Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, I'm Norah Jones and today I'm playing along with
you guys. I'm just playing long, I'm just playing alone with.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Hi.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
It's just you and me and Sarah Oda over here. Hello,
how are you?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
I'm excited for this episode?

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Him two. This is gonna be fun.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
This is so fun. So we put a post up
on social media just asking for suggestions on guests and
you know, ideas, song requests that you guys have for us. Yeah,
we got a lot.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Of response, did we Because you told me not to look,
I did we.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
We wanted to keep this spontaneous.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
I got nervous that we get like not enough.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
So we got a whole bunch. So we're going to
try to get through as many as we can.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
That's exciting.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
We got a lot of repeat ideas.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yeah, I'm excited to get into it. We're just like
so excited to be doing this podcast. We've had so
much fun and the response has been so awesome that
people actually listen, So thanks for listening, because we had
so much fun doing it that it's like, well, if
nobody listens, we're just having so much fun doing it.
But the fact that people get it, yes and kind

(01:21):
of understand what it is. Yeah, seem to you know,
enjoy our weird brain ideas. Yeah, it makes me really happy.
We're finding our way. So we're thankful for any tips
from you guys on what we can do to make
it better.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah, thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Kind tips. Just a tip, just a tip.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
And also we will say that we have a very
long dream guest list ourselves. Oh my gosh, probably about
five hundred names. Yeah, it is so long, and so
it runs the gamut.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Yes, I would say for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
But it's nice to see that some of these suggestions
that y'all had were in line with what we were
thinking too.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Did you just say, y'all, yeah, who are you?

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Well? I think are you me? I'm becoming you? I
can't have a little bit country you know you are.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
I'm also, like I wanted to say, sometimes we listen
back to the podcast once it comes out. Have you
been listening to every episode after it comes out or
did you kind of stop doing that?

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Are you asking me if I podcast your bait every time?

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Yes I am. The answer is yes, every single time,
every single time.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
After editing it and putting it all together.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
It's a different experience to hear it.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
On the platforms.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah you do.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
You have a different platform you try every time.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Probably, I don't think I really even think about it.
I just great, go to it. Yeah, that's great because
it's available everywhere.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yes, podcasts, and don't forget to subscribe and like it
if you do. As I'm learning, that is kind of important. Yea,
like us, like us. But yeah, this is awesome. Yeah,
this is fun. Also, we are in our friend Pete's
little home studio with a fire going right at my feet.
It is delicious where we are right now.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
There's plants galore. Yeah, we have coffee.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
And we're stoked. Yeah, yes, all right, let's dive in.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
All right, what did you guys?

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Tell us? What did you want to say?

Speaker 2 (03:31):
So I'll start with some emails.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Oh yeah, let's hear emails.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
So this first email is from Jeffrey and he says,
hello there, big fan of the podcast. I look forward
to it every week. I love the intimate dialogues and
getting interesting insight into different songwriting processes. A couple dream
guests for me would be Dave Roll and Meryl Garbus.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Awesome.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Dave seems to interview so well and bring a lot
of fun wherever he goes, I've always loved the Foo
Fighters acoustic stuff from In your Honor, and it would
be great to hear Virginia Moon and I think Merril
is so vocally talented the jams and harmonies would be amazing.
So appreciative what you've made so far, and can't wait
for future episodes. Best.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
That's so nice, Jeff, Thank you, thank you, Jeff. Yeah,
thanks for taking the time to write. Nobody ever writes
letters anymore, and I think at this point people just
don't even write emails anymore.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah, it's true, it's kind of true.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
No, Yeah, I know that when I get a long email,
I don't even read it. An It's hard. It's so hard.
And I think I've had this conversation with every single
friend in my life about our attention spands being.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
So shorter and shorter.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Yeah, I do think it's the fault of our technology
and stuff. Its foes.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
But I will say the other day though, I like
had a quiet moment to myself and my brain. It's
kind of like when you eat a bunch of junk
food and all of a sudden you're like, I want
a salad. Yeah, like your body just my brain was
like I want to read a book, and you did well,
and then I have like, let me scroll and find
a good book, and then I got stuck and then
I was just scrolling.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
It's funny anyway.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Book recommendations, Yeah, yeah, send us some.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Book recommendations please. I feel like I just finished. I
just finished that book where the Crawdads saying.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Oh, which that was on my list.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Well, everybody read it like two years ago, so I'm
a little late.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah, I do that too. I watched the movie and
then like five years later. Yeah, I'm just late to
the party, all right. So this next email is from Chris.
Hi Chris, Hello, Nora and Sarah. I have absolutely loved
every single minute of the podcast. It has brought me
so much joy and so many incredible musical moments, just
jaw on the floor, incredible moments where I stop what
I'm doing and listen over and over and over again.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Oh my god, thank you.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Plus I've been introduced to new artists that I've never
heard before the pod cast. Yes, the podcast feels to
me like a true breath of fresh air, one of
the most real, raw, authentic, in the moment podcasts I
listen to. Thank you for using your energy and time
to make it and share it.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Oh thanks, so sweeze.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
So some artists I'd love to suggest would be Trey
Anastasio from Fish Awesome and his various side projects. Fish's
music has been the backdrop to so much of my life.
It's part of the tapestry of who I am. And
Trey is a genuinely nice human and has done so
much for so many people through his telling about his sobriety,
and he's a prolific storyteller and massive music nerd. My
geekdom would be off the charts.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Oh my god, that's a great suggestion. And we have
a friend whose geekedom would also be off the charts.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
It's true. Yeah, multiple friends.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Actually lots of fish head friends in our family.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Fish Heads.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Ryan Montbleau a singer songwriter that I first heard somewhere
around two thousand and five six Fish. His songs are
so beautiful and playing is so intricate when I write
my own poetry off and think about his lyrical style
and wordplay, which have a music and rhythm all of
their own. He also does so much for the communities
of his fans and is a one person light of
incredible love, humility and honesty. To hear you play together

(06:52):
would be so much fun.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
That's such a beautiful way of introducing me to someone.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Is so nice.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
That was a really beautiful description.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yes, I love that. We want to know more. Yeah,
and Alison Russell. I first saw Alison Russell perform on
NPR's Tiny Desk. I bought her record immediately. Her music
is beautiful and there's deep power and wisdom and soul
and her lyrics and playing that elevates anyone who hears it.
I cannot fathom how beautifully the arrangements would be. I
get chills and goosebumps thinking about the combination of you

(07:21):
playing together.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Ah. I love that she's on our list and we
love her and.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Who those are some ideas will cross my fingers said,
it will come to fruition someday. Apologies as well for
a brief moment of geeking out as well, but I
cannot wait to someday see you perform in concert. Come
Away with Me was the song my wife Noreen and
I danced to at our wedding. Ah. We'll be celebrating
twenty years next year. That's amazing. Thank you for being
an important piece to the soundtrack of my life. Thank

(07:46):
you for all the amazing music that you have shared
with the world. I am truly grateful.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Sending you all wishes of peace and joy. Wherever the
road takes you. Take good care, Chris.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
I thank you, Chris. Thanks for those recommendations and for
listening and for saying things that make me want to cry.
They are so sweet.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
We needed this little boost.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
We Yeah, it's like I kind of needed it too.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
It's like a little bit like is this thing on?

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Yeah, that's the thing. We send it out into the ethers.
And it's so cool how social media you can actually
get feedback from stuff.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
So we just had to ask for it.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Yeah, it's it's not like we haven't been able to
get any feedback, but it's nice to hear those words
of affirmation. That is my love.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Las, both of our love language, words of affirmation. It's
the love language of this podcast. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Basically, yeah, I feel like when I'm podcasturbating every time
I hear myself, I you know, I always a little
bit cringe when I hear myself talk and laugh and
be like I love that, I love that, I love that.
I think it's a drinking game. You could say I
love that every time. Every time I say I love
that in the podcast. If you take a shot, it's
a it's a total drinking game. But be careful, don't

(08:54):
do that because you're probably driving on your commute. Yeah,
on your commute. I also wanted to say, Chris, one
thing that you said that I really am stoked about
is that you've learned about new artists from it, because yes,
that's kind of what our goal was, not necessarily exactly that,
but to have kind of a variety for this show

(09:16):
instead of it just being, you know, one type of
singer songwriter. Of course everybody has a different personality, but
like a wide variety of musicians.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Yeah, so it's hard to know everything that's out there.
So part of what we're trying to do is introduce you,
take you on a little detour.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
And me too. Like the Mark Rebia episode, I didn't
even know him. I knew his videos, and then I
got to know him more as we worked up to
the podcast, but like that was such a fun intro
for me even so.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Yeah, yeah, this next email is from Tim, thank you
so much for this show. I recently found it and
I'm loving all of the episodes. There are a couple
of artists that I'd love to see with Nora. First
one is Lyle love It. He's a great singer and
funny human. Think those two would make a great pairing.
Jason Isbel Yeah, yes, another brilliant songwriter that has a

(10:05):
wide range, sings about things that matter and is super
fun to listen to in conversation. And lastly, it would
be great to see Dave Matthews and Nora do an episode. Awesome, Yes,
thank you Tim, great ideas.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Yeah, thanks Tim, that's rad I think yeah. And Lyle
love It is a fellow Texan. And Jason Isbel's awesome.
I think he's on our list. Yeah, he's definitely there.
And Dave Matthews Dave Matthew's awesome suggestion. I opened for
Dave Matthews in two thousand and two, right, it was
like either right after my first record came out, yeah,

(10:40):
or right before, Like, yeah, he was right after because
we had a tour bus, So I know it was
not before it came out because I wouldn't have been
able to afford into the US. But I remember we
opened up for Dave Matthews for like a week and
it was so fun. They were so nice.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yeah, that's what I always hear about him, is that
him and his whole group super nice people. Yeah, accommodating
forever ago. This next email is from Adam Hi, Jolly Jones,
and Sarah Nice. First off, congratulations on the podcast. It's
been a revelation. Still hoping Cat Popper will be on

(11:18):
as well. Heck yeah, she's a multiple requests for cats.
That's awesome. You're on there. Okay, we're coming after you.
And then my dream guest is a big ask, but
here goes Sir Paul McCartney.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Now that would be something with love from down under.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Adam. Oh thanks Adam, Thanks Adam. Well, certainly that would
be something, wouldn't it.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Yeah, So Cat Popper, you and Paul mccartny I love.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
I mean you said Paul McCartney. That's amazing and I
agree with both of them, Yes, exactly. That is a
rad Yeah. I can't wait to have Kat on. She's
also been She's been releasing so many cool singles and
stuff lately too. I feel like we'd have a lot
of fun stuff to do. Sure, and Sir Paul McCartney,
you know. I mean, I'll check in with him.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
See, we'll see if we can find a little window
time for him. We're really busy.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
There is something about about sir can I keep wanting
to say, Sir Paul McCartney, But I also.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Just want to say I feel like we're supposed to
say sir.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
I guess we are, but I feel like there's something
about McCartney. I'm just went straight last name. Yeah, there
is something about him that I feel like if you
catch him and he has the right window and you're
like where he is, he would just jump in and
jam you know, if he was in the mood, you
know what I mean? Should we just follow him around

(12:41):
and see if he's like what about now? Yeah, so
that's a great suggestion, of course, putting it on the list.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Actually, both Kat and Paul hope we have multiple requests.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Really.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Yeah, that's awesome. They're both high on the list. We
should make a grid.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Of a grid. Well, they're high on my list. Yeah, Okay.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
This next emails from Tom Dear Sarah and Nora. I
hope you're both doing well. I'm enjoying the podcast. Great
way to meet new artists and new songs. I would
love to see an episode with Danger Mouse. Oh, yay,
I would loveyan well, Brian Burton. It's an extremely talented
producer and produced my favorite album of yours, Little Broken Hearts. Ah.

(13:26):
I think it's a great change to play some songs
from the album and other songs that you and Danger
Mouse have collaborated on in the past.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
That would be cool. We could do some songs from
the Rome album.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Song request. I would love if you would play killing Time. Oh,
this is one of my favorite songs of the album.
It's a beautiful and unique song. Oh bus it.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Was a bonus track, so it was on some I
don't know what it was on at the time.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Yeah, So that would be a great idea.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
That is a great idea to do. Actually, and it's
been We had like the ten year anniversary of that
album last year.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
So yeah, yay, thanks great, Yeah, Tom, Tom You're you're awesome. PS.
I love the song that you wrote with Sarah Oda Burne.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Thank you, Toming.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
We should a fire emoji.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Oh my god, I love it and I love the
broken heart emoji. I like when people email please email
us more. Thanks Tom, You're awesome. I agree. It would
be so fun to have Brian on. Yeah, I feel
like he might take some convincing. But if we promise
him that we can just have fun and see how
it goes and may be, like, you know, entice him.

(14:34):
How do we entice Brian, I don't know. Dinner? Well,
cook dinner, dinner, that's all we gotta do. That would
be great, that would be amazing. Danger Mouse is the best.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
All right, Brian, you're on the list. We're coming after.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
You, We're coming for you. Oh. Also, Tom, I wanted
to say I'm glad you liked the song we co
wrote together. We've done a few songs together. For those
of you who don't know my relationship with Sarah Oda
here written songs together. She also has written songs that
I've sung. And I think one of these days, Oda,
I'm just gonna put you on the spot. We're gonna

(15:07):
have to do a Sarah Oda episode and you can't
edit this out.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yeah, I'm like, do I edit that episode?

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Because you know you can't edit the episode?

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Well, that changes everything.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
Okay, So we'll do a Sarah Oda episodes one of
these days when she's ready.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Well, maybe we'll do burn Although I could play viola
on it.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
You could or maybe we'll do some of your other
new songs that you're working on. Hint, hint, hint, hint.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Yes, stay tuned.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
Okay, I'm displaying alone.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
All right. This next email is from John. Thanks for
the opportunity to provide input on potential guests. My ideas
would be Taylor Goldsmith, Oh, Lindsey Buckingham, Dream Guests, Dream,
Glenn Hansard and or Marcada or Glava awesome. Nancy Wilson, Yeah,
Colin Hay.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
It took me a second because I'm like which one,
but I'm like, well, the jazz singer has passed away,
so of course yes, heart, Nancy Wilson, who I love?

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Colin Hay, Robert Plant another dream guest, Oh Dream, and
Bonnie Rait Oh dream guest. Thanks again. I've really enjoyed
the podcast and look forward to more.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
Oh, thank you John, John, Thanks for the input. Those
are great suggestions.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Thanks for taking the time to think of some great ideas.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Yeah, and for emailing.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
This next email is from Jay Hi Sarah Nora, Hello
from Connecticut.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Hi, First, just a big thanks for the podcast. It's
brilliant getting to be a fly on the wall in
these conversations and collaborations is just an amazing listening experience.
I'm sure it does a lot of work to put
these together between planning, travel, post production, et cetera. But
as a listener, I want you to know that it
is so worth it and very much appreciated.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Oh that feels good. Thank you, because it is good
that it has been quite the prep.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
Yeah, we're working hard over here.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
Yeah, and we got to mix all the songs separately.
It's not like we just throw micccepting you. Yeah, thank
you for appreciating that.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
My kids seven and four have been listening to Nora
pretty much every morning for the past seven years. After
the singles with Mavis and Chris Thealy had popped up
a few times, I did a little digging to see
how I had missed these songs in the past and
learned about the podcast. Hearing those episodes it works.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
It works. Releasing this time works.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Hearing those episodes after already knowing the singles that came
from them was just so cool. As a parent and
former touring musician songwriter who no longer has endless hours
of available for creativity, I feel inspired when witnessing what
you've been able to create during these short podcast sessions.
It's a reminder to me of what can happen when
we spend an hour with another creative person.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
Oh my god, that is so true, Jay, I was
thinking the same thing.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
That's how it is for us when we're doing them. Yeah,
it's endlessly inspiring to sit down with someone and be
creative and even just be focused without your phones and
have a conversation, right, but especially about music and everything,
and then to play songs together. It feels like it
feels like like dancing with someone or something, yeah the

(18:12):
first time, you.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
Know, for the first time, but like just finding your groove.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Second, I would love if you added the song title
and timestamp of the song in the show notes. This
way we know the names of the songs you're playing.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Ah, that's a really interesting idea, very good idea. I
wonder if that will prevent people from listening to the
talking yeah, you know, and they'll just like fast forward
to the song.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Maybe why we didn't, Yeah, maybe.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
That's why we didn't. But that's not to say that
it's not a great idea for people who want to
go We.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Could put the song titles in maybe and.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Just yeah, I will say one thing.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
Also, we don't want to give away what's in the episode.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Yeah, we wanted to be a surprise, that's the only thing.
So it's a great idea, but there's there is a
reason we haven't done that. Also, you know, in my dreams,
you know, after we release each episode, we would release
a mini EP of all the songs only. But it
you know, it takes a ton of clearances to get
rights for to use from the record labels for these

(19:07):
artists for the songs. Publishing costs money for each song,
so it's just it's really preventative in that way. Yeah,
that's the only reason we're not because I would love
to just release all the music.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
That's yeah, that's been kind of our hurdle that we've
had to overcome.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
That's been the prep too, a lot of prep between
management and record labels all.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
It takes a little bit more time, yeah, and just talking.
But yeah, we're learning how to do it as fast
as we can. Yeah, Okay. Third, my guest request is
Chadwick Stokes of the band Dispatch Awesome, only independent band
to ever sell out Madison Square Garden three nights in
a row. It would be a dream to hear Nora
sing on the chorus of his song The General, and
to talk songwriting with him.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
Oh that's so cool. See now I'm learning about new
artists myself. Yeah, that is so great. Yeah, thanks for
the suggestion.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
Thanks Jay, keep it up, and if you ever need
some listen feedback, we are here.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Oh thanks for that. I love that feedback. Jay. That
is great, and thanks for appreciating all the production work
that does go into the It's definitely more than you
would think. Yeah, all right.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
This next email is from John Hello, a copy of
my comment to the recent post dream guest idea is
Paul McCartney.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Of course, Caleb Followill Kings of Leon right, he's a
great singer.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
James Taylor of course, Linda Ronstadt.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
Oh, I wish she could still sing. I mean, she's
my dream human. Maybe maybe she'd want to shoo. I
don't know how she's doing, but I will check in Jewel.
I love Jewel.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
She's a great speaker.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Also, she has a crazy story that is incredible. Her
life story is incredible, and i've heard her give interviews
about Also like the work she does now. And also
I loved her when she came out and in college,
I had her one of her albums and I loved
it and I love her.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
She was there in a moment for us.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
Like, yeah, she's definitely on my list.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Yeah, good idea. And Lenny Kravitz, Oh, great idea.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
I've been listening to Lenny Kravitz a lot lately, but
like the stuff that was big when we were Yeah,
like nostalgic wise, but I remember listening to it recently
and thinking like, I don't think I appreciated how actually
good this was for being popular right at the time.
It's so good.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
Yeah, sometimes it takes kind of that, like revisit distance.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
I mean, I knew it was good then, but I
didn't think about how good it was.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
Yeah, it's good.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
How many times can we say good?

Speaker 2 (21:35):
Great rad Another one I forgot to add, though not
as world famous, is Matthew Perryman Jones love the name.
Most of the ones I mentioned are songwriter type anyhow,
looking forward to more future podcast posts.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
Thanks John, Thanks John, that was awesome, great suggestions.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
This next email is from Spencer, Hey, Nora, and Sarah.
I can't tell you how much I love the podcast.
I often listen while I'm work, and I can't tell
you how much better. My days are when there is
a new episode.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Ah, that's really good.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
I love hearing the stories of Norah and her guests,
how improvisational this setup is and the beautiful and surprising
ways music comes together. Thank you both so much.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
That's so say. And it is improvisational. That's kind is
That's what we're trying to capture, is how these aren't rehearsed. No,
these are we're winging it, but in controlled wing.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
We basically, if you're curious how it works, we narrow
it down to four or five songs between me and
the guests usually all give suggestions, or if they're very
proactive and give suggestions, that's great. And then we kind
of go back and forth and take one out and
add a different one, and so we both know what
we're going in gonna attempt to play right. And then

(22:47):
we get in there and we have two hours max.
And occasionally we'll redo the song if we mess it up,
but I would say about eighty percent of the time
it's just the one time we're doing it together.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
Yeah, it's pretty raw. I mean, you can hear just
from your reactions at the end of the song that
it truly was the first time most time. And also
it's just a duo set up instead of whatever the
original recording of the song or performance would.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Be, which is fun. You can definitely hear at the
end of the song my loud gifa the surprise, the
surprise joy of us playing a song together. But yeah,
thanks for listening.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
Thank you, Spencer. And so they say dream songs would
definitely be waiting. Oh I love that one, or Light
as a Feather from the Fall, Thank you. Is it
weird to say I love that one because it's my song?

Speaker 1 (23:33):
Oh no, no, no, I mean I love that suggestion.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
And that song okay, walking my Baby Back Home from
the twentieth anniversary released Away with Me.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
Oh, that's that old timey song. Thanks for listening to that,
by the way.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
Sleeping Wild or It's a Wonderful Time for Love from Daybreak.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
Which we're both written, Thank you very much, and Oda.
Actually I don't know if I wrote Sleeping Wild. You
just wrote that one, right.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Yeah, I think I don't quite remember. It's a blur
or maybe say Goodbye r after the Fall from Little
Broken Hearts. So that's like a multi cattle, I mean,
multi album, Spence.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
You know you're no.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Joe makes Spence, thank you so much. Dream guests would
be Robin Pecknall Fleet Fox's awesome, John Stevens, Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
I love him. I think he's on the list.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Yes, yeah, stevieen x of am the list. Another vote
for Alison Krause.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Oh god, she's so on the list or Hosier. Oh,
my mom would love that. She loves him. Yes. Also,
Mavis did that song with him. She did a song
with him that I hear a lot on the radio.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
That makes sense.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Yeah, it's really beautiful. I think she's tight with him. Also,
I asked my mom to email to see if she
had any did she have anybody? She texted me and
she said, it would be great if you could get
of course, I mean great, I sure would be great,
of course, duh. Willie Nelson would.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Be like, we didn't think of him?

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Huh wait we did?

Speaker 2 (25:10):
Oh wait, we think about him every day.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
And then I said, can you email it to me
so I don't forget? And then she emailed me get
Willy on.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
So two votes for Willie.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
I thought maybe she'd give us, like some some some
my mom personality email and it would be fun to
read but she didn't.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
Like I thought she would say Chris Stapleton, she.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
Loves him too. I don't think she thought about it
very much. It was like half an hour ago. Well,
Willy is a great first and only thought.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
Yes, thank you and thank you again for your beautiful podcast,
says Spencer.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Thank you, Spencer. Oh two hearts too?

Speaker 2 (25:45):
Oh yes, Oh show me the emogies. I don't know
why they come up giant.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Oh that's so funny. It's not how they look.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
Email.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
Where do you print them out?

Speaker 2 (25:55):
Your hearts are blowing up on the page for some reason?

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Thank you?

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Okay. This next email is from Joel Hi, Nora and Sarah,
thank you so much for bringing us this incredible podcast. Nora,
thank you. Your music has been the soundtrack throughout my life.
Aw must be a young and I was twelve when
Come Away with Me debuted, and I'm so thankful your
CD came into our house and became a staple to
my family. As a closeted gay youth as it was
throughout the two thousands, your music became my safe space

(26:22):
and helped to provide the light through some very dark times.
Since then, your music has accompanied me through celebrations, losses, breakups,
and new chapters. Over the years, you helped spark my
deep love for jazz and inspired me to continue playing
the piano. Your music still fills our home every single day,
and I could not be more grateful for you and
for the comfort and love your music provides. Thank you

(26:43):
for everything you do.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
Oh, I love you.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Thanks Joel, Joel, thank you.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
This was a beautiful email.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
Thanks beautiful email.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
Thanks for putting yourself out there.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Song requests not too Late and Rosie's Lullaby Forever my
go to songs when I need to press sets.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
Ah, those are good ones to cry too.

Speaker 2 (27:04):
Ones.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
There's a cat, a cat, A cat has appeared. Okay,
Sarah's really allergic to cats.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
Yeah, but as long as they don't and he's rubbing.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
On your back, I swear to god, cat your backpack.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
They know I'm allergic, and they come to the very
sweet cat. By the way, I'm like a cat whisper.
I'm an allergic cat whisper. They want to be with
me because they crave my affection because I can't give it.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
Because you they know you don't want them near the
Sarah like the ultimate.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
They want what they can't have.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
Yeah, and that's why they're so not forthcoming whenever you
want them, or are they I'm not really around.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
I've dated that guy, yeah, the cat cat guy.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Wait, can we go back to this email? So that
was really sweet. I loved your email and it's so appreciated,
So thank you.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
There are a couple of dream guest ideas here. Katie
Lang oh dream, Yes, Sarah McLaughlin dream buddy guy awesome,
very cool. Was on our list yeah because he was
coming through town. And yeah, so well he's still on
our list. Lucy Rose awesome, Becky Hill and Diana Krawl.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
Oh, Diana cal We know her well, Sarah knows her
extra will I do?

Speaker 2 (28:18):
She is my pal?

Speaker 1 (28:20):
Yeah? You worked for her for what how long? Just
a couple of years on tour with her. Yes, yeah,
she's on our list.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
We loved that great. We had a great time on
the road.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
Yeah. And also I've known Diana forever through we used
to have the same manager, so every time I see
her it feels like family.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
Yeah, great suggestions.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
And then Joel has a couple questions here. Number one,
what is something you'd learn if you had the time?

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Oh oh, well, for a while there it was Violin.
I was trying, remember, yeah, but I started.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
You're still a student.

Speaker 1 (28:53):
Yeah, I haven't touched it in maybe five years. We
still have time do a little brain or Spanish. I
wish I knew another language.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Oh, and Spanish would be your first choice.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
Probably. I dabble in French, so it would be easier
to get that going, probably from high school. But I
think I would rather just fully learn Spanish.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
Do you have a recent favorite book that you'd recommend?

Speaker 1 (29:17):
Back to Books, Back to Books? Well, I talked about
Where the Crowd Ads Sing at the beginning of the episode,
and I do love that book. It's amazing. But the
one I recommend lately is Calypso by David Sidarish if
we love David se Well, I mean you know, I'm
like his biggest fan. I've read everything he's ever written,
even like random New Yorker and.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
We went to his book reading that one time.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
Yeah that's right, Brooklyn, and we waited in line to
meet him. And I love him. But you probably are
familiar with David Sidara's SJOL. But if you're not, all
his books are incredible, but this particular one is it's
just it's kind of heavy. It's a lot of family stuff,
but it's also hysterical because he's just his way of
looking at life makes me laugh.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
So yeah, he's incredible.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
But it's it's a nice balance of like really heavy
stuff and then also it's really funny.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
Yeah, it's heavy, but you're laughing through it.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Yeah, but it's deep. It's a deep book and I
recommend it good idea. Yeah, oh did you see our Conan?
My Conan episode came out today?

Speaker 2 (30:17):
Yeay, Oh my gosh, check out Conan. It was so fain.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Do you guys listen to the Conan O'Brien Needs a
Friend podcast? Because I do and I have since right
before the pandemic And it made me laugh the whole
way through and I got to be on it and
it was pretty fun.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
He's just so like on the spot funny. It's this
is not like scripted. It is like.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
It was fun to meet him and again after many
years of being on his shows, and then also Sona
and Matt Gourley.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
Yeah, the team.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
Oh my god, it's so funny when you listen. When
I mean I listened to certain podcasts a lot, and
they become they feel like they're your friends. So I
wonder if people feel that way about us, if they
listen long enough, like if they it's just so weird.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
Maybe like at the end of the session we could
have them fill out a survey and be like, so
on the scale of like friend, like.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
Are we are we your friends? But can you just
you know, would you have us in one coffee?

Speaker 2 (31:20):
Do you like me yesterday?

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Do you like me? Yes? I check? Yes? Thank you, Joel?
Did you have any more questions?

Speaker 2 (31:27):
That was it?

Speaker 1 (31:28):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (31:28):
I like questions, many many thanks and a big giant
hart thanks and a big hug to you, Joel. Okay,
so now I want to read some ideas that we've
had in the comments of our Instagram, Facebook, Twitter.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
Cool.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
All right, so we have a suggestion from Warnick Alice
please play Sinking soon in one of the episodes awesome,
and the Natalie page says, oh that would be such
a fun one.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
Oh they comment on the suggestion, yeah, oh a couple times. Cool.
I wasn't allowed to look at these comments. I couldn't
look at them.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
Well, you were allowed. It was a suggestion, you know,
to keep fresh, even fresh.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
I love that suggestion. I guess it would depend on
who the how it fits in with the guests.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Norah and Alison Kraus would be an insane duo, says
Trigs O nine, Please make that happen.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
I would love to.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
And Popelinus one, says Robert Plan and Alison Krause together
Nora singing A Whole Lot of Love or Battle of
Evermore would be a dream a sure.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
So one thing we haven't done yet, which we were
actually talking about trying to do, was possibly having two
guests on it once and it would have to be
an appropriate matchup and it could be really fun.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
Yeah, it would still be intimate, totally. I mean to
have a duo or even trio.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Yeah, trio. It gets tricky because, like, you know, the
thought of having a band on or something would be
so great if I love the band, But unless there,
I don't want to insert myself where I'm not needed musically,
you know what I mean. If they have it all
dialed and like it's not that different, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Yeah, and maybe like conversationally it's easier to get a
little deeper one on one, yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
Or two people, But I think more than that is
maybe I don't know. There's no rules.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
There are no rules to playing along. Yeah, that's right,
yere May Coel eight four says Eddie Vetter, Eddie Vetter,
Eddie Vedder.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
I'm with you. I love Eddie Vedder. I would do it.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
Cedric Dial says Bob Dylan. One can dream.

Speaker 1 (33:30):
Oh we've dreamed.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
I've dreaming.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
I can't imagine he would do it, but that would
be incredible.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Should I call him?

Speaker 1 (33:37):
Yeah, just call.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
I'll give him a call when we get off this thing.
I'll just yeah. Bobby Jadja Skelton says, listen to Mayvia
Staples and Lucas Nelson and both were awesome. Thank you.
M F Benji says Sharon van etten. Yes on the list,
and the Natalie page says okay, yes, please to this one.
Yes totally on the list, tab says Randy Newman please,

(34:01):
oh my god. And I that's a great idea and
sing I think it's going to rain, but Christely was
already perfection. So y'all are nailing it.

Speaker 1 (34:10):
Oh, thank you, but I agree, and I love Randy
Newman so much.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
The Natalie page also suggests, oh plus one to Sharon
van Att and someone else in the comments wrote her
and that would be awesome.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
That would be also, I know exactly, I have like
twenty songs I would suggest for Sharon that we could
do together. Yeah. But you know what I would love
to try with her is the first time I met her.
We did a best fest with her and where I
was singing harmony and it was a Neil Young fest. Oh,
and she did that song I Believe in You, that

(34:42):
Neil tune.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
Oh, it was so beautiful with all the harmonies in
her singing it. I would ask if we could do
that song.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
Oh, that would be a great one. And then you
gotta do seventeen.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
And she has so many good songs. Her new album
is awesome.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
I just love the way you both saying that one together.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
I love her Rich Monk gt R says Dream Guest
Nico Case, Oh me too, Dream, Same f N Country
eighty seven says Willie Nelson Dream, Dolly Parton.

Speaker 4 (35:10):
Dream, Harris Dream, Bonnie Ray Dream, John Mayer Dream, Chicks Dream,
Had Power, Dream, Sharon Vannette and Dream, Jesse Harris Dream,
Lucinda Williams Dream, Billie eilish.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Uh Dream, You've got our number.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Thank you, Yeah, thank you. Mister Ud says I have
a question you see Japanese because that later it says
mister ud is pronounced e as in t or mister
e mister Dunn spelled backwards.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Oh my god, that's adorable.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
So I probably totally screwed that up. But okay, so
I have a question. Mister Enid says, I have a question.
Can you make the I am just playing a long
song into a full song, like four minutes long.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
Oh, listen to it.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
I'll listen to it.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
It's great, that's sweet. I feel self conscious about that
long because it was such a quick thing and now
it's like the theme of the show.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
That's why it was so great. We were basically sitting
down to record like the first intro of the first
episode ever of this podcast, that we were just figuring
out what we were doing, and we're like, oh.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
I said we should have a theme theme.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
Yeah, quick, somebody think of something. And you just said
at the piano, and no, you were like, I might
have something.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
I just thought of it. I was like, I'm just
playing a long and then I sat at the piano
and we recorded it really quick.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
Yeah, but guess what, it's in all of our heads.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
But the first version we had of it was so slow.
I was self conscious about it for a while. Yeah,
but then we did a new version.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
It was a little catch pipettier.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
And then I did like a different version of it
in EVERYCID just so we get inserted.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
Yeah, we have like twenty twenty versions for all occasions. Yeah, happy, sad, dreamy.
I'm glad you like rag time.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
Maybe we'll all do an extend oversion at the end
of one of the episodes.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
And then Sophie Panosian says, great idea, I second this, please,
Ah okay, Nick's MP five. Can we get Susan Tedeski
or Bonnie Rait on the podcast?

Speaker 1 (37:16):
Oh? On the list? So it's hard Tore, Yes, I
think we can do it. We'll do that. I bet
if I blug them enough they might say yes.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
Ever, Riend's twenty six point two says, would love to
hear you collaborate with some of the musicians from your
first album to hear a reflection of the wild Ride
twenty plus years later. Apologies if you've done this and
I missed.

Speaker 1 (37:36):
A No, that's a brain eye to the pod. That's
a great idea.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
Actually, lifelong fan.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
Definitely want to have Jesse Harris on Yes, who was
already suggested.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:46):
Also, I never get to hang out with Jesse anymore. Yeah,
he's always everywhere in the world, and I haven't properly
had a good hang with him in a while.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Yeah, and it's like the story of how you met
and kind of came together.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
It's pretty fun.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
I've heard your version and I've heard his version, but
to tell it together.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
Yeah, yeah, and yeah, there's a lot of people from
that those days.

Speaker 2 (38:08):
Valentine Refault here, there and everywhere with Sir Paul McCartney.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
Yeah, that would be pretty much.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
Awesome done piano tabs again, says Questlove.

Speaker 1 (38:19):
Oh, he's definitely on almost Yeah, he's a bud. I
got to be on his podcast, that's right. Maybe he
would do a little trade Y's with me.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
Retro trades Ethan Freckleton.

Speaker 1 (38:31):
Great name, Oh my god, best name ever.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
Says Dave Alvin, John Doe, Brandy, Carlyle, Alison Russell, sister Strings,
Ben Harper, Jason Isbell, and John Craigie.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
I love him.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
So we're hearing a lot of the name, same names
multiple times.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
We've heard Alison Russell already and Jason Isbell. Yeah, we
hear you, We hear you and we love them. And
Ben Harper would be really fun.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
And Steph Pep says, ooh, I second Ben Harper and
Brandy Carlisle.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
Brandy would be Brandy could host the show.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
She'd be a.

Speaker 1 (39:04):
Great guest guest host, but she would be the best
guest and the best guest host.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
Champion Fulton, Oh my god, I love the podcast and
I'm going to nominate myself because I love Nora and
I also sing and play piano jazz, and I really
want to be on the podcast.

Speaker 1 (39:20):
Oh my god, that would be awesome.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
I live in New York, but I'm on tour right now.
Hello from Vienna. Hi, I love you guys.

Speaker 1 (39:26):
Actually, that would be a really fun thing to have,
like a fan slash maybe unsigned artists episode where it's
people somebody who's trying to get their music out there
and not everybody knows. I don't know. That would be cool.
That would be really fun.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
Cold Tom Toomberlin, Oh, Cold Timberlin, Cold Music, Colt Tumberlin, No,
Colton Coletin, No, you have to keep this. Col Tom
Berlin Music Okay cool says this podcast is my favorite
thing right now, y'all are killing it. I can change

(40:06):
a thing. But I want y'all to shoot for the
moon with the guests Sultana, Okay, Billy Strings, Tyler Childers,
John Mayer, and John Batiste.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
Oh, oh, I think John Batiste is on the list.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
John's on the list.

Speaker 1 (40:20):
John Mayer's on the list. That's awesome, very cool, great ideas.
I'll put the rest.

Speaker 2 (40:25):
On b clark one, says Mary Chapin. Carpenter love Jacob
Inglis says Seth McFarlane. Ah, that's what a great idea.
We never thought of that. We've thought of that. Oh yeah,
I just said you into Kate Fenner Music says Hey.

Speaker 1 (40:52):
That's Kate Fenner. Oh, I know her.

Speaker 2 (40:54):
Hi, Kate Fenner Music.

Speaker 1 (40:55):
Hy Kate.

Speaker 2 (40:56):
It's a beautiful thing, Nora, thank you.

Speaker 1 (40:58):
Oh my god, Kate should be on this show. She's
an incredible singer.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
Say your own name, Kate Fanner, Baby yep, John Jeffrey Cheryl, Yes,
can you add oh? Can you add song titles and
timestamps to the show notes so we know what song
she is playing.

Speaker 1 (41:13):
Such a good idea.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
D Pelham says Bill Frizzelle. Please whiyes, this is actually
the second time I've seen this name.

Speaker 1 (41:20):
Oh, I mean I would die to get I mean,
on this list, Bill would be the perfect guest. In fact,
we should totally do that.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
Yes, I love Bill. Bill.

Speaker 1 (41:27):
You know when we got to play together on the
Come Away twentieth anniversary thing. Yeah, it so so fun
to play with him. It's like playing with Brian and
Tony and Bill. It was just so loose and easy.

Speaker 2 (41:38):
It was easy.

Speaker 1 (41:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
Marcus three d Art says, I love being introduced to
these artists who have such generosity and humility with their
skills and talents, including Nora. Although I love discovering artists
who I haven't heard before because I live under a rock.

Speaker 1 (41:52):
I love you.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
I'm curious how Tom Waits or Daniel Norgren or Sarah
Close or Lana del Rey or Lily Kershaw I play.

Speaker 1 (42:00):
Along amazing suggestion.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
They are all such wonderful writers and musicians.

Speaker 1 (42:05):
I mean, Tom Waits is my dream, of course. I
also I love Lona Delray's voice as much.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
Let's stop, let's discover, let's stalk her, Luan Tarso, says
Billy Jo Armstrong.

Speaker 1 (42:19):
Yes, on my list, on the list. In fact, I
bugged him about it once and I need to bug
him again. Because he said yes, but then there was.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
No follow up. So now that we're gonna be saying
this in this episode, hopefully well.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
Because she's totally going to listen to this email, So.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
Billy, yeah right, I know you're at home.

Speaker 1 (42:34):
Now, I'll just text it.

Speaker 2 (42:35):
I'll be like, Hi, bugging you now, that might be more.

Speaker 1 (42:39):
I will say. I want to tell you guys this,
I've never been good at bugging.

Speaker 2 (42:43):
People for stuff you're not You're really.

Speaker 1 (42:45):
I really hate doing it and I'm not good at it.
And there's people I've met over the last twenty years
in this business that have been so kind to me,
and I've had the opportunity to keep like up with
and keep in touch with. But I'm so sh i
around these people that I love so much, like people
I admire. I'm talking like Dolly, you know that, I like,

(43:06):
I don't reach out when I have the the the
email like shame, you know what I mean. It's like,
I get really nervous reaching out to people are shy
to do that. I think I have a fear of rejection.

Speaker 2 (43:17):
Well, of course, I mean, I don't know. The worst
thing they can say is no.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
Well also if they say no, it doesn't mean they
hate my guts, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (43:25):
It's like it just means.

Speaker 1 (43:26):
They don't want to do something you're not how busy
they're by, Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (43:30):
You know, as an artist, how many things you've had
to say no do that you wanted to do.

Speaker 1 (43:33):
That's true. I have had to say no to the
stuff I wanted to do. But also I just think
it's a funny thing to note that I've been really
shy about asking people to do.

Speaker 2 (43:42):
That's why you have me, because it's my job to
like professionally reach out and nudge people.

Speaker 1 (43:47):
Yeah, I know, but there's some people I do know
that I could nudge personally that I just I always
feel weird about. I feel weird about that because it's
like crossing a little friend barrier where you're asking them
to do something but it's actually something really fun that
they might like, but it's also feels like an imposition.

Speaker 2 (44:05):
So I think you got to think of of what
you're asking us as a real fun thing that you're offering,
because it's not just for you, it's for them too,
and they like every time you put it.

Speaker 1 (44:16):
That way, Hey, I'm offering you this special spot on
my special place show.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
I think every time we end a session, the guests
are always like, this was so much fun.

Speaker 1 (44:27):
It is so much fun.

Speaker 2 (44:28):
You have to remember that you have something great.

Speaker 1 (44:32):
Well, yes, I know, but I think it's super fun.
But I anyway, I just thought it was funny to
note I'm scared to ask you. I'm a scared, big, old,
scaredy cat, and you're allergic to me.

Speaker 2 (44:40):
Don't be I'm not a lerned to you, but I
do think. Yeah, I mean, I get it. There's a
reason to be a little like you.

Speaker 1 (44:47):
Don't want to be so bold and Pasha, I don't
want to be in asky pants.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
We try to make it really easy. Yeah, for the
people that we ask, you'll show up at your doorstep.

Speaker 1 (44:57):
That's creepy. Well we did do that to Mark Rebier,
We pretty much did, but it worked out. He liked it.

Speaker 2 (45:05):
Okay, piano tabs again, here, says Emmy Lou Harris, Regina Spector.
Oh yes, and Yeba absolutly.

Speaker 2 (46:26):
Yes, you could do something from Rome.

Speaker 1 (46:29):
We could do something from Rome. We can do anything.
That's the fun about this podcast is like, I feel
like each episode could be anything. We could make up songs.
We could do all of songs from their new albums
if they want. We could do a few of mine.
We could do a bunch of covers. Though it's harder
to get clearances for certain things I will put out there.
But for me, it's open doors, wide open.

Speaker 2 (46:51):
Malu, Corey, Cora Cory, I am so sorry. I'm like
butchering these these profile names, but I'm doing white best.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
I think it's fun. Though people kind of want to
hear their names.

Speaker 2 (47:02):
I feel like I just don't know if I'm doing
them right. But Malu koreyab says Brandy Carlyle would be
an amazing guest three exclamation points, and Mara Luster says
guest Willie Nelson song Lone Star.

Speaker 1 (47:15):
Oh that's we sang that song from We sang that
song at his seventieth birthday show at the Rhymes ago
twenty years ago. Because he's about to have his ninetieth
birthday show in April, which I'm going to go to.
I can't wait.

Speaker 1 (47:54):
I also love hearing people's like multiple suggestions because you
can kind of hear their flavor of what they listen to.

Speaker 2 (48:00):
Yeah, and also that they're catching our drift that we're
not in one vein, We're looking for stuff from every corner.

Speaker 1 (48:07):
I love it.

just like a pill so bad.

Speaker 2 (48:39):

That reminds me of so many things. But also she's
still putting out great music. Yeah, Like she just put
out a new album and I love hearing her talk.

because we could just make stuff up. He's like that.

Speaker 2 (49:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (49:16):
I also want to say I love that we've gotten
a lot of John Mayer suggestions. I would personally love that,
you know, because I opened for John in two thousand
and it might have been two thousand and one, so
it was like that same era. It was like right
after my album came out and it was getting some
steam and we had a tour bus and we opened
for Dave Matthews and we did like a week or

(49:38):
two opening for John Mayer.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
That's so cool. I remember the like mash up with
Don't Know Why and Body's Wonderland.

Speaker 1 (49:44):
Oh yeah, because yeah, that was on like some VH
one special.

Speaker 2 (49:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (49:48):
Yeah, But I've seen him over the years, but not much,
and I would be really fun to reconnect. This would
be a great way to do it and jam a
lamb because honestly, we've never really played together except we
did some weird Jolene thing on the Grand Me once
for half a second.

Speaker 2 (50:01):
Yeah, but oh I remember that.

Speaker 1 (50:03):
Yeah, but we've never actually just played together. Yeah, and
that would be so it would be.

Speaker 2 (50:06):
So natural, like I think you guys would just all in.

Speaker 1 (50:10):
All right, well, let's see if we can stop him.

Speaker 2 (50:12):

Speaker 1 (50:46):

list is endless. Wow, it's true. We agree with that.

Speaker 1 (54:02):
The list is endless, and that's what's so fun about it.
But we love your suggestions because there have been a
few that The thing about the suggestion lists and our
dream guest list is that everyone has been at the
top of it at some point. It's not like it's
set and it's like every time we hear of somebody
and we think of somebody that like, how could we
have not thought of that person, it's just because it
wasn't in our orbit at the moment. And then it's

(54:23):
like they go to the top of the list automatically.

Speaker 2 (54:26):
It's like waves, and then we just one idea sparks
another idea, and we just keep coming up with more
and more.

Speaker 1 (54:31):
Yeah, it's pretty fun.

Speaker 2 (54:33):
It's a big job to try and like hone in,
it's actually where to go next.

Speaker 1 (54:37):
Actually, I will say it's been a little tricky because
we're just getting this started. It's been tricky to hone
in on a good variety of guests because we wanted
to curate the first chunk of guests in a way
where it didn't get pigeonholed as a you know, only
singer songwriters, only jazz or only country, right, And so
I feel like now that we're going, we can just

(54:58):
start going out to people more though, and it can
be a little less curated.

Speaker 2 (55:03):
So now it's just like it can be take us
in any direction already.

Speaker 1 (55:06):
I think we can. We can start going out a little.

It is fun. Yeah, and it's fun to hear that
a lot of people have some of the same ideas
it is that are outside of the box though, like
not obvious choices, but the same outside of the box idea.

Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
Yeah, I know what you mean.

Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
Mary Ellen. John says, when are you going to have
Tom Waits join you?

Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
The door is always open, Jason Leffler says Hall and Oates, Oh,
that would be awesome, And Doorhurst says John Mayer. So
we are really love John mahing and ideas we're swimming
in John Mayor and Bonnie Ray and Bonnie Rays. Oh,

(01:02:45):
I love hearing from you guys. Thank you so much
for taking the time.

Speaker 2 (01:02:49):
So thoughtful, so many great ideas and really eye opening
to hear what you all can imagine.

Speaker 1 (01:02:55):
Yeah, and I feel like you really get it. You
get this, you get us, you get us us. Thank
you forgetting us. We're on the same team. And I
can't I'm like super fired up now to go out
to all these people once not once, give my brain,
don't let my brain explode.

Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
But we're going to try to organize our thoughts. Yeah,
and start at the tippity tup.

Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
Yeah, And we have some great episodes coming up in
the can shall we say excited, Yes, very excited for
and it was nice to take this little break, this
little respite and kind of collect our thoughts. Yeah. Well
it's interesting. In case you like actually read the episode notes,
you might notice that some of these episodes are over

(01:03:40):
a year old that we've just put at right because
we we were recording them sporadically and it was still
like sort of post pandemic uncertainty and hard to get
together with people. And also we just didn't have a plan. Yeah,
we didn't know how we're going to a birth plan,
B plan, We didn't know if we should have a home.

Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
So we're just kind of exploring our options.

Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
Yeah, so it took us a while to actually put
out episodes that we had recorded so long ago. So
now we're cooking, yeah, and we're like, we're like scrambling.

Speaker 2 (01:04:13):
Yeah, we got a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
We don't want to actually take a season break. We
were just gonna keep plowing.

Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
Yeah, and I don't think we're going to run out
of ideas.

Speaker 1 (01:04:24):
I definitely don't think we're going to run out of ideas.
That's not the problem. So thanks for listening. We love
you so so much.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
