In a world as vast as the kaiju genre, there needs to be a podcast that can tackle all things giant monster - from film to fandom, television to toys, Godzilla to Gamera. That podcast is YHS on Monster Island! From the world of Yes Have Some comes a new show dedicated to the spectacle and madness of the kaiju genre; one as fun as a trip to World Children's Land and as informative as a Dr. Yamane lecture. Piloting this ship will be "The Tattooed Titan of Tokusatsu" and YHS co-founder, Jacob Walsh, and the "Mayor of Toku Toy Town" and acclaimed sci-fi author, Jay Key.
It's Thanksgiving time and we are both thankful for Designer Con - because it gave us a cornucopia of vinyl treasures from Enka Vinyl, Permafrost Grocer, Mondo, Marusan, and many more!
On top of recapping the weekend in Vegas for D-Con - and all of their pickups, they go rapid fire through nearly a month's worth of news and toy releases!
With Jake away in the woods (or something), Jay goes over a ton of toy releases from:
Other topics include:
Jake and Jay provide their personal top 5 lists for kaiju and tokusatsu characters that need (more) toys!
What toys do you want to see?
Plus, they recap toy releases from New York Comic-Con and across some of the top Japanese toymakers!
One host hated it. One liked it. It's a review of the 1964 gangster-centric movie - that also features a giant space jellyfish, DOGORA!
We also had Super Festival 92 in Japan over the weekend and our sofubi heavy hitters did not mess around; huge releases from Marusan, M1, USToys, and more!
Jake and Jay return and they have a lot to catch up on, including an epic list of Tsuburaya Con releases from Marusan, USToys, Bullmark, M1, and more! But, the main event, is a fun discussion around the Shaw Brothers' 1977 film, THE MIGHTY PEKING MAN.
Come for the Kong-sploitation, stay for the Swiss model airplane spinning a leopard!
Oh, and pickups - including a live opening of a set of Ultraman Family English Lessons VHS tapes...
From this year's KAIJU GO! is an amazing toy maker panel featuring Pittsburgh tattoo artist known for his Kaiju Cream and Godzilla UFO collaboration with Mondo, OCTEEL; Mexico City's "Princess of Pastels" and Kawaiiju creator, JENNY CHERRY; the fantastical artist, entertainer, educator, and entrepreneur, from Georgia, WONDER GOBLIN; and the Texas-based mastermind behind Warriors of the Universe, the incomparable C...
From the historic Texas Theatre in Dallas, TX, KAIJU GO! 2025 included a memorable interview with famed Godzilla and kaiju illustrators, print makers, toy designers, and all-around good people - TOM WHALEN (Lancaster, PA) and ATTACK PETER (Miami, FL). The interview is hosted by another great kaiju artist and YHS on Monster Island co-host, JACOB WALSH (Valdosta, GA).
Jacob and Jay have recovered from Kaiju Go! 2025 in Dallas - but they return with a kaiju-sized toy haul that includes pickups from sofubi makers like NeoPlayerOne, Marmit, Anraku Ansaku, and Medicom Toy - and from amazing artists like Mark Nagata, Tom Whalen, Attack Peter, Jenny Cherry, Octeel, Chazbro Toys, Neil Ewing, Plagued Earth, Chance Priest, Wonder Goblin, and more! It's the largest toy binge since the podcast began ba...
Jake and Jay review all of the amazing kaiju toy releases from Wonder Festival 2025 Summer edition, including amazing items from M1, USToys, Bandai Vinyl Art, Frozen Ground, Amakuma, X-Plus, and more! But it wasn't just Wonder Festival - Godzilla had a huge impact on San Diego Comic-Con, especially with Super7, Mondo, and Playmates. But that wasn't even all of the news - as Marusan has a presence at the current Tokusatsu DN...
Jake and Jay have returned from the mecca of Godzilla fans - G-Fest in Chicago, IL! Did they survive a full weekend in the greatest dealers room in the world? And what toys did they make it back with?
From Marusan to Sunguts to Marmit to M1, this is an epic week of toy hauls!
Jay and Jake discuss their upcoming trip to G-Fest in Chicago - the 30th G-Fest and Jake's very first! They review the guests, vendors, artists, attractions - including the new ULTRAMAN: THE HERO PREMIERE!
On top of that, the duo discuss some recent toy releases from Marusan, Star Ace, SwimmyDesignLab, Bullmark, and more! And, you can't have an episode of YHS on Monster Island without weekly kaiju pickups!
Jake and Jay both watch the Doug McClure "classic" WARLORDS OF ATLANTIS for the first time; why you ask? Because Anraku Ansaku makes toys of two of the monsters.
Plus...lots of new toy releases from Marusan, Enka Vinyl, Star Ace Toys, Medicom Toy, and more!
The world of independent and original kaiju (and kaiju adjacent) toys is so vast - however, Jake and Jay provide five toys / toy lines / toymakers that are at the top of their lists currently. From Max Toy's Captain Maxx line to the cute Chilean kaiju, Gom, they cover some wild and wacky monsters from some of the most creative toy artists in the world!
There was also a ton of toy news - including teases and reveals from Mondo, T...
Jake and Jay chat about the stage show that transitioned Ultra Q to Ultraman, The Birth of Ultraman! It really is a wacky story!
Also, there's a ton of kaiju and Godzilla toy and sofubi news, with releases coming out of Hobby Round 32 and Super Festival 91. Marusan, Max Toy Japan, Enka Vinyl, Shima-X, M1, and more really had amazing showings at the events - but brands such as Acro and Prime 1 Studio showed that you didn't ne...

#godzilla #kaiju #sofubiJake is on a plane heading to Japan - but Jay still has a little over a day before he leaves; so what better time to talk sofubi and kaiju toy news? Jake and Jay finally complete their review of the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy with 1998's, Rebirth of Mothra 3. Can a re-designed King Ghidorah save the trilogy? Or will puppet dinosaurs, bad CGI, and a deathmatch wrestling legend doom the big bug's big finale?
In addition, there's a lot of Godzilla and kaiju toy and sofubi news from a host of makers - X-Plus, Marusan, Sunguts, etc. - and from a ton of upcoming events suc...
