Chiefs, Broncos, I mean, the actual game itself, major
playoff implications, major division implications as far as

seating goes, because I do believe we're going to have two,
if not three teams in the playoffs.
So it all depends on where we gofrom here.
So let's go ahead and break it down.
Southgate your initial reaction moving forward for this game.
My initial reaction before we get into any injury reports or
rankings of this and that, my first question is I've been

asked numerous times this week, do I think Denver can win?
What do I think my team needs todo to win?
You know, questions instead of that nature.
And right now, the way I look atit is we're still being treated

like the Chief's little brother.Last time I checked, we're eight
and two. We're in first place.
This is more of a must win for you guys.
So we're playing better football, I believe.
So why aren't people asking whatdo the Chiefs need to do to beat

us? And if we finally do pull off
this victory, will we get out from under your shadow yet or

and to minutely answer your question.
I do believe so, yes, if you do win tomorrow because we, you

know how we feel about the week 18 match up last year with eight
starters out, you know that whole thing.
I do believe the way you guys are playing right now, I love
the way you guys are playing football.
I have to say straight up, if you guys are to win tomorrow, I
do believe you get out of that shadow.

record? I mean, Mahomes is, I know,

the Chiefs up until to get Mahomes to get out of the
limelight of being the little brother to John Elway and Jake

I think it would have to be likea consistency of, you know, it
may be more a meaningful game do.

we've seen nothing but the division run through Kansas City
for 12 years, you know, consecutive well.

Now my question is moving forward with that is not just
because, because let's see, we went on a streak of, I think it
was we faced each other in September of 2015.

We lost at Arrowhead and then webeat, and this is in 2015.
We also beat the Denver Broncos at Mile High in 2015 and we went
on a streak until 2021 before the Denver Broncos beat us.
So, and that's one thing that I want to look at is, yes, there's

that streak. I think 1, if you can get out of
this, if you win this game, Southgate, yes, I think this
reignites the rivalry. OK.
I think this will reignite the rivalry.
Yes, you now have two teams in the same division, the Denver
Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs.

where I think as far as recency bias goes in the NFL, it's What
have you done for me lately and how are you winning the games?

and, and I will tell you this, Andy Reid is at the top as far
as coaches are and they, and he has been, even before he ever
came to Kansas City, he's been one of those guys.
But Sean Payton is right behind him as far as being able to

coach A-Team, guide A-Team and honestly out coach other
coaches. So I'm always going to give Sean
Payton that respect. So when you say he doesn't want
to give Andy Reid his entire playbook, I completely
understand that. Yeah, because I mean, he knows
Andy Reid is someone that can out coach him.
Yes, he's not he he can definitely he, he knows that

Andy Reid can play chess and Sean Payton can play checkers.
He's done it now for the past couple of seasons.
And it it's one of those situations where he's not going
to show his card first. He's going to let Andy Reid show
it first. Right, right.

Sean Payton, the NFC when he joined the Denver Broncos, was

So honestly, I cannot sit there and discredit this man for what

he's been able to pull off because yes, he won Week 18 last

At the same time, there was still a decent game plan there.
Regardless. If you have eight of our
starters out, it is what it is. We move on.
But that's the thing that was Sean Payton put together an
excellent game plan so he could get his team into the play offs.

Well, even Week 10, going back to Week 10, I mean, they really
wanted that, that game back for that block kick.
Yeah, and. Then they didn't get it.
They didn't really get it. Like they got a win, but they
didn't get it against the starters.
That's what. You really want.
In Southgate, you can. In Southgate you can tell me

this. As far as that first game last
season with that blocked kick, Imean, you guys had control of
that game. You guys were moving the ball
down the field. Yes, we were able to keep right
on the coattails, but at the same time that defense was
taking care of business. Bo Nicks was doing his thing.
So when it all it came down to was special teams and that

wasn't the first kick that was almost blocked.
There were some potential secondone but it was just missed by a
couple of inches so. I mean special teams have been a
problem this year also. Oh, have they?

So is it, do you think it's going to be as much of a problem
as it was say a blocked tick situation?

Marvin Mims did have some hiccups at the time as far as
returning punts, what is it? And then we had that field goal
penalty. In the Colts, oh the oh, the
what is that called? The what do they call that?
Was it like a Crouch rule? No, it was elevating or no, I'm

real quick, because honestly, that's going to bother me not.

say, jumps on, you know, over. The leverage, leverage,
leverage, leverage. There was a leverage penalty
that's. Leverage, as a matter of fact,
like the first time it's been called 12 years.

We can't say that it was us. I think there was also another
missed extra point and a block field goal in another game.

ask you this, as far as the fourfourth quarter comebacks that
you guys have had this season, regardless of the opponent,

sustainable? The the bet is sustainable.

make fourth quarter comebacks inevery single game is a

it's just a slow start. So I don't get it and I don't
know who to blame. Is it Bonex or is it the play
calling? I I just I haven't figured that

the offense is a diesel engine, starts off cold, finishes hot.

And I have no problem with it. But at the same time with I
'cause I looked this up today, it showed me from as far as Pro
Football Focus was concerned, itshowed me that we were the, we
had a third ranked offensive line behind the Colts and the
Broncos. So if we can keep up that with

the with how good your defense is and how good our defense is,
do you think as far as the rankings go with your offense
goes, do you feel that you? Rankings are a funny thing.
Yeah, I was just going over rankings and if you go to six

different websites, they have mydefense ranked anywhere between

I mean, if you want real statistics, we are third in the
NFL and points allowed. We No, wait, wait, no, I'm

allowed per game. We are 14th in the NFL on points
allowed. We are #1 in the NFL on holding
opponents in the red zone. The overall defense rankings I

just read this on Google vary between sources with some
listings high listing them as high as one and two, and some
and others listed them as low as12 and 14.
Wow. So it just goes to show you that

there's so many things to rank. It's what formula do you want to

initial reaction with the game moving forward this weekend.

Like I said earlier today, offensive line, dude.

They had to control the trenches.
They got to, you know, stop that.
That mean defensive pass rush. Now, I don't think that they're

gonna stop it, but they definitely need to slow it down
tremendously. And can it be done?
I think so. Can Trey Smith slow down Nick
Benito? Right, right.
That's gonna be that's gonna be a good test.

I mean, it's he's had he's he's played some of the best.
So, you know, I think he's up for it.
But yeah, this is gonna be a test with our our offensive one
right here. You know, we really need this.
We really just how bad they wantit, you know?

there's a lot of worrisome, especially, you know, we know
that what Andy Reid's record is off of a buy, but at the same

Chiefs with Patrick Holmes. I think we're we are in
uncharted territory for the first time in a good couple of
years. Yeah.

not afraid of any one of the Chiefs except for Patrick
Mahomes, because he is the best,if not the second best to do it.
And I think Mahomes is hungry right now.

I mean, that's the only way to stop any great quarterback.
We've seen that and the elite quarterback is you have to force
them into making quick, bad decisions.
So if your offensive line holds up, we're in for a long day.

If we can apply the pressure andallow Mahomes to make mistakes,

The problem is, is I've seen himmore on check downs and as far

do with him. I think he needs to get more
touches, but the hard part is, is how many.

different expectation. Now, like I said, world fans,

didn't like Adam Harvey and he he wanted him to work on it or

that he sustained with San Diegoand with Baltimore, when he's on
the field, he is that presence you want to have.

guide RJ Harvey because you all know as well as I do, RJ Harvey
is your future, at least for at least as of right now he is.

he was on the injury? Worthy's been on the injury
