- Kristen was born and raised in Fontana, California, experiencing firsthand the rapid development of the Inland Empire and its environmental and health impacts .
- After five years working at Costco as a warehouse associate, she suffered severe repetitive strain injuries, including nerve damage and limitations in shoulder, arm, and neck mobility. The injury eventually led to a lawsuit where Costco was found fully liable .
- Her experience living with disability and physical pain deeply influenced her path toward advocacy and community service.

🌍 SoCal Trash Army: The Vision
- In July 2020, Kristen launched SoCal Trash Army, a 100% volunteer‑run organization focused on removing litter and debris from mountain recreation areas and urban encampments across the Inland Empire  .
- The group has already removed over 36 tons of trash, supported thousands with food distribution, and expanded its mission to assist people experiencing homelessness by replacing their lost or destroyed personal items and offering weekly on‑site services .

🤝 Collaboration & Impact
- Kristen joined Healthcare in Action (IE-based outreach to unhoused populations) as a Lead Navigator, assisting with healthcare access and resource coordination in San Bernardino County .
- She was featured in a panel discussion/exhibition titled “Between Progress and Preservation” hosted by Black Voice News and CatchLight Local News. Kristen discussed the environmental and health impacts of warehouse development in Bloomington and shared her personal journey from overwork injury to community organizer .

- In October 2023, Kristen (listed as Kristin Malaby) was honored by the League of Women Voters of San Bernardino as a Citizen of Achievement and Civic Engagement, in recognition of her environmental cleanup efforts in mountain recreation areas .
