The planned town known as Akon City is located in Senegal's M'bour Department and was created by the singer and businessman Akon. Akon originally revealed the project in 2018. In October 2022, Akon declared that the first phase of the city's construction will start in 2023 and be finished by 2028. Akon claimed that the film Black Panther served as inspiration for him. He describes Akon City as a "real-life Wakanda" that makes use of cutting-edge blockchain and cryptocurrency technology.
