O Sandro trabalha "há vinte e tal anos" no Júlio de Matos mas não tem a certeza se sabe o que é a doença mental. Para ele, a doença mental está "associada a uma grande honestidade e transparência". Nas aulas de pintura que deu no hospital descobriu artistas que poderiam expor junto de outros de renome nacional. Desde então, dedicou a sua vida a dignificar artistas com doença mental. Há quatro anos fundou o Manicómio, uma galeria de arte bruta que promove artistas e quer "santificar e normalizar" a saúde mental.
