I hear a lot of accusations of lyingin our world today—got a minute?
There are certainly lies told and liarsaround us; there always have been since
the “father of it,” the devil, introducedsuch into the world (Jn. 8:44). A lie is
that which is told with intent to deceive.
To mistakenly say something—tomisspeak—is not a lie, but to speak

(00:22):
that which is false and knowing thatwe are doing that—that is very serious.

The instruction is clear (00:27):
we are not to bear false witness
against our neighbor (Exo.
20:16), nor accuse another falsely (Lk.
3:14), or teach thatwhich is false (I Tim.

6:20). Sir Walter Scott penned (00:38):
“O what a tangled web we weave, when first
we practice to deceive.” One shouldbe careful in accusation, as in all
speech. The Bible says God will place“all liars… in hell” (Rev. 21:8).
Rather than trying to get aroundthe truth, Solomon said, “Buy

(00:58):
the truth, and sell it not” (Pro.23:23). Truth is God’s Word (Jn.
17:17). That’s what Jesussaid—that’s the Gospel!
