Dicen que en lugar de recibir inyecciones semanales del fármaco, como ha sido habitual en pacientes humanos, a los gatos se les aplicará pequeños implantes inyectables, ligeramente mayores que un microchip, que liberarán el fármaco lentamente durante un periodo de seis meses.
