watson. A little bit of a love there
for those three seasons, and then here comes CJ.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Stroud.

Speaker 6 (02:27):
You know we split with the Colts a year ago,
and that's really where I want to start. I envision
guys a lot of Texans today, Gordon, maybe squeeze in
some college football is there's some tibbits that have come out.
Excuse me as it pertains to the coaches pole and
the excuse me the ap pole. You and I got
to the coaches pole yesterday. We started looking a little
bit into week two in college football.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Let's start here, shall we.

Speaker 7 (02:52):
Go.

Speaker 6 (02:52):
I've been thinking a lot about the Indianapolis Colts game
and some books, our ESPN bet has aching it back up.
You mentioned the money coming in. This point spread is
back up to Texans by three on the road at
Lucas Hall Stadium, and so it just got me thinking
about the game. And we will we'll we'll get into

(03:15):
all the tidbits of matchups and this versus Dad and
where can the Texans gain the advantage. We'll do all
of that as we get closer the Friday, the final
show of the week. But that's one thing I don't
think we've put enough stock into Connor. Let's let's get
ready to hear from Demiko. I know he addressed the
public on or address the media excuse me, on Monday,

(03:37):
and I want to hear from him again as we
get ready to make our way through. I'll make my point.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
First.

Speaker 6 (03:44):
We talked about CJ and Steph Diggs, you know, Danil Hunter,
the suspensions of the Nico archery, Aziz al Shaia Christian
has been hurt, Dereck Stingley, junr Lockdown, Kamar Lasson and Bullock.
The young guys over there offensive line. Are they healthy?
Are they not? Oh? The running back conversation, which we'll
get back into today as well.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
You know who we haven't discussed enough for me.

Speaker 6 (04:10):
Giving the situation that faces the Texans in week one, Gordion,
why an't we talking about Demiko? Stan Why would you
bring up Demko? He was narrowly edged out for Coach
of the Years that Kevin Stefanski in Cleveland wins the award.
Certainly not bagging on Demko. He knows I've told him
personally on a couple of occasions. I'm with you, Brodi,

(04:31):
but I have a job to do just like you do, Gordion.
When Demiico Ryans and his Texans have had time to
prepare for an opponent to start the season on coming
off of BUYE, Demiko Ryans is zero and two, I'm
not saying I'm picking the coach to win. I am
saying it makes me think, what has Demko, Bobby Slack

(04:55):
and Matt Burke the coordinators along with Demiko, what have
they learned in year one to get them better suited
and get ready to go to start year two? They
lose that Harble game coming out to buy to Atlanta
on the road last year, and then we know they
started the year Week one at Baltimore. I get it,

(05:16):
tough environment starting the year, eventual MVP on the other
sideline of Lamar Jackson c J. Stroud's first game, I
get all that. Demico Ryan's first game as a hitman,
So I'm going to give them a mull again for
that one. I've seen Demico accomplish a lot as his
historic quarterback, Gordy, we haven't seen them with time to
prepare emerge. Victorious does this concern you going into Anthony

(05:40):
Richardson and Shane Steikeen's house.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
It's all how you spin it.

Speaker 8 (05:43):
I mean, you know you want to spend it as
Jamiko Ryans is winless and his season openers as a
head coach. I mean, we can spin it that way.
You know, it's time to prepare, including the go ahead. Yeah,
I mean the reality is, I mean, just for the
Texans as a franchise, and this goes back to you know,
kobiak dom Capers, you know, into the Bill O'Brien error.

(06:05):
The Indianapoli has been a house of horrors for the
for the Texans. And granted that that was through all
the Peyton Manning years and then into the Andrew Luck years,
but even years in between, you know, it's been a
tough place to play. Do you realize when the Texans
started as a franchise they lost thirteen in a row
up in Indianapolis.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Yeah, they do, n man, it's pretty good. They had
a lot of Hall of Famers.

Speaker 8 (06:25):
On that, and then, like I said, Andrew Luck into him.
But the Texas Texas have now won two in a
row up in Indy. They're five and four in their
last night up in Indy. So the tide has turned
here in recent years. And I get it's with different
coaching staffs, and it's even with you know, being trying
to tank with David Cully and Lovey Smith and you

(06:46):
still had some success there. So yeah, it'll just be
very interesting. I just keep thinking of it as this
is their home opener. This is the debut of whatever
new they've got up at what's their stadium called Lucas Oyle,
the RCA doing whatever it is. You know, they're gonna
debut whatever new stuff they got going there at the stadium.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
That fan base is gonna be rocking. It's gonna be
a loud.

Speaker 8 (07:07):
And I honestly think stan the comments you've heard this offseason,
I don't I don't think we'd call it a rivalry,
but they're trying to make it one.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Yeah, they're trying to make this something.

Speaker 8 (07:19):
And obviously with the you know, the the last regular
season game last year that was a de fact a
playoff game, this is, uh, this is a big one,
and I think you're gonna have some emotions flying and
Temple's flaring and all that. But this is where the
even kellness of Demico Ryans comes into play like he's
got to. He's got to keep that level headed mentality.
This is one of you know, one of seventeen. You know,

(07:43):
just bring that blue collar mentality and let's go. No, no, no,
don't get wrapped up in the emotion. You know, they're
gonna try to bait you. They're gonna try to get
some late you know. I think Shoven you want to,
you want, you want to overly emotional.

Speaker 6 (07:56):
No, I think Domico should put emphasis on how important
game is. This is a divisional foe that we barely
be on the road at their house the last time
we played a regular season football game. The environment then,
as I thought about it, overnight, will be similar to
the environment to start the year. This is a big
game for them. I think Domiko and specifically how this

(08:18):
team has been constructed. They are the proper amount of
veterans and youngins. And I think, Demiko, you've had more
time to prepare for every than anybody else in the
league other than Chicago. You've got this offensive line is
the healthiest it's been in a year. CJ. Stroud, Bobby
Sloyd on the same page year two, your strength on

(08:40):
offense got better, Tank Dale. Everybody is healthier. The wide
receiver room is better. We believe a running back room
is better. Now, you still got some folks nicked up.
Still keep my eyes on this Will Anderson report. The
injury report to start week one around the league should
come out today. At some point, I think Demiko should
lean into how critical it is to get off one

(09:02):
to zero division opponent on the road and let's build
some momentum and go. Now, No, you can't be necessarily
in preparation for this week. I don't think he should
be clamoring, Yo, we're going to the super Bowl this week,
and let's not be crazy. I remind you. Now, let's
look at I'm looking at some here. Okay, gotcha, a

(09:24):
couple things I want to check out. Just the first
time the Texans are opening the season up in Indiana,
I thought that was interesting. We also Domico has not
seen Anthony Richardson and Jonathan Taylor on the field at
the same time. Jonathan Taylor was on the iard to
start the year week two when they came here a
year ago. Anthony Richardson was on the iar week eighteen

(09:46):
when the Texans went up and got that win. You
remember the Nico seventy five yard tug. You already mentioned
the playoff atmosphere. I also think and I'll probably say
this when we get on the other side, because I
want to continue this and open up the phone lines
for the people. C J. Stroud and Demico Ryan's three
and seven. More so CJ. Stroude. We know he was

(10:07):
nicked up a little bit three and seven on the
road last year at home. C J. Stroude was stellar, unbelievable,
had some good performances on the road. Cincinnati comes to mind,
but they also laid some duds on the road last year.
We talked about Baltimore Week one, at Carolina, at Atlanta,
at the Jets. Those are four games right off the

(10:30):
rip that come to mind. They didn't play so well
on the road, So I think it is critical that
you start putting some of those demons to bed and
that you get off on the right foot. But we
spent a lot of time, inappropriately so, discussing the players,
and we will continue to do that as we open
up the phone lines. Going to break seven one, three, two, one, two,
five seven ninety My expectation, and I'm curious about you,

(10:52):
should we be Gord, I want to say, assume what's
the proper word here? Should Should we be a expecting
Demko to have his team ready to play some of
their best ball, given who the opponent is, Given all
of this stuff this offseason, all of the time you've
had to prepare, and he's not been through this already.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
Am I being.

Speaker 6 (11:16):
Too aggressive in my expectations. We'll hear from Gordy. We'll
hear from you on the other side. Seven one, three five,
seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Next up continues on your fall. Listen to Sports Talk
seven ninety on any device with our free iHeartRadio app. Yeah, Yeah,
new year.

Speaker 9 (11:38):
Not worried about last year? Right, Last year was last year.
We're fully focused on twenty twenty four. We're completely different team.
They're a different team as well, So for me, last
year has nothing to do with this year going into
their place on the side.

Speaker 6 (11:53):
Demiko RAN's addressing the media on Monday, he will do
so again this afternoon. I will lead that to the
A team and Matt Thomas to parse through that. Yes, coach,
last year is last year and last year to start
the season. Coming out of training camp, went up to

(12:14):
Baltimore and your first game as a head coach, your
quarterbacks first game as a professional, got beat up in
the second half at Baltimore to Eventional Team Eventual MVP
and a team that made it to the AFC Championship game.
In the Ravens, wein saw you over the bye week,
come out of the bye week and.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Go on the road.

Speaker 6 (12:33):
Who is that, Gord Atlanta or Carolina coming out of
the bye week, and took al I need to see
can you get the troops ready to go? I know
that you can. I watched the playoff game at NRG
when you guys are locked in. Now that wasn't coming
off of bye that was in the Wildcott round. You
had to go play c J. Stroud on the road

(12:53):
rookie season looks a lot different than his home record.
To get on top of the throne, you gotta go
on the road and get it done. Pat Mahomes showed
us he could do it. Last year was the first
he had to do it. He when it did it
last year. So these are reasonable expectations. And so I
asked you in the break Gordon, and it's just where
my head is right now that there are reasons for

(13:16):
optimism that I want to highlight here. But I asked
you this off here. I'll bring it on the air
seven one three, two one two five seven ninety When
you start, is it unreasonable for me to have to
ask Demiko to have his troops ready to go play
at a level commensurate with the talent that's on the roster,
Because I think that's all you can ask any coach

(13:36):
to do. Are your troops performing to the best air
of their ability? Now, if you don't have enough troops,
then I start looking at Casario. Demiko clearly has enough
talent over there. Some dudes are banged up. We'll see
the injury report. Is it reasonable for me? A? Is
it reasonable for me to have expectations for Demko to
have the guys ready to go? And B? Do you
give the coaching advantage in this situation going on the

(13:59):
road week one in the Lucas or you mentioned a
house Horis versus a guy that many people around the
league love as well, another coach in his second year
with a second year quarterback in Shane Steiken? Do we
have the coach and give advantage? B? And is it
a reasonable expectation for me to ask the Miko to
had the guys ready to play at their Week one
best Sunday.

Speaker 8 (14:19):
I think it's a little bit of a wash on
the on the coaching side, because really, well, you got
to give Shane Syken credit for that guy to do
what he did nine and eight last year, nearly win
in the division, nearly win in the playoffs. It came
down to or nearly making the playoffs, and it came
down the last week of season. And he did that
with Gardner Minshew. You know, Anthony Richardson won that job
pretty quickly there when they drafted him and said this

(14:41):
has got to be our guy. And then to take
that same offensive system and have success with Gardner Minshew
and and keep that team afloat. I mean, look around
the league at backup quarterbacks stand and we'll get into
David Smills a little bit later.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
We will the.

Speaker 8 (14:56):
You know how many other teams could stay afloat. You know,
the the Browns were to do it, pull Joe Flacco
office cap Tomlin did it with Mason Rudolph a few
years ago. It's just it's very hard to do. And
so I give Shane Stiking credit. We love Demiko and
I'm not trying to take anything away from him. I
think he's going to be a phenomenal head coach for
years and years to come. Who's that to said he'd

(15:17):
beat a bet one of the best of all time.
I'm sorry to interrupt you something coming off of year
one for both these guys, I think I don't know
if there's an explicit advantage now, like Dimiko's froster better.
I think they got a better team. But as we know,
it's the National Football League. You go on the road,
it is tough to win. And you mentioned this team
struggled to win on the road last year, not even
in hostile environments. I mean it's not exactly like those

(15:41):
are a house of horror. So uh but to your
to your point, well, Demiko, have the team ready?

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (15:47):
Man, how can you not be ready for a week one?
How can you not be fired up? How can you
not bring everything he got into this one? Of course
they're going to be excited. I'm talking about execution. Yeah, Like,
how many busted coverages will we say? Well, so you're
always you know what I mean, Like, since is always
a little sloppy Week one.

Speaker 6 (16:03):
That's why I said bust the coverages. Now, Oh, let's
come back to that offense is sloppy. Wait a minute,
Joe Mixon has been in this offense before. Stefan Diggs
been in this league a long time. Dalcy Schultz has
been in this offense, obviously tanking Nico. This entire offensive
line was here last year. Granted, Kenyon Green was on
I off for the season. So everybody over there on offense,

(16:24):
it's either a big boy veteran damn near ten years
in the league, or they've been in this offense for
now the second season. So typically I might agree with you,
Gord and saying, all right, this should be some kinks
You've had as long as or longer than anybody else
in the league to get ready, not named Chicago. So
my expectation would be that offense should look better by

(16:45):
the time we get the end of Week one. The
Texans offense should look more in sync and up and
running as anybody else.

Speaker 8 (16:52):
I mean, just I'm going back literally a year ago
Week one in the NFL last year.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Let me read you some scores.

Speaker 8 (16:57):
Twenty one to twenty sixteen, fifteen, twenty five to nine,
twenty four to ten. I mean, like these are low
scoring games, you know what I mean? Like so often
I just think it takes I don't know if offenses
come out high flying in Week one, I.

Speaker 6 (17:13):
Just need them to score more points in ndy. That's
my expectation. The offense should be good enough. And because
look look what I saw and this is really a
tip of the cap to c J. Stroud, Bobby Slok
and Demico the second time that they saw Gus Bradley.
All Right, So Gus Bradley got the best of c J.

(17:33):
Stroud week two last year. He's the decordinator of the Colts.
How did CJ look when they saw him in Week eighteen?
He went for two sixty four, got the touchdown right
off the top, won the ball game?

Speaker 1 (17:45):
All right? Cool?

Speaker 6 (17:46):
What about Jim Schwartz in the Cleveland Browns the second
time around? They lost to Cleveland that first time. That
second time around in the playoffs, c J. Stroud put
up two seventy four and they polly walked to Cleveland
Browns forty five to fourteen. The second time around that
they faced Jacksonville CJ on the road Week three, they

(18:08):
get a dub at Jacksonville. We would see Jacksonville on
November twenty six, that's Week twelve at NRG. Granted, the
Texans came up short but Stroud still threw for three
hundred and four yards, threw a ton and ran for one.
He might have thrown for two, but I know he
ran for one as well. He outplayed Trevor Lawrence according
to passer rating in QBR SO history says, when Stroud

(18:33):
sees the decoordinated a second time, everybody other than what's
going on in Baltimore. Typically and they got a new
they got some new cats up there. Typically he can
put in work. Those are my expectations. Let's go to
the phone line shout with let's talk some Texans. Uh,
there's some other things I want to brag on the
other side as well.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Sep.

Speaker 6 (18:51):
One three, two one, two, five seven ninety. Let's go
up top, Gary and Spring.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Good morning, Hey, good morning guys. A great conversation. Man,
this I'm such.

Speaker 10 (19:01):
A homer for all the Houston sports teams, the uh,
the big the major leagues of basketball and everything not
to not too far from now, we're going to have
the football, the baseball, and the basketball all going.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
So that's that's something else.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
But man, this is exciting.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
But my take on what's gonna happen when we come
out of the gate is I'm looking at last year
with Stroud.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
And what he had to do all the whole.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Season long was get adjusted to the people he was
playing against and the people he's playing with. He came
from college where only half the people are monsters.

Speaker 4 (19:34):
He went to the pros where everybody's.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
A monster, faster, bigger, stronger and trying to take your
head off. So that's an adjustment period there. So now
he's past that. Now he's going to go to the
next level and he's going to be better this year.
But coming out of the gate, I don't expect too much.
And here's why, because he's got there's there's a whole
lot of new players on both sides of the ball.

(19:59):
They're better, they're faster, they're stronger. They're gonna be good
as time goes along, but it's gonna be a learning
curve for the first five six games. They're gonna look good,
they're gonna mess up, they're gonna struggle, you know, because
there's all new people. So you can't bring all these
new people and come out of the gate and sync.
You can't do it.

Speaker 11 (20:19):
It's not gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (20:20):
And it's just my opinion. I feel it's my opinion.

Speaker 6 (20:22):
I appreciate the call. Gary, I would ask you this,
and we do thank you for your call. There are
two new starters on offense, so wait three Kenyon Green,
Joe Mixing and Steph Diggs and Kenya Green should know
this offense. Just because he wasn't physically out there on
the practice field when the coach calls the play, Kenyr
Green should know what the play is and what his
responsibilities are the rest of offensive line, so on and

(20:43):
so forth. So let's really count it. There's two, it's
two through starters. Now, defense a bit of a different story.
Your mic lineback is different, one of your ends is different,
then tire interior is different. Petrie's in a new position.
Granted Petrie was on this team last year, and new
cornerback too. I'll take that. But if Henry to Toe

(21:04):
and Jake Hansen have to go in there linebacker the
start and it looks over it, I'll never heew it.
And it looks like they're going to All of those
people were here last year, so they shouldn't know where
to go and where to be. So my expectation is
they should look as good in Week one as anybody
else in the league. Before I go do my read,

(21:26):
go to your response to what you heard from Gary
and Spring and my thoughts for we here from John
Alexander as well.

Speaker 8 (21:31):
I think there's a yeah, I mean, I think there's
an element of there's a lot of new, there's a
lot of getting. Where's the newest Joe Mixons never played it?
I just said two on offense. Where's the rest of
the new dude's been in the league almost ten years games?
Is this full offensive line played together?

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Are you kidding me?

Speaker 6 (21:50):
Those old bombs I should call bombs. And I say
that as a term of endem it, like those guys
know what to do.

Speaker 8 (21:56):
Chemistry and continent, that's the word.

Speaker 6 (21:59):
But that's different from new chemistry. Continuity and newness are
different things to me.

Speaker 8 (22:06):
Yeah, but when guys are playing together in a in
a football game for the first time, you got it.

Speaker 6 (22:12):
Devote Oh not all not all them bleeping dudes that
Demko chose to sit out for all them bleeping regularly
the preseason games. When I didn't see Revien Jordan in
uniform in the preseason, I didn't see Damian Pierce when
they told me dudes didn't need to go out there
that told me that they had all the continuity that
the coach thought they should have.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
That's what it told me.

Speaker 6 (22:32):
Now, if that's what you're going to do, Coach Brian,
then I'm going to evaluate what you put out there.
I'm just letting it be known. These are my expectations.
What are yours?

Speaker 4 (22:44):
Well?

Speaker 6 (22:44):

talking some Texans here on seven ninety, where real Texas
talk and listen. Fellas back on the practice field today
eleven o'clock. I think they get going. Kind enough to
join us as he prepares to cover today's practice for
the Houston Chronicle. On the beat for the Texans, my

(24:31):
brother friend of mine, Jonathan m Alexander JMA.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
Good morning to you, man. You're ready for a week
one practice.

Speaker 12 (24:38):
Absolutely, it's time to get it started. Man, too many
training camp practices. I'm glad it's finally here.

Speaker 6 (24:44):
Yeah, man, I'm sure the play us all too like.
Good God, let's get out of camp and get ready
to Rock. All right, you posted something yesterday. I do
believe ten Bowl predictions for twenty twenty four. Now, before
we get to your article, I'm not sure if you
heard me start the show, Gordian and I I posed
this question to the public. I looked at Demiko, Rance

(25:04):
and CJ. Stroud last year, obviously their first season, and
when they had time to prepare, a more time than
usual to prepare for an opponent Week one at Baltimore
and then coming out of that bye week going to
I think that was at Carolina and the result wasn't great.

Speaker 7 (25:21):
C J.

Speaker 6 (25:21):
Stroud on the road as a start of three and
seven losing record. Is it unfair or your thoughts expectations
for Demko and the rest of this ball club to
have these guys ready to play their best week one
ball given the continuity, especially on offense.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Is that fair of me?

Speaker 12 (25:41):
Is it fair to expect them?

Speaker 4 (25:42):
I think they they could. They will have a good game.

Speaker 12 (25:46):
They've been preparing all summer. I wouldn't look at the
previous two instances that you mentioned, like coming off the
bye week and the week one week won, they had
a lot to work through the first start. I'm with you, yeah,
that Carolina game. They talked to some players in the
locker room. They admitted they kind of looked past Carolina

(26:08):
and who's the work and then that was certainly their fault, okay.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
And who's hell responsible for that?

Speaker 6 (26:13):
If that's the mindset of the team, who's hell responsible
for that?

Speaker 9 (26:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 12 (26:18):
You got? I mean you got to hold everybody responsible
because when coaches down to the players. But I don't
think that that would, uh, you know, have an effect
on them going into Week one. I think they're looking
at this as an opportunity that they need to win,
especially early in their season because the later part of
the season gets really tough, and I think they should

(26:38):
be prepared and they'll have most of their main players,
primary players on hand ready to play Week one.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
Jonathan, It's interesting.

Speaker 8 (26:47):
I mean they've added a lot of new new pieces,
from Stephan Diggs to Joe Mixon and you know, Daniel
Haunter all these new pieces. How well do you think
they've all geled throughout training camp in the preseason and
how are they for those big words, uh we throughout
their chemistry and continuity or do we see a little
green in Week one? All new pieces, all the timing's

(27:10):
not there yet with Joe Mixon or c J. Stroud
connecting with Stefon Diggs or do you think maybe that's
a little bit overblown.

Speaker 12 (27:17):
I think it's a little bit overblown. I think they've
probably jailed as well as you probably expect. You know,
you look at last year, you know they were all
playing together for the first time. I think that happens.
But I think they've put in the work throughout the
off season. Look at training camps, look at preseason. Diggs
was one of that star out his favorite targets. They've
been working on time and all all off seasons, so

(27:37):
I think you'll see it come to fruition. Daneil Hunter
really doesn't need I think, you know, rushing with his rushers,
that does take a little bit of time. But I
think Daniel Hunter is a guy you can plug in
anywhere and he'll be successful. You saw that in the
Pittsburgh game and not just in fields off down with
one arm with that sack. And then you look at
Joe Mixon, I think he's probably the guy who it

(27:59):
will probably take the longer to get adjusted, just because
he's coming off that injury. He's healthy now, but I
think he could take a little bit longer for him
to get fully back, but I don't see it taking
him too long. And the Texans have a lot of
options at run him back, from cam Akers, the Damien Piers,
Darre Gumbowila two who can help shoulder that load. So

(28:20):
I think it's a little bit overground.

Speaker 6 (28:22):
Talking with Jonathan m Alexander, the Houston Chronicle covers the Texans,
and I want to delve into your ten predictions for
twenty twenty four. You've got seven and eight in the
running back room. I don't want to steal all your thunder,
but you have some expectations for Joe Mixing and Damien Pierce.
Specific to those two gentlemen, what do you think in
twenty twenty four will bring.

Speaker 12 (28:45):
Yeah, I think as long as Joe Mixing has a
is healthy, I think he can have a really good season.
He looked good when he returned from the injury. So
you know I predicted I mean, you know, I was
a little bit lighthearted with our prediction, but I predicted
that he get just under a thousand yards. Also, you
know said that I think Damian Pierce will get back

(29:07):
to his not necessarily his rookie form, but he won't
be struggling the way he did last year. I think
he'll be a little bit more prepared, and I think
he'll be better than a lot of people are expecting.
A lot of people are expected because of those preseason rushes,
that he'll have a bad year. I think he'll be
used in a variety of ways from special teams and

(29:28):
as a backup running back. And I think he'll have
more success than he.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Had last year.

Speaker 12 (29:31):
So those are two of the bigger predictions I made.

Speaker 1 (29:34):
We talked about Jonathan.

Speaker 8 (29:36):
This is a place going up to Indianapolis, place where
the Texans historically have not had a lot of success.
In fact, as a franchise, they lost the first thirteen
straight up there in Indianapolis. More successes of l two
in a row, five and four in their last nine
up there. But we were talking to her about it.
You know, who has the coaching advantage, and obviously Dimiko
is very beloved and you know, as a finalist for

(29:56):
Coach of the Year and all that, but I think
you got to give Shane sich and credit what he
was able to do year with the injury to Anthony Richardson.
And yet you know, to still get wins with Gardner
Minshew and finished nine and eight, and you know they
were one went away from winning the division and you know,
making it to the playoffs. So do you think there's
a clear cut I mean, we're biased here in Houston.
We love Demko, But do you think there's a clear
cut coaching edge here or is it kind of a

(30:18):
watch with two guys coming off their rookie seasons as
head coaches.

Speaker 12 (30:22):
No, I absolutely think it's a watch. I think when
you looked at Coach of the Year, if the voters
would have waited a little bit longer, I think it
would have been I think it should have been between
Saint's Titan and Demico Ryans. I think what, like you mentioned,
what shanees Tychan was able to do with the Indianapolis coach,
considering he lost his starting quarterback, did not have Jonathan

(30:44):
Taylor for most of the year, and was still able
to keep the coach in that playoff race for as
long as they did all the way up until we
hit eighteen. With that final game and that play, that
fourth down play was a brilliant play. He had just
put it in the right player to throw to. And
if this quarterback had made the right throw. So yeah,

(31:06):
I believe it's a little bit of a watch. I
think both the great coaches and I think you ask
any banter body around the league, they'll say the same thing.
But I do think the Texans have a little bit
more talent and I think that'll show this season as
long as they can remain healthy.

Speaker 6 (31:22):
All right, Jay mate, we'll get you out of here
on this one. Actually, these two. First one, c J. Stroud,
I expect him to hit the ground running, Bobby Sloyck,
healthy offensive line, more toys. This should be one of
the more proficient offenses international Football League starting in Week
one relative to the rest of the league. When we
get to the end of week eighteen, what will the

(31:44):
national and local media be saying about CJ.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Stroud.

Speaker 12 (31:48):
I think the potential there is that CJ. Stroud will
be an MVP candidate, and that was in one of
my predictions. I just think, you know, a lot of
people were talking about a sophomore slump, but when you
look at teams and players who have had sophomore slumps,
you know, of course teams often play that worst schedule,
then they go if they finish first, they play the

(32:08):
best schedule. But teams don't typically supply there are quarterbacks
with the talent that the Texans have done this year.
Adding Stefan Digg and Jill Mix into the mix while
also retaining some other key pieces on this offense is
going to help elevate CJ. Strodd, And we obviously know
the type of talent he had at a really the
greatest rookie season of all time, and then you just

(32:31):
give him more talent. He can only soar from there
as long as he stays healthy and as long as
that offensive line for Texans. So I do think we'll
be talking about c. J. Strodd and the MVP conversation.
Come lea gay team, all right?

Speaker 6 (32:42):
And then finally Week one is here. Not going to
ask you for your game prediction, but I will based
on what you put out there again at the Houston Chronicle,
Jonathan Alexander joining us on the Texas beat Texans out
on the practice field and probably another eighteen minutes or so.
I think they go out there at eleven or eleven thirty.
How will the Texans ease and conclude in twenty twenty
four based on what your prediction model suggests.

Speaker 12 (33:07):
Yeah, my prediction that I have been going to the
AFC Championship game. I think they'll be on par with
I think I think they're around tied for the second
third best team in the AFC with the Ravens, and
I think, you know, they'll get a wild card and
go get past the AFC divisional woes and face the
Chiefs where I think the Chiefs are really the team

(33:27):
to beat. I think Chiefs are a little bit ahead
of the rest of the competition and will be in
the line for their third Super Bowl in the row.

Speaker 6 (33:36):
All right, that's the voice of Jonathan m Alexander, courtesy
of the Houston Chronicle. Dropping by next up with Fleet
and Gordon. Make sure you follow Jonathan for your Texans
content at jo N the letter. M Alexander, Well appreciate you, brother,
Thank you much.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
Man.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Enjoy practice.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
I appreciate y'all.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
All right, talk to you a gentleman.

Speaker 6 (33:55):
Just got paid for the Houston Texas going a bit
of breaking news this morning, controversial in nature to some.
I'm gonna have some fun with you on the other sides.
Both talk seven ninety next up, wrapping up at one.

Speaker 8 (34:08):
Yeah, it's funny when when I talk about the Texas
backup quarterback.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
It makes me want to drink.

Speaker 8 (34:13):
It makes me want to grab an ice called crossord
Ba from our friends over our Carbock brow and we'll
be telling you guys about the grand opening of Uh
Pizza Pints over at Carbock Brewing. It is a brand
new place right there on the grounds at car Bok,
right next to the beer.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
Garden and the store there.

Speaker 8 (34:32):
If you've ever been in there into the shop and
bought some of the cool t shirts they have there,
it's right next to it. Pizza and pints, and man,
they've got a lot of great things going on inside
of there. And man, the Neapolitan pizza, you gotta go
try it out. But they got all the fresh bruise
from Carbok Brewing on tap, including the Crawford Bock.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
They got some TVs in there as well. It's air conditioned.

Speaker 8 (34:51):
It's enclosed, so you can watch whether it's the Astros,
whether it's college football, NFL, whatever it is. They're gonna
have it on over there at Carbock Brewing. Inside pints,
pizza and pints, and you can get yourself an ice
cool pint and get a red hot pizza to go
with it. Some great apps as well. Tried them out
last week. The monzarella sticks are huge, the meatballs really good,

(35:12):
baked ricata, cheesy bread, they got all of it, salads
if you're looking to go a little bit lighter. And
the hot honey pepperoni pizza, my goodness, that was probably
my favorite as well. Tons of great options over there
at Pizza and pintes at Carbock Brewing. You need to
go check them out today, open today, close on Mondays,
but open the open today all throughout this week and
go check them out. It is pizza pints right there

(35:33):
at Carbock Brewing and get yourself a Crawford Bock. It's
home run every time.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
Next Up continues.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
Now.

Speaker 5 (35:40):
I'm a new listener at already a huge fan. New listener.

Speaker 4 (35:43):
I love the show with Stan nor Plate Chris Cordy
on Sports Tuck seven night.

Speaker 8 (35:51):
Put it up here.

Speaker 13 (35:54):
So we haven't been told any of our playing time.
I'll be ready if my numbers called. I've been putting
in a lot of really good work with our players
throughout training camp so far and OTAs, and when I
got my chance to go out there and perform, I'm
ready and showcase all the guys around.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
That's gonna be fun.

Speaker 7 (36:08):
Camera.

Speaker 6 (36:09):
Welcome back to Next Up as we wrap up the
first half of this segment. First half in this segment
of this show, if you new to the station, new
to the show, we'll appreciate you. You can follow the
show at Sports Talk seven ninety follow the station, listen
to us if you missed the first hour of Sports
seven ninety dot com, or use the free iHeartRadio app
HI Stay in Northfleet. That's me Chris Gordy him. We

(36:31):
just heard from Jonathan m Alexander jo in the letter
m Alexander is where you find his work at the
Houston Chronicle covering the Texans, and Jonathan up on the
Chronicle site has his ten predictions for twenty twenty four.
Don't want to spoil all of them, but if you
want to hear that interview in its entirety, go to
Sports seven and nine dot com or the free app.

(36:54):
At the conclusion of this program, we'll take you up
until noon. We did not ask Jonathan Gordy just for
the sake time. Breaking news this morning. If you had
not heard this as of about oh three hours ago, now,
Ian Rappaport of the NFL Network informs us that the
Texans and backup quarterback Davis Mills have agreed on a

(37:18):
one year contract extension worth five million dollars in new money.
Sources say there are also incentives based on playing time.
Davis Mills is now under contract through the twenty twenty
five season and Rappaport ends with strong backup QB money.

(37:38):
So I think there are a few things here for
me before I come to your Gordy. One.

Speaker 1 (37:42):
Congratulations to Davis.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (37:44):
It is clear he was quarterback to last year. I
don't know what the hell the mec on then when
thinking about whting Case keen him out there. But I'm
not gonna get into that. Y'all know how I feel
about that. I can get a Dub Dub. Unfortunately, Case
won't be with them this season. I do wish him
the very best in his recovery. I like the guy,
really do. Davis Mills is a backup in this league now.

(38:05):
I have not done the contract in terms of where
his backup money ranks to the rest of the backups.
Maybe by an eleven o'clock sometime I'll get to that.
But I remember you and I going back and forth.
This is before they drafted CJ. Gordon and I said, Look,
Caserio's first ever draft selection as a GM was Davis
Mills in the third round. We understand he was going

(38:28):
to give Davis every reasonable chance that he could to
be a hit and if nothing else, put him in
position to be perhaps trade fodder or a really good backup.

Speaker 1 (38:41):
The latter has happened. Davis is a backup.

Speaker 6 (38:44):
Do I have confidence that they can put Davis Mills
in for two games if CJ. Stroud isn't able to go. Yes,
As was the case last year when Case Keena went
in there, case was awful. Go look at the numbers,
watch the tape. He wasn't playing great. Go look at
this year's Preseasonday. Clearly Davis Mills has gotten better. He

(39:05):
has earned the quarterback two spot. I'm not saying he's
the best backup in the league. I'm saying that I
think with the talent on this offense, I think Davis
can go out there and get you a couple of dubs.
I think this is a prudent signing by Caserio reasonable
money for his first ever draft selection. I don't think
there's a surprise here. He was scheduled to be a
free agent in twenty twenty five. Yeah, that's the thing.

Speaker 8 (39:27):
It was a third rump pick, so you get the
four years, and so this was going to be his
last year, so they tack on another year, get him
to stick around for one more year five million, and
you know they liked him. You know, I was reading
Aaron Wilson's article up at sports seven ninety dot com,
and you know Demiko's quote, Davis did a really nice
job throughout the preseason, commanding the offense, really efficient the

(39:47):
passing game like what Davis.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
Did, So you know they're fans of him.

Speaker 8 (39:51):
Obviously, Caserra's a little bit attached to him because he
was his draft pick. But you know, it's interesting in
this I was just looking at numbers. This was backup
quarterback money last year. Jacoby Bursette with the Commanders made
eight million, Mitchell Trubisky with the Steelers made eight million,
Taylor Heideke made seven million, Andy Dalton six million, Tyrod
Taylor five million. So that kind of puts you he's

(40:11):
somewhere between five to ten in backup quarterback.

Speaker 6 (40:15):
Top half of the league money. I don't have a
problem with that. Clearly, Cassario and the guys can afford it.
Hits the cap next year, CAP's gonna go. I mean,
it's not that big a deal. But Joe Flacco this
year it's getting four and a half million from the Colts.

Speaker 1 (40:26):
It's fine. Is he's not you know?

Speaker 6 (40:30):
And again Ian Rappaport meals is now in the contract
through twenty twenty five. Ian Rappaport's opinion strong backup QB.
That's what the man wrote. That's him fodding today. That's
what the man rode. I don't believe that he's he says,
not one of the strongest. No, no, no, that's not
what he's saying. He said the money was strong. He

(40:51):
said that strong quarterback backup money. All right, let's wrap
up this segment, shall we, g Man, let's go west side.
Joe get it here, man, let's wrap up one.

Speaker 7 (41:01):
What's up, guys, Hey man, just calling in and give
you my concern man about week one up against the
coach Man Strikings, a pretty good coach and what he's
done against anybody was to show the ability to run
the ball.

Speaker 4 (41:15):
Well, we're winning out and we got past Rush.

Speaker 7 (41:17):
We got guys that can get out the quarterback up
fielding certain situations. But what about the when they played
against mobile quarterbacks like Lamar, which was our concern going
into last season, or in the playoffs. What were before
we went to the playoffs and things like that. Man,
and we showed inability to not be able to stop

(41:38):
a backup. I mean, I'm sorry, okay, uh show showed
ability not to be able to stop a mobile quarterback
or a dual threat quarterback.

Speaker 14 (41:49):
And that's my concern.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
Man.

Speaker 14 (41:50):
What would Domico do to contain or as we go, Riches.

Speaker 4 (41:56):
Yeah, and I go hang up and listen.

Speaker 1 (41:58):
Man, appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (41:58):
West side, Joe, we will could tenure the Texans conversation
on the other side containing Anthony Richardson is going to
be a tall task. Tomko said as much on Monday.
This is the first time the Texans will be facing
Anthony Richardson and Jonathan Taylor at the same time. Let
me not put any disrespect on Michael Pittman Junior's name.

(42:19):
He got a robust contract in the offseason. Michael Pittman Jr.
Is a legit wide receiver one a international football league.
So when you add it all together, let's see what
they have there. There are other contracts that have been
signed around the NFL that will have some impact on
some Texans and we will go from there. Speaking of
performances and contracts, have you heard about the new Draft

(42:42):
Kings Pick six out? Well?

Speaker 1 (42:44):

Speaker 6 (42:44):

Speaker 4 (44:17):

Let's see what's next next next.

Speaker 6 (44:31):
Let's kick the second half off right live from the
Galleria area, West Loops South to be precise for another
fifty eight minutes. This is next up here on Sports
Talk seven ninety You're home for Houston Sports. Thanks to
everybody listening to us in your automobile that have us
preset number one. We greatly appreciate it. Show has been
kicking ass and taking names, and we couldn't do it
without you. Very grateful for the good folks here at

(44:53):
our heart and more importantly, those within the sounds of
our voice or the sound of our voice is I'll
get that right at one of these points. That's Chris
Gordy over there. Stan Fleet here. Missed the first hour
of the show, Go to Sports seven ninety dot com
or use the free iHeart app at the conclusion of
this program. Connor demon Government, you can hit him up
on social he's over there as well. The game is

(45:13):
all here as we continue talking Texans, and we will
get to Astros probably in the next segment or two.
As Dana Brown dropped by the Sean Salisbury Show for
his weekly and Astro is back in action tonight Game
two in Cincinnati. We are on Kyle Tucker watch. Dana
Brown was asked when we will see Kyle Tucker. We

(45:34):
also need to brag on some folks from an ASTRO standpoint, However,
I want to continue Gordy for now discussing the Houston
Texans because they're still more meat on that bone. If
you miss how I started the ten o'clock hour, my
comment is very simple. My thoughts are very reasonable. I
feel love to meet Gooh. I do cheer for that

(45:58):
brother more than y'all know. But y'all know, I'm not
a fan of anyone. I'm as objective as it comes.
I think that's the best way for me to do
this job. Objectivity. Do I like some players and coaches
and teams more than others? Absolutely? However, the book is out,

(46:20):
meaning we have a two game sample size. Dimico's Texans
with time to prepare in their first season with a
rookie quarterback at that time zero and two, going into
Week one last year and coming out of the Bay
Week going to Carolina. I want to see how they look?
How do they look when they go on the road

(46:40):
in that environment again, same environment they went in in
Week eighteen and got the job done with a healthier
team with more time to prepare, with anybody else in
the league other than the Chicago Bears, how would they
play on the road where CJ. Stride has not played
his best ball? How will it look? I can't wait

(47:01):
to see. Am I picking the Texas to win? Your
damn right, Gordy? The I mentioned in our one ESPN
bet is just one of the betting houses that I
keep my eye on. They have now taken the spread
up to three points now it opened at two and
a half, it got down to two. It is now
up to three. So the money's doing some quirky stuff

(47:22):
going into Week one. I want as I come to you,
g Man, I want to add this as well, and
then I want to pivot to a guy that I
will certainly have my eyes on as we get into
this Coast game. I remind you this the first time
that the Texans are opening the season.

Speaker 1 (47:37):
At Lucas Or. And the weird quirk. I was looking
back to the history.

Speaker 8 (47:42):
They've played the Colts three or four times in Week one,
every time I'm spending Houston.

Speaker 1 (47:47):
Yeah, do you know the Coats have.

Speaker 6 (47:49):
Now they have not won a Week one game in
ten seasons, the longest current streak in the NFL the Colts.
The Coats do not win in Week one for a decade. Wow, Tomiko,
let's go get something done. So I'm believing, hoping, and
praying that with all this time and a healthy offensive
line in the additions in the offseason, I am believing

(48:11):
and holding Demko and his Texans accountable, they should be
playing when we get through all the highlights. By the
time we get to the end of Week one, which
starts tomorrow, Domiko's Texans, especially on offense, should look as
good as anybody else in the league, and that's including
Kansas City. I didn't say better, I said as good.

(48:33):
So I come to you, Gordon, before we get to
a certain Texans player that's been in the media here recently.
We talked about in the previous segment we got Davis
Mills and his contract. We discussed that just your outlook
on the Colts game going into Week one, injury reports
should come out today Texans taking the practice field now
or within a matter of minutes. As you continue to

(48:54):
think about the Colts, Gordon, what comes to mind?

Speaker 8 (48:57):
I'm hung up on that statu Yeah, it's been twenty
thirteen to say, well in a Week one game, that's
that's wild. Of course, we had the twenty twenty two
Lovey Smith Special where you know we tied it overtime.

Speaker 6 (49:07):
Thank you, love He didn't have the balls to thank
you for the win. Did you write your email to
love it? You should thank that man for allowing us
to do that. Man beat didn't he beat the one
a game he wasn't supposed to win? Hints us thanking
him for c J Strown had the Texans had the
number one pick. I still believe they would have taken CJ.

(49:28):
I mean taking CJ. Taking Bryce.

Speaker 8 (49:29):
That man beat the Colts thirty two to thirty one,
thank you, and took the Texans out of the number
one pick. And yeah, they probably would have taken Bryce
Young and you mistake, well, we might be having that
success with Young CJ.

Speaker 1 (49:41):
Stroud, wud Rice Young, CJ. Stroud, I will hear none
of it.

Speaker 8 (49:47):
I would have believed that Gerard Johnson and this whole
statue and they would have gotten the same production.

Speaker 6 (49:55):
Oh you don't believe that, No you no, no, no,
stop right there now we're gonna right. We hadn't done
in a few days. You do not believe if Bryce
Young had come here he would have had the U
CJ had last year.

Speaker 1 (50:06):
You don't believe that?

Speaker 6 (50:08):
Is it? I can make argument, maybe I could make
it up. I don't think you believe it would have happened.

Speaker 8 (50:12):
I like Bryce. I mean Brice was a phenomenal cal
college player. I've heard so was Tebow. I've heard several
people say he's gonna make that leap this year with
the with the offensive mighty head coach. You got the
most out of Gino Smith got the most out of
Baker Mayfield and Tampa.

Speaker 6 (50:25):
Did you see the coach of South Carolina had last year?
He had O g's everywhere in the building.

Speaker 8 (50:30):
Yeah, but guys who it passed about by Dave canallis
is what like early forties Dave canw guy the young
guy all Right, So I.

Speaker 6 (50:41):
Expect the Texans to be largely uh and I don't
want to say that. I think eventually this offense will
be why the Texans win. It's an offensive game. The
rules are catered to such. CJ has clearly shown it.
He's proficient. Some people are saying sophomore slump, I think,
and I mentioned it yesterday speaking of DraftKings. CJ Stroud
has the second best MVP odds depending on where you look,

(51:05):
and we'll get into that maybe in the next segment.
Some people continue to be I love the term bullish
on the Texans. Some people think the Texans will stub
their toad this year.

Speaker 8 (51:15):
Well, the only way, but like with all this talent around,
the only way he could sophomore slump in my opinion
is that the interception total goes up and it might
starts making some bad reads and you know, oh, I
didn't see the safety there. And he's got two interceptions
this week and then three the next one or pick
six the next week. I think that's that's the definition
of a slump. Like I can't just see his touchdown

(51:38):
totals drastically falling unless you know, they get in the
red zone and they decide, let's hand it off to
Joe Mixon. And so we look back this week and
we go, oh, CJ through for two hundred and twenty yards,
one interception, no touchdowns.

Speaker 6 (51:51):
You know, maybe that is defined as a slump, but
I think the interceptions could go up. The touchdown interception
ratio may not be historic as it was last year,
the touchdown numbers are going to go up. At the
end of the day. What I care about is when
c J. Stroud walks off the field, do the Texans
have more doves than they did, or have more points

(52:14):
than the other team and as many or more wins
as they had a year ago. That's ultimately what we
all will judge this by.

Speaker 12 (52:21):
C J.

Speaker 6 (52:22):
Stroud did not play his best ball on the road.
He had some good moments. Cincinnati comes to mind. Give
me another good row game, though the Indianapolis game at
the end of the year. I'm trying to think of
some Oh at Jacksonville week three, some of his game's cool.

Speaker 1 (52:36):
I get it.

Speaker 6 (52:36):
He'd have moments where he was good on the road,
but there was some stinkers in there. Carolina Baltimore's Atlanta
Jets Jets game where he got his head dribbled off
the turf there at MetLife Stadium. So there's that piece.
Angles was a good win. Bengals was an excellent win.
I'll take that. What Joe Burrow was healthy at the time,

(52:58):
so it would take that. I don't want to start
this segment, but let's do this. I will tease the
segment and we'll go in on the other side. Give
me some stats, Texans. You have the Texans winning Week one.
Who will lead this team in receiving in Week one? Going,

(53:20):
I mean, take your pick. I think it's gonna I
think it's gonna fluctuate week by week. Like I could
go Nico Collins this week. I think it's Tagdell the
week after, I think it's Stefan Digson. Like I think
they're gonna trade off. I don't think you're gonna have like.

Speaker 8 (53:34):
I don't think it's gonna be digs, digs, digs, digs,
you know what I mean. Like, I think they've got
so many talented guys, it's gonna fluctuate.

Speaker 6 (53:41):
So Gus Bradley is the DC at the Cults, he
saw CJ for both games last year. Look at those quarters, though,
who do you trust for the Colts? Well, this one
I'm saying is like Gus Bradley has got to come
in here with a plan. What do we believe the
point and will be well if he puts tho his
focus on digs. You know, it's the National Football League.

(54:05):
You can take any one player out of the game
if you really wanted to. What I think they're going
to do. I think they're going to probably I think
they're probably going to shade Nico. I think they're probably
shade Nico. And you give step On some yardage and

(54:29):
you don't allow explosives by Tank Dale and you make
Dalton Schultz and Joe Mixon and CJ being precise beat you.

Speaker 1 (54:36):
That's what I'm guessing the game plan will be.

Speaker 6 (54:39):
But they've got to take Nico out of I think
they think Nico is the one that's the X factor
because of his size and what he's already proven he
can do against us. Let's try and get Nico out
of this and make as long as Tank doesn't get
the home run ball, we can live with some Dinkin
and Duncan by Tank and Steph, That's what I'm guessing

(54:59):
they do. I want to talk more. Is Stefan Diggs
is in the news. He had something to say to
a reputable publication. Let's discuss what Steph Diggs means to
this team and where his head space is going into
the twenty fourth season. Next up, Fleet Gordon Legendary, KB
and me.

Speaker 4 (55:15):
We are stat north Fleet's and Chris Gordy. This is
next Tough on Sports Sunk seven ninety.

Speaker 9 (55:27):
Yeah, really excited about added Stephan to our team. I mean,
you talk about his influence, it's not just his influence
on the receivers, it's just his influence on our entire team.
Like his competitive spirit, what he brings each and every day,
like it lights to fire in our entire team.

Speaker 1 (55:43):
So I'm very.

Speaker 9 (55:45):
Pleased with what he's done, the energy that he brings,
and I'm excited to see him right go do it
in a regular season. But he's been he's been a
leader for us since the day he stepped on the field,
and I'm very excited to see him continue to grow,
continue him, continue to see him build, you know, even
better chemistry with his teammates.

Speaker 6 (56:06):
Welcome back in the next up, Stay in Northfleet, Gordy.
That was Demico Ryance speaking quite glowingly about how Stepon
Diggs has translated into the Texans culture and how we
swarm around here in the seven one, three, two eight one.

Speaker 4 (56:23):
I am.

Speaker 6 (56:25):
I like the Stefon Diggs trade. It made all the
sense in the world. I think Stefon Diggs and we
all question, damn you converted all of that money into
a one year proven deal.

Speaker 1 (56:38):
Okay.

Speaker 6 (56:39):
I think Stepan Diggs is motivated and every so often
a team will get one of these guys, Gordy, and
they're just a little bit different. Some people say they're ornery,
some people say they're combative, some people say they are
diva ish. I can't stand that term as relates to
male athletes, but it's a term that they use in

(57:00):
in sports. Lord Stefan Diggs is a is a complex guy,
very emotional. Nonetheless, he is one of the seven captains
on this team. As the captains were unveiled yesterday. Stefan
Diggs is in the news, Gordon because he you may
have seen this. He was interviewed by GQ Sports as

(57:22):
in GQ Magazine Sports Division and the thing that got
my attention to quote near a few of them here
that I want to pass through and get what you
guys think. Phone lines open, you want to talk some
Texans seven one, three, two two five seven ninety. I
see your biscuit. You'll be next up. Let me get
this quote out, Stefan Diggs with GQ. Last year, I

(57:42):
was in the worst space. Excuse me. Last year I
was in the worst mental space I've been in since
I've been in the league. So that's when things had
to start shaking out, meaning that's when I had to
do something about it. But whose fault is that?

Speaker 3 (57:55):
Is that?

Speaker 6 (57:55):
His fault is that Buffalo's fault. He later adds both
of Vikings and the Bills didn't want to get rid
of me. That was my decision to leave, says Stefon Diggs.
When you hear that, Gordion, I see obviously you have
reaction expand on.

Speaker 1 (58:11):
That for it to death. I mean, that's he's basically saying,
like I'm I'm the problem.

Speaker 6 (58:17):
It's me so because I want to leave an abusive relationship,
I'm the problem. I'm just using that as an analogy
for his situation. He didn't say it, so he didn't.
I'm using I'm seeing Buffalo. I mean buffalo. People are
going off dysfunctional one. This is the bills, guys, they said.
Savon Digk's comments today show he was the problem, putting

(58:37):
himself before the team warth end. He didn't want it
to first so the offense could operate more cohesively as
a unit.

Speaker 8 (58:43):
He wanted to be force fed. In his work mind,
he thinks that is what's best for team success. Can
I pause there? The best player should be force fed.
He's the best player outside of the quarterback. Who's an
MVP candidate every year. He's a Josh Allen. I remember
a playoff he.

Speaker 6 (59:00):
Ain't versus the Texans, if memory serves, and Josh Shallen
was so nervous he was damn throwing the ball, about
to get hit, tossing the ball into the stands while
he was running the football. Josh Shallen became an MVP
candidate when Stefan Digg showed up.

Speaker 8 (59:14):
That's a true statement, that's factual. Yeah, but I think
there's some element. This isn't just one incident. I mean,
it's happened in Minnesota, it's happened in Buffalo, so you
keep saying it happened in both instances. He was also
voted team captain by his peers, and to a man,
they all say, no one works harder than Steph Diggs. Right,
But eventually the other stuff, where's thin.

Speaker 1 (59:36):
Or why did he? Maybe he's saying he wants out When.

Speaker 8 (59:38):
A team is willing to eat thirty two million to
say bye bye to you like it's it's they're telling.

Speaker 1 (59:45):
You right that, why do you take it?

Speaker 6 (59:46):
To move on from him? No, he needed to move
on from them. The Bills have not gotten any farther. Granted,
we're about to find out.

Speaker 1 (59:53):
We'll see.

Speaker 6 (59:53):
And by the way, go look at some comments from
Gabe Davis. They're otherwise receivering in Buffalo. Gave Davis corroborate
some of the things that step fun saying. Josh Allen
is a prima donna too. Why doesn't Josh Allen get
some of the smoke. Josh has a quarterback, so what
does that mean he's.

Speaker 8 (01:00:10):
He's a Bover pro He's never gonna say get me
the ball more, No, he always touches.

Speaker 6 (01:00:13):
What he's saying is maybe Josh Allen wanted to do
some things that were comfortable for Josh that wasn't best
suited for what these dudes.

Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
Wanted to do.

Speaker 8 (01:00:21):
I just look at I mean, you look at the
Chiefs model. I mean they have had wide receivers come
and go, and they had one dude, for real, for real,
come and go. One dude.

Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
Tyreek's the best player they've had coming go with that.

Speaker 8 (01:00:31):
What I'm saying, they've had guys come and go and
last year me Cole Hardman, Justin Watson, Rishi right, none
of those Kelsey. I mean, they're getting it. They're getting
it done, and those guys like you have to get
me the ball.

Speaker 6 (01:00:43):
Tyreek said, the reason I left is because y'all disrespected
what my abilities were.

Speaker 8 (01:00:48):
Tyreek wanted join zero Rings. Since you left all his money,
they income tax free in Florida.

Speaker 6 (01:00:55):
Tyreek's doing just fine and he's in the posting. Just so,
just because there's a separation doesn't mean somebody had to
get the best of the other person. Sometimes it's just
time to.

Speaker 8 (01:01:05):
Go say it would just shock you if by the
end of the year or by week thirteen, yes there's
an issue with Yes dig it would shock me at
and he's getting into a c It would bob, it
would shock me.

Speaker 6 (01:01:17):
I shouldn't say I wouldn't shock it would shock me.
This Texas culture headed by Demico, Ryan C. J. Stride,
Will Anderson Jr. And others, this culture is differently. Everybody
said Randy Moss was a problem child. Random Moss got
to New England, they went on a historic run. We've
seen New England get other problem guys. Wasn't a problem.

(01:01:41):
I'm just saying we've said it all right. Let me
get to some of these other cults for I get
the biscuit. Also in this GQ, what does he say,
I pay real close attention This bleep is not a
game to me, meaning he pays attention to what other
people say about him. I didn't forget how to FN

(01:02:02):
play football, meaning to drop off from statistically from the
first half of the season. They change offensive coordinators. They
elevate or bring in Joe Brady to the OC position
and he changes the offense. Stefan Diggs numbers change every year.
You train all year round for seventeen games. That's why
people can't tell me how to react on the sideline.

(01:02:22):
And he's referring to in other words, going to it. Yeah,
I'm gonna show some emotion. I work my ASDs on
to getting this end zone to be out here getting
a thousand yards a year when we aren't winning games,
and I put in all this work, and I know
I'm one about better players.

Speaker 1 (01:02:37):
Yeah, I'm earning the right to voice my opinion. I
don't have a problem with that. I don't personally.

Speaker 6 (01:02:44):
Look, man, you're in a one year deal. Just go
ball out this year. A couple other quotes, and we'll
get out of here. I didn't know one star in
any sport that doesn't want the ball. Oh, I see
that's two fine print I can't read. I don't know
one star in any sport that doesn't want the ball.
If you aren't getting the ball, and it's not a problem,

(01:03:04):
you ain't no competitor.

Speaker 8 (01:03:06):
Okay, but what if flipp at the other side, what's
the defense's double team again? They're brackening you and the
other guys are open. I'm sorry, Nico Collins is gonna
get the ball.

Speaker 6 (01:03:14):
What he's saying is, And we've seen how many times
has Davonte Yadam has been double still gets the ball?
How many times has aj Brown been double? There are
times he still gets the ball. There are some dudes
that are uber talented, and the circumstances dictate. It's third
and seven and if we don't get a first down here,
we're gonna lose this game. Are you gonna go down

(01:03:36):
with your best player? Steph Diggs is saying I'm one
of the best, and I agree with him. I'm one
of the top fifteen receivers in this league. I'm agree
with that.

Speaker 8 (01:03:46):
Yeah, get I'm also gonna agree that there are other
awesome talented dudes on this roster. Nico Collins just got
paid big money, and Nico's not better than him. Tank
Dell just said an all of those dudes are better
than him. They're pretty damn good, though, And you're a
double team. I ain't throwing you away. I might pick
if I throw to you. It depends on the guy's open.
It depends on the circumstance. And that's why the E A. M. Stefan.

(01:04:09):
Hopefully you'll learn that word while you're here. Tomiko does
a good job of instilling it, so I'll see if
he learns.

Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
While he say you.

Speaker 6 (01:04:14):
Believe Stefan's a selfish player, I'm listening. This is a
little bit of him asking a question. Do you believe
Stefan Die's selfish player?

Speaker 10 (01:04:20):
For one?

Speaker 6 (01:04:21):
Shame on me and you're question this is a yes
or no scenario. Sense, do you believe Stefon Diggs is
a selfish player?

Speaker 8 (01:04:27):
The defense rest Look at the evidence in Minnesota, look
at the evidence in Buffalo.

Speaker 6 (01:04:31):
I don't think he's a selfish player. I've seen selfish guys.
I said this when they signed Stepan. Two things could
be right. He wants to win and he's also wants
his numb I think this is every competitive player. Michael
Jordan is one of the selfish athletes they ever walked
to the earth. And he will tell you that that's
kind of how you become Michael Jordan. But he passed
the Scottie Pippen when he needed to. He you know,

(01:04:51):
got his teammates.

Speaker 11 (01:04:52):
Of all.

Speaker 6 (01:04:52):
Steph didn't say no other receiver should touch the ball.
He's saying, if we aren't winning and scoring points and
I'm not getting touches the problem.

Speaker 8 (01:05:00):
There are moments in Buffalo where other guys were scoring points,
but he was frustrated because he wasn't getting them more.

Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
No, that's what you want to believe. Nobody is saying that.

Speaker 6 (01:05:08):
We talked to somebody from Buffalo in the media when
the deal was done, and they said, under no circumstances
do people that cover the.

Speaker 1 (01:05:14):
Team feel that Stepan is a selfish player? Last one?

Speaker 6 (01:05:17):
Then I come to your Biscuit. We'll wrap up this segment.
Quote from Steph fonn push me in the corner. I'm
gonna show you my best bleep. I'm a person that
enjoys being doubted. I enjoyed proving people wrong, but also
I enjoyed doing it for myself. Everything I say I
am I am, meaning how productive he is on the

(01:05:38):
field as a player. I'm staying true to it. And
every time I prove myself right, everybody disappears, meaning the haters.

Speaker 1 (01:05:47):
I like when they get quiet, meaning when he balls out.

Speaker 6 (01:05:51):
I'm excited as hell for Steph Diggs and what he
can do in this offense in twenty twenty four, Biscuit,
let's wrap up this segment. Give me about thirty seconds or.

Speaker 14 (01:05:59):
Less, staying this is the thing that Gordy doesn't recognize
and you talked about it. Denis Rodman with the spurs
was a problem. They shift into those balls and the
three p man. The problem is Staying. He didn't under
and I'm just interpreted staying. He had a problem with

(01:06:21):
Josh Allen not getting in the ball when he felt
he was open, not when he was covered, but when
he was open. And he felt like, hey, man, I'm open.
Why I'm the top dude, Why do you not come
to me first? Why you're not looking my way first.
I'm the one that made you what you are.

Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
That's what he's saying.

Speaker 14 (01:06:38):
And and and sometimes you have to be selfish. Kobe Bryant,
Michael Jordan, you said it, staying. All the great athletes
are selfish to a certain extent, as long as they
don't get in the way with the team winning. And
I think Stephan was trying to win. He felt coming
to me was.

Speaker 12 (01:06:53):
The best way to win.

Speaker 6 (01:06:54):
I appreciate your biscuit and he was wealth against it.
It's real simple for me. And like the team voted
him captain in three different teams. The guys in the
locker room always tell you the truth, meaning over the
course of time, the truth will unfold. Stefan Diggs is

(01:07:15):
one of those guys.

Speaker 1 (01:07:16):
He's an alpha.

Speaker 8 (01:07:17):
Yeah right now, right now, it's all great, Right now,
it's all such rainbows. Let's find out when we get
in the trenches. He's been X amount of like he's
been in the postseason. I'm not worried about Stefan Diggs
when things get tight, I'm not worried about him.

Speaker 1 (01:07:32):
I'm just not And I think CJ and Demico have
built the hamlet. Get excited.

Speaker 8 (01:07:37):
It's a one year deal, so he does become diverse,
you can move on and if he's a baller, which
he will be, maybe you want to bring Bako.

Speaker 6 (01:07:44):
It's becoming a one to two. So we'll see if
Nico can replicate what he did a year ago. All right,
let's wrap up. Dana Brown dropped by the Sean Salisbury's
show nine thirty this morning. I want to hear what
Dana Brown had to say as the Astros are back
in action tonight right here on seven ninety Home with.

Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
The Stros.

Speaker 4 (01:08:04):
Stadtor Fleet.

Speaker 1 (01:08:05):
Chris Gordy.

Speaker 4 (01:08:07):
Today this next time on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
Oh what we got now?

Speaker 6 (01:08:14):
About twenty six minutes from now, you will hear the
voices of Matt Thomas and Rosviriel. The Matt Thomas Show
will take you from noon to three here on Sports
Talk seven ninety. Thanks for everybody continuing to make us
your home for Houston sports. A ton of Texans commentary
to start the show. We would be remissed if we
did not remind you that you can hear the Astros
in action that'll happen during the A team Astros Game

(01:08:37):
two versus the Reds, a three game series there in Cincinnati.
As the Astros were off yesterday. We'll go to the
Astros on deck show here at seven ninety at four thirty.
Shortly after five thirty, we'll get first pitch. I have
not seen who's up to night, Gordion, I have not
seen who's on the mount. Sorry, I was getting the
table set a little distracted there. Nonetheless, Astros Smith Hurrighetty's

(01:09:01):
on the bump.

Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
Cool.

Speaker 6 (01:09:02):
Astros find themselves some six and a half games most
of this season ahead of Seattle. Seattle loses a walk
off again last night. Astros six and a half in
the Al West. Bad for those fans you really like
the I mean, do you feel bad for those guys,
they've they've had to go through it, and now they're
on a four game losing street and that's gives a dame.

(01:09:26):
I mean, I'll give them this.

Speaker 8 (01:09:28):
When we went there a couple of years ago for
the playoff series, men, those fans are fired up.

Speaker 15 (01:09:33):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (01:09:33):
They do some weird things out there that they eat,
like fried crickets. They had at like the concessions, the
Fried crickets, but I don't know like they were they
were talking.

Speaker 1 (01:09:43):
Bleep and booing el tube and Cheetah and all this.

Speaker 8 (01:09:46):
Let's start to feel bad for him because I mean,
they they they deserve some good baseball. By the way,
did you see the attendants last night at Oakland No?
Three thy nine hundred m? Are they counting concession workers?
The aon 're gonna get counted? Spencer Irrigeddy going up
against Nick Martinez. Nick Martinez six and six on the year.

(01:10:08):
For those that keep track of wins and losses, e
L three seven eight better than Spencer Araghatty whip one
point one three twenty four to play. They've got I
think it's twenty four left, twenty four games.

Speaker 6 (01:10:18):
Astros seventy five and sixty three, So that's one thirty eight,
one sixty two Virginia Mans one sixty two. As we
go to the calculator, one sixty two minus one thirty eight,
twenty four games left to go.

Speaker 1 (01:10:31):
Okay, all right, so that's that.

Speaker 12 (01:10:34):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (01:10:34):
Dana Brown dropped by the Shawn Salisbury Show for his
weekly hit this morning. We will take calls as well.
Seven one three, two, one two, five, seven ninety. You
want to get in on the Astros And they've got
this thing rolling Astros?

Speaker 1 (01:10:46):
What is that seven?

Speaker 6 (01:10:47):
That's twelve games above five hundred and they are on
pace to do something that hadn't been done in Major
League Baseball in decades given where they were, and this
is the first for the Astros, and we will see
can they finish the drill? Do they have enough left
in the proverbial tank to not only get in the

(01:11:10):
Al West?

Speaker 1 (01:11:10):
Gordy?

Speaker 6 (01:11:11):
But as we go over here at checks standings, have
we closed in on Cleveland?

Speaker 10 (01:11:15):
Now?

Speaker 6 (01:11:15):
I find myself watching Cleveland Guardian scores. What's going on
with Cleveland? Cleveland? They're on a three game win streak.
They got their eightieth win last night, I do believe.
So the Astros remain five games behind Cleveland. I'm trying
to close in on that second spot in the al.
All right, let's go while Dana Brown. Let's ask Dana Brown,

(01:11:36):
we're gonna give you your flowers tip of the cap.

Speaker 1 (01:11:38):
Good on you.

Speaker 6 (01:11:39):
You told us be patient. Here are the strolls right
where you say there would they would be, Daniel Brown,
take a bow.

Speaker 11 (01:11:46):
Sir, Well the surge.

Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
I probably wouldn't have guessed, like to beat six and
a half up to get that big of a serge.

Speaker 11 (01:11:52):
I sell all along that when we were ten games back,
remembering and when I was in Atlanta, we were ten backs,
we ran down the match and I knew that this
club was a really good club, and so I didn't panic,
and I felt like, look, let's stay focused. We have
a good team, and let's get this done. And I
give Joe and his staff credit, you know, for keeping

(01:12:15):
the boys focused.

Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
And you know, I think just having that familiar face
down there with Joe that really helped, because the guys
were used to winning. Maybe if there was someone that
didn't work with these guys before, they may have panicked
and got the guys to panic a little bit. But
having a familiar face in Joe and his leadership has
really helped his team out.

Speaker 6 (01:12:39):
We also need to show Joe Spatta appropriate level of respect.
We may not agree with all of his moves. I
think he's learning on the job, very very concerned off
the top, but what he has done given the injuries
to a little bit of everybody we know about the
pitching woes, obviously Kyle Tucker, who will talk about here
in just a second, and then Alex Bregman, when that's

(01:13:02):
what I'm looking for, Gordon, I don't think we will
see or should see Alex Bregman the remainder of this
Cincinnati series, nor should we see Kyle Tucker the remainder
of the Cincinnati series. That's me talking, what are you
what are you looking for? When the lineup comes out
this afternoon.

Speaker 8 (01:13:21):
Yeah, they're they're I mean again, he said three to
five days on Kyle Tucker, so in fact, we should
play the injury stuff. But he said three to five
days for Kyle Tucker, So originally it said maybe you
know they he's gonna be with him on the Cincinnati series.
The interesting part too, is they're not going to give
him a rehab start, and you know he's just gonna

(01:13:42):
jump back into it. But yeah, I mean again, the
vibe I get with Bregman is if they had to
play them tonight, they could, but they're kind of building
up this lead in the aos that they almost feel
like it's a luxury if they don't have to play.

Speaker 6 (01:13:53):
You referenced Dana Brown on Talk Let's do that. Let's
go with Dana Brown four to start.

Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
So I think we have a chance to see Kyle
Tucker than the next five days. I think he's really close.
It could be three days, it could be four days.
I think it's definitely within the next five days. He's
right there at the brink of coming back. I'm so
thrilled to get Kyle Tucker back. You know, Kyle Tucker
is a winning player, and we know what kind of
grind he go through and is at bats. We know

(01:14:19):
what his power is, we know what the stolen bases are.
We know that this guy can throw runners out from
right field, the touch balls in the gap. We're fired
up to get Kyle Tucker back, absolutely fired up. So
and this is a good time to get him back. Yeah,
the team held it together. You know, we played very
good baseball without Kyle Tucker. And that's what good teams do.
They step up. They do the dude, and I remember

(01:14:43):
when I was in Atlanta, we lost Akuna and we
end up winning the World Series. Other guys stepped up,
and this club really stepped up the big thing by stepping.

Speaker 6 (01:14:54):
Up for this Data Brown on the Shawn Salisbury Show.
We'll see, we'll Tuck be in. Will Bregnant be in
the lineup?

Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
Not sure?

Speaker 6 (01:15:03):
I do think it's commendable what this team has done
in the absence of those And let's not forget whatever
that dumpster train wreck, all dumpster fire train wreck, all
the things at that first base that George Spotted dealt
with early in the year that has since subsided some
of that first base jargons. So they have duck tape,
Bobby Penn, safety pin super glued. They found a way

(01:15:27):
to keep this thing on the rails. I just wonder
what's left. I maintained that I was I wasn't giving
up on them in terms of the postseason, and here
they are on the brink, and so now we're on
game watch how many games until they can go ahead
and solidify that space. Gordion, Kevin and Humble. I'm gonna
ask you the hole tight, I'll take you on the
other side, I know you want to get in Gordon

(01:15:47):
for the folks that are going over to men in
May Park over the weekend as the Arizona Diamondbacks are
in town representing the National League in the World Series
a year ago. Or you're going to a Texans watch party,
maybe going whatever your favorite college football team means. What
should they be driving angle?

Next up continues on your Apple TV. Listen to Sports
Talk seven ninety on any device with our free iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 16 (01:17:02):
I mean after, like I said, after however long when
you know originally you know, got hit, and however long
it was until you know we kind of saw it.
I've just basically just been rehabing and doing everything I
can to get back. So I've just been pretty hard
focused on my rehabit to get back playing as soon

(01:17:23):
as possible. So you know it's coming up soon and
you know, hopefully in like some days we can get
back off there.

Speaker 1 (01:17:28):
Take good pictures. Caster. That was right field of Kyle Tucker.
He can still speak.

Speaker 6 (01:17:33):
The first time we heard from him, that was, uh
believe that was going into Monday's game, or if either
going into Monday's game or the conclusion of Monday's game. Nonetheless,
Kyle Tucker right there from the horse's mouth on the
broken leg, and look, I respect what Dana Brown had
to say. Gordy, Hey, well, if you if you think

(01:17:55):
about the medicals and see it was it was a
bone bruise on the front of the shin. But the
break we couldn't see because of the swelling and see
it's possible to get bruising on the front of the bone,
but then to have a break on the back of
the bone.

Speaker 8 (01:18:08):
And then we learned later what happened though, I mean,
he told you what happened, Gordon. It was a bone bruise.
They did a scan of the front and they saw
bone berus. What they didn't realize was there was a
fracture on the back end.

Speaker 6 (01:18:20):
If that were the case, then how come they're just
now telling us that it was broken because they didn't
feel the need to come out and make a band.

Speaker 1 (01:18:27):
There's my issue.

Speaker 6 (01:18:28):
The fans that pay the bills over there have the
right to know, along with the TV networks. They have
a right to know what is going on with arguably
their best player, and he was playing as an MVP Candy.
When is he coming back? We deserve to know. Now,
I'm not going to get all into the hyperbole of
well just because we the rehab is very similar to

(01:18:51):
a deep bone bruise and a break. But they were
a hell being and adamant. They were refusive in that
it was not a break when they knew it was.
I just don't believe they like I don't trust that
they told us the true. It doesn't really matter. I
want Kyle Tucker back on the field. I don't think
it's going to be in this Cincinnati series. We're gonna

(01:19:14):
need this bunch down the stretch. We need Kyle Tucker
to play Tuck baseball in the postseason, get ready to
go for October.

Speaker 8 (01:19:22):
I thought it was very interesting too, Dana Brown's comments
that you know, Sean asked him, so no rehabs start
for him, and he said, we're getting so late in
the season here that like we have time for him
to go play final league games, like he's taking lives.
You just gonna jump back in there and figure it out.
If you go over for a game, first game back,

(01:19:43):
so be it. You're gonna have to work on your
time and get everything back here. It was well, time
to sit you down. We gotta go fair point by you,
Kevin and on. But wants to get in on Tuck's
injury and what we heard from Dana Brown.

Speaker 1 (01:19:53):
Good morning to you, Kevin, Good morning guys.

Speaker 10 (01:19:56):
Hey.

Speaker 5 (01:19:56):
I heard the interview also and he seemed pretty snappy
about it. I think the Astros are definitely going to
get fined, you know, because all this injury reporting, and
that's all based on Vegas and uh, you know, betting
and also general managers and uh, and put the Astros

(01:20:19):
in a different light of what they need and trying
to get guys when you know that Tuck is going
to be out for months as opposed for weeks. So uh,
I think they knew pretty pretty early that it was
broken and not just a bruise. And I just want
to know about how what kind of what kind of
punishment they'll get. I'm thinking that they're probably gonna lose

(01:20:42):
first or second round pick in the in the amateur draft.

Speaker 1 (01:20:46):
Thanks appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (01:20:47):
Kevin from Humble on if there will be any punitive
damages for the Astros, I don't suspect there will be.

Speaker 1 (01:20:54):
I can't tell you that.

Speaker 6 (01:20:55):
I'm up on what the MLB's injury reporting guidelines are
from team to team.

Speaker 12 (01:21:02):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (01:21:02):
Some people are chalking this up as a misdiagnosis. I
heard WEX and AC they had yesterday a pretty good
exchange for a segment or two in terms of you know,
what should have happened versus what is I'm kind of
past what should have I'm glad that the organization has acknowledged.
Hey listen, YO, So some people was it MAP practice?

(01:21:24):
Was Is there gonna be uh some type of punishment?
I don't think so. I think the MLB has to
be careful with how they come down on the Astros
because the optics that the astros could be picked on
for all the other things.

Speaker 8 (01:21:37):
So I don't think there'll be any punishment, nor should.
They're not gonna. I don't think there's anything wrong here.
They it was a bone bruise, and they found out
after the fact it was a it was it was
a fracture on the backside.

Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
But I mean like it.

Speaker 8 (01:21:51):
Teams don't like We're gonna hold the press conference this
afternoon to clarify.

Speaker 1 (01:21:56):
All this is. Teams make on the IL. That's all
you need to team. That's all you need to know.

Speaker 6 (01:22:00):
Teams in Major League Baseball make their training staff available
for questioning.

Speaker 8 (01:22:05):
A few that does happen. They've gone back and forth
on that. Chandler has said, your guy, like twenty something
teams don't. That's what the team has said. Chandler Rome
has refuted that by saying a lot of teams do.
So you can believe a team or you can believe
wrong but again he's saying, but again, it's this all
or nothing. Some several teams do, but Jordia the Lake.

Speaker 6 (01:22:26):
Just so, why does this team, which is what I
care about the most, why does this team I do
not tell us when an MVP candidate has us injury
this severe, we should probably know what's going on. And
I'm not mad at the people for asking the question. Now,
the rehab and all of that. Listen, we're getting that
is what it is, what underbridge at this point. So also, Gordon,

(01:22:47):
when I think this happened right as we were getting
off here yesterday, I want to show some love. Major
League Baseball announced that Spencer Aarraghetti has been named AL
Rookie of the Month August and Josh Hater has been
named AL August Reliever of the Month. That came out,
so I wanted to make sure I acknowledge that irrigating

(01:23:08):
on the bump again. Four point thirty right here, Astros
on deck, and that gets us in the first pitch
shortly after five thirty up in Cincinnati. I do believe
a hitter's ballpark. Gordon first pitch shortly after five forty.
All right, let's take one last phone call and we'll
wrap up for the day. Gentlemen, what say you, friend
of the station, friend of the show, Michael and the Heights?

Speaker 3 (01:23:28):
What up?

Speaker 10 (01:23:28):
Bro?

Speaker 15 (01:23:29):
Hey man, I'm calling the FBI. Davis Mills just stole
five million dollars.

Speaker 6 (01:23:35):
What do you mean he's only on contract? Because I
didn't have this at the time, I let you finish Michael.
Right now, Davis Mills sits behind Tyrod Taylor for the
second most backup money scheduled for twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (01:23:49):
That's what the money is right now. So that's what
it is.

Speaker 15 (01:23:52):
I'm hey, I'm kidding. Hey, that's just the position, right,
I mean the position even the backups, even the backups
make multimillion dollar I'm not a I don't pocket watch
like some people.

Speaker 12 (01:24:03):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 14 (01:24:04):
But hey, RCO.

Speaker 15 (01:24:07):
So the Texans last year, first game was Anthony richardson
the run pass option. Man, that we had a real
tough time because they kind of beat us down. You know,
they were up three touchdowns by the first quarter because hey,
we we did turn the ball over, you know, the
within the first like two minutes of the game. But yep,
how do you defend it? I mean, are you just

(01:24:27):
gonna have to spy Anthony Richardson or or what? And
one more thing, Guys, do you think Anthony Richardson makes
it to the whole season unscathed.

Speaker 12 (01:24:36):
I don't think he does.

Speaker 6 (01:24:37):
Appreciate Michael and the Heights. If it's me, the Coats
are one dimensional. If I'm Demko, I crowd the hell
out the box. Jalen Petrie might be the player of
the week defensive player of the week in the NFL.
I am not letting Jonathan Taylor rip off one hundred
and eighty eight yards and Anthony Richardson's not having two
rushing touchdowns. And I'm not talking about on some goal

(01:24:59):
line crap. I'm not giving him two rushing touchdowns in
the first half of football. I don't give a damn
if I got a lineup in the Bear's forty six defense.
I'm not letting you run the football down my throat.
I can't let you do that. Domiko must address the
run game. If I'm losing, I'm losing with Anthony Richmond
throwing the football.

Speaker 8 (01:25:17):
Another note change, Stikeen just said Josh Downs will not
practice today, but he's progressing well.

Speaker 1 (01:25:23):
Status for Sunday Store and decided.

Speaker 6 (01:25:25):
More Texans coaches talked to come tomorrow on next up,
stay locked right, here's Matt Thomas and Rossville Real come
your way. Astros back in action tonight. NFL season kicks
off tomorrow. Can't wait to do a deep dive on
that for Coladey Mcgovernor Chris Gordy staying Northfleet in all
of you, Yes, you, Houston, the number one city in
the country, will allow us to be your number one

(01:25:47):
home for Houston sports. We'll appreciate you. Enjoy your lunch,
God willing will do it again tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:25:51):
Y'all be well.
