Steve (00:00):
Should I go be a, fucking
ridiculous child and throw a huge
fit out there? Is that the advice
I should take? Why are you even
considering that? Like what?

Leif (00:14):
Because that's her natural reaction, apparently.

Steve (00:16):
Yes.

Leif (00:17):
But something else I want to throw off about the scene.
Ursula calls Casey
Kenny. She, like, looks over, says
and addresses her as Kenny.
Now, are they dropping some deep lore
about this character that she goes by KC
because her parents gave her a boy's name, or was

(00:38):
that just the best take they could get out of Tyra Banks?

Steve (00:45):
Did Tyra Banks create the deep lore
that she goes by KC because her parents
named her after, Ken Griffey Jr. Ken Griffey
Sr. Big fans. They're from Seatt.
Foreign.

Leif (01:05):
Sires and all. You scared of loving listeners out there,
you just tuned into the non judging breakfast pod, where
the coffee is strong, the waffles are fresh,
and the gossip is hotter than ever. My name is
Leif, and I'm your seasoned Gossip Girl veteran.

Steve (01:19):
And, I'm Steve, your newbie, your greenhorn, your.
I don't know, Leif. What am I now that we're,
you know, three seasons in?

Leif (01:29):
Steve, your cute little attempt at perestroika is
over. We're going back to the old way. Queens
hierarchy and no Brooklyn wannabes.

Steve (01:37):
Well, at least I'm not hanging out with my high school
friends. All right,
so here's the deal, folks. Leaf has been
watching Gossip Girl since it first aired, and I'm tuning
in for the very first time. And together, we're your dynamic
duo, bringing you all the drama, romance,
and sometimes questionable fashion choices

(01:58):
of this iconic 2007 series.

Leif (02:01):
That's right, grab your cocktails and your magnifying
glasses, because each week we're dissecting every
juicy detail of the show one episode at a
time. We'll connect the dots, uncover those
sneaky little Easter eggs, and of course,
serve up some piping hot behind the scenes tea.
Oh, and expect some iconic fandom moments
too, because what's a deep dive without a little drama?

Steve (02:25):
And, since we are all about inclusivity here at the non
judging breakfast pod, there is always a seat
for you at the non judging breakfast table. So go ahead and
grab your mimosa, a cup of coffee, or grab something
from Chuck's stash, and let's go ahead and get
started.

Leif (02:40):
Let's go ahead and get started.
And just this past week, it was
fashion week in Paris.

Steve (02:47):
Fantastic.

Leif (02:48):
Spotted Leighton Meester and Kelly Rutherford sitting
together at the Ellie SOB show.
Leighton has gone from auburn hair about a month
ago at the Sagwars to a full on redhead.

Steve (03:00):
Oh, no kidding.

Leif (03:01):
Yeah.

Steve (03:01):
Okay.

Leif (03:02):
She's also wearing an awesome, floral print, MIDI dress
by Ellie Saab.

Steve (03:06):
I think I need to check that out. Just purely
as a fan of the show and a fan of hers.

Leif (03:12):
And also this week, the new Lady Gaga
album came out. Mayhem.

Steve (03:17):
I have not given that a listen yet, but
I'll.

Leif (03:21):
I mean, it's not fame, but it's good. my
favorite track so far is Zombie Boy.

Steve (03:26):
Okay. Okay. Okay. I. Yeah, I'm.
I was really into her. Some of her older
stuff. I actually do. I. I do a part
of, Bad Romance
when I do a, Talking Heads Lady Gaga,
medley when I perform and includes Bad
Romance.

Leif (03:43):
And, you know, you know, we get into this episode,
you know, we talk about Nate doing comedy and chase to a
comedy.

Steve (03:50):
They.

Leif (03:50):
They finally let. Let it out this episode.

Steve (03:52):
Yeah. Yeah, he was.
He.
I loved Nate in this
episode. Finally giving him
something worth watching to.

Leif (04:01):
Do, even though it's not an actual story. But at least he's
just being a breath.

Steve (04:06):
Yeah. Yeah. I'm also all caught up
on Good Cop, Bad Cop, as well. We watched
last night. M. We watched the newest one, and we saw the other
one. Yeah. And it's
one of those things where the mark of a good
actor is when you don't see
everything else that actor has done when you're watching

(04:26):
them. And I
watched Gossip Girl this morning.
I watched Good Cop, Bad Cop last night,
and there was a moment when
Blair was talking to Chuck
where I was like, holy shit, that's the same
actor from last night. And, even
when she gets to do the more emotional stuff

(04:49):
and the more serious
bits, that interaction with her brother and those
sorts of scenes, it's not
the same. It's. It's, It's Lou.
It's not Blair. And it's
very. It's very
much like Steven Root that I get
lost with. Steven Root. Stephen Root is probably my

(05:12):
favorite actor, and it's because he
is never, ever the same
character twice, and he's been in
a ton of shit.

Leif (05:23):
So, we are here to Talk about season three, episode
four, titled, Dan de Florets
Original Air Date was October 5,
2009 Yes, I am
unfamiliar.

Steve (05:34):
With the film
it references.

Leif (05:38):
It's like one of the most famous French
language films ever, Jean de
Floret.

Steve (05:45):
I am unfamiliar with
this film.

Leif (05:49):
I watched both this and the sequel in French class in high
school. this short description is a
greedy land Owner and his backward nephew
conspired to block the only water source for adjoining
property in order to bankrupt the owner and force him to
sell. So, water rights.

Steve (06:07):
Yeah, yeah.
I wonder if they'll make a remake, an American
remake about the water
heights crisis that we're heading towards
in the western
states.

Leif (06:25):
the second one's a little weird because he falls in love with
the girl that was like a kid in the first
movie.

Steve (06:32):
Oh, yeah. It's sort of like Les
Miserables. Watching them. Watching the
play.

Leif (06:37):
They like that in France.

Steve (06:39):
Yeah, yeah. Watching the play.
Les Miserables and loving it. It's. I loved
that musical in high school. I saw it twice and I
could have sung every word of it at a time. Then I read
the book and it's like, wait, she's a
kid. And he's like in his 20s and
he's like, man, when that 10 year old

(06:59):
grows up, she's going to be smoking. And
then it's finally like, well, she's grown up. And I
was right. So fucking
creepy.

Leif (07:09):
Episode was written by John
Stevens, previously, wrote
episode 203, the Dark Knight, 209
there might be blood and 214
in the realm of the Bassett.

Steve (07:22):
Yeah, that's. That's a solid resume.

Leif (07:24):
Yeah. And directed by. Once again,
the P. notably did the pilot and
the backdoor pilot in season two.

Steve (07:32):
Yeah.

Leif (07:34):
and so they, they're going a little interesting. A couple
interesting things in the episode. One of them was that the Gossip
Girl blast were not in their normal place.
They were just like in the middle of the ax instead of at the end of the
ax.

Steve (07:46):
Yeah, well, and they really were
essential to the action in
this. Right? They, they really
pushed the plot in some places
and they had to. It's been done
before, but you're right that it was
out of place for the most part. Except for of

(08:07):
course, the beginning and end. But you're.
Yeah, I understand what you're saying.

Leif (08:12):
Why don't you go ahead and read us that vulture
recap?

Steve (08:15):
Once a very beautiful model told us
about the time her eyes had been injured by a
flash. She had to wear an eye mask and
stay in her apartment for days in utter darkness.
She was blind. It was hard. She told
us to feel her way around. She was
always bumping her long gazelle, like

(08:35):
shins into everything and didn't know where
anything was and was probably peeing all over
herself whenever she went to the bathroom.
We don't really know. For almost two years
now, we've been watching the characters on Gossip Girl bumble
around in the same darkness. It was only
last night's episode that they finally

(08:55):
were able to lift their masks and catch a
glimpse with their beautiful but crusted
eyes of the world and their place in
it. Dan, after a brief
interlude of loneliness, realized he was put
on this earth to squire around the
bees. Jenny Humphrey, after
attempting to relinquish the throne at Constance

(09:18):
Billard, realized that she was destined to
rule the school. Serena, after losing
herself briefly in a
publicity career, realized
her true talents lay with just being,
like, friends with people. And Blair,
in a hysterical reaction to being the biggest
dork at nyu, was fast

(09:41):
becoming the upper class version of
the Wooderson, character in Dazed and
Confused at Constance Billard before
being reminded that she was Blair
Waldorf. And Chuck Bass loved
her.

Leif (09:56):
Nailed it.

Steve (10:00):
Now, I'm. If I remember
correctly, that supermodel referenced in
the beginning was Tyra Banks. Right?
The supermodel that was injured by a flash and had to
stumble around her apartment for days and
had to be blind and was blind.

Leif (10:17):
Was it Tyra Banks or was it just someone?

Steve (10:21):
I'm almost positive it's Tyra Banks. I think that she did a
whole thing about it on her show.

Leif (10:26):
I'm like, that.

Steve (10:26):
Yeah, I'm almost positive that that was
Tyra Banks, because it just makes so
much sense, also with her
guest appearance on the show. So.

Leif (10:38):
So we get into the episode. Act one
begins with a gospel girl blast.
The first day of a new queen's reign.
Nervous subjects twitter and tweet. Will she
continue where the last queen left off or strike
out on her own? And. And what of queen
Bee? We hear NYU is not yet under

(10:59):
her golden thumb. is she biding her time
or simply doing time? But the real story
this morning is a queen of the silver screen just
enrolled at nyu. Rumor has it she wants to
keep a low profile. Sorry, your
majesty. Not if I can help it.
Get set up for the episode.

Steve (11:18):
Yeah, yeah. In our first
couple episodes, we discussed the
Gossip Girl as the
narrator versus Gossip Girl and her
posts. And I
feel like a lot of times the
intro can be more narration

(11:39):
than post, and this felt
very clearly a post.

Leif (11:43):
Yeah. Jenny is
prepping for her first day of school. She
contemplates wearing the crown tiara, but
instead sets it aside.

Steve (11:53):
We're ditching headbands.

Leif (11:55):
Yeah. Blair bumps into some
people outside her dorm room. She is still TR Struggling
to find her place at nyu.

Steve (12:03):
Yeah. Oh,
Blair, you poor thing.

Leif (12:07):
If this is high school, they would have just got out of her way.

Steve (12:10):
Yeah. Oh, yeah, absolutely.

Leif (12:14):
Dan and Nate are walking the streets discussing
Dan's lack of pop culture knowledge.

Steve (12:21):
I also. I also love that Dan is
helping Nate with his homework still.
He's reading over his Hawthorne paper.
That's so sweet.

Leif (12:32):
Yeah. once again, the show is ignoring
geography.

Steve (12:36):
Yes. Oh, yeah. They're just kind of meeting partway in
the city somewhere.

Leif (12:40):
Well, they're definitely in NYU territory. They're definitely,
I think, in the Village.

Steve (12:44):
Yeah.

Leif (12:44):
And it's.

Steve (12:46):
It's like Nate's just popping by.

Leif (12:48):
Yeah, it's. It's like an hour by subway to,
Columbia.

Steve (12:52):
Well, but is Nate taking the subway, or is he
have a car taking him?

Leif (12:56):
Even with a car, it could be wild. There's
traffic.

Steve (13:00):
Yeah. And I. Where I can see
it making a little sense is I'm going to
go see my friend who's helping me with my homework.
I'm going to go see the guy that I know is probably
one of the smartest guys I know.

Leif (13:13):
Honestly, I'm kind of surprised Nate's even going to class.

Steve (13:20):
Just banging.

Leif (13:21):
Yeah. And playing lacrosse.
As Nate leaves for Columbia, Dan
discovers, after ordering that he forgot
his wallet, a young woman who introduces herself
as Kate offers to buy Dan's coffee
for him.

Steve (13:37):
Hillary Duff.

Leif (13:38):
Yep. On the scene.

Steve (13:41):
Yeah, on the scene. When I moved to
Seattle, I, think it may have even
been the first time I really injured my back
badly. And
I was sitting at home all the time
and came across Lizzie McGuire. Now here I
was, 22 years old,

(14:01):
23. And
it, was accidentally on. I never was into
Nickelodeon shows.
And then I ended up accidentally watching this show
for an episode or two and was cracking up.
The dude from Revenge of the Nerds played her
dad, and he was

(14:21):
hilarious. The show was so well
written. It captured that middle
school energy. And I was fresh
out of student teaching middle school kids,
so it really just captured all of that, and I
absolutely loved that show. And it
became appointment TV for me for a

(14:41):
long time. And after a
while, a friend of mine said something
that sexualized
Hillary Duff, and
it horrified me when they said
it, and it just repulsed me. And I couldn't
watch the show anymore because I was like that.
Like, she was just this little,

(15:04):
little kid, you know,
experiencing middle school. And it
was so well done, and it was so
awesome, and I was just so
disappointed that, like, somebody really
just, like, grossed me out
about that, about the show, the
way that they talked about her.

Leif (15:24):
Well, as someone who's had a lifelong crush on Hillary
du years younger than you.

Steve (15:28):
Yeah. appropriately aged to have.

Leif (15:31):
She's like, the same age as me.

Steve (15:32):
Yes, exactly.

Leif (15:34):
And, yeah, but I have actually never.

Steve (15:36):
Seen, Leslie McGuire. That's really
funny. You. Honestly.

Leif (15:41):
I know the basic concept, but, yeah, they're actually seeing it.

Steve (15:43):
Yeah. Honestly, you should. You should go. At least watch the
first season or two, because it is
really clever, really witty.
I feel like at this
point, looking back, it
has a lot of sort of. I don't want to
say cliche things, but really, they
were ahead of their time with a lot of their

(16:05):
narration, and it was this cross with the
animation and the real world, and
it was just really clever. It was
a really clever show, and Hilary Duff
was hilarious on it. She was
amazing.

Leif (16:22):
Blair goes to a coffee shop looking for a club that
discusses finance, but instead finds nerds discussing
he Man.

Steve (16:29):
We also do role play.
Why'd you tell her that?

Leif (16:35):
A frustrated Blair calls Chuck, who gives some
exposition about Georgina visiting her parents in
Connecticut. Blair can't figure out NYU
people and, begins to reminisce about Constance.

Steve (16:47):
Blair, if you want to rule over
people, then you're going to need to, like, start a
business or a club, but
people don't give a shit about you here. So
pivot. You need to pivot.

Leif (17:01):
Jenny and Eric are walking to school.
Jenny is happy about the end of Hierarchies, but Eric
seems less optimistic. As usual,
Eric is right, because as they arrive at school, Eric and
Jenny are greeted by a trio of new minions
that are dressed like Jenny clones. A
disgusted Jenny tells her new minions to call a mass
meeting.

Steve (17:21):
Now wash your
eyes and then tell everyone to meet
me.

Leif (17:27):
Yeah. So we meet Carmen, Celeste, and
Jane.

Steve (17:31):
Okay. Named named minions.

Leif (17:34):
Rufus and Serena are role playing
Serena telling Lily about not going to
Brown. Hilarious scene.

Steve (17:42):
It's great. I really love it.

Leif (17:44):
Yeah.

Steve (17:45):
Yeah. I. I loved how they
both know Lily well enough
that when she says she would put her two fingers to a temple,
Rufus is immediately like, oh, yeah, I know the look.

Leif (17:56):
You know, I've gotten the look.

Steve (17:59):
Yes.

Leif (18:02):
Playtime is interrupted by a returning Lily.
After hugs are exchanged, Lily immediately asks why
Serena's at school, and the sweet scene
quickly cuts.

Steve (18:12):
You say hugs, Rufus. Stop trying
to make out with her right
in front of Serena.
He kept going in when she was like,
okay, we said
hello.

Leif (18:27):
It's been a few months. He needs
that. Let the kid leave the room.
Dan is getting to know his new friend Kate.

Steve (18:37):
Get her number, you fool.

Leif (18:39):
Dan doesn't have game. He just.

Steve (18:41):
He doesn't. He doesn't. He's Just.
He just lucks into
sex.

Leif (18:48):
Well, I guess that that jawline probably helps.

Steve (18:51):
It's whenever he actually does
start to exhibit game, he
just completely himself. Like when
the season one two summer
when he was clearly banging two women at the
same time, but, like, was clearly
fucking it up as well.

Leif (19:11):
Back in the penthouse, Lily is very disappointed in
Serena. Serena promises to get a job to prove
herself. Lily doesn't blame Rufus, but she is going to
force her daughter to go to Brown. Lily has been
spending too much time with Cece, and I think Rufus needs to
make some sweet love to her so she can calm down a bit.

Steve (19:29):
I get Lily here. I get it.
I think she's wrong, but I
get it.

Leif (19:36):
She's wrong in the general sense and she shouldn't be trying to
force it. But in Serena's case, the best
thing for her is, you know, go to college and find out who she
is.

Steve (19:46):
You have unlimited money. Exactly. I
agree with Lily's
notion. You can just go do this
thing. Just go live there.
Go and just go live there and do whatever you
want there. I get where
Lily's point, the going about it the
wrong way of forcing her into it.

(20:08):
Let your kid take a year off. I would not
like it if my kid came to me and said,
I want to take a year off. But I
would say, if this is really what you want to
do, then this is. It's
your life. This is for you to do.
As of right now, all, of my kids, none of my kids wanted to
take that gap year. Emily

(20:30):
graduates this year and starts college in the
fall. She's already committed to a
school, so they all had that
in their path to go right to school. I
know I wouldn't have liked it if they did
not. At one point, Bailey started complaining
about college life and about, oh, this
class is useless and it's so dumb. And it's.

(20:52):
And we were like, knock it off.
You. You can't just hate everything. You gotta
find something positive here and go with
it. And they were like, okay, you're right.
And because we started hearing the
thoughts of dropping out without a plan
of what to do with that. And at this point, for any

(21:14):
of the kids, if they're like, okay, college isn't my thing.
Okay, where are we going from here?

Leif (21:19):
Yeah, we get the last few
lines of a speech from Jenny declaring that hierarchies are
done at Constance. Most people are cheering,
but a few others, like the new minions, don't seem
too pleased.

Steve (21:33):
Yeah, I love how they made sure
to have Everyone there that you
had, the kids that were clearly like the band
geeks and just the kids who
weren't dressed in the fancy uniforms, but the
very plain ones that they really made
sure that it was
diverse. And then it comes to

(21:55):
make you realize the whole time Blair was
ruling Constance, she was really just ruling five
people. Four people. Yeah, it was four.
It was four people that really
followed anything that she said. Because right
now Jenny's dealing with three people.

Leif (22:12):
Blair is still at the coffee shop, annoyed at the
nerds talking about the genius of Skeletor,
and gets a text from Celeste. It
reads, help. Jenny Humphrey is destroying
everything.

Steve (22:24):
Kind of pathetic. Be.

Leif (22:26):
Yeah, we get one of those mid act
blasts here.
Well, well, word is the changes in the
era. Constance Billard. I have to wonder,
when queen bee finds out how little J is treating her
legacy, will she let it slide?

Steve (22:43):
I doubt it.

Leif (22:45):
Vanessa comes back to her dorm room to find a
woman on her phone hanging posters. The
woman says she works for V's new roommate and hands her an
NDA to sign. Then her new roommate shows
up, who is apparently the movie star everyone has been talking
about, but also Dan's new friend, Kate.

Steve (23:05):
The publicist, Casey. played by Deanna
Russo. I recognized her
immediately. My little sister
was super into the Nickelodeon show Hey
dude. And she was on that.
And I hated the show. Never wanted to watch it.
It was a stupid kid girl show.
And to, you know, however old I was,

(23:27):
Steve. And yet she
was the one that was like. But
there's. There is the pretty one that I don't mind
watching.

Leif (23:38):
there's always the pretty one.

Steve (23:40):
There's always the pretty one. But I hated that show. My
sister loved it. I. Sometimes I wonder
if there were things my sister loved because of how much I hated them.
probably. Yeah.

Leif (23:50):
We move into Act 2. Kate
slash. Olivia apologizes to Vanessa for taking down
Vanessa's Godard poster. Vanessa is a little
starstruck.

Steve (24:01):
That was sweet. I really liked
Olivia's response and
the. Her response to the NDA and
all of that stuff.
NDA? Yeah.

Leif (24:14):
Non disclosure agreement.

Steve (24:15):
Yeah, I was. Yeah. My brain couldn't wrap around it for a
second.

Leif (24:19):
They call it something else in the episode, but that's what it was, right?

Steve (24:22):
That's why I was thrown off, because I know that they said something
else.

Leif (24:25):
Confidential agreement.

Steve (24:27):
Yeah. Confidentiality agreement. Yeah.

Leif (24:30):
We get a montage of Serena applying for
jobs or even unpaid internships in various
fashion related businesses for once. Despite her
connections, Serena is struggling to get something she
wants. The fashionistas take the
meetings because they want Serena at the parties, but
don't want to hire for a job with good
cause. Yeah. She has no skills.

Steve (24:51):
Yeah. You want to just come here out of high school
without any fashion experience? People go to college
for this. Hey, go to college and then come back
and do this.

Leif (25:01):
Yeah.

Steve (25:02):
Oh, this is the direction I want.
Okay. If you think in fashion, go to
college for fashion.

Leif (25:10):
Serena.

Steve (25:11):
Serena. Zero experience doing anything
but posing for the paparazzi
and gallivanting.

Leif (25:18):
Yes. Serena then
eavesdrops on a conversation between Olivia and her
publicist at a restaurant. Serena chimes in with
some advice on avoiding the
paparazzi, and Olivia comments. Serena's on
Serena's met ball dress. Casey
is impressed with Serena and ask her if she has any interest in working
in publicity.

Steve (25:40):
First of all, Serena's response to
what do you mean you quelled a revolution?
When she's talking to Blair. Oh, Jesus,
Blair, what did you do? The,
Olivia recognizing
Serena, too. When
Olivia. When she gives her the advice

(26:00):
on how to sneak out the back and how to avoid the
paparazzi and how she
recognized Serena. Which it's funny because
Serena, the thing that you could do, which it
wasn't really a thing yet, but she's on
this influencer road. Serena doesn't
need to go to college. She just needs someone to invent
TikTok so that she can

(26:23):
do that.

Leif (26:24):
Which is funny because one of the main characters in the
reboot is an influencer,
which.

Steve (26:30):
That makes sense, you know, that.

Leif (26:32):
That, like, there she's, like, constantly talking about, like,
how. How many flowers she has.

Steve (26:37):
That's funny. One of my characters, one of
the characters in the new DND game that I
just started, is actually playing an influencer
in. In the D and D world.
And that is going to be a lot of fun for me to play
with.

Leif (26:52):
But it is also kind of funny that Serena is known for her met
ball dresses when. That's a totally Blake Lively
thing.

Steve (26:59):
Yeah, that. Yeah, that's true.
Also, the fact that she
calls her a diva when she says you're a
diva whisperer. There is no
moment in this episode
where Olivia is a
diva. She is an anti diva.

(27:20):
If anything, the way that she. I'm
so sorry she took down your poster and re
hung Vanessa's stuff.
That's not diva behavior. She's
not a diva whisperer. She just talked to a
person.

Leif (27:36):
She was kind of being a diva in this scene, I would
say, because she, like, she, she doesn't want to do the press Stuff,
and blah, blah, blah. She don't want to, you know, do the obligation. She just
wants to, you know, act.

Steve (27:45):
And, and I feel like the diva aspect
here was being
riled up by this publicity
publicist who is not
doing what you want. I hired you.

Leif (27:59):
Yeah.

Steve (28:00):
And they're not. She's not meeting in the
middle. She's not doing what her client wants. She's doing what
she thinks is best for her client.

Leif (28:07):
Yeah.

Steve (28:08):
Which is good conflict. Except for the fact that they
clear that Casey was written to be just such
a terrible person.

Leif (28:18):
Back at school, the new minions, now wearing headbands,
are arraigning the school back under the monarchy.
Jenny and Eric smell Blair's signature Chanel number
five. All over this scheme.

Steve (28:30):
The headbands seem to have VW
engraved on them.

Leif (28:36):
Nate is busting Dan's traps for not getting Kate's
number. Kate slash Olivia happens to walk
into the same cafe. Nate of course,
recognizes her, but just encourages Dan to go
talk to her again.

Steve (28:50):
Nate fucking with Dan is
hilarious. It was so great that he turns
around, he's like, oh, that's her.
Awesome. And just downplays
it.

Leif (29:01):
A sign.

Steve (29:03):
That's a sign.

Leif (29:06):
That's. That's Olivia Burke.

Steve (29:08):
But no.

Leif (29:08):
that. That's a sign.

Steve (29:09):
Yes. Catches himself.

Leif (29:12):
After Olivia fails to answer to Kate twice, Dan
gives her a little shoulder tap.
K. Olivia accepts the
invitation to pizza. As Dan and Olivia walk out,
Nate gives him the little bro nod and fist pump.
Yeah, she's.

Steve (29:28):
She's skipping Larry King for lonely Boy.

Leif (29:31):
Yeah, man.

Steve (29:32):
And Nate again, just
cracking up as they leave. Like, you
dumb. Like lucky
bastard. Turn on your TV
sometime.

Leif (29:45):
Serena gets introduced to her first assignment in
her new job. Looks like S is going to be babysitting
a bigger diva than Blair.

Steve (29:52):
I can't with Tyra Banks. I never could.
I haven't always found her
to just be
so self righteous and
obnoxious and she is always.
And while also coming off very
vapid at times. And I've
never enjoyed watching her

(30:15):
in anything ever. And the streak
continues.

Leif (30:18):
I liked her in her earlier stuff before she became like a
reality star. Like in Fresh Prince
and Higher Learning.

Steve (30:26):
I don't remember her in Fresh Prince.

Leif (30:29):
She was Will's friend from Philly that came out to LA
and they had, they had like a little romance thing going.

Steve (30:34):
I, don't. I. Yeah, I, I do.

Leif (30:36):
She was like 18.

Steve (30:37):
Yeah.

Leif (30:38):
And then she was also at Higher Learning.

Steve (30:40):
I don't remember. I know I've seen
Higher Learning, but I Was.

Leif (30:46):
Watch it again. It's a great movie. Okay.

Steve (30:47):
Yeah, I was really high. Like, we were all.

Leif (30:50):
You should definitely watch that.

Steve (30:50):
It's a.

Leif (30:51):
It's a amazing movie.

Steve (30:52):
Is. Wait, which one is that? The one I'm thinking about, Higher Learning
is the one where. Wait, is that a drama or a comedy?

Leif (30:58):
Definitely a drama.

Steve (31:00):
Oh, okay. I'm getting it confused with
something else.

Leif (31:03):
So you got higher, education.
Yeah. Got Omar Epps. Got Christy
Swanson. what's his name?

Steve (31:11):
The.

Leif (31:12):
The white guy from Brooklyn.

Steve (31:14):
Yes. Rapaport. Yes. Oh, yeah, I
have. Yeah.

Leif (31:18):
That's a really good burn. Yeah.

Steve (31:21):
Yes, I have seen that. That's a.
I was getting it confused with the.
I think it's called Higher Education, where it's like a
weed movie in college where it's
like, with. Is.

Leif (31:34):
Is it the guy in the Critic?
Oh, maybe that's when.
What's the guy who plays the critic?

Steve (31:43):
John Lovett.

Leif (31:43):
Yeah. Isn't he in Higher Education?

Steve (31:45):
I think so. Yeah. He may be. Yeah.

Leif (31:47):
And, like, Tia Carrera, maybe.

Steve (31:49):
Maybe. Yeah. but.

Leif (31:50):
Yeah, yeah, but Bust, rhymes is also Empire
Learning.

Steve (31:54):
Yes. Yeah. No, no, I remember that movie
now, and I. Yes, it came out around the time
is American History X, I
believe. Yeah.

Leif (32:04):
Somewhere around there, it had.

Steve (32:05):
Because it had those similar kind of themes to
it that, like. Yeah,
man, Now. Now that I'm remembering that movie, like,
it's a good movie,
but I came with Tyra Banks.

Leif (32:20):
She plays Omar Epps, girlfriend,
slash track star with him.

Steve (32:25):
Oh, yeah. Okay.

Leif (32:29):
Poor S. No one told her this was going to
be a horror movie.
That's what we get from Gossip World. Before we move into Act
3, Serena's bonding with her new client,
Ursula. We learn that she has a really important scene
in the upcoming movie premiere.

Steve (32:46):
Yeah, nothing can go wrong here.

Leif (32:48):
So she mentioned she's playing Josephine Baker. Do you know
who that is at all? M. Okay.

Steve (32:53):
Yeah. during World War II. Well, she was
a black jazz, singer.
Right. Or is it more opera?

Leif (33:01):
she was an entertainer.

Steve (33:03):
Oh, okay.

Leif (33:05):
she did a lot of stuff. She was the first black woman to star in a major
motion picture.

Steve (33:10):
Yes.

Leif (33:10):
she was a burlesque dancer.

Steve (33:12):
Yes.

Leif (33:13):
And singer.

Steve (33:13):
Yes.

Leif (33:14):
And she was, like, basically the biggest entertainer in
Europe for a while.

Steve (33:18):
Yeah.

Leif (33:18):
she had a cheetah that you brought up on stage with her,
and it would jump down into the. The pit to bother the
musicians.

Steve (33:25):
Fantastic.

Leif (33:26):
Yes.

Steve (33:27):
But, yeah, just know if I ever. If you ever
read that I died from a big cat
mauling me to death that my last words were.

Leif (33:37):
And then she. During World War II, she did work, for
French counterintelligence.

Steve (33:42):
Yes. And that's one of the things that I knew the most,
that she was actually
active in the
war as well, in the war effort.

Leif (33:53):
But she keeps talking about the scene
where she distracts the guards. Is she just doing a
burlesque dance?

Steve (34:00):
Yeah, she's just going to go out.

Leif (34:01):
There and how is that going to be some award winning performance?

Steve (34:04):
Yeah. Yeah.

Leif (34:06):
No wonder why I got cut.

Steve (34:09):
Okay, this part's kind of okay.

Leif (34:11):
We a little gratuitous.

Steve (34:13):
We could actually find footage of the actual.
Actually probably can't, but.

Leif (34:18):
Chuck goes to the Waldorf Pine House to invite Blair to
the big premiere. However, he discovered that Blair is
hosting a high school sleepover.

Steve (34:27):
Be wearing. She's wearing
a skirt that is very
much the cut of something
she would wear to Constance, though it's
a grown up version of it. And it's not wearing the
colors, even the top. The entire
outfit is
schoolgirl esque.

Leif (34:48):
Yeah, it's high school.

Steve (34:49):
Yes.

Leif (34:51):
A clueless Dan is flirting with Olivia, who says she
likes Dan, but that it wouldn't work out between them.
Once again, dad says the worst possible thing.
Yeah, you're so down to earth.

Steve (35:03):
You're so down to earth. And you don't have all the attention on you
all the time like my exes did.
There's an alarming number of people who turn
and stop to look at you on the street. I mean, you're just so
beautiful.

Leif (35:17):
Yes.

Steve (35:19):
Oh, boy. Dan, you will
understand. Which that line, like,
I don't understand you will, is also a
little bit arrogant on your part,
Olivia, because you don't know that you're rooming with his best
friend. And this guy clearly does not give a shit about
anything you've been in. So if it weren't for
circumstance, he would have just gone on with his life

(35:42):
not knowing who you were for a little while.

Leif (35:45):
Outside the school, Chuck finds Jenny and
recruits her to help him snap Blair back to the
present.

Steve (35:52):
Love that Chuck just can't with pathetic Blair.
It's so the guy
that would hang out at the high school
after high school was over.
Because I remember being, like a sophomore
junior, and friends of mine would
graduate and then they'd come back to visit and it'd be

(36:13):
like, oh, it's great to see you. And then you don't
see them again until Christmas. But then
there's that one guy who it's just kind of like every
Week. And then, like, every now and then, it'll be, like, every
day. And it's like,
why are you. Why are you still here?

Leif (36:30):
Serena is helping a frazzled Ursula get ready
for the premiere. When Ursula leaves the room,
Casey informs Serena that Ursula's big scene got
cut. Casey tells Serena that they can't
tell Ursula and Serena.

Steve (36:44):
Serena, you know how shitty you're being
already. You already know that.
That's not good.

Leif (36:51):
Dan thinks he was dumped, so he calls his fallback
girl, Vanessa. It looks like they are going to the
premiere as well. Did someone say party of the
week?

Steve (37:01):
Yes, and I picked up on that as
well. Where. Oh, this premiere is the
party. I actually really
noticed it the second run through.
At this point, I realized, okay, this is the party of the week.
The premiere. The second time through, it
was. The seeds were so much more

(37:22):
obvious.

Leif (37:23):
At the red carpet, the stars are arriving. Dan is
looking For Vanessa and Mrs. The arrival of
Olivia, being greeted by her adoring fans.

Steve (37:32):
It was cute.

Leif (37:34):
It was cute, it was funny, but it just
feels, like, out of place in this show.

Steve (37:38):
yeah, yeah.

Leif (37:40):
It's like more of a sitcom thing.

Steve (37:42):
I. I feel like this show
realized there, that it could only take what it was
doing last season so far, and now they're kind
of trying to find
a new voice almost,
so it feels like they're kind of throwing things out there to.
To just sort of shake it up. The

(38:02):
Gossip Girl interludes being out of
place and scenes like this
that are a little bit more sitcommy. I'm,
wondering if that's an intent. They're
trying to find something at the
Waldorf penthouse.

Leif (38:18):
Blair is sitting back and taking in some adulation
of her own. Dorota pleas for Blair to stop the
nonsense, but it falls on deaf ears.

Steve (38:26):
So pathetic. Even Dorota is
like, I can't with this. I'm watering
down these martinis, and these
children don't even realize it.
What is happening here?

Leif (38:40):
Jenny, in all her gothic Barbie
glory, arrives, at the premiere on the arm of Chuck
Bass. This fact is almost immediately
relayed to Blair via Gossip Girl. Blast.

Steve (38:52):
And Blair is just so much more pathetic here when
she's. Who wants to hear about how Chuck. How I
got Chuck Bass to tell me he loves me? And then when
they all. And then they all gather around
and get this bomb from Gossip Girl
that Chuck Bass is
at. At the premiere with Jenny, and,

Leif (39:13):
Nothing new, but Chuck Bass was being very gross in this
scene.

Steve (39:16):
Oh, yeah. Absolutely.

Leif (39:20):
Spotted on the red carpet. Jenny Humphrey on
the arm of the Red Baron. Chuck Bass, guest
queen BE isn't starring in this melodrama.

Steve (39:31):
It's got a sting. Yep.

Leif (39:33):
It seems Rufus convinced Lily to come to Serena's
event on the premise that it was the date. However, when
Lily discovers the ruse, she immediately shits all over
Serena's job. Lily gives the advice to be
a good friend over obeying her boss's orders
though.

Steve (39:49):
Good advice. I think that that would have been the right
thing to do.

Leif (39:53):
It's definitely the moral thing to do.

Steve (39:55):
It's the moral thing to do.

Leif (39:57):
But is that what Lily really
believes? Or is she intentionally sabotaging Serena's
job?

Steve (40:03):
Yeah, because Lily. Because Lily would have
been the publicist.

Leif (40:08):
Yeah. You would think Lily would say, you know, follow your boss's
orders.

Steve (40:11):
Yeah.

Leif (40:13):
But.

Steve (40:13):
Yeah, well. And
Lily isn't taking this job seriously,
so it's not even so much as that.

Leif (40:21):
Turns out she's right.

Steve (40:22):
She was. But it wasn't so much take
the doing it to sabotage the
job. It's the take the friendship seriously.
Because that's the thing you're going to get out of this. The job isn't
going to be serious.

Leif (40:36):
Dan and Olivia bump into each other. And Dan still
hasn't figured out the big secret. After figuring
out they both mutually know Vanessa,
Dan finally has the light bulb moment when the flash of a
camera shines in his face.

Steve (40:50):
Perfect. It was so the way he.
Wait.

Leif (40:54):
What's going on? What are you doing?

Steve (40:55):
Oh, you could have just told me you didn't want to be here. You
could have just told me you didn't want to come with me.
Wait, I'm looking for my. For Vanessa?
You mean Vanessa Abrams? What? Like how do
you know this? And
then him finally getting it your
floor.

Leif (41:14):
And then we move into Act 5 as
everyone is watching the movie. Ursula sees that her scene was
cut and she storms out of the theater. Casey and
Serena follower.

Steve (41:25):
Yeah. And then that leads to the next scene.

Leif (41:28):
It turns out that Lily was right. Casey was
just using Serena. Casey is hoping Ursula will be
humiliated by the press because it will be good
publicity.

Steve (41:39):
And Casey is just. She's.
She's shitty. This whole. Yeah, everything about her is
shitty. Going in and rearranging
somebody's room is shitty.

Leif (41:50):
She's very two dimensional character.

Steve (41:52):
Very two dimensional character.

Leif (41:55):
Blair arrives at the premiere after party and
goes after Jenny. However, Chuck quickly
steps in and takes the blame. Chuck gives a big speech
to Blair about why she can't give up because that would
make him him look bad.

Steve (42:09):
It's funny how once,
again, this sick and twisted
relationship comes out. Sweet
in the way he's like, you're
telling me that I'm easier to win over than all
of these idiots
at nyu.

(42:29):
Like, that's. That. That's shitty.
And remember, next time you forget your Blair
Waldorf, remember, I'm Chuck Bass and I love you.
again, they're twisted, but it's
oddly sweet. Despite him,
again, like you said, making it about him,
I didn't like it.

Leif (42:50):
Dan is waiting in the empty theater for
Olivia. Olivia apologizes for not telling Dan
sooner. She was just enjoying a normal
relationship. It looks like it was not meant to be
after all.

Steve (43:02):
Dan, why are you still there? Why
are you still just sitting in the theater?

Leif (43:07):
He knows that she wasn't going to apologize,
okay? Because Dan
is the king of NY show.

Steve (43:14):
you know what? Hold on. I take it back.
Dan is the guy that would sit there until the very
fucking end of the credits.

Leif (43:20):
Oh, yeah, definitely.

Steve (43:22):
Dan is the guy that's sitting there like, oh,
I didn't realize that John. That John was a
compositor now.

Leif (43:29):
And also judging everyone from leaving early.

Steve (43:32):
yes. And, you know, these people put in hard work. We should at
least stay to see their names.
So, yeah, I take it back. It makes total sense for
Dan to be the last guy in the theater.

Leif (43:44):
Blair gets stopped by a photographer that specifically
wants to take Blair Waldorf's photo.

Steve (43:49):
Definitely not a setup.

Leif (43:54):
In a quiet room, Ursula is crying over
losing the scene that could have made her career.
Casey, advises for Ursula to go out and throw
a fit for the press. When pressed, Serena
gives the opposite advice. Serena gets
fired.

Steve (44:11):
This scene where she's like, you
should go out there and steal their day and make a big
scene. And Tyra Banks turns, she's like, is that what
you think I should do? You
just listened to some horrible advice, and now
you're asking a teenager, should I go
be a fucking,

(44:31):
ridiculous child and throw a huge
fit out there? Is that the advice
I should take? Why are you even
considering that? Like, what?

Leif (44:42):
Because that's her natural reaction? Apparently.

Steve (44:45):
Yes.

Leif (44:45):
But, something else I want to throw up about the scene.
Ursula calls Casey
Kenny. She looks over, says,
and just calls her and addresses her as Kenny.
Now, are they dropping some deep lore about
this character that she goes by KC because
her parents gave her a boy's name, or was that just

(45:06):
the best take they could get out of Tyra Banks?

Steve (45:13):
Did Tyra Banks create the deep lore
that she goes by KC because her parents
named her after Ken Griffey Jr. Ken Griffey
Sr. Big fans. They're from Seattle.

Leif (45:27):
but after that scene, we move into the
epilogue. Lily comes into Serena's room
to find her packing a suitcase. Serena is leaving
Lily's house but not going to Brown. Now that
she has failed to sway Serena, as well, Lily
shifts the blame onto Rufus.

Steve (45:43):
Yeah, Lily. It's Rufus's fault.

Leif (45:46):
Lily.

Steve (45:47):
And. And to be fair, Rufus is like,
let her. Let her go. Like, this isn't the
way you're going to win her over.
What are you thinking? What? What
teenager does the thing
that their parents just tell them they have to
do? Especially Serena, who has
never. Who, when you tell her to do something,

(46:09):
goes to Spain.

Leif (46:11):
If only Rufus would have taken his own advice last
year.

Steve (46:15):
Yes. Jesus Christ.
If only he was as good a parent to Jenny as he is to
anybody else.

Leif (46:25):
That just shows that Rufus M or Lily are perfect for each other
because they gotta parent everyone else's kids, but not their own.

Steve (46:30):
But not their own. And
there you gotta also wonder if how much of it is Rufus
now looking back and learning from what he
did? And maybe. Maybe even regretting
some of it. Well, he should regret it because Jenny is.
That's gonna. That's gonna escalate.

Leif (46:50):
Vanessa and Olivia do some roommate bonding.
Vanessa remembers her time with Scott and pushes Olivia to go
after Dan.

Steve (46:58):
Vanessa coming through as a wingman in
this. Good job, Vanessa.
Yeah.

Leif (47:04):
Don't know why she's so obsessed with Scott, though.

Steve (47:07):
Yeah, he's. He's shitty
and boring and boring and,
yeah, hardly real.

Leif (47:15):
Blair lets Serena know that she can stay at her house before
arriving back at her dorm. It looks like Blair
finally tracked down some NYU minions. Looks like
she also received a schoolgirl uniform from Chuck for their
next roleplay scenario.

Steve (47:30):
Fans, is this the story you want?
Is Blair getting a new
dominion really what we need?
I really just want to see Blair pivot
and find a new way to fit in without
this fucking hierarchy shit. I want her to learn
that this isn't how life works

(47:51):
outside of your super
rich prep school.
That this isn't how,
especially at a place like NYU where
people don't give a shit that you have a lot of money. People are
going to be more mad at you that you have a ton of money that you're
flaunting around than if you were just fucking

(48:11):
cool.

Leif (48:12):
I mean, NYU does have a business school.

Steve (48:15):
okay, go to that then.
And do that.

Leif (48:19):
Well, it looks like she's now Finding her people.
And the one girl we did meet in
the second episode, she was the one person that showed up
to the fish party.

Steve (48:28):
Yes.

Leif (48:29):
Amalia.

Steve (48:30):
Yeah.

Leif (48:30):
And then I think the other two ones are actually twins.

Steve (48:33):
Oh, interesting.

Leif (48:36):
We'll see if we get. We get names for them.
And then, to no one's surprise, we find out
Chuck paid the photographer to take pictures of Blair because
even Dumbo needed the feather.

Steve (48:47):
Yeah. Called it.

Leif (48:49):
Yeah. Ursula is saying goodbye to
Serena before returning to la. But Ursula also
lets Serena know that she got Serena her job back.

Steve (48:58):
She said, you helped me find myself. You.
You found yourself by not throwing a
fit in front of people like you.

Leif (49:06):
You realized you were an adult person.

Steve (49:07):
Yes. Good job.

Leif (49:09):
Well done. Serena is the
diva whisperer.

Steve (49:13):
She is the diva whisperer and has her
job back. Apparently so.

Leif (49:19):
So she has something to do in the city. She's not just gallivanting around.

Steve (49:22):
Yeah. Does that mean Casey is going to be a
more regular star
of the show? Is she going to be at least a.

Leif (49:32):
probably. Some of these characters probably need a publicist.

Steve (49:35):
Yeah. Oh, boy. Oh, Blair.
Oh, God.

Leif (49:39):
Vanessa calls Scott because she clearly misses him,
but he seems over it and then blows her off to take a call
from Georgina. It seems like sky has been hanging
out with her in Boston.

Steve (49:50):
Fantastic.

Leif (49:52):
I've been asking. You're such a loser.

Steve (49:53):
Yeah. Vanessa. Vanessa, you got dumped for
Georgina and you're still pining over
a guy who. Whose secret you should tell
at this point because he's a big fucking
asshole. Although how. What does that do to Rufus if
you do tell him? If you do go to Rufus and Lily and
like, hey, that is your son. He
lied to you.

Leif (50:14):
Well, Lily doesn't know.

Steve (50:15):
Yeah.

Leif (50:17):
even that he came back at all.

Steve (50:19):
And I've seen the episode title for the next
episode, so wonder how that's
going to blow up.
Somebody's getting married.

Leif (50:31):
Dan is sitting alone in a coffee shop, hoping to see
Olivia again. The
girl with the hat. Some other blonde
hipster.

Steve (50:40):
Yeah.

Leif (50:42):
Jenny is back at Constance and is once
again approached by the new minions. They are
clearly desperate for leadership. Jenny reluctantly
takes up the crown and begins ordering her new
kingdom. Yeah, Dark Jenny's
coming back.

Steve (50:57):
Yeah. Dark Jenny orders a yogurt
and hold my place. The Met steps.
I even saying like, hold my place in the Met steps. It's like, okay,
I need to maintain order. Get me a yogurt.
Now that's a power move.

Leif (51:11):
It looks like Blair is starting her new kingdom at
nyu.

Steve (51:15):
Yeah, she sure is.

Leif (51:18):
And then finally, the Episode ends with Olivia
finding Dan, and it looks like they're gonna be
starting something.

Steve (51:25):
They obviously had to get together. They're too
cute not to. They had. They had good
chemistry the whole time, and
I think it'll be nice to have them.
I. I'm hoping we. We have
Hillary Duff for a little while now,
I'm assuming. At least for a few episodes,

(51:46):
for. For a little love arc with Dan.
That's cool. Which also gives Casey
reason to be around as well.
So who's she gonna bang, Nate? Or is this.
Or is she going to be? What drives Blair and Chuck
apart when Blair needs a,
publicist and Chuck M.
There's something that could be there.

Leif (52:08):
But, yeah, we end the episode. So the last several
scenes were all overlaid with the Gossip Girl blast as
normal. And it goes.
If you ask me, we go to the movies because we
want to see fairy tales. A sleeping
queen woken by her true love's kiss.
A princess to put aside her jewels to make her way in the

(52:29):
world. Lovers torn apart, being brought
back together. But life is an eighth fairy tale,
and happy endings are few and far between.
In life, the young queen becomes a tyrant and
takes her subjects to war. So that's why we need
movies and that sometimes even
fairy tales can come true.
Xoxo. Gossip Girl.

Steve (52:53):
Yeah, it ends on another sort of
uplifting upbeat, which also
typically means there's going to be some shit on the
horizon.

Leif (53:03):
So the previous cliffhangers from last
episode were Scott and Georgina, which we
got at least a little bit of movement on that one.
But the other one was Carter and Brie, and they were, like, not even
mentioned at all this episode.

Steve (53:16):
No, we. We had Nate and
Serena, but neither of their
others. And Brie. Ah. Just not
even. Not even a conversation with Dan and Nate,
which is a little interesting.
Yeah.

Leif (53:30):
But, what's coming next?

Steve (53:32):
Well, first of all, somebody's getting married. I do know
that just from the title of the next episode,
I'm assuming this
Dan Olivia relationship will
have a nice little arc until
someone else throws their hat in the
ring and things get messy. I'm

(53:52):
thinking Vanessa is going to.
I'm predicting Vanessa takes a trip
to Scott and
Georgina and finds them, and
it'll be a whole storyline that nobody
needs.

Leif (54:08):
that's about right.

Steve (54:09):
Yeah. I have a
feeling that hopefully, we'll get something of
the Carter Bree drama.
And I say hopefully very lightly. I don't give a shit.
I would actually really like for that to never be addressed
again and for us to just Go on knowing,
hey, they have a history and let's just never worry about

(54:29):
them again. It'd be kind of funny if they really did just
ignore that whole thing and never came back to
it and we never see Carter or Brie again.

Leif (54:37):
Sebastian, Stan got fired.

Steve (54:39):
Yeah, I know. He does. Eventually. So is
this. Was it here or was it later?
I'm assuming it's later, but it would
be great if it was just. Nah.
And because. Because that's stupid.
Because having drama between two side
characters is stupid. Yeah,

(55:00):
I can't think of.
There's going to be drama with Scott,
with Lily finding out about Scott sometime, I'm
assuming right before or after the wedding.
So there's going to be that conversation.
I'm. Chuck and Blair are still
going strong. Stronger than I anticipated.

(55:21):
And I almost thought Chuck was going to dump
Blair for not being cool when. During that. Which
maybe that's why I liked it when
you said you didn't. I thought it was creepy. I didn't like
it. I would hate it if someone said that to my daughter. I thought it made
sense for Blair and Chuck because of
how their dynamic is.

Leif (55:41):
It makes sense.

Steve (55:41):
Creepy.

Leif (55:42):
I still don't like it.

Steve (55:43):
But I actually didn't know where he was going with that at first. And I think
the part of why I liked it is because he ended up being like, just
remember that I love you and you're with
me. So it was like, okay, they're staying together, so
he still loves her. I almost thought he was going to break up with her
right then and there and then.
So they're still going strong. And I feel like
they. That is not being

(56:06):
threatened. I'm constantly waiting for that to
be threatened. And it keeps not really
being threatened.

Leif (56:13):
Could they be the new Monica and Chandler?

Steve (56:16):
They could be. They could be.

Leif (56:18):
And they're just together for the whole series.

Steve (56:20):
She hasn't banged Dan yet. And I just
know at some point she's got to bang
Dan.

Leif (56:26):
I mean, does it everyone.

Steve (56:28):
Yeah, everyone has to bang Dan.
Like, look at him.
Especially, you know, easy a glow up
Dan. Like, come on.

Leif (56:39):
Which I actually just did rewatch this week.
Such a good movie.

Steve (56:44):
Oh, yeah, it's fun.

Leif (56:46):
What, about Jenny.

Steve (56:47):
Yeah, Jenny is going to
take it too far. I feel
like Jenny is going to crescendo and then crash and
burn. I do know that at some point, I believe this
season that she makes her exit. It's either this
season or next season. And I'm just assuming
that she takes this too far

(57:07):
until she just crashes And Burns.

Leif (57:09):
Does Eric get drawn into it?

Steve (57:11):
Eric is the voice of reason. Eric.
I actually. I would sooner see her turning
her back on Eric to gain her
own power. She's done it before. I could see it
getting to her head. And if Eric doesn't agree with her, I could see
her turning on him. And I could see Eric being the one to bring
her down out of love
and out of just Eric being

(57:34):
the voice of reason at all times. Eric
being the one and only fucking
grown up on this show.
Eleanor, sometimes.

Leif (57:46):
Any other predictions?

Steve (57:49):
I don't think so. Oh, Serena
still having a job is interesting.
I. Serena, if she's still with
Carter, I could see Serena
publicizing someone new
who makes things awkward.
So Serena being a publicist is
going to, play into some drama at some point, I'm

(58:10):
sure.

Leif (58:12):
All right, well, let's go ahead and get into some
segments. This week in Fandom,
we hopped into the Wayback Machine to travel to the
Television without pity forums from 2009.
Hello there, Peabody here. And this
is the Wayback Machine for traveling through time.

Steve (58:30):
And this is my boy, Sherman. Speak,
Sherman. Hello.

Leif (58:34):
Good boy. Overall,
kind of a meh episode. Good comedy.
The Blair, Chuck and Jenny plot was good,
but, overall it was not that great. Yeah,
too much stunt casting and too many guest stars in general.

Steve (58:48):
Yeah, it was just hardly any
cast. Every scene. I feel
almost every scene had a guest
star in it except for
Jenny. It was anything that didn't have Jenny or the Lily
Rufus stuff, but anything that had any of the
others. And.

Leif (59:07):
Yeah. So, this is a common problem with teen
shows. Once they get out of high
school, the stories become too disconnected.

Steve (59:15):
Yeah. Saved by the Bell. The college years
absolutely could not keep up with Saved
by the Bell.

Leif (59:23):
They probably started the show with the main characters. They
should have started the show. The characters as softwares
to get another year of high school stories.

Steve (59:31):
Makes sense. I'm assuming that the book did. The book. Are the
books all high school? Because you could do that in
books.

Leif (59:37):
Yeah, I think it is. Yeah. I believe so. And
then they spin off to Jenny going to boarding
school. Most people dislike
Blair being so pathetic.

Steve (59:48):
Because it was really pathetic. It really
was. It was a rock bottom for
Blair. I honestly,
I found this to be more cringy
that, it was more cringe than
her banging two dudes
that were best friends

(01:00:09):
back to back.

Leif (01:00:11):
There's some anticipation for a potential
Jenny and Eric feud.

Steve (01:00:16):
I could see it. I can see it.

Leif (01:00:20):
There were a bunch of people making fun of Serena's idea of
work attire. And this was their words,
not mine. Is just putting a jacket over a slutty
dress.

Steve (01:00:32):
Interview interview clothes.
Surprised she didn't have, like, a tie
just around her neck, but, yeah,

Leif (01:00:42):
Serena does that all the time.

Steve (01:00:43):
Yeah. I'm going to
wear these pajamas with a coat.

Leif (01:00:51):
Most fans thought Chuck and Blair were adorable, but if
you saw the same cracks I did.

Steve (01:00:58):
Yeah, yeah.

Leif (01:01:00):
Jenny's minions look like, quote,
rejects from a Disney Channel TV show.

Steve (01:01:08):
Probably Nickelodeon, because I'm starting to see
a, lot of a, commonality in this episode.
All these Nickelodeon stars this week,
and.

Leif (01:01:18):
The fans are still convinced that Ed is the best actor on the show
for some reason.

Steve (01:01:23):
Really? Wait,
really? He's. He's not the best
actor in any scene he's ever been in.
He's.

Leif (01:01:32):
Remember, like, last. Last year, they were talking about how, like, his
scenes were, like, going to a prestige television or
something?

Steve (01:01:38):
Yeah, no, not at all.
He. He carries his role,
but he can't emote,
vocally without going full
Brit. Yeah.

Leif (01:01:52):
And then finally, Lily and Rufus can't be good
parents at the same time. They keep flip flopping.

Steve (01:01:57):
Yes.

Leif (01:01:59):
Facts, facts.
That is it for this week in Phantom, So let's
get into some episode grades. You went first
last time, so I will go first.
there's some great comedy moments with Nate and Dan as well as the
Rufus and Serena stuff, but

(01:02:20):
the writing was a bit too contrived for
me. They're trying some new things with the Gossip
Girl blast in different spots, but
overall, I gave it a B minus.

Steve (01:02:31):
I landed at the same place as you,
for largely the same reason. And much
like last week, it didn't really go
anywhere other than Dan
having a potential new relationship. There was
no real plot
foundation to move into the

(01:02:51):
next episode, especially with, like, that little
bit of momentum. The last episode
really didn't do much except for these
cliffhangers at the end that ended up not
mattering in this episode. So it once again
just felt kind of standalone. It
was. Had its moments that I liked. It wasn't a

(01:03:12):
terrible episode. It was still enjoyable
to watch, and I landed at a B minus as well.

Leif (01:03:21):
Moving on over to Stockwatch
for me, going up, I had Jenny
because she is taking the reins of the school.
Chuck, because she. You basically
manipulated Blair and got her to see some confidence.
Finally, Dan, because he continues to
fail upward,

(01:03:42):
taking advantage of that white privilege. I
gave Olivia, you know, up because she's, you know, she
had her big premiere and, you know, she's got Dan now the king
of nyu. And I gave Rufus an up because
he was funny and he was making some sense for
once.

Steve (01:03:56):
Who do you got? I have mostly the same as you. I
had Dan and Olivia both going up
for their relationship, getting
together and going somewhere. I had Serena
going up for getting her job back and
actually having a job and
coming through for Ursula. And in

(01:04:17):
the end, I had Jenny going up
for the most obvious of all
of them. She is queen. So I have her
going up in her stock. I have
Rufus going up as well. The other one I have
going up and I, is
Vanessa. And the reason is
good wingman. Good wingman job. You

(01:04:39):
have a new friend who's a movie,
star who wants to just be your friend. And you
are a really good wingman to Dan. And I give her
an up for that.

Leif (01:04:49):
But she did get blown off by Scott.

Steve (01:04:51):
Yeah, but fuck Scott.

Leif (01:04:53):
Speaking of which, he makes a place on my downs
because he is being manipulated by
Georgina. Yeah, being played by Georgina and just being dull as
usual. Yeah. I also had Lily because she was
horrible. She's taking her cues from Cece
now. we got Ursula because, you know, her
career is. Her scene got cut. And
Casey because she's a two dimensional villain.

(01:05:16):
I had Vanessa going down because she got blown off by
Scott. I had the new minions going
down because they got bulldoze this whole
episode. And also the NYC minions because,
well, you're being ruled by a loser.

Steve (01:05:30):
Did you mention Blair?

Leif (01:05:31):
And Blair and Blair.

Steve (01:05:32):
Okay, because I was going to say I have. My list
is exactly 100% the
same as yours. Ursula, Casey,
Lily, Blair, both sets of
minions. I actually didn't have the New York minions, but
I want to add the New York minions because,
yes, they're being ruled by a loser

(01:05:53):
and.

Leif (01:05:54):
Yeah, what about Scott?

Steve (01:05:56):
Oh, and Scott. Scott going down for being played
by Georgina, which I originally didn't
put Scott, but having mentioned
it, he's completely getting played by
Georgina. He absolutely is getting his
stock down. Also, just Scott sucks. Like, can
we. God, that I wish
he would have just told Rufus the truth. Rufus, the truth.

(01:06:19):
And left
and been done.

Leif (01:06:23):
It would have been even better if he's like, oh, you're my
son. Great.

Steve (01:06:27):
Oh,
look, I gotta get out of here.
Looks at his watch, pats
his shoulder. See ya, bud.

Leif (01:06:39):
Got my real son here. The king of nyu.

Steve (01:06:42):
I've already got one. He's way cooler. He
doesn't have to lie about where he goes to school or stalk
people with letters.

Leif (01:06:50):
So that is it for Stockwatch. Let's go ahead and
get into the best outfit, but
here's the best outfits.

Steve (01:06:57):
From the last episode we've
seen.

Leif (01:07:03):
For me. Gothic Barbie. The gold
and black bandage dress from Emilia Pucci. The
silver ankle boots, the diamond cross paired with the classic
pearls. Even the hair and the makeup worked for me. She looked
like a character from a Tim Burton movie.

Steve (01:07:16):
Yep. I have the same. I have the
same thing she. That premiere dress
was just. It
popped. And the whole look, the whole look, the
whole look. And like you mentioned last week, and I didn't
notice it until this week, that the outfits
haven't been as eye

(01:07:36):
popping as they were. And this one
just jumped off this, jumped off
the screen. And you, you have that.
I like to have that head cannon that. She made it.
You know that even though we know that it was
a, design dress, my headcanon is.
Anything Jenny wears, Jenny made.

Leif (01:07:56):
I don't know if that's true anymore. She's living on the
Upper east side now. She's. She's moved to a deluxe penthouse in the
sky.

Steve (01:08:02):
That's right. She doesn't have to make her own stuff
anymore. She can. Yeah.
And that's disappointing because. Because
Rupus killed her dreams.

Leif (01:08:12):
Yeah.

Steve (01:08:14):
Way to go, Rufus. Now she could have had
the resources to do all of the shit that she wanted
to do. Great job. Good parenting. Fuck you,
Rufus.

Leif (01:08:24):
That is it for segments. What are you
plugging this week?

Steve (01:08:29):
I have been. First of all, I've been really
into Severance on
Apple tv. Great show. You should
definitely check that out if you're. If you haven't seen
it yet. Have you seen Severance?

Leif (01:08:41):
Not yet.

Steve (01:08:42):
It is cool. The acting in
it is really dynamic because
they kind of have to be. A lot of the
actors have to play two characters. Two versions
of themselves essentially. So it's really
well written, really good acting. I
highly recommend it.

Leif (01:09:02):
For me, I have been rewatching the hundred.
So go watch that. Kind of a cross between
Gossip Girl, Game of Thrones and Battlestar
Galactica. I love it. I mean,
it's got the bad CW acting, but I still love it.

Steve (01:09:16):
Spotted Cylons.

Leif (01:10:26):
And speaking of next week, we will be talking
about season three, episode five,
Rufus Getting Married. The
Max episode description reads, will Lily
and Rufus get married?

Steve (01:10:40):
See, I didn't read the description. I only saw the, Which is
really funny that it's called Rufus getting married. And then they say,
will they get married? Which
kind of makes it even more Rufus is. But is
it Delilah?

Leif (01:10:54):
Well, I haven't seen Rachel getting married,
but doesn't she not get married at the end of that movie?

Steve (01:11:00):
I couldn't tell you. I didn't. I haven't seen it either,
so.

Leif (01:11:04):
Well, until next time. You know you love us.

Steve (01:11:06):

Leif (01:13:46):
With you there.

Steve (01:13:50):
I saw a clip of Taylor Tomlinson, the
comedian, on her show, some kind
of late night show. She was like, oh, I can't wait to hear
what Vulture has to say about this one. I was
like, oh, I didn't realize they were
still a thing.
