Wherever you listen to podcasts, you become part of a bigger

Speaker 2 (05:16):
As I mentioned at the beginning of this news bit,
there are many Marvel podcasts.
Some of them are even namedOfficial Marvel Podcast, so make
sure that you follow theOfficial Marvel Podcast by
Marvel.
The other ones, by the way, arereally worthwhile, but this one
has such an insider feel to it.

(05:37):
My next highlight is about theCIA.
Are you planning to travelabroad this summer?
If you are, or even if you'regoing to be doing road trips or
flying around the countrydomestically, here's some
information that you should have.
While searching shows that Ithought I might want to feature.

(05:59):
In episode 28, which was aboutisland paradises, I discovered
an island named Koh Tao,k-o-h-t-a-o in Thailand, and it
looked so beautiful that I hadto know more about it.
I read several reviews of theisland that were primarily from
tourists and travel agencies and, to tell you the truth, I've

(06:20):
done a lot of traveling in myday and I've always been
skeptical about these types ofreviews, because tourists often
have an agenda, namelysponsorships, and all travel
agency reviews can be bothinformative and misleading at
the same time.
So I dug a little deeper Kotow,kotow.

(06:41):
I quickly discovered thatKotow's nickname was Murder
Island.
Hmm, right below an articleabout dozens of missing tourists
, the CIA website popped up.
To make a long story short, Ieventually landed on the CIA
podcast.

(07:01):
Did you know they had one?
I didn't.
It's called the Langley Files, discreetly nestled between
several episodes like the Sideof the Argo Mission You've Never
Heard, or A Conversation File010, cia Travel Safety 101, that

(07:27):
features a CIA security expert, and the information contained
in that 33-minute episode provedto be invaluable for me and for
all citizens when travelingabroad or, in some instances,
even domestically.
Some examples include why youshould never accept a hotel room

(07:49):
above the sixth floor and theimportance of giving a photocopy
of your passport to someone youtrust before leaving the
country.
They also include importantlinks on where you should go to
get more information One is AskMolly on travel, and that's on
the CIA website and how you canregister with the State

(08:14):
Department's Smart TravelerEnrollment Program.
There's also a link to the CIAWorld Travel Facts that includes
the current safety status ofanywhere you intend to travel in
the world.
Gerald, oh, no, not you again, what are you listening to?

(08:38):
Are you spying on me?
Oh, ais, you can't trust them.
But yes, welcome to.
What Are you Listening To?
A segment where I share whatI've binged.
This week.
In episode 27 of One Good ThingMedia, we covered

(08:59):
family-friendly podcasts thatwere sure to entertain your kids
during long road trips andpreserve adult sanity.
This week I binged severalepisodes of we're Alive, scout's
Honor by Weyland Productionsand definitely want to add it to
my family-friendlyrecommendations.
Weyland Productions anddefinitely want to add it to my

(09:19):
family-friendly recommendations.
The one thing that's differentis that Scout's Honor is for
tweens and teens, as opposed toyounger children.
Scout's Honor is actually amini-series by Weyland
Productions, which has produceda separate we're Alive podcast
with similar themes for matureteens and adults.
Scouts Honor is being heraldedas a cross between Lord of the

(09:41):
Flies and Invasion of theZombies, which sounds compelling
but not altogether accurate.
It's really a story about agroup of venture scouts who are
trying to survive a brutalzombie invasion on Santa
Catalina Island that's locatedjust a few miles off the coast
of Southern California.
To do this, they have to usetheir camaraderie, cooperation

(10:05):
and scout training to avoid thesame fate that befell other
Venture Scouts that are nowhunting them.
I'm currently listening toepisode 5 of 8, and thus far it
has been somewhat gory, but alsoa pulse-pounding ride.
The zombies are merciless.
Most of them are fast on theirfeet and work as a team to hunt,

(10:26):
kill and sometimes converthumans into their own kind.
Right now, my favoritecharacters are Ruby and Franklin
although that could change atany time and I'm also hoping
that all the kids make it outalive.
This podcast is suitable, in myestimation, for the 12 and over
crowd.
I recommend that all parentsreview the podcast first and

(10:51):
then decide whether it'sappropriate for their children.
I'm going to play a clip foryou, but please remember this is
not suitable for young children.
The clip takes place aboutmidway through the podcast, when
a band of zombies who wereformer friends and venture
scouts of our group tracked themdown and were getting ready to

(11:13):
attack them.
Our group was totallyoutnumbered, but they were very
resourceful.
Our scouts actually lured themover a steep hillside where the
zombies fell down and becameimpaled in cactus, which abounds
on Catalina Island.
This takes place right afterthe deed was done.

Speaker 5 (11:37):
I think we should be high enough that we're out of
danger.
Looks like the smoke is blowingdown the hill and over the
water.
Like you said, At least they'reout of the misery now.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
Okay, so how many miles to the airport?

Speaker 5 (11:54):
I have the map.
Looks like four and a half fivemiles, yay back on the Trans
Catalina Trail.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
I swear I'm never going hiking after this Okay,
scouts, let's hustle.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
No stragglers.
Yes, venture Master, watch yourtone.
What the oh my god, chase.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
Back up, back up, keep him away.
He was waiting to ambush thiswhole time and he still has the
flag.
I knew it.
Told you, pierce, chase, chase,oh man, no, no, not you, chase,
it's me, pierce your brother.
You know me.
Please, you can fight this.
No, it's me, pierce yourbrother, you know me, please,
you can fight this.
No, he can't Shut up.

(12:41):
Yes, he can damn it.
I'm your brother, chase, okay.

Speaker 5 (12:47):
He doesn't recognize you, pierce.
He can't.
He's just a thing.
Now it's a new world, them orus.
Remember Chase?

Speaker 6 (12:56):
stop, please stop.
What do we do?
What can we do?
Run, we have to do something.
We can take him.
No, no, no, he's got my foot, ruby, get off of me, ruby, we
got you, we've got you.

Speaker 5 (13:13):
Are you okay?
Did he scratch you or anything?
No, just got my boot.
I stayed shattered.
Pierce, you have the gun use it.

Speaker 6 (13:23):
No, come on chase.
You have to, I can't.
He's my brother, that's not himanymore, do it that's we
survived.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Boy scouts honor, if you like a good old zombie tale.
I'm also going to be reviewingI'm alive by wayland productions
in my review segment, which isthe end of our show, and of
course, the zombies sound muchscarier.

(14:01):
Gerald have you studied thesigns of FOMO?
It means fear of missing out.
I know what it means.
Stop spying on me, jeez.
We'll talk about this later.
You guys, I have a confession myfear of missing out is out of
control.
I still had three more episodesto go and it was really bugging

(14:25):
me.
I am so obsessed about bingingso I stopped recording.
I went back and finished theseries and I have to tell you,
wow, it is intense and it almostleft me numb.
Even though it's a show aboutmiddle school and high schoolers
, it's an amazing story.
I hope everybody listens to it.

(14:46):
I'm so excited about it.
Anyway, on with the show, andnow it's time for the main
attraction.
I have two reviews for youtoday that are perfect for
summer listening.
My first review covers we'reAlive, an epic series that

(15:07):
dropped its first episode in2009.
Weyland Productions is the GOATof the podcast world, has never
grown old, never becomes staleand continues to grow in
popularity.
I reviewed we're Alive Scout'sHonor by Wayland Productions, a

(15:29):
separate but theme-relatedpodcast, in my what Are you
Listening To segment.
So if you took a mentalvacation and that's okay if you
did I suggest that you rewindand check it out.
Both Were Alive podcasts involve, quote-unquote, infected
creatures that are destroyingLos Angeles, and if you're

(15:51):
scratching your head and saying, but wait, one of them took
place on Catalina Island, pleaseknow that Catalina Island is
actually part of Los AngelesCounty.
It's 26 miles away from where Igrew up along the coast of
California, so I can attest tothat personally.
The last episode dropped in2023, but rumors have it that

(16:16):
Weyland Productions iscrowdfunding to produce a new
season.
Or is it a new podcast?
We're not sure.
All I know is I hope the rumorsare true.
Like Scout's Honor, the originalwe're Alive podcast sucks you
into its imaginary world ofhumans and the infected

(16:39):
zombie-like creatures, which Iusually don't like, but I love
them in this show.
It's scary, humorous andsometimes heartbreaking, but not
to the point that it causes youto lose even more faith in
humanity.
And because it takes you awayfrom time and place, we're alive

(17:01):
is the perfect escape from thetedium of long plane rides,
delayed flights that makeminutes seem like hours and, of
course, without being glued toyour phone Trigger.
Warning these clips and theshow contain a lot of foul
language and violence.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
Wow, hey, pass me another hot dog, would you?

Speaker 6 (17:32):
Here After this one, we should probably put it out.

Speaker 5 (17:35):
Get some rest.
Nothing's gonna see us up here.

Speaker 6 (17:41):
Starting to get chilly up here.
How's he doing?
Still out cold and stillclutching his revolver?
I would be too Kidding me.
You can stop damn near anythingwith that pistol.
Hey, I'm sorry about earlieryou kidding me, you can stop
damn near anything with thatpistol.
Hey, I'm sorry about earlier.
How's that?
If we hadn't have saved him, wewouldn't have been able to get

(18:01):
any of his weapons.

Speaker 5 (18:04):
How about we wouldn't have saved an old man's life?

Speaker 6 (18:08):
Why does it it have to be about how useful someone
is?

Speaker 5 (18:13):
you hear that, hear what I thought I heard fucking
gross man.
Holy shit, that was closefucking thing scaled up the wall

(18:37):
.
Damn tore through my uniform abit, but I'm all right all right
, nice shot.

Speaker 6 (18:42):
Angel didn't get any blood on me for a second there,
it wasn't me even half dead, Ican still bury him like the best
.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
fuck, yeah, gramps to the rescue.
If you keep calling me that I'mgonna miss next time, hey, hey,
take it easy.
Just relax, lay back down.

Speaker 6 (19:00):
How the hell did it get up here?
I closed the ladder lock.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
Move aside a sec, let me see it.
Yep, it's one of them, smartones.
Smart ones, yeah, some of themare different.
You gotta look out for thosefuckers.
One of them, I think, and maybethat one there lying there,
trapped me in the bathroom.
It just waited for me to comeout, waited too long.

(19:27):
I guess Must have lost interestafter I passed out.
Why didn't you just shoot himat the door?
I mean, you're one hell of ashot.
He had others with him.
Seemed like he told the otherones what to do.

Speaker 4 (19:40):
So how could you tell this one was smart?
It looks like all the others.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Oh, it's not what's on their face or anything like
that, but it's what they'rewearing.
You see that badge clipped tohis belt.
That's a level 3 ID for RadonLabs.
Must have been pretty damnsmart to get that badge.
So what you're saying is I'mguessing, but it seems to me
that the smarter you are in life, the smarter you are in death

(20:03):
too.
I mean.
Well, you know what I mean.
How'd you figure all that out?
I was in that room for a prettylong time.
They keep coming.
Hurry, let's go Run.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
I heard it again.
I think we're being watched.

Speaker 5 (20:26):
Follow me, stay close God.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
Life is so short.

Speaker 7 (20:33):
It keeps getting shorter over time, and it
doesn't get any easier.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
I do not like the look of this place.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Prim's one of the largest rogue encampments in all
the Red Zone.

Speaker 6 (20:48):
Only the wrong sort of people know how to get here.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Stop her.
All guards at the doors.
No one leaves unless I say andI mean no one.

Speaker 5 (20:59):
Our lives are both at stake here.
Keep going, they'll catch up tous if we stop Now.
More.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
It's coming from the tree line.
Oh man, you got no idea what'scoming next.
Make every shot count, Please.
You can't do this.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
You're in prim and the house always wins.
My second review for today isyou Probably Think this Story Is
about you, which brings tolight that the best and the
worst of humanity coexist on thesame emotional plane.

(21:39):
It's neither funny, lighthearted or filled with
snark.
It's simply one woman'sexperience with a poser, a
charmer and a very handsome cad.
It's a real story by a real40-year-old woman named Brittany
, who was compelled to pursue alove story, became involved in a

(21:59):
whirlwind romance that quicklyturned into a maelstrom of
deceit for her, her family andher friends.
I have a lot of empathy forBrittany.
It's a girlfriend story by adown-to-earth woman who isn't
incredibly beautiful, charmingor funny.
So what is the attraction?
Brittany is down-to-earth andreal.

(22:22):
I promise that she'll remindyou of someone you know, maybe
even yourself.

Speaker 7 (22:28):
This is the true story of my life.
I changed some names anddetails to protect the innocent.
It is marked, explicit Proceedwith caution.
I wanted the red flags to burn.
I didn't want them to be real.

(22:48):
I wanted him to be real, Iwanted the love to be real and I
wanted to gaslight myself intothe love story that I always
wanted.
You probably think this storyis about you.
I'm Brittany Ard and this storyis mine.

(23:20):
After sleeping with him allnight and the cuddling and
waking up to his sweet smile, Iput my concerns to the back of
my head.
So we had just had sex.
I'm in bed naked and he hadgotten up to get in the shower.
He was getting ready so I couldtake him to the airport.

(23:42):
He was leaving that morning tofly to Arizona for his son's
football game and he had lefthis phone on the nightstand on
his side of the bed, face up.
His phone buzzed a few times.
It was a little weird becausehe never left his phone anywhere

(24:06):
or out, and I looked over athis phone.
I didn't touch it, but therewas a Bumble notification phone.
I didn't touch it, but therewas a Bumble notification.
I was like, oh, they'reprobably trying to get him to
renew his subscription or getback on the dating apps.
I didn't have any reason tothink that he was cheating or

(24:29):
that there was somebody elsethat he was talking to.
As I continued to search, therewere all these articles about
his son, where she was quotedvery much alive alive.

(25:04):
Each of the women that I'vetalked to has their own version
of his story on how his ex-wifedied, if she even died at all.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
I worked with people living with a specific illness,
and so that's what I've done forabout 15 years now, and he said
that his son's mother, so hisex-wife also had that illness
and so she had committed suicidebecause of her diagnosis.

Speaker 6 (25:30):
She had gotten in a car crash and died in Hawaii,
and his son was in Hawaii alone, basically.

Speaker 5 (25:38):
He was in the Middle East and then he received a
phone call that his ex-wife hadoverdosed and his son was in the
car with her.

Speaker 7 (25:48):
Our conversations would be he has a brother and
then no, he has a sister.

Speaker 6 (25:52):
He had to get honorably discharged from the
military and move back to Hawaiito take care of his son until
he graduated they rushed themboth to the hospital, and she
was in in a coma for another twoto three months she died this
way and no, she died that way.

Speaker 7 (26:09):
We all were like no, we know the real version of him
and he said something about hefelt guilty like that.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
He didn't do enough to like help her and that's why
one of the reasons she mightcommit suicide, and so he wanted
to work with that population aswell and now I'm finding out
she's wonderfully alive.
I have found out that she isstill alive and well and not
living with that illness.

Speaker 7 (26:33):
Each one of them was convinced that it was true.
None of us knew the realversion of him, still don't.
I've met 14 other women thathave the same experience with
Canaan as mine.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
If you want to know how this ends, listen to.
You Probably Think this StoryIs About you.
That's a wrap on anotherepisode, the last episode for
our summer series.
I have to say, guys, I had ablast bringing this show to you,
