A photographer heads deep into the backcountry of Great Smoky Mountains National Park with his 8x10, large-format film camera, drawn by the promise of fall fog and solitude.
But with the fog came an unsettling surprise.
Each morning, a figure appears at the edge of the trees. Tall, unmoving, always watching.
And then, one morning, it smiles.
