Anything and everything,anything and everything.
Let's get weird and let's havesome fun.
This is the Observation Stationand now your host, tommy
Heights.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Welcome, welcome,
welcome back to the Observation
Station.
This is your host, tommyHeights, here back with another
kind of like a judgementalepisode.
You know it is what it is.
This one is going to be aboutwhat your airlines choices says
about yourself.
So there's a lot of thingsgoing around right now of
(01:08):
understanding that you reallyget what you pay for with the
airlines.
If you're flying spirit, Idon't want to talk to you Plain
and simple.
Spirit Airlines is the bane ofanybody's existence.
There's no way that peoplehaven't understood when you see
(01:29):
the fights on TV.
There's one airline Spirit.
This isn't happening onEmirates Airlines.
We got one thing going here $50round trip tickets.
It ends up being more when youlook at factoring all the costs.
(01:49):
When you fly a cheap budgetairline.
The whole point of a budgetairline really is to sucker in
the people that don't understandall the hidden fees that come
along with flying these cheapfares from the get-go.
It's not like oh wait a minute,I have a checked bag, carry-on,
(02:09):
personal item XYZ and forgetabout having it where you want
to bring your carry-on withthese small little cabins that
they have above, unless you'refirst class, which, in spirit,
really the only first class isprobably being the pilot.
Who knows, even if that pilotprobably has it where.
(02:30):
They have the guy up there.
That's like look man, you're onyour last leg.
You got fired from two jobs.
You started off united, thenyou went to jet blue.
Now you're here.
Keep it easy, no crazy stuff.
All right, man, just keep it100.
(02:52):
When you fly anywhere, itdepends on the airport also what
you're dealing with, especiallyif you have a TSA.
In certain airports some arenicer than others.
When you're in Boise, idaho, they're very nice TSA people.
When you're in Atlantic City, new Jersey or Atlanta, not so
(03:14):
nice.
So specifically, theexperiences of people when they
travel is completely different.
What airline I like to fly?
Delta, they treat you like ahuman being on that airline.
It's kind of funny domesticallyhow we're all just thinking that
(03:35):
America is the best.
If you really look at it theother countries, like the Arabic
countries, you see QatarAirways, emirates, things like
that.
They have the highest grades inthe consumer reports of
traveling for global ratings.
Our American domestic airlines, like even Delta, is not really
(04:01):
even close to the top when itcomes to the foreign airlines,
how the service is so much morerobust than what we have
domestically.
You think, oh my God, americais the best.
There's people that come to theUnited States, fly our airlines
and think, wow, this is a verylow end experience.
So everybody has their ownperspective.
(04:23):
United, I feel like I gettreated like a cow, just kind of
like cattle.
Like, sit down, sit down here,we're gonna do the safety video.
Pop up, pop up, pop up.
Here's your meal, slapped onwhatever it is here.
Peel it back and we're gonnapick up the garbage.
So it's a little bit more of acattle car thing for United.
(04:43):
Okay, that's fine.
Another budget airline that Ihad flown was Frontier.
Frontier is another garbageairline, or Allegiant Airlines,
another one.
One time I was flying out ofFort Wayne, indiana, so I was
(05:04):
checking in.
The lady was checking me in forthe bags and it was the same
lady that checked me in for theboarding.
I'm like, okay, this isinteresting, I've never had that
.
I know it's a small airport.
Then I get on the plane, justopen up, I have the window seat
and I'm thinking, all right, let's get this show on the road,
backing up the plane to get offfor takeoff, just relaxing,
(05:27):
putting on my headphones, da, da, da, da, da.
And then you're all of a suddenthen just kind of looking out
and the same lady that's doingthe checking in on my bags to
boarding the plane all of asudden is appearing on the
tarmac with the orange glowsticks, where she's doing the
directions for the plane to backup.
I'm thinking, oh my God, whatkind of cost cutting measures
(05:51):
does this airline have?
It's nothing short of being thepilot.
I mean.
Look at this.
So the experience was terrible.
First off, that whole flightwas delayed an entire day.
So the day before we weresitting there it's probably
supposed to take off at like 2pm.
I'm there always like threehours early, no matter how big
(06:15):
the airport is.
So I'm sitting there andthinking, okay, whatever, the
weather wasn't bad at all, butthe flight.
I couldn't even remember thereason, but it just kept getting
delayed and delayed.
There wasn't even any badweather outside.
It kept getting delayed afterhour, after hour after hour and
we're thinking, oh my God, comeon, it's not like a major
(06:36):
airport that's got another youknow million flights going to
metropolitan areas, even thoughthis was going to just like a
Punta Gorda, florida.
So nothing crazy.
But they kept delaying theflight, delaying the flight,
thinking what the?
hell's going on.
Then they say, after beingdelayed for geez, seven hours
(06:58):
you know I'm sitting there oh myGod that we're gonna have to
wait till the next day and theyget on.
Their people are yellingobscenities to the stand over
there.
What's going on?
What the hell's this, all thiscrap?
And some lady starts breakingdown.
She goes oh my God, I'm gonnamiss my father's funeral.
(07:20):
So things were not going well.
And another group of peoplewere starting to cry too,
because they had a cruise inFlorida already booked and the
cruise doesn't wait for anybody.
This isn't you know what I'msaying.
They got a schedule whenthey're on the sea.
So you're thinking to yourselfoh my God, these people are
(07:42):
going to miss their cruise.
So thank God for living here inSouth Florida, because if I
miss my cruise, well, it'sprobably because I'm six feet
under, you know, since I'malready here.
So this is how it goes.
If you want to take a choice ofsaying, oh well, let's cut
(08:04):
corners, with the airlinessaying, oh, let's do complete
economy, this economy, thateconomy, this, well, you're
really missing out on a lot ofdifferent things, like even seat
selection, as stupid as itsounds.
When you can upgrade, you'relike in main cabin, not premium
economy, like a grade or twounder that and you get to pick
(08:27):
the seat you like.
You feel like a camp and you'relike, oh my God, yeah, I like
that seat for this flight andthat one for this leg.
You know it's nice.
Firstly, it's like you actuallyfeel like you're making a
choice, not being forced intothe most terrible last choice
seat that, whatever, when youcheck in, the airline's giving
(08:49):
to you because everybody else inthe entire flight they got to
pick the seats you know alwaysleaves probably the worst seats.
And look, this is how it goeswhen you're on these airlines.
A lot of times it's kind of athing where it depends how long
the flight is.
It's where maybe you want tocut costs and measures.
(09:12):
I can't justify spirit airlines, even for an hour flight.
So if you want to fly like aUnited I've tried doing it where
it's like, oh, united's muchcheaper than Delta and you see
how you get treated on theflights like no, you don't want
to deal with this kind of stuffanymore.
(09:34):
Delta's airline.
The attendance on the planesare so much better than a lot of
the other airlines domesticallyit's genuinely understandable
how the upper echelon of flyersprefer Delta, especially if you
have, like, the Delta lounge forthe Sky Club access.
So nice, especially like evenat four in the morning in Fort
(09:58):
Lauderdale, like 4.15, theyalready have it where our
breakfast spreads out there, where there's like quinoa,
yogurt, parfaits, orange juice, eggs, sausage, bacon, everything
the extremely nice cooks, notthe garbage stuff you get at a
(10:19):
holiday and actually you havethe like the sausage links are
actually huge, it's really nice.
So the thing is, everybody doeshave a different flying
experience, especially dependingon your income level,
understanding that not everybodycan afford to have the choice
of flying whatever they'd like.
It's kind of, you know, whatever they can afford.
(10:40):
When you have a lounge accessto whatever the airport is
because some airports are sosmall they don't even have
lounges.
I've said it on many episodesbefore, the experience is much,
much, much more relaxed, especially when you're in a
place where it's a large airportand there's so much noise going
(11:01):
on on the intercoms, the golfcarts whizzing past you, the
babies crying it's terrible.
So hence the lounge is where torelax.
So a lot of places now havequiet rooms so you can even go
into there and it's like evenclassed up, soundproofed inside
(11:24):
the lounge where it's more orless kind of like a library, so
it's extremely quiet, like you,don't?
You're not making really many, many sounds in there.
It's a relaxing place.
That is something like a safespace for people that are on the
move.
This is something differentthan someone that's used to
being on a chaotic.
You know the goat run wherethey're getting frisked by TSA.
(11:48):
You know halfway.
You know questionable TSA.
They're always like excuse me,sir, step to the side here, move
your pants up, drop your belt.
Excuse me, I'm going to need tofeel your insides over here,
and all that's what I did.
What's going on here?
Shake your pants, lift your legand oh, it's like don't you
(12:10):
have an X-ray machine?
It's like what else do you wantme to do?
It's like the Macarena for you.
It's like, first off, who theheck is wanting to be a TSA
agent?
I'm gonna go out there and saya lunatic First and foremost
anybody that says, yeah, I'm afirst responder for all the
(12:31):
terrorism that is gonna becoming through the frontlines of
whatever airport here.
And I want to tell you, howmany people have you found on
the news or online of alegitimate source to say TSA
agent Ricky Johnson savedwhatever so-and-so airport of a
(12:55):
neutralized, a terroristicthreat?
Never, absolutely never.
When have you heard this?
This is how it goes.
Yeah, I never knew that I wasstealing from this guy's bag.
That's what these TSA peoplethey're getting caught for
taking stuff out when they'relike searching bags and whatnot.
It's like, dude, you work here.
(13:17):
You don't see all the camerasthat are here looking at people
already.
What the hell are you doing?
Trying to steal stuff in broaddaylight?
I've never even understood that.
It's like the background checksto even probably get a federal
job like this have got to be soimmense.
But whatever it is, people areprone to doing all kinds of
(13:38):
stuff, no matter how manybackground checks.
It's really the best you can dopreliminarily to check on
somebody's how prone they are tocausing a problem really.
So you know I want to try someother airlines, especially at
some point.
First class I haven't donefirst class yet.
(13:58):
That would be a cool one forlike a long haul flight.
A couple of first classes thatlook really cool are Singapore
Airlines.
They have this like littlesuite, so it's like a mini hotel
room on their flight.
That would be a cool.
Emirates first class that'slike 15 or 20,000 for a flight
there.
(14:18):
They have a shower, a bar, which is kind of funny because
in the Arabic culture there's no, I think, drinking.
So it's kind of funny how theyhave a bar in the air, but it is
what it is there.
So I would love to have it whereanother thing would be to go on
an airline private.
(14:39):
That I haven't done also yet itwould be fun to have it where
you don't even have to deal withTSA even in general, especially
when you're in crowds.
I have the pre-check and clearand all that, but just dealing
with crowds in general, that'sthe worst.
Still the thing that a creditcard, if they had like a little
(15:00):
perk of priority bag check-in,that would be the best, because
that's one hiccup that I see is.
Like, the checking in of bagsis the one thing that I see that
if you want to try to shimmyyour way into there, that is a
way that I can't find yet to say, hey, I'd love to have priority
(15:22):
checked baggage Overall.
Look, here's how it goes.
You have to plan accordinglywhen you do these flights,
especially if it's for, you know, not business, because that's
kind of like a ride off whereyour company's paying for it,
but leisure.
These are things that flightscan change day to day by
hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
(15:43):
So understanding if you don'thave the budget to be going to
say, hey look, I only fly thisairlines, you got a budget
accordingly.
The thing is, of this episode, your airlines has a lot to say
about you.
It's like the vehicle that youdrive.
If you drive a Toyota, I cansee that you're mindful and
understanding of a qualityvehicle.
If you drive a, you knowMitsubishi or Saturn in 2024,
(16:09):
with temporary tags andquestioning your insurance
ability to have a claim.
So look it just, everything isan observation.
That's why that's the point ofthis show.
It's a feeling where If peoplewant to fly what they fly and
say I don't care to go subparjust because I'm saving money
(16:32):
and I'm only on the flight forso many hours, so be it.
Some people like to slum itlike that.
That's up to them.
It's not me, because I want tomake it to one it from a to b
when I'm flying in the mostrelaxing possible manner.
That's just something I figuredout is Different than driving
(16:53):
is flying.
It's like already I'm six, fourcramped already.
It's not something where IAlready like being on those
planes, everybody always behindme.
It seems to be where they liketo put their knees in my back,
and I don't even recline andit's like you're looking at it.
It's like, dude, aren't youlike five, eight, the hell are
(17:16):
you doing putting your knees?
It's like I'm six, four, I'mtrying to, like, cross my knees,
so I'm not even touching theperson in front of me.
So, but you know, everybody hastheir own way of doing stuff.
It's not saying karma's gonnaget this guy bad, it is what it
is.
Until you get the first class, then you have to Deal with what
(17:36):
you're dealing with.
Once you get the big-time seats, then you don't have to deal
with the guy with the knee inthe back of your, your seat, and
that's how I I think about it.
So get to the point where youdon't have to complain about
that, and that's how I look atit.
So hey, that being said there, look, here's how it's gonna go.
(17:57):
You make your own life happenby the choices that you may.
All right, so wanted to wrap upthis episode here and and just
kind of give a little bit of ateaser for the next episode.
It's going to be the cuisineand how your body feels Eating
(18:21):
it.
So it's going to be Differentfood choices and it's like, well
, why do we eat this and whatdoes it make us feel like?
So, all right guys, take iteasy, stay happy, even if right
now I see that maybe the economyis not doing the best.
It's something that where wehave to get better at what we do
.
So it's just read do somethingeven if it's not fun.
(18:45):
Make yourself just a little bitbetter, all right guys.
Well, take it easy and untilnext time, all right, bye, bye.
