Steve (00:01):
She's the fucking
worst. Just. Oh, your
roommate is a celebrity, so therefore she
must be.

Leif (00:10):
Yeah, and also so the previous
scene, education shouldn't be for sale, or
knowledge shouldn't be for sale, but in this scene, she's totally gatekeeping
it from. Is she even qualified?
Yeah, pick a lane,
lady. Pick a lane.

Steve (00:25):
Yeah, well, she can afford it.
What are you mad about?

Leif (00:39):
Hey, Upper east siders, and all you scandal loving listeners out
there, you just tuned into the non judging breakfast
pod where the coffee is strong, the waffles are
fresh, and the gossip is hotter than ever. My
name is Leif and I'm your seasoned Gossip Girl veteran.

Steve (00:53):
And I'm Steve. I'm the greenhorn, the
new kid on the block. The what am I
now? Leif, we're about three seasons in.

Leif (01:02):
When are you going to learn to have a little faith? Keep working and your
time will come.

Steve (01:06):
Fair enough. Just as long as I don't betray the one
person who trusts me more than anyone else.

Leif (01:11):
That's. That'd be a good idea.

Steve (01:14):
So here's the deal, folks. Leaf has been watching Gossip Girl
since it first aired, and I'm diving in for the first
time. And together, we're your dynamic duo,
bringing you all the drama, romance, and, um,
sometimes questionable fashion choices of this
iconic 2007 series.

Leif (01:31):
Grab your cocktails and your magnifying glasses, because each
week we're dissecting every juicy detail of the show
one episode at a time. We'll connect the dots,
uncover those sneaky little Easter eggs, and of course,
serve up some piping hot behind the scenes tea.
Oh, and expect some iconic fashion moments
too, because what's a deep dive without a little drama?

Steve (01:52):
And since we are all about inclusivity here at the non
judging breakfast pod, you can go ahead and pull up a
seat to this non judging breakfast table and go
ahead and grab your coffee, grab a mimosa, or
maybe go ahead and find Chuck's dealer. And let's dive
into this episode.

Leif (02:08):
All right, Pop the Champagne. It's the 50th
episode of the non.

Steve (02:12):
Judging breakfast pie
milestone episode.
Seriously? Most. I believe that
most drop off before 20
and we're like in a
small bracket at this point. 50 episodes is
a pretty big deal.

Leif (02:31):
We're almost halfway through the series. I believe there's like
113 episodes total. Okay,
so we're getting close to the halfway point.

Steve (02:39):
That's interesting
mostly because 113 episodes
and I know we're not even halfway through season
three, so I would think we'd be halfway through the
series, at the end of series season
three. But I guess some of
season six.

Leif (02:57):
Is only 10 episodes.

Steve (02:58):
I was gonna say I just saw, I guess, a later episode because season
one is short, too, so. So
season six, they're like, okay, let's wrap this up.
Okay.

Leif (03:09):
Yeah. The only reason why even God succeeds, because they.
Gossip Girl is like the. The first show for the
cw, right?

Steve (03:16):
Yes. It was their flagship show
when they launched. Right. And no
movie where six seasons in a movie is
really the goal. Right.

Leif (03:26):
We got six seasons in a reboot. No one
watched two reboots.

Steve (03:30):
Right. Is it just one? Oh, it's
Pretty Little Liars, I think has more than one reboot.
Okay. That's the one I'm thinking of. Uh,
I guess he had just one Gossip Girl reboot that
nobody watches that got a second season.

Leif (03:48):
So did you have any inkling going
into this episode that you were going to see Gina Torres?

Steve (03:54):
I saw her name in the credits, and I was
like, oh, wow, Zoe. That
was her name. Right? On, uh, Firefly. Yes.
She was also great in suits. I
used to watch suits. When. The first several
seasons. Phenomenal. She
is a spectacular actor.

(04:15):
That again, when we go back to those conversations
we had about being able to lose an actor in a
role, and I've never really seen her
do the same thing twice.
She always plays strong
women, but she always
has something different about them.

(04:36):
Some of them can pilot a spaceship or captain
a spaceship.

Leif (04:40):
So some are a higher being.

Steve (04:43):
Some are a higher being. That's right. When she was,
uh, the God, the goddess on
angel, she gave birth to herself. And
yes,
Joss Whedon's really messed up and has women
issues.

Leif (04:59):
To be fair, he was not the showrunner that season.

Steve (05:02):
That's true. That's true. Uh, because
that was season four and it was season
five that.

Leif (05:11):
Yeah, everything else was over.

Steve (05:12):
Yeah, everything else was over. And basically, the team of
Buffy, Firefly, and Angel all
converged on the best season
of any of it, in my opinion. That last
season of Angel, I agree. Pure gold.
But, yes, I was glad to see her. And
I kind of, after seeing this performance,
really kind of put her in that

(05:34):
Steven Root. I'll always talk about how much I love
Steven Root because you never see
him redo a character.
And I find that Gina Torres. I find
that Layne Meester does
that as well. So I.
I really appreciate that.

Leif (05:53):
I didn't realize how tall she actually was until seeing her next
to Vanessa. Yeah, she was towering
over Vanessa.

Steve (06:00):
Uh, yeah. It's funny because she plays A
lot of these roles with really big
men around her also, you
know, uh, especially in
Firefly where you have people like.
I can't remember the guy who played Jane's name.
Adam.

Leif (06:18):
Adam Baldwin.

Steve (06:19):
Adam Baldwin.

Leif (06:19):
Not related to the Baldwins.

Steve (06:20):
Not related to the Baldwins. But yeah,
Adam Baldwin is a. Is a really tall guy. Nate
Fillion's a pretty tall guy. I don't know about Alan
Tidyk, but I'm kind of assuming he's always sitting down.
And he was always sitting down because of course you
know how to get your spikes clean. You put them through
the wash too soon.

Leif (06:42):
Uh, we are here to talk about Gossip
Girls Season 3, Episode
6 Enough About Eve Original
Air Date October 19, 2009
Title was based on the movie all about
Eve, a 1950 movie starring
Bette Davis, Ann Baxter, George

(07:03):
Sanders, directed by Joseph
Manekwitz, and
yeah, Seemingly a timid but secretly
ruthless ingenue insinuates
herself into the lies of an aging Broadway star and her
circle of theater friends.

Steve (07:18):
I have not seen it. That
actually sounds interesting, that description to
me. I haven't seen it, but I've definitely heard
about it.

Leif (07:28):
I've seen parts of it. And yeah,
the opening dream is basically the opening scene of the movie.

Steve (07:34):
Mhm. I can't wait to talk about
that.

Leif (07:38):
This episode was written by Jake
Coburn. First episode officially written
by him, but he's been a story editor for every episode this
season. Okay. And it was directed by
John Stevens, who's all over the place now because he
was the writer for two episodes of. For Dan De
Floret. And he did also wrote three
episodes in season two and previously

(08:00):
directed Seder. Anything?

Steve (08:02):
Oh, okay. And is this also the guy that did
mostly cinematography work?

Leif (08:07):
Nah.

Steve (08:07):
Uh, okay, that was somebody else. That was last week.

Leif (08:09):
Okay, why don't you go ahead and read us that
vulture recap?

Steve (08:13):
All right. At first, Blair's mission
on last night's Gossip Girl seemed simple. She
was going to undermine Vanessa, who had been asked to
perform a toast at a school sponsored
dinner for a group of parents. But
Vanessa, who saw the stuffy dinner being
her one chance to get her jerk hippie family to
love her, reacted with uncharacteristic

(08:36):
vehemence to defend her position,
sparking a cold war of lies, deception,
and real politic, one that
ultimately bore a human cost. In
the end, Vanessa left Dan and
Olivia feeling betrayed, her mother feeling
insulted, and Rufus and Lily feeling
awkward. Blair alienated not just

(08:58):
everyone at the party, but her best ally,
Chuck. Meanwhile, uptown, Nate
was using similar Means to conduct an elaborate
scheme to discredit the rival Buckley
family, using Serena as a pawn. The
plan works, but she's upset and therefore
makes the wrong face at, uh, Carter.
A variation of that O shaped mouth thing she always

(09:21):
does, which causes him to run away to an oil
rig in Texas so that she'll stop pitying
him or something.
Watching him get into the town car that would
take him to years of hard labor. We, the
viewers were moved to make a similar face.
And it looks like this. And there's a capital O with an
umlaut. And no, it's not an umlaut for

(09:44):
an OTs. Um, not an
omelette. That's breakfast. So
I don't know what it's called over
an O, but there's two dots over this capital
O. I think I.

Leif (09:57):
Liked what Nate was just boring.

Steve (10:00):
Yes. Yeah,
most of my notes are, uh, Nate doesn't scream.

Leif (10:09):
So let's get into the episode. Act
one begins. No Gossip Girl blast.
But we have a dream sequence.
Blair is dreaming. And this is an. As I
mentioned, it's an homage to, uh, the title
reference of the movie All About Eve. In the dream sequence,
Vanessa receives an award that Blair clone clearly
wanted.

Steve (10:31):
Yes, I. And I didn't know
the movie. Right. I didn't understand.
I didn't realize it was a Betty Davis movie and
not a Hepburn movie. But on the second
watch, they tell you. Well, I. They
tell you right afterwards. I'm saying that when I first
watched. So on the second watch, when I knew that the

(10:51):
way that Blair is like,
this isn't right. This isn't who
I should be.

Leif (10:58):
Mhm.

Steve (10:58):
Where in her dream, she's recognizing
she's the wrong person.
I really thought that was well
done.

Leif (11:08):
And, um, Blair awakens from her nightmare, but Chuck is
there to reassure her that she will soon be the queen of
nyu.

Steve (11:16):
I love the
Chuck love for Blair
here. The tell me it isn't
Chateau because I know how much Walter
Charade. Charade. Tell me it's not charade because I
know how much Walter Matthau freaks you
out. And then she says, no, I was

(11:36):
an All About Eve. And he immediately that's not
Hepburn. So the whole. He knows
her so inside and out,
literally, I guess, but just knows her
so well that when she wakes up,
startled, she's having a bad
movie dream.

Leif (11:55):
Nate invites Serena to cousin Tripp's campaign headquarters
to let her know that the Buckleys are putting Carter into
forced labor. However, Nate
has a, uh, plan.

Steve (12:06):
I bet he came up with it himself. Yeah.

Leif (12:10):
Not from the grandfather at all.

Steve (12:12):
Yeah. Tripp is running for congress. I think
that's kind of a neat element
for Nate. I like that there's something for Nate to
do with his cousin
running for office. But Nate
doesn't scheme.

Leif (12:28):
Yeah, he should be out there shaking hands and making
friends.

Steve (12:31):
Yes. He's not the behind the scenes. He's not
the fixer. Yeah, he's.
He. He's meant to be one of these
politicians one day. He's not meant to
be the fixer
at the loft.

Leif (12:46):
It looks like Rufus is deciding what to take to Lily's. Now
that they are married. We learn that Vanessa is making an
impression at nyu. Rufus suggests that she invite
her parents to the freshman dinner. Dan thinks V
is a shoo in to give the toast, but she is suffering from self
doubt. Everyone also encourages Dan to invite
Olivia to the dinner to meet the family.

Steve (13:07):
Um, this whole scene
was very quick fire. There
was.

Leif (13:13):
Yeah, a lot of stuff going on.

Steve (13:14):
A lot of stuff going on. Was this coming back from a
hiatus? I didn't look at the. From the
dates, but was this coming back
from.

Leif (13:24):
I don't think so.

Steve (13:26):
Like, uh, sweeps or something? The only reason I
ask is because the. Hey, Rufe is howl's married
life. Those kinds of lines aren't
always a week to week, but more often. Uh, let's
recap what happened a while ago. Although
back then when things weren't streaming yet,
they still had those week to week

(13:46):
updates. But I. I did just kind of have that
thought right now as we were talking. And
like I said, it was very quick fire. First, the. Let's remember
that they're getting married. Okay. Rufus is
moving out now.

Leif (14:00):
Officially.

Steve (14:01):
Officially moving in with Lily. Pulling out albums,
packing up welcome back cotter mugs.
And then we get to the Vanessa stuff that she's honored in
the paper and that she's going to give this
speech at nyu. And then
we get the Olivia stuff. The. You should bring her to
the dinner.

Leif (14:19):
People like you. You better if it's me. Your family.

Steve (14:22):
I. I actually wrote that line down. People
like you more when they've met your. When they've met our
family. Bam. Um, and Dan. I love
how Jenny says that. And Dan's like,
yeah, fair.

Leif (14:35):
Now, not just this episode, but like the last few
episodes. Those welcome back Katara modes
a bit all over the place. They have more of a storyline than Eric
does. It wasn't in the episode
at all.

Steve (14:47):
Yeah, uh, you're absolutely right. And
they've. They've now Been mentioned at least three or
four times in the past few episodes.
We.

Leif (14:58):
We get it.

Steve (14:59):
You have welcome back Cotter mugs,
and they looked plastic.

Leif (15:04):
Nate's big plan is for Serena, who have, uh, we
have never seen playing cards, to play poker with PJ Buckley to
win Carter's freedom. Serena rightfully has
doubts, but Nate claims Brie told him all of
PJ's tells.

Steve (15:17):
Again, Nate, this isn't. This isn't
your wheelhouse. Also, is
it so bad that Carter is being
sent to work off his
$500,000 debt on an oil
rig? He's.

Leif (15:31):
Well, I think it's a little more than $5,000.

Steve (15:34):
Five hundred thousand?

Leif (15:34):
Yeah.

Steve (15:35):
He says half a million. Nate at some point says half a million.

Leif (15:38):
Well, I think it's also implied that he's going to get beat up while he's there, too.

Steve (15:41):
I, uh, got the impression it was more of a. Here's, uh, a
tough, grueling labor job, and if he doesn't
cooperate, he gets beat up
mostly. And I guess a lot of that comes from his reaction in
the end, like, no, I'm going to go work off my debt.
And that is sort of
what gets in the back of my head of, this
guy does owe them a lot of money and did

(16:04):
do something pretty shitty, so them wanting
him to come work it off.
I mean, I'm kind of not super mad about
that with it. Mostly because of his reaction in the
end. Yeah, I guess when it was still
forced labor, I wasn't okay with it.

Leif (16:20):
And they're like, it was. The line is something about
they want to get him around a bunch of Texas
roughnecks.

Steve (16:26):
Oh, okay. I don't. I don't think I caught that
line.

Leif (16:30):
So I think it's implied that he's going to be taking, like,
weekly beatings, but maybe
not.

Steve (16:36):
Okay, I'm back. Okay with it again.
Forced labor, I'm not okay with. But beating
Carter Basin weekly.
I'm, um. I'm at it.

Leif (16:48):
Blair is in the dorms, flanked by her minions.
They are discussing the article about Vanessa. When they run into
her in the halls, Vanessa gets a bit
cunty and rubs it in Blair's face that Mr. Ellis
just asked her to give the freshman toast.

Steve (17:02):
Yeah, I mean, Blair comes in in a
horrible dress. I hated that
dress just because I didn't like the cut on it. I thought it just
made her body shape
indiscernible, almost the black against
the grayish. The grayish, like, diamond. Oh,
yeah.

Leif (17:19):
It was a box dress.

Steve (17:21):
Yeah. I did not like Made
my mind my like eyes. Bewitched.

Leif (17:26):
Believe that was Ellie Sad.

Steve (17:28):
Oh, okay. Sorry Ellie.
And Blair is also here with her new minions, who
actually had a little more of a role
in this episode, despite
that they are incredibly hard
to find on the Internet. I tried
looking up the actors who played them. They're not

(17:49):
listed on the wiki. With the other recurring
actors who were in the episode.
I tried just googling season
three Minions, Gossip Girl.
All I come up with is Penelope,
Hazel, Nelly Yuki.

Leif (18:05):
That you go on imtv?

Steve (18:07):
Yeah, I went on imd. Well, yeah,
I did, but did I.
But not through Gossip Girl guy. I'll give it another
check. But yeah, I looked all over and could
not find the.
The. The new minions.
And I was actually also surprised that not only could I not

(18:28):
find the. The college minions whose names are
currently.

Leif (18:31):
Escaping me, Amalia and Sophie.

Steve (18:34):
Amalia and Sophie. I all. They all. There was
also no mention of Jenny's Minions, who
I'm assuming aren't going to have
a huge role
this season but will be coming back
eventually.

Leif (18:50):
We shall see. Olivia is back from
Japan. She has just given Dan an early iteration
of a smartwatch, and Dan invites her to the
dinner to meet his parents.

Steve (19:01):
Yeah, Olivia is really into Dan and
you really see how excited
she is to have a normal
relationship. And with a guy
who doesn't care about all of the
other yeah, bullshit
and wants to meet his
parents, not his publicist.

Leif (19:22):
Indeed. Vanessa leaves a
voicemail for her parents inviting them to dinner.
Gossip Girl chimes in with
careful, Vee, don't send out your invitations just
yet. We hear another girl has her eyes on the
prize.

Steve (19:38):
Yeah. Uh, and it's interesting because of course
the red herring is that it's between Vanessa
and Blair this whole time. And now we're
like, blair was never in the running
for this. Blair's not even a consideration.

Leif (19:52):
We're not to that scene yet.

Steve (19:54):
Well, I'm saying that we now know that because
the it was made clear two people
are up for this. Vanessa is
definitely one of them. And then we see it
go to the other one who is not
Blair. Mhm. And that's what triggered that. It was like,
oh, the other person isn't Blair.

(20:16):
Blair's not the second choice. Vanessa's the second
choice. Olivia is the first choice.

Leif (20:23):
You saw, uh, uh, you saw Jeta Torres's name in the
credits. Did you recognize her voice on the voicemail?

Steve (20:28):
Yes. Yeah, instantly.

Leif (20:31):
And Blair is in a room with the minions rattling off names
of historical leaders. It looks like Blair is Having
them research quotes because she is confident she will be the one
giving the speech. Gossip Girl
continues, though things are rarely as simple
as they appear. Yeah,
and then Olivia calls Mr. Ellis, and we
find out that she was the other girl for the toast. And of

(20:54):
course, they want, uh, the Hollywood starlet to give the
speech over Vanessa. Gossip Girl takes us to the act
break with. And
something tells me we're in for a show.

Steve (21:06):
Oh, that's why. Okay, I thought that was that
other scene. Might be. Sorry I spoiled
ahead of it, but yeah, this is okay. So this is
where we learn Blair is
not in the running. The second choice. Yes,
my bad.

Leif (21:21):
And we go into Act 2. Blair is
meeting with Mr. Ellis and pleading her case to be the one to make
the toast. However, Blair learns that she is, at
best a distant third choice.

Steve (21:33):
And I thought you were talking about this scene
before. Anyway, he doesn't like you.
Blair, this guy is
not. This guy is in no way,
shape, or form charmed by
anything you're bringing to the table.

Leif (21:51):
And why would he be?

Steve (21:52):
Why would he be?

Leif (21:54):
As Blair exits the office, Vanessa is just getting off the
phone with her mom, who, it looks like, is coming to town.
Blair manipulates Vanessa into thinking she has to
take Olivia down.

Steve (22:04):
Vanessa, you're so fucking dumb.
You know, Blair is
always, always up to something.
You know, you never trust her, and yet you just
let her play you in
real time, knowing you were
being played and you just went
along with it instead of just doing the normal

(22:27):
Vanessa, uh, moral thing and going,
hey, I heard you got that
speech. I was supposed to give it.
I'm kind of bummed about it. Have
the grown up conversation that Vanessa always tries
to do. But no, instead you're gonna
fucking fall for Blair's
bullshit. Yeah.

Leif (22:48):
Not a good episode for Vanessa.

Steve (22:51):
No, no, not a good episode
for Vanessa. And an, uh,
episode where Vanessa could have
really shined. Yeah.

Leif (23:02):
And this moment right here, Honest.

Steve (23:05):
Yes. Right this moment right here,
she decides to have a bad episode by
deciding to let Blair into her
head.

Leif (23:15):
Nate and Serena get off a freight elevator to find a
bar and poker table set up in what looks like an under
construction warehouse. Looks like Serena is playing
PJ heads up for 25k
when first.

Steve (23:29):
First of all, he drops the
25k and Serena's like, that's a lot of money.
Is it, Serena? Now, I would
think that's a shit ton of money.
But to you guys, Serena, you
spend more than that in the summer gallivanting around
Europe. Do you. Do you.

(23:51):
Do you realize how much you spend on a
daily basis. You
have drivers in your employee
who probably
make just barely over that
in a year because you just
throw that money out

(24:11):
as it is. Mhm.

Leif (24:13):
Vanessa is almost as bad at lying as a Humphrey.
But luckily for her, Dan is as gullible as a small
child. She successfully convinces him to
disinvite Olivia from the meeting the parents in favor
of a more low key romantic dinner for two.

Steve (24:28):
Yeah, Vanessa sucks, Dan. Don't thank
her. She. She sucks. And
she's again, she's clearly up to something.
Oh, Dan does read it. Dan does read her.
And then she lies again.
So don't thank her, Dan. She
sucks.

Leif (24:46):
Things are not looking up for Serena at the poker game.
It's time to up the stakes. If Serena wins,
Carter's debt is forgiven. However, if
she loses, the Buckleys get a picture of Tripp
holding a bong.

Steve (24:59):
When Nate re ups and buys back in,
he drops half the amount of cash that he
dropped when he first bought in. I also think
it's interesting that the 10,000, the
$25,000 around
this time. Poker
was huge.
Um, it was on ESPN and it

(25:22):
was. I, uh, mean it still is, but there was
that point between in the
early 2000s where Texas Hold'em just
went crazy and all the big
tournaments were about a $10,000 buy
in. And so I think that it's interesting that the
25,000, it's like people know
what the stakes usually are. We've got to make it a lot

(25:44):
more than that.

Leif (25:46):
In their dorm room, Vanessa and Olivia are talking
about Dan backing out on the meet the parents dinner.
Olivia gives Vanessa a present she brought back from
Japan. Vanessa is showing signs of guilt.
However, that doesn't stop her from stepping out into the hall
to accept the toast and rub it in a minion's
face. So uh, Patty.

(26:06):
So Patty.

Steve (26:07):
Yeah, yeah. And only
fuels what Blair will do when you do
that shit.

Leif (26:14):
The minion quickly runs into Blair's room and gives her the
update about the toast. Phase one is complete. It
sounds like phase two involves bringing back Chuck and Blair's
sex game from the summer.

Steve (26:25):
Yeah, Blair is scheming and she is in
full swing. Blair is in her
element doing Blair shit.
And it's funny, I
recently in preparing some
tiktoks, uh, for sort of a
season two recap like we discussed.
I was listening back to some of our

(26:46):
old episodes and
there's this time where I was
like, I don't like how
Catherine is
steamrolling Blair and had Blair
on her heels. So Much. And you
said, this is Blair now. This is the
character of Blair. And

(27:08):
it really shines in this
season, right, that Blair
is constantly playing from behind
and constantly trying to catch
up and is completely out of her
element in this season.
And to see her
gain this traction

(27:29):
in the bulk of this
episode, you
almost think she's going to get away with it. You
almost think, wow, Blair is back up to her
old shit and she's
flying high. And I thought,
uh, without going into what happens later in the episode,

(27:49):
I just think that that really was a reflection of
this season, is a reflection of that side of Blair that
is always playing from behind. Yeah.

Leif (27:59):
Back at the poker game, Nate gives Serena the
nod to go all in. However, uh, looks like he got
PJs tells mixed up because Serena goes down
again and PJ gets the picture of Trip.
Gobs with girl. Brings us to the act break with,
oh, looks like Carter is going down to
Texas and Trip's career is going up in

(28:19):
smoke.

Steve (28:20):
Yeah, that. That photo of. Of
Tripp smoking cannabis
from a bong on his
bachelor party.

Leif (28:32):
I think this is kind of referencing, um,
Michael Phelps. There's a big
hubbub about him holding a bong.

Steve (28:40):
Yeah, yeah.

Leif (28:41):
Around this time.

Steve (28:41):
Yes. Very similar photo, too. Is this.
Is this zero nines right
now? Right. So, 09.
Obama's President Obama
at this point has admitted to smoking weed. He
admitted it on the campaign trail.
And because it has been
such a joke since Clinton,

(29:04):
the I tried it, but I didn't
inhale fiasco. Also,
we had George W. Bush,
who was like a, uh, cokehead in
college. So at this point
in New York City, I
really don't think a bong, if he was,
you know, doing rails off a hooker,

(29:26):
Sure, I could see that still being a
problem. Not today.
Probably not as big a deal today. I
expect our politicians are doing rails off of
hookers most of the time anymore.

Leif (29:40):
Why you become a politician.

Steve (29:42):
Right. That's why. Become a politician. If I
can't get cocaine and hookers,
maybe a little ketamine.

Leif (29:51):
Act three begins. Vanessa and her
mother, Gabriella arrive at Lily and
Rufus's penthouse, and Gabriella
teases Rufus about the new digs. However,
Gabriella gets much more serious Barb in
when the talk of NYU comes up.

Steve (30:07):
First of all, what's up, Zoe? Shout out. Shout
out to Gina Torres. Again.
I hated her. I thought she did.

Leif (30:15):
Yeah, she was worse than Vanessa.

Steve (30:17):
Yes. I actually think I have a note
somewhere of I know where Vanessa gets it from. Yeah, I see where Vanessa
gets it. From. And this is a little later. This
is when she. Her later scene when she
talks about Olivia. But
the whole concept of this. First
of all, I'll, uh, also say I didn't realize NYU

(30:37):
was a private school. I thought it was
either a public school or sort of like temple, where it
was like state affiliated. So
I didn't realize NYU was a
private school. That's
weird to me because
it just is. But, uh, that being

(30:58):
said, Vanessa, going to a
private school, you have these parents who
are clearly very educated
people. Where'd you go to college?
Did you, uh. And maybe they went to public
schools, maybe they went to state schools. Did you go for
free? Did you take out student loans? Or did you

(31:18):
go for free? Because any college you went
to, you paid for it. Unless you were
getting full scholarships,
but someone's still paying for it. It's still not free.
You still are. Uh. Oh, well, I didn't pay for it. I was
on a sports scholarship. You paid for it with your
body for as long as you played those
sports.

Leif (31:40):
You bring that up and we've kind of speculated
the past that maybe Vanessa isn't as poor
as she seems. Another thing that kind
of popped up in the scene that might lend it to that.
We also talked about how all the Upper east
side parents call the boys by their
full names. Daniel Nathaniel

(32:00):
Charles.

Steve (32:01):
Yeah.

Leif (32:01):
Rufus calls him Dan. Nate.

Steve (32:04):
Yeah.

Leif (32:04):
Gabriella asked about Daniel. Will
we be seeing Daniel today?

Steve (32:09):
That's. That is really interesting.
And it, because it does, has
always made that distinction between the.
The Upper east side and Brooklyn parent
parenting. It also
is a level of detachment and a level
of connectedness. Mhm. I know that
Nate wants to be called Nate because he's been

(32:32):
in my house and I hung out with him and listened to him.

Leif (32:35):
Yeah.

Steve (32:35):
So I call him Nate. I know. I listen to my kid and
he talks about Chuck, so I know he's Chuck.
And so it demonstrates
not only the division in
stature almost, but also the division
in being close with your
kids. Mhm. Which obviously the woman

(32:56):
who doesn't have any contact with her
daughter for two and a half years is
not very close with her kid. She also mentions that she just
got back from traveling. So again, like, these
are wealthy people, wealthy educated
people. I will go on record as
also saying I believe higher

(33:16):
education should be free. I don't
believe private universities should be free, but I
do believe state colleges should be
free. That's a personal belief. I'm
not as an educator.
And having said that, if my
kid wanted to go to A private, uh, school and could
afford it, then I'm not going to shit on

(33:38):
them. But it's even more hypocritical when
the knowledge you had isn't
free. You're out here fighting for union workers.
What are you doing? Are you a community organizer? Where did
you learn how to do that? Are you lawyers?
Yeah.

Leif (33:54):
So many questions.

Steve (33:55):
Yeah, it's just so.
I'm 100% opposed to
putting my shit on my
kids. And parents who put their
shit on their kids
suck. And we all, uh. Every parent does it. And
I know I have done it and I still do it. But
it's a goal to not

(34:16):
do, and especially not
openly show disappointment in a decision
they are confident is good for them,
and they do that. My kids make decisions, and I'm
like, ooh, I don't like that decision. I'll
voice my opinion on what they're doing,
but they make the decisions, and I

(34:37):
support what they are doing.
The level of just shittiness
from this parent just this whole episode
drives me nuts.

Leif (34:48):
At a bar, Chuck and Blair are discussing getting
back to their game. The target, as you may have
guessed, is Mr. Ellis.

Steve (34:57):
Yes. Chuck doesn't
hesitate. I know early on
we talked about, uh, Chuck being bi
in the books and how it was
kind of a missed opportunity for the show.
At the same time, he's very
confident walking up to this man and
knows that he can seduce this man. And

(35:20):
so it really does kind of lend
into. With other things he says later
in this. It lends into the fact that
there is a
bisexual. He's on that spectrum
somewhere, which I.

Leif (35:35):
Think McKinsey scale or something.

Steve (35:37):
The Kinsey scale. Yeah, he. Yes,
exactly.

Leif (35:40):
And definitely not all the way at the hetero end.

Steve (35:42):
Right? Exactly, exactly.

Leif (35:45):
Serena feels horrible about ruining Trip's
campaign and wants to help Nate talk to the grandfather about it, but
Nate pushes it off. Nate takes a call from the
grandfather and reveals to the audience that the picture was a
setup. Unfortunately for Nate, Serena
overhears as well. Presumably they both know
about the plan. And you're on the phone. Why
do you take out the picture and talk

(36:08):
about over the phone?

Steve (36:09):
Right. Yes, well, and it's.

Leif (36:12):
Although, just say the plan's working.

Steve (36:14):
Although, tell me that's not the most neat thing
to do. Or, hey, granddad, the plan to,
uh. The plan to disparage the Buckleys.
It's in full effect. The fake picture that we sent
them. Yeah, they believed it. And I have the real picture
right here in my pocket. See? Nate,
Shut. Shut the fuck Up. Put that. Oh,

(36:34):
get rid of that. Shut the fuck up.

Leif (36:38):
At the penthouse, Rufus, Lily,
Gabriella and Vanessa are enjoying pastries with
Gabriella's rhubarb jam. Gabriella,
who hasn't even met Olivia, begins shitting on her for being
a shallow celebrity.

Steve (36:51):
She's the fucking
worst. Just, oh, your
roommate is a celebrity, so therefore she
must be.

Leif (37:01):
Yeah. And, uh, also, so the previous
scene, education shouldn't be for sale, or
now it shouldn't be for sale. But in this scene, she's totally gatekeeping
it from. You know, is she even qualified?
Yeah, pick a lane,
lady. Pick a lane.

Steve (37:16):
Yeah, well, she can afford it.
Like what?
What are you mad about?

Leif (37:23):
Uh, yeah.
Olivia calls Vanessa, who once again lies and
tells Olivia that Dan didn't want Olivia to meet his parents
because they would hate her.

Steve (37:34):
This is where I wrote. I can see where Vanessa gets it
from. Her mom is shitty at all. Everything
except her timing on walking in on Vanessa.

Leif (37:45):
Back at the bar, Chuck is flirting with Mr.
Ellis. Blair waits in the wings and watches as Chuck
repeatedly tries to keep Mr. Ellis at bay.
Blair only swoops in after Chuck fails to stop Mr.
Ellis from kissing him. As Blair chases
after Mr. Ellis, we learn that this was of course
a setup so Blair could get the toast.

Steve (38:05):
For the Tribeca scavenger hunt.

Leif (38:07):
Yeah, number 27.

Steve (38:09):
Number 27 on the Tribeca scavenger hunt.
I also think that it's
interesting that the
game itself, there was never a kiss.
Blair always interrupted. Mhm. And when
she sat there waiting until the
kiss to barge in, it

(38:29):
was like, what the fuck are you doing?
Why did you wait? And then as soon as they get out there
and she smacks him and then he turns around
and we see that it's all a scheme. It's like,
damn, you roped Chuck into this.
Oh.

Leif (38:45):
Vanessa ignores Blair's call and
Gabrielle sort, uh, of apologizes to Vanessa
and promises to keep an open mind about tonight.
I say sort of because she never actually says I'm sorry.
Yeah, but it had to feel the
apology scene.

Steve (39:01):
Yeah, Parents on, um, this are
terrible at apologies.

Leif (39:06):
Dan burns the chicken and Olivia convinces him to go
to the dinner party after all. Gossip Girl tells
us. As for
Lonely Boy, I suspect tonight is going to be a
strictly a family affair to
remember.

Steve (39:22):
Yeah, I don't really have much on this. I
maybe still would have eaten some of that chicken. Like, cut
away the skin. I think underneath there are parts of
it that were probably still pretty good. Two seasons ago, Dan would
have been like, here you go.

Leif (39:38):
Act four begins at the party,
Blair finds Vanessa and rubs Mr. Ellis's flip
flopping in her face. Vanessa begs
Blair to not to steal the speech.

Steve (39:48):
Oh, Vanessa. I also
had. This is I think when I had the realization
Blair's parents aren't even
there. Yeah. They're not even showing up to this
thing.

Leif (40:01):
Dan introduces Olivia to Rufus and Lily.
Olivia starts acting very out of character and tries to
big time Lily with her insider connections.

Steve (40:09):
Yeah. Olivia, what are you doing?
How is this how you. Oh, yeah.
Dan is worried because his parents don't
like vapid Hollywood
celebrities. You know what I'll do to show
them I'll be exactly what they
don't like. Who? How is
that? Yeah. Your logic.

Leif (40:30):
And also try to big time Lily. Really? I mean, she's
like best friends with a major designer, has been a
Manhattan socialite for over 20 years.

Steve (40:38):
Lily could probably fucking crush you.

Leif (40:41):
Is apparently best friends with Mayor Bloomberg, who is
richer and more famous than most celebrities.

Steve (40:46):
Yeah. Huh. That
Olivia girl, she irked me. I'm gonna buy
the production company doing her next four films
and shut them down and then sell them at a profit.
Yes.

Leif (40:59):
Chuck's plans are canceled, so he also shows up to dinner
party. Amalia, uh, starts to blab about Blair's
plan, but stops herself too late as Chuck sees Blair
and Mr. Ellis chatting it up like a couple of
besties.

Steve (41:11):
I love the. Chuck calls her a minion.
Hey, you're one of the. You're one of the new minions,
aren't you?

Leif (41:18):
Yes.

Steve (41:18):
Where is she? Where's Blair?

Leif (41:21):
Serena confronts Nate about his lies.
Nate finally reveals the true plan to discredit the
Buckleys. Serena promises that Nate is going to
regret lying to her as she walks off, cell phone in
hand.

Steve (41:33):
The way that he's like, I'm sorry for lying to you. And she's like, you
will be. And it's like, oh, God, it's going to be. It's
vengeful Serena. We're going to get
another hand spoonful of vengeful Serena. I'm not
mad, but as we
see.

Leif (41:48):
Her walking off the scene ends. We clearly hear
calling information. Do we really
think PJ Buckley would have a listed number?

Steve (41:59):
I also want to point out that once
again, Nate is just being
used by people. He is just.
And it's often his family.
And here his grandfather is just using
him to help Trip
win this campaign, and

(42:20):
Nate just is blind to it.

Leif (42:22):
Family helps family.

Steve (42:23):
Yeah.

Leif (42:24):
At the party, Olivia is still acting weird and out of
character when Dan pulls her aside to ask her what
the fuck is going on? Once they actually communicate
with each other, they, they quickly figure out that Vanessa lied to both of
them. Um, just as they come to this realization, they
spot Vanessa stealing the microphone.

Steve (42:42):
Yes, I, I again reiterate. Why
are you acting like this? And
it's good that they finally talk to each other and
have that conversation. They should have had that
conversation at the house. Olivia should have asked
Dan why. Dan should have asked Olivia why
if that was on their mind.

Leif (43:02):
Well, Vanessa just kept getting in there at the right, just at
the right moment to tell another lie.

Steve (43:07):
Exactly. Or to put another thought in their heads.

Leif (43:09):
Yeah, uh, going back to, um,
Olivia's plan, I think she's basically just pissed off
that Dan. She thinks Dan's embarrassed by her,
so she's just blowing up.

Steve (43:19):
Yeah, yeah, I, I, I do see that side of
it too.

Leif (43:24):
Backstage, Vanessa hides the microphone and tricks
Blair into revealing her true feelings about her own
superiority and also the fact that she lied to
Chuck. Just, uh, talk into my
purse.

Steve (43:36):
Yeah. Vanessa, why do you think you're
so much better than me? And please talk directly toward my
purse. No, no, louder. I'm going to move it
closer. Now tell me. Ha.
Huh? Wait, there was a
microphone in there.

Leif (43:52):
Blair steps out onto the stage and everyone
silently judges her, including Chuck, who turns away in
disgust. Vanessa momentarily cracks an
evil grin until she is quickly confronted by a
pissed off looking Dan and Olivia. Gossip Girl
quips, Sorry,
ladies. Les jeux sans fait.

(44:12):
Thanks for playing each other.

Steve (44:15):
Yeah, you two fucked up. You
two fucked up. You went at each other
and you both fucked.

Leif (44:22):
I love how disappointed Rufus was.

Steve (44:24):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Leif (44:29):
If you're curious, the les jusant fe, the
literal translation is so les jus means the
games or the plays, and san fe
means are made. But the more accurate
translation would be the bets are placed.
Something, uh, you would hear at a Monte Carlo casino before a game of
roulette.

Steve (44:46):
M. I can't remember if it's here or if it's
right after where Rufus, where Rufus says, was that
Blair? Someone really should have looked over that speech for
best Rufus line
in a while because I, uh, because,
you know, Rufus hates Blair.
Rufus has never liked her and,

(45:08):
um, for good reason. But that was so funny.

Leif (45:12):
Act five begins.
Vanessa confesses that she is the worst to Dan and
Olivia. Gabriella walks up behind Vanessa
just in time to hear Vanessa say she wishes Rufus and Lily were
her parents.

Steve (45:24):
Her date just can't get any fucking worse.
She's like, man, all this stuff, but my
parents just totally fucking Suck and they're the worst
and I wish that your parents were mine
oh, hi. Uh, m. My mom's right behind me, isn't she?

Leif (45:41):
Lily helps Blair realize just how much she
up with Chuck. Lily advises Blair to give Chuck
a night to lick his wounds.

Steve (45:49):
Lily being.
And Lily being an awesome
mom again to someone who's not her
kids. But also Lily just coming in
there very much. I
understand ambitious women.
Like, this is Lily's life.
She has never judged Blair for all of her

(46:11):
bullshit and schemes. She sees Blair for what
Blair wants to be. I think that this
scene really kind of
reestablished the relationship between the two of
them and put
Lily in more of a mentorship
role. Uh, because here is this

(46:31):
power. Lily is everything
that Blair wants to be.

Leif (46:36):
Yeah.

Steve (46:37):
And so for everything you want to be, to
be like, you done fucked up. Go let him go. Lick
his wounds and call him tomorrow.
But if you don't get him back on your side,
you need someone that you trust, or you're
screwed.

Leif (46:55):
They kind of hammered home two themes in this episode.
One, communicate with your partner.

Steve (47:00):
Yes.

Leif (47:01):
Chuck.

Steve (47:01):
Blair.

Leif (47:02):
And Dan and Olivia.

Steve (47:02):
Yeah.

Leif (47:03):
And that too.

Steve (47:04):
And Nate and Serena.

Leif (47:06):
Yeah.

Steve (47:07):
If Nate would have gone. If Nate would have gone to Serena and been
like, here's the whole plan. Play along.
Serena would have done it.

Leif (47:15):
Maybe.

Steve (47:16):
Maybe. If it would have gotten.

Leif (47:19):
I don't think she would.

Steve (47:20):
I think she would have. If there was still a means of
getting Carter out.

Leif (47:24):
Yeah. But then the
second one is that Blair and Vanessa are basically two
sides of the same coin.

Steve (47:32):
Yes, very much.
And, uh, especially now that we're
seeing evidence that Vanessa
is even more wealthy than she's
ever portrayed. That it's
not that she couldn't go to college. Her parents
wouldn't pay for her to go to

(47:52):
college.

Leif (47:54):
Serena is lighting an abundance of candles in
anticipation of a romantic reunion with Carter.
Apparently, you can look a gift horse in the
mouth because Carter decides he would rather work on an oil
rig than to be pitied by Serena.

Steve (48:07):
Yeah. Yeah. Carter being real.
I actually respected this move. And this is at the
point where I was like. And now
also. Is this. Is this it for Carter? Oh,
okay. I'm, um. I'm always just waiting
for him to get the ax just because I know
it happened. I wasn't mad about

(48:28):
when he was clearly like,
no, I agreed to this. I need to
do this. I understood
him. I wasn't mad about it.
And, uh, especially the. Yeah, I
don't want you buying my way out of these problems.
And, yeah, I wasn't mad at Carter.

Leif (48:48):
Yeah, but the money was already spent.

Steve (48:51):
That's true. That is true.

Leif (48:53):
Vanessa, uh, chases down Gabriella to
apologizes. Gabriella tells Vanessa to take a
hard look at herself to figure out if she likes who this place is
turning her into.

Steve (49:02):
How do you know what this place
is turning your daughter into? You didn't hear the
speech. You saw one bit of bad
behavior that she was doing
last year when she was in high school, and you weren't
there to parent her. You're not even a parent to
her. What do you know what she
was before to say that this is what she's turning

(49:25):
into? You don't fucking know your kid. You don't have a
relationship with her. So save your disappointment
for someone who you actually raise.

Leif (49:35):
Rufus and, um, Lily, unsurprisingly, think Olivia
is the worst. Olivia is trying to apologize for her
earlier behavior when Mr. Ellis surprised her by
calling her up to give a toast. A young fan
asked for a selfie with Olivia.

Steve (49:49):
Cute. And it was funny.
And I. Yeah.

Leif (49:55):
Blair and Vanessa share a moment of solidarity as
Gossip Girl has this to say.
Nice try, ladies. You came out swinging, but
never stood a chance against a Hollywood heavyweight
who.

Steve (50:08):
Was never scheming at all, who was just
along for the ride. You both
schemed your way out of this and gave
it to the person they wanted to have do it all along.

Leif (50:19):
Anyway, we go into the
epilogue. Olivia is getting a second
chance at making an impression on the Vanderhumps,
this time with Jenny, but no Eric
Vanderhumps.

Steve (50:32):
I think that's the first time I've heard you say it.

Leif (50:35):
Because they're officially married now.

Steve (50:36):
Yeah, they are. It didn't, uh. It. It took me a second to be
like Vanderhumps in my mind. I immediately
heard Vanderpump, which Robin
loves. Vanderpump rules. The fact that I know
what Scandival is. Scam Deval
sand. Whatever. The Tom Sandoval
situation, the fact that I know that

(50:56):
name makes me want to play in
traffic. And I'll
be watching that show. Uh, I'll be doing something
at home, and Robin will be watching it. And I'll hear something,
and I'll relate or I'll hear it referenced in pop
culture somewhere. I'll be like, God damn it.

Leif (51:14):
Blair goes to Chuck's hotel room to apologize. But
Chuck isn't ready to forgive just yet.
We get a needle drop as we begin the episode.
Ending montage with Edward Sharp and the Magnetic
Zero's classic Pop Home.

Steve (51:27):
Um, I thought that this was Such an
interesting choice for a song
because you have these
people who. Their homes are not
homes. Right now Rufus is leaving
his home to a new home that he
doesn't feel comfortable in yet. He made that clear to

(51:48):
Gabriella. This is Lily's place. And Lily said,
no, this is our place. You have Blair,
who goes to seek Chuck, who
is his home. I mean, especially if you listen to
the lyrics to the song that that whole song has absolutely
nothing to do with a place, has to do with the people you're with
being your family.

Leif (52:06):
Yeah.

Steve (52:07):
And. And she goes to Chuck and Chuck isn't
ready. I was worried Chuck had someone in there with
him, but he closed the door and was alone. And I'm like,
okay, I. I thought there was going to be, um,
an orgy happening. He's
like, opens the door to talk to Blair, but
he's in solace because, you see

(52:27):
Chuck seriously hurt his point to
her.

Leif (52:31):
I know how you feel about the people you manipulate.

Steve (52:33):
Yeah. Oh, that's. That
is rough. That is
rough. And you also
have Vanessa, who we haven't gotten to her
next scene yet. But again, in with this
song where home being
family and her mom doesn't even stick

(52:54):
around, we see Vanessa has.

Leif (52:56):
Been stood up by her mom who already is already on the
road home. Gossip Girl chimes in with.
When it comes to family, we're all still children at
heart.

Steve (53:06):
Yeah, Zoe.
Zoe's a bad mom. Yes,
she was that. Ah, you didn't even go for you.
You had to skip town so you couldn't.

Leif (53:16):
Hey, New York traffic is rough.

Steve (53:18):
I mean, I know it, but like.

Leif (53:22):
Oh, man, do you really want to spend time with
Vanessa?

Steve (53:25):
Okay, fair, fair. I keep,
you know, I keep putting this as my kids. I keep thinking about
my kids and my kids are pretty fucking awesome.
So like, I keep thinking about when I go to Lockhaven. I'm m
definitely going to take Jake to the Texas
before I head out of town. I'm definitely
going to see him in the morning before I leave.

(53:45):
I keep thinking about my kids, who are really cool
and a lot of fun to be around and who don't
suck. Yeah. So I guess if I was Vanessa's mom, um,
I'd be pretty embarrassed just in general about what a,
ah, annoying person I created
in the first place.

Leif (54:02):
Brunch with the Vanderhumps appears to be going smashingly.
And even Serena is there now. Gossip Girl
continues. No matter how old we get, we
always need a place to call home.

Steve (54:13):
Um, I love how Rufus is instantly
over it. How it's not.

Leif (54:18):
He's got his. He's got his mugs now.

Steve (54:19):
He's got his mugs now.

Leif (54:21):
I love main characters.

Steve (54:23):
Yeah. I loved their reception at the
beginning of brunch of Olivia. And
I loved the little. Oh, yeah, Travolta has some of
those. Oh, I'm kidding.

Leif (54:34):
It's like, fuck, I can't.

Steve (54:36):
I don't want to actually be the person.
So I thought that whole thing was really cute. But I also
just loved Ruth, Rufus being like.
Yeah. Dan explained toppings.
I love that about Rufus is Rufus, uh,
embodies that unconditional forgiveness that a

(54:56):
parent has to have.

Leif (54:58):
As long as it's Dan.

Steve (54:59):
As long as it's Dan. Well, he forgave Jenny. It wasn't
unconditional.

Leif (55:03):
So we see
Chuck was lying about having a meeting. He just wanted to
drink alone. Gossip Girl continues.
Because without the people you love most.

Steve (55:14):
Yeah, I spoiled that.

Leif (55:18):
And then Carter is taking a town car to the oil
rig, and Gossip Girl continues. You can't
help but feel all alone in the world.

Steve (55:26):
At least you get a limo to your
oil rig job. They pick you
up. They pick you up at your house.
Yeah. To
drive you to the airport. Probably on a PJ
out to Texas to work off the debt.
It's costing you more. It's probably costing
them like a third of your debt just to get you to

(55:49):
Texas.

Leif (55:50):
Blair finds Vanessa and joins her at this
cafe. Gossip Girl concludes with.
Fortunately, Misery Loves Company.
Well, for now, at least.

Steve (56:01):
It was a great ending. The two of them sitting there
together. I really liked that. I really
liked they were losers together.
We saw it earlier when they stood together when
Olivia got the speech. And now we see it
here that the two losers are being losers
together because they fucked up so bad.

(56:22):
And now they realize that
and like you said, that they're two sides of the same coin.

Leif (56:28):
Uh, so this is the full Gossip Girl final
monologue. When it
comes to family, we're all still children at heart. No
matter how old we get, we always need a place to call
home. Because without the people you love most,
you can't help but feel all alone in the
world. Fortunately, misery loves
company. Well, for now, at least.

(56:49):
XOXO got some room.

Steve (56:54):
Yeah. Yeah. Good way to end
that good ending monologue.
I, I again, I love the choice of song. I guess
that would have, uh. The good choice of
song. That song would have just been getting
popular around then, because I know I heard
it by the end of that year. I heard it in, like,

(57:14):
November, December, that year for the first time.
And again it just really
hit that juxtaposition of
the people having a home and not having
a home and the
family being the home where you
really have Blair and Vanessa.
Vanessa's mom clearly sucks, but also Blair's

(57:37):
parents are mia. Like Blair was about to give
this big speech too. Blair was on the
ropes to give this big speech too. You're telling me that
Harold and Eleanor couldn't fly into
New York for a night. So they
both have really nobody. Uh,
that's their actual family.

Leif (57:57):
That is our episode. What's coming next.

Steve (58:01):
I'm wondering what the next steps for Blair
and Vanessa are. Especially since
in previous seasons we had the Vanessa episodes and
the non Vanessa episodes. But she's
really a, uh, full time at this point. She lives in the
same dorm as Blair. Mhm.
So I'm curious to see where that's
going. I believe that they might be on

(58:23):
a slight path to
a seeing eye to eye.
I think that that could make an interesting team up
in the future. I'm curious, I'm really curious
about Blair and Chuck. I'm wondering if this is the thing
that Chuck that Chuck doesn't
get past. And

(58:43):
so I think that this could be the thing to
break them up. All this time I was
sure it was going to be another person.
But I think this could do it. Or at
least uh, even if it doesn't
do it, it could lead to it that
now that trust has been broken. Mhm.

Leif (59:03):
Yeah. Once you glue that something back together, it's never
as strong as it used to be.

Steve (59:08):
Yeah. I also think Sabrina
is going after Nate right now. Sabrina
Serena.
I did that at home too. I kept calling her Sabrina for some
reason.

Leif (59:20):
In a sexy way or in a revenge way?

Steve (59:22):
In a revenge way. In a revenge way that
she's Sabrina.
Serena does not like to be
manipulated and used and does not take
kindly. And Serena is not,
uh, she's sort of girl Nate in a lot of
ways that it's the thing in front of her is the thing that

(59:43):
she's going to go after that kind of golden retriever thing.
And when she's angry, she just
gets blinded by it. Like what
she did to Chuck when Chuck hurt
her feelings and she ruined million dollar
business deals. And so I
think that right now Nate is

(01:00:04):
in her sights. Meanwhile, I think Nate is
a clueless Labrador
who's doing granddad's work because
grandfather said, Nate, I need you to do this
thing. And Nate just does it. Which is
what Nate has done all along is what he
Is told.

Leif (01:00:22):
Well, let's go ahead and get into some
segments this week in fan.
And we jumped into the Wayback Machine to visit the fan
forums from 2009.
Hello there, Peabody here. And this
is the Wayback Machine for traveling through time. And
this is my boy, Sherman.

Steve (01:00:41):
Speak German. Hello.

Leif (01:00:43):
Good boy. And
most people thought this was a pretty
bleh episode.

Steve (01:00:50):
Really. I enjoyed this
episode probably more than most of
this season so far.

Leif (01:00:57):
A lot of people saying Jenny needs to do more to
do.

Steve (01:01:01):
Yes. Verified
co sign.

Leif (01:01:05):
And, uh, yeah, there's also a lot of discussion on Taylor being wasted
on the show and some random shade being thrown at
Nina Dobrevs because they think, uh, Taylor should have been
Atlanta Vampire
Diaries started this year.

Steve (01:01:19):
Okay. So they thought that Taylor should
have.

Leif (01:01:22):
Been the main character of Vampire Diaries
because in the book, she's blind.

Steve (01:01:27):
Oh, okay. Now, I have
not watched Vampire Diaries and
so I'm assuming. So they wanted Taylor
to leave Gossip Girl to go be the main character on this other
show. And apparently. And now you're also saying that she was drunk
on the show. What was the first thing that you said?
I thought you.

Leif (01:01:45):
She's wasted on the show.

Steve (01:01:47):
Oh, see, I. When you first said that, I took that as
wasted.

Leif (01:01:51):
Her talent is wasted.

Steve (01:01:53):
Her talent is wasted. Okay.

Leif (01:01:56):
Because she has no storylines.

Steve (01:01:57):
Yeah, they haven't really been giving her much. And
she's electrifying everything she has done.
That little interaction with Olivia,
she's so cute in
it. The one liner.
Um, during the sewing
marathon, you can go. She
just owns what she does. So I can

(01:02:19):
understand that argument. But also,
she probably didn't really want to be on Vampire Diaries anyway
because at this point, she's pretty sick of
acting altogether.

Leif (01:02:29):
Her band is starting to take off.

Steve (01:02:30):
We. We were, uh. When we went up
to the baseball game yesterday, when we went to see the
Iron Pigs, a pretty reckless song came on
my playlist. And it was one of those songs like,
God, she's fucking pissed. And it was a
slow song, but it was just all about
being fucking used and manipulated to be an

(01:02:51):
actor. And like, that first
album has so much on it that it's
like, oh, she was not
happy.

Leif (01:03:03):
Um, that is it for this week in fandom. Let's move over
to episode grades.
You went first last time, so I'm going to go first this
time. I kind of agree with
the fans. This was a pretty middle of the
road episode. Give it a
slight bump because of Gina Torres, so

(01:03:24):
I gave it a C plus.

Steve (01:03:26):
Wow. Okay. I don't think we've been this
far off in a while. I actually gave this one an A
minus. I actually. I
liked the multiple schemes
happening. I kind of liked. I thought
Nate was less boring when he's not in a relationship and
doing this stupid shit. I thought that there

(01:03:47):
was a lot of. As, uh, I've clearly pointed
out, there were a lot of holes in
the ways things were presented. But
as far as being entertained by what's going on in Gossip Girl,
this really kept me in it the whole
time. And so.

Leif (01:04:02):
Fair enough.

Steve (01:04:03):
Yeah.

Leif (01:04:08):
Moving over to Stockwatch.
Going up. I had Dan and
Olivia because they worked it out in the end.
And, you know, Olivia's, uh, a star and gets
the speech. Mr. Ellis because he
gets to win the scavenger hunt.
And Lily because
she was much, much better this episode. She was really

(01:04:30):
open. And I would have given
Rufus enough, but I kept that in
neutral because he had his little doubts there at the beginning and
he tried to sabotage himself. But Lily's like that.
You can have your. Your bugs. It's all good.

Steve (01:04:45):
We are 100% in
agreement. I. I didn't do.
Give Rufus anything for the exact same
reason I gave Dan and Olivia the
bump for working it out. I gave Lily the
bump for her,
especially her interaction with Blair. If nothing
else, that alone just

(01:05:07):
skyrocketed. And Josh
Ellis, uh, for
coming out on top, getting the kiss and the speaker
he wanted in the first place,
going down.

Leif (01:05:19):
Blair.

Steve (01:05:20):
Blair.

Leif (01:05:21):
Chuck, because he got manipulated by the woman
he loves. Vanessa. He's
horrible. Gabriella. Even worse.
Carter, because he's going to an oil
rig. Serena, because she got manipulated and
didn't get Carter. And Nate because he tried to do
a scheme but ended up screwing it up at the end.

Steve (01:05:41):
Okay, I had one more than
you, but I had all of them.
Blair, Chuck, Vanessa.
Vanessa's mom, Carter,
Serena, Nate. I also had.
Is it Aubrey or Amelia?

Leif (01:05:57):
Um, Amalia.

Steve (01:05:58):
Amalia. I had Amalia because she literally got
demoted by Blair,
which, by rights,
it should promote the other one. But you're still a minion of Blair, so
you're staying neutral. And
those are my downs. Same as you, plus
Amalia. But here's the
best outfits from the last episode

(01:06:21):
we see.

Leif (01:06:24):
On to best outfit.
There's a lot of good outfits. Um, yeah. You didn't like the Ali
Saab dress? I did like that. My horny brain
kind of wanted to give it to Olivia for that, uh, bandage
dress. Because the damn one was. Or it's, like,
yellowish. Oh. Oh, my party.

Steve (01:06:42):
Yeah, I was thinking of the top.

Leif (01:06:43):
That she was wearing now. The bandage. Yeah, the bandage dress.

Steve (01:06:46):
Yeah. That was really nice.

Leif (01:06:47):
Yeah. But, uh, I wasn't a fan of the color so I
didn't ultimately give it to that. Even though she was showing everything
off.

Steve (01:06:55):
Age appropriately at this point.

Leif (01:06:59):
So for me, I want Blair's green zipper dress
from uh, Grace Sign with the gold necklace and the green
jewels.

Steve (01:07:05):
At the very end. Yeah.

Leif (01:07:06):
She wants to go apologize to Chocolate.

Steve (01:07:08):
That is the same one I had.
And for me it was when it really caught my eye,
was in full lighting when she walked into
the coffee house. The uh, cafe at the
end where. And with the shot
from the bust up with the. Where you really
see that necklace and it just kind
of shines against the dress and

(01:07:31):
that gold zipper and just the way that they paired up,
just eye catching. And also
one of those Blair everyday
stunning outfits that it wasn't her party
dress, it wasn't her show off stuff.
It's just her normal everyday outfits. I thought
she looked great.

Leif (01:07:50):
That is it for segments. Anything you want to plug

Steve (01:07:54):
